To me JS is perfect incense fragrance: unique, but wearable. If Avignon is cold gothic cathedra, then JS is wooden baroque church in a small village. First minutes it smells more like a pharmacy or antique chest because of the camphor/cedar note. Then it becomes more and more like church: you can smell the redwood pews, incense and myrrh, some flowers maybe. The most beautiful part is the drydown: after an hour or so woods and incense become milder and sweeter because of the delicate vanilla and whispers of jasmine. JS is my signature fragrance, it has everything it takes: the fragrance is deeply beautiful, unisex and suitable for every day wear which is a big bonus, because most of the niche fragrances that I truly like are suitable only for evening/special occasions.
A pensive scent with a moody, melancholic feel.
This perfume is painted in sombre, muted shades of greys & browns - earthy, natural, refined. JS is deep, dark, brooding & wonderfully free from sugar-frosting & syrupy vanilla.
The dry woods & incense takes centre-stage here but the whole fragrance remains close to the wearer & neatly side-steps the vulgarity that other incense-laden, sweet-orientals can employ. I have to admit that I actually enjoy a bit of a vulgar, "loud-mouth" scent so JS would be a fragrance to wear when I want to feel centred, grounded, relaxed & off-duty.
JS could be worn comfortably by either sex. From the first resinous blast to the smooth incense, woods, candle wax & a dry patchouli heart this perfume is completely sexless & yet remains very sensual. I don't find evidence of troublesome coriander or sweet, sickly jasmine. The dry-down is satin-soft & silky with a whisper of pine, cinnamon, charcoal fires & benzoin on warm skin.
A truly beautiful fragrance. Very well balanced, very well-behaved - but maybe a little too shy & contemplative to make my wearable top 20. I could probably make do with inhaling deeply from a decant & reserving a wear for one of those rare, quiet days.
Josef Statkus EDP is fantastic. It opens with a blast of frankincense and cedarwood that brings immediately to mind of a bunch of Mike Buxton's compositions (Biehl MB03, Around Midnight) but after the initial austerity JS evolves into a smoother and incredibly comforting fragrance where vanilla and benzoin are joined by jasmine to create an unique blend that's embracing and extremely charming. Woods and frankincense are remarkable throughout perfectly balancing the sweeter drydown so to never become cloying and providing interesting edges and undertones. Refined and extraordinarely elegant.
Nice projection and good lasting power.
Let's put it simple, Josef Statkus seats somewhere between Avignon and Donna karan's Black Cashmere. Fantastic.
Rating: 8-8.5/10
...not unique, but so close and pretty...
this is nice indeed - personally i would re-categorise it and label it woody vanilla :)
to me this shares lots of similarities with Etro's Ambra - would be interested to see someone experimenting the comparison applied at the same time.
I like it - but i cannot find anything unique about it.
Nice...very sexy, warm, amazing. I love this an pretti wohmen.
Its very special so elegant and also so classic. Its last long on my skin. First its very strong, oriental, but balance between vanilla ( sweet) and oriental is perfect.
Later, it comes very sexy, somethink special just for you. I think its really unix perfume.
Try it ;)
Juozai, sveikinu, tikrai saunus ir isskirtinis kvapas.
Something about this is way too rich for me, to the point where I had to wash it off. It lingered for a long time, after that, very good staying power. Not sure what went wrong.....I like woody incense-y scents....but this was just too much.
This fragrance comes wiht a grand opening, for sure. I put it on and went about my morning feeling very pleased with the beautiful, woodsy scents that I love. However, around the 3-4 hour mark, which is when I decide if a perfume will become a mainstay, things skidded to a halt. I can't pinpoint the exact note(s), (I suspect it is the cashmere wood or the incense), but this deteriorated into something not so nice(and reminded me of the way people smell when they have a head cold). I do recommend trying, however, because it is unique.
Oh, MY...this has been the first fragrance in about three months I've tried and thought, I'm going to buy this, I don't care HOW much it costs! (Considering how much I sample, that's pretty impressive...!)
Most incense-based fragrances I find overpowering and cloying in an overtly sweet way, but not this none. It's just dry enough, just sweet enough, just perfect. It may very well be the most well-balanced oriental I've ever had the pleasure of wearing.
Something about this is so demurely sexy to me as well...not sure what note it is, maybe just the right balance, but I suspect it could very easily be a unisex fragrance. I would love to smell this on my partner.
I can't wait to get my hands on a full bottle of this for fall & winter!!!
it is perfect - from the bottle design its so similar and so genuine and the taste inside also .very deep. I Don't know why but this word comes first on m mind when I taste it - deep!
What a drop-dead sexy perfume! I love this spicy oriental thanks to F_A, would love the entire suite if available! It reminds me somewhat of Rochas Mystere, another favorite of mine. Rich, chic, incensey - a real winner! As Flannelman noted it changes rapidly from head notes to heart notes with a beautiful drydown - would weat at hight or to a chic daytime event. Exudes feminine power and confidence....

Another Juozas fan here.
Not much else to add to previous reviews, except its a sumptous fragance, reminded me of Sherazade and Mata Hari.
The dry down reminds me of L'or de Torrente.
Just like rebella did, I am trying this by way of F_A, to whom my thanks go. This is a luxurious, sensual fragrance but it is also light for an oriental.
The top jasmine note is very pleasant and not aggressive as jasmine can sometimes be. There is a very swift transition to the notes which to me are the real stars of Juozas Statkevicius: the incense (soft, but also dark and mysterious) and the gorgeous precious woods.
The base is a warm mix of well-balanced, not overbearing notes of musks and vanilla. I am really enjoying this rich, smooth and long-lasting composition...
I am so proud to say Juozas Statkevicius is from my country. He is absolutly talented desiner and his parfume is amazing deep very special.. just try it .
dekoju Juozui uz kuryba ryzta isskirtinuma. jis mano autoritetas.

Woody incense with vanilla-benzoin base. Nice, but unspectacular. Not remotely worth the price
Thanks to F_A I have got the opportunity to try this wonderful fragrance. I like it a lot! For me it´s a light, modern, aromatic oriental. It is a complex and intriguing fragrance... In the photo above, the commercial for the fragrance, there is a beautiful women dressed in masculin clothes, I guess it could be the other way around to.I think of the indian transvestites, so called hijras... Not an unisex, but an androgyn fragrance, and still very feminine in a way. I wonder how it would smell on a man?
Precious woods, incense, smell of flowers lingering...
It isn´t at all a heavy oriental fragrance, so even for you that isn´t that found of orientals I strongly recommend it. And for you that normally like orientals, this is an absolute must try! Good stayingpower and it lingers so nice...
If you like Shiseido "Feminite du bois", you will love this one. They do have something in common. Statkevicius fragrance brings you to the dark big church with burning candles and smoke of incences. It is rich, mysterious, sensuous and dark. A must try chic fragrance.
