Velvet Hour Kate Moss for women Pictures

Velvet Hour was presented in 2008 and will be available at the market from September 2008. After Kate Moss' first perfume Kate, the popular model, in cooperation with Coty, announced night life notes with her second perfume, which she enjoys herself.

Her part in design of bottle, perfume and name is also very important. Other ideas for the name of this perfume were Velvet Night and Enigma. Since Kate adores dusk and the hour of twilight, the perfume was named Velvet Hour.

Kate Moss imagined this perfume as the scent of night, very sensual, with accentuated patchouli, sandalwood and incense. In cooperation with perfumer Emilie Copperman notes of black pepper, freesia and cashmere incense were built into the perfume, which has a heart of patchouli and nutmeg. The base notes include sandalwood, amber, ebon wood and woody accords.

The campaign accompanying the perfume was created in cooperation with photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, who will show seductive Kate on blue sateen sheets in the commercial. TV campaign shows Kate getting ready by her luxurious dressing table, dressed in a blue gown. When she gets up and tries to button her dress, a mysterious man enters the room... Kate passes him a bottle of her perfume, which he then sprinkles on her...This intimate scene is lit by candlelight.

The perfume Velvet Hour will be available in a blue bottle, as 15, 30, 50 and 100ml EDT. The nose behind this fragrance is Emilie (Bevierre) Coppermann.

Velvet Hour Fragrance Reviews

Alexiandran
Alexiandran

Bought this over the internet unsmelled as it was really cheap and I guessed it would suit me.

I'm not too sure at first impression...
It's very strong and quite heavy. When first applied I get way to much alcohol, and a strong, sharp headache-producing smell. That luckily fades pretty soon, but one spray on each wrist and it's almost overwhelming.

I'm really bad at detecting notes and even worse at identifying them. But spicy, oriental and heavy - not even a hint of flowers or lightness. The smell is kind of masculin at first and gets me thinking of unisex parfymes.

After drydown, I quite can't decide weather I like it or not. I don't love it but it doesen't put me off either. I think at the right mood, on the right evening (this is nothing I would ever wear at daytime!), with the right outfit and the right settings it really would work. But without the right set up it would be way too much, too heavy and too spicy.

The sillage is exceptional on me. One spray on each wrist and people reacts from whitin 3 meters, good reactions yet though ;)

I'll have to get back on the staying power. But first application I tried to wash off due to the overwhelming first impression, but even after a wash I could smell it on my wrist...

(My excuses for spelling errors and bad grammar, english isn't my first language)

All the notes are identifiable in Velvet Hour and they are a really nice combination. This perfume works very well on me although the sillage is next to zero and it lasted only 4 hours. Its cheap and cheerful, well made and my favourite of Kate's so far.

This is a very weak and watery version of Sensuous Noir. I sprayed about 10 sprays and could only get a very slight smell when I sniffed my wrists really hard. Tested it out again by spraying the neck of my pyjamas with it - again I could only smell it when I stuck them up to my nose.

Zero sillage, no longevity - very watered down. As for the bottle - how cheap looking?

All in all very poor quality. You get what you pay for with this perfume.

I think the freesia in it gives the freshness to many people. To me it is the outstanding note. Love the pepper in it, usually can't stand pepper in fragrances. As some already said, it turns out quite masculine. Could also work well as a unisex perfume.

No citrus at all? Are you kidding me? This perfume is absolutely unpredictable and unexpected! I thought I spotted some citrus notes. Very unique.
Makes me think of someone who naturally is an adventurous girl but she's currently at a high class dinner party.
Like "I know how to have fun but I don't exactly know whose collection are you wearing!"
If you know what I mean :)

I like the light fresh smell it has to it,its not over done and,it has a very youthful aroma and can be worn for all occasions, although it has spicey and woody undertones its not overwhelming and niether is it harsh. The fragrance sort of has a smooth flow to it and the floral combination compliments the woody spicey notes. I think its a good choice,so thumbs up to Kate for Velvet hour

This is a really unique perfume - one that stands out from the crowd of the sweet goumand perfumes that are popular at the moment.
If you like sweet perfumes (like I do) than this is definitely worth a try. It is sweet, but not in that cotton candy, heavy vanilla way. When i checked this page to try and figure out just what these delicious notes in my Velvet Hour perfume were, i was so surprised not to see any fruit or food notes listed - I thought 'for sure there has to be a hint of raspberry or honey maybe'. But no! (To me the top notes actually smell EXACTLY like Brazillian Cherry, also know as Surinam or Cayenne Cherry, if you happen to know it).
It must be the Kyara (which i found out was frankincense) and the freesia (which isn't strong) which hold this perfume together, if you get what i mean - because the ingredient list, and a lot of the reviews here make it seem like Velvet Hour would be really heavy and spicy and sharp - but it is not!
Here in Australia this is actually not a cheap perfume - retail price being around $80. And it doesn't smell cheap.
Absolutely recognisable. Absolutely unique.

Where are the fruit notes in the perfume pyramid on top of the page? It is very fruity on me, much too much for me liking it. If this is dark, what is Nu, for example? A black hole?

It's a fruity perfume with some spices and a little incense, but still fruit. Fruit fruit fruit. Please add those to the pyramid.
;)

This ought to be one of the good celebrity scents; I don't want to know, how mediocre or bad celeb scents smell.

I pass on Velvet Hour. Bad thing is, that I won't be able to sell it on ebay, as everybody can buy it cheap everywhere...

For me Velvet Hour is all about patchouli, incense, woods and spices. It's all dark and mysterious. As much as I love the nutmeg I'm not into patchouli and incense at all. So this perfume is not for me. But I don't have anything bad to say about it. It's a piece of art, much more complex than most celebrity-fragrances.

Unusual as a celebrity scent, dark, deep, rich and long lasting. I dont get any fruits (+no sweetness and no vanilla accords) here. I can't smell even freesia even I like it in fragrances. Instead, pepper and nutmeg and olibanum (the most prominent note on my skin which stays here from the opening till the drydown) goes very well together. It doesn't cost much to try it so try because it smells much more expensive than the price is. And it lasts at least on my skin - 8 hours plus. I would categorize this as oriental woody. The same style as Estee Lauder "Sensuous Noir" has.

I bought this perfume on sale for $ 14. It's pretty cheap for a perfume in Denmark. I did not like this when I tried it on the wrist in the shop, but I thought it was so cheap that it would be perfect for a gift or a hostess gift when it was lowered to minus 50 percent. When I got home I could not help opening it and give it another chance - and I must say I think this is a new favorite. It´s not to heavy on me, I get most of Freesia, and a little bit of amber, which becomes almost vanilla-like on me. Not too sweet, not too heavy, it's just a perfect evening perfume or winter perfume to me. I've also had Donna Karan Delicious Night, and this was very heavy on me, almost sickening. I got such a headache when I had it on. But this one is just what I've been looking for. I actually think it smells a lot more expensive than it really is. This one has moved into my perfume shelf, and I actually think I'll get it used up.

Well i finally found a bottle of this and i am surprised at how unique it is. I love the fact that its fresh, extremely spicy and a hint of woodsy lovliness. Most of all what comes across is fresh/spicy. On first spray the freshness comes out but that soon molds into a warm spiciness which wears close to the skin, at this stage i am definitely getting the pepper and nutmeg! I can understand why some reviewers are referring to it as like a mans scent, but personally i don't mind that at all seeing as i tend to prefer woody/spicy/soapy fragrances over sweet or floral. The one major problem with this fragrance is on me the lasting power is terrible, oh that it was just a bit stronger and i think it would make a favorite, such a shame. I find myself spraying every 5 minutes! Well seeing as how i love the scent anyways i'll use it up but i probably wouldn't repurchase for that reason. All in all i find it refreshing and unusual and i absolutely love the spice which adds that little bit of oomph! Oh that it were stronger! I would not recommend for any fragrance heads out there who are into very feminine girly, or floral scents but on the other hand if your looking for something different it might be a good place to start seeing as how its not too strong.

I can smell the midnight poison here. It has a lot of freesia so if you do not like that then avoid like the plague. It is fresh and spicy all at the same time. I think a guy could wear this. My husband likes it. It does smell a little like a mens deoderant but I would not think in an overly masculine way. I use the lotion and it stays on much longer with that rather than the perfume on it's own in that case it does not last at all.

I blindly bought hilary duff's with love according to very good reviews here, but I hated the scent and regret the money I paid for it and decided not to buy any celebrity frag ever again..but I could not help buying velvet hour (again according to the reviews) and wow!! it really did surprised me a lot.. first of all it is nothing like any other perfume I have tried, and second of all a very diverse perfume changing every half an hour on my skin, starting with creamy freesia with a hint of patchouli, than changes into woodsy vanillic phase (I can detect the nutmeg here and also a little amber) but then it turns to a totally different direction and becomes soft clean and musky..this phase is very much like john galliano..longevity and sillage is amazing and it is CHEAP:)) however this can only be a rare exception and did not change my opinion about celeb frags, I am still planning to avoid them..

I find this perfume very interesting. It changes so many times while it is on my skin. First it starts out kind of fruity then to somewhat floral then to this creamy incense sandalwood vanilla type smell. I love it. I think this is one of those "love it or hate it" type of scents. Very different and sexy. I do not envision wearing this alot in summer but for fall and winter this is a must. Nice.....

finally bought it for 13 dollards! Yeah! To me it is verry close to obsession.it is built around the fresia, the only flower in it! I got: nutmeg, pepper, pachouli, woods, santal wood!it becomes all those woody/spicy notes around that fresia note! Almost an obsession ! Soft oriental! Love it! For a celebrity, nice one! To wear on special night! With a nice little black dress!

Normally I give "celebrity" type perfumes a wide berth, so imagine my surprise when I sprayed this on my wrist at the local chemist and loved it straight away....it's like a drug....I find myself spraying it liberally....even onto light bulbs throughout the house - spray it on before you turn the light on. There's something in it which I find addictive - maybe it's that cashmere incense. I'm a dusk girl, too, Kate!!

This perfume is quite interesting. It is long lasting and lingers on clothes/hair for days. It reminds me of the beginning of winter and those foggy nights. It's not a scent for summer, that is for sure.

I had high hopes for this one, since it was made by one of my most loved noses Emilie (Bevierre) Coppermann. But no, it was not really a perfume to me. More like a body spray or something. Maybe the store where I tried it distracted me too much, but Coppermann is known to make waay better.

This perfume its beautiful but strange at the same time. It make's me think about crazy bohemian hippies doing an orgy at the soud of Doors. It's a great night scent for people that smokes, because the fragrance has it own habitat. For me it smells like incenss, spices and lots and lots of pepper. It's a little bit to strong for me. Don´t like it. The first whiff is floral but then pretty soon starts smelling like deodorant for men and completely turns me off. I don´t want to smell like my boyfriends deodorant! It´s not a complicated perfume, and unfortunately the deodorant smell stays, that´s it. If you want to feel feminine wearing a perfume don´t buy this.

I did not expect to like it. I enjoy floral perfumes, but freesia normally doesn't do a trick for me and I can hardly tell you what freesia actually smells like. One and only floral note among all these woods and spices would be enough to make me suspicious, but if you look at perfumes that I "dislike", you'd see that most, if not all of them, have no similarity in top and heart notes, but have sandalwood in the base. This one does too.

So I did not expect to like it, but I did. The first blast was just lovely, spicy and smokey, then the perfume became fresh and woody at the same time (not sure about the notes), and then amber accord kicked into the base and sweetened the woody notes somewhat. I wouldn't mind getting to know that one a little closer!! Thanks for the sample, c3c!

May I add that this is the cheapest way to get close to Lalique's Lalique-le parfum?(The"red"one,in the cubic bottle). They are sisters.

It is creamy and has a decent base for a pret-a-porter(rather than an haute-couture)perfume.

Yep,I'd get it.

Really DISLIKED this scent.
It's exactly as *sky76sky* described it but its just a shame i brought it without testing it on my skin first cz it was half priced.(won't be making that mistake again)

IMHO it has nothing great in common with YSL elle, EL sensuous or DKNY delicious night(except the drydown of DKNY) cz it reeks of musty damp old books. On my skin there was no sillage & it stayed to close to my skin for my liking & intoxicating in the wrong way.
Therefore i wouldn't even lable this as a perfume & i certainly cudn't agree with this stuff at all.

All in all its 'smoke without fire'.
So just try b4 u buy.

WOW! I call this fragrance "The Hidden Sex Kitten." It exudes sexiness and mystery. I can't help but imagine a sneaky black cat lurking about in the dead of night, searching for something dangerous to get into. No, it doesn't smell like a cat, but it's one of those surprisingly sexy/mysterious type of fragrances. I smell alot of freesia when this perfume opens up and then the hidden undertones of pepper come out to play. As it mellows, I smell the nutmeg and patchouli and the woodsy base notes of amber in the drydown are just so mysteriously yummy. This perfume is a must have and should be added to every woman's perfume collection. Long-lasting, Modern and Intimate and ideal for the colder months.

I never expected this fragrance to be so unique and interesting. Since testing Kate, her first fragrance, I assumed that all her scents would be safe and unoriginal. Velvet Hour transcends past the common stereotype, and becomes something distinctive and alluring.

I'll start by saying that Velvet Hour is a sillage monster, a scent that lasts and lasts. Because this fragrance is so strong I would most likely recommend this scent for Winter or night use.

It's sweet, peppery, dark, intense and strangely beautiful. I'm so surprised that this fragrance sells so cheaply. I think its price may have something to do with the lack of promotion, because it definitely isn't based on the quality of this fragrance.

Velvet Hour opens with the soft and powdery freesia note, with the incense and pepper creating a smoky yet spicy quality. This opening on its own is very impressive.

The patchouli becomes quite strong after a few minutes of wear but the nutmeg mantains a certain softness and femininity which is delightful.

The drydown is a little bland, however I do still enjoy this fragrance. Amber ends this fragrance with a warm and sensual closure.

I'd make this fragrance a top pick for a unique evening scent that will certainly have you noticed and admired.

This is like a stronger version of her original, 'Kate', except it's not quite as peppery. It's darker & deeper, and also more woody, definitely for night, although it could be worn during the daytime because there is a slight freshness to it. It is a rather 'light' night fragrance, but at the same time, I found it to be quite long lasting. I'm not fond of the bottle, but I do like the deeper blue colour, this suits the fragrance to a tee.

My immediate thought on first application was that this is a lighter, fresher version of EL’s Sensuous, which I love! Velvet Hour has that same spicy woody vibe going on in the drydown with a touch more sweetness and a bit less smack you upside the head intensity. This fragrance manages to be warm and smoky as well as fresh and young at the same time, making it suitable for any age. The heart of patchouli and nutmeg gives it a very distinctive and uniquely sexy smell. I actually find this more wearable than Sensuous and even though it is relatively cheap I was thrilled that it lasted an amazing 10 hours on my skin. I think I’ll use this for office and Sensuous for evening in the cold winter months. The bottle’s not perfect, but then neither Britney nor Paris got it right either! At least here, I find that the content does not cheapen the brand. Elegantly refined, opulently blended and beautifully feminine. For me, this one’s a keeper.

I really, really wish I had not sprayed this on my skin. I keep catching whiffs of dusty mouldy books (not the good old library smell, but old books ruined by floods). I guess this is the woodsy bit...but it is wet, dank, dying. I generally adore spicy, woodsy creations but my chemistry really does not like this one. Even the patchouli or incense cannot break through this murky mist :(

I'm looking at the notes & I can't for the life of me work out where they are in what I am smelling......& I cannot believe this has been compared to lovely, rich Casmir!

Sorry, Kate. This is not for me...I can't believe the rave reviews.

I dont normally like celebritity perfume as it all smells the same to me, this one is unique and long lasting.

The first Kate Moss fragrance didnt last 5 seconds.

Kate Moss really impressed me with Velvet Hour, coz her 1st perfume smells like Rose Oil, but this one is special. I was relieved that the amber doesn't get to strong, and what i didn't like was it's staying power. Overall, i love the idea of wearing this perfume at night, when i'm out with my friends.

I really enjoy this scent. I got some samples of it from the UK recently. It's like light floral incense. I don't notice the patchouli prominently. It's actually very light and clean for such a spicy composition. It's long-lasting on me, however I wish it were a bit stronger. The scent is uniquely comforting. I think it's targeted for evening wear, however I enjoy wearing during the day too. It's definitely longer lasting on me than Kate by Kate Moss.

Well, I broke down and bought a full bottle of Velvet Hour with the accompanying lotion. It was worth it, though, as I haven't found anything similar that I like as much as of yet.

Now I write again after a few days wearing Velvet Hour. It definetely reminds me on another perfume, I think Rochas Absolu is the scent but it's less fruity and more woody, very beautiful, excellent staying power - on my skin - , very comforting. I like it more and more.

I am not into celebrity fragrances, but this one is an exception. I like the crisp, oriental scent of the perfume. And its long lasting too.Whenever i wear this perfume, i feel like im into the eastern part of the world, mysterious, seductive yet not overpowering.

I did like the overall impression it created at first, but I can’t separate any of the individual notes in it. The drydown smells weird on me & has put me right off.

The bottle is interesting & a lovely colour.

The lasting power is much better then her first fragrance.

I didnt love it. I didnt hate it. It is slightly better than the majority celebrities perfume. I recognized patchouli and woody scent but it didnt stand out and it looked quite shallow to me, without a character, lacking "personality".

I was never a fan of celebrities' perfumes but this one is really unusual and very pretty. I tought I smell lavender at the top but now i see lavender is not mentioned here. Anyway, it's a nice spicy one, not too sweet, and definetely a good scent.

This perfume isn't that bad for such price.
On me it had patchouli and spicy smell, which appeared a bit citrusy. Woody base is nice.
Nice perfume overall, but I think I smelled something like that already. And I like it.

Despite all the spices, it is very fresh and clean-smelling, I can feel the feesia throughout the whole composition. It doesn't dry and fade out, you can still smell the flowers in it.

At first, it reminded me of CK IN2U for her, but it's not as balanced and more simple than CK. Also if you don't want to spend too much money on a fragrance, keep your hands off this one!
