Video

Business lady, gorgeous woman…Kylie Minogue launched her first perfume called Darling, a charming chypre-floral with an oriental base. Top notes include sweet and luscious fruits: passion fruit, lychee harmonized with freesia. Delicate bouquet of lily and boronia are in the perfume’s heart while an oriental base is composed of sandalwood note, amber wood and vanilla. Perfume was created in 2006 by Thierry Wasser from the Firmenich perfume company. Watch an advertising video for Darling by Kylie Minogue.

surprised this is classed as chypre as it's the usual fruit laden sugar syrup to me. Bratz doll, bottled.

It's been a while since I've sniffed Darling, but from what I could remember about the opening notes, I just thought instantly: mouthwash, with a few flowers thrown into the mix. For me, it smelt absolutely rotten. Few are the fragrances that have the power to send me reeling back in disgust and olfactory-induced nausea. Darling is one of those perfumes.

I got this as a gift, and I really like it as it is sweet but not too overpowering. I like the lychee and vanilla, it has a familiar feel to it and it also smells a bit like violets on the initial spray. I wouldn't have chosen this for myself, but it makes a nice feminine gift and I have been wearing it everyday. Only disappointment is it isn't as long lasting as I would like it to be :(

I tend to buy perfumes I have never smelled before, just for the surprise element I get with the first spritz...it's always been interesting...but this perfume might make me rethink this habit. It went from that smell perfume gets when it's gone bad, to spicy, to sweet, to powdery, to a bathroom cleaner aroma and then on to sour lemons. Thankfully it lasted only about 15 minutes on my skin before disappearing. What a roller coaster ride of horror scents. Bad, very bad.

You can definitely smell the fruitiness in this.It is very girly and summery but I would be more likely to wear it to a special occassion than every day.

I can smell a bit of fruit in this, but mostly it just smells like an old-fashioned, extremely powdery floral to me. Would probably make a decent perfume to wear to work if it was your thing, but it's not mine.

From watching the advertisements, I figured that Darling would be reminiscent of the 90's and have a certain type of class and elegance. However, this was not so.

Upon first spray, Darling was quite sour and common. I could detect the passionfruit and the litchi, but to me they weren't an appealing blend. Interestingly though, the scent when settled on the skin for a few hours became quite pleasant and soft. Perhaps it was the vanilla in the base that made me sit up and take notice.

Unfortunately there is nothing about Darling that stands out from the crowd. While the base is likable, the rest of the fragrance leaves nothing to be desired.

Knowing that the perfume was created by Thierry Wasser of Firmenich ( responsable with Calvin Klein Truth and Christian Dior Addict) a decided to buy Kylie Minogue's Darling.

The first impression, when I sprayed this perfume on my skin was of a tropical fruity blend with green floral notes. After a while it starts to open, revealing an oriental twist in a form of a amber- woody scent.

I expected Darling to be much stronger and aromatic, knowing that is a chypre. A chypre needs to have 5 facets: citrus, floral, woody, mossy, amber and/or musk.
Darling is sweet and pretty, but I think that it does not represent me, not Kylie.

Certainly not my signature perfume.
If you didn't know Darling is used to scent Kylie Minogue’s figure at Madame Tussaud's wax museum in London.

The fragrance is a bit disappointing, because as I know Kylie's personality from her songs, photos and videos, she is a very youthful, sophisticated and sparkling woman. This fragrance doesn't reflect it.
As I smell this fragrance I could associate it with an old-fashioned granny! Maybe this fragrance reminds her the mother that's why it's 'darling' for her?
I would suggest it for ladies who like to make experiments - maybe on different skins it smells lovely? Or for mad fans of Kylie who would not use it just put between the Kylie CDs and posters.
The bottle is strange, I don't really agree with the romantic, soft-shaped bottle with a very masculine and modern cap.

To my nose Darling is a nice cross between Deci Dela and Gucci Rush.

Darling has floral & sweet fruity notes, and it’s very easy to wear. The EDT is inexpensive & I like the old time glamour of the bottle (It's modelled on her smile). Plus It’s non-cloying & inoffensive to my work colleagues.

But there is nothing to make Darling stand out from the crowd. We’ve all got these notes already with other fragrances. Plus, it's very sickly in warmer weather.

I find it very ‘safe’ & there's nothing individual about this fragrance. Nothing to recommend a re-purchase. Also; the lasting power is very poor.

well, it is true that there are so many people with just as many different opinions. It took me quite a while to get to like this scent, because I usually don't like perfumes you like on the first smell. This one is not like other scents, it is quite sour and strange, not sweet, but has something in it. Like Lanvin's white perfume-you could easily say it is yuk!, but still it has something extremely attractive, that drives me to it, time after time, again and again. One time, I decided to test it and I put one of Givenchy's perfumes on one hand and darling on the other-everybody who smelled them immediately decided that they liked Darling, and that the other one was very usual. That was when I decided to buy it. Even though I don't like "star" perfumes, this one is not one of those sweet-smelling-watermelonish-girlie perfumes.

I suppose it was supposed to be a more sophisticated celebrity scent, different than the usual gummy floral. However, it's not balanced. The beginning is very spicy sharp, not very pleasant to my nose, but it fades away after 15 minutes. So what's left is a very long lasting not very high quality floral which I didn't like.
