The house of L'Artisan Parfumeur is launching an interesting new fragrance named Batucada. Batucada originates from Rio de Janeiro and is a substyle of samba.
Perfumers Karine Vinchon and Elizabeth Maier were in charge of the composition of the new fragrance. The perfume connects not only two perfumers, but also two places on different sides of the world - Grasse in France and Sao Paulo in Brazil. Grasse is present as the place of origin of the fragrance while Brazil serves as inspiration for ingredients, name and general idea behind the fragrance.
Batucada, a fragrance for men and women, opens with Brazilian drink Caipirinha, which consists of lime, cachaça and mint leaves. A heart incorporates opulent and sweet floral notes of tiare flower and ylang ylang. Final notes close with a drydown of coconut water and marine notes of sea salt.
The fragrance is expected on the market beginning of October 2011 as100 ml and 50 ml EDT.

when i first smelled it, i wasnt really taken by it. went to the store again and this time had it sprayed on one of my arm. have to say this perfume worked really well with my skin chemistry. even i and the store sales people were a little surprised the scent worked on me without seeming 'off'. my flatmate does say it reminds her of other scents, so im not sure how unique this is. but i love the smell and would be great for hot climate areas.
It's a very nice fragrance on the top notes. But after a while on my skin, it started to smell harsh and sharp and it's a big no for me.
I tried this because it was supposed to be similar to CREED Virgin Island Water. I was dissapointed. I smell the Lime initially which is similar to VIW, after a few minutes there is a hint of sweetness and mint followed quickly by salt. This fragrance is so salty to me I can taste it. I am taken mentally to a Volleyball tournament on the beach where one of the players has had a Mojito spilled on them. This is how this fragrance smells to me...sweaty (salty) and like a Mojito. Maybe it would be good to wear to the beach for that reason......imagine..sniff sniff...is that sweat I smell? No, it's Batacuda.
Batucada is a very nice, friendly scent.
I don't find it harsh or weird at all.
It brings beach, ocean and fun to my mind.
It's a kind of a sweet, damp, sugary citrus smell.
I get mostly lime, mint and tiare.
Actually, has a lot of 'mojito' feeling to it.
When you finish your drink and there's some lime and brown sugar left at the bottom of your glass - you spear the lime with your straw, dip in the sugar and place it on your tongue. Delicious!
But, somehow, I can't imagine myself wearing this scent.
Although I could go for a party with someone smelling of it! :)
I also think some may found it too mainstream smelling. Lasts about 3-4 hours.
Another harsh L'Artisan's weirdo. I love lime, mint and ylang-ylang in perfume, but something in Batucada spoils everything good that tries to come out of these notes. I guess it's the coconut water, which gives very... physiological effect. Remember Secretions Magnifiques? It's something like this, yet not that lethal.
Drydown reminds me of Azemour, mostly due to the salt and sea water notes.
Salty, aromatic, fresh and full of lime and mint exaclty as a well served caipirinha should be. Original and unique. But I can't wear it, honestly. If I'm not mistaken it was released in June (at least in Italy) when I first sniffed it.
I had a very quick sniff of this in the London store last week so this isn't a full review just first impression for anyone who's interested.
Firstly I'm surprised it's being released in September as it seems to be a quintessential summer cologne. Very citrusy on the opening I only tried it on paper so didn't get the drydown of coconut etc. The top notes however were a very pleasent lime with a not too sweet floral backing it up. I wasn't blown away but it seems to be a nice, if a tad generic, unisex.
