Navegar by L Artisan Parfumeur is a Oriental Spicy fragrance for women and men. The nose behind this fragrance is Olivia Giacobetti. The fragrance features lime, pepper, star anise, ginger, rum, cedar, guaiac wood and incense.
have tried it today when i went in to buy 'tea for two' as l'artisan parfumeur is having a 50% sale, at the insistence of the sales assistant from their convent garden shop as she said 'buy it now as it's being discontinued'. it is a very light, citrusy, wood based fragrance, i completely agree with bronstein, it does smell like wet walls for the first 20min, after another half hour in the drydown (yes, it arrives very quickly) you can smell mostly the wood, faint citrus and a bit of pepper, another half hour and is completely gone. it's a nice fragrance but quite generic, probably most suited for hot summer days, trying it on a cold, wet, january london day most definitely didn't help. it is too similar to diptyque's tam dao and philosykos and i already have tam dao which i adore and find, oh well, 100 times better.
It's wonderful!! Soft, yes I agree, a soft aquatic rhum note and I also get a good whiff of the guaiac wood. The min point is indeed the sillage and lasting power, after 2 hours it s barely there.. But 2 wonderful hours of that limey Rhum note with the typical Artisanale like basic notes (as you can smell in La Mimosa, Fleur de Liane, Tibuktu, Verte Violette and many others..) you d instantly recognize it as an L'artisan:) great pleasure for a couple of hours. Maybe it will better last in hot humid summer days.
L'Artisan Parfumeur NAVEGAR is more of an aromatic woody than an oriental fragrance to my nose, as the lime and the ginger are the most dominant notes, along with the signature AP woody base.
All of the components which might have combined to produce a thick oriental perfume--pepper, incense, star anise, and rum--have been applied so judiciously as to be barely apparent. The point of this may have been precisely so as not to overwhelm, but the effect is instead to underwhelm, as the final product is cologne-like and the longevity is correspondingly poor.
This is not a feminine fragrance at all, but women who like smooth woody aromatics could certainly wear it comfortably. Because of the strong lime and ginger notes and the clean and woody, low sillage drydown, NAVEGAR would be best for hot weather. In fact, perfect for sailing. (-:
Not bad but not exited about it.
Decent one...sillage is small
7/10
Fresh and unisex it is, perhaps a little bit better suited for men. However, the first time I wore it I thought I smelled moist walls. Strange but true, and I still do.
the initial notes are spicy, pepper, anise, and a hint of lime, but not overwhelming.the drydown is more like incense and cedar. complex, as tessture says. very nice and fresh, truly unisex.
I don't dislike any L'Artisan fragrances, they all smell good. I base if I want them on strength and longevity. Navegar is very light, so light that when I was testing it with others yesterday I couldn't smell it. The others I was testing fatigued my olfactory enough that this was almost undetectable.
Today I tried it again, using about half a sample vial on my wrist. I just kept applying and drying it until half the vial was gone, in order to get a good whiff. All that was there is a light Ginger with lime on a Woody base with a very transparent incense note. Very light. Lime is the strongest note, and it's a very weak Lime.
The light Citrus started to fade in half an hour, and was only detectable in an hour with my nose pressed against my arm.
It smells ok, nothing special about it.
Complex and layered, it starts almost like a department store aquatic. Luckily, it dries down to something more. Interesting combination of notes, but definitely try it before buying.
