Eau des Baux is a fragrance of knights, courageous Chevaliers des Baux.

Les Baux de Provence is a legendary city-fortress on the south of France. Knights of Les Baux have chosen cypress as symbol of strength and courage. The new EDT was inspired by this medieval legend.

The colour of box is dark red, and similar to the colour of their uniform. Golden-silver star on the box and bottle is also a symbol of knights of Les Baux.

A sensual union of cypress and incense is in the center of composition.

Eau des Baux Fragrance Reviews

darksome

This is such a complex scent, definetly worth to try if you are into amber scents and gourmands!

Eau des Baux is complex without an overhelming spyciness that I can't stand in perfumes.
The first spritz is very creamy, soft but musky. In this stage it reminds me on my signature scent for winter - ORIFLAME MISS PUNK (I'm a woman), but in a more natural way. If you don't know this scent; it's a very sweet vanilla with milky creaminess and a sour, but pleasant musk.

But then in the DRYDOWN, it completely changes and comes very close to:

GIVENCHY PI

which I love! The main difference is that Pi's warm base is embraced with excellent cedar + herbal notes, but Eau des Baux contains instead cypress, is a little more sour (but not too much!) and for a tinge less sweeter. So it's actually a little more masculine.

I'm a cypress hater, but this scent is so well mixed, that I actually would miss the cypress. Anyway, if you already have Givenchy Pi, it's not necessary to buy Eau des Baux too. They are really similar in the drydown.

Light version of Guerlain Heritage IMO . Same vanilla note. I've had it on for 4 hours now and every now and then I am surprised by a waft of vanilla but nothing that makes me think I am wearing a heavy duty fragrance.

The smell is good though and rather sophisticated for an economically priced fragrance. However it doesn't hold a candle to the big boys. Guerlain Heritage costs roughly 50% more but worth the extra money if you like this vibe.

Mild sillage and just a fair amount of longevity.

BIGSLY nailed it - "Training Wheels". Good for a young lad on a budget.

This must be what Hemingway's satchel smelled like.

It takes an older, more distinguished man to pull this scent off. I cannot imagine a twentysomething wearing it.

Heavenly.

Update: This has such amazing longevity, it stays on clothes even through the wash.

Nice but verrrrry spicy. Made my nose a little itchy. Not very suited for hot humid climates like where I'm from :(
It opens up spicy and masculine but the vanilla note softens it a little. I can see that it may be wearable by females and I was indeed contemplating to buy this but ultimately didn't as it just doesn't suit humid climates. Booo I wanted it so badly after reading reviews here.

What I really love about Eau de Baux is that every time I spray it it turns out to be a little different. I've been wearing this the last couple of days and I also wore it a lot in the winter so I've become pretty acquainted with it. Certain notes decide to be more prominent than the others, but they all blend together nicely. For example, some days it turns out to be more of a lovely creamy vanilla, other days I get a spicy woody vanilla, or a nice long lasting cypress, and I really love it on the days when the incense decides is the most prominent note.

This a great fragrance from L'occitane and it is totally unisex great on men and women. Lasting power in the winter time is 6 hours or so. Now that its spring and a bit warmer I've been getting 12+. It really great for the long days when I do not have the time to respray.

Eau des Baux is really nice -- woody, sweet yet masculine, with a touch of spices. I agree with others, EdB smells natural. The vanilla reminds me of a wafer, but the scent is controlled and is really pleasant -- I love smelling this fragrance with my eyes closed. It feels like a tickle to the nose.

The longevity and projection are both excellent. For the price, you really can't wrong with this wonderful fragrance.

Whereas TV seems totally linear to me and far too strong (almost annoying), EdB is a much cheaper and well balanced alternative and a vanilla-scent with developement.
Very (perhaps too) sweet by the way - use it carefully 1 spritz or so.

This is a great scent and a good value. I noticed a variety of comments in other reviews trying to identify the notes that accompany the vanilla. To my nose, I get a bit of a green tea note that softens the vanilla. I'm not detecting any incense or pink pepper here.

Other reviewers have compared this to TF Tobacco Vanille, but there's no tobacco here, which is one reason I like Eau des Baux more. I would compare it more towards Guerlain Heritage, but with a stronger vanilla note.

I expected something different when I smelled this. The vanilla to me is really present. It does combine well with the tonka bean, but I'm not sure if I can get past the somehwat dominant vanilla. It's not overly sweet, fortunately.

I will try it a few more times to see if my opinion on this one changes.

Smells very similair to TF TV. Main difference here is longevity, whereas this was on my skin for like literally 2 hours and gone, TV will stay with you for whole day. This smells great for only $52, albeit you might have to rejuice throughout day. My advice, buy the deodorant of this, and save your loot and get a bottle of TV.

I bought this without even knowing how it would smell. You take a risk but I must say it was a good purchase. Price is okay for 100ml. The bottle however could have been a nicer design but hey, it's the scent that counts. Some comparisons are made with Tom Ford TV. As I haven't smelled that one, I cannot compare. This EdB is very good.

L'Occitane's Eau des Baux (EdB) does NOT smell like Tom Ford's Tobacco Vanille (TV)... Not even close... Not even the same ballpark... Not even the same sport... That being said... I love EdB... It smells wonderful but not like TV... EdB is not trying to be TV like many other fragrances seem like they are trying to be something else and that is a great thing... EdB smells like EdB and that is a good thing because there are times I want to smell like TV and other times I want to smell like EdB...

I enjoy many of L'Occitane's fragrances -- I've said it in other reviews, but I will say it again here: they are unique but likeable, simple, yet complex enough to keep me interested. They make great scents for layering (I love experimenting with L'Occitane combinations), which really opens up possibilities. They also manage to smell quite natural, which is great for everyday use or for those days when you want something a bit lighter.

I originally bought Eau des Baux for myself to blend with their Ambre and some of their floral and peony scents. I wanted something woody, incense-y, and warm. This fit the bill perfectly.

Something strange happened, however: one night, just for fun, I sprayed some on my boyfriend (who NEVER wears fragrance of any kind). He kept repeating, "I reeeeeeeally like it." The next day, I smelled it on him again: he had sprayed some on himself...of his own volition! Not to overstate things but this was unprecedented. Since then, he has worn it almost every day (a couple of months now). I have come to associate it so much with him that I have stopped wearing it entirely. He has found his signature scent...and this from a man who denounced fragrances of any kind.

Long story, not-so-short: it's really lovely. I liked it on myself, but love it on my man. I have seen it compared to Tom Ford's Vanilla Tobacco, and while I can pick up on a tobacco "vibe" in this, Eau des Baux is much more woody overall (and without the resinous sweetness of the Tom Ford) and definitely stands on its own as a unique, sensuous fragrance.

Just received my blind-buy bottle of this juice in the mail and it a BEAUTIFUL scent! Please do not believe the hype of smelling like Tobacco Vanille, because it does NOT. There are SOME similarities in certain notes, but that's as far as it goes. It is, however, a magnificent fragrance - especially for the reasonable price! I will be re-purchasing once I've completed it!

My girlfriend works at a L'Occitane store. I'm glad she does because otherwise I guess I wouldn't know what I was missing out on. And boy, that would be a lot!!

This one is quite a miracle in a bottle! It smells very natural and comforting (vanilla). In the first hour you get a lot of cypress which gives that manly-vibe and makes you feel confident. After that first hour the vanilla becomes more prominent and gives you a very sweet gourmand feeling which is to me comforting and relaxing.
I noticed it is very long lasting. Definitely 8 to 10 hours of solid sillage and projection.
Quality juice and very affordable (€44 - 100ml in Belgium)

This will be competing for my winter-signature-scent but I can also see this in early spring and fall.

Guys check this one out, you can almost blind buy it unless you are looking for a mainstream citrussy-scent you wont be disappointed! Some say it's unisex and I can see that might work out for you but it is definitely "pour homme" to me.

I just returned from tropical Dominican Republic where I decided to wear this scent. I confess there was some nervousness because like many reviewers have said, it is a perfect winter smell. The combination of vanilla and tonka bean really seem to win the day during the colder months and climates. But the tropical weather of the Caribbean seemed to bring out the cypress more. I often noticed that the incense and vanilla were present, but the most dominate ingredient appeared to be the cypress. It came across surprisingly fresh and suitable to the location. Now, granted its winter even in the Dominican Republic so it might smell different come July; but don't shy away from wearing this in warmer months.

Great fragrance real closed to Tom Ford tobacco vanille. Love it I will definitely get this one for my collection. I try this on my forearm and was amazed of the projection and sillage the next day I woke up and it was still there for those who love tobacco vanille this one a buy. Yes Tom Ford more thicker but for $205 for a 1.7oz I rather get EDB 3.4oz for $50. It might be a ugly ducky as for bottle presentation but the juice inside well worth it.

When i was lefting the place she saids "sr dont you wanna try it on you?" and then i just figured out that i forgot the main reason to buy something so the answer was "why not?!.
Well a couple minutes after i feel myself into a cloud of green spicy sweet vanilla with a mix of balmy and maybe hot dust from a desert, suddenly i got mesmerized while the girl was finished the setence "...a lot of girls behind you" Gracias was i've said and went to walking down on Lincoln rd.
For $53 it is more than a dream thank you L'occitane too.

This starts off with dry woods and spices and smokiness. Then comes... nothing. It has a fantastic foundation but there is nothing sweet or olfactorily interesting above this base of dry woods and smokey spice. I enjoy the fragrance, but it's like cake without the frosting- it needs something creamy and sweet to complete it (well actually I don't like frosting on cake lol but you know what I mean). In all, I like this fragrance but I feel like something is missing :/ oh well, wanted to love it

A wonderfully warming fragrance on a sharp cold day. Long lasting and for me a real compliment getter. Not that im so shallow. Ok i am and getting compliments on your scent is never a bad thing. Its perhaps a wee bit too sweet in the dry down where id prefer the incense to hang in a bit longer but thats a small niggle in a great autumn/winter fragrance that's great value.

Eau des Baux might be "men's" but I LOVE it. It's not overly heavy. I do smell some cypress more towards the beginning. The incense is positively lovely. It smells like resins with a touch of vanilla and spice. I think it's easily unisex. Eau de Baux reminds me very much of a more masculine, not-powdery drydown of Eau de Shalimar.

I know women's chemistry is different, but I found this to be medium-bodied, rich, and long-lasting. It projected well too. For the price, I think it's amazing.

I see a lot of people are reminded of Tobacco Vanille. Not me. I never would have thought to compare the two. TB is at least 50% tobacco, and there is no tobacco to be found in Eau des Baux. This is only my personal experience...

I think this is a really wonderful scent. Spicy and sexy, but not too heavy. The hint of vanilla is simply intoxicating. Smoky and woody but not too sweet, settles very nicely and creates a sensual aura. Well worth the price and I think it is actually better than some of the other more pricier designer fragrances, lasting longer and less synthetic. Very enjoyable to wear.

The first time I wore this fragrance was on a Summer evening, and mostly what I got out of it was a lot of cypress. It reminded me mostly of mulch...

I wore it again on a Fall day and I did not get the mulch at all, but instead a lot of warm spice.

Excellent for Winter and Fall.

Great Price, Lasts All Day, Great Sillage and Projection...

The bottle is terrible. The scent is fantastic. So, the question becomes: Which matters more, a sexy bottle or a sexy scent? For me, it's all about the scent, and at $50 for a 100ml bottle, this one is hard to resist.

It's incense, but not too much, vanilla, but not too sweet, cypress, but not too woody, and tonka, but not too thick. Really, it's superb.

A word of caution: EdB lasts and lasts, so be careful not to get it on something like a jacket. It'll be there for ages.

Eau des Baux is easily my favorite from L'Occitane. Based on the price, it gets 10/10 from me. And, truthfully, I'd still be pleased if I'd paid much more. Really, it's a bargain.

EdB is superb in fall and winter.

Just got this as a blind buy. I was wondering how something can smell "religious" but now I know. It reminds me of visiting old cathedrals and even though it may not smell exactly like them, the story of the Templar knights really fits with this. Very strong though, made me sneeze so ease on the spray. It's warm, but in a fresh way, if you can understand. I hardly get much vanilla but I get LOTS of cinnamon. Strange. I get how it can smell like tobacco, but rather those sweet tobaccos. It reminds me of smoking hookas with my Arab friends in college. It's regal, but with a divine purpose. Sort of reminds me of the movie 'The Fountain' really, when I put it on I feel as if I have taken on the journey for something holy and unreachable.

Very good. I dearly recommend it, especially if it suits your personality, as it does mine. The longer I have it on, and once I get over that 'dessert' smell, the more I'm in love.

This IS suitabel for a woman! It works wonders on my skin, which turns most fragrances, especially synthetic ones into the sour synthetics they are. THIS one is playing with my body chemistry and I get loads of compliments from men who seem to find it gourmand and quite enticing, haven't had one comment as to whether or not this is a feminine smell. it is autumny and uplifting - but in a way sacral...as if entering a luminous cathedral as a beam of light enters through a coloured glass window, a choir starts to sing and you start communing with the spirit within. I am well aware that such an experience cannot be bought. But I find Eau de Beaux has a wonderfully rooting earthyness of vanilla woods and spices combined with a spiritually uplifting dimension of incense and amber A real treasure!

Excellent juice! I just received my bottle in the mail today. At first spray it smells like a delicous dessert, than it quickly changes as the sharp, pungent, pink pepper makes a strong presence, cutting down on the initial sweetness. In its dry-down, this is slightly remeniscent of Gucci Pour Homme II although stands entirely on its own due to the additon of the pink pepper, ethereal vanilla, and the absence of the strong green-tea note in GPH II. People always remark that Burberry London reminds them of Christmastime. Well, Eau des Baux smells like Thanksgiving to me, reminding me a wee bit of home-made pumpkin pie. It's truly wonderful, and one of those rare, quintessential fall fragrances that seems to encapsulate the feel of an entire season inside a bottle. I adore it, and it lasts, and lasts, and lasts...

Interestingly, while I don't get much "incense" here, I do get LOTS and LOTS of cinnamon which, unbelievably, is not listed here as a note, not to mention the amber in Eau de Baux as well, which, undeniably is both its foundation and beating heart. Absolutely outstanding!

Overall: 9/10 I ADORE the way that this smells, but I don't feel like it packs any real uniqueness or a "wow factor". Still, it's a warm, cozy, comforting, and delicious scent.

I got my Eau des Baux today. It was blind buy but good one. It was just what expected after reading these reviews.

Opening reminded me of Tom's Tobacco Vanille, but tobacco note was different. It was thinner and greyer. I guess it wasn't tobacco at all.

This reminds me more one phase of Shalimar: thin vanilla, cinnamon and incense. It's not whole picture of Shalimar, just little part of it done in simpler and more masculine way.

What I like most in Eau des Baux is the dry powderyness of it. This might be good one for layering too. Well worth it's price

Eau des Baux is extremely well-made and even though it is labeled as a fragrance for men I think it is equally suitable for women who want something richer and darker, different from modern "fruity florals". To me eau de Baux is like a child of L'occitanes Amber, Labdanum and Eau d'Iparie, with added evergreen notes. A wonderful, comforting, golden, autumnal fragrance that opens with spicy cardemom and a dash of warming pepper. It has a wintergreen heart which adds more character to an overall warm, slightly smoky, woody fragrance. Green cypress is surrounded by lots of rich resins, amber, wood and delicious, decadent vanilla, and this is what stays with me when the top and middle notes calm down.

There's just enough sweetness for this scent to be comforting and embracing- I can't wait for autumn just to be able to get the best out of it, because eau des Baux works like magic in cold autumn air.

This is work of art, but the kind that doesn't try too hard, is very wearable (though it won't wear you!) and simply enjoyable.

I am surprised by some of the so-so reviews of this scent. I absolutely love it and wear it all the time. Although fragrances rarely project well on my skin (too cold, fair and British I suppose!), I get more compliments about this £39 shopping-mall scent than I do from far more costly niche ones. L'Occitane has created a great male fragrance with Eau des Baux, complemented by a good range of accessories, viz., shower gel, bath soap, deodorant, etc. You can have the whole 'toilette' experience at a reasonable price. The cypress and incense really does transport you to a more exotic place and time; and the vanilla/amber dry-down is beautiful and long-lasting. This will stay on you and project well all day. As others have noted, there is a similarity to certain aspects of Creed's Royal Oud (a later creation), which costs about £187 for 75ml! The Creed is ultimately more satisfying and a touch classier with an ethereal, indefinable beauty. But Eau des Baux comes pretty close. It's not a second-rate, cheap and cheerful substitute but a work of art in its own right. You will smell far better than all the other guys in their ubiquitous, high-street chemist fragrances. And 100ml only costs £39!

Vile medicinal bottle is an irrelevance. Don't let it put you off.

straight(forward), warm, spicy, woody and gourmand, lovely, good longevity and average projection, no must have, but still good. I like it, altough it does remind me a bit of a chocolate cake on Christmas Day. They should have taken it a little further with the cypress, it would be less of a safe player and a bit dirtier. A bit too gourmand for my taste, still wear it proudly though.

I've got a "vintage" bottle of this, and I get too much vanilla. It also "blobs up" a bit, which I don't generally like. I get little wood or incense. As I was wearing it, for the first few hours, I was thinking that this is like training wheels for Tobacco Vanille, though there's no tobacco here. TV has simple but effective contrast between the vanilla and tobacco, whereas this fragrance is more of a scent than a perfume or personal fragrance, with little contrast or dynamism. If you are wearing it to impress others, it may work fine, but I don't view this as an aficionado fragrance. It lasts a long time with moderate projection ("sillage"), with one spray to the chest. I think that two sprays would have resulted in a cloying quality, but I don't think I'll ever be inclined to see if that is the case. If I want an incense fragrance that is not dry/woody, I'll reach for Messe de Minuit. As I said, this is like training wheels for those kinds of fragrances, which I no longer require, but relative to designer fragrances of this type it's certainly a cut above.

If you were to throw a few chips of sandalwood and cedar onto the hot embers at the end of a dying campfire and sprinkled it with cracked vanilla beans before adding a pinch of cinnamon and clove... You would smell something very similar to Eau des Baux.

Very warm, sweet and nice fragrance in a very boring and horrible bottle. A strong vanilla perfume (I also find kind of a burning caramel note) that has a very good projection and longevity on me.

Even though liking this warm and sweet vanilla aroma, I've found other fragrances that smell better (or classier) are better balanced and of course with more beautiful bottles.

I like this perfume but I will not buy it. I like it, but I don't love it.

I'm not going to discuss the multitude of wonderful scents, which is Eau Des Baux. What I am going to do discribe, is why this is a revolutionary fragrance for me.
I'm a fan of big, manly, full bodied, wooded and peppered classics..... Quorum, Tzar, Paco Rabanne, Azzaro pour homme....... I like them because they were my introduction to great scents...... Presented to me, by my father, in daily hugs of affection.
A while back I was searching for scents which inspired people because of their lack of mainstream or mass adoption. Eau Des Baux was described as a triumph!.
I looked at the composition and realised it was on the opposite spectrum of what I am familiar with and aspired to enjoy. I parked Eau des Baux at the back of my mind....... Intrigued by the wonderful reviews.
A week back, on a business trip to Cape Town, South Africa, I passed a L'Occitane store at the Waterfront. I remembered the reviews and eagerly sampled the simply bottled contents....... I sprayed some on my wrists..... Sniffed..... Disappointed.
Why you ask? Eau Des Baux doesn't reveal all it's secrets initially, despite it's simple makeup. I walked out the store empty handed.
However, for the rest of the evening, I had this fantastic fragrance which just kept on seducing my senses...... So much so, I couldn't wait to get to the store the next morning. I bought a bottle and haven't touched any of my signature fragrances since.
I feel fantastic, masculine and content, wrapped in the warmth of this simply fantastic fragrance. If there is a fragrance that has bowled me over with surprise. Eau Des Baux is it.
Find it. Buy it..... And enjoy it as I have!

In the opening appears evident the cypress and incensed at this time to feel a little vanilla, but it is not what stands out in the first minutes. Over 20 minutes of the cypress gives a calming and there is a freshness, which I imagine to be with the cardamom and vanilla is stronger. I found it straight through, I felt great variations during the day. I found very usable for milder days. I received a compliment for lunch when I thought that perfa would become very shy. Around 17hs could no longer feel it in the arm. Upon arriving home there for 21h, already spent a few hours q no longer felt any sign of perfa, but when I took the shirt, climbed a sweet aroma of cypress.

Longevity: note 8 (9-10h)
Projection: note 6.0 (1h)
Age: I think the starting 25. The cypress should not be a note much appreciated by younger, beyond being very present in the first minutes.
Versatility: 8 (Good. Only the most intense heat q q do not think it should be legal)
Scent: grade 8 (good fragrance and cypress is quite different from q perfas have here)
Visual / Package: note 4 (could have a better look and more attractive, cover and spray are a simple simulation of a matte metal, even the cover is very thin and crumples easily. Have the glass edge to something medical, like scott emulsion.

DRY WOODSY AMBER!! Why isn't amber listed in the notes here?? The incense and woodsy notes are what make it dry and the vanilla just gives it a pinch of sweetness. It's not overly sweet though, just a natural wood amber that is resinous and pleasant. It reminds me a little of Prada Amber but Prada Amber is not as dry.

This is what I consider to be a true man's fragrance. It is robust, vanillic, ambery, yet very masculine. It does not dry down to some powdery, feminine scent like so many other so called for Homme, fragrances do today. I actually can compare E.D.B. to several niche fragrances. For the money, this is an excellent value. This will be a regular for me. Really enjoy it a lot. Recommended for purchase, even as a blind buy.

Eau des Baux is a very calming/comforting scent for me. I guess the real reason for that is, the top notes are very similar (not as intense) as the scent of alcoholado (rubbing medicinal alcohol). Alcoholado is made of alcohol, bay rum, ginger, camphor and peppermint and usually used for massaging aching body parts, or when you have high fever (therefore, used for comfort when you feel under the weather).

As you can see, nothing similar to this EDT composition, but believe me, it is a very similar scent. After an hour, it changes a bit to a more incense, smoky and spicy scent...and after a few hours, it becomes more sweet vanilla, still with some smoke there. And that is it, but that is more than enough for me.

Last a loooong time on me, and again, very calming and comforting. Love this one.

Flawless, in my opinion.

Eau des Baux opens with a spicy, smokiness that remains prevalent even as it transitions toward a semi-sweet vanilla-tonka bean base. What results is a relaxed, inviting fragrance with a decidely festive appeal. It feels appropriate to wear Eau des Baux during the holidays as it sits right at home among the kitchen aromas, wine, and fireplace. It projects well but never feels intrusive. In fact, its presence becomes a welcome addition to the atmosphere. At no points is Eau des Baux cloying, offensive, or sharp. There are no bad notes or mistakes with this one. Longevity is good. If you are a fan of Burberry London,Gucci Pour Homme, or Tobacco Vanille, you are likely to enjoy Eau des Baux, as it shares some qualities with all three. Relatively inexpensive, EDB will serve as a worthwhile addition to nearly any fragrance wardrobe.

Recommended highly.

Very pleasantly surprised by this one. It smells very strongly of an excellent pipe tobacco. Its quite long lasting as well. I tested it at 11am, and its now 7pm and still going quite strong. For sure on me it would be a winter scent.

Its a bit linear so I think some will be a bit bored after a while, but I could see myself wearing this one (even though I'm a woman!!)

A special fragrance for me here in Northern California on cool, crisp autumn/winter days...absolutely perfect harmony. The fragrance is so warm, sensual - pink pepper, cardamom, incense, woodsy (cypress), some vanilla (and the very important note of tonka bean) that adds depth in the base but keeps this from being even a bit cloying. Superb! I also wear the Eau des Baux deodorant, which is extremely high quality and have the shower gel - great as well. I find this to be the best offering from L'Occitane, although I have always loved their products and have products from their L'Occitan line (EDT & After Shave) and Cade (Shower Gel & Youth Concentrate). One of the few "mall apothecaries" you can walk into and truly breath in and sensualize the quality. Prices are never really lowered, but the quality speaks for itself. Personally, I find layering it to be totally unnecessary. The longevity is about 6 hours on me. This is a darling on review sites - and for good reason. Magic scent that captures "autumn in a bottle" and soothes you and those around you (as sillage is above average)...but, I could actually see this worn during any cool weather and even springtime (or a summer evening outdoors). Transcendent and beautiful. 8.8/10 - fantastic.

**Update** - a nice warm, but not hot, summer day with a gentle breeze in Northern CA here in mid-July. Low humidity. I put this away in a storage - waiting for autumn to come. But, I simply couldn't wait. This is truly a comfort scent. I spoke with a fellow member here on Fragrantica (a warm hello to mark.anderson in South Africa!) about the shower gel for Eau Des Baux and just took a nice, relaxing late afternoon shower. Very nice - the cypress, bright pink pepper and cardamom are all very invigorating! This really shows the top notes while you lather. The warmth comes through on your skin after you rinse off with a touch of incense and the smooth vanilla/tonka bean finish. The entire shower smelled like aromatherapy sauna! After drying off, I put on the Eau Des Baux deodorant and the room already filled the air with scent. I only paused for a moment - because I realized I am staying indoors and relaxing with family while I finish some work this evening. I applied 5-6 sprays of the EdT - ahhhh, I missed you my friend. It's been over 6 months since I last wore Eau Des Baux and it is like finding your most comfortable, warming robe and wrapping it around you. Sensational. The beauty is captivating. I upgrade my score to 9/10 and recommend enjoying its charm even on summer evenings - or whenever you need that feeling of pure comfort. This has changed my mood. Merci, L'Occitane!

This is a warm, spicy, delicious scent. I'm a woman, I wear this, I get strange looks sometimes. I don't care. Men and woman can wear it, but it leans more towards a masculine scent. I love the smoky spicy scent with the vanilla. Be careful though. It can be cloying. I can see a lot of people getting headaches from it. I still love it. I just use a really, really light hand and I'm weary of where I spray it. Usually not on my clothes, but on my skin with clothes layered on top of it. Sillage is excellent, longevity not so much.

Lovely little Eau this ... I tried it today and was quite startled that something so simple could be so good! It's very up my street at the moment as I meander through an Oriental phase ... which is strange because it's the middle of Summer where I live LOL. The longevity and sillage are not massive, but it's inexpensive enough to reapply at least once throughout the day, or layer with it's back-up products. A super find which will make it's way into my collection 'tout suite'. Soft oriental fans should definitely give this a bash :o). Tom Ford's Tobacco Vanille is harsh and a complete ripoff compared to this little gem. No 'poor relative' here. Des Baux stands firmly on it's own two feet. Totally unisex IMO ... which is great!!

Baux is such a terrific fragrance. For those who find it a bit much, whether at first or after awhile, I'd suggest the Baux Shower Gel and the Deodorant instead because the dry down on both are equally as gorgeous as the fragrance. Just lesser in strength but not in performance. I've know various people, men and women, elder gents to younger ladies, wearing this fragrance because of its heart base notes. I recommend Baux to anybody who loves sexy fragrances, simply developed, with the ability to be mixed with other fragrances (I've mixed Baux by L'Occitane with Bvlgari, Tom Ford, John Varvatos, Hermes, Jean Paul Gaultier as well as Thierry Mugler). Easy layering, blending, mixing, and extremely sexy in various spaces and places. Try misting some Baux on your clean sheets with the blankets over it so that when you go to bed, that sensual scent evokes great dreams as the sheets fluff over you. And for the super low price point and ample size, also with a bottle that you can screw open after you're done, I've also used Baux in the powder room and laundry room. L'Occitane fragrances are so utterly affordable and amazing in their simplicity yet the complexity lies in the wearer, the mood, and the ability to personalize your experience.

My boyfriend uses this frangrance and it's really wonderful on him.
It's a sweet, smoky, woody scent with hints of spices and pine. Especially the cardamom is quite distinctive in the opening. When it dries down it reminds me of Christmas. Really, every aspect of Christmas is packed into that bottle: Christmastree, the smell and sound of fire, cooking smells, exotic gifts and the wonderful feeling that outside it's cold and inside it's warm and cozy.
It lasts quite long on his skin and lingers as a smoky vanilla scent. I think it's the perfect counterpart for CLASSIQUE from JPG. Warm and dark and comforting but also quite daring, since it's not your typical men's fragrance. It's way more classy and distinguished than LE MALE (which is considered CLASSIQUE's counterpart).
It really is a warm and comforting, yet stylish scent and I'll definitely try it once myself.

Tried this at a (male) friend's house as he wanted to show me his latest find, tried it on myself and loved it. My skin makes it lovely and cinnamony with pepper, although a few hours later you can tell it's originally a man's scent, it became quite "herby" and woody, but I still loved it. On the "want" list...

"Eau des Baux" is perhaps the most interesting proposition in "L'Occitane" male line of perfumes. Again, this is a simple perfume that makes a statement, smoky and sweet (in a pleasant woody way) with some abstract herbal element floating inbetween, illuminating the final impression!
I like it a lot (even though it is kind of simple for my tastes), but as is the case with this brand's perfumes, the longevity is dubious. It has disappeared from my skin after 3 hours and on the paper strip is less evident than expected even though the paper was sprayed 3 times by the employee.
I strongly suggest to try it before you buy it, but DO try it because it is a comfortable everyday perfume and quite distinct!
There is something in its composition that reminds me of "GIVENCHY Gentleman" for it might create a nose itch on some people.
Lastly, it gives me the strong impression the creators got inspired by some other perfume for this one, but somehow managed to give it an identity of its own.
Start with the shower gel.

why is this good scent tucked into a bottle that looks like one you will pick up from any local pharmacy and usually containing cough mixture?the packaging is just plain tacky but you ignore all that and enjoy this subtly sweet herbal incense of a fragrance that it offers.

Am not too bowled over but all in all a very well made fragrance that ticks all the right boxes.

I definitely don't like it as much as I used to, but I bought Eau des Baux for a reason. It's a very smooth fragrance based mainly on an incense-nutmeg accord, with a warm ambery aura. My tastes have changed, but Eau des Baux is definitely worth checking out, especially considering the decent price. Comforting and it lasts a while.

I bought this 3 weeks ago because of the reviews and movie-revs on youtube. After days of using this, I can say that I really love it. It even claimed a spot on my favorite fragrances.

About the scent, for me it smells like incense with a hint of spice. It's not sweet. It's not powdery. It's unique. I don't have TF:Tobacco Vanille so I can't compare the two.. For the grade: Sillage is good, say 8/10. 2 Sprays on the neck one on the chest and one on the back. That's how I use it. Longevity, on my skin is kinda weird. Sometimes it last more than 6 hours, sometimes only 2-3hours. Probably 7/10.

For those who like incense or smoke, this is highly recommended. Affordable and unique.

My husband tried this scent and it actually suit him.
It's warm at first yet it fades into a vanilla leathery like a slightly burnt butter vanilla cupcake. The scent lingers all day. I must say that you have to be courageous enough to use this since this perfume does not smell modern or fresh. Just manly.

A lovely, warm and sensuous fragrance. Initially the woods come out beautifully - cedar and sandalwood, the sweet vanilla becomes slightly more prominent after a few hours. This is a fragrance with character and eloquence, yet it has an elegant simplicity to it. I would not be surprised at all if d'Artagnan wore this fragrance, not to be surpassed by Aramis' narcissism - walking proud in his turned-down leather riding boots and his woolen doublet, his broad-brimmed hat crowned with a luxurious plume and his illustrious sword at his side!

Definitely one of my comfort scents and a very good one for travelling. I usually spray it on my clothes, which I recommend to make the notes other than vanilla hang around for a bit longer. This way I also get more of my beloved incense out of it. (Just spray it from a distance and not on white fabrics, it tends to leave stains.) As it is not terribly complex, you can quite easily layer it with something smokey or woody. If you need a reference point, this reminds me of Dior Homme and Hermes Caleche.

No it's not cypress, it must be pine. Cypress is harder.
OK, anyway, this one, just like other perfumes from the company, provides a clean and safe natural smell and this time it presents clean pine resin odor and I think juniper must exist. In spring pines secrete their balm -which is base of rosin- and its smell is cleaner than that in other seasons; this pure and deep natural scent is base tone on Eau des Baux.
Only in dry down a little bit incense and cardamom appear because of their strong smell. Indeed, Buax is not a heavy and harsh perfume, instead it's so smooth and velvety pine scent! So natural and comfort.
One of the best for being signature and you can wear it everyday easily and in any occasion but it's not so charismatic. A good perfume for wardrobe!

After reading some good reviews of this fragrance, I went to the store to take a sniff. I didn't find the smoky vanilla everyone was talking about. In fact, I'm pretty sure that this smells pretty similar to L de Lolita Lempicka. It's salty vanilla mixed with a bit of tobacco. Anyway, it's still nice and I like it. But it's just not as I expected and quite sad that I've changed my mind not to buy it.

I found it similar with Puro Nejma that I owned, but the price of this L'Occitane version is 5-6 times cheaper.

L'Eau des Baux starts harsh, all notes are colliding and smell annoying. But the dry down (2-3 minutes later) is almost exactly the same with Puro which I found nicer since the first time you spray. It's like tobacco fresh leave with vanilla, I also smell woody and balmy notes in the background.

Longevity is litte bit poor, only 3-4 hours on my skin. Good silage though.

For a man fragrance this is a very pleasant, appealing and sensual one! I don't like it so much on myself, but it has to be great on a male skin! It smells dry and "tree". The cypress is particularly prominent and I like it in spite of the fact the cypress trees are often planted before cemeteries! It contains both cypress and incense but I can't feel any relation for funerals! Instead it smells very manly, proud and rigorous, still quite gentle. A good oriental for men. Antidote to Drakkar Noir and the alikes if you are tired of Rambo's scents!

This is a pretty simple, straightforward scent: fairly sweet, a little spicy, a little smoky, very woody. Though it's simple and fairly linear, it is a very rich scent: classy; unique; masculine, but sweet enough that the ladies can use it too; and well worth the bargain price. What made me an instant fan of Eau des Baux was the overwhelming dryness of the scent. The wood is a very dry cypress, which is particularly prominent in the opening, and that dryness is intensified by the smoky incense. When the sweetness of the vanilla and tonka start to come in, I think I can detect a hint of fruit somehwere in there, but I can't quite pin it down. As it dries down, it gets sweeter and sweeter, even to the point of becoming a little sharp and, honestly, the sweetness gets to be a little too much at times. I feel like it could have used a little something more in the base, which makes it a good choice for layering.

The cardamon is not long lasting as a single note .The cardamon does come on strong for the first few minutes, but is always mixing with the Tonka Bean creating a unique gormand touch, and when the cardamon hits the cypress, the cypress becomes intense. The cypress and insense are ever present in the top and middle notes, for the first 3 hours. Sometimes you smell the cypress, sometimes the insense, and they alternate like that, also sometimes you can catch them together-and it is such a fine scent. The dry down is a bit powdery, slighty ashy or smokey, a bit sweet-but the tonka bean is light. The perfume is pungent and sharp, and velvety, broad, and sumptious, at the same time. This is a fantastic scent ! I am female, and I enjoy wearing it ! The perfume is strong and the fixation is excellent. I actually find it to be very flat and dull on my male hoosband.
