Hypnôse Homme by Lancome

For: men Designer: Lancome Olfactive Group: Oriental Fougere
Video

After the success of Hypnose for women, Lancome launched masculine version of this perfume in a similar bottle. Actor Clive Owen is the new face of Lancome's Hypnose Homme men's fragrance. Perfume is built on a contrast between aromatic and oriental notes. The composition starts out with relaxing fresh notes of bergamot, mandarine and green mint note followed by a spicy cardamom accord. Its aromatic heart is made of lavender note from the South of France harmonized with spices and almond note. The oriental base is composed of patchouli from Indonesia, musk and amber. It was created by Maurice Roucel in 2007.

if you can't stand Le Male or 212 Sexy, Hypnose is a nice alternative and won't intoxicate the ones around you or choke you for that matter! 2 thumbs up!

This fragrance pretends to be a classic: One must admit that the nice design of the bottle, the name as well as the first impression of the scent itself make you wonder whether this has been around for years already.

But after a couple of minutes things go down. This is no classic, but rather an uninspired copy of Calvin Klein's Obsession. Considering that it comes 20 years late, this one ultimately loses favour in every respect.

I have to admit that I was not fond of Hypnose initially and put it aside. I came back to it weeks later and I'm glad I did. It is somewhat unique and, because it is, one has to allow time to establish a comfort zone with it especially if the bulk of your experience is with fresh or aquatic scents. You'll find Hypnose's opening perhaps more spicy than that to which you are accustomed. I normally don't appreciate a lot of spiciness but I've learned to really appreciate Hypnose. Give it time and Hypnose transitions from spice into something as warm and comforting as a cashmere sweater on a winter day.

I say that Hypnose is "somewhat unique". I've since acquired "Canali Men" which is very similar to Hypnose. The nose behind Hypnose is Maurice Roucel. He is the creator for Rochas Man and numerous fragrances from Guerlain, Gucci, Hermes, Frederic Malle, Bond No 9 and others. Hypnose definitely has a fine pedigree.

The opening is spicy with cardamom and mandarin orange. Over time, the cardamom fades into a very warm patchouli and amber.

Hypnose is complimented wherever I go. You will stand out but in a good way. I wear it to the office with wonderful results. It is perfect for the night life yet remains sophisticated enough for very formal ocassions. To others, Hypnose suggests that the wearer is bold and adventurous rather than a tame comformist. I highly recommend it.

EDIT: With regard to the comments in a subsequent review (above) that Hypnose is a copy of Obsession, I am compelled to respond. I've worn Obsession since it's 1986 debut and Hypnose since its debut in 2006. Other than both share lavender, mandarin, patchouli, and amber as ingredients, the two fragrances are not even remotely similar. Obsession is all about floral, cinnamon, and woods. There is relatively little spiciness to it other than the cinnamon. Hypnose is amber heavily dominated by spicy cardamom.

Girl at Duty Free Counter made me buy this after i had sampled many. Never really got my nose around this one and did not know what to expect. First time I wore it I had people asking me what i was wearing. Initial and Second notes are great but the dry down is simply fantastic. Lasts a long time. Great during Winter months, even better during summer.

An unimaginative name and a bottle design that, one guesses, was meant as traditional-cum-subversive' . . .
This is as elegant as wearing a tuxedo to a supermarket.

The kind of smell that hypnotizes. why? because of its mystery and charm. It's sexy and stylish, it's cuddling and exciting at the same time. I feel powerful and overtaken at the same time when I'm wearing this.

A nicely-tailored, warm fragrance - similar to many others, & yet distinctive. Refined, smart & well-blended - as Perfumaniac says "soft yet bracing". This, indeed, makes it very metrosexual (spot on, Chatnoir) & yet assured.

Incredibly warm & smooth, the citrus notes are fleeting leaving only a delicate squeeze of weak orange juice behind. The patchouli is tame, the cardamom is sweetened by vanilla & the rest of the amber-blend is very herbal (but not at all in a green-herbal way...all the corners are rounded off & buffed to a rich shine here).

I also get a scent-impression of the best quality leather, it mixes so well with the warmth of my skin that it is almost like my body's own animal scent. I imagine this would be very inviting on a man.

Good sillage & lasting power with a woody-amber dry down. Delicious! A winter treat.

It would make a great gift fragrance as I can't see anyone having an aversion to it: understated, but not to be underestimated.

It is the most mysterious smell i have ever met. I dont know if i like it or not, but cant stop myself smelling my wrist. It is very well refined that i cant distinguish any of the ingredients, i smell only the whole composition.
Very good sillage and long lasting.
Somehow reminds me lolita lempicka au masculin and antidote by viktor & rolf.
I think it really hypnoses.

I am Brasilian. This perfume is wonderful. Already the first time I used, I received several compliments. I have several scents, such as Jean Paul Guautier, Joop Homme, Versace Homme, Burberry London, Diesel Fuel for life, Usher, Eternity, Boucheron Pour Homme, but with certainty, Hypnôse Homme is one of the best. I recomend with praise! It is a sweet perfume in the right measure. Very masculine and super nice. Its setting is excellent. If you want to impress, use Hypnôse Homme.

Patchouli! That's largely what I smell here. I think from a distance the patchouli would not be so noticeable, but lift it to your wrist and you'll be blown away by it. I must say though, that I am biased, as I don't care for patchouli. If you like it then you'll definitely like this because it's nicely put together.

The whole house was smelling on it before i even open the box - it' s oriental, spicy, warm, woody scent. I can't say i like it very much but i find it very suitable for a night out, for club.. It reminds me a bit to CH 212 Sexy man but this is more hypnotic, mysterious.

A much more complex scent than its notes would indicate. Spicy, woody, and truly hypnotic, I love this on my husband. It smells very "metro" and refined. I like that this works equally well dressed up or dressed down.

A musterious fragrance that evokes modernity and fascination with its luxurious and masculine packaging. A symbol of modernity and originality that will reveal your bewitching power of seduction! A musky amber sensuality as base notes, a green aromatic floral signature in the heart notes and a spicy green freshnesss head notes.
Constructed so as to deliberately mix the bracing yet soft effects of a fougere (bergamot, lavender, coumarin, geranium, oakmoss...) and the warm deeper effects of an oriental. The perfume has notes of mint, bergamot, calabrian mandarin, chinese cardamom seed, essence of provençal lavender, amber, musk, and essence of indonesian patchouli.

It reminds me of Fahrenheit in the beginning, although they belong to different groups.
And although Hypnose seems to be a far simpler fragrance, I like it much better.
It's sweet in the beginning, but in a 'smart' way. Definitely, the opening is more interesting than the heart and the drydown. It fades quickly, turning delicate and not so exceptional, but still very pleasant.
I think it can be worn as a day fragrance in autumn/winter season by a man who has a strong, dominant position at work/in a group.

I agree with afraafra that it's longevity isn't very good. But, overall, Hypnose is just charming!
