Ligne St. Barth is a line of exotic fragrances from the island of Saint Barthelemy, located in the French Caribbean. Vanille West Indies is the smell of vanilla, creamy caramel and exotic orchid. The fragrance evokes the heat of the sunset in the Caribbean.
It is available as 50 ml perfume. Vanille West Indies was launched in 2007.
I dare say (with sorrow) that I used to see this perfume as a reference vanilla fragrance. It would be the dream-frag to those who are keen on the sweet "side" of this ingredient according to a sort of metropolitan fairy-tale that regards vanilla - often and obviously - as "gourmand" (do you remember the 2 schools: Guerlain'v. opposite to Caron's "creme brulée"...) In the reality vanilla is all but sweet! (see for example P.de Nicolai's Vanille extreme, or Mona di Orio's Vanille) or do this experiment at home: try a genuine vanilla's bean (normally we don't do it!) and you'll discover a bitter unsuspected flavor! Anyway. When it first appeared I fall in love as I've never tried any astonishingly over-more-over lasting fragrance (2 days, showers included!) than this before, which was also very beautiful and perhaps it's still the best frag in their line (apart from an unsurpassed Tiaré and a wonderful Sandal that unwisely they decided to "fire".) But now things are not so anymore and I suspect that also this Firm is doing something "strange".....not to say "normal"....
The new bottle I re-bought keeps a memory of the precedent (let's call it a vintage....only after few years?!? Yes!) always the same oily consistence, that I love!, the aroma is still good (but no more 'so good') that I hear every body asking 'what 's this good smell?' but the previous released V.W.I. was even better. Much better. Much more better for sure. So... I'd recommend to those who adores "sweetness" in perfumery and are not too afraid if they're wasting their money or not......
Long lasting.
At least.
I have been looking for a good vanilla scent. When i first put it on it was very sweet i thought it was going to be one of those i was scrubbing off right away! Im excited to say it actually smelt beautiful after awhile. I always get alot of people asking what im wearing.
Very, very, very sweet linear vanilla scent with a touch of orchid in the background and a prominent "burnt" note that lingers. Too sweet for me (which I never thought I'd say, as I LOVE either vanilla gourmand or fruity perfumes. I can't wear this - it's one thing if a perfume has a hint of dessert in it, it's another if that's all there is & makes you think about eating all day long! I think this could be really good layering it with another vanilla based perfume, but by itself it's not for me.
On a positive note, excellent staying power - an oil based perfume that lasts & lasts.
It's a bit ago when I tested this and the other scents. They were "ok" but not great. This one smelled like Vanilla, Orchids and Caramel, like the description says. If I remember right, I had the impression that the scents were very light and quickly fading. All in all I had more the impression of a body sprays or aroma sprays than of a perfume.
