I recently bought the pure perfume of L. As it is said to be enriched with patchouli I was really looking forward to see what a moderate amount of patchouli would do to the beautiful fragrance L.
What first hit my nose when I applied a drop from the heartshaped bottle was the smell of caramel. Not the chewy candy caramel, but the burnt sugar you get on top of your creme brulée. When the perfume began to bloom I could smell the bitter orange, immortelle and musk. Only the cinnamon seemed to be a more or less absent compared with the edp. The perfume has a more narrow and deeper perspective and developes seamlessly from the caramel-y top to the sensual sweet and musky dry down.
I think it is much more sensual than original L edp, and also more longlasting. But the sillage from my 15 ml splash bottle is low, so I layer it with the edp for better projection for the perfume, and duration for the edp. (I just wish I had a large bottle perfume with sprayer :)).
Edit: If you google on "The Heart Catcher" and "Spellbinding Quintessence" you will find the pure parfum in two different bottles on the LL site: The original L bottle (as I have) which is discontinued, and then the same juice in the bejewelled chrystal "Heart Catcher" bottle, priced to 700 € (!!).
From Lolita Lempicka's website:
"Elixir abandon exquisite with an extravagant amount of Patchouli, spiced with Bitter Orange and Everlasting Flowers".
I tried it on and found it to be very grounded, reminded me of someone in sitting in a leather chair smoking a cigar and reading a old book. While these things seem very male, it also seemed very feminine, earthy as if that person was a woman smoking a cigar and reading that book in a huge leather chair drinking scotch.
I did try it and then tried Bobby Brown's Beach and I was suddenly transported to 1975 Old Orchard Beach Maine in an Used Book store off the beach. I never had a smell/memory connection so vivid and intense
I went looking for info on this and this is what I found...
“L’Attrape-Cœur” (“The Heart Catcher”) is the name of the luxury edition of L by Lolita Lempicka. Signed Baccarat, the crystal-heart bottle is adorned with a golden net strewn with branches of coral and flowers, and the initial L set with blue topaz. Extract, limited edition, €800.
And...
Lolita Lempicka is issuing two luxury editions of Lolita Lempicka and L in order to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the brand. They are respectively called Transcendant Sin and The Heart-Catcher.
Lolita Lempicka perfume flacons, which are already noted for their exceptional designs, will be further enhanced thanks to crystal manufacturers Daum and Baccarat respectively. Lolita Lempicka which already exists in eau de toilette and eau de parfum concentrations, will be offered in pure extract concentration for the first time.
Both perfumes will appeal to patchouli lovers as the parfum versions feature the tantalizing leaves prominently.
For Transcendant Sin, the pure parfum version of Lolita Lempicka developed by Firmenich is said to have exacerbated notes of licorice and patchouli leaves. According to The Moodie Report,
"Daum is said to have drawn its inspiration for the crystal bottle from observing nature. The apple-shaped bottle is entwined in leaves and flowers made from violet and light green pâte de verre. The lid, with a stem that plunges into the bottle, is engraved with violet flowers and leaves."
The Heart-Catcher is even more bejeweled than usual,
"The crystal heart-shaped bottle is adorned in a golden net that holds elaborate coral branches and flowers. The initial L signature is inlaid with blue topaz. The crystalline lid is facetted like a precious stone."
The parfum offers pronounced notes of patchouli together with Everlasting/Immortelle flowers and bitter orange.
It seems it's L in a fancy collectible bottle, hence the price.
the fragrance is as gorgeous as the bottle!
