Ares EDP Fragrance Reviews

On initially discovering the Lord's Jester line, Ares was the first perfume that caught my attention. On receiving the samples Adam was kind enough to send me, I was quite smitten with this scent! Ares EDC is a warm, sexy fragrance that lasts on my skin (despite its Eau de Cologne concentration) and gently balances warm golden ambery incense aromas, with spices and sexy flowers on ancient dried woods. When I found out that he did an EDP of Ares, I jokingly said (having not yet tried it): "I want at least a half an ounce!". He said "Try it first.", so I did. On a cold cloudy PA autumn day, I spritzed Ares EDP on and went to town...

All throughout my day, I was HAUNTED by the warm beauty of this fragrance. It is not sweet like a gourmand or like a dessert; but it reminded me of molasses and how it is thick, and darkly sweet and so very comforting. Every time I moved (or my shirt did), I got this heavenly whiff of Ares...and sighed! I got no less than four comments on how good I smelled that day (from complete strangers)!

*For this review, I have the EDP on my left wrist, and the EDC on my right*

Immediately, the amber is evident (in both of the Ares'); but, in this eau de parfum it is brilliantly magnified. It opens similar to the EDC version; but instead of a shout, this is more like a battle cry! Woodsy, spicy and vaguely floral-it encompasses the wearer in its strong arms and holds you softly, but firmly. The heart is still warmly floral; only now there is something besides the woody lavender dancing with the delightful rose and jasmine of the original. Magnolia, with its soft balmy creaminess, and a thicker heady jasmine sambac take sensual to a whole new level. This smells so naughty...but so "good" at the same time. The drydown is so much richer here! The labdanum, amber and benzoin create a holy trinity of warm and delicious resins. The styrax and ambrette continue that ancient (yet virile and eternally youthful) feeling. The vanilla is now, instead of just a single "note" in this complex compostion, the main support to the amber; and covers it all in a deliciously sweet and smoky glaze. The addition of hyrax (africa stone) gives it a provocative hint of animalic musk. It is almost like the EDC was Ares all fresh and dressed in his best armor, posing for a statue (or flirting with a demigoddess); and the EDP is him as he has just returned from war...covered in sweat, full of life and vigor. (At the time of this review) I had not been "around" enough to sample such higly regarded scents as SL Ambre Sultan and its ilk; but I can say that this does smell easily as good, if not better, than many of those very costly "niche" scents (yet THIS is all natural). I may be biased, as I love warm, spicy and resinous oriental woody florals, but Ares EDP has swept in like a dashing warrior and conquered not only my nose...but my heart! Now, I want the largest size possible of this gorgeous juice. I wander: do they sell gallons of this?

Sillage: Very good
Longevity: Excellent
Overall: 5/5

I have it on good authority that Adam's very first perfume was an amber-based EDP called "Adam's Amber". He made it in a lesser concentration, an eau de cologne, for Ares first unveiling; no doubt fearing that people would find it possibly "too much". I find that this EDP is everything an oriental perfume lover (like myself) could possibly want: densely sweet yet dry, complex, long lasting and absolutely sinfully delicious! Many of you (who have read my other Lord's Jester reviews) may know that Heracles was the only other perfume, by this company, to receive a 5 out of 5 ranking. As far as I am concerned, this borders on the divine! It radiates warmth elegantly, while remaining well-balanced. It is amazingly gentle, yet strong at the same time and as it goes on, it just keeps getting better and better.

I usually wear one perfume in the morning and apply something else for the evening. With Ares (EDP) you don't have to do that. It stays with you and lasts for a remarkable period of time...without any synthtetics at all. All the while keeping you utterly and completely enthralled. Now that I started reviewing (and wearing) this House's scents with Ares EDC and came, at long last, to Ares EDP...I feel I have come full circle.
