The house of Lubin launches a new version of the masculine scent Idole from 2005 (which, on the other hand, is a modern interpretation of the fragrance from 1962). Perfumer Olivia Giacobetti, the designer of the original version, also signs the new Idole Eau de Parfum version.
The inspirations for Idole line are adventures and travels, discovering of new and exotic countries, fearlessness and desire for excitement. Idole Eau de Parfum is dedicated to extraordinary women like Alexandra David-Neel, Mary Kingsley, Amelia Earhart, Charmian Kitteredge and Karen Blixen, the adventuress who had traveled the world and explored new areas, their bravery and courage.
Notes of amber, labdanum and incense are added to the original fragrance formula. The opening consists of rum, saffron, black cumin and bitter orange. The heart follows with accords of Doum palm, smoked ebony, olibanum, incense and sugar cane. The base features leather, red amber, labdanum and sandalwood.
The new bottle is designed by Serge Mansau and Lubin Studio. The fragrance is available as 100 ml EDP.
Idole Eau de Parfum was launched in 2011.

I don´t know why but this perfume somehow reminds me of Black Cashmere by Donna Karan. It´s the same ultra-spicy, thick, dark melange that brings in some feminine sweetness and a daring, very daring attitude.
If you wear this scent you may be sure to be noticed. This witch brew will enhance your strongest inner feelings, at least it touched mine.
The gorgeous boozy rum kicks in with cloves, cinnamon and ginger in the beginning and develops to a woody, earthy honey-like mixture (altough by no means so sweet). The labdanum is noticeable. I think there is a bit peppermint in there, hidden amongst the spices.
Peppery, uplifting and extraordinary.
Idole EDP is primitive and at the same time refined. In short : this is black magic in a bottle.
I will get myself one - soon !
I will never get to understand why they needed to try to improve something that was just as close to perfection as it was the original Idole EDT.
That being said Idole EDP is just a sweeter, less leathery and polished verrsion of the EDT. The "improvement procedure" have paradoxically turned the fragrance into an out of focus picture of the original. Completely devoided of the former brilliance, Idole EDP compares to Idole EDT just like their bottles and packagings. Stylized, simpler, undetalied. Not bad at all but nowhere close deserving to be considered as an "improvement".
Stick with the original and if you have longevity issues (I don't), just reapply.
Rating: 6.5-7/10
It is a great perfume - rumy, woody, smoky, spicy - dark and thick. Love it.
It opens very boozy and spicy with the rum and saffron notes. I am liking this accord and I do believe I am picking up a little bit of cummin within this boozy
spicy mix.
As time has moved on I am getting a sweet woodyness poking through the boozyness and a touch of leather. This is wonderful and totally wearable and smooth. A touch
of incense and is that amber I'm smelling in the basenotes. Ahhhhh this is a good fragrance.
To sum up a wonderful boozy smooth spicy fragrance with woods and touch of leather that anyone could wear that gets sweeter in the basesnotes. If you ever shied away
from boozy fragrances but always wanted too try one then this is the one for you. Its smooth and easy to wear. I get about five hours out of it.
the mix of cumin, saffron, rum, dark wood = turpentine on my skin for some reason . But just a half hour later, it becomes a nice subtle spicy smoky scent. Unfortunately not long after that, it's barely noticeable. Nothing I would buy a full bottle of, I'm afraid, but I will enjoy the rest of my sample.
When I was testing the EDT a few years ago the sales person warned me it was a perfume for men. It was quite masculine, but I liked it so much, and was very excited to try the new EDP version.
This version is a lot more unisex and more suitable for women too, very thick, sweet and spicy, it is a symphony of boozy, woody and leathery notes; sometimes it is hard to pick out individual notes, but as a whole, they sound (or rather smell) beautiful. It starts of with a strong punch of rum and ebony wood and saffron, which are at the centre of the composition from start to finish. They are surrounded by the sweetness of sugar, delicate incense and sandalwood.
However, Idole EDP does remind me strongly of a few other fragrances (not only the EDT version), it is far from being ground breaking or very original, it is just a deliciously woody variation on the theme of woody/spicy fragrance. Very well made though.
I'm really looking forward to trying this - love the EDT, and the EDP sounds even better :)
Luckyscent has samples too.
