Dirty Lush for women and men

I originally bought this for my husband, who is pretty indifferent to fragrance these days (he used to bathe in Cool Water in the early 90s, but has given up as he's grown older). I wear it occasionally; we have it in both the solid and the smaller spray.

Top notes are a very powerful, wet spearmint, with some other aromatics thrown in (tarragon, thyme). The mint comes off the spray pretty quickly, leaving a pretty muddled mix of the middle and base: deeper aromatics like tarragon, thyme, a bit of neroli, not much lavender; much stronger sandalwood and oakmoss. As I said, the separation isn't great, which is a plus, I suppose, if you want to smell the same all day, but on me it just doesn't evolve.

The solid has a stronger topnote of tarragon, which makes it fresh longer, but it still is a bit muddy. It's a different, cheap and cheerful unisex aromatic fougere that doesn't smell like other men's fragrances.

This review is for the body spray. The top notes of mint with thyme and tarragon remind me of mint sauce. The kind with an acid bite that you make at home using freshly picked mint leaves. Chopped and mixed with sugar and vinegar. A hint of lavender can also be detected. To me it all smells very natural and from the garden.

The neroli becomes more noticeable after several minutes bringing a bitterness. The sandalwood and oak moss further develop the earthy character that is at the essence of this fragrance.

I tested the body spray at around 8 pm on the evening of purchase. The bottle gave a generous dose with a single spray being sufficient. Medium to high sillage and long lasting. The following morning the fragrance was still very noticeable when I awoke.

Dirty finds its final state after some hours but it is no longer of mint sauce. Instead it takes us back to when it was newly plucked from the garden. Ground clinging to its roots and leaves intact. Not the bright, spikiness of the opening but a quieter, earthier mint.

Sexy, seductive perfume, but not an every day scent, or else it could become 'annoying' if you get what I mean

@Bearbearina you should try Heeley Menthe Fraiche, which is miny with a little citrus...very fresh. Or maybe Creed selection Verte, IMO better but more citrus in with the mint.


As for Lush Dirty, tried this today after reading so many good reviews....and I get minty 'play-dough', or the recurring theme of used toothbrush.
Nowhere near as fresh as I'd expected, this one is off my 'to buy' list!

I am looking for a nice, crisp, cool, minty fragrance to wear in this hot and incredibly humid summer. Lush Dirty was highly recommended by people on the forums so I went straight to Lush to try it out.
The first 30 seconds after I sprayed it on myself was exactly what I was looking for! It was a nice, crisp, refreshing mint that did not have a sugary undertone which would have been cloying in the summer. I thought: perfect!
But less than 5 minutes later, the smell of mint had disappeared completely and left behind a very strong musk that goes straight up your nose and into your head.
The worst part is that it just wouldn't go away. Hours later, the musk was just as strong as it was when I first sprayed it (in spite of washing my skin repeatedly) and I had a migraine from the stink.
Thumbs down for me!

I absolutely love all of their range of perfumes....except this one.

I'll give it credit; it's other products such as the shampoo and soap are amazing, but the 'Dirty' perfume doesn't do it for me. Not a fan. It's one of the very few lush perfumes that smell horrid on me, but amazing on my partner.

This isn't for me, but who knows this could be the perfect one for you?

I bought it and I love it! Very minty, very fresh,clean, dry, longlasting but not overpowering.
I'm fan of minty fragrances, and it does my happyness in a different way from roadster by Guerlain, which is more complex, with a vanillic drydown, and my favourit one.

Much as I like Lush I am not a fan of Dirty. I feel the name is apt as there's a lot of oakmoss in here, but the peppermint kills it for me. I find it a novel combo, but mint is not a scent I enjoy in personal fragrance.. evokes chewing gum or toothpaste.

I get so many compliments on this. Green, fresh, herbal and clean!

Smells mostly like Spearmint & old time chap-stick. Musk at the end, almost a very light masculine version of Revlon's Jean Nate. Very "granola bar" meets relic man. Could come off as a lotion smell as well. More for a dude. The pay-off is it's longevity.

I have the solid version of this and I love it Its got an amazing cool mint tea smell lasts ages and smells incredible as well as cheap9/10

I don't know why but this smell reminds me of a summer holiday. Not in a tropical fruit and coconut type way but the smell of the fresh soft breeze. Maybe the smell of a slightly cool summer's evening by the pool.

You can't judge the perfume by this review but if you smell it you will know what I mean.

Minty??? yes but in a low key,very nice way.....Not toothpaste or gum.

I get the toothpaste / gum vibe with this, too. It's very strong and long lasting--and it maps well onto their intended concept (a way to clean up fast without a shower). I think it might have benefited from not being quite as harsh as it is, or even tamed a little. The notes make it sound far more complex than it is--it really does smell like strong, minty gum but with some weird herbal thing behind it.

I love lush with all my heart but this irritates my nose every time i spray it. And maybe my nose cant smell after a while But it seems to fade and doesnt fade too nicely. Just to a bland musk and then keeps fading to that single note. Wont buy this particular one again. Maybe karma.

It's a very refreshing mint very reminiscent of toothpaste or as other reviewers have said Wrigleys Doublemint Chewing Gum.

This is not a fragrance I reach for regularly, but every now and again when I feel like something refreshing & (aroma)therapeutic, this one really hits the spot.

It smells just like the Dirty Shower Gel so if you like that scent, you will like this too. It would definitely work for a man or a woman.

This does indeed smell pretty "Wrigley Doublemint Gum"-ish. It's a fresh mint but a dirty mint too! A well fitting name, something about it is spicy and, well, "dirty". This mint isn't sweet and candy-like, it's more like fresh-picked-from-the-garden spearmint that you're about to make tea out of.

Love love love this!! Used to be hooked on "Tramp" shower gel, but when it became retro and available only online, I tried this one. On my second visit to the store I also bought solid perfume and 30 ml spray bottle.
The smell is fresh, crisp and I can't get enough of it :DDD Bought it in June, for my husband, but I use it all the time now. Hope it will smell so good on me in the winter too.

messy minty noxious sh!t - my husband couldn't bring himself to wear it. smelled AWESOME, Wrigley's GUM in a funky & putrid way, and nummy all at once. GET over it - pull it off and you're 'bout to make some heads turn! LUSH! you people are insane...

my first impression is , hey who's chewing wrigleys spearment gum? a pretty crisp presentation of that right out of the gate, calms down a bit, a minty fresh type of smell. not bad. pretty good projection and staying power. the comments i got were of that sort, have you got any extra gum? i am not chewing any..oh?..interesting fragrance.. recommend sampling first, not an easy one to find. but worth a sniff, i like it.

You know, this really isn't my thing. However, I'm not the type of woman to wear anything remotely manly. I prefer to smell like sugar, fruit, and flowers. And also I am really not a fan of mint perfumes. That being said, I think this would be a great, fresh scent on a man and I like the smell of the Dirty hair gel on my husband. It's very "outdoorsy"

I'm using body spray. Lasts is amazing nearly 8-10 hours. From top to base dominant notes are Mint and lavender.
Perfect for hot summer days and after shower, some of my friends said to me smells like bath soap but good way.
Once you've tried, you may be addicted to the freshness.

I was lucky enough to be given a generous spray bottle of this by my dear friend Yamba1. I had been umming and aaahing about it for some time but had come to the conclusion that is would be more a man's thing than mine. BUT I have had to change my mind. It's terrific! Not an in-your-face peppermint, but as reviewer silentrich says "a dirty spearmint", tempered by underlying lavender, oakmoss and herbs. I would think it would come into its own in summer when you're feeling a bit hot and jaded. A spritz of this would perk you up! I love it, and it lasts well on my skin, too. Thanks Yamba1, as always!

This may sound weird but I find this perfume reminds me of the smell of a used toothbrush. A kind of faint minty..dry...somewhat plasticy smell.

Quite strange.

My signature scent. Opens up with the mint, thyme, and tarragon which gives it a dirty spearmint smell. The thyme and tarragon subside and the marine notes and sandalwood come into play which transforms the spearmint, marine notes, and sandalwood accord into something very clean. Projection and longevity are outstanding and when combined with the body spray, Dirty becomes addictive.

Received a nice compliment from a female coworker today. I used the shower gel, a quick blast of the body spray and the solid perfume on some pulse points. Guess I'm officially sold on this unique fragrance system!

I tried this because of the pretty color and I liked it because the warm mint notes sentimetaly reminded me of my grandma. Now I own the solid perfume and I am somewhat unsure if I really like it or not. It is a sofisticated scent, and I guess I'm not sofisticated enough.
I really like the solid version, but I've heard natural perfumes are undependable: the notes tend to shift from time to time, which is a little frustrating for me since I did not feel the lavander at first, but now mostly ONLY sense the lavander.

But I'll give it 8/10 for being so green and vegan. Lush is worth a try! The people are nice and other products, such as their deodorants, are really good!

I really love Dirty, like a lot.
I think it has the potential to be a unisex scent, but a lot of people would regard it as typically male. In any case, I've always been more partial to colognes and male fragrances. They just smell clean and nice, not sickeningly sweet like three ring circuses and patchouli oil. Bleh.
Anyway I tried the solid perfume out on my skin, and I really like it. It smells clean, fresh, crisp, and not at all cloying or "astringent", if you know what I mean. I think it's really nice. I've been thinking about going and buying one, but I'm saving up for another scent I have my eye on right now. I can only hope it isn't discontinued by the time I get around to it. That's one thing that irks me about LUSH. They discontinue everything!

It does exactly what it says. Very refreshing and a bit spicy. An interesting and clean smell that stands out on its own. Great price I think, 160g body spray but lasts surprisingly long.

The BEST....I catch strangers sniffing around me all the time. Ha ha. Everyone pays a compliment. Nice clean fresh masculine scent. Lasts a great while.
The Body Spray lasts longer than the Perfume Spray, but found out it is meant to be layered as they have a slight different variance in the notes and strengths to play off one another and combine harmoniously. I tried this and WOW!!! Layering the Lush Dirty products is the way to go, no doubt.

It's sold as unisex. But this reminds me of my dads old smells in the 1980s. Brut, Old Spice with a hint of mint.

I'm a girl but I use the body spray since I do not want to smell sickeningly-sweet all the time; also, it is such a classic, CLEAN scent that I have gotten so many compliments on how fresh I smell!

Dirty is pretty bizarre indeed. It smells like stale mint, bitter marine notes (?), sandalwood and thyme. Dry and fresh, kind of odd but somehow compelling and distinctive. It sells for $17 in a 180ml size and it comes in a Windex Glass Cleaner-like spray. If you don't take it too seriously it is worth a try!

Be careful though, this stuff is highly addictive.

I have the body spray, and I bought it for the gym! It smells surprisingly good; the mint first but then a sweet herb- probably the tarragon, along with the sandalwood. The sensation is like the mint chewing gums. It's not complicated, but it's incredibly long lasting, and I have been using it as a perfume- deodorant by itself! I wouldn't wear it in combination with other fragrances, as it's quite strong... Not a smell that I would go out in the evening, but a refreshing and invigorating one, that I enjoy wearing!

Edit: Now I also have the shower gel! Really good too!

This does just what it says on the tin: brilliant for instant and long lasting freshness all through the day :-)

I bought the big spray bottle of body spray earlier, on my skin it has lasted over 10 hours. I can smell mint and lavender mostly, I've had someone say it smells like a 'Spa' which can't be a bad thing! Very interesting smell, it's so clean and refreshing, brilliant sillage and longevity.

They said it was for men in Lush, it is quite masculine but I think women can easily pull it off on a hot summers day. Can't wait till we actually do have some of those so I can spray it liberally!!
