Oud Maison Francis Kurkdjian for women and men Pictures

The famous perfumer Francis Kurkdjian launches a new fragrance within his perfume collection Maison Francis Kurkdjian in early May 2012. The fragrance is simply named Oud, focusing on this exquisite accord. This oriental scented material that had been neglected for decades has returned in a big way in recent years and most of the niche perfumery houses dedicated at least one edition to it.

The aroma is rich and luxurious, representing a modern interpretation of the ancient Arabian perfumes. Francis Kurkdjian uses oud from Laos, where it is the purest and the most expensive. Oud is enriched with woody and spicy notes of cedar, patchouli and saffron.

It is available as 70 ml Eau de Parfum.

The most modern(not the best) oud so far in the western market, i compared it to Killian Oud, Tom Ford Oud Wood, Byredo Oud Immortel,Creed Royal Oud and Amuage-
FK OUD sets apart from the middle eastern oud, nothing animalistic about it just minimal and classy, longevity could have been better.

IT
Adesso so che non è mai tardi imparare le cose nuove. Prima ho detto: non compereò mai il profumo di Francis Kurkdjan... Poi, ho scoperto che l'ho già fatto addirittura 3 volte (Silver Shadow Davidoff for men; Fleur du Mâle Jean Paul Gaultier for men e, comunque, Le Male Jean Paul Gaultier for men) mi vergogno dalla mia ignoranza.

Now I know it's never too late to learn new things. Once I told that I will not ever buy any perfume of Francis Kurkdjan ... Then, I discovered that I've already did it... even 3 (!!!) times: Silver Shadow Davidoff for Men, Jean Paul Gaultier Fleur du Mâle for men and, obviously, Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male for men. I am ashamed of my ignorance.

Talking about this perfume, I have to observe that it's really wonderful creation, - some kind of prezious aroma of lightness and happiness that stay with you whole day. You can hardly feel the classic Oud in this mix, but in the case of this fragrance I do not mind at all.

not for me, although I love francis' work in general. it smells like an acid oud, I know oud originally smells like medication, but some brands just did a great work with oud like the precious oud of van cleef.

GUMMY BEARS...

As this has been out a little bit and no one has taken a crack at it yet, I'll give it a shot.

Just to get things clear right off the bat, this is going to be a positive review. However that it might appear that I'm making reference to this one, I can assure you now that it's in a positive light. MFK blended this well, and it smells like it's made out of quality stuff.

Now that that's been said, let's move on to what might be the deterrent for some: The entirety of this fragrance smells more or less identical to the top notes of Bond no 9's New York Oud, minus the plum.

That's it.

Really.

MFK has utilized the same saffron/oud combo with the patchouli playing in the back round that Bond used for it's opening. The only difference here is that with the MFK offering you get 8+ hours of that combo with no plum (whose addition to the New York Oud doesn't make much difference in the sillage anyway), instead of the fleeting 45 minutes or so that the Bond gives off until it eventually fades into a dry down that could be the "kissing cousin" of Montale's Black Aoud.

The MFK just basically swaps out the rose for cedar wood, yet all the while not letting the saffron/oud combo ease up too much.

Now in layman's terms if you're unfamiliar with these notes in general, or with the fragrance I'm comparing it with, what exactly does the smell of that particular combination translate to? As I found only a marginal difference between New York Oud's top notes and the MFK overall, I'll just try and explain the response the saffron/oud pairing elicits from either one of these.

The last time I visited the US two months back, I was about to go out one night and I threw on two sprays or so of New York Oud (I'm going for the top note saffron/oud combo here so bare with me) just moments before I headed out to the car. When I got to the car, the girl driving with me sat still and sniffed for a second. She then looked over at me kind of smiling, and said something like, "You smell like gummy bears. Don't get me wrong, you smell really good... but like.... really good gummy bears!"

We laughed about it, but honestly , after she said that, I would have to say that I agree with her. This particular saffron/oud blend (with saffron as the lead and oud as the supporting role) gives off this sort of "gummy bear" vibe that's prominent when they're both working together. MFK's Oud is essentialy that: A full wearing of that same "gummy bear" aura.

So that's really all there is to say about this composition. If you're like me, having smelled Bond's New York Oud and wished the top notes would have just hung around longer, MFK has crafted our solution. However, if you're looking for a more oud-centric composition, then this might not be your cup of tea.

All that being said, I only sprayed it with three sprays from the sample vial, and it lasted over nine hours on my skin (I fell asleep after that point, so it might have been longer). It's well blended, and I think it smells good. The price point is what's to be expected whenever "Oud" is mentioned anywhere in the name, so this would be a rather spendy blind buy if you're gutsy.

Would I recommend it?

I would probably have to know how much you like gummy bears first.

(And for those who are more concerned about the following; yes, it seems to project well, it lasts a long time, people will complement you, blah blah blah, etc. etc.)
