Mat Chocolat by Masakï Matshushïma

I had huge hopes for Mat Chocolate. Based on the notes, I figured this would either be a resounding wonder or a flop on me.

Sadly: flop. Please bear in mind that this review is based on what my chemistry does with this scent. On you, it may be ambrosia.

But on me the citrus opening is muddied, grapefruit and currant combine in a weird slurry to give the early drydown a bilious aspect. It's even a little vomit-y at this point, the sharp tang of throwup in the background.

The vomit part passes pretty fast, thankfully, but then when the chocolate comes in it doesn't make up for how bad the opening is. The chocolate here tries too hard to be literal, and ends up smelling plastic-y. I get the same sort of fake chocolate that you have in little kids' chocolate scented lip balms. Not something one wants in a grown up fragrance. This then is layered on top of the base of sandalwood, and the whole thing is just a jumbled shrill mess.
