The selective perfume line Memento continues promoting beautiful moments in various parts of Italy, due to the Italian Olfactive Landscapes project. 6 Marzo 2008, ore 11 - Piazza Duomo, Ortigia, Siracusa – Sicilia is the second fragrance from this collection, dedicated to a spring day on the island of Ortigia (south of Siracusa). This perfume was created by Marie Salagmagne in 2008. The basic notes are: neroli, freesia, jasmine, immortelle, note of hay, cedar, amber, patchouli, myrrh and agarwood. The package designer is project: Annalisa Pagetti - A+, picture: Laura Sciacavelli. The nose behind this fragrance is Marie Salamagne.
Thank you Wega, your review is quite comprehensive. The Piazza Duomo in Siracusa is a very arid place - there are just stones around, and no herbs at all, and of course no flowers. But probably the sharp, salty and dry feeling you describe is an exact olfactive account of what you can sniff in the air in that place, especially in summer. (The little Island Ortigia is of course surrounded by the sea). In Europe, except for Italy, this and other perfumes from the same niche house Memento Italian Olfactive Landscapes (now called Made in Italy) seem to be difficult to find.
I've never been to Sicily (or even Europe, for that matter), so I can't tell if this scent evokes the area or not... I would guess, though, that it is a scent of the countryside, baked in the heat of a late August day. I'm mainly getting Cedar, and lots of it, but there's also an arid hay and cut herbs aura. My skin has muted any floral notes, so what remains is sharp and a bit bitter, dry, but still pretty. I am feeling a bit of amber, which sometimes translates to me as salty skin.
I like it.
I found my sample at IndieScents.com but shipping was reasonable here in the US. Their international rates appear to be quite high.
Didn't anyone try this perfume so far? I've just visited Siracusa, Sicily and have seen the beautiful Greek-Norman Piazza Duomo in Ortigia, so I'd be interested to know what this fragrance smells like...
I'd also like to know where it could be found.
