Baryshnikov fragrance for men was introduced in the 1991. The bottle was designed by Pierre Dinand in agreement with Mikhail. Available as EDT.
I used this product and my wife loved it. She has asthma and can't get along with alot of colognes. This one was subtle and not overwhelming. I myself really liked it because it didn't project it's scent around the corner alerting others of your presence like many do colgnes do. I wish they would reintroduce it, or make something that is very close to it. Barishnikov sport isn't even close.
I still have my old bottle of this. It reminds me somewhat of Calvin. I love the way it starts off like a herbal, floral scent but I like the drydown somewhat less because it transforms into a leathery, somewhat salty, sandalwood scent with little hints of the floral, herbal. My biggest complaint is that it doesn't seem to last very long on my skin. All-n-all, it was a pretty good scent but certainly not worth the high price I've heard people asking for it on e-bay.
I was lucky enough to pick up an 8ml mini of this fragrance online. It is correctly categorized as an aromatic fougere, as it starts off with an absolutely beautiful soft plush herbal accord. It quickly moves into a floral dominated phase with carnation definitely in the mix along with artemisia and a lush mossy base. This middle phase smells very similar to something else I have smelled, but I can't place it yet. Slightly like the original Calvin, but not nearly as rough, much more novice friendly. I would put his in a category with some of my favorites such as Aramis 900 and Van Gils original, maybe even Jules, but there is very little animalic about this scent, much more floral/herbal, until it dries down. Then there is something like sandalwood and even a hint of leather. I have to say that I do like this well blended fragrance. Is it worth the astronomical prices people are asking for the remaining bottles? I would have to say NO, but if you can get your nose on some for a reasonable price, there is enough worth sniffing here that I will recommend it. Thumbs up.
I had a bottle of this 20 years ago. I can't remember all the notes but I loved it and thought it was a quality fragrance. I have seen bottles on EBay go for lots of money. Wish I could find an affordable bottle somewhere or that it would be re-issued.
