Aoud Leather incorporates a warm of the leather note with spices, citrus and amber. The perfume was launched in 2009 and it belongs to the Golden Selection collection. Note composition: Calabrian bergamot, Indian pepper, cardamom from Guatemala, saffron, amber, oud and leather. Available as 100 ml EDP. The nose behind this fragrance is Pierre Montale.
Aoud is not a note I am very familiar with, and so in Montale as a brand. The sales assistant recommended this one as a good way to start with getting to know more about both.
It is very woody-leathery. It is not the leather I know from Hermes fragrances (posh and elegant), or Tom Ford Tuscan Leather (elegant but wild). The leather here is strong, peppery with a big dose of saffron, and, of course, agarwood. I would classify it as an 'exotic leather', something you would bye at a stall in Africa, rather than in an European store.
It has its charm, but it does not tick with me. It is beautiful, but for me, too harsh and spicy for me too wear. For the lovers longetivity would be a huge plus- it lasts a long while on the skin.
I had great expectations on Aoud Leather but they've been only patrially satisfied. I approached this fragrance thinking about a sort of improvement on the bold animalic structure of Aoud Cuir D'Arabie, but wat I smelled was a polished and somehow week smoky leather. The oud is barely perceptible and the leather is almost left alone with the exception of some citrus in the opening and the usual Montale's musky/ambery base.
The overall effect is quite enjoyable but not much interesting. Lasting power is among the weekest in the Montale's Aoud range.
Rating: 6-6.5/10
I didn't like the opening, the heart, the drydown of this Montale. Sorry but for me it has not the quality and complexity of a niche frag. Strong and real leather smell, but otherwise a disappointment.
Looking for leather? You got it.
Very skillfully crafted. One of those perfumes that make me wonder the subtle art of perfumery. A small differing in the perfume's dosing proportions could make the LEATHER go away.
Just leather. What a delight!
Unfortunately, this turns sweet on my skin after half an hour.. I should spray it on hair or fabric.
All in all, it's a great linearic scent.
smells like pure leather to me.
could be a turn-on a man wearing it therefore i am not sure this meant for me.
As the inaugral reviewer of this scent I feel like I should be all insightful and stuff. Unfortunately, Aoud Leather doesn't give me much to work with.
Despite the notes involved here this is very pared back. Who knew that mixing aoud with a frosted leather would result in a whole new genus which I like to call 'Leather Aquatic'?
Interestingly, neither the aoud nor the leather stand out as notes as such, they create more of a texture. Clean, cool, medicinal & fresh.
It is the saffron & dusty pepper which is standing out for me, adding an earthy herbaceous aspect to the mix. And giving me a headache.
An interesting fragrance, reminiscent of a skeletal bare-branched winter tree with crackling dew on the rich bare earth beneath.
I can't think of a single occasion when I would wear this.
