It is ever so interesting to read how different people's views are on a fragrance. If I had just read RosaMilena's I would have never even sampled this because I am not a huge fruity/strawberry fan. But I didn't and what I got from this was completely different (though her review is AMAZING!) I got the blast of rose from this right away and its not your typical rose scent, it is more creamy/pungent rose I don't know which. But I love the citrus note that I get right after. When it warms up on my skin I git a very sugary vibe which I will attribute to the vanilla. I put it on this morning and I can still smell it all around me so far I am looking at 5 hours now. That's pretty good in my book. I really am pleased with this find.
Rose Elixir opens and cruises through the central notes with a bucket full of candied strawberry fruit compote. A dash of roses, a bit of fruit juice, a tiny whiff of orange blossom round out the strawberry dessert. I happen to like strawberries which is a good thing. There is no gourmand excess other than this particular event thankfully. The vanilla is reasonably restrained. The ambergris and musk bolster the entire decadently rich fruitiness into a marginally elegant drydown.
But really it's all about strawberries. It could easily be a fruity chypre if they just threw in some oakmoss and a tad of patchouli. This actually reminds me a great deal of Miss Dior Cherie EDP 2011 with it's stewed strawberries as well. As fruity florals go, it's an excellent fruity floral. Those who truly enjoy strawberry will love this.
An oudless rose perfume from the house of Montale? Yes, here it is: ROSE ELIXIR. This creation really caught me off guard. First, I assumed that the "elixir" would be amber or benzoin or some other resinous note(s). In fact, the elixir is a super sweet and concentrated fruit syrup! My guess was "red berries," but strawberries are identified as the primary source of the fruitiness of this composition. These are not straight-up strawberries, though. No, they have been cooked and reduced in a vanilla sugar syrup to produce a liquid with the viscosity of an elixir but the flavor of a candy. An all-natural, delicious, sparkling and bright candy, but it is candy nonetheless. By the drydown, some of the sugar syrup has evaporated away, leaving behind a very nice layer of rose, but this perfume really is quite sweet for an hour or so.
It may seem difficult to believe that Montale would release a fruity-floral perfume such as this, and I have no doubt that there were some disgruntled blind buyers who assumed that this would be a part of what one of my fragrant friends refers to as "the holy rose trinity" of Montale rose perfumes: OUD ROSE PETALS, ROSE MUSC, and OUD DAMASCUS. No, ROSE ELIXIR, defying its name, is much closer to Yves Saint Laurent PARISIENNE. If that happens to be your genre, then you cannot go wrong with this scrumptious-smelling candied strawberry rose, but only fruity-floral lovers need apply!
Definitely smells sweet, sweet, sweet at the beginning. I'm fine with it though, because it's fruity-sweet, not sugary-sickly sweet. Over time the fruity smells abate, and I'm left with more of the rose. It's a very pretty rose, actually, and you can smell the other florals in there as well. Compared to other fruity-floral perfumes, this is far more based in the fruity smell rather than the floral, but it's a nice change from most other floral-fruity perfumes. It doesn't smell department-store to me, honestly, the layering of the fruity smells is just too rich for that.
This fragrance smells more yummy strawberries rather roses. Another one roses disappointment by Montale.
Was disappointed: too much chemical, too sweet, seems to spray plastic , and doesn't take a definite direction. He wants to please the lovers of pink fruity, but in reality disgusted - not caresses, pinching and not only gracefully - . A 'missed opportunity: in the species is easy find much better.
This is so pretty and fresh, it's a luscious Rose, sparkling and fizzy, like Champagne! The sweet strawberries & citrus notes are all here. It's a "True Rose" smells so real....mmmm I will be buying a bottle, perfect for spring/summer and for Celebrating!
Why do I smell patchouli? Especially in the beginning. After that it turns nicer and lighter but for some reason just gives me headache.
I find it very similar to Miss Dior Cherie
I just LOVE this perfume!
To me it's a mystical blend of roses, musk, white flowers, vanilla and amber.
It's so fresh and uplifting yet it's still classy and elegant and beautiful.
When I wear it a lot of heads turn, and I get asked a lot about it ;)
It's also sweet makes u feel so special like a princess ;)
It's strange but I don't smell as much strawberry in it.. To me it's more floral and musky.
It's staying power is great! It's one of few perfumes which can actually linger around and stay on you clothes for a whole week!! WOW
The scent greets you upon opening your closet! (if you hadn't washed the perfumed piece yet)
On my skin it stays all day and sometimes to the next morning (until I shower!)
I LOVE YOU Roses Elixir!
THANK YOU Montale!
This is my first Montale perfume and it won't be the last :)
Sweet and slightly boozy, Roses Elixir is an energetic, bright fragrance. This is my favorite "vacationey" rose, perfect for days when you don't want to take anything seriously. It starts out bright and citrusy, but after a few minutes it develops into to an almost chocolately, creamy warmth. It makes me think of chocolate covered strawberries, fresh roses, and champagne! It hints of La Rose Angel, occasionally, which I love, but this is unique, and perfectly fun.
Sweet and fun scent at first..then becomes floral, sharp and tart with a little hint of musk. The jasmine I can detect very much and the orange flower. On first spray, I thought this was going to be an instant love for me. However, the very tart-y floral dry down is a bit much for me and it makes me want to wash off this scent. Very green. Good scent for spring.
I hated it first! Smelled VERY floral and..synthetic and just really BAD!!! But after a couple of hours it turned into very nice fresh, strawberry smell..But I don´t know if it is worth buying a perfume just because of the drydown..
This is very synthetic and horrible. I have to remove the sample from my sample box because it messes with the smell of other samples
I don't find this overly sweet at all. I actually really smell the earthiness of the strawberry leaves at first. The rose is prominent but quite green, then the musk, a hint of white florals. It is actually a smidgen like Victoria's Secret Strawberries and Champagne in the beginning. There is a slightly dry bittersweetness that I would liken to a rose wine or a sparkling white maybe, or perhaps a mixture of both. Pulpy earthy strawberry. The notes are blended very well. Wow, the musk gets very lovely as it wears on. Very very gorgeous slightly sweet natural muskiness. Mmm. It has really nice sillage. You'd only need a spritz or two. The drydown is beautiful.
If you were to check this rose's petals I'm sure you would find quite a few cavities. She apparently has a sweet tooth. (so to speak) I'm not sure it's entirely her fault though. She was obviously born to like the sweeter things in life.
This rose smells like she's been dipped in vanilla and then rolled in strawberry sugar. If you are prone to headaches from perfume I'd RUN at even a glimpse of the box on this one. The sweetness is unrelenting and devours the rose entirely.Poor thing~she never had a chance.
Initial notes of lemon and water blooming into white flowers and orange blossom, peony and bitter citruses. On dry-down makes me think of lace and porcelain dolls. A sweet yet decidedly unromantic scent, friendly and innocent. Candied angel wings and dried orange curls. Almost Victorian as it fades away over hours into sugared lemon, roses and vanilla.
This Montale is too tart and sour for my taste. I can smell roses but only faintly because of all the other things mixed in. Not my favorite.
All day enjoying wearing my sample of Roses Elixir I have been reminded of some scent I used to wear long ago -- but was unable to identify until just now: Spiritual Sky Strawberry Perfume Oil!
This Montale is a beautiful, upscale, wonderfully-made, rich and lovely scent similar to that sweet, cheap oil.
That said, I DO love it but would only wear it in private for my inner flower child; roses and strawberries are not what I equate with sophistication or allure! Peace, love and harmony, though, absolutely!
this scent is nothing special.very fruity and too less roses....it disappointed me!!!i do not feel comfortable with montale's fragrancies so i do not find noone of them particularly well blended.i always find them cheap and rose elixir isn't an exception
I like this one too!
Sweet strawberry with roses and again, a touch of salt background.
Remind me Elle de Yves St-Laurent but way better. More natural.
Like this and want something like that for my GF.
edit: oct 03, My GF like it but not greatly. Too sweet for her.
I’ve been on a serious rose kick for a while. Over the past year, I’ve sampled different renditions of the Queen of Flowers—sweet, innocent, sharp, or mysterious—and some of these have left a lasting imprint on the landscape of my olfactory experiences, so I was excited to try Roses Elixir.
Roses Elixir is a green interpretation of the flower. The rose is not prominent to my nose; rather, it serves to highlight the herby, green notes and strawberry leaves (more so than the fruit itself). The fragrance is sometimes described as sweet, but the sweetness is barely there. The rose makes a subdued appearance in the heart of the perfume, toward its second stage, and the base is almost chypre-like.
The notes list vanilla though I don’t register this note well. Overall, this is a fresh, summery, well-crafted take on green, citrus rose that is only a tad sweet. In fact, it reminds me of a couple of Les Parfums de Rosine creations where the rose is similarly used to accent other elements.
As for my personal preferences, I liked Roses Elixir well enough, but it would not replace my favorite Hermessence Rose Ikebana, which is also fresh, but is juicier, fruitier, and livelier than Roses Elixir. Although Roses Elixir doesn’t have powerful sillage, it lasts fairly long on me.
EDIT: The last couple of days have been cooler, and the fruity notes are more conspicuous to me (or perhaps my perception has changed).
