This cute green bottle with a tassel, does smell a lot like Light Blue, but with a sweetness added. Though, something about it seems a bit "sticky",though. It is lemony, not citrus, but sweet lemon. Unfortunatly, it wears close to the skin. Not much projection at all. If you like Light Blue, you might like this, and the bottle is way cuter, and the price is way better.

The most beautiful packaging (lead to my blind buy of gift set at TJ Maxx) but all I smell is tons of musk that I don't like, and a little lemon. Or maybe its not the musk but the musk-cedar combination that bothers me? I smell a similar strong note in the heart and drydown of ET Violet Eyes, another perfume that doesn't work for me at all. This kind of perfume definitely works on some (many women smell fine in Lt Blue, for instance, which gives me the same vibe as Shanghai Butterfly in much gentler form, but I smell very masculine and over-musked in this type). Ever get so disappointed with a blind buy that you get mad and throw out the perfume and feel better when it is in the trash? That's what I did. So silly. Never realized til lately (thanks, Fragrantica) that I can TRADE these for something I do like.

I ordered a sample vial of this from eBay. I didn't get Oriental from this at all. It was kinda grassy, and really reminded me of Lovely from Sarah Jessica Parker. A clean scent, but not one I'm going to purchase in the bottle.

This smells exactly like Dolce and Gabbana's Light Blue. They have nearly the exact fragrance notes.

The initial note on me is sweet apple & Middle notes smelled like a mixture of lemon, and what smells like lime, I didn't get any woodsiness on my skin.

This came out after Light Blue and if you had a blind sniff-test, I really don't know if you'd know the difference between the two.

I just got my bottle from Fragrancenet, and I tried it, first of all it is strong on application, strong candy apple scent? Haven't gotten anything remotely oriental or floral yet.

I purchased this on ebay without ever smelling the scent. I went by the reviews on this page and the cuteness of the bottle. I thought it would smell mysterious and sexy. At first spray, I couldn't believe it smelled like a dirty ashtray...then some sweetness. Like a cheap cigar. UGH. I am trying really hard to like it since I spent $25 on a large bottle! So I spray again, hoping for some change, but there is none, and it does not smell oriental at all or remind me of butterflies either!

This scent is hard for me to describe because it has so many layers, and I smell something smoky, even though it is not listed in the notes- maybe it could be the musk mixed with woodsy, powdery and spicy notes? My Signature scent is D&G Light Blue and I Love Love since they smell exactly the same to me, I smell these same notes in the middle notes of Shanghai Butterfly, but this fragrance has a more mysterious quality to me. To me it is a perfect multi-layered blend of scents.

At first spray it is strong but in a few minutes it calms down into an intoxicating seductive scent with an alluring smoky pipe tobacco undertone-but pleasant, not overpowering-reminiscent of a classy, sophisticated old-world gentleman's club wrapped in cedar hardwoods from centuries past. I actually quite like this since it is so unique to anything I have ever smelt before. No mistaking, it is not anything like the "gentleman's" clubs of today, but rather beautifully antique, but NOT old by any means, it is definitely not your Grandmother's perfume, but instead rather young, but not at all Juvenile. When wearing it I almost feel as though I could be the lady in the Grace Kelly's L'Instant Taittinger poster wearing a sleek curve-hugging sexy but classy black dress with a glass of Champagne in one gloved hand and in the other a long bakelite cigarette holder- vintage, sophisticated, beautiful, but young. Wonderful, almost fantasy-like :)

As time passes I still smell the smoky woody undertone, but it is lighter. A different feeling of time and place, but oddly one in the same- if that is possible. At this point I start to smell the clean citrusy notes which remind me of a beautiful sunny day with a light breeze filled with butterflies, carrying with it scents of fresh citrus fruits and clean summer air. It seems that most people open with the citrusy notes, but I don't smell these until later on. I would highly recommend this fragrance to anyone who looks for that "dream-like" quality in a fragrance.

If D&G Light Blue is a pair of Louboutins then Shanghai Butterfly is a sturdy, well-made pair of Nine West stilettos. Some of us may be coveting D&G but need to watch our pennies. This is the economical answer to satisfying the D&G need.

The longevity of this fragrance is very satisfying and the sillage even rivals its D&G counterpart. There is more of a sour apple in the opening but it isn't enough to really compromise the likeness to D&G. And to be honest, if I had to choose which bottle I would prefer to display I'd gladly go with the cheeky cyan bottle any day.

At $10 I am in no position to do any kind of complaining and I certainly do not feel the need to shell out $60 simply so I can have a bottle that says D&G. No one needs to be the wiser!

Edit: This is a strange bird of a fragrance. I am learning--on Fragrantica, other forums, and among friends and family--this fragrance is very mercurial if not downright polarizing. I think I am lucky that this plays well on my skin; my brother's gf tried it and spent an hour periodically scouring this off her wrist. She is still bearing a grudge for the experience. This is not a safe blind-buy unless you can find this for $10 and be okay with the gamble of either loving this or hating this (there is no "meh" when it comes to this fragrance).

I bought this unsniffed at TJMaxx, mainly because the bottle is so cute. Unfortunately, the scent doesn't work for me at all. It's very heavy, and within a few minutes it is a very old-ladyish powder smell. I can just smell the spicy and fruity notes underneath, but they never make it to the top and it stays pretty much the same on me for the next few hours. Strong, sweet, powdery, and synthetic. I was anxious to try the original Nanette Lepore, but this one changed my mind.

Shanghai Butterfly to me smells citrusy with a bit of light floral then a slight spiciness. Almost like Green tea with a citrus zing. It has a very happy disposition. I have read other reviews that say it smells very young- it is not Britney Spears young smelling (aka cotton candy & raspberries) it may be a young form of an oriental but not a candy coated sweet scent in any way. It does not have that cheap powder smell which I cannot stand & find to be choking nor does it any big time vanilla scent to it another yuck factor for me- it is clean scent which I like Its great for daytime & I agree with another review- it does NOT last long enough.

It was love at first scent, however after awhile, I noticed the scent smelt very "medicinal" on me...it's been over a year & the bottle had a horrid smell now; hence, I think the smell expires very fast.

I ordered a small size of this just to try it - OMG what a waste. I can't quite describe the scent because I think the fumes erased my perfume-memory zone as a defense. Truely yuck.

This was a gift from my mom. I like it, a bit different. However, it is very sweet and does not last long at all- maybe two hours max. Pass.

I regret not buying this one because now I can't find it anywhere. It's light, but somehow complex. Sweet citrus on a sandalwood and musk base. In a way it reminds me of Light Blue, but it's somehow richer and has more depth. It's great for casual days.

This was too crisp/sharp for me so I gave it to my husband. He loved it.

I have to admit that when I borrowed this from my husband during a vacation on the Mediterranean, the scent that hit me coming out of the water was beautifully soft.

I got a tester vail of this and wore it today. Light, airy, and very innocent. It made me feel like I should be wearing a sweet, ruffled, flower pattern sundress. Great for spring or summer. Young, but not childish. This makes me feel like a girl who hasn't had to endure the problems of adulthood yet.
A Clear, bright and pleasant fragrance. I would buy a full bottle.

I just came from Marshalls and found the 1.7 oz gift set of Shanghai butterfly it came with a 1.7 oz spray a 2.6 oz lotion and a roller pen all for $9.99 same as I paid for the single bottle! YAY! Such a good price and the box is so pretty it is black velvet on the bottom and has a satin lid decorated with the same decorations on the bottle! I also found the 3.4 oz Nanette Lepore pink bottle gift sets last week for $14.99 such good prices I am so exited about this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The first spray of Nanette Lepore- Shanghai Butterfly was a true blast of fresh air and happiness to my senses putting an instant smile on my face. :) This is my idea of the scent of "sunshine" and joyous emotions, good times and positivity. Cute little butterfly kisses!

This is a smell for a girl or woman who wants to smell clean, sweet and inviting. Much like the yellow butterflies I've been seeing the past few days Shanghai Butterfly is light and fluttery YET bright and loud all at the same time. It starts out smelling of sweet lemony citruses, musk and green snow apple. Yes, its yells happy! The top notes dance around waving its wing right on past the flowery heart notes. If anything the flowers are the balancing act to create a beautiful femininity to the three powerful woodsy bottom notes (cedar, sandalwood and white woods).

I can see Shanghai Butterfly getting loads of compliments from all sorts of people big and small! It has a captivating aura that will make people want to get closer to catch a whiff of this curiously cute fragrance. I guarantee it will put a smile on everyone's faces! I think lovers of D&G Light Blue or Moschino I Love Love would enjoy this fragrance but unique enough to appeal to all! AND the bottle is to die for!!

I can not find it anywhere.. I wonder if anyone knows what is Nanette's "Signature" like? A pink bottle? I can not see it here but I do like the composition: Moonstone Rose, White Peach, White Cranberry Juices, Magenta Nectar, Black Currant, Orange Jasmine, Persian Lime Juice, Velvet Violet, Amber and Indian Sandalwood.

I got this one from a friend. It is quite pleasant, although a little bit too sweet and very, very young, suitable for a teenager.
