Fumidus by Profumum Roma is a Oriental Woody fragrance for women and men. The fragrance features vetiver, birch and whiskey.
Definetely one of the best "Smokeys" you can get.
The description from Profumum says it all!
TRY IT!
This stuff is truly amazing. Love it or hate it, it's a scent that slaps you across the face, shoves you back against the wall, and DEMANDS that you pay it the respect it deserves.
I can't imagine ever wearing it out, but I regularly smell it and respect the bejeezus out of it. It's a really impressive scent. Kudos Profumum.
===== UPDATE =====
So after saying I couldn't imagine myself wearing it out, this morning I said "WTF!". Really enjoyed it. Overpowering when you put it on, it takes a bit to calm down. the base notes are superb though - the smokey tobacco-ish mixed with some sweetness, presumably out of the vetyver.
I might wear this again, though don't imagine I'll run out and buy a bottle...
I seriously don't understand all these people (here & elsewhere) complaining about this perfume being "just far too smokey". ~ I mean, (??) what the hell did you expect from a perfume that is named "FUMIDUS", I ask you ? (Which, by the way, if you too still haven't quite worked it out, actually translates as "smoked" or "smokey" in Latin). So how could you really have expected anything less ??
To deliberately choose to sample a perfume named "SMOKEY", and then to bitterly complain that it's simply too smokey is just ridiculous. ~ (I even read one review which stated that it was just unnecessary to add the "liquid smoke accord" to the perfume). I mean, whaaat ??? Are these people just thick ?? There are many unsmoked vetivers out there for you, go and sample one of those. If you come to "Fumidus" then you should expect nothing less than a heavily smoked vetiver. ~ Simple isn't it !?
Without the "smoke" it would just simply not be "Fumidus" ! It'd be something else entirely. Probably just yet another less interesting and straightforward vetiver scent.
Personally, I think it's exactly the scotch & thick birch tar note/accord which makes this fragrance what it is. It's also what lends it intrigue and sets it apart from other such vetiver scents.
Some vetivers are intrinsically "smokey" in character (i.e. the Javan variety. The Haitian one is much more "floral"). Here with "Fumidus" they have just taken that specific facet/quality of the root and run with it.
And trust me when I sample a perfume named "Fumidus" I do so hoping & expecting that it will be just that ~ gloriously smokey. - Which it certainly is, and in abundance ! ~ (Yay !)
~ Personally I luv it !
A massive, almost meaty, smoky note is nearly off-putting in the beginning few minutes of wearing this. Then the whisky makes its presence felt, but in a quite subtle way. The vetiver also sneaks in but in this case smells like pine with a tiny touch of citrus, which also becomes more pronounced after about half an hour. After an hour or so the whole caboodle becomes nicely blended and subsequently more nose-friendly.
I cannot for the life of me envisage a woman wearing this but I think it would be fantastic on a man and VERY different from the run of the mill men's fragrances in every way. I can't honestly say I dislike this; in fact I have admiration for a perfume house that can come up with this quite unique blend.
The notes list is promising the scent is definitely disappointing. Ok, there are three ways to approach this review for me:
1) Great perfume if you like to burn wet vetiver roots in the fireplace (translated: A LOT OF SMOKE) while drinking some Scotch and in the meantime you don't realize your place is going on fire.
2) great perfume if you want to smell like you've just been rescued from you mountain hut that has gone on fire.
3) great perfume if you like to set fire to the trashcan where you have wasted an old vetiver fragrance gone bad.
To me it simply smells horrible, unpleasant and definitely unbalanced on the smoky side. Sorry, I've to pass on this one.
Rating: 4/10
Arid beyond belief on my skin, which I was surprised to discover, since I love the look of the notes. On me, it smelled like a charred log.
I asked my fiance to test it on himself (since he regularly wears woody orientals) and it was even drier on him. Even though that note isn't listed, on him it smelled like a cedar chest, and not a cedar tree.
I will re-test it in cold weather.
