Just a FYI: the bottle pictured is the old Santalum. The current Santalum has a light golden colour, and I understand there has been some reformulation associated with the colour change as well. I'm reviewing the new Santalum and have never smelled the old version.

The fragrance opens on a gentle, clear woodsy note, a bit dry and leaning toward the masculine - though not so much that it should bother anyone who doesn't pay attention to gender designations in scent. Though not mentioned in the notes, I swear there's patchouli in this fragrance. The more it dries down, the more that sweet-earthy patchouli vibes enters the equation. There's a sort of rough, almost cedary edge to the whole which I like, it keeps the scent interesting.
I still prefer Tam Dao for my sandalwood fix, but this one is worth a try for lovers of quality woods.
