Jontue Fragrance Reviews

Some old-school perfumes smell timeless, but Jontue isn't one of them and that's just fine; instead, it's unapologetically and delightfully retro. It does start out a tad bitter, but just wait for the drydown... The benzoin comes off very vanillac, and it's in wonderful juxtaposition to the vetiver and oakmoss. Lasts all day on my skin but stays pretty close as long as you don't overdo it. A great little find for those days when I can't decide what else to wear... I somehow always manage to forget just how much I enjoy this springtimey scent.

I wore this in college and it was my favorite. You could get the powder as well as the perfume. I used the powder everyday and the perfume for special occasions.

The new formulation doesn't have the same appeal.

A fresh, green, almost masculine floral. I can see why it was marketed at young women back in the day; it has a sparkling innocence to it. The oakmoss is very evident but it's a very clean, herbaceous moss. Cool, dark pools of water in an old forest. A fresh, soapy, invigorating fragrance. A man could totally rock this nowadays, too.

This was the first perfume I ever owned. My mom gave it to me for Christmas when I was 11, much to everyone's chagrin. I remember feeling so grown up and elegant...until the first day I wore this fragrance to school. Everyone could smell it and everyone hated it lol. I remember not much about the composition, except for a lot of oakmoss and floral.

Nice, soft, safe....took a while to develop on me. Most definitely won't buy the reformulation again. Will look out for a vintage bottle, however.

I discovered a vintage bottle of Jontue Perfume Spray. I do not ever remember smelling this on anyone. This is love at first sniff. I am simply stunned by the quality Revlon poured into its 1970s beauties. This ranks right up there with Chanel and Guerlain.

This is a warm weather classic that is based on white florals that I generally avoid (tuberose!). Here it is blended with mimosa, chamomile and gardenia so well that it behaves perfectly with a soft rose and I get a little neroli. A nice dry sandalwood arrives early on, foggy oakmoss and vetiver waltz happily here. The juicy peach is done so well you can almost taste it. Throw in a splash of orange and this becomes a vacation in a bottle.

It has the same DNA as Charlie(it get such a bad rap after the bad reformulation, but hey what doesn't anymore?). Revlon had its own Guerlainade apparently.

Its ironic that so many writers mention its High School Girl appeal. This is a very mature and wealthy offering from a house that knew what it was doing. The price was affordable and it was marketed to all with the best ingredients. Jontue was from another time, indeed.

Like so many others, I also wore this in high school and as a young woman in my early twenties. It has the "sparkling" quality, not unlike Charlie, that was prevalent in so many frags of that era. I think it must be the yellow flowers in combination with the sandalwood. The result is very lush and sweet (NOT gourmand sweet!), and full bodied. The base notes come forward from the very beginning and meld with the mimosa, rose and hyacinth. There isn't a distinct change from top to bottom, perhaps the green notes come forward a little more after an hour or so. Basically, it retains it's blended quality for as long as it lasts, and on me it lasts a very long time.

It's somehow light and rich at the same time. The rose, mimosa, gardenia, ylang-ylang and tuberose are heavy and natural smelling, like walking through a southern garden after a rain. There's a bit of "earthiness" to it, like crushed leaves and potting soil, probably from the oakmoss.

Today, so many scents are based on white florals, citrus and fruit. The heavy hitting, old fashioned garden-like flowers get ignored. I for one, LOVE smelling like a garden! May not be everybody's thing, though. For example, I adore Demeter's Funeral Parlor, if that gives you any idea where my tastes lie. I find bouquet scents extremely soothing. Pure, unadulterated florals are hard to come by these days.

The balance of green notes, exceptionally smart choices in woody base notes and rich, rich flowers produce a one of a kind, ultra-fem scent that would be a unique frag for any age. You won't smell like anyone else, there just isn't anything being marketed today that compares with it. It's certainly not offensive, and it's not like so many classic fragrances that seem to annoy young women today because they smell OL (I can't bring myself to say those derogatory words; you all know what OL means!) No animalistic (civet), oriental spice, resins that the young reviewers hate on. I think this frag could experience a revival, if you are getting tired of the vanillas and the Britneys. Think pretty, flouncy, floral retro dresses, mad-men style. Jontue would be a perfect pairing!

This was a popular scent in the 70's when i was in high school. I remember wearing and liking it but I only vaguely remember the smell. I wore Jontue, Sweet Honesty and Charlie. Charlie has survived through the years in my perfume collection. I just might buy another bottle of Jontue, too!

First perfume aged maybe 11 or 12, a parental gift. I think, a good one. I have managed to scrounge an old original bottle whose cap i take off once a decade for purposes of reminiscence. 24 Faubourg reminds me strongly of this [common notes allegedly gardenia, ylang ylang, bergamot, patchouli], which is probably much of the reason I want it. Memorable and very distinctive.
We used to spend summers by the sea, so I got familiar with all the coastal scents. There is something seaweedy in Jontue that I have always enjoyed, a note I always cherish whenever it turns up in some perfume. I don't know what note or combination of notes comprises my 'seaweed in the sun' but I'd like to learn.

One Thing I Felt that needed to be said about Joutue, that Finally Revlon got it right about Balance, this fagerence is a perfect synphony of Ballance, it has some ingredience it, that if there was't this idea of ballance in creating the sent, It could have changed a wonderful, sweet, spicy, soft powdery floral sent into an abrasive stinky, unplesent experience. Navy is another wonderful classey soft oridental sent, that is also a perfect example of Ballance.

I'm not going to say Bad Things about Jountue, Infact It Holds Sweet, Special, Sentimental Memories For me, I find it, to be a Sweet Romantic Powdery Floral and Very indearing and Pleasent. I said I hate Oak Moss, which I attributed to some other colones, heavy with that ingredient that made me smell like a New Wowed Lawn, or an Alphalpha Hey Barn. Jontue didn't have that awful grassy stink, none of it. Jontue on me was mainly Floral, Top Notes with My Chemistry. Fist The Prominent nates were Gardenia and Spicey Carnation, Secondary notes were Mimos and and Lavendery Begamont, and The Base was Benzoin and Tastefully Conctrated Musk. Just a small touch of tastful tuberrose, no sharp screaming at me sents, but what ever I could smell, was well heard, but in a gentle voice, that was sweet soft, romantic, spicy, aluring and gentle. My husband purchased a Bottle of Jountue at a Drug Store, as a Suprise Gift for me in Santa Barbara California on our Honey Moon Just Prior to Our Wedding Day He fell in Love with the sent so Did I. On spcial Romatitic Occasions I still wear it for for him and for me too. I Love Jontue it reminds me of my Wonderful Husband and Romatic Times with Him and Reminds me of our Wedding Day.

This was my mother's scent. I believe it worked for her, but I was never a fan. At 30, I still believe it would be too mature on me. This one is STRONG, and not sweet in the slightest. Silage for days on me.

Jontue after reformulation smells much sharper, oakmoss is really strong, green, earthy... I remember Jontue as more floral, almost innocent. Actually, now smells to me more mature. In dry-down should be similar, loved to wear Jontue, it was scent of my youth, have special memories.
edit/after weeks it smells still divine, love the romantic dry-down

I had this as a teenager in the 70s because EVERYONE had it. Never even liked it. It had a startling acidic putrid scent to it, especially for the first 10 minutes. I only wore it because "everyone else did." If you didn't wear Jontue you wore "Charlie."

Adorable.
Dozens of creamy white flowers grown on a tender oakmoss.
I expected to find the populars "green notes", cause at the very begin it smell green and, that's true, a bit hairspray, but even hairspray has something of romantic, these days. A classic, maybe born vintage. A "modern" Apres l'Ondee. A time machine through that period between 70s to 80s.

I've got a vintage 10g atomiseur.

My review is for a vintage bottle of Jontue, which I think is from the 1970's. For reference, it's in a flattened round bottle with an indented oval in the centre, and "Jontue" in white handscript across the front, with tall silver cap. The juice is amber colored, and it is cologne concentration. I find this to be a mossy floral, with some soft powdery elements in the background, and a subtle musk in the base. Every once in a while, there is even a very mild soapiness that comes through ever so briefly. This not a chypre, not too green, not too floral. Rather, it is a balanced scent, incorporating all these elements. This smells quite complex, especially for a drugstore fragrance, and I am really enjoying the experience of wearing it.

When I purchased this blindly in the summer, I felt it was worth the risk because it was so cheap online. To my delight I really liked it and thought it was a real bargain. What ruined everything was a visit to the hairdresser a few weeks later. After haircut, I got plenty, plenty of hair spray and the smell was so like Jontue. Extremely floral and sweet. The annoying smell was in my nostrils throughout the evening. After that I have unfortunately not been able to use Jontue although I really tried. Let's see if I get over the feeling until next summer. It might be worth a few more attempts.......

The only thing that went wrong is that new Jontue is badly reformulated. Unfortunatelly I bought it also and as I remember how the old was smelling I can tell that this, doesn't worth at all. Such a shame...

Oops! What went wrong? Nothing in these super reviews, accords, or floral category led me to believe that this would be a tar and burnt rubber floral on me..... So even the most fool - proof choices can go awry with an overly independent chemistry! I'm SO happy the Walgreens salesperson allowed me to try before buying. Nice to know that they also have a great return policy for my next unforgettable accident!

EDIT

After a year of ( profound! ) perfume sniffing I've come back to smell Jontue once more. OH MY WORD. It has to be more than the weather change, though that may well have had something to do with this transformation. Now I finally know what everyone else is talking about!!!!!! I don't understand the about face I've made, but now this beauty is going on my want list. She is fresh and pretty ~ and utterly adorable. WHY did I not see her clearly before? Another reminder of my perfume motto to "try, try again"! :)

I got a huge compliment from a discriminating man today about my heavenly perfume. It was a Vinatge of this! The vintage seems to be the way to go. My grandmother wore this and smelled great so it reminds me of her. I guess when some people describe scent as being 'old lady,' they are afraid of aging or too conscious of being hip or maybe they didn't like their grandmothers. I adored mine and she had good taste. Maybe to match the book I bought when I received the compliment (about Lanvin), I should have been wearing Arpege. That's next on my list. My grandmother would have approved.

As a schoolgirl in 1978 Jontue was within my (limited) budget, so I tried it. I got that earthy aroma and something like cat pee. Ignorant of how perfume develops, I scrubbed it. However, I liked it on others enough to be intrigued all these years later. I ordered a bottle from Fragrancenet to take me on an olfactory trip to the past and I'm pleasantly surprised. After the initial burst of cat pee (does anyone else get that or is it just my weird chemistry?) Jontue softens into ylang-ylang and a gentle tuberose with wisps of sage, all buoyed on a bed of musk and oakmoss. Happy to say my maturing skin actually likes Jontue!

I used to wear Jontue around 1978 through 1981, and it smelled soooo lovely back then. Its a bright, beautiful floral; not a shy fragrance by any means. I bought another bottle about a year ago. It brings back memories of when I had my first job and very first apartment. My life back then was fun, simple, and absolutely the best of times! Isn't it interesting how fragrances have the ability to put you back in a certain place and time?

At this point in life, I probably don't rank this up there with my all time favorite fragrances only because I've kind of outgrown it. But I do hold this lovely gem in high esteem for not only being a sweet; endearing fragrance, but for sparking some very nice memories of days gone by.

You ever heard of the concept of gateway drug? Jontue was my friends' and my entrance into the world of perfume abuse. We typically sprayed ourselves half a dozen times from all angles. An hour later, we sprayed it again because It didnt last very long. This scent was our favorite. Fast forward to college. We used our jontue wearing skills to apply Obsession and poison. I laugh now, but can you imagine a car full of us? I would love to reaquire jontue just to see if it was truly nice. BTW, i blame all the Enjoli ( she can bring home the bacon...) and Charlie commercials for giving us the idea we needed to wear perfume like pros to be happenin' modern girls.

This is the only perfume containing oakmoss that doesn't bring me nausia and doesn't smell so awful on me.
For me this is a big plus.
From the notes I first pick up the yacinthes and the white flowers. It's a bit retro style, reminds me of spring in general, not that light for a floral perfume also.
I think it is more suitable for a mature woman and not for a girl. It's lovely!

I was able to wear this perfum again after 30 years! Well, it was a bit dissapointment because it isn't as I remember it. My new Jontoue is weak and I have the feeling that many accords are missing. It only gives me a faded memory of the old perfume. Many would think that "Could it be possible to remember so clearly a smell after all these years?" Yes, it is.... Does someone know if it had been reformulated?

This was the best perfume I have ever picked up in any drugstore. Whenever I ran out, I would buy it again and again. It's too bad that the purse size I loved is no more. They only have the big size in only one drugstore in my neighborhood for a lot of money, and one day, they may discontinue that considering today's economy and downsizing. I seldom wear perfume and I've been looking to find something to replace the irreplaceable Jontue. I tried Charlie, its sister perfume, but I'm not really all that crazy about Charlie that I would keep buying. I like Lady Stetson, and that scent works pretty well for me as of now. For a more modern scent, I go to Bath and Body Works and get Warm Vanilla Sugar, which is the best fragrance there. But there will never be another Jontue for me.

I remember when this came out that every girl wore it. I still can see the white horse in the ads saying Sensual but not too far from innocence. How could they go wrong with commercials like that ! It's not too bad but I still think of it as a seventies perfume. They started selling it dirt cheap at the drugstores and over saturated the market and then it started to disappear from the shelves.
It's too bad because it is a nice sweet fragrance and not expensive. I hope it is never discontinued and we see it still around like Emeraude and White Shoulders have stayed for decades. I might want to buy some for nostalgia someday .
Now you see it now and then at Christmas but I think everyone probably has an old bottle stuck in a drawer.
I know Jontue was around before 1976 as I remember it so vividly during 1972 and 1973.

When I spray it on, the mental conversation always goes, "Oh, that's nice...GAH! What the heck is that?" There's a salty/plastic note that rises right to the top and stays there. Jontue is a lovely floral, green confection of a scent and quite more complex than most 'mass market' fragrances. It was sold in parfum contentration in the 1970's and 80's but is sadly now discontinued in parfum form. A sweet flowery symphony of French florals including mimosa. hyacinth and rose, violet and jasmine opens the fragrance which morphs into a rich sandalwood base and ir=s just beautiful! This Revlon scent is unappreciated and deserves a revisit by women who wore it as teens, as its complexity is far more worthy of consideration in a floral green than some top designers'efforts and at a reasonable price too!
The bath powder is very nice too if you are fortunate enough to find it!

I got this as a birthday gift from my godmother when I was 15. Jontue smelled nice, I thought, and wore it three times. In every instance, I broke out in hives all over my body. Some other perfumes bring about an allergic reaction in me, but nothing like what happened with Jontue.
