ok i just got it recently, first smell wonderful, sprayed again, way too much maybe perfect if u use one spritz per day dry down is amazing worth the money will def wear on occasion def not for everyday indulgence or repeat purchase
Okay, I have been wearing this off and on over the last few days. I always am racking my brain to find similarities between scents. While perfumes can share a lot of the same notes they will never be identical. It came to me this morning that this perfume reminds me of Boudoir.... A lot. While I love Boudoir for a whole host of other reasons it has to applied carefully or it can be sharp. There are quite a few of the same shared notes and Oro works better as an everyday. It is lovely, warm and tasty. I know that sounds strange but that is how it is to me. The price is very reasonable and if you like Boudoir, you will really like this.
i seen at tjmaxx i like the bottle but the scent smells old and stale i wouldnt pay what tj's is aking but if it goes on clearance i would just for the bottle thats it!
I was so excited to try this. The notes sound wonderful. I love woody notes, and cinnamon and pepper. Found it at TJ Maxx at a good price, and the box and bottle are little works of art, too. The kitschy snake...its just that, kitschy. Doesn't bother me. I found it humorous. Anyway, I sprayed it on expecting a creamy woody spicy concoction, and upon initial sniff I was intrigued, but soon after that it became a VERRRRRY apricotty, (read: ROTTING apricots) and liquor-like scent. I happen to like apricots, and liquor, haha, but this......I was so disappointed. I tried to think of it as a unique, creative take on fruit and spice, but the more I smelled it (which was impossible NOT to as it stuck around like crazy after only a few sprays) the more it just smelled like rotting fruit in a trash bin, combined with a heavy dose of alcoholic cough syrup or something. Actually, now that I think about it, it also bears a resemblance to the scent of Kool-Aid powder. Did anyone else have this awful rotting fruit experience? Did I get a bad bottle? So sad...
Update... Can now buy it for a song,(Cheap) and I have bought another bottle 75ml....
Have learned to appreciate the difference between Opium YSL,(the price) as Oro has way more sweet limy citrus and is a more sparkling scent, but still similar.
Just apply more to the skin, make sure you do not knock the fragile, tall, slender bottle over and the perfume should last...lol...x
I've just picked up a 50ml bottle for £10 at Tkmaxx on a whim after reading reviews here (I'm blaming all your wonderful reviews for my rapidly diminishing shelf space!) So, first spray and it wasn't love, it's nice but a bit sparkling for my taste! Does that make sense? In the same way that Notorious has a big glittery opening - oro has quite a metallic wallop that's just not me. After first hour or so, lurking in the background is lovely cinnamon, wood, patchouli combo that really comes into it's own on the drydown. It's gorgeous, and smells much more than it's price. Very comforting, surprisingly sophiscated and well worth the wait.
Classic oriental sandalwood fragrance, slightly boozy, velvety. It smells like a rich, elegant evening out in silk stockings. Unfortunately, classic orientals always smell dated on me, so this one is a pass for me.
This fragrance is very spicy and intense but also very sweet. Loud and seductive.
This scent is so strong that gives me a headache... I can't wash it off even if I use a soap...this one is just not for me.
It's a wonderful scent, but unfortunately it does not last. Not even if I put it on three times during the day. So sad, love the smell.
I was wearing it out tonight and it was still going on strong after 3 hours until I came home and washed it off. This spicy scent goes really well with brown, cream and beige clothes.
Oh, my, very lovely and different spicy fragrance......it does have some similarities with Nu YSL, but Oro is spicier. Actually, I even smell something reminiscent of Kenzo Jungle Elephant. Beautiful bottle too....but the snake had to go right away. On my skin the sillage is great, 5 sprays and I can enjoy it for a few hours.
Overall, I am impressed with Cavalli fragrances....unique scents and lovely presentation.
Having looked up the nose behind it, no wonder I like ti so much.....one of my favourite Guerlains were created by the same person.
Initially there was something slightly off-putting to me about Oro, but because of all the positive and glowing reviews here, I decided I must give this one another opportunity to win me over. So glad I did. While I felt compelled to wash it off the first time, this time I just waited patiently and lo and behold, within 30 minutes or so that aspect that had put me off before somehow morphed into that dark and mysterious something or other that another reviewer described. It IS deliciously complex and is definitely growing on me.
Once I had finally negotiated the removal of the plastic gold snake (priceless!) which was preventing me from operating the nozzle to extract this divine sounding concoction, I was met with mild disappointment as the three conservative spritzes I applied to my heart-line fizzled and faded all too quickly. The watered down aroma I glimpsed before it vanished entirely held a great deal of promise.
Not to be deterred I proceeded to generously apply a further SIX spritzes to my upper body (rarely will I wear fragrance above my heart-line) and presto! Now we are talkin'!
Oro comes out of the bottle like a timid and shy NU by YSL which made me smile in recognition for some strange reason (I agree JazzBirdSinger). As I went about my morning, I noticed the most glorious apple-strudel-smothered-in-warm-thick-sticky-apricot-conserve aroma emanating from my person. I smelled delicious.
Wow, what a creeper you are Oro!
I am pleased I purchased a largish bottle as I literally have to marinate myself in Oro to achieve the desired intensity, but oh my, absolutely worth each and every one of those nine sprays.
the best blind purchase i ever made! absolutely incredible. there isn't one aspect of this perfume that i don't love. from start to finish, she keeps me interested. she's dark, she's sexy, she's complicated, mysterious and intriguing. Mistress Eva compares Oro to a Turkish harem and i have to completely agree. this perfume is so exotic and confident, it makes you feel like a seductive belly dancer. i too get incense from this gem, even though its not listed. a little incense is ALWAYS a good thing in my book, to evoke a little darkness and mystery about the wearer. the price tag is completely off for the goods contained in this bottle. will be wearing this for hot summer nights(aka right now) and with buttery soft leather jackets in the cooler months. timeless, season-less.
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE THIS ! IT IS WONDERFULLY SPICY AND SWEET . . . IT SMELLS SOOOOOOOOOOO GOOD!!
It lasts so much.....sweet and spicy. Bottle beautiful.
I have been testing Oro for a few days now. I must admit I was thoroughly prepared to dislike it. To my surprise, I am loving this scent! It's a very unique mix of fruits, florals, warm spices, and woods.
I won't go in to the individual notes as they have already been described very well by miZZpuRRfect! I will say that for a recent release, this is a very complex fragrance. Warm and sultry, it's oriental boldness is somehow softened by the creative use of fruits and flowers in the top and middle notes. I find the base warm and sexy, and I too get the impression of soft incense, though none is listed. Very subtle for an oriental spicey. A good daytime alternative to the heavy hitting orientals, such as my beloved Opium. For me, this will be a multi- seasonal, any time, any place fragrance. Definitely going on my list of favorites!
Oh, I think both the packaging and the bottle are perfect! Exotic, elegant, and unique, just like the perfume encased within.
Edited to add:
Ok, I took the bottle out of it's elegant box and placed it on my perfume tray, which is on my bedroom dresser. The bottle is well designed, but poorly executed. Looks cheaply made. I still like the contents!
This is too spicey for my liking, but I will say this for it, the scent is very exotic and it has great sillage and lasting power. I sprayed one spritz on my hand and I could smell this scent the next several hours stronger then when I spray 15 sprays of most of my other perfumes . I only wish I enjoyed the scent more. For me I find this perfume too heady and as I mentioned, too spicey.. not feminine enough for me. I picture this on more of an exotic strong woman with a good head on her shoulders. I'm more the shy girly type that enjoys the cotton candy and tween scents, even though I'm far from a teen. I'm saving this perfume to wear on nights I want to crawl out of my shell and be more sophisticated... it's an awesome perfume paired with a suit or some powerful looking outfit.. as someone else mentioned, prepare to be noticed.
This smelled quite old-fashioned to my nose. Old flowers, sandalwood and citrus, not so much fruity as slightly fermented. It has spiciness at its heart which rounds it out, somewhat similar to Aqaba in that. It doesn't speak to me otherwise.
Updated: I've tried this again... wow spicy woods underneath... this scent is really growing on me...
please correct me if i'm wrong---
and i don't want to be sacrilegious in the world of parfums--
but this really smells to me like ysl nu!
(very good thing)
I really like the top notes in this perfume. The opening smells a bit like sweet fruity liqueur on me. But unfortunately it dries down to a rather unimpressive, a bit too ordinary sugary smell.
I absolutely love it (as well as the rather suggestive bottle) -- it is one of my new signature fragrances. It is extremely sensual & warm, to me evoking images of a decadent Turkish harem. It is probably an evening scent, though I often wear it during the day as I am prone to overdress. If you like something exotic, bold & darkly sexy, you might look into this. I don't imagine those who prefer sugary, fruity or edible-smelling perfumes would care for this one at all.
The tall golden bottle and box are absolutely beautiful as is the fragrance inside. To me, it smells "Golden" The sharp cinnamon and creamy vanilla together are lovely. The vanilla takes the bite out of the cinnamon. The apple and pepper at the top are quite sharp and invigorating, but are soon mellowed by the amber and musk. The cedar in the middle notes is long lasting for me and I enjoy it well into the dry down. It is powerful and heady potion, so apply with a light touch. Then be prepared to enjoy each phase as the warmth develops with your own body chemistry. It is quite hard to find, so I snap it up every time I find it. I went without it for a few years and thought of it often. My newest bottle will go very quickly because I reach for it time and time again. Day or night. Any season. It is one of my all time favorites.
This is on special at TJ Max right now for 15.00 for 75 ml, 2.5 ounces. I smelled it. It does have a stronger note of cinnamon. But I think it just doesn't round off well. I didn't care for it. I think if you want something that smells expensive and oriental that you should go for Cinnabar, or something by Estee Lauder...It is spicy, but smells sort of cheap.
I'm shocked at this moment. I was in Milan, and they had this sale at the Douglas-store: 75 ml of Roberto Cavalli Oro for 25 euros. I remembered I've read somewhere that it's quite hard to find, so I tried it on a piece of paper... And it reminded me of a lot of cheesy old ladies with golden hoops, brown wrinkled skin, whiteblond hair, pink nails and an oversized cheetah-print tee! Mauboussin had the same effect on me by the way... So- I caught a little and forgot about it. But now I'm starting to doubt myself; why do so many adore this one? And 25 euros is really not that much... Oh well, at least I have sóme evidence: my mom did not like it either.
Maurice Roucel is one of my fave noses, because he does really rich and sexy scents, and almost unconventional ones!
cavalli oro is really not a shy perfume - it's sultry and sexy in a 'romantic' way, not nasty!
starts juicy with delicious apple and mandarin, cinnamon kicks in very exiting, the magnolia is creamy and soft and gives this woody-spicy oriental a very feminine touch in the heart.
soft patchouli, woody spicy cedar and quaiac wood are calming down the sweetness, but the juiciness of the top will still pop up sparkly from the background. heart settles well down to that wonderful and tempting oriental bottomnotes of sandalwood, amber, musk and a hint of vanilla. all notes are nice blendet to a very rich, honeylike composition, bold but comfortable to wear. a scent that make people remembering you because it's very attractive and distinguish, feminine and for good - not very popular.
this juice is shurely not offending but it's remarkable: sweet flowery oriental trails will surround you for some hours without having to reaply. put it on your hair too!
sillage very good, staying power very good.
the bottle is really cute, i like this feminine and elegant design and the plastic snake suits it very well without making it cheap-looking. well done cavalli! thumbs up!
btw. the pink one is delicious too! not at all to compare with this one but very pink in a elegant way, sweet and very distinguable. not girlish, but feminine and romantic. love both of them!
This is a sleeper -- and a keeper. I love the use of mandarin in the top -- a fruity vanilla oriental, a Mauice Roucel fragrance for practically no money; what could be wrong, besides the plastic snake?
Wore this perfume today and it was simply beautiful. Warm, exotic and sexy. Compliments galore from both men and woman. This is a keeper!
Would be a really lovely perfume if it lasted on the skin. Expensive in Australia and hard to find. Is exotic and very oriental, but tries to be like Opium YSL. Opium wins hands down and lasts forever on the skin. Oro does smell good, but I will not buy another one, I look at it and admire the bottle in my collecton.
I smelled this last night and it wasnt half bad... The only thing that deterred me was the heavy heaping of cinnamon... I just cant get w/ cinnamon in a fragrance!!! This is the very reason I didnt buy Queen of Hearts by QL...
Bought a big bottle at a Marshall for $15 and i could not let this pass. I plan to keep in the box because this weird and long bottle, a little wind can tip it and break it.The box reminds me of a Pharaoh's tomb. But the juice is strange and wonderful. The coriander make's it special Its Mystical, soothing and tempting I smell incense too I'm glad I bot this bottles It is a GEM!!!
The ultimate downfall of this perfume is the bottle!
The scent
The scent opens up being sweet and spicy with a lovely floral and a touch of powder. I like that the sweetness comes from the fruit rather than a sugary or honey type of sweetness. The blend of coriander, pepper, and cinnamon are done so that none particularly stand out but it brings the spicy warmth. I don't care for Iris in general because of the powdery note it brings but it's not overdone here. The magnolia adds brightness without being cloying or loud.
Next a unique patch/cedar note with a green element that harmonizes the perfume.
Then a warm deep wood/resin base cradles while the patch/cedar and floral fade out a bit, leaving a very unique smooth, deep, spicy and ambery-woods trail that lingers on and on.
The bottle
Pictures cannot accurately reflect the absolute cheap tackiness of it. Unfortunately, no exaggeration, I'm talking cheap like the mass produced ultra chintzy toys that you get 10 of in a package at the dollar store. In person it’s so obviously cheap looking that I won’t be displaying it with my collection because I’d be embarrassed for anyone to see it! Not only that, it's a stopper so it's a pita to even open the bottle because of that fact alone and then even more so because of the flimsy plastic coiled around where you need to grasp to get the top off. They could have used gold colored metal and it would have been more durable, easier to get off and look a lot classier.
It's an interesting and unique perfume, I like it BUT it's not compelling enough for me to get past the bottle. Such a shame that they'd ruin a decent perfume with such a poorly designed bottle/top
The cinnamon was quite dominant on me, and my chemistry cannot handle cinnamon, so the fragrance never opened up. I do like the base, though, warm, sweet and woody.
The advert says it all. All I can say is EROTIC. True definition of how an oriental perfume is without being cloying (provided you use it with a light hand, two spritzes are enough), powerful sillage, mature but not an old lady perfume, incense-like but does not remind you of a church (like Galliano does, God, I just couldn't bring myself to love that one!) I am 28 and have been in love with Oro for at least 3-4 years so it appeals to young women with a love for a classic, oriental scent. Roberto Cavalli is aggressive in its assertion of sexiness -like a panther ready to jump on its prey - and yet so irresistible. This perfume gives me an unbelievable sense of confidence, makes me feel like a man-magnet (lol). Definitely worth buying if you like to leave a trail of sexiness behind you, this perfume is NOT meant to go unnoticed. I used to have the original Roberto Cavalli (in the pink bottle) but it was stolen from me so this time I decided to amp it up and go for the Queen of Oriental perfumes: Roberto Cavalli Oro. Gold never smelled so good. :)
My first impression was of a fuzzy champagne, then seconds after a crescendo of fruity liqueur and incense. The fruity waves are more apricot and bergamot, but in a interesting way, it seems to sparkles through four or five minutes til calm down and develop in a delicious mix with the incense notes. But...when you are prepared to stay with the "heavy notes" of wood and spicy, sublt some fruity quintessense can be perceived again, well combined and softening the otherwise common oriental fragrance. The last notes are something like apple, cinnamon and the warmness of vanilla, amber and musk. Sweet and rare. Oro is not common, not invasive (for a spicy oriental, hat usually makes me sneeze). Beautiful flacon, a must have!
I had this perfume and I gave it away...
It was much too..."oily" or as someone said kind of liquier smell...
I like liquier but not really smell like kind of liquier...
Not my cap of tea...although I liked the smell but I just could not wear it as I found it just too heavy...not strong but heavy as kind of oil/liquier....
It is absolutely seductive! I can smell it and smell it and I enjoy it so much in the bottle! It reminds me some liquor. Just not sure if I will be able to enjoy it on myself... I should give it more time, I guess.
P.S. Couple months later I tried it on my skin - no, too stuffy and spicy, the alcohol resemblance is not appealing on the skin at all.
dura dias.......... es una fragancia lider y deliciosa....... muy madura y no apta para pasar desapercibida
Have heard a lot about this perfume.Just purchased a tester and cannot wait to try it.
This fragrance is an explosion of seduction. I feel it in the air like velvet waves. It is covering me like a gold dress and I feel me so radiant.
OH! amaizing! this leave ne without breath... its so strong and sexy! but its for girls-women with very strong personality!
Am I crazy?! This stuff is amazing, please disregard my last review. I tried this again on my skin today, and it is simply gorgeous; strong, sexy, exotic. An oriental spicy mixture to die for. This time I tried it I got fruit - apricot- and something like incense, which is the cinnamon, vanilla, amber, and musk dry down. I want a full bottle now!
This bottle is so beautiful, I wish I could enjoy the perfume held within it. :) It's definitely an oriental spicy, but the flowers in the top notes are very prominent, don't like it... I think it's the magnolia or orris root I could do without. However, I love the way it smells on my mother. It's a classic, for ladies and mature. Oh, and it's really strong and long lasting! I find it unique and memorable.
