Rocawear is the fashion brand of the famous hip hop star and producer Jay Z. Under this brand, Jay Z had already launched two fragrances - 9IX in 2008 and Rocawear X in 2009. The new clothing line and fragrance named Evolution are prepared for the season 2011.
Rocawear Evolution is described as rich and oriental masculine fragrance of oriental woody composition that radiates with sensual warmth and confidence. It opens with juicy aromas of mandarin, mango, rhubarb and rum. The heart is heady and spicy due to coffee, incense and nutmeg. The base notes are woods, amber, tonka bean and musk.
Rocawear Evolution is available as 50 ml Eau de Toilette with the additional deodorant stick.

Well its a decent scent not bad it has a sweet spicy smell to it my girl thinks its decent i got it because i liked 9ix so i tried it plus i got the set for $35 it was worth it but anyways its OK! check it out guys that like sweet fragrances should like this
Hate as a fragrance and hate it as an air freshener
I got this one for my son, and it has become his "go to" fragrance because of its versatility. He began wearing Evolution during his Masters internship, speaking before our State's legislature as an advocate for those in poverty. It is surprisingly appropriate for professional settings. Plus, the girlfriend really likes it too! (And she's particular.)
While incense and tonka are always present, the other notes ebb and flow. Mango and rhubarb are so well blended- creating more nuance than main attraction. I find this cologne to be very balanced, with just the right amount of sillage. Two thumbs up!
Nice fragrance! I think it smells like a toned down version of Thallium Black. It lasts probably about 4 hours on my skin.
This is a nice addition to my collection. The fruit accords in the top notes blend nicely with the rum to create an intoxicating aroma. The coffee, nutmeg, and incense in the heart comes into play fairly quickly - at this point, I can see the resemblance to JV. The base notes are pretty common for oriental woody fragrances but combined with the top and heart makes Evolution a surprisingly sexy fragrance. Evolution smells very similar to CK Encounter... but Evolution lasts much longer and the notes are more pronounced on my skin. I have gotten 8 hrs out of this, and I was quite surprised because this tends to wear close to the skin. For this to be so cheap, you get so much quality.
This is not a good fragrance for me. I bought it because the guy at the fragrance counter told me it was really nice. He gave me a sample on paper and it smelled ok. When I got home and sprayed it on me I did not like it. It did not last on my skin at all. So now I spray it on my pillows when I change the bed.
Got this today for twelve dollars today. Didn't know what what to expect, but what a pleasant surprise. Smooth, spicy,incense/coffee/nutmeg/clove... Reminds me of a more tame version of AMen ...in a good way. Great find!
Best men's perfume I've ever smelled. Lasts ages and doesn't change a lot.
The quality of this is far better than what its price would indicate. A very pleasant, clean and inoffensive fragrance. A great cheapy to have. Very versatile and I get up to 8 hours out of it, doesn't project a long way but anyone that gets in close proximity will smell a wonderful scent, which is the way I like it anyway. At the price its a must have, I paid $24 for it but would be happy to pay double, even triple that.
Good smell
Poor longevity and projection
Has a great whiskey not in the beginning and sweetens up to a coffee fragrance in the dry down. Really nice fragrance for the price and the best by far in the Rocawear line.
A Cologne That Truly Surprises The Buyer! The Smell And Scent That It Leaves On You Lasts Such A long Time That it Keeps Your Nose And Others Wanting More!
Loving the spicy rum and incense, but the concoction quickly reminds me of 'new car' smell. I don't understand why some male scents have to go in that direction (just as "candy = feminine"). It's a turn off.
Plastic, plastic, and more plastic. If you want to smell like plastic then Evolution by Rocawear fits the bill. It's def not a bad fragrance it's just that there are other offerings better in overall scent, projection, and longevity. I think if they had added alittle black currant and made the juice richer and more stronger this would be an excellent fragrance.
My experience with frag's is limited so all I will say is I like it a lot and I got it for 17 bucks at ross. Safe blind buy at that price.
likeable skin scent,it's sort of varvatos light.inexpensive and nice,a keeper.
My bottle of Rocawear Evolution came in the mail yesterday. This is what it smells like:
The opening smells like John Varvatos original and late drydown smells like Givenchy Play Intense. The middle stage smells familiar, but not exactly like anything else I've tried.
This is what it smells like if you've never tried the above mentioned fragrances:
In the opening there's some spicy rum with a touch of fruitiness supplied by what I guess is the mandarin and "rhubarb" notes. There's a decent amount of incense as well. As it moves to the mid, the incense picks up and a dark, fairly rich coffee note becomes very apparent. Something like cinnamon or nutmeg stays throughout the opening and middle stages and lends a spiciness to the frag, which works well with it. The middle stage is my favorite, where Evolution is at its darkest and in my opinion, most interesting. The dry down is a pleasant, standard, woody, vanilla-ish, tonka bean base, mixed with some of the coffee that has now settled down.
Overall, it's pretty good. The quality of the ingredients are obviously not on par with higher end designer and niche frags, but I wasn't expecting that going in. There is definitely a marked synthetic quality to the frag, but it's enjoyable nevertheless. Evolution's quality is greatest at its middle, and worst toward its end. If you are a fan of drugstore or department store fragrances, the quality of Evolution will not disappoint, and its smell and development are fairly unique and interesting. So in that sense, it's good.
Projection is only moderate, which I don't mind for this type of fragrance, and longevity is around 5 hours.
Considering the price (about $35 for a 100ml bottle), this is a good choice. It's easy to wear and will work well in the fall and winter. If you don't have anything like this (a coffee/rummy/incense frag) I'd recommend it.
quality: 6/10

You can try it in Carson's.
I really want to try this one, but I'm not sure where it's available. My local Macy's doesn't carry it in their stores, and I don't do blind buys because I've always ended up wasting money on a cologne that sounded good, but didn't turn out well for me. Does anyone have any store suggestions?
I'm much wondering how this smell
Bleh! It's alright, but nothing amazing. It kind of reminds me of a weaker John Varvatos.
6/10
Not a bad scent..... Just a little too sweet for me. The sweetness dies down after about an hour but it does still linger. I think it would be a nice evening scent in the fall.
Knows what he wnats and knows how to get it. Third times a charm and this is the third.
What a surprise. I wanted a man's fragrance in my perfume wardrobe. The fragrance I wanted to try was sold out, so I bought this one blind based solely on the inital spray. Not only is it gorgeous and old world, but a celebrity scent as well. Despite my previous rant of the lack of quality of some of the celebrity scents, I was completely bowled over by this. Now I have an evocative male fragrance that I am really proud to wear and a new respect for celebrity scents, what more could a girl want!
On further research I see this was probably made in collaboration with Elizabeth Arden and th IFF - an endorsement of its quality
Smooth and quite balanced. I agree with the positives, but a let down when it comes to longevity. As such, not really worth it. These are my initial impressions.
Update: longevity is so-so. Definitely sticks close to the skin after the initial blast and one can catch a whiff after 5-6 hours. But it does smell quite good. Knowing what I know now, I would have skipped this purchase.
Oh my goodness! This fragrance is really sexy. I'm surprised to discover that Rocawear is a celebrity brand owned by Jay-Z, and even more surprised that Trey Songz is the face of Evolution.
These artists aren't who I usually listen to or follow, however the guy I'm seeing loves their music and has subjected me to quite a few of their songs. He has also introduced me to quite a few sweet, ambery masculines during the course of our relationship.
He's going to love me when I buy Evolution for him. Looks like Valentine's Day is going to smell a lot like Evolution by Rocawear.
This fragrance is sweet, there's no doubt about it. Evolution opens with richly flavoured rum, sugary rhubarb and a subtle, creamy hint of coffee. The heart is much smoother and richer with smoky amber and tonka bean, providing a slightly gourmand quality.
The drydown becomes increasingly more ambery and incensey, settling only slightly and remaining rather thick and heavy on the skin. The longevity in this case is incredibly lasting, even stronger on fabric.
I highly recommend Rocawear Evolution. Its amazing quality had fooled me into thinking that this was more than a celebrity brand.
I couldn't be more pleased by the fact that a celebrity cologne actually had depth and staying power to it. Evolution, as its name suggests, is a more grown-up follow up to 9IX, the first cologne released by Jay. In fact, it's pretty obvious that 9IX was used as a jump-off point. While still carrying a youthful swagger to it, Evolution has a more sophisticated base composition and is more "romantic." But, no worries b/c it's still suitable for other occasions and doesn't trigger an automatic "this guy wants to be more than friends" response. This cologne really is whatever you want it to be. The notes are pretty straight forward and require no guess work, but that doesn't mean that they aren't bold. The triumvirate of rhubarb, mango, and rum immediately establish evolution as lively and mysterious at the same time with incense deepening the darkness in the background. After the dry down, Evolution becomes an inviting mix of warm and spicy notes. The mid notes should include rum and rhubarb since they seem to stay well into the dry-down. Since 9IX's base notes gave off the faint smell of trash (I kid you not), the base of this one was worrisome. However, Evolution finishes with a mild, but intoxicating mix of amber, woods, tonka bean, and musk. Bold indeed. Longevity and sillage are great and make Evolution an incredible celebrity fragrance, through and through. Now...if Jay would only help Bey out with her line.
A nice addition to Rocawear, and it is possibly the best one. This fragrance begins a bit boozy with whiskey-like spiced rum (Captain Morgan?!) but I don't get any particular fruit here nor rhubarb. Later it dries down into powdery/incensey woody scent with artificially sweet oriental aspect of tonka bean and amber. I don't think I get any coffee accord either, and it's okay. It's strong enough. I find it quite mature and grown-up but it is also suitable for any age. It's not something I would wear in high school (under 18 should not be wearing boozy scent!!!) but definitely in college and so on.
Slightly thick, almost sickly, strong thanks to rum, rhubarb and incense. 3 very thick notes you won't see used often in the same bottle.
A wearable, man's fragrance that I think would be a very platonically attractive smell as well as romantic. This is the kind of scent that you're not too impressed with at first but the more you think about it the more it grows on you, much like Police Wings.
I can see mlyself asking for this for christmas.
Youthful smell more suited to 20-something.
WOW!!! This is a sleeper, I never would have imagined that this would smell as good as it does. I went to the mall to get the new John Varvatos and I ended leaving with this instead and I'm very happy I did. Longevity and sillage are great and this was well recieved by everyone I let sample. This is a winner for me, many will pass or refuse to like it because its Rocawear but if you have a open mind give it a shot and you just might like it.
This colonge smells pretty nice but you dont actually smell all those sick wit it notes they say is in the bottle.Mango NO,Rum NO, plus it doesnt last. Its r.o.c. so I bought it.LAME
Purchased a little over a week ago, and it is something else fine! Did NOT like the other Rocawear offerings even one little bit, but tried this b/c I sprayed it on my wrists at Belk and the development was amazing. Here's the way it went down for this writer (it may be different for you, since everyone has a signature skin chemistry):
TOP NOTES are fresh citrus and just a tad spicy-sweet and provide an immediate mental/emotional "uplift".
MIDDLE NOTES are mildly spicy, amazing, and unfold naturally from the top notes. These heart notes are, for the most part, the best part of the fragrance. The coffee is subtle yet "there" and really adds a special uniqueness to this juice.
BASE NOTES were the ones I was most concerned about, because musk tends to get rancid on my skin. No problem w/this musk! It's sweet and mild and not prominent at all. The Tonka bean and amber are smooth and relaxing and both notes mix very well and last for quite awhile.
Projection is obvious yet not overpowering to others, and you will not be aware of what a great aroma this stuff offers to those around you. Comments from others -- both genders -- have been totally positive.
As for me, I love to spray in on my chest, wrists, and neck and just inhale. It's amongst the top 4 or 5 I own, and believe me, I own a lot -- including some Creed and Bond #9 fragrances. I would pit this one against any fragrance I have in my collection.
My recommendation: BUY IT! YOU'LL LOVE IT. 5 + rating!
The notes sound so promising for this one! Mango, Rum, Incense and Coffee! With musk and amber in the base with some tonka! But as with 9 out of 10 designers it may be misleading.
