Eau de Campagne is a breath of fresh air, fresh wind carrying scents of forests and meadows, giving its visitor energy and cheerful mood. The composition includes: bergamot, lemon, galbanum, tomato leaves, jasmine, lily of the valley, pelargonium, musk, patchouli, vetiver, oakmoss, plum and basil. It was created in 1974, for men and women. The creator is famous Jean-Claude Ellena.
Eau de Campagne’s journey is a brief one, but certainly quite eventful. The opening is bold, and nothing short of fascinating. It feels wild, green and contains the chlorophyll from a thousand roughly torn nettle stems. There is a suggestion of citrus in the opening, but it is clearly not meant to have much of a presence. This is a brief phase, and Campagne quickly dries into something dry and herbal, with a diminished green undercurrent. Drying down, it freshens and probably reaches its peak of pleasure giving qualities. It is relatively short-lived, expensive, but different enough to warrant the outlay.
In contrast to the views expressed below, I don't get much out of this fragrance. Admittedly, it's quite spicey, but apart from that it's one of those generic, say nothing fragrances that are probably made for people who are afraid of being caught wearing fragrance. In addition, I wouldn't recommend it to women, so why is it declared unisex?
The big green and extra-refreshing notes lasts only for first one minute. Then - lemon tea, quite calm and usual...
A fresh floral bath in a woods in a spring in Cambride, UK... Understated LUXURY !!
This is JC Ellenà how I like him. Appearantly simple yet very complex. An incredibly compelling bitter green composition that opens with a burst of sharp bergamot and assorted herbaceous / leafy notes. An invigorating blend made out of tomato leafs, basil, and an extra-bitter geranium note. A perfect unisex fragrance that you will surely dig if you like Cristelle, Grey Flannel or The Unicorn Spell. Among the best in its genre.
Rating: 8.5/10
This was given to me by someone who didn't want it anymore. I think it's too green, too sharp, too much grass and moss. It's meant to be an unisex scent and so far I did not like any unisex scents. I wouldn't want this scent on a man either anyway.
This is very green, sharp, sparkling, bitter, vegetal, leafy, grassy and dry. Starts a bit like an old-fashioned eau de cologne, but quickly turns into sophisticated green smell. It works for me as a perfect summer scent. Also I use it often when I want to clear my nose from any sweet, chemical or cloying perfume. It projects well but doesn't hold for a long time (approx 4h). Excellent quality of the whole line i.e. soap, shower gel etc. Quite expensive. 9/10
Eau de Campagne (EDT)
You Can really smell a walk-through the French countryside in this unisex slightly powdery-like, quite classy, but refreshing and lively EDT.
Wonderful herbal-green with jubilant notes of bergamot, lemon and plumb it adequately compensated with wood, resins and amber, excellent selection of natural herbs (characteristic of Sisley, which in aroma of countryside feel particularly good). It develops quickly and comfortably into the skin.
Very good length on skin and good sillage for an EDT!
- Benefits for lovers of luxury personal care products: a line of creams and bath is a comprehensive one and full available. A family relaxing green.
On my first trip to Hawaii, I brought along and wore this scent for its ethereal, sparkling personality. It was perfect to wear in the warm weather! Passersby would inhale me as I went shopping!
I can't agree more, eau de campaigne is the most greenest fragrance in the worl! It remains me a bit Private collection of EL, but EdC is unisex.
i hate generally green scents but this one has something woody and profound that i love it is some green notes from a garden by summer i adore it, cause generally i dont like green light notes, this one seems like hot tropical or sub tropical climates greens or mediterranean trees like cypress saule etc i want this !
i agree with RobbieX, Eau de Campagne is one of the greenest fragrances in the world. So it's a NO for me. Oh guys I wonder why? why? why? people want to smell this much green.
In the 1970's I used to work part-time in a greenhouse picking tomatoes that were ripe. This fragrance takes me back to those times. This is a very green, herby fragrance, but mostly for me it has a strong tomato leaf note that dominates. Very pleasant scent that is unisex and one of the greenest frags in the world
I tried it in the shop, just a few drops, really very little, almost couldn't smell it - afraid I might not like it and would have to go through a lot of trouble washing it off later on...
Then, after an hour or so, I was wondering which bright, lovely and clean scent it was that I got a whiff of every now and then.....
It was Eau de Campagne!
Finally a green scent without any tea and without the citrus. Fortunately I didn't get the lemon that's in it.
I guess it must be bergamot that helps me to like a green scent...This one really has that fresh 'just out of the shower'-smell that I do like...I might even like it better then Estee from Estee Lauder.
It's on my want-list.
Rolling in clover. The greenest scent I have ever experienced. I do not get any of the floral notes at all. I like it but smells masculine on me. I would probably prefer to smell it on a man or someone with different chemistry to me.
When I first smelled this I loved it. Yes it does smell of the countryside and herbs. It is also a fresh, green smell. However, I detected no sweetness or any notes that would give a hint of sensuality. After a while, I found it totally sexless and emotionless. I would cetainly recommend it if you like that contryside smell. I enjoyed it for a short while and then gave it to a colleague who loved it.
If anyone told me you can get a fragrance cloer to a field than this, I would shake my head in disbelief.
Because Eau de Campagne is the essence of a countryside and all the positive connections with it one can get. If you have ever had a chance to make a picnic on a freshly cut grass, surrounded by a wonderful greenery of herbs and trees, and from a distance admired wonderful, full appled ripening apples, and felt a fresh, warm breeze on your cheeks, thats Eau de Campagne there for you. It combines freshness of the grass with the hint of hay, and it is such a positive, cheerful, yet mature fragrance. Countryside in an elegant version.
Few summers ago I went to meadows placed on high hills surrounding the city where I live. My friends took their three horses and two dogs along with us. We slept in old barn filled with hay, drink water from creek passing near by and cooked our meals on fire in sunset. During day we were cutting grass and collecting hay for upcoming winter.
There is a certain smell I remember from that days. Freshly cut grass, the crispness and greenness of it. I layed sometimes awake in the barn looking through opened window out into still, fresh summer night. Air was consisted from grass, wild flowers and water drops. Dogs were barking out to the unknown. We stayed there for three weeks.
Eau de Campagne is marvelous presentation of fresh and untouched nature. Where the wilderness and peace are one, and you can sit still for hours starring out to the unknown.
For me it's those kind of scent that you enjoy to sniff but not necessary you want to wear. It's rather smell of meadow or clearing in wild forrest than smell of tidy garden. When i smell Campagne i imagine mix of grass, flowers, all kind of weeds, trees and oakmoss.
It's perfume in Terre d'Hermes style (or rather i should say that Td'H is in Campagne style). It's unspoiled nature. Campagne is mix of weeds and forrest and Td'H is mix of soil and woods.
Perfect, rought hand of Jean Claude Ellena.
i spent some time to love this one because im not really green fragrances, but this one has something very woody and it smeells really the campagne, lands and gardens i love it, but it is not a sweet perfume, it is bitter and has something like when you scrash green it feels really nature, very chypré , it is not a fragrance for shy pepople, it is strong and not for the well thinking who want to be well accepted because everybody smells it like something bizare on me, just a few people likes it
I was hoping to like this one, since I heard so many good things about it. Unfortunatly it showed to be not for me at all.
It become really sharp, brisk and at the same time murky sweet almost with somekind of moldy smell. I don´t know what it depens on, but I now and then have troubble with some kind of green and chypre perfumes. This one is definitly in that chategory.
So I washed it of. A while later I let my husband try it, but I didn´t think it suited him either. On him it wasn´t harsh or brisk, rather quite feiminin and he asked if it was a ladies perfume?
So my advice is to try before you buy. I guess that Eau Campagne can be beautiful on the right person with the right skin chemistry. Not for me tough.
I am enjoying my sample of this fragrance. This is a great scent to wear when traveling on an airline. It stays close to your skin.
One of Jean-Claude Ellena's early creations. Simple and elegant. Great scent with vegetable accords with hints of citrus notes. This will be added to my collection since I am a big fan of JCE.
Sisley Eau de Campagne reminds me of my granpa-he had shaving foam, you know the one you make yourself with a special short brush-that smelled EXACTLY like this frag. When I tested it in one shop I mentioned that "foam-connection" to the salesperson, and she said the same-smells like homemade old-fashioned shaving foam:))))
not sweet, strict but nice,comfy-leisure, precise smell
I can imagine Sean Connory wearing this one in one of the old Bondiana movies, ohhh or may be even some aristocratic villians in the 007 saga could work it:)
as you may have noticed I think of Eau de Campagne as of male fragrance.
I like it, I wouldn't mind it on a man, but I wouldn't wear it myself.
This is a compelling fragrance, without any sweetness. While others have used tomato leaves with great effect, Sisley makes them the centerpiece and star of this fragrance. This goes on herbaceous and remains so, for hours. However, it is not a linear fragrance. The oakmoss becomes more pronounced as the hours go by. If I were completely honest I would have to confess to liking it better at the beginning than at the end. On me it took on a quality that was reminiscent of mushrooms or cheese about two hours in. Still, if you want a very green fragrance with staying power, you want to try this one.
This composition, as befits for a one signed by prince's d'Ornano family, is really aristocratic - both elegant and nonchalant, a bit superior, at once full of "relax" and sense of humour.
It's name, "water for the country", speaks well about it's vegetable, close-to-nature character.
It should be close for everyone who played in the old, bushy garden back in childhood.
Although Eau de Campagne seems to be suitable for picnics in the country or visiting friends in their suburban mansions on the weekends, it is very universal. One can wear it during the day or evening, but sure it's too frivolous and lambent for a classic suit or dress.
It matches an elegant sporty style well.
I think this fragrance is ment for people that respect sophisticated, quasi-cavalier style and have an enormous sense of humour. For the real individualists.
It smells like raw green grass, without any sweet or sensual addition. If you want to feel like a bunch of herbs, almost medicinal, get this.. LOL
Could it be more "campagne"? Impossible.
This is completely green! It's a wonderful fragance if what you want is to smell the countryside, no matter where you are. It's hay, grass, fruit trees, even stables and herd, indeed!
I can't imagine anything more green than it. I wish I could feel comfortable wearing it (it must be quite relaxing), but I still feel it's too much rural for me for the moment.
Now see I thought this felt a little bit more made for a man then a woman.
It's quite pleasant, but does have a 1970's men's aftershave smell to it, makes me remember the way my dad smelled, kind of like Old Spice does.
It does seem quite good to wear for the Holiday season. If I felt like wearing something retro, this would be it.
Alredy in this smell Ellena has showed that he knows to paint landscape note aromatic. We have here summer in the village - juicy smells grassland, forest flowers, young fruits. Beautiful, noble, green, unisex smell.
i had high expectations for this one based mostly on the notes...tomato leaf, basil and vetiver namely. i have been looking for a scent for my hubby and these are all notes he likes...unfortunately he does not like this fragrance, once again telling me that i had put a woman's perfume on him. sigh. all in all a very nice scent, i put it on myself as well and it is a beautiful blend, apparently not for my man....i would suggest this for a younger man, perhaps someone 'metrosexual'? my quest continues.
Green, sharp, refined and cheerful! A very beautiful scent, with tomato leaves, citrus sweetness and very comforting base notes.
