This fragrance includes green notes of fig leaves, fig fruit and fig tree.
Main Notes: Green fig, vanilla, cedar, patchouli, tonka, musk. Fig Tree was launched in 2011. The nose behind this fragrance is Laurie Erickson.
The initial note is almost off-putting, with the fig notes almost overshadowed by tonka and vanilla, but on my skin it only took half an hour or so for the whole thing to mellow out. In the "middle" of this the vanilla is still very apparent. I prefer my fig notes to be unadulterated, as in Carthusia Io and Diptyque Philosykos, and as I already own these two I would not buy a bottle of Sonoma's offering. However, when I run out of both of those I would not mind having this one.
I really appreciate the obvious love that Laurie Erickson puts into her scents, and I have never found a range of perfumes that last on my skin as long as these do.
Before I tested Sonoma Scent Studio's Fig Tree, I was expecting something soft and a little fruity.
However, sweet, or soft do not describe the opening to this scent at all.
Fig Tree opens with a very green note which borders on sharp, and is almost medicinal. At that point, I was convinced that this is not a fragrance for me.
However, after around 1-2 hours, I was very pleasantly surprised.
As it dries down, the fragrance transforms from being harsh and green to being softer, with the vanilla coming out to play and whisps of the tonka also breezing through.
If you love woody, non sweet fig scents then you might enjoy this, but it's really in the dry down that the beauty of this fragrance really shows.
It's not my favorite from this house, mostly because of the opening, but it makes up for it with a really heavenly dry down.
