Tabac Aurea has an enticing golden amber drydown and a pipe tobacco note that is gentle enough to be enjoyed by women as well as men. It's smooth and softly gourmand, with notes of amber, woods, spices, tobacco, leather, tonka, labdanum, patchouli, and vanilla. The amber accord combines earthy, dry notes with some sweet notes and subtle fruity notes to create a beautiful, woodsy, golden aura.

Perfumer's Comments: This scent takes a little time to warm up on your skin; it opens with leather and earthy notes but the tobacco gradually blooms over the first 30 minutes and then lasts throughout the drydown. When I first sniffed the rich, sweet scent of blond tobacco absolute years ago, I was very surprised that I loved the smell of it given that I've never smoked or been around pipe tobacco. Blond tabac absolute smells like pipe tobacco but is complex with nuances of hay, moss, and woods. The nicotine is removed from tabac absolute during the production process.

Fragrance Notes: Cedar, sandalwood, tobacco, leather, vetiver, patchouli, clove, labdanum absolute, tonka bean, amber, vanilla, musk. Released March 26, 2009. Nos je Laurie Erickson.

Tabac Aurea Fragrance Reviews

Despite being an ardent fan of many Sonoma Scent Studios fragrances, when I first sampled Tabac Aurea several months ago, I really didn't care for the fragrance at all. I found it too harsh and too "big" for me to wear.

But, I'm so glad that I decided to test it again recently, because it has become a real new love.

TA is a thick and luscious tobacco fragrance. It really does smell like pipe tobacco, but with hints of leather and amber accentuating the beauty of this note sweet tobacco.

There is an underlying syrupiness to this scent also that I have absolutely fallen in love with. It reminds me of opening a box of sticky honeyed dates.

I can happily say that this is now one of my favorite tobacco based perfumes.

Woody incense mixes with the fragrances of frankincense and myrrh oil when I put this on my skin. It's lovely at first, but dries down to a cloying and sharp scent that grates on my nerves and gets up my nose. Perhaps it's just too strong for me. Obviously it works well on some. There are other SSS scents that work muuuuch better on me, and I'll stick to those.

This is to written or sent to Laurie. Laurie this Tabac Aurea is simply amazing. What I was looking for in a tabacco fragrance was one that smelled like a black and mild cig after it was smoked or a pipe smell that was smoked. The smoke smell in the air, but it really does not have that kind of smell but it stills smells incredible. I have had it on for about an hour and love, love, love it to death, but I do not know about the projection and longeivity yet. I have ordered a small decant of the tom ford tabacco version to see which one I like best.I will probably like them both, but this stuff is great and daring. When I first srayed this the first 10 seconds or so it smelled just like Gucci Pour Homme. The incense version of pour homme, but later and still about an hour later it smells so very much like Blvgari Black, but this stuff smells so much better. What I am going to do is use alt innsbruke after shave and layer one spray of this with it because two or three sprays of this stuff would take out any living creature in a 25,000 mile radius it is that concentrated. Also this is a 45 degree or colder scent in ones opinion.

excellent work of art Laurie.

Sonoma Scent Studio TABAC AUREA is primarily a pipe tobacco perfume, with a touch of leather and wood thrown into the mix. I find this composition fairly masculine and would rather smell it on a bearer of a Y chromosome than on myself. I have no objection, in principle, to smelling like a pipe tobacco store complete with mahogany and cherry wood shelving and leather armchairs, but I don't really have any desire to smell like one, either.

TABAC AUREA is certainly a nice blend, similar in some ways to Tom Ford TOBACCO VANILLE, but quite a bit less sweet. There is apparently tonka in TABAC AUREA, but it is very low key, as are the patchouli and the amber to my nose. The SSS beefy burnt cedar note is present here, but fortunately it's not a focus!

I just got two 5ml sprays of Tabac Aurea from SSS and wore it for the 1st time about 3 hours ago. This is my first niche fragrance purchase. Sadly I think all these years of designer fragrances have messed my nose up!!I am not getting any pipe tobacco people! None at all.I am getting a lot of sandalwood and amber like notes? I am from India and this reminds me of home spices...its not conventionally masculine (I'm a 35 year old male). Its quite sharp for my liking but I'm hoping it'll grow on me over time....the best fragrances usually do that. I also have test sprays of Winter Woods, Amber Noir, Sienna Musk, Wood Violet and Incense Pure. The scary thing is that Tabac Aurea seemed like the most "accessible" of the lot...so I am worried.
05/09/11-just wanted to update my review after using Tabac Aurea for 7days on the trot. The really good frags grown on you! I only got the Tobacco note after about 6days! Its not the cherry/vanilla tobacco I was hoping for but still pipe tobacco. Its very rich and unique. I use this for nights out but sadly no compliments yet. My main gripe with this frag is the strong sandalwood note.

WOW......If you like tobacco scents, then try this one.
It is a pure pipe tobacco scent. Imagine opening a fresh tin of pipe tobacco, and taking a big whiff of the tobacco......thats what you get with this.

The first 10 minutes is over powering, and you think "holy crap, what have I done". Wait for the dry down.

This scent is not for the young night cluber. It is better suited to the older crowd.
Great for a cold winters day.

Laurie, I tip my hat to you.....Well done!!!

I'm naming you calm power. You can imagine that perfume worn by a gentleman of the past time who is wearing leather gloves and smoking strong tobacco or maybe imagine parties at old wooden houses where cigarettes and wine are served luxuriant.

First of all, Sonoma Scent Studios delivers the most detailed and spot on descriptions of their scents of any house I have seen.

Second, like Kterhark, I've been cautious with leathers (too harsh) and tonkas (too vanillic) and tobaccos (too literally pipe-ish).

Tabac Aurea was a gorgeous surprise.

For me it unfolded like this: first, lots of tonka and spice. I mean tonka as it should be: creamy, full-bodied and teetering on the edge of sweet without toppling over.

Phase two arrives quickly: a gentle amber accord under the smoothest , slightly sweet tobacco and the gentlest leather.

The final and lasting stage comprises all of the notes that first sang solos or duets, now in warm, balanced harmony.

Just beautiful.

Let me start by saying I don't like leather, I don't like tonka, and I really don't like tobacco. So out of ten samples from this line I saved this one for dead last, and only got it out of curiousity.

I sampled it today and quickly forgot about it due to a high stress deadline. All afternoon I've been wondering where that delightful smell was coming from.

I'm still having a hard time believing that delightful smell was coming myself. Really? I like a tobacco/leather scent? How did that happen, and why am I planning on buying this?

I feel like a little kid sitting at the table saying 'Wow, this is dang good creamed spinach!'

Out of curiousity you should try this one. Seriously. Unless you really, really don't like creamed spinach.

When someone on another site described this as their favorite tobacco scent, I was skeptical—even though I'd already had the pleasure of sampling some of Laurie Erickson's other absolutely stunning perfumes. After receiving a bunch of samples today, I tried this first and was completely bowled over.

I don't have much experience with tobacco-themed scents—just the rough edges of Tabac Blond (in EDT). However, I no longer regret that I am unlikely to be able to afford the Caron urn scent any time soon. Although I still plan to sample it when I am in Paris this coming May, I plan to buy a bottle of Tabac Aurea soon.

This has only been on my skin for an hour, but already I am hooked.

I thought this wouldn't work for me because of the patchouli, and although it did bother me in the beginning, I quickly forgot about my dislike. This is simply gorgeous! I don't think I've ever smelled a better tobacco scent (and I'm extremely picky:-). The drydown is simply heaven as the golden brown tobacco leaves mingle with the clove and something that smells like a drop of honey. Silly as it may sound, it's radiant.

I can hardly manage words for this one. I hadn't sought it out on my own, since it sounded too masculine for my very-girly taste, but a friend sent me a sample, and I tried it on a golden autumn afternoon.

Tabac Aurea is gorgeous, autumn in a bottle. I must admit that I'm utterly unable to be objective about the scent, because it reminds me so greatly of an old boyfriend. Pipe tobacco, the soft leather of a worn bomber jacket, spice, a patch of woods with moss and earth and grass underfoot, the smell of clean male skin... excuse me, I'm a little dizzy here. Whew.

Although the classic Tabac Blond seems to have been a starting point for this scent, I perceive it as being both very masculine and absolutely something I'd wear. It is strikingly balanced between earthy and sweet, both crisp and smooth like the best apples for eating, like the golden days of fall.
