Orange Star is the ninth fragrance by Andy Tauer, created on the contrast of fragile orange blossom and think amber notes.
Fresh mandarins and clementines open the composition, orange blossom and shiny lemongrass are in the heart. The oriental base are combined of ambergris, tonka beans and soft vanilla. 09 Orange Star was launched in 2010.
If warmth had a smell it would smell like Orange Star...citrus tends to smell like household cleaner on my skin but there is none of that here. Very subtle spices, amber and an extremely long lasting clean dry down- a really harmonious blend with no jarring notes on my skin. Absolutely incredible on a man! Distinct and a must try
Interesting composition, at the first sense of smell is just an annoying citrus mixture, but if I take a look into the deep of the fragrance, just worth to wait for the outcome..
Orange Star is a true oriental, deep, bold and intoxicating,an amazing marriage of the notes. As the opening is very forceful, the base is very warm and calm.
After the edgy and harsh opening, the strong citrus settles down into a soft,medicin-like,smokey- powdery base. Amber paired with bitter patchuli, powdery violet, a touch of leather, orange blossom, zest of clementine and a hint of vanilla. This kind of combination reminds me of frankincense.
This scent has a little gothic feeling for me,well done, complex oriental. On me it turns very masculine, but I recommend to try it because it's a pretty good experience of the oriental perfum's evolution.:)This perfume perfectly shows to you the typical "behavior" of orientals,- from the opening, through the heigh until the last act.
If I have to associate which fragrances reminds me of Orange Star, I rather say it's mergers of Annick Goutal's Encens Flamboyant and Amouage Homage.Definitely..:)
P.S: After 7 hours of application and after a refreshing shower I still feel the basenotes on my hand..great staying power,it's really quality stuff!:)
This is much more than just another citrus scent!
The opening is a citrus blast of juicy mandarin
and clementine, violet and orange flower follow
closely behind, adding complexity. The base of amber
and vanilla blend seamlessly for a hint of sweetness.
It never gets too sweet, because the patchouli lingers
just under the surface.A multidimensional citrus indeed!
I think it may be better suited for a man.Think, sexy,
sophisticated,Rock Star! Sillage is impressive and
extremely long wearing:)
The opening is a little orange, a little honey, and a lot of strong gasoline. It's not like I'm not a fan of a little smoky gasoline, or odd strange openings...I like Lushs' Breath of God after all.. But this particular combo of notes is not good, it's pretty nasty to my nose. But I wasn't scared off yet...I wanted to wait for the heart and the drydown. This has been on my want list for months and months and I finally got a sample, so I wanted to give this a chance. Turns out, it dries down to a soapy orange scented powdered detergent, but still has that gasoline scent to it, although that part really tames down after an hour and goes away completely during hour 2. This doesn't go thru any changes, it stays the same throughout. It lasted about 3 hours on me, then faded alot but stayed close. For me, this is not full bottle worthy, it's ok I guess. 50 ml for $135 on luckyscent..that's just too much money for this. Think about how many powdery orange soapy scents there are out there for less money, and some of them done even better than this one. After you consider that, crossing this off your list of wants is pretty easy.
I love this so much! It so green and astringent and almost gasoline-esque to start with, and settles to a slightly soapy, green and bitter Orange leaf. Then the rich amber, musk, patchouli drydown comes to the fore. It reminds me very much of Tauer's Incense Rose, but rather than the sweet and floral rose of Incence Rose this has greeness, violet leaf and Mandarin to add light and power to rich spicey incense base.
I think this is sublime. Having gorged on my tester I must now have a bottle!
Sillage and longevity are excellent.
One of the scents I don't want to analize, but just to breath deeper...The perfumery assistant told me it was a warm orange scent, but I don't find it warm, a warm orange scent is Eau Claire des Merveilles for me (which I also adore). Orange Star IS citrusy and soapy, with a hint of amber and incense, but I don't find that a disadvantage - it's not ordinary or simple at all. Sometimes it reminds me of a herbal shampoo we had at home when I was a child... and generally it brings back some good memories, but the image is not very clear... The drydown is similar to L'Air du Dessert Marocain, but brighter in a way. My last craving!
today i received a sample vial and couldn't resist trying it directly on my skin and was rendered speechless... it is so bold, really warm with some bitter orange and even a little bit spicy... never what i associated it with. the drydown is warm, ambery with just a hint of orange (= not smelling like floor cleaning detergent :-D). it is really nice.
it is funny, how department stores and media in one's growing up environment influences how one associates expressions. for me "citrus" and "orange blossom" equaled floor and toilet cleaning detergents or air freshener. so, the mere name of this perfume sent my nose far away from the bottle itself... not so orange star.
this is my recommendation to all perfume lovers: andy tauer's compositions are really, really exquisite and deserve to be sniffed at... at least once ;-)
Orange star has A LOT of passion in it. It's definitely not joking or intends to play with you. It demands your attention and craves your skin to develop it's rather simple structure, which is executed with the most passionate way. Orange flowers shine from the first spray, they play the leading part, and then here comes the magnificent cinnamon along with the frankincense with it's citric background, to compliment the sour softness of the orange flowers.
But what I love the most, is it's slightly animalic side thanks to ambergris (and maybe hints of patchouly..) which boosts the whole composition sky high!
It's such a pleasure wearing Orange star.. I think I'm already addicted to it's amazing beauty. And I think I'm going to love it for a very long time.
Chapeau to Mr Tauer!
This was love at first sight. I rarely do buy perfumes which I haven't tried but this one made me go back to the perfume shop minutes after I went away. I wanted that lovely, chic, original, long lasting, marvellous, deep scent. I do not detect notes in particular - apart from the obvious orange - and with Orange Star I experience the miracle I only rarely have and only with few Great Perfumes (i.e. Parure, Mitsouko): Orange Star becomes you, it moves with you, it smiles with you. It develops in a totally original way I would say each different day. This is a masterpiece, after one year of intense wearing I am as much in love as the first day.
this is an incredible scent, but very puzzling- I am not smelling the notes that are listed- instead, I get a deep honeyed wood note, mixed with incense! The scent feeling is reminiscent of Alien Liqeuer- but this one has superior longevity and potency-
asmhfdbds- to answer your questions, yes- this is a great fragrance for a guy or a gal, and it has incredible longevity- I put on less than 1/5 of a ml 8 hours ago, and the scent has never left my side for a moment-
I think it would be fine for any season, but particularly nice for fall or winter
Bitter, bitter orange at first spray, which I found much more appealing than your usual run-of-the-mill citrus. It toned down quickly though and in 15-20 minutes became a much more generic orange/amber, still pleasant, but unfortunately after about an hour it morphed into a really strong orange disinfectant smell, clean and soapy, but not what I want to smell on myself. I really quite liked it up until then...such a pity the drydown lets down what could have been a perfectly nice perfume. Thank you Yamba1 for the opportunity to test this - BTW although it eventually lasted quite a few hours on my skin, I had to use practically the whole 1ml vial to get it going.
I received a sample of this just a few days ago. When I first put it on I was taken aback by the sharpness. It reminded me of the greenish oil sometimes left on your hand after peeling a fresh picked orange. A wonderful thing in an orange, but not really an edge I want in a scent. After 15-20 minutes though that edge softened and merged into a much more appealing melange. It warms, mellows and became very much something I wanted to continue to let develop to see where it went. It stayed close but was very long lasting and moved through multiple phases, soft, warm, spicy...at one brief point almost making me think of a creamsicle (a good thing to me!), each of which I seemed to like even more than the last. I put off taking a shower until morning because I didn't want to wash it off. As an added bonus, my DH who usually says 'Oh yeah, that's nice.', loved it enough to actually want get me a bottle RIGHT NOW! This will definitely become part of my regular fragrance wardrobe.
I love it & am searching for partial bottles due to the heavy price tag. This is the best I've come across since Summer Fizz.
No, that one is not for me. Too much bitter orange and that synthetic orange kills the amber notes for me completely. I miss all the other note on that one only the chemically spritzed orange..maybe I have to try again later but today it stinks on my paper strip and I don t dare testing it on the skin.
Initially this smells like citrus, orange blossom, and spice, possibly cinnamon. It also contains a strange, unidentifiable note that quickly reveals itself as the odor of new leather, the kind of leather than mostly smells like the chemicals used to process it without much of the animal in it. To me, it’s a pleasant smell reminiscent of new shoes (next to perfumes, one of my favorite things to buy). The new shoes gradually take on a more floral, slightly green, slightly spicy, violet scent, which is truly beautiful.
After an hour or two there’s a subtle woody note a few inches away from the skin, a strong bitter almond one up close, and something salty and beach-like floating around in wisps here and there on top of it all. As the stuff dries down, the bitter almonds start to be accompanied by a vanilla-tonka like base tinged with just a tiny bit of patchouli. I suppose this is the “amber” that’s listed in the official notes. After about 6-7 hours, just when the scent seems to be on its way out, it gets a second wind, becoming sweet and ambery with overtones of sage and ambergris. This phase is wonderful. The sequence takes an entire day to unfold, so longevity is excellent. Sillage is close to the body, for the most part.
All in all, this is a perfume that I would classify as “interesting”, without being completely loveable. There are just too many things going on. The bitter almond, especially, seems obtrusive and out of place, and clashes with the other notes. For me, it just might be a deal-breaker. This is one of those scents that I’ll revisit and enjoy from time to time while my sample vial lasts, while trying to decide whether I feel compelled to spring for a decant.
I have it now on my hand, gorgeous pair of citrus and amber notes. It's citrusy floral with warm undertones at the very beginning, with time amber becomes richer and more mysterious, it feels almost like Frankincense - bold, warm, unforgettable. I like it ;o)
The bottle is heavy, and the cap is wooden and smells beautiful.
