Silk Way is a soft and subtle oriental skin scent that is perfect to warm you up on those cold winter nights.
Initially, this scent smells to me just like apple pie, hot from the over. Juicy, hot green apples with a hearty dash of warm cinnamon.
As it dries down, I get more of the deep, smoky incense and creamy vanilla, which is really a fabulous accompaniment to the spicy cinammon. It is rounded off with a touch of musk and amber.
The entire composition of this scent is very smooth and well...silky.
It doesn't have huge sillage...it wears very close to the skin in the much same way that silk itself does. The lasting power is only around 4-5 hours, but I love to reapply this one often anyway, so that I get to experience the "hot apple pie" scent over and over again.
A great, inexpensive perfume with a cute bottle, and an excellent comfort fragrance for the brisk days of winter and the holiday season.
For me it is unfortunately not similar to Barbara Bui. Not at all. I shouldn't have bought this one instead BB... :(((
And I have to say , I only say if you can endure, because I am such a heavy duty fragrance Lover such as Kenzo Jungle..... But Oh My, it is softly nice, in a subtle way..x
As my nose has a memory, a little jaded now as the years kick in, it took some time for me to remember what Silk Way reminded me of. It has now dawned upon me...If anyone out there remembers "Big Charlie Bubble Gum", a very long piece of gum in a wrapper of pink, blue plastic?... correct me if I fail this wrapper, from the 70's.... Rather something I was not allowed to buy, or could get my hands on easily.....lol....But when I did, I was in bubble gum heaven and I would portion out the gum stick in small amounts, with its pink, musky, floury appearance,(I don't mean flowery) so it would last until I could get some more.... and that was rare....
I find this fume bringing fond memories of those days, it is a little unexpected luxury, not strong but not weak, kinda comforting and in no way intrusive to our sensitive nostrils.
Top notes last for about 3-5 mins, and the base notes emerge and mellow out like soft pillows of feathers....
Is really a heaven scent if you can endure something so light and fluffy.... Enjoy...x
Just got Barbara Bui and they are indentical! I'm glad I only 1 oz bottle.
I agree with mahanta it REALLY does smell like Barbara Bui Le Parfum. I'm not really getting the incense but rather cinnamon with just a little cedar & creamy vanilla. I think the citrus adds warmth.
A lovely fall scent IMO.
I am personally really enjoying this fragrance!
Silk Way has nothing to do with floral fruity...it's an all around oriental, from beginning to end.
I wonder if the notes are correct as well, because I am not getting any fruits. It reminds me of sweet fresh coffee with hazelnut creamer and sprinkled with cinnamon....just wonderful!
This is not a heavy fragrance,it doesn't have that oppressive thick quality. Silk Way is a very smooth composition, it has that crystal clear, lucid scent of more expensive fragrances, no muddled notes here.
The sillage is great, it projects really well, and i can continuously enjoy it for a few hours.
Some people say it's boring. I'm not sure what boring means in others' eyes, but to me boring is something flat, linear, with weak sillage and longevity. And Silk Way possesses none of these traits, not to my nose at least. Yes, it's a casual fragrance, but it does have a unique personality, and I have nothing to compare it to from my big collection at the moment. It feels a little bit like Trussardi Inside, but it's a distinctively different scent.
The simple clear bottle looks very elegant too. Lovely blind buy, definitely a keeper for me!
Surprising that no-one has mentioned that Barbara Bui Le Parfum and Silk Way might be twin sisters!? As the top notes are gone in a couple of seconds, the incense-y beauty appears and at least on my skin it is 1:1 with BB. However, if many people find similarities between BB and SR "Women not for men", there are no big similarities between SR and Silk Way - SR is much more peppery and light-hearted. The longevity is quite decent. Rich, creamy, smokey - a wonderful comfort scent for long, chilly autumn evenings;)
Bought this one on a whim. Won't be doing that anytime soon. This fragrance does not WOW me to say the least. Somehow I'm still waiting for something more to develop once applying it. Maybe I need to be more patient or maybe I'll just be waiting for a very very long long time for something interesting to happen. Never knew just how boring Vanilla could get.
Edit: Tried it the second time around, sorry but just keep getting same results. Must be my skin chemistry. Even on just applying it I don't get any fruity or floral notes. It's as if the entire fragrance is made up of only the base notes to my nose. All I get from start to finish is amber, vanilla & incense. On a long awaited drydown it's still incensy vanilla, which I'm not all that crazy about or maybe the combination of it. Sorry but to no avail this fragrance still does not like my skin. Awesome for those it seems to agree with.
I tried this and it almost made me vomit. It reminded me of cigarettes. Terrible stuff!
Purchased this based on reviews. Not always a great idea. It is nice but at first it reminded me of the old Coty Wild Musk I wore in grade school in the 70's.
It opens a little masculine with the cedar but that that quickly fades. It warms up to a sweet vanilla-y powder, nice and creamy, but that quickly fades. Then it's powder, powder, powder, but that quickly fades. IOW, it doesn't last long.
I do like it though. I can see it as an evening out scent. It might last long enough for that.
Oh, and it's very strong. I will use it but only sparingly.
Edited to add: The problem with using it sparingly is that it is so short-lived. I found that when I re-apply it after lunch it goes sour on me. Not sure what that's all about. I am using it and enjoying it in the mornings, but it is gone long before lunch. I may have to save this one for evening only.
ETA 8-20-10: Okay, I really do love this scent. I have found that there are times of the month that my skin chemistry goes wacko, and nothing smells good on me. I tested several things with my daughter last weekend, and all of them took on that sour "perfume-gone-bad" smell. Don't listen to me previous review. Silk Way is a really fabulous scent. One of my favorite blind buys!
This one is for all the vanilla oriental heavy fragrances lovers out there. I don't like it very much because sadly i find it a little bit boring and not too interesting, i don't see how it developes into something deeper...
After perusing the notes, which look devine, I purchased this one on a whim.
It's probably one of the best perfume choices I've made. Simply stunning.
This is not a fruity floral...it's a vanilla/slightly spicy oriental all the way. The peach and cedar dominate the top with a dash of cinnamon warmth. This quickly melds into the delightful vanilla and incense base which is creamy, smokey and sultry.
There is nothing light or casual about this one. It is deep and dark, made for the night.
Any brave and confident woman who loves incense scents should love it, no matter her age.
I tried this on at a friend's and was surprised by the complexity, as she usually goes for fruity floral fluff. It is what I would definitely term a formal scent, being a strongly Aldehydic Floral. It goes on with a sweet candy start over a powdery base, hinting of talc. The aldehydes impart the sensation of sparkling metal, perhaps jewelry, but somehow remain warm, like skin. There are fruit notes overall, but in an old-style French fashion, not as a sugared pink modern conconction. Elegant and yes, as mellybee says, decadent. It feels expensive and still comfortable at the same time. Lovely and layered, it smells like a glorious evening out in black silk and jewels, made up, looking great, escorted by a handsome man in a tux...it's dream stuff. Unfortunately for me, it gradually takes on a note that I can only describe as 'medicated foot powder.' Other expensive old style perfumes have done this on me, En Avion to name one, and it's always disappointing. Without that sticky mentholated powdery note--and it's very faint, mind you--this would be a perfect scent. On others, it will be. On me, it's only perfect for a little while, but it's so very lovely for that short time.
I found Silk Way in my local perfumery lately and I'm quite surprised that this little gem is not reviewed yet.
Silk Way was an ancient trade route that linked China, India, Persia and the Mediterranean countries for over two thousand years. Silk was carried westward, while wool, gold, and silver were carried eastward.
The creator's ambition might be to marry the most rare and precious materials, that have travelled the legendary road as the perfume's notes are among others Italian citron, Atlas Cedarwood, Sambac Jasmin, Ceylon Cinnamon, Incense, White Musk and Bourbon Vanilla .
Silk Way opens with fruity notes but they bear no relation to the cloying synthetic fruity accords that embroider many feminin composition these days.
A dry note of cedar softens the sweetness of the fruits before the flowers reveal themself.
The entire composition rests on the vanilla-incense combination smelling as a vanilla flavoured cigar. (It seems to be my skin chemistry since every perfume with incense note turns into smoky on me.)
Honestly I was a bit afraid to try this fragrance as an another perfume of Ted Lapidus was an unpleasant olfactory experience for me, but Silk Way has a decadent feel of a silk dress and I so dreadfully want to add it to my collection.
