Elegant and masculine woodsy note of patchouli and Atlas cedar develops after the metal accord of mint and lavender. At the end, the intensive woodsy composition turns into an explosive energy of coffee and stirax in the warm musk and Tonka surrounding.
The bottle was designed by Thierry Mugler himself, and there are two variances – a shiny metal one and rubbery black. The fragrance was launched in 1996.
The nose behind this fragrance is Jacques Huclier.

I certainly respect this fragrance, but must say that you should be VERY careful when wearing this for the first time - especially when you're in a bad mood, sick, hung-over, etc.. It makes an bombastic impression - especially the tar/gourmand pairing - and if you happen to be in another state of emotion other than good/positive, it can be sickening and overwhelming. Trust.
Unfortunately, I've got a few really flamboyant friends who love to drench themeselves in this (it seems to be one of the, "I'M HERE, GIRL!!' scents of some guys) and after a few too many drinks, this scent became a virtual finger down the throat - made me rush to the toilet faster than you can take a breath.
BTW - I'm usually the one they run from due to my taste in vintage, animalic and musky scents. The sheer volume and throw can make frangrances of the 70s-80s seem mild - even Aromatics Elixir ... and that's saying something.
I'll have to try this one during a positive upswing :)
This cologne is the god of gourmands. In the opening, I do get that "harsh" tar note, but it doesn't annoy me at all. From the first time I smelled this, I was not at all bothered with the top notes. I find the top notes to be very earthy and spicy with a hint of sweetness. Then when it dries down, the caramel becomes the dominant accord, which is absolutely wonderful. This thing lasted me a whole day!!! It projects like a beast, which gave me a ton of compliments from both men and women. I'm also a 16 year old boy who wears this, and when I bought it I thought to myself "Hmm... Is this too mature for myself?". But I still went ahead and bought it a few weeks ago, and by god this this is one of the best fragrances I have ever smelled. Guys, go ahead and buy it if you're into gourmands. You wont be disappointed.
I may get demonized for this but I have chosen to give my honest opinion. I was excited to see this at my local Macy's and sprayed some on a tester strip. I didn't like it but I decided to give it another chance and as a true test, I went back to Macy's and sprayed it on myself and wore it. (This is the only true way to test a fragrance.) After a few hours, I still didn't like it. To me, it doesn't even smell like cologne. It's more like "SOMETHING smells like SOMETHING." It's a weird smell to me. (Unique is good, weird not as much) Just weird and not that pleasant. So weird that I'm not sure exactly how to describe it. MAYBE one day I'll try it again. No one hold your breath...
este perfume es para putos y ademas huele a a establo
The smell is very nice, chocolatey, pastry, bake shop.....I just dont get the legendary projection or longevity from this at ALL. I wish I did cos its nice, maybe its my skin? Im always afraid to do more than 2 sprays of this one but I have asked people if they can smell it and they say no :(
Maybe I have a bum bottle, I did purchase from sephora, but who knows?
Will try upping the sprays today and let everyone know how it works out :)
I have bought A*men tester from a local fragrance resaler with numbers on the package all fine.I have never smelled before this freagrance and i dont know if its genuine or not but it lasts whoooooping 26~ hours on my dry skin! I really cant tell if it is reformulated or not.People say that it can be felt on around 3-4 seats from me in a bar etc.I get really harsh tar like burning tar on me for the first hour/hour and half and after that the fragrance calm down. When i hit the 3 and half hour mark its like exploding again but only this time in thick chocolate mocca and vanilla scent and i adore it its absolutely amazing.I can feel the smell around me for around 8-10 hours and after that when i smell the spot of it its still there and kicking alot for more then 24 hours. If that is the reformulated thing i can just imagine what the old one A'men was!
I must say I don't feel this too sweet, well balanced (on me) and timeless. Appeared in 1996 and no one feels it old or grandpa scent:)
I smell lavender/earth (like a cellar) with a pinch of mint and sweet incense, patchouli, caramel, wood. Very dry on my skin.
Enormous, heavy, harsh, love or hate fragrance, because it's too different and dorky, not for everyone and not only for men. When I use Amen, I feel like I mark out of the crowd, so unusual. I like that I feel all day, not a light watery boring stuff for a tons of money, it's quality that's worth it
It smells like chocolate syrup with caramel and woody essence down below. Nice to smell but definitely too sweet.
A... TOTAL... WASTE... OF... MONEY... NOW.
A*Men was my signature fragrance from 1999-2006, and I currently own a full bottle of it that I purchased in 2012, so believe me when I tell you that it is now about 1/3 the strength that it used to be. Two sprays from the bottle used to be almost too much, and would last for about 24 hours. Now I have to use at least six sprays and the fragrance last about 6-8 hours. Now, if that's your gig, then please, waste your loot. I was merely offering some advice to misbehavin that the fragrance he sampled was NOT the one he would ultimately be owning, should he choose to buy it, unless he just got extremely lucky.
Silage is solid and fragrance last long!!! Too bad I didn't like the smell. Probably the Tar and ashtray smell is what did it. Without that it would be solid!!
I wish these snobs would stop blaming their distaste for fragrances on reformulations. If you're that whiny, then why are you even shopping for fragrances in the first place? Things change, get over it. "misbehavin" obviously loves this, so why are you shooting him down? Leave him alone.
This scent hasn't been out as long as some of the classic fragrances that have been drastically reformulated throughout the years, so the reformulation really isn't terribly different. Now fragrances like Opium, Samsara, Kouros, Chanel No*5, etc. DO have very different reformulations, but that's mostly because regulations have dictated that their ingredients change according to new laws and standards.
I adore this. I used to hate it, mostly because I kept trying to stave off my interest in food, sweet scents. When I first sampled this, I didn't give it time to develop, and all I smelled was stale urine and burnt coffee.
But that's because I was only sampling this in passing, by spraying it on a tester card.
Angel is my signature fragrance, so of course, I have a disposition to like this as well, because they're quite similar...This one just depends less on patchouli to carry it, relying more on the foody elements like coffee, caramel, honey, milk, etc. to give it a complex scent all its own. With Angel, it's a straight bomb of patchouli, chocolate, cotton candy, and honey, on my skin...but this one develops quite different for me.
I used to resist buying this for fear that I'd just be spending more money on a very similar fragrance, but I now realize that this is a beautiful scent all its own.
Anyone who looks loud, sweet, yummy scents will love this, regardless of gender identity.
misbehavin, I'm sorry to inform you of this, but that is DEFINITELY the pre-reformulated version of A*men that you sampled and it is no longer available. Two small sprays of the new one would barely last six hours and hardly be a 15/10. :( If you know where to buy the old stuff however, please, please, let me know, because yes, you ARE RIGHT, AT ONE TIME IT WAS AMAZING. Please don't be fooled into buying this however. It's a total waste of money now.
OH MY GOD!
I was looking through Fragrantica to find something which stays all day long and I decided to order a sample of A*Men. I'm stunned by it's quality and longevity! I had four sprays from a 1,2 ml sample and these were so weak that my skin wasn't even wet and the fragrance lasted 9+ hours on my skin!! I've tested A*Men for two days. That's breathtaking! I can't imagine applying two regular sprays from a regular bottle! At first the sillage was enormous, the fragrance was everywhere and through the hours it was only better - the sillage was fading very, very slow.
I don't consider this fragrance any sweet or vanilla or caramel. It's very fresh, spicy, empowering, hypnotizing, impossibly sexy and luxury. A little bit smoky, but clean at once. I loved it instantly, as well as people around me. So it must be true that this is that kind of fragrance you love or hate, nothing in between.
I would really recommend it for any occasion. I have used it during really hot day, wearing it at work and it worked just fine, with every little move it was flying all around me and I felt just great! I can only imagine how great it works in Winter!
The fact it:
- Superior quality
- Enormous longevity
- Great sillage
- Sexy, sexy, sexy!
- Love it or hate it
Overall: 15 out of 10!
JUST GOT THIS COLOGNE AND I MUST SAY THIS ONE LIVES UP TO THE NAME THIS MIGHT BE ONE OF MY BEST COLOGNES I HAVE ITS A VERY SWEET SMELLING COLOGNE NOT SOMETHING I NORMALLY WEAR BUT WHEN I DO I HAVE ALOT OF WOMEN TELL ME HOW GOOD I SMELL FROM 1 TO 10 I RATE IT A 10 BECUSE IT LAST ALONG TIME AND THE SMELL CARES A GOOD TRAIL WHERE EVER UR WALKING TO AND ON COOL NIGHT THIS WOULD BE GREAT TO ME IT SMELLS LIKE CARAMEL IN CHOCLATE BUT ITS A GREAT COLOGNE IF U DONT LIKE SWEET STUFF U WILL NOT LIKE IT BUT I DO KNOW THIS WOMEN LOVE IT
This fragrance divides opinion. I first read about it on here looking for something unique. I ordered a sample. Upon arrival, I sprayed it immediately on my skin. Loved it. Loved the harsh, intrusive tar note. Loved the sweet, ever evolving dry down. Bought a 50ml bottle not long after. Along with the infamous Pure Malt. Now - since then.. My opinion has changed a bit. Let me first say - my family, can not stand it. It almost makes my mother gag and my bro will not be in the same room with me if I wear it. Since wearing this fragrance I've actually not been complemented. Alternatively - Pure Malt is the most complimented fragrance I've ever owned. Some of the compliments on that one have been of a sexual nature and from women I don't know.
The original however - is not exactly versatile. In fact, I struggle to think of a time when such a scent could be used. It's very very sickly on the dry down, with an intrusive tangy sweet smell that is ever strong. It very potent... Better word would be pungent. Sometimes I'm confused as to whether it's ingenious or just a mess of ingredients. This is by no means a shy smell and it is quite a sexual, dirty scent too. 1 spray is probably all you need unless you want the smell to be all up in your nostrils all day long. It's definitely a love/hate fragrance. Something I will love then tire of, then love then tire of... And so on and so on. I do love the fragrance for it's sheer balls and originality. I also love the tar opening - I don't think it's an attractive smell... But I think it's pretty bad ass.
So to summarize, A*men is a powerhouse. A sickly, intoxicating, sweet, LOUD scent. If you can master it, then it's bound to be used to great effect. But it will take quite sometime to understand such a fragrance.
Bruce Willis signature:)
this parfume make s me hungry :)) its strong.
I was never a fan of this, until yesterday. Yesterday I sprayed this on my pulse points and I really enjoyed. I get chocolate, coffee, sweetness, aroma, when wearing this. It isn't the most versatile cologne, but it's different. I think this would be good for intimacy. It lasted 16 hours on my skin or more. Lasts long and projects great. Try it.
Just like all of the once great fragrances which have been reformulated, watered down, or discontinued altogether after the Great Recession and the recent tightening of the IFRA regulations, A*Men is now but a ghost of it's former self. Two sprays used to border on too much, now 6 doesn't even last half that long. It's still a "nice" scent to be sure, but it's nothing special, nor is A*Men worth a purchase unless, of course you can locate a bottle that is positively from 2010 or prior. If you know how to do this, or have a full bottle of the original magic, please PM me and let me know. I have a vintage bottle of Givenchy's pre-reformulation Xeryus Rouge that you might be interested in... ;)
FIN.
Also i have tried Animale Animale, and i see that alot of people smell a likeness to A*Men, but guy's if u ever come across Animale Animale, grab that instead...... That one (animale a.) is the better gourmand fragrance than this hideous thing.
Why was it even named Angel when it bears zero resemblence to it being of Divine quality?????
Before actually smelling this, i clicked on the "i want it" button. I just had 2 sprays of this on the back of my hand and boy is it Pungent. I woud not go too far to call it pungently nasty, but i do not find this scent attractive. ForPure Havane, ok maybe an 80% chance that i might get a bottle but not anytime soon.
I don't understand people's fascination with this stuff. By gosh it's even included on youtube reviewers top ten list's.
Nope, not for me.i have even washed my hand with warm water but that dark scent lingers quite strongly on my skin.
I tried this today because I've been on a Thierry Mugler kick and heard some people prefer this to Angel. The tar note lasts a while, about 30 minutes and is rough to get through. Afterwards, I got caramel and chocolate and it honestly smelled like I spilled a fancy coffee on myself. At that point, it's not offensive, but it's not particularly how I wanted to smell. I can understand why some people are repulsed by that early tar note, but I can see why someone would like the dry down. I just don't want to smell like a Caramel Machiatto
This juice is repulsive. I'd never want anybody to ever have to smell like this. I feel so sorry for the people that actually bought it. Everybody they pass must be offended. This overrated fragrance does not drop panties, it clears rooms. Not to mention the hideous bottle. Its like a deodorant stick with a star stuck on it. lol
Yeah it's alright. Sweet but not sickly, a very masculine sweetness if there is indeed such a thing.
Unfortunatly i doubt i will be getting another bottle of this stuff. I initially fell in love, it smelled wonderfully deep and complex...on paper that is. But on my skin i really can't smell anything but the patchouli, vanilla and meybe a tiny hint of the creamy caramel and coffee. And it only lasts 7hrs tops which is amazing considering its reputation for having fantastic longevity, i suppose my skin chemistry just isn't suited to A*men :(
It's the king of nightclubs ! pantydroper scent..
A member has asked about this one, reminded me of it, so I have just put it on my skin... wow, great, I'll be wearing this next week, made me feel very confident, strong and unbeatable. Yes, there's waaay too much patchouli for my usual taste, but marvelously mixed with coffee and all these sweets - well, I just feel like it.
And, I think it is worth for male wearers as well - one spritz only.
Chocolate and asphalt, vanilla coffe and tires burned... Caramel and melted rubber... it's for the brave ones... crying for forgiveness... you'll never be forgetfull...
worst fragrance ive ever smell...dont like it at all because of the caramel in the opening...so sweet...dislike it..im not a fanatic to this type of fragrance.
My only wish is that they make an alternative version for those who can't stand the tar and the patchouli. That would have been great!
Just the scent I'm looking for. I don't care what other people say, I love this smell and I get tons of compliments on it. The strangest of which was someone last night saying 'you smell really good... Really fresh' ? I don't think this is a fresh fragrance... But it's very warm, inviting, seductive, flamboyant, theatrical, heroic and it's one of the few that I feel suits me. Actually another strange compliment I got on this was 'you smell like london' lol. It has a gigantic, ridiculous projection cloud for hours and hours... Like literally a ten hour projection cloud - stunning. Also, no one wears this in Australia, so it's completely my scent, along with Black XS :)
I was not sure what to expect with this one.
I just received this today and WOW...
This is a magnetic monster (and I love it ;)
Caramel, hint of coffee but mostly a beautiful depth of a not too sweet chocolate and smooth vanilla. The patchouli ( I am growing to love more and more) adds that depth/slight earthiness and character that blends well with the coffee and keeps the other notes darker, a little mysterious. The sandalwood, amber and musk play nicely to harmonize the stronger caramel, patchouli, vanilla.
Interestingly I get a tiny hint of lavender and jasmine (very light) but they are present in a way they add a spiciness (in masculine way) to this.
I see many reviews about a sharp opening, 'tar', or 'minty tar' opening, although I didn't get that myself (went right to dark chocolate/coffee and slight earthiness from patchouli). I do love how each inhale there are all the warm and sweet accords then at the very end that earthy spiciness--nice surprise to contrast the others adding an almost animalic ending.I find if you spray a frag that you find harsher on your skin into the air first and walk into it instead of right onto the skin it can take out some of the harsher top notes.
Sweet, sexy, irresistible stunner.
Edit: over 15 hours later, a shower and workout included, I still clearly smell a warm coffee/ chocolate and vanilla...:D
Wow, a huge number of reviews. Mostly positive. My deepest respect for the guys who give this A*Men 10-15 tries before going from hate to adoration. I like Oriental Woody frangrances. I thought I would love this scent from the reviewers, but no. Opening was so confusing, sweet candy/cake chocolate, caramel, mixed with something horrible-most people are saying tar, but it's like tar/very stale tobacco/almost fecal scent. My initial thought was Geeezuz these two scents do not belong together, because each one is so strong and noticeable. My brain would not understand the mixing of these two scents, they did not blend.
I understand people loving the dry down for it's chocolateness, caramel, rich, edible scents. Now, if a dessert I ordered came to me and I smelled the dry down coming from the cake, I know I would love to eat the cake. But in cologne, I would rather not smell like a rich chocolate dessert. Also, the drydown was so cloying, after a while I got nauseas and had to wash it off.
I understand those that love it (sweet tooth!), but not for me. I'd eat it in a dessert, just not wear it as a cologne.
I can honestly say that A*Men has been a learning experience for me. My lack of fragrance dissection skills left me flummoxed after my first few wears of this fragrance. I knew that I liked it a lot but had no way of explaining why. To add to this it smells almost (not quite fortunately) faecal at times with its discordant coffee-caramel and smarting spiciness.
This morning I had sprayed only a single body shot as I find it so powerful. As the morning went on I received a parcel of Caldey Island Lavender. I had to try some of course and dabbed a small amount onto my wrists. Very nice – pure lavender. Similar to walking past a lavender field on a hot and breezy summer’s day.
Sometime later I had a waft of A*Men and picked out the lavender immediately. My uncultured nose hadn’t isolated the note before - although it now seems so obvious. I feel it is this note that produces the beautiful harmony out of the discord created with the coffee-caramel. Mixing the overtly sweet and dense edible with the pretty and delicate but inedible. A discord that Schoenberg would surely have been proud of if he had turned his musical skills to that of perfumery.
I personally do not care for this fragrance but goddamn do I respect it. I sampled it for a few days in the winter season to get a sense of it. First off, this is a projection beast. Absolutely and utterly serious, two sprays to the chest MAX or you WILL offend people. That aside, it is truly a bold and daring composition. It is just as described sweet, chocolate caramel offset with patchouli and tar notes. What a magnificent contrast. I could not get used to having it on me and I did not receive any flattery from my girlfriend and family because it did not seem to fit my personality, and I have to agree. But truly a masterpiece in its own right. I understand why this is as hyped as it is but I have to say it takes a certain type of person to truly pull this off, and hats tipped to those of you who do. Definitely a try before you buy, but I am sure you could have figured out that logic by its price tag.
i bought a sample from fragranceX that must have been seriously expired or something because it reeks to high heaven. i mean its BAD. Opening notes are so sour, and as it dries it smells like crushed leaves and hot coco powder.
A*Men/Angel Men reminds me of the delicious aroma of a hot chocolate rice porridge (champorado) on a cold morning.
Distinctive, especially the opening "tar" note, which gives it a unique incense vibe. Caramel-y, sweet, chocolate-y -- the drydown is rich and creamy. Longevity is excellent, and the projection is wide, despite the reformulation rumors.
Strong, maybe too strong to some people -- one or two sprays go a long way. I agree with majority's sentiment that A*Men is a love-hate fragrance; and I fall under the love camp. This great gourmand is a must-experience.
when you like a scent, you just simply like it.
the scent might not be the best on you, but you would be happy wearing it.
the cacophonic composition of chocolate notes, both bitter and sweet, the odor of milk that almost turn sour masked with vanilla seeds and coffe bean, then comes fresh camphorous vibe from the patchouli and mint duo, toffee-caramel sweet, honey, and a hint sweet sticky scent dry fruits, like prunes or raisins.
i find the composition of note is quite radical, yet turns out to be one of the most potent, alluring fragrance for men. simply amazing.
In my opinion one of the best fragrances ever created. It is magnificent, not for the opening (which is very harsh for some people) but for the glorious drydown that lasts like 48 hours. Caramel, chocolate, coffee, vanilla, amber...it is creamy and rich. Some may appreciate this some won't. Always in my top 10.
a fragrance how man shouldn´t smell. It smells better on woman.
One of the best gourmands out there. The dry down smells like a different desert every time.
The opening is like getting punched in the face. But you start to associate it with the dry down and it starts smelling good after a while. I hated the opening originally. It smells like burning patchouli, road tar and very very dark chocolate mints. However, on my skin thankfully, it goes to full dry down mode pretty quickly, and it turns into almost pure coffee bean. This stage of the fragrance, I call the "starbucks" phase, where it kind of smells like a cafe.
The dry down starts with smelling very creamy on me. It almost smells like if you put caramel in half in half. Like very sweet creamy milk. The milk goes away and it turns into milk chocolate and caramel. This is the most enjoyable part for me, because it remind me of a bakery. It smells like sugar cookies and chocolate caramel cake. Very delicious. This is an always-have in my collection for me. However, Pure Malt blows it away.
A*men= the sexiest man
its for sure best scent made ever i try 100 of scents but im not found like this one its made for me hhhh tnx thierry mugler.
Lol Renzo, you don't like it then? I normally ignore this sort of 'review' but in this case it's funny to see how dislike of a fragrance becomes a slagging off session of any 'idiot' who doesn't share that view.
Anyway I'm a female in the 40's age group and I am going to be an idiot and upset lots of people at work with it today - watch out world!
I love this stuff, gorgeous unisex, weird and an extreme example of the 'eat me but I'm toxic' Angel genre. I think 'Angel' is as valid a category as 'Chypre' now.
Definitely try it, get yourself a sample off the web!
@Renzo77, I think you have a problem with idiots... I must be an idiot, I love it. Proud to be an idiot!
My very first mainstream perfume. I loved it. Even now, I wouldn't be against the fact to wear it, even if I avoid mainstream perfumes.
That's a real masterpiece, an original one.
I want to love this so bad... but my lady hates it and wont let me rock it
it is an amazing bom!
Unusual, addictive, and hands down is one of the best frags for men!
it's milk choc + mint or coffe latte with choc shavings n mint leaves for garnish. Temptation at its best.
Well, I do detect kind-of raisin note... like fruitcake, the smell of sugary, tangy sweet of dried fruits...
One spray, Tony Stark's scent.
Two spray, Sexy and dandy like David Beckham.
Three spray, Gay.
More than three, alien.
I love THIS cologne.
High quality.
This stuff is dangerous, not for everyone.
Becarefull..
Angel, is my absolute favorite so far & I've tried a lot of ETD & colognes. I love the blend of caramel, coffee, milk, mint, and vanilla, etc., and the longevity lasted for me incredibly well into the next day. I am a confident man of experience and consider Angel a fitting fragrance for the mature gentlemen.
I posted on this some time ago mentioning that I am expecting to start loving this - but not.
It is too much sweet - but dont get me wrong I like sweet- I love Joop Homme , but this is cake sweetness , I am feeling like a candy - very heavy candy .
So I am not wearing this fragrance so much , I like to smell it from the bottle , but not to wear it ...
Sorry orig A*Man - I will probably go for Pure Malt
This is a sweet gourmand fragrance so if you dont like sweet fragrances you wont like this. Opening is very strong and intense. It smells like Dark Chocolate and Coffee but this blast goes away after about 15 minutes and then the fragrance begins to soften down. It begins to smell like a chocolate mint cookie gradually becoming softer.
In the dry down which is where the fragrance is at its best in my opinion it smells like hot chocolate with loads of marshmallows melted in it with a hint of mint. The dry down is slightly powdery.
This is a projection and lasting monster so do not over spray this. For more detailed reviews check out my website mrproductreview.com
Tried this again today: sorry but not for me. It would be nice if it didn't smell like something burnt. With sincere respect for the Mugler house.
Haters gonna hate, but I really like A*Men, and I normally have a strong dislike of coffee fragrances. Well, to me it's mostly patchouli and honey with some balmy accents. When applied correctly it's an intense and interesting fragrance, though I would not call it sexy. Mugler fragrances, though I enjoy them, are not sexy to me.
Literally you only need one spray, much like with Angel. Anything more and you'll clear a room.
En doft som till slut suger en in.
Den går inte att motstå hur man än försöker hålla emot. Fast det tar såklart ett tag att älska den.... Men när....då är det love for life.
candy god
I love it. It deserves to be in my collection always and forever.
The opening doesn't tell anything about the whole fragrance, I'd say it's totally different. Mint plus lavender and corriander - that's what I get.
And then... The real angel comes in. I feel like I'm bathing in the liquid milk chocolate, seriously. Amazing :D I feel it's a complex scent. Heavy. But rather smiling and happy than dark and mysterious. It's getting a little bit bitter at the end, that's the coffee, I guess.
What I don't like in it is the amount of patchouli. I'd say there's a little bit too much of it. But I don't like patchouli at all.
I use it in winter only, eventually during other seasons at night. It's perfect for the party, but applied properly it also fits for the suit IMO. Women around me say I smell beautiful and so manly.
It's definitely a max. 3-sprays frag. It's easy to overspray it, and then it's getting really cloying.
Longevity on my skin is at least 8 h, usually I get 8-12 h with this one. Longevity and sillage are huge.
All in all the whole fragrance is a masterpiece. It's 17 now and I think it'll never get old or outdated. It's a timeless masterpiece.
The tar note is definitely there. Tolerable, but I'm not too keen on the burnt caramel note. It somehow smells like sweetness mixed with cigarette smoke. I was really looking forward to trying this and actually liking this. It hasn't worked. Perhaps I'll sample it again in the future.
*UPDATE*
Okay, the drydown is better, and I definitely want to try it on my skin next time. It might even grow on me, but I wish it didn't project as much as it does.
Sorry…but A*Men is A*Scrubber
Tried this on multiple occasions to give it the benefit of the doubt as many others have stated. Fragrances as “good” as this should not be so high-maintenance...and should not make the wearer suffer for ANY amount of time, as this does in the opening. This is the gourmand creature from the black lagoon. The equivalent of being tarred and feathered with hot caramel. Just too much for any kind of serious use.
Stunning scent, particularly the dry down.
My signature scent, and will be for many many years to come.
Projection is insane, as well as the longevity, 15 hours+
Need I say more?
Let's just say I sat there all day yesterday wearing Le Male and was wishing I had put on A*Men. I've fixed that today. :)
Two words: CLASSY and DELICIOUS! Enough said. :)
This is a great frag - one of my favorites.
I must say that like "au naturale" wrote below that I was very put off by this one at first. The really thick sweet smell was overwhelming and unpleasant to say the least. I could not imagine how someone could wear this. I had put two sprays onto the test strip at Sephora and was in the middle of bouncing around between different scents and this one was just awful.
Flash forward about 6 months and I was looking over various popular offerings on the boards and was wondering how this cologne could be so popular so I went in and got a small sampler vial for another test. I was put off again in the store and figured I would probably pass on this one again, but since I had the sample I would give it a try.
When I first tried the sample at home, I burnt my nose out by spraying it and then quickly getting right up close and trying it. This frag has a very strong initial blast that puts me off a bit. Since I had it all over I decided to just wear it for the day. After a while the initial strong blast was gone and the frag started to melo and was interesting. It was not yet appealing but interesting. I had lots of sweet and lots of carmel and was every so often getting a good whiff off my bringing my forearms right up to my nose. I now see that I was really killing my nose by putting my face up so close so often.
I left A*men alone for about a week and gave it another try the next weekend. This time I changed things up a bit. I did some reading and found out that you can really overpower your shnoz by inhaling the full blast right up front. Now I’ve applied A*men with 1 ½ pumps from the bottle and I let it dry a little without breathing in the initial blast right away. By just moving over to a different part of the room for the first breath after the spray was very helpful. The initial opening is still not my favorite, but it doesn’t last nearly as long now. After I throw my shirt on I start getting the nice sweet scents flowing through.
This frag goes through many changes over time. I really like that. Initially it is thick and sweet. After a while I get a good balance and the carmel and coffee hold in there for a while. Later the scents change again and the woody, spicy notes come through. After about 6 hours, I don’t get a lot of the carmel and sweet unless I move in very close. At that point the frag is not strong enough to burn out my nose and it scent changes with distance.
I am very pleased with this purchase. It took a little getting used too, but I can appreciate what others have known for a while - this is a truly awesome frag. A+ in my book.
Sillage is excellent
Longevity is excellent
Smells exactly like burnt caramel,n really strong n peppery

Does anyone have an idea how.to find the Eau De Parfume version in Rome, Italy? Its unbelievable big city and all i can find is EDT.Checked Sephora anf Beautypoint any ideas ?
This stuff is totally intoxicating. Like being drunk in a hookah bar with the candy man. That sounds really creepy but I don't mean it to be that way :P
I much prefer this to the women's version of angel. The patchouli, honey, chocolate, and coffee mix is awesome. It changes all the time so I could contently sniff this on me or someone for a long time and keep interested. It kind of reminds me of the smell of the store lush and stores at the renaissance festival that sells incense and herbs. Sweet, woody in a way, and very comforting. Would make a great rainy day fragrance, it's so snuggly and just makes me happy. And I think it's a pretty classy gourmand myself, so office appropriate if it's just a spray.
One spray of this is good enough for me... This thing is STRONG... The opening smells horrible and is cloying--induces headaches... After about 3 hours on my skin, heaven. I try to spray it about 2 hours to 3 hours before I leave the house... Nasty nasty opening.
The rich, intoxicating aroma of fresh out of the oven, still hot and moist, chocolate mocha brownies, drenched in delicious molten caramel, all blanketed in sensual haze of the most wondrous patchouli voodoo. Somehow the fragrance conveys not only those basic notes, but an actual sense of warmth. I'm not sure how it has been achieved, but I truly applaud the perfumier involved for his artistry. It is quite remarkable.
This is one of the most powerful fragrances I have encountered. That tar note many have noted I believe is the mingling of the roasted coffee and patchouli at the start, and can be overwhelming if one oversprays. One spritz is enough for me for normal wear, two for when I want to indulge and really let the caramel/mocha/patchouli voodoo do its work. I find also spraying a bit further from the body than I normally would and walking into the mist, distributing the fragrance a bit more over my chest and neck can help further minimize or even eliminate that "tar" phase when the cologne is first applied.
Projection and silage are massive. One spray will be noticed by people around you. For hours. Two will gently fill a room. Few if any fragrances match this level of strength, so spritz responsibly.
bullshit ! this has monster sillage ..after 6 hours you still smell strong like caramel and other people will notice .. they dont even have to come close
Only the opening has enormous sillage. There is no way that this thing has "heavy sillage" yet alone it "fill an entire room" once the tar completely fades away.
Harsh opening, but amazing drydown. Thank god there are flankers.
A unique fragrance.A wonderful mix of patchouli & cinnamon makes this really rock.
Last night in rainy day~
I think that the secret with this one is how you apply it on yourself:
You have to think of A*Man like if it's a strong EDP. Two moderate (not complete) sprays are enough.
If you follow this rule, you'll end up loving this fragrance (and the people around you, too)
Only if you're on a hot date, you can apply an extra spray. ;)
As somebody here said, this is sex in a bottle. Women loves to smell this on you when they're in your arms.
If you use it as a EDT, you'll end nauseating people around you and yourself.
drydown 10/9 !
this stuff is amazingly complex it seems to be different each time i take a smell half the time like a sweet rich chocolate, the other half like sweet caramel fruit. i think the best way i can describe it is like a hookah lounge lots of strong sweet scents all mixed together very good and very strong
Never have I met such a perplexing perfume! Good god, what a roller-coaster ride this bottle has been. But a good one!
My lesson: 1-2 sprays. MAX! Comfy, sweet lavender, some sort of vanilla cupcake? mixed with some pillow linen... ahh.. such a glorious scent. Like following some sort of angel (what a concept!) wafting along...
But over spray? Dreadful. Harsh, obviously fake caramel. Return to sender. Oddly metallic and repulsive to smell in great quantity.
Do not over spray.
The first time I tested this fragrance I was so surprised by his smell and originality! It was so addicting that I wanted that on my neck! It smells like an old museum (but in the good way). It is so good! And on my surprise, I just got it for my birthday! YAY!
Beware people, It's REALLY strong! One or two spays! This perfume is LOVE or HATE, cuz it is sweet and strange so It's not for everybody. But be sure that people around you will love it (unless you put more than 2 sprays, then, they are gonna hate you.). It's very manly despite all the sweetness. So woody and mysterious. Almost smokey and Indian-like. Coffee, caramel, patchouli, woods are kind of main here. It is a temple! It's gonna stay as a legend for a long time.
I bought this based on reviews. My error in doing so. This is sooooo strong. I bought a new bottle, sprayed it on each wrist and the smell of incense was overpowering. It never dried down into anything, other than incense. :-(
I don't really care that this is marketed as a men's fragrance. It's a toned-down, suited-up Angel and dammit it's gorgeous. **spritzes and prances about like a gazelle**
The first time I tried this in the fragrance section, I was mortified beyond comprehension. I immediately "tried" to wash it off of my wrist, but no, it was still there. A*Men was not only defiantly clinging to my skin, but was mocking me for the eradication effort. What a jumbled mess of notes I had chained myself to....
Fast forward a couple of weeks, and it was as if it had taken my brain that long to "decode" the message in the bottle. Something told me to try it again. Well, I did, and I absolutely love it now, go figure.
Granted, the harsh (understatement) opening is still a mess which will keep most buyers away, and guarantee the rarity of this fragrance when you are out and about (done by design? Brilliant.). However, this initial assault on the senses mellows in about 2-5 minutes, and the masterful drydown begins.
The coffee does not seem to take center-stage, but it is rather a lavender-lined trail leading down to a pond of Caramel. As I sit by the pond sipping an iced-mocha, a warm vanilla breeze swirls the spiced scent of the forest around me. Honey, Cedar, Amber, Mint, Bark, Sap, Roasted Marshmallows..... you name it, it's in there. A very comforting vibe this juice has, with just enough spice to keep it "manly".
Only for those who know how to wear a fragrance: anything more than one spray, and you have entered people-repellant territory. You will also overwhelm yourself, and the only escape at this point in time, is time itself....or molten lava. This stuff is STRONG.
A mature scent for professional, or casual use, but be lighter on the trigger for hot weather or close quarters should you dare to wear it in such environments.
One complex masterpiece of a fragrance.Truly a journey, and I am glad I had a return ticket.
4.3/5
I've tried this one a few tines, along with Havane, Malt, Coffee, and Taste of Fragrance. I'm still not sure if I want a bottle of this one but I do think it passes the uniqueness test, so to speak. I wore it the other day and noticed a "clean" smoke/musk type quality that I enjoyed, and the tar note didn't seem too strong (I used very little). There was also a sort of subdued mint that I also liked. Beyond that a gourmand accord struggles to become dominant. Eventually it's quite a nice gourmand though not everyone wants to deal with the tar note. It may be that you should avoid this one if you are going to spray to the chest or neck and just sit around for most of the day, so if you found it too strong, you might want to try again on a cool day when you know you'll be doing a lot of walking. If you don't want the tar note you can go with others, such as Rochas Man or Cotton Club for Men, but at least "artistically" I think this one deserves some credit.
I bought this because I was intrigued by the foody openings, caramel, vanilla, coffee, tonka bean etc, and the few people I asked to rate the tester all loved it. My mistake was that the people whose opinions I asked all had incredibly sweet tooths and weight problems. I quickly learned my mistake.
Top smelled like sweet urine. Yeah, definitely unpleasant; however, the rest smells very sweet, almost sickly, not just quite though. Pretty good, 7/10 only because the first hour
Without knowing the brand when sampling this I got one of those "Yeah..!" moments. Because the opening was almost the exact same as some incense sticks i have. Rain Forest by Satya. It's heavy on patchouli with some sweetness extract. Anyway, after a while the gourmandish notes takes over and i'm left with a picture of a bong head having the munchies. This is a fragrance I would expect more to find in a new-age boutique
I love this one from beginning until end but I know many people find the top of this slightly off-putting. My advice try it few more times on your skin and you might be surprised.
A*Men at the top is slightly harsh with its "rubbery" smell although it goes away quickly in my 2012 juice however I heard some people claim that this accord sticks around longer in older juice.
After about 1 hour it changes into an amazing semi sweet, smooth, rich and delicious smell which reminds me of caramel and chocolate brownie with a glass of honeyed milk. To me it's pretty linear as I get this vibe until the end which is a good thing as I love it.
Although I don't get the beast mode performance it projects very well and sticks on my skin for about 12 hours which is excellent. This is definitely a cold weather frag and perfect for nights out.
First 1-3 hours (depending on skin, mine... about an hour and a half) absolute desperation cologne, PLEASE, LOOK, HERE I'M IN THE ROOM !!!!!!!!!!111111
Sorry. Words cannot convey the complete inappropriateness of this scent's initial aroma. Too much. Get a room. PDAs. Trying too hard. Sickly sweet, cotton-candy, caramel, with a sharp, acetone/nail polish remover punch of sillage... seriously? Horrors. But I've probably sprayed myself half a dozen times now (on three separate occasions) and finally, I've discovered why...
Strike me down, the drydown is great! I get lime with light floral, maybe something amber-y/musky, with obviously that caramel sweetness aftertaste, but it's good now that it mellowed out! For me, the first impression is borderline intolerable. Darn. Makes the drydown not worth it.
At first it smelled like Angel (for women) - WAY too much of a sweet, cotton-candy note (ethyl malthol, I have learned). Then it dried down to, yes, I perceive it now, caramel. But unless you're an apple at an autumn fair, why on earth would you want to smell like this?
But then, I'm 56. I never know any of the guest hosts on Saturday Night Live nor the special musical guests anymore. This is for guys who get something I just don't get. I'm clearly not in this product's intended target demographic.
But, FHEW. I don't like it.
(My wife had a curious look on her face when she sniffed... "Cinnamon, maybe?" But she's not a fan, either. So it's O-U-T.)
------
Update: I could still smell traces of this stuff on my fingertips 24 hours later! Gahhh!
Dashing, heroic, poetic and divine. One the greatest, strongest scents I have ever worn. Women love this scent, too. It is very bold, and an extremely whacky scent to make it into the mainstream, but I adore it.
Well this is my signature scent <3 before i decided to buy this one about a year ago ,i got confuse about this one ,this is an 'either you Love it or you Hate it' and finally i tried it after blind-buy ,and it begins ......... For the first time i swear it totally will make you a little bit dizzy ,but in a minute you'll feel so comfort and you'll be addict to smell it ,i always wear this one to go to school ,yeah right SCHOOL ,because i'm still in senior high school in indonesia
Nice long lasting caramel scent, but it make me angry
its a sexy fragrance for the winter, its a real beast if you spray too much it will give you a headache its a bit pricey but you can say it's worth it. overall i give it a 7,5
Would you believe...Someone actually swapped a new bottle of Burberry Original (3.3) from me today for a brand new Thierry Mugler A*Men(3.4)...Must be my Lucky day!
This is an acquired taste. I don't know a single person who liked red wine the first time they bought it. I hated this cologne for years. I would never buy it at the store because the opening was so harsh. I decided to order it online one day after really getting into fragrances and still, could not get past the tar note. It disgusted me. I sprayed a little on my arm here and then when I was hanging out at home. Little by little I started to change my mind and now I absolutely love it. Evening the harsh opening has become appealing. And the dry down is amazing!!! Suggestion: Spray it at least 30 minutes before leaving the house. Most people are going to hate the opening but they'll love the dry down.
just got the sample, two days ago....well, I dont have ANYTHING that is remotely as sweet as this. I have a Rochas frag that comes close. But this is like wearing candy.
Im getting the feeling that I will have to be in a very "fuck it all" kind of mood to wear this..but Im game, because Im something of a sucker for sweet scents.
I like this. And as always, I buy, love and collect fragrances that smell good and dont have to be applied with 20 sprays. Two nice blasts of this, will last the whole day.
but its a keeper, no doubt. Smells like melted caramel, with a few shots of fruit juice.
I have this!
..... Well, I bought it for my Mr.
I know this isn't a proper review, I'm no expert on Male Fragrance but, from a female perspective, this smell is ORGASMIC.
It's allll of Angel's magic, with added spicy chocolate, coffee and brown sugar.... I can't do it justice in words. I prefer it to my own Angel for women because it's "Darker" :D.
I can't decide between this and Le Male now! Le Male might still be ahead by a little bit... But when my Mr has either on I go crazy for him, could just lay on him and smell him for hours! <3
Oh, I am a terrible person, yes I am. I already have Angel, a dramatic sweetness-bomb, and yet I could not help myself but to get this gem as well. Yes, it is another love it or hate it fragrance, and I found myself in the former group after the first sniff.
The dark coffee, the slight coolness of mint and lavender, the deep patchouli and - probably my favourite - the sticky caramel just makes it so good to smell. Probably a bigger love than Angel.
Nice!!!
What can i say? Ok, i was wrong. Dark chocolate, spices. It's good, very good and addictive...
Just got this today and I was warned its very strong and different so be prepared.I went looking for something close to Chanel Allure Sport which I LOVE. The first whiff and I thought mmmm I like. Then I smelled A*Men Pure Havane and said I love this I will take this one..I started smelling other scents still looking for a Chanel match and I kept on smelling the A*men and thought I really don't like it cos the smell went all funny. 20 minutes later and I smelled it again and I fell inlove wow....coffee, vanilla, caramel heaven I will wear this all the time summer, winter I don't care Fantastic. Now I have 4 favourites Chanel Sport, Gaultier2,Calvin Klein Escape..yes I still love it and now A*men
HAHAHA!!!
I love Angel. It works well with my skin, and my boyfriend likes it. So I was anxious for him to try A*men. We made a special trip to Sephora for him to try it before we made a purchase.
WOW! It smelled TERRIBLE on him. It smelled like stale cigarette smoke in an old car with milky baby vomit with air freshner trying to cover it up.
I couldn't believe it that it could smell so bad on him, so I tried it on myself.
And on me, it smelled very nice!
The stale cigarette smoke note on him was a semi-sweet tobacco note on me. The coriander has a prominent place on my skin, so I am kind of smokey and spicy at the same time.
The dry down on him was all tar and weirdness. The dry down on me was Angel with a tobacco/caramel note.
He couldn't believe this was the same scent that he tried.
I tried Viktor and Rolf's Flowerbomb on the other arm, and he liked A*Men on me MUCH better.
I would say to those who want to try this scent:
1. Try it before you buy it!
2. If you are a lady, don't be afraid to give this a shot!
3. Wait at least 20 minutes for this to try down before you make up your mind whether you like it.
4. Only use 1 spray for goodness sake, this stuff is STRONG!
As with Angel, it seems this is pretty much a divider of the masses.
I'm in the love category. I think this is a masterpeice fragrance.
The opening is vdery confusing and quite an assault on the senses, it's spicy and yes I get the unusual tar note that people have mentioned which probably comes from the strange mixture of the notes.
The opening has an underlying sweetness due to the 6 ro 7 really sweet notes in the heart and base.
The crazy assault doens't last too long though and after a bout 30 minutes it settles down quite nicely and is a good mixture of spicy and sweet (but still unusual).
The dry down is a complete 180 on the opening. This turns almost marshmallow sweet, I would say it's probably the sweetest fragrance marketed for men I've smelled (in the drydown).
I don't really detect any fruits or the coffee. It's just really a strange mix of spices, patchouli and heavy sweet notes.
Deffo a winner and and masterpeice. The longevity is incredible. Mugler does it again.
Very, Very strong, sweet, super long lasting.
In one word: THE BEAST.
Use in winter.
This is not your average frat boy cologne...
Not elegant or gentlemanly either. Nothing subtle about it.
It is Astonishing.
The fact that so many people own this is reassuring... I like knowing that a scent as whacked as A*men can find its way into the world of popular fragrances. It is proof that we are good for a challenge. Not sure we can stomach the heavy-on-the-cumin perfumes just yet, but we are not total scent prudes either.
The punchy opening is startling and addictive--
the warm spicy notes persist through much of the dry down. Later it settles into a slightly singed creme brulee smell -- just enough short of oppressively sweet to keep me wearing it (Pure Malt is oppressively sweet to my nose )... I do still wish some of the sharpness stayed prominent deeper into the life of the fragrance- the sweetness gets close enough to the edge that I don't wear A*men often because I don't want to get sick of it...
I love the crude opening but it is not for everyone (freaky with the patchouli)... I usually put it on about 20 minutes before venturing out... from 20 min to about an hour and a half those spicy notes are in a perfect place...
Definitely designed and marketed to a specific crowd (1 Million, Gucci Guilty Intense, The One, popped-collars, clubbing, top40, etc.) Cloying, caramel sweetness with a random assault of spices and coffee thrown on top; I get the sense that this was less of an artistic endeavor and simply one of marketing. I'd bet it was largely designed by a focus group or a computer program as the perfumer only seems to have one main line (this and the flankers) and the scent is just a mishmash of "stuff that's popular." To me, there's nothing unique or clever at work--it's basically Axe but with more volume.
With that said, everyone's taste is different, and there's a real warmth to these notes--which is why I could see it being very popular, especially to those who haven't yet explored slightly less-known or obscure fragrances. To me, it's tacky and tasteless--and profoundly nauseating. But, if it works for you, go for it.
But the last issue I have is its dominance--which is very telling of how and who it's marketed to. This stuff is brutal in projection and longevity and seems to be designed to overpower everyone else in the room. (The irony, of course, is that everyone and their mother wears this stuff.) Not only is there an artlessness in the construction, there's something very tacky about a fragrance that needs this much attention and demands that everyone takes note. When something is constructed for marketing to a target group rather than for the aesthetics of fragrance alone, I get it -- conformity sells. But when a fragrance is this belligerent, I can only read is as a giant FU to anyone in its presence. I think "inconsiderate" would be a more descriptive note than what's currently listed.
Ah, a*men thierry mugler knew what he was doing with that nose of his when he was putting this marvelous fragrance together. People complain and choose to pick at the one thing that doesn't sound pleasant in the list of ingredients. But that tar note is what gives it that confident daring edge and all the other ingredients blend and balance it all out so perfectly! A must have!
The best cologne ever in my opinion love this kind of fragrance very long lasting thank you Thierry for making this
Animale animale doesn't that smell nothing like this at all to my nose this have too much tar in it this is the type of Cologne that smell wired to me I can't pen point this I don't know what to think of this Cologne I like the drydown nice. Carmel note that I wish it was strong most of all I get the tar note doing the whole time its on my skin but I like this Cologne it's just take some time to get used to it stay on my jacket for day's but on my skin different story sometimes this can be a power house you gotta respect this Cologne and it's unique worth a try by the way not all woman's like this I don't think my girl like this but I do :--)
Kick ass perfume. Stays for around 18 hours on my skin and have beastly projection. Opening notes doesn't impress, but once it dries down, it smells completely different, which i like the most.
Well this is a very well known gourmand scent.. caramel and vanilla mostly, extremely sweet. Smells great indeed, but sometimes gets cloying. Lasting power, sillage and projection are great/huge. This is a must have for any collector. Thumbs up!
I bought a bottle of this last year because I was feeling nostalgic for the time when I was first given a bottle over a dozen years ago. The scent is so strong and unique that whenever I wear it I can't stop thinking about this trip I took to Las Vegas right after I received this. I thought I had grown out of this scent, but I think it turns out that I just had to fine tune where to wear it and make sure I wasn't spraying too much. I think this works better with one or two sprays applied away from the usual pulse points. I like it on my forearm, but perhaps it would work just as well on the lower chest or the back of the neck. I'm pushing into my mid-30s now and wondering if this scent might not be a little young for me. I've looked at Chanel Coromandel and Rochas Man as possible replacements, but I'm still on the hunt for a more refined version of this type of scent. I feel like I use this as a room spray more often than I use it as a personal fragrance.
What to say about this perfume, people are not already said? Oops, right at the start, a little apology, in fact, this is not a perfume, it is the embodiment of timeless creations that seemed to come from another world, even other galaxies, some Angel another world, another galaxy Alien! Truly sorry, we met 'in 2001, and then, we are just were the ace, even though I was already in a soft start to the sweet, spicy perfume, I even publicly admit here, buddy sold, but these were moments of recklessness, that will never happen again, I just can not imagine the shock when it appeared in 1996, I think shock is bordered on abstract notions of the essences of perfume, which as such is not had a rival, or in the announcement, the ok.A little with Issey Miyake L'Eau d'Issey Pour Homme, brought a small revolution in the world of perfume, the 90's, of course, Jean Paul Gaultier, La Male, but to both of them A * Men , acts as a tectonic shift, lucid, at times, unbearable, and then almost a virtual sweetness, so again flirting with all the known and unknown world of this good food, and then come back a little more lenient with the impact of lavender and mint, and avalanche, crazy dark styrax with coffee, which together with tobacco tonka outweighs the musk, which eventually lost the macho charm and character becomes musk in the 21st century, yet the fragrance seems linear, but this is not true, but it does not matter, this fragrant creations all their time telling some story, a pastry filled with a chocolate cake and coffee and a liqueur mint, metallic taste, soothing lavender juice, and the whole candy store in every outlet supply, stands at a Glade air freshener space of vanilla and of course that would be all round, on every table at an indian swabs musk, confectioner's usually somewhere on the Bosphorus! Perfume Mogul, passionate to the point, it is still not understood, arrogant to the end of borders, for which there are no barriers nor border, one of the last bastions of honor Designer, once so fashionable, and so debased today! I brought with me A * Men and went to the woods because I wished to live freely, to breathe deeply, and suck all the juice of life, and and his own, and eventually get rid of all, what is life, that I discovered at the time of death, I never lived!
I suggest anyone interested in this to put some on, try to get a sample if you can. I was a little iffy about this one, upon first sniff but we have to all remember that most fragrances will change, and I have heard so many good things about the dry down mine is no different. The opening will be strong for some, but give it a chance! It dries down to a softer, sweeter, non offensive scent that is very pleasing to you and those in your surroundings. I picked up a bottle yesterday for my birthday and though I wont sit here and say "I am now the biggest Thierry Mugler fan" I will say that I see what the hype is all about, its a very nice, classy scent if worn properly. By that I mean I would wear this for a nice night out, or on colder weather and take it easy on the trigger! 1-2 sprays on the neck max, and a little tiny spray on each wrist, I would not do more than 4 on this one!
Finally after much anticipation I got to try this cologne today.
Now this is truly one foul f**king disgusting Frankenstein abomination of a creation.
If you were to take a freshly asphalted road, cover an area in baby powder, a little caramel and then vomit on top of it that is as close to this scent as I feel you could get. I'm still feeling I'll atm after smelling this over an hour ago
Okay, when I first tried thi I was curious about the hype and when I first wore it I was suprised as I didn't get the repulsive tar note that many reviewers noted. I like this frag and it is good for going out. I had women literally putting their noses in my chest and I am by no means a pimp. It is not my fave but is very nice, not quite worth the hype in my opinion but I get why this frag is so praised by many.
The first time I tried it, I hated it. I got very nauseated and had to wash it off, after tolerating it for an hour or two. But I re-tried the fragrance last year and now, I love it. Not as good as Pure Malt, but definitely very close.
The opening is so unique and weird, but there is something about it I am attracted to. Imagine pouring tar into a bowl, along with fresh black coffee and burnt coffee beans, some york peppermint patties and patchouli. And then you burnt it all over again. It’s a very harsh opening, but I love it. And in my opinion, the tar note is there through out the fragrance, even in the dry down. It just becomes lighter. In the middle, I get just a whole bunch of sweet honey, and a little bit of creaminess. Then, it quickly becomes super sweet, and it smells like a Chocolate Caramel Cake with a side of Sugar Cookies, Brownies and Coffee. I don’t get any vanilla out if it. It is definitely a darker sweet scent. I love this scent, because it is SO unique and just like with Le Male, I could tell exactly what someone was wearing, in a split second if they were wearing Angel Men.
My Favorite Fragrance and in my top10 list. make sure to try it on ur skin first and then buy it.
9/10
This is one of a kind. Oriental spicy. On this one you have a blast of chocolate, vanilla, toffee. I don't get green notes on this one. It has a tar note, noticeable during the first hour. With time, you'll start to enjoy it even if it smells harsh at first.
A Men makes a statement as if you are the boss. You will be the odd man among the crowd. It does not work with every kind of skin. If you are a shy or reserved person, you probably won't want to wear this in public. But if you do it in private for your own amusement, you have my consideration since this is a great fragrance. Every man should give this one a try. If you have a sweet tooth, you may want to check this out...
PS: I prefer this one over JPG Le male
Rating (0/10): 7
The Best Fragrance hands down.
Please leave this beast as it is Thierry, don't mess with it you too!
I'm not a fan of the tar scent, but the chocolate is quite pleasant.
My girl luv this stuff! :-)
I bought this fragrance when I knew little to absolutely nothing about fragrances back when it first hit the market. It was different, I liked it and bought it. Many years later, although I have yet to re-purchase A*Men TH, this fragrance is still a winner to my nose.
Sorry I absolutely hate it, the opening notes are disgusting and as someone else stated almost turned my stomach. Come on what is all the hype about? It's horrible, and annoyingly lasts all day, I will say it gets better throughout the day, but the damage is done on the opening spray, yuk
First few times i tried this one i hated it. The tar note in the opening was too much for me. I just recently tested it out again on my skin and the opening wasn't as bad but after the first 20 minutes I fell in love with it. One of the best drydowns ever. I'll spray this on my hand and be tempted to eat my hand lol. It smells that good. This cologne is a chocolate lovers dream come true. Plus projection is a bomb and it has the best longevity of any designer frag. i've tried. If you don't like this one at first keep trying it. Also its super potent so I wouldn't go more than 2-3 sprays with this one and Winter and Fall ONLY. It can be worn day or night but not in the heat and avoid school or work with this one unless your only doing 1 spray.
I have Pure Malt and love it but the longevity and projection of Amen wins hands down. One of the best winter frags you can find. HIghly recommend.
I cannot wear this. The opening and mid notes will literally turn my stomach and make me feel sick. The drydown is absolute gold though, the patchouli really comes out and gives this almost silly scent some class.
The coffee and tar note don't go we'll together for me and it turns into a huge cloying mess.
I'm trying to be as objective as possible but this is one of the few scents that I have such an extreme reaction to.
A+ projection and longevity.
If you want to stand out from the crowd I would definitely suggest this. This is for men, party boys do not bother. The sweet notes would juxtapose nicely on a masculine gentlemen.
When I have it on for the first 30 minutes, sometimes the first hour, I dislike it. The reason is because of this unpleasant burnt rubber/tar smell mixed with bitter coffee, mint, and patchouli.
Thankfully, the burnt rubber/tar smell fades away, leaving a now pleasant scent of sweet coffee, caramel, honey, patchouli, spicy notes, and faint minty note. At this point, I like it. I suppose you could say it's one of those like/dislike (or love/hate) kind of fragrances.
BEAST must have for collection...!!!
Let me tell you how it realy smells its smells like catholic church insense thats how it realy smells like. It smells creapy
opens with burnt rubber, burnt coffee, burnt sugar. After 1h it becomes a sweet vanilla scent with strong patchouli smell. Patchouli is still very strong in the final dry-down, which is kinda like Azzaro Visit without the woods. Overall ok fragrance.
This is one you love or hate. I had it and most women did not like the scent. I must say thumbs down on this one.
I have avoided this one like the plague since it's release - patchouli, caramel, and milk are 3 notes I can't stand. Sadly, someone bought this for DH and it smells like rancid milk, sickly sweet caramel and sweat. DH gave it to his brother, and whilst I still get the rancid milk vibe when he comes over, at least I don't have to put up with it in my home long term.
On my skin this is Lolita Lempicka au Masculin with a bomb of lavender upfront. It is gourmand, but more of a savory gourmand on me. The lavender/coriander combination is giving it a sourness that mixed with all the other sweetness is coming off as roast pork with a balsamic reduction. AND YET, I can't stop sniffing it, and not because I am hungry. I would like to smell this on a man, mixed with a natural manly muskiness, I think it would be deliciously sexy. There is less balsamic sourness on the drydown, and starts to smell like a good Malbec tastes. Gourmand in a way that gets me feeling very hedonistic and glutinous. Yes, hedonistic. Makes me ravenous for indulgence. A very clear image of a spectacular mountain hotel on a winter night with a bottle of my favorite Malbec and the man that smells like this, and you know, indulging in all that, wink wink.
Well...After reading some really great reviews and opinions, omg its perfect, omg its unique, omg its the best scent,i went to my local store and tried this one.I was expecting something that would leave me nothing less than astonished...When i smelled this on ny arm i felt like throwing up...It smelled like public toilets.I was like ok ive been warned for its harsh opening and waited...Nothing really changed.I cant smell chocolate, caramel, cofee NOTHING.Only a bad smell best described as an uncleaned toitet...And imagine i was sooooo hyped frm the reviews, that i was gonna blind buy it...Thank god i did not.I ve smelled tons of frags and that one is the worst...The only good thing(which is even worse for me)its the longetivity.I couldn't wait to get home and wash my arm...Im not gonna even put a grade on this one as i usually do...
Angel Men could be the modern blueprint of sweet, gourmand fragrances. Could be a great example why fragrances should not have gender - this is NOT masculine, nor feminine at all.
About the scent itself:
I'm a beginner perfume enthusiast, but here is my opinion. Upon applying, you get kicked in the nose because of that "harsh" tar note blended well into the coffee and caramel (maybe chocolate, but it has a bigger role in the heart). Some green notes also come out and say hi (guess it is the patchouli). Chances are high that you will HATE this opening. Even I, an Angel Men addict find it disgusting sometimes.
But stay strong, after a while, say, 15-30 minutes, something happens, something dies, and the scent becomes gourmand lover's galore! It is REALLY reminiscent of a pastry bakery, Starbucks, whatever, in a good way for sure. I often get a "Milky Way" vibe too.
And this vibe lingers for a whole day.
If you don't like chocolate/coffee/caramel I highly recommend ignoring this fragrance. It is LEGENDARY, for sure, but mostly people with sweet tooth appreciate it.
Longevity: 10/10. If you are wearing A*Men in the morning, you're going to wear it in the evening too. If you apply it on your clothes, you will smell the remains of the scent days later on them.
Projection, sillage: 10/10. I applied 2 (!) sprays, one on the neck, the other on the back of the neck, and I'm choking. Very potent stuff, just look at the "sillage" ratings above...it DOES fill an entire room (at least mine). A*Men presents a new level of projection. Really, I ain't hyping this juice.
Versatility: 4/10. Kind of limited to cold weather. Wearing it in the warm weather could be suicidal.
Compliment factor, overall smell: 8/10. Outstanding, but it is just too much sometimes. Compliments: ladies dig it big time.
Age group: can't really define.
Blindbuy: DON'T
Wonderful.
God people there is only one way to put it: on me it smells like vagina. I love angel and alien, I'm a lady, I was trying to get my husband to like this. But after an hour all I or he could smell was vag and something very much like angel. Chacolate, dessert, funk and vagina. It makes me feel very odd to see so many people disliking this smell. Though I didn't exactly like it myself.
a magnificent journey offered by Thierry Mugler. Do not expect anything mainstream from him, since he'll trolling you around
first, He sent you the harsh tar notes that might turn you off or even throw you out of the game as soon as possible. its harsh and offensive to some people, makes some people decide to pass A*Men
but if you manage (or even enjoying those very first few minutes of tar torture), a gourmand heaven awaits. the pleasure is like having been tortured by femme fatale wearing tight latex suits giving some slash from her lash, after ended up in agony of pain, she'll sent you to heaven fulfilled with nymphs (Ok, I might exaggerate it a bit). so the point is, if you can manage to ignore the very first 10 minutes, you'll get the caramel-coco combo which is just beautiful
the longevity and projection of A*Men is a legend, so go easy on spray or you'll be as cloying as spilled caramel cakes. and one more, some people said its smells synthetic. yes, it does. it smells heavenly synthetic, and I prefer a beautiful synthetic rather than naturally awful
Not really a fan of this one not because it's bad or something but it's just not my thing. The opening for me is horrible with that tar note and the drydown is too sweet and too bitter for me. I would recommend this as a try. If you enjoy this fragrance this can become one of your favorites but if you don't like it you will probably hate it
How embarrassing!!! I originally hated on this fragrance...bashing the 'tar note' blah blah blah
Then I read someone on here saying u gotta try it like 10 times so I did.......gourmand heaven ..what can I say I was wrong, use sparingly and give it chance...if u love gourmands this is a must for your collection!
Coffee and caramel. Extremely gourmand. It is very much the same type of scent as Angel. Rather strong as well. Personally I am not fond of gourmand scents, and for that reason I do not really appreciate this scent.
A*men really is one of a kind. I would describe this as coffee latte with caramel, a pleasant sweet toffee smell, very much inviting and captivating.
Its a shame i dont wear this more...
Put it on this morning and man i almost forgot how great it smells.
So complex....
Love this perfume... truely exotic... Finding the right occasion is the key since its very strong with a great projection...
I use it in combination with Boss in Motion / Desire Red ar at times with a bit of Aqua di-gio... from what i hear the effects are truely mersmerizing...
Def Not for suited to be worn at suttle work places; also try spraying it atleast 1/2 hour before picking your girl friend or someone speccial.. just don't spray just before stepping out of the car
Don't know if i got an old bottle or what. I still wore it a few times but it didn't get any better. had to give it away to my nephew. Not sure if he likes it either. My only bad blind buy.

and the whole bakery with some bottles of pest killers
lying in the corner some with their lids open yes yes yes !!!!!! not that im saying that this EDT is bad or sick but this is just exactly what my nose detects the Pest note. rest once the top is gone and that pest smell, though i really enjoy the tar,i seem to rather enjoy the base of this EDT, i have also noticed this works well when you sweat it out just does specially after a hot session of dancing this shines,i don't think this is your everyday scent but it has to be sniffed for sure as its a star in its own right, though i must admit when i smelled it for the first time in the store i bought it without a second thought i still admire it for its uniqueness and it being hell different than any other pour homme i have smelt, id be keeping this bad boy for it being so different, not a bad scent at all but it takes a super-hero to wear this and an equally heroic occasion i must say, very very very long lasting. It sure is a try before you buy my dear fragnatics
6*/10*
This is the second "hate it or love it" cologne I have tried (the first being Kouros [reformulated] - which I loved). This is just awful. It's overwhelming, it's nauseating, cloying, immensely sweet, putrid garbage.
The longevity and projection are immense, but I can't ever see myself liking this. Do not blind buy this!
Smells like a box of Quality Street chocolates that's been left to bake in the sun all day mixed with the smell of the monkey exhibit at the zoo.
Blah.
I great scent if you can get pass the opening. It is very strong. The dry down is total bliss.
This is my #1 fragrance.
this fragrance is crazy!! smells like choco ice cream i love it! :) well done! :)
longevity:1 day
Projection:12+ hrs
Season:fall & winter
rate:10/10
Loud, Louder, Loudest!
Sweet, Sweeter, Sweetest!
Yuck, Yuckier, Yuckiest!
This is about the best way I can describe this Off putting fragrance.
Can't find one note about this cologne that would warrant me liking this one. I know it sells, and is loved by millions, minus one.
This isnt' even a candidate for making my list, unless you are talking about getting rid of it. I simply can not understand how one would want to smell like this.
Angels are good, heavenly things, and to me unfortunately this is not one of them
A masterpiece! Mugler has really done it with this one. Many people don't like the top note. but i think it smells very good. Projection and Longevity are out of this world! you don't want to mess with this one. The first time i wore this i was at a party, and i came home very late. When i woke up My brother told why i put on Cologne so early. It will last till the next morning,it doesn't matter if you take a shower you will smell this. Definitely it is in my top 5.
After reading all the hype on this fragrance I was so excited to try it I decided to grab a couple sample sprayers while I saved up for a full bottle. I'm glad I did the samples first.
From first spray I immediately smelled sweet caramel which was inviting. But then this off-putting note came through, and lingered throughout the entire time. I can't describe the bothersome note. I know it seems familiar, almost like something burnt. Maybe if you put some carmels in a frying pan and left them to burn, that would best describe it. I developed a headache rather quickly, and within an hour it actually had me feeling nauseous. But I stuck through it, hearing about this lovely drydown. Sadly it never came. Honey and vanilla started coming through, but that nauseating note stuck around which turned me off. 12 hours later I had to shower to get the scent off.
This stuff is powerful and lingers forever. 24 hours later I still smell it on my bracelet I wore when I applied it. So for people who love this scent, you sure get a good bang for your buck. One spray lasts what seems to be forever.
The opening smells very similar to waterpipe-tobacco with cola flavor. Im surprised noone else have got that from it.
In the drydown, the caramel/chocolate/coffee smell appears.
But the main accord all the way through is waterpipe. That makes sense, according to the tar-note everyone is talking about.
I like it, but I think it's a bit too sweet, and it has no wow-factor to me.
starbucks in a bottle...
perfect fragrance for the winter day time
A piece of art can be very divisive. It is there to provoke a reaction, for example Damien Hirst, some think his work is genius and pay millions to acquire it. others think he is taking the piss, but in all cases he provokes an emotional reaction and debate, which I believe is the purpose of art. So too does A Men. As we can see from previous comments, some love it others hate it, but it provokes and necessitiates a reaction. Mine, well I love it. I think it is a masterpiece of modern perfumery, however I can see how others find it offensive, too sweet and sickly, overpowering everyting else in the room in which it resides (apart from Montale's Black Aoud). It is not for everyone, hell, even my wife finds it overbearing and too dominant and does not like me wearing it (she suffers in silence when I wear it, almost embarrased when we go out, as I bask in its glorious chocolatey/caramel goodness). For those that like gourmandy fragrances with a touch of sweet spicyness, this is a must for your wardrobe. For those that like the attention, be it good or bad, then this is a must for your collection. Definitely not a blind buy fragrance, you need to try it on your skin first. Projection is a beast, longevity too. In my humble opinion, simply wonderful
The opening is just eugh.... It's really nauseating. But when it dry smell really good.
What can be said that hasnt already been reflected somewhere here. I have vast experience with fragrance and certainly recognize a quality product when i encounter it. In my opinion, A*Men is is nothing more than a production of "hype". A strong advertising campaign is honestly all this juice has going for it. In all fairness, this juice truly smells like it is the product of all these ingredients squished and squashed and forced through a metal collander without regard to all the nastiness and garbage collected along the way. It's obnoxious and offensive... nothing clever or even remotely interesting. Just one great big mess of jumbled up funk... Please spend your hard earned dollars on something that you will enjoy at first sniff and stop trying to force this horror on your delicate olfactory sensibility. There are many many fragrances that are much better smelling and certainly not something you have to falsely convince yourself of... that's not what a fragrance should be.
Out of all my fragrances, I would have to say I have gotten the most compliments on the original A*Men. More so than Pure Malt, JPG, L'instant EDP for the Fall/Winter.
Many women love this stuff. The secret to getting compliments on this fragrance is easy:
- 3 sprays max
- Don't spray and walk out the door. Spray and let it dry down properly first. The drydown is the best part of this fragrance IMO. I don't mind the opening notes BTW
- Fall/winter ONLY - should be fairly cool outside to pull this off.
I bought this cologne a few weeks ago. It's has a definite projection. I think it has a wierd scent which most woman found to be obnoxious. I stopped wearing it!
This perfume is like that kind of movie that have a bad start and you don't want to watch anymore..but something is telling you that you should go further with it ..and then you realize that you are addicted to it:)
Very sweet-strong at the begining..but the sweetness goes away and then it is oau ! Long lasting and enourmous sillage .
I blind bought this after finding it at a greatly reduced price. I think this cologne and Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue are the best examples I can give for why scents shouldn't have genders. The women's version of this scent is wonderfully complex and grounded greatly by the amount of patchouli in it. The men's version is like wearing cotton candy around your neck. It's so sweet and lacks the groundedness that comes with the heavier patchouli found in the women's version. I wear this scent but sparingly, for fear that I'd get a cavity and diabetes from too much exposure.
I can totally understand this becoming iconic, its a great powerful scent but it is strong and mega sweet, it smells like youve been smeared in caramel syrup lol. After 2-3 hrs it was getting to me and i didnt want to smell it anymore. As a scent its amazing but couldnt hack it for long, just too much.
I love the tar and patchouli notes (a lot of people have a hard time liking these)...
Over all i like it a lot, I'm just having a hard time finding where this cologne is going to come into play for me. Ive always had a hard time with gourmand scents, but i do enjoy this. I know when it starts getting really cold around here it will get more use...
I blind bought this one in 100ml after seeing how many yotube
perfume reviewers love it.
At first all I was getting from this is cocoa butter and questioned if
this was what I want to smell like. After 3 or 4 wearings something
magic happened, I started getting nag champa and caramel and fell
in love and definately am glad I purchased.
I have sprayed this one on some cardboard just to test and I only
get the opening which is not as bad to me as most say but doesn't
do the basenotes any justice.
long story short, wtih this one try wearing at least 4 times if you
don't like at first on your skin and it might just grow on you like it
did for me.

Just like you, Kain, I miss the old formulation. The new one is merely a ghost of its former self. It's a genuine shame.
Like many others here, when I first sprayed this on (on more than one occasion) I just didn't like it. Just the opening alone wasn't doing it for me. I said to myself there's gotta to be something more to this. And..... THERE IS! I have to say that this is definately a cologne that one can grow to love. The drydown is without question the highlight of this fragrance. What starts off as an extremely herbal (almost tar like), slightly minty, slightly citrus opening smooths down to an absolute seductive base with notes of honey, chocolate, coffee and woods. Add a little bit of florals in there and you have arguably the best winter/fall fragrance you can find. This is not for the faint of heart (MONSTER projection and longevity) and definately not one you would want to wear to the office. Definatley more for a night out/special occasion, clubbing or dating, particularly on a cold fall/winter night. There's just not a scent out there that could do a better job. For purpose alone I give this one an A+. Definatley one to check out.
For men, but id wear it anyways what a power house
Amen to that.
It's quite funny that I wrote reviews about the flankers and I didn't do it for the original!
But I doesn't matter! here it is.
This fragrance is one of those juices that have so many lovers and so many haters!
I'm one of the big fans of this juice because it's quiet different from those generic juices out there.
The opening is very sharp and strong patchouli note surrounded with very sweet and warm caramel note and some chocolaty smell in the background.
I didn't get coffee that much! it's more caramel.
The opening is in your face and you may hate it at first whiff! so don't judge about the scent just by the opening.
In the mid the smell settled down, but did not change that much. so you have still that strong sweet caramel smell mixed with patchouli but a little weaker.
In the base the sweet caramel scent is weak in the background and you can easily smell patchouli that have a wet feeling.
Projection and longevity is insane!
Please don't use it in high heat and don't spray more than three!
This advise is for those guys that have the original and old formula!
The new ones are watered down and doesn't have great projection and longevity like the old ones!

TOP OF THE TOP!
Simply put this is one of the best scents out there
you should never spray this stuff on your cloth or hair because the tar note will last much longer on it ..
to get past the tar note: spray it on your clothes at night so when you wake up the tar note will begone
I recently was told about this cologne by a friend of mine. Last week I purshased the cologne and found the spray to be a bit defective. Nevertheless, I got it to work after playing with it for a few minutes. I can't say it is a great scent. It really wears off quickly so I won't buy it again. I think there are much better colognes out there than this one.
I've tried this on various separate occasions, sometimes i get a very nice harmonic gourmand smell something reminiscent of a tootsie roll. But unfortunately i've also had times where the tar note is just TOO much to overcome and ruins it for me. Definitely a fragrance you want to sample before you buy, to be on the safe side. Other than that, it is a projection animal, and longevity beast (i've tried to scrub, wash, erase with alcohol on various occasions and it still lingers).
fantastic perfume; for me the best from them all; so many ingredients so well combined; gets you to another dimension; i love it
This is by far the most amazing fragrance I've ever tried.
The opening is harsh, but not nauseating at all. It's the opening that makes the "A*men statement" due which many people judge this gem way too quickly. It punches you in the face with that weird and very unique minty tar. I think it's propably the best part of the fragrance, so unique and so daring. During this phase A*men is a true sillage monster.
Then we get to the middle notes which are all about chocolate. It's very very very gentle and sweet; not offensive at all. I dont really smell caramel more like milk chocolate that got burned a little. The middle notes kind of apologize the harshness of the opening. Sillage is huge, but not like Joop! Homme.
In the very end the milk chocolate gains a hint of coffee. It's not that sweet capuccino coffee that we can find in Rochas Man, but more like very dry just grinded coffee beans: bitter. This is the most sensual part, very addictive and mysterious; like dark chocolate.
Sillage is beyond average, but the longevity, however, on my skin is only 8-10 hours. It's not bad at all but people call this the +24h monster. I disagree.
It somehow reminds me of my childhood, A*men smells like happiness. It makes me think of carnivals and amusement parks, chocolate goods, warmth. Just amazing. A timeless classic.
Ah..i love this one! sweet and very sexy! it doesnt fit on a day time, except u work in a full air-conditioned room :) I LOVE THIS FRAGRANCE!
Absolutely delicious... Blind bought it and I'm very pleased that I did. I get better projection than with any other fragrance (Inc. Le male, joop); for example i put on 1 spray and my brother said he could smell it 10m away, outside!! Plus I seem to get no harsh notes, only soft cocoa butter and caramel. I'm in love and have found my new signature scent. This strangely reminds me of Dior Homme actually...
The first time I smelt it I didn't enjoy it, but as time passed on I came to appreciate it and even enjoy it. I'm still getting used to the spicy opening, but I absolutely love the sweet dry-down notes. Though I do adore this cologne, it's definitely a fragrance for someone has to truly appreciate before they purchase it.
What I think of this fragrance is that it's a very warm spicy-sweet smell, very appropriate for autumn and winter wear. It's a masculine scent to me, but I can see women wearing this as well. It's a fragrance that stands out among others. Anyone who enjoys sweeter smells will enjoy this cologne.
I think Thierry Mugler made this cologne to follow a sort of "motif". To me, the harshness represents the mortal realm, humans dwell in an enviornment of oppression and cruel realities. As time passes the scent sweetens, symbolizing the transcendence of earthly, mortal and human to the divine, bliss and angelic(hence the name). Just a little wild thought.
9.5/10
Hated it at first, but I knew there was something to it. Later on, I bought it without trying it again and loved it. The opening is harsh, but it turns into something amazing.
Take it from me, when trying this, DON'T spray it in the same spot twice, it really will give you a headache.
Very harsh, super sweet and synthetic.
Couldn't wear this...
One of the best gourmands..lasting alongggg time..if you make it past that HARSH opening tar note..the dry down is similar to givenchy play intense..sweet and warm... lol But again the obstacle..making it passed that awful tar blast in the begining? Ehhhh.....
it is unique!
Lasting forever and beast projection on my skin. But i dont like the smell at all. This is love or hate fragrance. For my nose pure havane is much2 better.
Just blind bought this based on reviews and the fact that I love coffee, harsh cologne and brutal projection. Also I live in hot tropical Australia, it's nearly summer (though with cold nights I'll grant) and I'm only 17. Tempt fate
This combination of myriad notes smells extraordinarily like incense. That caramel that comes out in the middle note is unbelievable. I also smell honey and a heavy woodsy note. That's probably where the incense impression comes from. I would wear this though, personally. I like to wear colognes and perfumes and this almost beats Emporio Armani Diamonds for Men. I would layer this with Burberry the Beat to add a sharp and feminine edge to the scent.
P.s. it takes a long time for the milk to be there... and I don't smell coffee at all. I must be weird - I only get the green and woodsy notes...
I wear this on every occasion possible (mainly in Fall and Winter) and on occasions where I just want to smell it for myself. I love everything about this fragrance. This has been in my collection for the last 3 years and will forever be...like true love :)
Haters of this fragrance, here is some advice: Take it easy on the sprays! Start with small ammounts (e.g. 1-2 sprays MAX). Top notes of this are harsh (e.g. the tar note), this note is love or hate, but if you can wait it out the dry down is amazing on this.
If you feel like you absolutely cannot handle the opening, but like the dry down, try Pure Havane or Pure Malt (heck, even pure chilli/taste of fragrance). Maybe even check out Angel for women, its very similar, without the harsh opening.
If you just hate gourmands, run along...You are looking at the king of gourmands.
1996??? I just smelled this today for the first time and its soooo amazing. Definitely adding this to my collection this week. 10/10
I have nothing significant to add that hasn't already been said. I did forget how incredible A* Men is, though - hadn't tried it in years. It is one of a kind.
I love this fragrance!
The first whip is a bit challenging with its peppermint and tar. They give away a harsh opening, similar to that of a kitchen appliance caught on fire.
But then (after 10 or so minutes) the magic happens...
At the club the patchouli comes alive and produces a manly manly smell, smoothed over by chocolate. You start feeling good about yourself, it is very sexy. You dance with girls, they adore you. When the morning comes, you get a coffee shop smell. So you can say, the girl won who smelled the coffee in the morning;)
Wearing this fragrance is an experience.
The opening hits you in the face and sobers you up. The middle is seductive, intimate and you kind-of loose your mind. The consequence (dry-down) is closer to the skin, addictive and provides you with entertainment (if you know what i mean?).
My advice:
This is a great clubbing scent, seductive, pleasant and with character. Respect it and it will not backfire. Use only 1-2 sprays and you are well set for the day. Spray on skin, let it dry for a few seconds, then put on clothes. Do not spray directly on clothes! Do not use in humid, hot weather (you quickly loose most of the notes and are left with sticky-sweet vanilla-coffee). Do not wear in mind-challenging professions (it will not let you concentrate on work, but on your female colleague's you-know-what)
I had once tried A*Men many years ago and I could not stand it. Few weeks ago, I gave it another shot. I did not like it the first time, but you have to be a little patient and persistent, and then it grows on you. As mentioned by other members, you have to try it a couple of times to see if you have the palate (yes, I mean the sense of taste!!) for it. My recommendation: try it atleast three different days, and if you start enjoying A*Men spend few days to get the right quantity to spray on (it will vary for each person's).
This is a very sexy scent when worn correctly...sadly the majority of men when wearing any fragrance put far too much on; use an after-shave as a scent or fragrance and judge how a fragrance smells after picking up the tester bottle and sniffing it...I mean, come on, do you really know whose nose was there before yours ?!?! haha
With this scent, less is more...or rather when used correctly. When not worn the right way, it is easy to see how people can come to the conclusion that it is sickly sweet and when worn correctly, the dimensions of this fragrance are free to develop into one of the sexiest fragrances ever.
One of the longest lasting EDTs I have come across, - A true masterpiece.
One of my all time favorite. It's so heavenly I can't even describe it. It always puts me in a great mood. However, I'm a little confused. Here in Fragrantica, it seems that A*Men has many notes! While in Thierry Mugler's website it's only peppermint, patchouli, coffee, cedar, leather notes. Does anyone have any idea?
I for the life of me cannot understand why anyone would like this cologne.
The smell is criminal and it was stuck in my nose. I felt like I need to pluck my nose hairs out to get rid of the smell. The first whiff made me so nauseous, then I smelled it after dry down and it didn't get any better.
My shits smell better than this.
So many reviews and no one seems to have picked up a key, opinion-changing, detail.
Like most people, the first time I tried it I hated it. A couple of years later, I gave it another go and loved it. The secret?
It's all quite simple. People tend to sample perfumes by giving 3-4 bursts all around their next or upper body area.. This is where everyone goes wrong!
If you do this, yes it'll make you feel nauseous, yes it'll stick onto you for a day plus and yes you'll aggregate everyone near you.
What you need to do is have 1 spray, maximum 2 (only in winter) this is the secret!
For all those who hated it, try this strategy. It will open beautifully and settle like one hell of a masterpiece.
this is my all time favourite. it starts with a mysterious spicy/woody opening with an earthy quality and then transforms into a sweet, sensual oriental scent. really give this a try, you won't regret it!
Well done fragrance...The top notes are not my type of scent. The drydown is quite good and unique. It will take at least 3-4 hours before the caramel and coffee notes take over. I would give the top notes 1 star, and the drydown 4 stars.
Ideal for older crowd for certain occasions in the winter
Age group: 21+
Projection: 4.5 stars
Longevity: 5 stars
Versatility: 1 star
Smell: 2 stars
Overall: 3.75 stars
Its definately different, I will give it that-all TM creations are rather unique so for creativity he gets A+.
I haven't found it to be that sweet or cloying, contratry to what some other reviewers are saying. I thought that combination of coffee and caramel would be a sure winner for me(btw, I am a woman but I do wear some men's colognes). There is nothing more I love than aroma of coffee but this was nothing like what I pictured. Yes, you get coffee and caramel but its smells rather burnt. I sprayed it on my hand and had to endure the smell of spicy burnt coffee for quite a while. To each one their own but this one is not for me(and if my DH wore this, he would be sleeping on the couch).
A Classic. No other suitable words to describe it. Is there any other gourmand like it? Similar stuff exists but nothing comes close to this level. For the juice created in 90's, it's still modern. This is something right?
However, comments about strong opening are true. Your nose may get a surprise if you are hoping for an instant classic smell right off the bat. The magic is in the dry down although I appreciate the scent for all three phases.
Tar, Caramel and chocolate combines to make a craziest scent of all. Under right conditions, this is a kind of scent that can leave a burning print on your memory as it did to me. Strictly for Winters and nights. This could definitely be a party scent. If someone other than me wears it well, the person would definitely gets my respect for having great taste in fragrances. Sure, one can go for 1 million and Black XS. The safe stuff which everyone goes for when going out.
Projection is good. Longevity is good. And I think I have already mentioned about how unique and great the scent is. This belongs in my trophy cabinet for eternity along with other classics.
Unique, sexy, sweet.
My first designer fragrance.
I loved it. The opening is powerful, I got blown away by it, and the smokey sweet dry down is heavenly.
I tried it and simply hated it. That stuff smells cheap and exaggerated. Animale Animale for men is faaar much better than this.
Then okay. I tried to give it a second chance and what...? Just wrong, wrong..., terrible. What a shame. I ask myself where all those fine ingredients in the formulation have gone.
Oh I love this frag man. Usually I don't really like sweet stuff but this is different. It's a deep smokey sweet scent, classic and morden at the same time.
I agree this is kinda confuse to wear by anybody, some people will absolutely love it and some others will absolutely hate it. I'm in group 1 anyway lol
with alot of notes in this I love I thought would love it! I could not have been more wrong....the opening is pretty wicked, I really can't see how anyone can enjoy that but to each his own I guess... the dry down is better but considering the opening it doesn't seem a fair trade...if your gonna put me through that opening you better bring it....he didn't bring it.....at least to me...test for yourself
who else thinks that this stuff smells like salted caramel ?
Not a fragrance, more a weaponized crowd control agent.
I got a sample to see what all the fuss was about. Sprayed it, and tried to power through the opening. I just couldn't do it. It smells like burned plastic, tar, mixed with caramel and... something like a fire accelerant.
The overpowering feeling I get is: pyromaniac burning down a candy store. Not good. It gave me a killer headache.
On the plus side, it seems to last forever. Oh god, the horror.
This cologne gets 10/10 in every category. Women go ape shit for it. Must have. Defenite hall of famer. Thierry mugler does not play around with fragrances
A lot of people like this one, however I do not. The vanilla, chocolate and coffee gourmand notes are spot on. However, I think the tar, tobacco and patchouli notes completely ruined it.
A*Men has many distinct attributes which seperated it from the usual crowd when it was released as the the main Gourmand fragrance which took the world by storm and responsible for countless take on attempts
Firstly, it is famous for it's awful harsh and very very intolerable opening. When you first spray this, you are instantly blew away by a heavy, dense and and almost cringe worthy tar note which to my sensitive nose stays with the life of the scent to practically it's dying death. The tar note does seem to lose its strength towards the end though but powers through everything else on the note pyramid
This fragrance is also famous for it's very sweet attributes and another reason people may hate this fragrance. There are noticeable accords of chocolate, sugary caramel, creamy vanilla, coffee mixture vibe here which again are very present even from the very beginning of the fragrance but seem to get stronger as the scent ages and the tar loses it's staying power. The tar note unfortunately cuts through the sweetness and i am a big big fan of the sweetness here. Sometimes, momentarily you can smell just the sweetness giving you a feeling of an oven fresh bakery, it is a beautiful gourmand when the tar note evaporates which in my opinion is too late. Some people may and do like the harsh contrast of the tar against the sugary sweet bakery accords and if you like that kind of thing, you will absolutely love this!
I am guessing the tar and patchouli mix is thrown in to give a masculine twist on an overly sweet fragrance to give it the masculinity is truly has -
The positives (or negatives if you don't like the smell) is the projection and longevity of this fragrance. I honestly have never smelt a fragrance which has this much power (with the exception of Joop! Homme) which even comes close to the original A*Men - it is an absolutely monster in terms of it's lasting power and scent trail. 10/10 in both areas- 24+ hours on anybodys skin for sure. This EDT blows higher concentration perfumes out of the water and people will definitely will smell this on you with even 1-2 sprays of the stuff.
Age group i would say younger adults and up and those who dare wear it! As this is a power fragrance, versitility is fairly poor and wouldn't be a very good signature scent in my opinion, most people would find this difficult to wear and this is definitely a winter cold weather fragrance, please do not wear this in the summer, you will probably cause headaches or even knock people out!!
Overall i feel like i cannot wear thisbecause of the harsh and lingering open tar note (alot of people have mentioned this but i stress it is THAT strong) and this accord puts me off the otherwise great other sweet side of the fragrance. I would say this is a definite try just to experience the legend that is A*Men
Fortunately, Thierry Mugler have released various flankers of the original which remove the tar note and the general popularity and demand for these is great as a result. I consider the 2 flankers A*Men Pure malt and Pure Havane 2 of the best fragrances ever made by a fragrance house and i pretty much dislike the original! I would certainly recommend checking them out as alternatives which keeps the heart of the sweet signature A*men without the harshness, tar, loud and offensive nature and makes them very pleasant. I would advise to try out those 2 flankers out before going for this is you are getting into fragrances or looking at blind buying
Review of Darrshan.
Well just one thing wait for the first one hour to let it settle and then enjoy the dry down awesome gourmand if u like such frag
It simply the MUST-HAVE
@dr_spazmo pretty much nailed this one. The opening is VERY strong and may turn a lot of people away. However, it' dries down into a pretty smooth, sweet note than radiates for hours and hours. It's a very sweet fragrance and certainly not for someone that isn't looking for a sweet fragrance. I wouldn't suggest wearing this one during the day either as the sweetness will just be too heavy. Overall I like this fragrance after trying it and wearing it a couple of times.
This is my second updated review with this cologne. Since I had about 2 years onward from my previous review I have a good idea what I am getting into. This cologne is obviously infamous for the opening and famous for the drydown. Let me just say, you have to learn to love the opening. Once you keep wearing it, you will actually get used to the opening and maybe even like it. People need to stop bashing this masterpiece just because of its opening and try it. If you don't like sweet fragrances, stay the hell away from this. This cologne lasts 24+ hours on me which is unbelievable. It even projected for that long as well to the point where if i am standing next to someone they could still smell me without having to come to my neck and smelling it. Sillage is monster. People have spread rumors saying it has been reformulated. That's ridiculous beyond words. A*men has been there and will always be. Reformulations aren't necessary. Try this one. To all who dislike the opening, give it at least 10 full wearings. If it still doesn't do it for you, well at least you tried.
@RAG1987, that sounds JUST like that revolting Diesel Fuel For Life cologne that smelt just like DIABETES. I honestly have NO idea how some people can tolerate sickly sweet, creamy, NAUSEATING colognes...just disgusting.
Review UPDATE! I initially purchased this in mid 2012 ABSOLUTELY HATED IT and after a negative comment from a friend I ditched the bottle and never looked back. I found it to be too sweet and heady, however a couple of months ago I was at work (I work in a university) I could smell something off someone that was familiar and I instantly remembered it was A*Men. I was keen to try this again because after smelling it once more I felt like I could enjoy it.
A*Men is one beast that scared the hell out of me and I felt nervous at the thought of putting some on so I decided to buy a sample and I was pleasantly surpised. Half of a 1ml sample is just the right amount to put on. The tar note is not as prominent if you are careful on the trigger and you are soon passed the opening notes when you wear less. This is the way to tame this beast. I can now enjoy A*men and I have now had a lot of compliments on this. Admittedly this is not a fragrance I would wear all the time as it is not suitable for everyday use but I like to wear it in the cold Scottish winter. This is when the fragrances shines as bright as the chrome flacon it is contained in. Cold weather is the only time A*Men should show it's power. This stuff is Nuclear and should only be enjoyed in certain circumstances. I am glad I revisited A*men because it is now a fragrance I can enjoy. This is not a refined or classy fragrance like my beloved LIDGE (The best fragrance ever made classy and refined) A*men is more of a guilty pleasure but a guilty pleasure I am pleased to have.
Anyone curious to try A*men should give it time to grow on you like I did, I could easily have never looked back but thanks to that one person I revisited this. Not many people wear this where I live, I think because of the harsh top notes and inability to use in moderation. Everyone seems to wear PR 1million so I am pleased to be different. P.S. I hate 1 million I find that to be very sckly and anyone I have come across who wears this (Nearly every guy) seems to bathe themselves in it!
Just bought a bottle of A*men.for me, it's smell a bit similar with chanel mademoiselle..but I love it..maybe my favourite perfume after paco rabbane ultraviolet..
What a pleasant surprise. Nice gourmand scent with a little bit weird openingtone. That weird tart opening last some minutes and after that the scent gets sweeter. Its still masculine what is great news for men. That chocolate drydown is also worth waiting. Longevity and projection is great. Can be overpowering and can irritate some jealous mens.
Actually think that this scent is pretty versatile. Why people bash this as a summerscent? The greenness of this scent is the key to keep this somewhat fresh so can be used in summer also. Great clubbing scent. This is not overly sweet like pacos one million what is actually just over the top sweet and nothing else.
This is a gourmand scent! so if dont like those this might not be for you.
I tried it yesterday and I have to say that it let me a little bit disappointed. It is far too sweet for me and I didn't smell the coffee at all. I felt like a giant creamy cupcake full of sugar and i had to run home immediately to wash away that sweetness.
PEOPLE! if you want a scent that can last you for 24 hours then you've just found it because this cologne has the most powerful sillage cloud that i have ever experience, if you put this on and dont take a shower, it will still be on you, and that goes for the entire Angel Men collection, B men, Pure Malt,Pure Coffee, Pure Havane,Ice Men, Taste of Fragrance,Pure Shot and Sunessence, my friend this collection is a must have, and not only that, one bottle of A-Men can last for a couple of years if you keep it in a cool place.
I thought I had closed the chapter, but I tested this again the other day when a sales lady came to my office and we were discussing perfume. I may have to eat my words after trying to review this controversial juice twice as managed to find some beauty behind the initial introduction.
Here is my new take on A*Men.
When I apply A*Men, It’s like falling in love with a beautiful women, but there is something you just don’t like about her. You get to the point where you want to be with her, to engulf her with passion, but she acts in a way that makes you want to hate her. A secret lover who you want wild, awesome sex with but not to associate with all the time. Yet you just cannot get her out of your head, so you date her anyway in the hope that all her beauty will be savoured and that you will overcome the difficult aspects. The classic Love – hate relationship.
This is the only way I can describe this stuff.
I have decided that I will buy it, just to get what I can out of this unique Bitch! Only then will I get Thierry Mugle’rs A*men out of my head.
I will let you know....
A Men somewhat reminds me Givenchy Play Intense by its coffee notes with Vanilla and Animale Animale by its caramel notes. But not exactly the same. But this one has very strong opening with heavy Tar notes which will make u hate, But soon as it dries down the caramel notes with coffee enters the show, Also the vanilla joins the show. The projection is Beast with monster longevity. It stays more than 10 hours plus on my skin. The projection is like One Million Paco Rabanne, Which will make others turn their heads. Sure u will be noticed. I get many Compliments. If u like Givenchy Play Intense & Animale Animale,Then this will be ur best choice. If it comes without the Tar notes, then this will be one of the best fragrance in the World. I would have loved it if the tar note is not there. Anyway i like it... I give 10/10. Projection:10. Longevity:10. Overall this is a master piece.
Fascinating and completely unique fragrance. I was prepared to smell like a sweet sugary mocha based on many reviews but instead got this lovely caramel herb opening I have never experienced. Drydown for me was similar but much softer around the edges, maintaining the herbal qualities but less "in your face".
Heady is a good word for it, and definitely not fresh. I like this fragrance a lot for it's qualities and originality, but honestly I can't think it would be one that I would use very often. Very nice, very well made, not for me.
I'm trying hard to like this stuff, Thierry.
But I live in a tropical country. This opening, that lasts forever, is killing me!
Make a version without that tar opening...hey, how about "A*Men Pure Chocolate"?
Then we can talk!
I'll keep trying to like you, A*Men...
I don't know if this perfume is a male perfume, in my opinione is unisex. I used to wera Angel Woman in the past, I liked it very much, now I find it a little bit boring.
but Angel Man is very interesting, the same mood but more wearable, more classy, and yet still very seductive
این هم که همه مردم بوش کردن.دوستش دارم
Powerful scent, leaves trail wherever it goes, I bought without knowing how it was, I thought it strange at first, but after a while the smell is wonderful. Can buy without fear. trace leaves for more than 8 hours.
Rod - Barra Mansa-RJ - Brazil
A powerful masculine fragrance. You either love it or hate it - very unusual and medicinal with lots of character. I think it's daring and fabulous. When people get a waft of this - they will notice immediately. Lots of vanilla, caramel, and spices and there seems to be a tar note in this. If you are looking for a cheaper alternative, Cuba Prestige comes very close. Longevity of Amen is awesome and sillage is an attention grabber - great stuff.
Can't stand the opening, make me sick, drydown is very nice though.
This fragrance punches my in my face. its so heavy! wow, 2/3 hours later you found the heavy chocolate in this !
projects well. Longevity amazing i test it in a fragrance shop i spray this one on my left arm and londen for men on my right, its now 6 hours after londen is clear and a men smells prety the same when i sprayed it ( 4 sprays )
I got a sample today. The first association - a man in a brown sweater and soft brown jacket sitting on a chair by the fireplace and read a book: lol:, slowly drinking tea and eat biscuits. I like the mixture of smells of coffee and chocolate, caramel, etc.., just do not know as much as a perfume. Definitely causes butterflies in my stomach. A winter perfume.
this is by far my favourite fragrance so strong, long lasting and changing very sweet at first and by the end of the night ends up smelling very woody. it is like nothing else it however is a love or hate deal.
This is what I get from amen. Cotton candy. The opening is sweet: fruit, caramel, honey... all that to me smell like cotton candy but that's not all folksonce it settles the benzoin and iam guessing sandalwoo musk to remind you just in case you forgot that you put it on. Its alive and it wants you to know it and it also sweats and wants you to smell it.
Angel men, the classic fragrance from the Thierry Mugler house opens up with a caramel note combined with a coffee aroma, not a dry one similar to pure coffee, instead here the coffee present itself in a sweet aspect.
There's also a easy to spot kind of harsh note in the opening that has no sweetness atached to it. Could it be the tar note? I don't know, maybe yes. Trough time the sweetness gets over expressed on this fragrance leaving us with an explosion of caramel combined with other sweet notes.
Anyway, a very solid fragrance from the TM house! Must try for everyone who enjoys fragrances.
it'd been nearly 04 hrs. that i'd received my rubber flask, and i'd quickly applied the juice on my wrist. For the first couple of hours this should not be categorized as 'PERFUME', it is more of a sweet n hot caramel pop corns, smells like hot caramel. The next sniff would make you close your eyes and remind you of woods n rain forest. The perfume made me stick my nose to my wrist and completely took over my senses. All in all this bottle is marvel by thierry mugler. I strongly recommend this gourmand because no perfume would smell this 'DELICIOUS'.. ;)
Projection : 8/10
Sillage : 9/10
Longevity : 9/10
This is my second review.
When I first smelled this I thought “Yuck, sushi wrapped in heavy seaweed.” I never gave it another thought.
However, Thierry Muglers A*Men kept popping up in the reviews and on other threads here at Fragrantica. I am looking for something unique with longevity. My curiosity was pricked; I was almost convinced by the reviewers who admitted that the opening is horrible but that it evolves into something amazing with a decent longevity and a superb dry down.
So I tested it again yesterday with an open, unbiased mind. I applied three sprays on my wrist and then continued shopping. I am not a hyper critical or nasty reviewer but my goodness, the opening notes are nothing short of revolting. I almost felt nauseated by the sushi/seaweed stench. I thought, “Hang on, you are supposed to wait for a half hour for the middle to reveal its beauty.” There was no beauty, only a horrible concoction of everything I don’t like in a perfume.
At home I could not bear it anymore. I tried to like it, I really wanted to, but after wanting to hurl I scrubbed my wrist with soap and water. I made up my mind, this is the worst perfume I have ever smelled and I will not venture here again.
It is almost a pity. I have read so many positive reviews. I genuinely wanted to like this. Perhaps it clashes with my chemistry, Perhaps it reminds me of something negative that is buried deep inside my subconscious. Perhaps I am not looking for a scent that I must be patient with while it is supposed to change. Perhaps it just does not agree with me. I don’t know, but wow, this stuff is nothing short of terrible!
I dont know how to comment on to 'the most commented cologne in the world' but here it goes.........
After hearing a lot about A*Men i bought it, when i first sprayed it.. i was thrown off guard, it was very potent and heavy for my nose to bear. It was rumored to be a good hit with the ladies,... so i went to my girlfriend, sisters, cousine, as well to my mom. But all negative reaction, some say way to heavy, too sweet, too nauseous.
I was disappointed to core... back to the cubbord.
( MIND IT! I live near the equator and when the time i tested it.... it was in the middle of summer )
Days...Months.......Years...............passed by, did not test the cologne.
One night in the middle of the coldest winter possible, my ten year old brother was fooling around with A*Men and by mistake he sprayed a bit........... At that very moment i felt like one of the men in there advertisement holding A*Men, and the whole room was engulfed with the aura of the smell. If Angel really exist, they sure smell of A*Men. Though the notes are very gourmandish, but for the mint everything transformed into icy sexy metallic coffee ,caramel, choclate. Very sweet and warm in a manly way. Now i know why girls loves it, anything choclaty can drive them wild.
Ever since i have been a abid user. Definite bye for the WINTER days and NIGHTS..... specially NIGHTS.
P.S-Word of Caution: (( NEVER USE IT IN SUMMER! ))
i mean what else do you want to know about it?
finally arrived yesterday. I opened the package immediately. And knock two or three sprays into my body. A sharp odor
I feel very good. A very sexy smell the wonderful
10 of 10
I tried this on a teststrip (the SA allready looked at me in a strange way at my request and asked if I didn't mean ANGEL instead of A*MEN), so I thought I'd leave it at that.
On paper it isn't that harsh. I didn't get any burnt plastic or tar. It just begins with the most gorgeous, jummy, nutty coffee aroma. The kind of coffee aroma you get the slightest whiff of in Cacharels NOA and for which you strain to smell more of, only there is none. Well, here there is.
What I did get, suddenly in the middle of development, was a cat-piss note. It was there, and then, just like that, it was gone again. I think the whole fragrance balances on the edge of the cat-piss abyss. If it would stray just a little... :)
There is a wonderful earthy note as well, the patchouli. I allready love patchouli, but here it is execptionally great. It's both earthy and slightly herbal (just like in ANGEL).
And then there's caramel. Slightly salty and so rich, creamy and sweet. But not too sweet, because it's tempered by the coffee.
There also is a very dry vanilla and the most wonderful rich, dark, smoky scent.
To support all this delicious sweetness there is a deep woody scent. Like old, heavy wooden furniture.
It doesn't develop any further on paper, which is a shame, I think.
I do think it has a "male" edge to it, but maybe that's just because I know it's a mens fragrance.
But it's very close on the unisex side. Well, it probably just IS unisex.
I really want to buy it, but I'm not sure if I could get my boyfriend to wear it (he allready has one perfume, and that's enough for him). But then again, if he doesn't want it, I'll wear it :)
My goodness, I am learning so much here at Fragrantica. This creation has got me mystified -- completely befuddled. The reviews are intriguing and most agree the opening is nothing short of terrible. I smelled this the other day out of the bottle. One thought came to mind, “Sushi” wrapped in heavy seaweed. I was actually repulsed and promised myself to never venture there again. Some say “tar” others say “burned rubber.”
If it were not for Fragrantica I would never have even given this a second thought. The reviews here have pricked my curiosity so much, primarily as I am on a longevity quest. This may do it for me, only if I can get over the vile opening note. I just love perfume that evolves on my skin. This may be the one.
Only one way to get this out of my curious zone: test, test and test.
My husband got a sample of this last time he was shopping at a department store, and I sprayed it on my arm just to see what it smelled like. It smells AMAZING on me! I might have to buy it for myself! The female version doesn't smell right on me (it goes sour/acidic in a bad way) and this version gives the same feel without the sourness.
This could call "THE SWEET NIGHT"
This is the very true cold night frag, I wear every time I'm in a night club.
Very Seductive, Attractive, Sweety, Yummy and every thing you needed in the night. It's still turn on the instinct which inside all Ladies around you. But keep it in the brain guys, it's "THE NIGHT" not for the sunshine and hot day.
For me, I Love, no !! it can call crazy. I am very crazy in this, cant go out home with out this in the night.
Just try this and love this like me guys.
Smells sweeter than Angel IMO.
I had never smelled the lines of fragrances from Thierry Mugler thoroughly and I got the chance to when I saw this one at Macy's. After reading the majority of positive reviews and comparisons to Animale Animale, I wanted to see what all the hype and fuzz was about. Definitely not worth the hefty price tag... The scent is dominated by coffee notes mixed with caramel and vanilla. Those notes usually work for me but not in the case of this fragrance.. Too strong and repugnant in my opinion. Animale Animale is much better.
my signature scent. I tried it and experienced that this perfume when u spray close to skin, (about 3inche) and it'll stay for a whole day.
Perfect scent!
I'd be lost without my bottle of A*Men. Its been my companion through the world of fragrances. Its been like my best friend, never let me down and never ever gets old, im always discovering something new and more beautiful about it everytime i put it on. This is the kind of scent that is just instantly recognisable, some people mistake it for Angel upon first application but once it settles, it becomes its own unique distinctive sort of smell. Something which I believe both men and women can wear. The Caramel, Coffee, Vanilla, Patchouli...It all works and in reality it should come out smelling like an Easter gift basket thats been out in the sun for days but instead it smells like an expensive dessert. Guys love smelling this on guys. Girls love smelling those on guys. Being gay, i love it when a guy says i smell good, cos thats always a great feeling to know. If you haven't smelt A*Men. Go out and smell it. Its an experience!
10/10
very nice and unisex
I have this fragrance from a few days.
Many reviews and comments I have taken in mind before buying it.
And yes , this is a fragrance which you need to learn how to like it
First few times it is rough and heavy, then I started to like it , now I expect to start loving it
It is the same with the good music and automobile complex car design like Alfa Romeo :)
day 1:hypnotic
day 2:buy
day 3:i don't know what to get my brother for christmas....
this scent its too sweet for me ...bored sniff
The top note is horrible. It smells something burnt and ashy. Thankfully it will be gone in 1-2mins and thereafter, the drydown is a warm, sweet and chocolatety...its like ur body is smear w fudge and cookie dough. U either like it or hate it. I like it!
The overly sweet and almost spunky stench you get when you first spray A*Men can be horrifying. The near cat-urine quality of the top notes is, well, off-putting and may scare you away. But don't let it! There is hope.
Within a few patient moments and into the next few hours, the scent melts onto the skin with the sweetness of caramel and milk, progressively grounded with the earthy qualities of patchouli. It settles and caves to a bareness that rivals the initial intense and heady reaction the cologne produces. Be patient with this scent - if your skin is like mine and doesn't react well with it, try giving a few sprays onto a pillow-case or favorite blanket. It's oddly both comfortable and sexual, as the scent eventually evolves into the sexiest combination of sweat, dirt, and man. Yes, man - that is the best way I can describe this cologne.
it is like play intense but sweeter, more sophisticated, just awesome.
I find it ridiculous to spray some on before going to bed, but I do with this one!
Totally addictive. I have barely used my other bottles since owning this
love at first smell for me, its inviting and i don't find it harsh at all, its sweet and calming
10/10
I had to vote dislike based on my personal opinion. The top of this is harsh and not too appealing. And to my nose it stays throughout the whole fragrance. I dies down a little but its still there. The only thing about this is that my cousin has it and when he's wearing it and comes over i can smell it and its not bad. But for some reason when i spray myself i just can't stand it. Who knows maybe my taste will change eventually but every time i go back to my decant to try it again. I have the same reaction. So not for me.
What can I say about this scent??? Wow. I hated on this scent for the longest time. Spraying it on a test strip the opening is ridiculously harsh. For this reason I never sprayed on my skin because I hated it. The tar note is a middle note but it is apparent on the initial spray and it is just putrid. I decided to spray on my skin and spraying on your skin is still bad, not as bad as on a test strip but still not the best....BUT THEN...comes that dry down which I never was able to observe on a test strip and oh my that dry down.
The dry down of this scent is absolutely marvelous. The top notes only last about 10mins on my skin and to my nose the peppermint lasts throughout the entire length of this fragrance it hides in the background peeking it's head out every now and then.
I'm going to skip everything and jump into the dry down being that it is the part that lasts the longest. The base notes of Tonka Bean, Vanilla, Caramel, Chocolate, Musk. This dry down is legendary. You get the caramel, the chocolate, the tonka bean, the musk, and a faint whiff of the vanilla. The dry down is just delicious. Though it isn't listed as a note I get a whiff of some honey, tobacco and maybe just maybe nutmeg in this fragrance. Honey and tobacco are definitely prevalent to my nose though.
The scent does last, on my skin I'm not getting monster longevity the way this fragrance has been described as. I only use 2 sprays 1 to the chest and 1 to the neck so that could be the case. I would say I get maybe 8 hours on it.
Projection I'm not really sure about...I applied 2 sprays maybe an hour before getting on a party bus and no one seemed to notice anything. So as I stated it could be that the 2 sprays on my skin, which could be increased.
I will say that this scent is not one that can be worn by anybody. It takes a very confident person to pull this fragrance off good. I would not recommend anyone to spray this on a test strip. Just spray it on your skin, this way you can witness the dry down first hand (lol no pun intended).
This is popular in the fragrance community but not to much outside the fragrance community (maybe due to lack of knowledge on fragrances and that stinky first impression on a test strip). I have never smelled this on anyone. So if you want to be daring and step outside the box of the normal favorites I would highly recommend this fragrance.
All in all this is a great gourmand scent and it is legendary for a reason. This will always be a part of my wardrobe.
*Edit upon further wearing and more sprays than 2. This stuff is a longevity beast. Showered and still could smell it.
Sillage/Projection: 10/10
Longevity 10/10
Scent: 9/10
Compliment factor: N/A haven't received any yet
Purpose: 8/10
Season: Will work preferably Fall and Winter. Can be worn in cooler parts of Spring. Warmer parts of Spring, and Summer if you wear be careful with the trigger and apply appropriately.
Loooove it!!!Love the coffee note,the caramel...the smokyness!!!
Mugler is the only house that,in my oppinion, can blend that crazy number of notes into something...CRAZY! People who like it are CRAZY about it,and who don't...just hate it! There is no middle way with this!
What can I say! I used to hate Angel and the Mugler house with it! After trying Alien and Angel La Rose...I smell addiction again!
***Must get this for my husband quick!!! I'll eat him!***
all hail the dry down on this one, very smooth, warm and inviting. The tar note may turn people off in the beginning, I happen to enjoy the top of this. Please if you are going to try this one, give it a few wears and wait an hour or so for that amazing dry down. Be open minded and you may be surprised on what you may find.
One word, "beautiful".
Enough said....
Upon 2nd review, and after comparing to Female "Angel", They are extremely similar. In fact, they have exactly the same notes, just different volumes tweaked between them. Angel pour Femme is an opening blast of melon, watery florals and Jasmine, drying to Caramel, spicy patchouli.
A*Men opens with Spicy Patchouli and Caramel Coffee Latte first, and the florals step aside quickly. Yes, the Jasmine is there, i see it now. These are brilliant. Addictive and damn sexy. It's like a concentration of that special something in Chocolate that draws you back to it time & again. It is, Le French ;3
Mugler's an eccentric genius, just check out his fashion shows.
its cloying for the first few hours but the drydown is the best, though my girlfriend dont like this stuff, i will still wear this frag anyway
Scent 10/10
Projection 10/10
Longevity 10/10
Value 10/10
Overall 40/40
My winter signature scent. When I wear this, I can't stop smelling myself, lol. I know its pretty popular, but I don't care. The harsh opening fades in 5-10 minutes and you are left with 12+ hours of "awesome". Very masculine gourmand and a great compliment getter.
now first of all this is not for those who dont like sweet fragrqances, this opens a little harsh but the real game starts after 2 hours it settles to a great very warm sweet scent and the longevity is mind blowing for hours and hours.
Some like the burn tar smell but I don't at the very least. But the drydown is what you want in this cologne. I don't like food sweet colognes this strong but I can see a woman with a chocolate sweettooth would love this (think getting a woman strategy). Longevity is oh God easy 15 plus hours, and projects out there big time. If you love sweet fragrance you probably own this and if not that is a surprise. I will not rate this because I don't wear very many gormant colognes but many Like it and its not fair for me to rate it.
The best that i have and the first gourmand i ever baught. This fragrance is what opened up the fraghead world for me. I love how i smell with this and the opening in my opinion is amazing!..
.And the women's version is great too...i love this stuff on my girlfriend...when we go out and she is wearing it i am always sniffing her, sometimes a bit too much..heh heh
Warm, dense, sweet, chocolaty, caramelized, thick, bit of spice and incense in middle phase.
Very harsh opening, very pleasing dry down. Try it on skin and give it some time to develop.
ideal for very cold weather, not many guys wear it. Projection, longavity are one of the best you can get.
Smell- 7.5/10 (dry down)
Projection- 10/10
Longavity- 10/10
Uniqueness- 8/10
The following is a review by an "Average Joe" and in no way reflects the thoughts of the fragrance community.
Where ever in the world you may be, please read the following out loud with a "working class" accent.
Cop a squat, we're about to start...
Greetings to you my Internet friends, I am "Average Joe"... and dis is my review about dis smelly water called ay mens, or A Men or Hey Man by some guy named Theory Mugger.
Anyway, you wanna hear sumptin funny? When first sprayed, dis ting smells vaguely of cat piss.
But hold on there pee sniffer, after dat, Tah-Dah! some kinda magic happens, and after a half hour or so da cat piss turns into smooth clouds of sweet masculine loveliness!
Then, guess what? More friggin magic, dats what! Because then it mellows into something almost euphoric and more smoooooothly sweet than before!!
Dey should call dis stuff "David Blane...Street Magic Scent" cause it keeps changing right before your very eyes.
Anyhoo, I'm no homo but I love dis stuff, and to me dis stuff is pure magic, I just have to put a clothspin on my nose for the first 5 minutes after I spray it on.
Buy it? Steal it? Give it to your parole officer?
I would buy dis, no problem. Even retail price, it's dat good, and dats my review of A Men by Theory of a Mugger and I am just an "Average Joe".
Tanks for reading, I'll smell ya later.
Just Headache...
not for me..
This has better longevity than creed git
I am a female and received a sample of this.I sprayed it on me.Its wonderful.I am thinking of purchasing a bottle for me for next winter.Love it.
I originally tried Angel as it is such an iconic fragrance for women, but there was a note that seemed chemical to my mind. I didn't like it.
Then, my boyfriend and I were shopping for new colognes for him and we tested this. All I can say is "mmm". It is definitely addictive, sweet, and yummy on him and myself. When he wears this, I want to cuddle in to be enveloped by him and this cloud of patisserie like cologne, but it also inspires me to devour him in a carnal sense!
This perfume together with Thierry Mugler B Men have poor sillage and longevity on my skin. I don't know, maybe because i live in Indonesia which is in South East Asia that have tropical climate, these perfumes don't work very well.
The opening isn't too nice, like many people say, it starts off with an unpleasant tar note, but give it 30 minutes and this fragrance transforms in to a lovely smooth mix of chocolate, caramel and coffee - and this literally lasts for days. I've never smelled a fragrance with better longevity or projection than this in my life. I sprayed it once in my bedroom and the next day I could still smell it FROM A DIFFERENT ROOM - no exaggeration there either, it's a bomb.
One, maximum two sprays and that's all, if you overdo it with this beast you'll make people sick.
Great for the winter and you'll get a decent amount of compliments too.
Overall: A smooth chocolate and caramel beast in a bottle that lasts forever, people will smell you from across the room even if you're only wearing one spray. I'd recommend spraying this at least 30 mins BEFORE you go out though as the opening is quite sickly.
I like the base note, rather than the top notes of this A*Men from Thierry Mugler. Because the top notes definitely chocolate, caramel, sweet things, you name it! But when it comes to the base notes, it change into nice woody and grassy, with a bit touch of cocoa, what a magic.
I acquired a small tester bottle of Thierry Mugler A*MEN a while ago purely out of curiosity. Having now worn ANGEL's little brother (or is it boy toy?) a few times, I finally feel qualified to issue a verdict.
I only don this juice in anticipation of a coffee bath (I have expresso-scented showergel (-:), and what I find is that on the whole it smells as though someone spilled a venti Starbucks all over the interior of his brand new car. The experience induces in him an intense headache, first, because of caffeine deficiency and, second, because of the thought of how much it will cost to clean the mess up.
I will not be buying a second bottle.
Alright, I FINALLY added this to my collection. What else can I say that hasn't been said before? But here are my 2c anyway.
Presentation and Bottle:
Plain box, nothing special. I got the rubber flask version. When I first saw this bottle with the rubber without having smelt it, I actually thought it was a sports frag. How wrong was I :p? Anyway, I do like the bottle and that blue iconic star. Good sprayer also.
The juice:
Opens up warm but a tad too strong. It is quite bizarre to be honest. People have mentioned it opens up like some sort of "tar" scent. I am leaning towards agreeing with them on that point but it's not THAT bad.
After 15-20 minutes or so, this scent becomes much sweeter. You instantly find yourself in a good coffee shop in the cold winter.
I get warm buttery caramel with a latte on the side. Very strong projection so please be kind. In the dry down, and I am talking after many many hours, I smell dry chocolate.
Final prognosis:
I do love it after having disliked it at first. I only need two sprays max. Insane longetivity and strong projection. A cold weather classic.
It smells like burned sugar with coffee. I simply love it!
Actually the first time i sprayed this perfume on my arm i smelled so strange and bad ...it's too steong for me ...and after 1 day i give a chance more for this angel and after i did the shoot on my arm i'm so confused ,the smell not too bad ,and for make sure i took the second shoot after that i really felt in love with this one ...here's some trick for you to use this perfume use it when you are really at cool time then sprayed it on your body and you're rady to hunt a nice chick out there
GAME CHANGER.
It took me a while to appreciate this. The first time I tried it, I had to wash it off. Then, I bought a few of the flankers (Pure Malt, Pure Havane, Pure Coffee etc). I then found myself wanting to give the original a whiff again...
Boy, am I glad I did. This fragrance has the best drydown of any fragrance I've ever experienced in my life. Velvety chocolate, coffee and caramel. The opening is an acquired taste. I hated it at first, but now I absolutely love it. Spray lightly, and this doesn't become cloying.
If you don't have the balls to wear this - don't. It's a statement fragrance. A total game changer.
This is a "signature" for me. Opens with a bitter almost sour lavender/mint note, but this tames quickly and is followed by a mix of pipe tobacco, coffee and sweet chocolate. The base note is a fantastic bittersweet chocolate that works perfectly with my chemistry. This is a top five for me, but winter only!
The Marmite of juices...love or hate. This is a great fragrance for the winter nights...love it
This stuff makes my hair stand on end. Everyones in intitled to their opnion bu this stuff i dont know how ppl love it so much ugghh i could never ever wear this stuff EVER!!! but ppl love it and say it the best stuff idk i never liked or will or any of thierry muglers flankers of it..
So so good. Nothing compares to the smell, there's just nothing like it... But, unfortunately, this isn't for everyone to wear. It's a MUST TRY BEFORE YOU BUY kind of fragrance, because it reacts so strangely with every skin. For example, a friend of mine wears it at times and his skin settles more the woody aspect of it, while on my skin is the caramel that stings to everyone. All in all, you smell the same and you can tell it's A*Men, but with a different interpretation.
A must smell fragrance, a smelling adventure.
great scent its one of the few scents with a great chocolate drydown and its very sensual. A'men and it's newer versions are strictly club and night time scents but could be worn more subtle for an office setting because of their great smell
honestly these scents are the best out of the dept stores and have MUCH more to them than many other scents on the same counter
Very sweet, strong and unique scent which i really enjoy. Specially I like the dry down. Definitely winter/fall fragrance. Longevity and projection are insane so its good. Smells like coffee and milk blended with caramel and little bit of honey. Unrepeatable, sexy smell. Overall 9/10
very nice fragrance for winters . its sweet but feels very good, u hav to wait after initial sprays for an hour b coz its very good after it settles.
I think it smells great, and I love the manly yet delicious chocolate aroma it surrounds the wearer in. However I wouldn't buy it, because I wouldn't want to use a fragrance that although some people love, many people are passionate against it and isn't the point of fragrance to smell good (to everyone)? I'd use a shower gel of it or something but it's too risky to wear an EDT that so many downright hate.
All I get is caramel and coffee. In the first few minutes of applying it had a weird, plasticine-like smell. Not very nice in my opinion.
Oh no. Men please don't wear this. Try Shalimar EdP instead, it's much more virile and seductive. A*Men is nauseating.
A*Man, together with Acqua Di Gò, L'Eau D'issey and a bunch of other mass-market fragrances was surely a groundbreaking release during the 90s. Its minty-chocolate top notes paired with a strong caramel-coffee accord gave birth to one of the most innovative and distinctive smell in modern perfumery but I still can't say I like it. It may be because A*Men has been overused (ad nauseam) by herds of teenagers overwhelming the population with its overly sweet aroma, it may be because after A*Men, Thierry Mugler invaded the market with countless (and IMO pointless) micro-variation on the main theme, it may be that, after all, A*Men is just a less radiant version of Angel but, as a matter of fact, I don't like it.
That being said, this is probably one of the best option to get introduced to a genre that, during the years, had a little more to offer...
Rating: 8.5/10 (for its relevance)
3/10 (for my personal taste)
This Thierry Mugler's fragrance for men stands apart from the rest. Unique, quite sweet warm smell. Angel for men gets 2thumbs up from me
A masterpiece! Divides opinion due to the burnt caramel in the opening and it's sweetness. Incredible silage and longevity plus the ability to keep me guessing every time I where it makes this a true classic in my eyes. A must try for anyone!
This scent is truely unique!! When first applied, you smell the lavender and the coriander. Then in the dry-down, you begin to smell the mixture of vanilla, chocolate, honey and coffee which is heavenly in my own opinion. I get compliments everytime I wear it!...which is usually in the Fall and Winter. I HIGHLY recommend this fragrance!!! Thanks, God bless!
10/10
Do not judge a book by it's cover! Not so great at first spray but gets better and better as it goes on. And believe me it goes on and on and on, especially if it gets on clothing!
9/10
Hard to handle at first spray, top notes are over powering. But give it 5-10 mins, and you will fall in love with this! I myself have had many compliments.
Beautiful dry down. I must admit, this is a love or hate fragrance, and you must be brave to wear it.
Also a silage monster!
Projection is great!
Overall - 9/10
I think this fragrance is not like Aquolina-Blue sugar, not too sweet and caramelly, it's like an insence, pleasant woody scent, good for men and women:)
now ok , i tried this b for some years i just hated it,but b for few days i ve started using the vile of this and i hav changed my mind, its starts very heady and not friendly good smell type, but after 2 hrs the real smell starts and it settles to a beautiful sweet scent, this is real gourmand perfume and not for those who like citrus and fresh scents. its a love or hate not an easy one.
Another Unique and rather inventive, and extremely Gourmand Chocolate fragrance. Unisex. I can imagine this on a female. I don't find all of the other notes listed in here... i just dont.. it's just toasted Brown sugar, heated caramel, Peppery Vanilla. It's almost a slightly burnt sugar scent. A Bit quirky, but the dry Down is a peppery spice, like a food pantry in the winter. The Peppery Chocolate note is pleasant actually, Appetizing like a Cinnamon bun topped with black pepper and dark chocolate syrup.
I Must admit i disliked it at first because of the burnt sugar note.... but each time i give it another chance to Mature, i like it more... and more.
The DryDown is always the best part.. it's a curiously sweet cacao mustiness... that harmonizes seamlessly with a guy's body smells... and to be specific, (please bare with me on this) it's like... when you lick someone, let the saliva dry, and then sniff that spot. Strangely addictive. Like the Sauce is to steaks, A-men is to armpits. I think it's the Patchouli & Styrax.
It highlights ones own body odors, working alongside it rather than covering it up. I think people don't realize that that's what they find attractive about this.
Having said that, I'm reeeeeally curious of Muglier's "Womaninity". I wonder if he got the woman smell down too.
A*Men is WAAAAY Better than the AXE body sprays and Deodorants, the "Dark Temptations"(Tonka Coumarin overdose) Line. Heck, compared to that, Angel Men is Awesome!! This is what Axe failed to do.
This scent is great. But I had to get used to it. It takes some personality to where this stuff. And I'm not sure I'd where for summer but i haven't tried in the summer heat yet. It's great for the fall/winter, really cozy. Like most, I notice the "edible" notes and patchouli very heavily in the front, after the first spray. I'm not a huge patchouli fan but on my skin the patchouli fades and what remains for hours is a subtle, NOT too sweet chocolate, powdery, tobacco aura. If i spray on my skin then put on a shirt the patchouli stays on the fabric but not on me, which i quite like.
Very interesting and unique fragrance, but not one I would like to wear. If you like to wear this fragrance, you need to be aware that most people around you don't like it. The name makes this fragrance popular, otherwise its not a real shining star like its sister. It is very feminine with the sugary tones. There was a customer in the Sears that I work at and he tried "A*Men" on one arm and "Le Male" on the other. He asked about its popularity and I told him that "A*Men" is very particular. He wouldn't believe me, so he took it to the aisle and started asking other customers and associates around him. He probably asked over 30 different people. Only one grandmother said she liked "A*Men". The majority of the women said its repulsive and a few said it smelled like a very sweet incense. If you have to wait 2-4 hours for it to tone down...consider the fragrance to be offensive to the majority of people.
just bought this, all i can say is WOW !!! this is a great fragrance for men. i can detect caramel, coffee, vanilla, honey and milk from morning until evening. Great design, great sillage, delicous smell. well done !
I conducted an experiment sprinkled dior homme intense on my scin after 15min sprinkled a*men on it after 5hours a*men completely disappeared and dior smell like the first time i was shocked dior homme very longest longest longest SORRY FOR MY ENGLISH
Over-hyped in my opinion, I don't know why it's so popular. Great projection, as most are aware which is the best thing about this frag I think, and the longevity. But aside from that the scent is nice but just doesn't appeal to me that much, and it's not something I really want to project. Very unique, especially for it's time, but not a buy for me.
10 out of 10! I love this fragrance so much, its the type of fragrance that sticks for ages and has me following my nose anytime someone is wearing it - absolutely melts me! YUM!
Best of the Mugler line by far....
My very first Thierry Mugler Fragrance and i say...AMEN!!!!! Can't wait to buy Pure Havane or Pure malt.
I've owned this since it first came out. I like everything about it except for one note, milk, because on me it stands out as kind of a sour note--like listening to a fine symphony where one player is way off key. Still, overall I like it. I'd give it a 7.5/10. If it weren't for that one note I would have said that this is one of the best mens frags of all time.
I totally love this parfum and don't like the women version at all.
Has a long lasting power, even after a shower is amazing.
I am so in love with this fragrance. I have the original 'Angel' basically the female version of this and I love it (I'm one of those weird people that love angel as well as alien, lol), but when I smelled the mens 'A' men' oh wow! My initial thought was that I like this more than the womens, if it was just a touch less masqueline, I'd ditch angel for it...so what I found myself doing is layering angel on top of a small spritz of A'men (which I bough on ebay used for myself, lol) I also like buying my favorite mens cologne so that when friends come over to check out my ..ehhm....'enormous collection, I can also share with them my male friends..as well as using it on my unsuspecting victims :p
I have the black rubbery bottle with glass star that nicely shows the blue juice beneath, and I just love this bottle...it's different and unique without being girly at all! I think this is an excellent fragrance for either a young man with more eccentric taste or an older gent with a young heart, it's better worn in the cooler to cold months... this might be a bit heavy for the summer... but a cool summer night? sure! longevity I found to be 6'ish hours...which for my skin is GREAT, my boyfriend it lasts (correction ''lasted'' all day!)
The A'men flankers..like malt (i believe) sound amazing as well cant wait to sniff :-)
As an 18th birthday present for my brother he requested that I get him this. I honestly don't know if I like it or not. It's this very complex mix of notes that can slap you in the face at first but I do know I LOVE the dry down to the end notes. My brother, thinking it would be funny, sprayed me with it and after a couple hours I was like "what is that amazing smell?" forgetting he had sprayed me earlier. I just might wear this myself sometimes, so much for him thinking he could get away with making his sister irritated.
This one is a love or hate one. Definitely a daring choice for anyone coz its an uncoventional men's perfume. Has an extemely long lasting power. I'm wearing it since I was 19 years old and I get many compliments about it.
amazing stuff. girls love it, men hate it. chocolate, caramel, honey, vanilla and spicy notes. incredible longevity... I suggest AMEN only for clubs, dinners or dates.
I live in a place where it is hot even in late afternoons but this didn't stop me to use Amen.
Been using this frag for over a week now, what do i get? when sprayed sparingly (max two sprays only and i mean only). i got wonderful compliments.. when you've got a long day of activities ahead, after 5 hours or so of wearing it, you may spray once, lower throat area but just once and you smell consistently good and yum!
longevity and projection is great, dry down smells like dry tobacco and dry less sweet chocolate but wonderful. This is 10/10 since I haven't tried TM Pure Malt and Bond no. 9 I Love NY for All yet.
I love this perfume. it compliments on my skin but again, spray sparingly and you'll gonna get good notice especially from women. Since my place is hot, I put my frag on the fridge/chiller, but it's covered with the transparent plastic box. Didn't notice any change with the scent and longevity.
For me, this is my number 1 and just to share the rest of my best 9 so far: TM BMen, Burberry London, Aramis Havana, Versace The Dreamer, YSL Rive Gauche, Emporio Armani White for He, Paco Rabanne Ultra Red, Givenchy Very Irresistible and Lanvin Sport. Cheers!
u cant appreciate it from the first sniff cz the oppening is so strong and so sweet, u have to wait a couple of hours to discover its beauty, very strong sillage and lasting power
Dag, man. It is incredibly strong. But fantastic anyway. I wore it yesterday and I had to take Imitrex today because I have a migraine. Probably too much to wear and too much to expect others to bear but so what? The main thing it smells like is the fake chocolate smell that dog toys used to be infused with. Could be an ultra-glamorous women's evening-at-the-Copa scent. Like the lyrics to Virginia Plain:...midnight blue casino floors, dance the cha-cha through to sunrise...oh wow. Definitely exciting in a Flying Down to Rio kind of way, if you're up to it.
Katy Perry's "E.T" song in a bottle.Unique-sexy-inviting-warm a cologne with an attitude.Love it.
It’s very strong cologne with super longevity and projection. To my nose, it was a strong combination of tobacco and coffee. It reminds me those oily tobaccos using for hookah! Drydown is warm and it’s getting sweeter and darker. Good for daily usage.
in my opinion, very small amount of us can "love at first sight" with this stuff. So strong and... something made you headache :(, but this one is truly thing you should learn to love it, after 1 or 3 hours, it will turn into something pretty good :)
This is potent stuff. I can't pull it off. I have a bottle missing about four of five sprays and am looking to make a trade.
Rodolfo, of course you can wear it. Here, in Brazil, I live in a really hot area but during the morning I wear it in just one spray. At night, two or three. Of course you'll be smelling very good and won't be going bad.
I live in a pretty hot place...
will I be able to pull it off with a single spray to the chest(no more than one)? I mean...will it be too strong, yet?
Oh god. I tested this today and i had really high expectations!
Sprayed on my arm, waited for like 2 mins... and... oh man what the hell is this smell... it was so bad.
... after 1 hour... damn this stinks! ran to the WC and washed this crap from my hand...could not stand it any more.
I really dont know why... but it smelled so bad on me.
To me it smells like a Choc Caramel Hot chocolate with a a bit of a salty smell to it, its very warm so where it on a cold day not a hot day, It wouldn't be good for a club or resteruant its more of a daily scent, stay at home scent to me at least, nice perfume but definelty a try before you buy 8.5/10
This time I will not describe that note and as is develops, 'cause I think in order tu ruin him the beauty of space! If the JOOP Pour Homme, the most revolutionary fragrance(meaby),this vanguard(certainly), perfumes BAUHAUS!I see that still causes controversy, wich is fine, I can only imagine how it was when it came out thee 96, horror film!I met him in 2001,we are glad 'cause I was ready for this type of shock. It was then when he came 96, maybe I would not be ready for him, this was all ok.I had my,me and them a shock, but an absolute pozitive,I was so unrealy, fascinating, absolute passion and joy in the ordinary bottle of perfume, on me and determine direction of my favorite perfume to date, types of gourmet sweet, slighty oriental, and therefore I told him, all my soul and heart thank!!!
great sillage
powerful projection
leaves a trail behind u
make your presence be known to others
wonderful
9.5/10
The most delicious gourmand male perfume I've ever smelled. People usually make good comments about it, but they don't ask the name, fortunately.
I love it. And when my flask come to the end, I'll buy a brand new one.
This is a nice sweet, musky, and woody fragrance. This fragrance brings me to my knees when I smell it on my boyfriend and I just want to smell him all day. Definitely has more of that sweet and very warm quality to it. Absolutely love this one.
Very powerfull scent!!!! For those who wants to be very!!! very!!!bad guys and also smell like ones!!! everybody will love-hate-desire you for your smell and at the same time will never forget you!!! The smell will stay impregned in places and furniture so you will be there even if you are not physically!!!
Great idea to wear it and dress all in black so you´ll become a real Bond Villian!!!!
REALLY COOL!!!!!!
A*Men is saved from a thumbs-down by my own cautiousness. Not wanting to dog this fragrance for circumstances out of its control, I’m not giving the negative rating that I otherwise would have. The last time I wore A*Men, I applied it a half hour before launching into a 24-hour GI virus. The sensation of retching and the scent of A*Men are now gloriously bound in my nervous system. Oh, the irony of fusing a gourmand fragrance and gastric distress.
But here’s what I thought pre-emesis: This is a gender bias on my own part, but there’s Angel (clever, quick and wonderfully badly-behaved) and there’s A*Men (a clod.) In trying to recalibrate the notes of Angel and sell it to the boys, Mugler fell prey to the mistake of all the Angel-imitators. It’s not the flavors, it’s the composition.
There’s an irony to a 24 year-old woman wearing the short-skirted catholic schoolgirl look. The look carries its own slight misalignment that, despite relying on a conceptual pedophilia, is socially acceptable. It’s ‘good’ pervy because we stuff all the potential negatives into the large bag of justifications marked “fantasy” and allow ourselves feel the thrill but not the guilt. Take the above description and exchange man for woman. The vaguely askew but not socially line-crossing feel becomes invisible next to the social anathema of gender borrowing. Such a simple act triggers a fascinating, learned emotional response. The classic two male witness/audience reactions are: 1) stare, because something terrible is about to happen, or, 2) look the other way, because if you’re caught looking, you’re participating. #2 is probably the more common and more visceral response because of the inferred next step: if you’re looking, and he looks back and makes eye contact, by the rules of straight manhood, you have acknowledged him as your object of desire and are queer.
It’s not the skirt; it’s the intention and the modulation of the reference. A*Men misses the point of Angel and looks to her list of ingredients, not her bad behavior, for inspiration.
A very powerful, sweet and warming scent. Unique as well.
I like the smell of chocolate, coffee, caramel, candy ... but not in my skin. It doesn't match, no matter what. I can sniff and test it many many times, but i'm not getting used to it.
However, on the other side, it's an excellent fragrance to "gourmand" lovers, a must have. Just different from any other scents I've ever smelt.
Cautions: Make urself a favor and do not overspray it. 2 sprays max. And use only clubbing or winter days.
I love this so much and have so much to say on this, I dont know where to start or where to end, so I'll just say. WOW.... LOVE IT!
SEXY!!!!!
D+ esse perfume!!
I must say I HATED this when I first smelt it!!
The opening is really, how can I say,... maybe... "hard to smell"! And when I first tested I put this on the paper, and then I put in the trash bag!
The second time I smelt it, it was the same sensation in the first minutes, but since I put this on my hand instead of the paper,I went with this perfume a little more time! The first impressions were gone! After the opening, this turns into a smooth milkshake of caramel and coffee, with some delicious vanilla and honey! The drydown is one of the most amazing things I've ever smelled!
From one of the most hated, it is one of my favourites!
Thank you for this wonderful masterpiece, Thierry Mugler!
spray this on. Wait 3 hours... then go out... the axe effect? nah. If that tar note is all i have to go through to get 12+ hours of a seductive coffee and caremel mystery, Amen!
easily 14 - 16 hours on my skin.. A close to the skin fragrance once it dries down, not a lot of projection after that, but it stays there for anyone who wants to come closer..
I just got it today at first i didn't like it but after sniffing my hand later i went again to the store and bought it smokey sweet caramel really nice
I don't know if it's just my asian sense of taste hiding the notes but this smells like something you eat for dessert not wear. Way too feminine. I might just buy one of the versions of it but this one does not impress me in the least. I guess it's one of those things you either love or hate.
This is fantastic! Warm, sweet and comforting. Works really well alone or combined with the female version. Like, one spray of A*Men on the chest and one spray of Angel on the wrists. The combination makes the chocolate more pronounced, with much more patchouli. I also like to lightly spray A*Men on my pillows and sheets in the morning, so I can go to sleep at night surrounded by that light chocolate/candy cane smell.
Another A-Men review?? Yes, I know it´s not very original, but I´ll try to keep it interesting.
I wont trash A-Men ( I don´t like it at all) but I just wanna say that this fragrance is a classic example of the variety of tastes in regard to scents and our need to accept these differences.
I´ve smelled this one on other people and I ´ve liked it, but on me it just sucks; this also is quite nice in my opinion, because any fragrance can become a masterpiece on the right skin.
I first bought A*MEN in 2000 as I had fallen in love with the fragrance. I thought it was original and different compared to other same-smelling mainstream fragrances. And it was my first designer fragrance. I remained faithful to this one for about 3.5 years, and then decided to kiss it goodbye and move on to something else. I still have a little bit left and the othe other day, just for the heck of it, I sprayed a few drops on my neck before going to bed. I shouldn´t have because I had problems falling asleep, thinking "I used to love this one?!?". I don´t know, it just seemed overpowering, too ruthlessly present. I can understand why people either love it or hate it- but to me, this controversial reception is an essential property any well-made fragrance should possess. I probably won´t return to it, but it does bring back a lot of fragrant (and other) memories...
Dark chocolate bar dipped in licorice and sprinkled with coffee beans. It is incredible, only takes one squirt and it lasts an eternity. Great for the colder seasons, can be worn for any occasion depending on your application. Not for me, I prefer the “tea” notes, but still deserves a thumbs up!
Angel Men By Thierry Muegler
This was the scent that started my hobby in collecting fragrances. Before I found the fragrance community on youtube, I was more familiar with the mainstream fragrances out on the market such D&G pour homme, ADG, le male, the dreamer, etc. This was the first fragrance that I came across that made me step back and say… wow, I never smelled anything like this before…. And than the hobby really began.
At first I didn’t even care for this scent, it was too new to my nose and too extreme. I was more used to the typical fresh/aquatics that constantly flooded on the market. After time however, I really began to appreciate and love this scent..
Angel is a gourmand concoction of incredible potency that has notes of chocolate, vanilla, caramel, and coffee. These sweet notes are blended with darker notes of tar, patchouli and musk which help create a gourmand that is not only sweet, but dirty and masculine at the same time. It is a sugary desert with a dark side. It is one of those fragrances that many have a love or hate relationship with. I find Angel to be a fantastic winter fragrance that is unique, long-lasting, and gets the job done during the colder months better than most other fragrances in the market. A little bit goes a long way, so it is also an economical buy. If you are looking for a unique gourmand that is bold, daring, masculine and very sweet look no further.
Scent- 10/10
Projection- 10/10
Longevity- 10/10
Compliments- 8/10

I gave this a pretty harsh review earlier, and now i'm eating my words.
As a gourmand lover, the first time i tried this on my skin, i was put off by the loud opening of Patchouli/tar combo, but now i came to embrace every single note in this masterpiece .
This is a statement fragrance, it asks for trouble, it forces you to state your opinion about it LOUDLY !
You hate it ? say it loud , it doesn't care .
You love it ? embrace it and join the cult .
I'm not gonna sit here and talk about the mouth watering dry-down of this masterpiece because it has been explained in reviews below .
I'm just here to give my sincere apologies to this "super hero" .
long lasting perfume and its sillage is powerful.
if i were a man, i would use it.
delicious
It's definitely a version of angel. Similar to the womens, but less sweet. Still very strong and overpowering at first. If you can bear it through that, the drydown of this is insanely delicious. It's very difficult to wait for, though. On me it took too long to get there- most of a day. Honestly. Not sure if I will ever try it on again again. I'll probably try, just to meet that amazing drydown again. I am female and I find it definitely more pleasant and easier to wear than the female version.
I love it so much, but when I smell it from the bottle. A few times I spray it on me with the big desire to work well on me, bue everytime it smells like mold. I think this smell comes from the patchouli and it's awful. The truth - I can't use it although the scent is incredible.
I was impressed with this perfume and bottle shape.
Although this fragrance doesn't really appeal to shy people.
A*men seems to be unisex fragrance. I's a strong hints of vanilla. The scent is sweet and spicy, lovely chocolate notes. This fragrance is typical Thierry Mugler's product- grabs you or you hate this, you can't ignore A*men:)
im such a sucker for chocolate....so i luv this one...
it is very strong and overpowering..but who doesnt like sweets?
thumbs up!
I suggest not being too harsh, moreover rudely harsh to the frag that gaines more than 600 votes.
In my opinion, i'd call this fragrance neat, gourmand and seductive. Women love candies, cookies so if u want to represent urself as a big sweet gentle guy, don't worry, wear it for ur date or to seduce/attract shorties/cuties/bellas (whatever))).
Moreover the base of A Men is really smooth, calm and sweet (again, but not as in the beginning) despite a bit too сandied inception. I recommend this perfume to all chocolate, vanilla, candy-lovers and to all those who want to smell tasty, nice, pleasant and noticable. I consider it to be more afternoon/evening fragrance.
Generally, don't be afraid to test, experience and use new fragrances, cos' it's the best way to discover one's favorite and adorable
The most suffocatingly saccharine essence ever, IMO. Obnoxious it may be to me, but it has legions of devotees and a religious-like cult following. This fragrance is the prototype for modern masculine "gourmand" scents and it has inspired many imitators. All I smell is strawberry cheesecake, coffee and cotton candy.
I can't really establish myself as a respectable reviewer until I give Angel Men a decent review. I don't like it, but I'm gonna give it a fair chance.
Angel Men has a weird pissy-musty note in the top that turns me off. Otherwise it's a decent gourmand. The lavender, chocolate, and coffee are all pulled off great. I guess it's the caramel note or tar or whatever that goes off on my skin. Anyway, after about an hour Angel Men calms down a bit and segues into a smooth chocolate-patchouli drydown with the coffee note in the distance. This part of the fragrance basically lasts forever.
The problem I have with Angel Men is that it's a bit more sickeningly sweet than the women's Angel, and it has that strange unpleasant note in the top. The coffee note is great when I can smell it - which means I'll have to get my hands on some Pure Coffee. Otherwise, I'd rather just wear the original Angel.
FYI, I'm not a gourmand fan in general, but at least I gave it a shot.
Que porqueria.........get Animale Animale, it beats this by far at 1/3 of the price, or if you want to spend more, get Givenchy Play Intense, now we are talking!
Boy do I love this stuff… this certainly wasn’t love at first sniff but after training my to nose accept and embrace harsher notes, primarily the tar note, I grew to love this.
The scent is reminiscent to a slice of chocolate cake drenched in an espresso caramel coffee. Picture yourself in a Starbucks that’s in a chocolate factory.
*Monster projection
*Monster silage
*Monster longevity
I travel during the summer to wear this in the winter !
I hope this one don't get so popular as Le Male, because a masterpiece deserves to be unmistakable, and not a habitual smell that is used in any occasions in any time,as happened with Le Male, without discernment and suitable situation.

the tar note is certainly present. when i sniff it on myself it smells like someone has just come out of a cigarette smoke filled room. not sure i like it much.
I like this alot its very nice gourmand creamy smell although I personally prefer the womens version maybe because of its sugary smell while A*MEN has more of creamy smell
I JUST LOVE THIS FRAGRANCE!!! PERFECT!
Thierry Mugler is surely the best brand of perfume in the world ...
Especially the female's range ...
I'm sorry there is no such a wide range for men ...
As for A * Men, I can say that for my tastes is a great scent ...
Wonderful longevity and projection ...
If so could use a perfume for the rest of my life, maybe choose this ...
It is impossible to get tired of this wonderful smell ...
You look at how complex Angel for women is right at first spray you receive sweet juicy berries against aged rich patchouli and you know your nose is going to be in for a complex ride.
The men's version on the other hand is just a rambling of mish mashed items thrown together. I feel that Mugler was not involved in this creation as with the womens and not much time was devoted to it. The women's took about 4 years to create the mens ..3 months maybe?
What lacks in the men's version is any contrast that the ladies has. This scent is just very sweet vanilla chocolate down dry that dominates the whole fragrance. I don't know why tar was added but it does play such an affective role as the patchouli in Angel. I can see why after this Mulger no longer ventured out into any new Men's scents.
A story for you before i give my review :).
About 5 years ago, my mother managed a lancome at a local mall, and she would bring me different samples at least once a week. I specifically remember the day she brought this to me. I had cleaned my room, and was laying on my bed. She walked in with the typical weekly bag of samples, i gave her a kiss and said "thank you".
I then ripped into my bag of goodies only to find that i'd smelled them all before. Except for one...AngelMen. I thought to myself, AngelMen? I had never heard of it before. I read the card, and removed the little black sprayer which read, "a*men" with a little star, and the words Eau de Toilette. I sprayed it on my skin, and was in love ever since.
This scent if nothing else is unique. It starts out with a blast of earthy, savory patchouli with some sort of coffee mixed in there.
As it begins to dry down you get that "fresh asphalt in july" smell. It must be the tar note in it giving it that effect.
Also on the "aftersmell" the little half second after you're done inhaling a fragrance, i get this INSANE blast of hearty spices, almost like a nod to B*men. I understand B*men to be a spicy fragrance. A*men dries down into a creamy coffee dream with some very stringent patchouli left over.
This fragrance makes you feel studly and famous(at least it does for me), and i couldn't help but "sex-glare" every attractive person i saw that day, because i was sure they could smell me from 30 feet away. This fragrance puts me in the mindframe that everyone one wants a piece of me, and so far, is the only fragrance to do so.
I approve

WOW
Sticky, Sweet, chocolaty, tingled on my skin and made itself known in a cute way to others
Lasts 16 hours
Suits the teddy bear cute man, cuddly and nice, yet fun and seductive and could jump out of a birthday cake...
Quality
Too strong and overpowering. Screams out, "Hey look at a me!" Not in a good way. Way too sweet also. Won't be buying a bottle anytime ever.
What exactly leads you to rank a perfume as feminine or masculine? Most of niche perfumers refuse debate on gender by ranking their stuff as unisex. Clive Christian No1 for men - for example - can be a feminine perfume as well.
The fact is that we sort them on our pre-knowledge. We've learnt what smells too hot and floral like this one, is a feminine perfume. Of course its time is passed, but around classical ear men used to wear highly deep floral perfumes and make up their face with cosmetics! For that time it was routine and chic!
When the border between men and women is hiding gradually, it's not necessary to rank a perfume as feminine; specially a mostly men's favorite!
OMG!!!! ESTE PERFUME ES LA DEFINICION DEL PERFUME, SENCILLAMENTE INCREIBLE, DULCES, CHOCOLATES, VAINILLAS, MADERAS, CARAMELOS TODO EN UN MISMO FRASCO, ES Y SERA MI FAVORITO SIEMPRE!! LO AMO!!

Wow a truly unique frag. I could really smell the coffee. Although it smelled very unique and incredible on paper, the frag did not go well with my body chemistry, it became cloying and began to smell funky (in a bad way) in the dry down. Perhaps it will provide better results for others. I'll stick with B*men for now.
On my skin
Top : What the hell is this? LOL! Tar + Tobacco + coffee at the top?
Middle: OH! Now it morphs into Vanilla! Tonka Bean! Chocolate! Coffee! Vanilla! Honey! (At this point, this scent just keeps on going, and going, and going, and going, and going, and going, and going, and going. Sweat all you want. Rub all you want, it just hangs there, LOL)
Base: Similar to the middle, but tone down.
WTH is this! LOL! This is a Cookie factory bomb! Its is chocolate, vanilla bomb! This fragrance, omg, so damn strong!
EDT? This should be EDP! With the warning sign saying: Warning: Wear it at your own risk, we are not responsible if you get cloying and people think you are that cologne guy.
But the sprayer sucks XD
Unisex to me, the top note doesn't last long, so ladies, you may wanna try this XD
2 on each arm and 2 on each pulse points, quickly dap on your neck.
My rating (base on 5 stars)
Scent: 5 (Cookies!!! Wo hoo~~~~!!).
Sillage: 5 (WTH, this is a cookie bomb).
Time length: 5 (Get ready for the next 24 hours!).
Occasion: 1 (Clubbing, or you wan to go to a cookie factory, LOL).
Overall base on mathematics: 4/5
You know who can wear this! Charlie! Charlie in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory!
You can't remain indifferent to A*Men.
People admire it or hate it madly.
Defenitly not a frag for a 1st date.
Personally, i think it's one of the richest frag ever created.
Longevity is crazy. about 12 hours on my skin.
As i was driving to my job there was only one thing that came to my mind: childhood...it could be strong at the beggining , but it milds pretty soon...a wonderful concept for a fragrance that is not trying to sell sex, power or money; it goes beyond that...it talks about the power that grants self confidence to wear it...chocolate: yes; tar: yes; milk, honey and coffee: you bet.A unique masterpiece.
100/100
It's best men perfume from Thierry Mugler. Best bottle design.Best sweet type male perfume good for cool day and night time. It's very strong. Don't worry about longevity. It 's over 10 hours.Usually, I love this brand .And I love A* Men too. This is one of my favourite.
Definately strong and if over applied can be a nightmare for yourself and those around you. 1 spray only and not on exposed skin. 1 on the chest and 1 on the wrist at the most. Now, why is it so popular then? It's like walking through Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory. It's a love or hate with A*men, but the drydown alone is worth the price of admission.
This fragrance goes beyond everything. It was a book woul be:The night of wishes by Michael Ende,it is a'alchemy,a magic potion on Christmas Eve where the children waited for their sweet, and now become adults rediscovering these moments in this perfume that smells of chocolate and coffee. The time machine also passes the smell...
VERY LONGEVITY
VERY FANTASTIC
VERY BOOMBASTIC
The very first time I tried this one, I was actually disgusted with the drydown. So much thick sweetness, impossible to bear. Yet, every time I enter a perfume store I just have to try it on. And every single time it keeps smelling better and better.
When i spray it on my arm, I just want to eat my arm. actually tried licking it, didnt taste very well, though.
I definitely am not bold enough, don't have enough self-confidence to wear this one. But I absolutely would not mind this one on a girl.
An awesome and seducing fragrance, not for everyone and really not for many occasions.
Amazing Fragrance , and Girls love it too , it's the perfume girls notice the most to be honest , dont over spray it and dont use it during summer though
i love it on other people but on my skin it smells horrible and very strong and offensive sadly i cant wear it any more !
Sweet, daring, warm! Don't let the blue star fool you, this is definitely a cooler season cologne. If you can't shell out the big bucks for this, there is a dollar store knock-off (Jaroche something or other) that smells hilariously close, for only a dollar! I wouldn't recommend wearing the dollar store version to a wedding or a club, but if you like the smell of A*Men's chocolatey goodness, try dollar tree.
Lot of caramel, vanilla, honey ,chocolat super sweet scent.
U can not wear a men daily .that's for sure.
Wear it in most cold days when u'r going outdoors, maybe skying or something like that.
Never for class, work ,summer or spring.
One shot of a men will give u 12+ hours longevity with a bomb projection!
A*Men is a powerful beast. It makes its presence known with firmness and from a distance. Because of this aggressive nature, it’s most definitely going to cause you to take a strong stance on liking it or hating it. The probability of finding someone that’s indifferent or on the fence about A*Men is so ridiculous, it would be about as probable as finding someone willing to defend the film Battlefield Earth that isn’t a Scientologist. It just won’t happen.
Angel has been considered the fragrance that brought extreme headway to the gourmand style of fragrances. With its thick layerings of dessert-like notes, the original Angel buried the “less is more” philosophy and crammed as much as it could into the scent. To make a grand understatement, it’s intense. The masculine version, A*Men, opted to drop most of the fruit notes, and substitute them with bit of a floral and citrus blend at the start, followed by the chocolaty caramel wave, and finally ending with vanilla, patchouli, and coffee. This is the best of what I can make out, at least. There’s actually an absurd amount more in this, but when you get hit with such a potent onslaught, picking out each individual note has a success rate on par with getting involved in a land war in Asia.
For the most part, you get a powerful mashup of a few very prominent notes, and the rest just float by undetected as your nose recovers from shock. Spraying this stuff is pretty much akin to kicking your nose in the crotch. It’s overwhelming, and for me, initially unpleasant. I find it too aggressive.
Luckily, as it dries down, it becomes much smoother. Still potent as all hell, but in a warm and tasty manner. The base notes of this fragrance are where it really shines. The caramel, vanilla, and chocolate are the most pronounced, but there’s the essence of patchouli hanging out at the sidelines as well. It’s a good thing I enjoy the base notes, since this stuff will last on your skin for a good 12 hours or so, easily.
I can’t think of any other fragrance that compels me to give a warning to people, but I feel this is necessary to anybody unfamiliar with A*Men. You have to be careful with this, not just in terms of how much you spray (Protip: Very little), but proximity as well. I sprayed this on each wrist the other night, one up close, and one farther away, and after about a half hour they were both totally different. The distant spray went into the nice and comfortable chocolate warmth, while the close spray still held on to the aggressive top notes I’m not very fond of, along with and almost burnt tinge. I also must stress that if you plan on spending your day in close confines with other people, such as an office or school, wearing A*Men is about as considerate as just not showering for a few days. Unless you work in a night club or something seedier, I would say it’s too aggressive for a professional setting.
All in all, this is a good fragrance to use in the colder time of the year, and for informal social events where you really want attention drawn to you. Be advised that A*Men throws subtlety out the window, and hopes it will hit someone on the way down. It will get noticed, and due to the style of it, it can just as easily garner negative reactions as it can positive. As an example, any time I would prefer to sleep on my girlfriend’s couch, I can wear A*Men when I visit her, and that just sorts itself out. Spray it at a distance, spray it modestly, and it should work out nicely for you. If you would prefer something subtle, or good for an all around use, this has very little to offer you.
Bought this 15 years ago first time when on vacation in the Canary Islands, am now on the 3rd refill. This is the most distinct perfume I know, it's quite... special. It's very strong too, I wish the spray would dispense a quarter it does. Since I bought this on Gran Canaria A-men is nicknamed "Canaria" in this household :-)
this is my second perfume from Thierry Mugler, first one is B*Men...yes I know B*Men comes way after this perfume, but somehow I like B*men because to me, it is more spicy than A*Men. Back to this perfume, I don't really like the opening...it is too sharp for me, but I let the middle notes take over and I start to like it, and the drydown...wonderful! It makes me feel comfortable, very good perfume!
I love this perfume on the first smell from the sample I got in 1998. I like pleasing aroma of warm coffee and vanilla after. Very powerful and long lasting smell.
A gourmand fragrance in my humble opinion; sensuous, sexy and very appealing to anyone with a sweet tooth! I love this scent and don't care that it is very pronounced in the sweetness department. Not a typical man's scent in the established sense, but elicits many a fine compliment from women nonetheless. Like a flowery shirt, if worn right and with confidence, the juxtaposition of gender 'norms' are often appreciated.
Unisex? It is certainly a male version of Angel already. Yet, it is unquestionable that those men who wears this are those who are courageous enough to tell the world who they are.
Smell of dessert in its first splash. Then, waves of wood and ferns eventually steps it, making it absolutely delightful for the entire day.
Preferable for day use.
I don’t know if its because I am older or if it is because they redid this one since I bought it when it launched but it smells nice. There was something very… unfinished that I remembered about the initial Angel. This however smells creamy, smooth but with a kick and punch that’s very exotic! I prefer my Euphoria ( I wear the one for women) to this since euphoria and Angel are in the same category. Anyway, nice job on this. I was pleasantly surprised that it smells different.
my review below was based off of a memory. this one was based off of my encounter today at Macys.
Ok i really liked the Axe Dark temptation , in the winter time. the girls also liked it ;). then i found out it was a imatation of A*men so went out and bought A*men in a flash!! So the oppening is harsh for the avrage person ! i personally like the opening. After about 1 hour this harsh opening fades away and the chocolat, carmel, mint and honey mix together and leave you with this HEAVENLY/SEXY/WARMING drydown. imagine walking into a pastry bakery during the winter time, and in that bakery ur chewing spearmint gum while smelling the chokolate cakes being baked ! thats what it smells like! This is my winter sig. scent so far! i adore this one! highly recomend it,the ladies will love you!
Projection: intense
Longevity: 18+ hours
smell: to die for
ocation: casual
season:winter
Right, A*Men is sweet and bold indeed. But damn bold. Annoying bold.
That heavy patchouli scent is, also, unattractive to me. Can't help it.
I'm not really sure if this fragrance is Angel's brother or sister, actually. But if you're looking for a strong and sweet fragrance, fella, there you go.
PS: honestly, don't buy it. Leave the sweetness for the girls. Appreciate that.
Angel for men just is not the bomb. Sorry. Angel for women is my favorite womens perfume next to Euphoria for women ( and don’t forget about cool water) anyway, I hate this for men. I was really disappointed too because I think that Angel for women is so stand alone that I was hoping for the same sensation with this… NOT! Its so rambunctious and thick! Ugh. I totally didn’t like it. Its like the cologne that never settles. Gave it away to a friend from Ethiopia who loved it. I was happy to see it go and he was happy to smell like…that! It really made me ill from smelling it. Not a good look.
My naive nostrils were not so lucky to be warned that they were not going to smell an Angel... more like some queen Bee in a remote beehive decided to get f?cked up on chocolate, snorted a couple lines of coffee, then OD on caramel, and got gang raped by skunks.
God damn it's funky; however after a while, within this strong aromatic mess there is an intriguing warm sweet strange smell worthy of respected originality. It absolutely lives up to Thierry Mugler's design aesthetics, beautiful in its bold and odd way.
The hairs on my arm rise to think of anyone applying this on a hot humid day... plz have mercy on us.
Longevity: very long.
I tried this at the Fragrance Shop today....and HATED it!! Its very unique no doubt, but smells awful. Sadly it reminded me of some industrial strength toilet disinfectant (from my childhood days in boarding school). Don't get the hype at all...:(
Yes, Yes, Yes...
Love the "tar note" top notes
Love the "chocolate cake mix" mid notes
Love the "cocoa baking powder" dry down
Awesome!
The woman's angel men isn't much different.. just doesn't have the tar note.
Men's side of A*Men should win "chemical-allergic" award in the industry.
I am for women's Alien (Angel would do too) but men's one... no comment.
I would comment other A*Men scents but copy+pasty will not do any good.
2/10
I love it on my husband!!!! I was longing for the IT perfume for my husband and finally I found the One. He loves it as well coz it's not so overpowering and it's different. He wear it everyday and it's signature smell now :) The chocolate, vanilla, coffee, sandalwood, and milk are the things that would remind me of him. A Men got them all, IN ONE BOTTLE. That the awesome thing about this perfume.
love the smell, not common, different to the others perfumes, long lasting & creative.. i like it very much. refillable, with 2 bottle already.
Smells fantastic! However, if you are on a budget, try Axe Temptation- the poor man's A*men.=>
B*men's older brother is a ratbag that still nuggies and wet-willies him. A*men is still a big child at heart and just wants to stir up the authorities and cause chaos.
I can see a relationship between the two. It seems as though B*men was set on a mission to pull his mischievous sibling into gear with a stern backbone, that is outside o fighting crime. Do not let them spend too much time together in one room, they're just too noisy and obnoxious and they do not get along. Any room is better off dealing with just one.
A*men will always be the boisterous, dominant, yet reliable elder, without insult or jealousy.
A*men is fantasically gourmand, with cappuccino, chocolate, milk, beeswax, tonka and the woods being immediately apparent. Most other notes are subtle and the fruity notes barely noticeable, to my nose, making it essentially a gourmand fragrance.I don't consider it oriental woody, I class at a creamy food fragrance, sweets being the main attraction.
The projection of this masterpiece is powerful and in control, not offensive but more intimidating. That said, I would recommend to anyone who loves Black XS, Boss Soul, Ralph Polo Double Black, or if you love D&G the One for it's smoky dominance.
I really dig this scent even though I agree that it is not the most versatile scent out there. It is strong, longlasting, and has great sillage that many people can appreciate. To me, the opening is very minty but I don't think that the strong opening is as unbearable as many say but I do agree that the dry down of the scent is a masterpiece. I get plenty of chocolate, caramel, vanille, and mint in this fragrance.

Ah Angel Men, what to say what to say?...Alright folks let's face it, if you have ever smelled this you will know that Angel Men is either a love or hate kind of scent. It has minty chocolate & a powdery effect on your skin. I own this fragrance and I like it, eh about 2 hours after it's been put on my skin. It honestly never really wears off so thats great for you who love it, & horrible for those who don't.
Strong and dense, and almost gourmand. What I get out of A*Men are (condensed) milk, chewy caramel, coffee beans, honey, white floral, musky amber, and sandalwood. All of these wraps around pachouli. It's not something I could wear all the time, but it's a nice welcome, and it's great to wear something out of ordinary once in a while. If you like sweet and heavy scent. Give A*Men a try. It'll either blow your mind or make you wish you never laid your hand on this crazy creation. FYI, this is not a starter gourmand fragrance! And it takes me a while to like this.
The dry down is heavenly, but that tar note is ridiculous haha it takes 5 hours for it to go away. givenchy play intense is a better opinion its pretty much a*men without the tar note and more coffee :)
Wow! I love this fragrance! If you can tolerate that initial tar note for the first few moments, then you will enjoy the chocolate, mint, caramel vibe on this one.The projection is a monster. The longevity on me is 10 plus hours on my skin easily.A must buy for you guys out there that want a fragrance that shouts HEY!!!! to your nose.
unisex fragrances , best for cold night, insaneee longevity!
Why anyone would want to smell like this is beyond me. It's too confusing. Imagine a guy that works at Starbucks in the morning, then works the later shift of Jamba Juice. Smell his shirt at the end of the day. :(
Just got this today and upon first whiff it was very...strange. I haven't smelled a fragrance like this before and like Dior Fahrenheit, Angel Men seems to be a "niche fragrance trapped in a designer's bottle." The opening of this is very intense and the tar note stands outs quite a bit. The tar never actually leaves, even in the dry down where you get the chocolate vibe, that tar note is still present. This is what kind of bothers me about this scent: the tar note. Because of the tar note, the fragrance never quite "smooths" out and that tar can get annoying at time. you think : "I just want to smell the chocolate..NOT tar mixed with chocolate." Aside from the tar note, this is a truly unique fragrance and I would consider this very much a niche caliber scent. The longevity and projection on this is excellent, so be very careful with the trigger. As far as versatility goes, I don't see this as being very versatile fragrance, partly because of its incredible projection and longevity. In the office it would be very loud and for such a non-mainstream, non-run of the mill scent(*ahem* Aqua di Gio)I can see how people can get offended by it. I wouldn't recommend this fragrance for those who are starting to get into fragrance or for those starting to get into gourmands. This is a very complex and rough gourmand...try Rocahs Man or Hanae Mori HM if you are just starting to get into gourmands and build your way up to Angel Men.

A surprisingly good unisex for a confident man or woman. This is a melange of notes that blends into an altogether pleasing scent--sophisticated and unexpected. It opens floral with notable spiciness and gradually warms to caramel and coffee with honey smoothing the transition. After several hours it settles into a mellow incense and coffee blend with occasional hints of spice and flowers.
Sillage starts extremely strong then settles into a rather close body after about half an hour. If you want the high sillage (dancing?) you will need to reapply about every 45 minutes but be careful or you will end up smelling like a 90's fern bar full of smoke and Brut. If you want the subtle drydown apply about half an hour in advance. The close sillage lasts for hours.

Being unforgettable is the boldest treat of this scent. Impossible to forget that cinemmon and vanilla as they perform here. You get lots of compliments on it for sure.
It opens boozy and too hot and continues with a same resinous pattern. In spite of its exaggerated warm and sticky manner, it's so gentle and calm. A touch of cinnamon and vanilla makes it a little tropical and reduces seriousness and roughness. just because of this, it lacks sexiness a little but still so charming and alluring.
I prefer on casual out night parties. For official occasions it's good if you be a visitor and not the host, I mean not in your office.

this is definitely my new favorite. I cannot stop smelling my arm every time I use it. It smells delicious and lasts ridiculously long on my skin compared to the other fragrances that I have.
This is my favorite cologne for a bunch of reasons:
1. The longevity is insane.
2. The sillage is insane.
3. The smooth, chocolate/carmel drydown is insane.
4. The opening note of tar that many complain about is, in my opinion, a great scent if applied correctly.
5. I have received more compliments with this than any other cologne.

Coffee Sweet, an excellent fragrance and girls dig it :)
this masterpiece got a strong memory connection with me, first i hate it so much, i thought who wants to smell like this?
in the end, i love this fragrance so much, a squirt for all day is enough.
A*MEN is dark, mature and arrogant, which is SO MUCH FUN. lol
This is really love-or-hate frag. I know many people who use it every day from release. Personally, I can't stand those cloying terribly sweet caramel-coffee-lavender notes. But who cares, I have some perfumes that I adore and people around me just can't stand it, so wo cares. The bottle is awesome.
this is love or hate frag.
kinda harsh on first spray.
but the dry down is to die for.
longevity is amazing, all day on my skin, even if i had a shower at night, i can still detect the chocolatey, caramely, yummy smell on me.

When I first read the notes of this fragrance I thought God, who would want to smell like that? Tar? But as I have learned the notes are only half the scent and until you smell it, and see how it is mixed and how it develops you cannot judge it. A*Men has made me much more open-minded about fragrances in general...
*Thank you, ArkangeL for the generous sample of this delicious fragrance!!*
Mugler has created a stunning consort for his favorite lady, Angel with this scent. It begins brightly with greens, mint and bergamot surronded by a fruity herbal type of smell and the lavender is barely perceptible until the top notes subside, and blooms more fully in the midnotes. Then the lush heart of gourmand treasures greets the nose (honey, milk, carmel) with the added woody strength of cedar, the green sheer floralcy of muguet and a lovely patchouli. This is so different from any other cologne I've worn and I just adore it! The dry down is where its oriental nature becomes apparent with sandal, more patchouli, tonka, benzoin and vanilla. The musk, coffee and amber make it dark, rich and oh so SEXY!
Sillage: very good
Longevity: excellent
Overall: 4.75/5 Stunning!
I too, was an avid comic book reader as a child and teenager, so this ad campaign really appealed to me. Albeit 10 years after everyone else. This is something a superhero would sport, I believe. It has great sillage, strength, and longevity, and and a mysterious almost otherworldly feel. I don't get the tar note others complain of, just a dark, heavy smoky note I find very appealing-if this is what TM's hero wears I would love to smell what he 'os-magines' for the villain!
This is my all time favourite fragrance.Everytime i wear it the women always coment saying what a lovely smell. Its very chocolatly and caramel in smell, and lasts absoulutly ages, i mean a few squirts and thats it on all day,FAB,
Now when I first smelled this years ago I said WTH IS THIS???? it was wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy to strong & overpowering.. But then after it settled & I said ok.. I can somewhat tolerate this! But it smells to much like chocolate & coffee! Which of coffee I dont like to smell like. It also bares some chemical smell which almost makes me want to give this a thumbs down... @ any rate. The longevity of this is awesome! 2 days! & for that I give it a neutral rating! Winter frag no doubt!
Finally Finally i got the 1.7oz today for around 51 euros. This is my second encounter with this dude and i am surprised that the longevity in this bottle is higher then the previous one,i wore it around 6pm evening and still i feel it allover, this makes me think that my first bottle was over matured or i cant figure..
But in the end i am happy with this buy !
i love this on some of my friends,
but on me it doesn't work.
end up smelling all the wrong elements.
Potent formula, definetely not for anyone. This one seduces women by far.
I like this one: the smell it's a bit synthetic at first but the middle notes are more natural (I think). This fragrance it's so powerful , you cans spray 2 times and will last all day. Great smell, very modern
Well, I am a woman and wearing A men is very strange. But I love it. Comforting scent, not at all artificial- at least to my nose. Not a masterpiece, but an Inoubliable poison! Thank you, Thierry!!
TOP PRODUCT..BEST OF ALL MUGLER'S. Tried pure coffee and composition wears off fast unlike this classic one which last much longer and yet awesome dry down. I'm keen to try pure malt and if it's as good as this or better, I won't hesitate buying it. Out of my 40's collections this one hell of a great fragrance.
and enough of this "you have to be confident or have a big ego to wear this" whatever your personility, when you wear this your body chemistry will make it your own!
Hmmm well, i must try this again as when i first smelt it, it was like curry powder and soil, yeah nasty!,but i had the same reaction to angel for women, when i first smelt it, to me it smelt like britney spears' believe but with a dirty sweaty piece of rotting wood hanging right in the middle of it, on my second try it didnt repulse me but i still wasnt getting it really, now i wear angel all of the time, no more sweaty logs!! so i am going to try this again, i really want to like this and smell its wonderfull caramel, chocolate and coffee, yummmmyyyy!
This EDT is very interesting notes too much cacophony, input your notes are dry and even perceived a strong smell, bitter and slightly sour, middle notes change their sweetest notes and collecting dry wood, sweet tones, which can cloying. Its base notes are sweet woods.
I personally almost never say, but I do not recommend this fragrance for nothing, is like a very bad version of some similar fragrances like Paco Rabanne One Million, or Emporio Armani Diamonds for Men by Giorgio Armani that are not actually my favorite scents , have good quality in its structure. The notes of this fragrance is powerful and even intimidating perceived. Not recommended.

Lonegvity? Is really Weird on my skin.
8/10
yes.
10/10 I love this scent!
starts of right away with a carameling cotton candy thing. by floral green notes and citrus matures it from other scents like blue sugar. then a slight notes of darek chocolate bounce in and out through out the scent.
longevity - 8/10 (8 - 12 hours)
projection 5/10 (sorta mysterious! ;)
warm bright fresh modern happy sexy and sweet, A*Men makes for a perfect signature scent!
A*Men is the male equivalent of Angel, to put it bluntly. It has all that chocolatey goodness with a touch more richness to give it that masculine touch.
If Angel is milk chocolate, A*Men is dark, bitter chocolate. I dare say that I prefer A*Men over the very controversial and very popular Angel.
Despite the fact that this fragrance has been emulated many times, for example, Very Irresistible for Men by Givenchy, this is a truly unforgettable scent.
A*Men is somewhat linear. Throughout most of its wear it smells like a perfect blend of golden syrup, dark chocolate, coffee, musty patchouli, lavender and rich amber.
Only in the drydown does it change ever so slightly into a musky, chocolate powder type scent.
A*Men intrigued me with its darkness and rich chocolatey notes which you don't expect to smell on a man. All men seem to wear these days are those predictable fresh and citrusy scents. It was nice to smell A*Men for a change.
If you're looking for a stronger, more classic version of A*Men, I do recommend the classic Tsar by Van Cleef & Arpels. It has that strong chocolate note without the sweetness.
Talking about strength, A*Men lasts for a very long time. The sillage is also phenomenal, very strong, so beware. I wouldn't be game enough to wear this in Summer, but for Winter, despite its popularity, it is a wonderfully unique and sensual choice. I urge the ladies not to dismiss wearing this fragrance either. Do not let the name fool you into thinking it is just for men.
A*Men is spicy, velvety-smooth, rich, creamy vanilla-hazelnut coffee. It is caramel coated and dripping with honey. Cedar, mint and bergamot add cool crispness to this sweet, musky blend. The hearty dose of earthy patchouli, lavender and "green notes" inject A*Men with a strong and invigorating masculinity.
A*Men is a sublime "masculine" interpretation of Angel. Like Angel, A*Men has strength, character and style. This is a powerfully potent concoction. A*Men's big ego MUST be matched by an equally ostentatious personality. This Eau De Toilette has impressive sillage, range and depth. He goes for hours....
I bought it today, and I love it. It has sweet, gourmand notes, but it becomes masculine with the musky, sandalwood notes. It kind of smells like Angel for Women though.
I finally got to try this. I have had B*men for some time and always wanted to try its brother fragrance.
Well, I'm glad I have B*men and not A*Men, for A*men is vastly inferior in my opinion. Yes it is very sweet in a synthetic vanilla kind of way. I once found 1.7 oz of synthetic vanilla fragrance oil in a cheap variety store. It cost me $3. It is very caramel-like smelling and strong. Add some patchouli to it and a few other ingredients and essentially you have A*men. I made a fragrance that smells just like this by messing around with essential and fragrant oils. It is nothing special and even a little offensive (and liable to nauseate susceptible people).
When i first read a review of A*Men, i wanted test it right away...since Thierry Mugler scent is not that popular here so its very rare to find it in stores..
Last nite i bumped in to it while i was taking a flight to Tawau, via Kota Kinabalu Airport (note to self, if i want to find any perfume..i should just go to the airport!!!)...it was here all along!!! DAMN!!!
i took the bottle and spray it on my wirst...then, DISAPPOINTMENT!!! it was chocolate with a sharp woody smell...ermmm...then i left the counter and i cant help it to smell it over and over again on my wirst..its a scent that u will try to love...and at the end I LOVE IT!! but not recommended in the tropical/sunny area, basically this is a winter perfume or you are staying in a air condition room...this perfume had a MONSTER projection and trails for the whole day...be careful with the sprayer...:o)
A stronger, much less re refind version of Guerlain Bois d'Armenie. Compare these two yourself, and you will se!! I enjoy this one a lot!
this? popular among men? that's a surprise for me... i tought this is more feminine than masculine. i kinda like it actually...
the opening was rather soft and easy going vanilla kind of smell... but then...here comes attack of the coffee! very strong coffee and pepper. the dry down was caramel chocholate coffee combo on me. yum~ if i can stand that strong middle notes that is...
I'm torn on this one. I've avoided it for over a decade because if its popularity. So, here in April 2010, I finally test this one out. Well, it's not bad. But it's not to my taste, either. Yes, it's intense. But that's not what's bothering me. It's extremely spicy, in addition to already being sweet. I like my gourmands to be rather mellow and laid-back. I prefer D&G 11 La Force for a vanilla, overall. But I'm not dismissing A*Men as a bad fragrance. It's very good, especially during the drydown and it's a sillage MONSTER. 1-2 sprays should last for +8 hours. It doesn't suit me, but I still like it.
UPDATE: once this settles down for real, it's stunning. I could totally wear this. But there's this thought of someone coming up to me and saying, "So you like A*Men, too, ha?" that bothers me. Like I said before, I'm torn on this one. I take pride in my individuality, especially in my fragrances. But this is tempting.... We'll see......
Milk-Caramel-Cofee-Patchouli and Mint! What a unique and risky combination and A-Men Work them Soooo well!
When I try A*men I thought this had some incense note, but I was wrong, so maybe i believe the honey and coffee part can cause this incense-feeling.
A*man mint notes are powerful but they are tempered by the other notes in the scent. The powerlasting is beautiful, A*man will never leave you, can last all day, this is the reason why you should have to apply just a little.
I know this is a ultra sweet fragrance, but this doesn't mean lack of masculinity, this fragrance is very virile!
This fragrance blew me away as I never smelled anything like it before. Very intense for the first 30-60 minutes when applied but the drydown is amazing. Sweet chocolate, caramel, coffee, mint, and lavender. Less is more 2-3 sprays tops. Great sillage and it last 8-10 hours on my skin. You have to be bold to wear this. 10/10.
WTF! This stinks! First impression upon application of a tester this morning was chocolate mentholatum. PU! Never again! If I had had the time I would have taken another shower to wash off the stink.
I first purchased for my husband B man (now discontinued) and we liked it a lot, before he finished that one I got him a bottle of Angel men. At first I wasn't sure if I like it but now I do. However, I still like B man much better. It is more wearable and masculine than Angel. He keeps reaching for B Man and has 1/4 of a bottle left. If I see another bottle of B Man I will purchase it without hesitation.
Ughhh!! This fragrance is SO cloying and tar smelling. I barely get any chocolate, all I smell is burnt tar and patchouli. I gave this multiple honest tries, I tried to like it. I can't stand this scent and I am sure it smells amazing on some ppl but this is probably the most repulsive scent I have ever worn. HOWEVER I have smelled the bottle/sprayer at the stores and I love that smell, straight up chocolate.
The second I spray it on, I feel crazily powerful and unbelievably confident. And it never, never fails to get me scores of compliments. (Interesting note: I'm not a big patchouli fan, but I love how my shirts have a low-humming patchouli affixed to them days later after wearing A*Men.) A stunning, memorable scent.
I can only see someone wearing it in the winter, at nightime. It is sweet, strong and powerful and I actually do find it sexy. As many have mentioned honey, vanilla, caramel and coffee notes are most prominent. Although it is like an Angel for men, I think I would rather wear A*men than Angel lol. I think A*men is one of a kind, not many men would dare to wear it!
Caramel and chocolate punch me in the face. Truly and deeply gourmand at its best :)
A*Men is cloyingly sweet yet creative. I fully admit Thierry Mugler's talent to have created such a powerful juice. But I have to say NO to this fragrance.
If I were to name this juice, I would call this one "(TRULY)ONLY THE BRAVE" lol :P
In short: Longevity of Angel is incredibly lying somewhere like 12+ hours to infinity. lol
Cheers,
I wanted to like this one but I found it so overpowering and repulsive. I tried it in all different ways, 1 spray on neck, 1 on chest, 1 on wrists, and combinations of all those. Every time it was too much for me, even with only one spray. It didn't get me any compliments either. All the girls at work who smelled it on me said it was strange and didn't like it. Well i'll go with what the ladies like. Oddly enough, I adore Ice*Men as its nowhere near as potent as this stuff. So don't be afraid to try that one if you don't care for A*Men.
We have to recognize one thing about this fragrance, it broke the mold. In the history of fragrances there is a "before A*MEN" and "after A*MEN", it was so different then, but today there are literally hundreds of fragrances that follow the lead from A*MEN and it is not such a novelty anymore. It has been surpassed by others and actually it does not do aything for me. Blue Sugar from Aquolina is very similar but far far superior, it kinda softens the hard edges of A*MAN so BS is not so rough, so agressive, it is more pleasant. If you like this scent, try BS and you will be very satisfied. And it is a lot cheaper to boot
Chocolate, coffee, carmel and so on, but...i totally love it. I like sweet scents but this gourmand is the best. Everyone used to tell me how great i smell. Girls used to call it "sweetie" and my buddies used to borrow it before going out to the club. Use it during cold weather because it will show it's true nature only then. Spray 2-3 times, otherwise you'll die and with you the civilisation within 1km radius. Lasting time is in my case great - 7-8 hours and you could smell it after dancing in a crowdy place, with lots of cigarette smoke inside. Spraying with A*men is like puting on a chocolate scarf, and we all know girls like candies, don't we? :)
Who would have thought that caramel, milk, lavender, mint and bergamot would make a great combination? But it is! The top and middle notes are wonderful!
This is gorgeous, from top to bottom. I definitely smell the caramel and honey, as well as the coffee, musk, vanilla and amber. The dry down is at once bitter and sweet, burnt and warm, green and powdery. It. is. heavenly. Plus, it contains my favorite note of all, patchouli. The amber in there softens it all and balances all of the bottom notes beautifully.
I *love* A*Men. But that isn't a surprise as I love most of Thierry Mugler's creations.
I personally don't like the moment you spray it on, but after that its the best fragrance i have ever smelled.
5/5 !!
campycamp i totally agree !!
A*MEN is indeed heavenly and the dry down is a little weird but yet 5/5 !!!
about the 24 hours , on me it went for only about 10 or 12 hours !!!
yet still magnificent !! it broke my wardrobe record for the longest lasting perfume !
This is the frag that turned my world upside down. It's very complex: sometimes it smells like tar-coffee, other times like milky-caramel or chocolate-coffee latte. This changes all the time. If you're into gourmand scents, you have to OWN this!!!
it's like love it or kill it. nothing in between. unique? thinking how popular it is and spots selling this product - no. sexy? if you imagine a cute guy - may be, if a fat ugly man - noup! sweet? too sweet that people in surround cannot stay close. pleasant? no way! legend? absolutely.
I love it no matter what from the yaer the fragrance met the world.
it's best suitable during cold winter weather!!! the sillage is powerful!!!
My signature winter fragrance. Genius product.
This is a love or h8 scent.
One reason of h8, people overdose it or spray so closer which makes not evolving and becoming sickly sweet.
Perfumes should be sprayed min 10 cm away, but this must be sprayed min 20 cm away and 1 spray is enough on both neck sides.
I love it, it smells so delicious.
Very potent almost all street smells like u when u wear it!
Sweet and warm woody drydown.
great smell how many guy scents have chocolate like this but its VERY potent
if this is too pricey 4 u try creation lamis diable bleu thats what i got and its the same great scent for a MUCH lower price and larger bottle
In a world of male fragrances which love to blend in(to) the background and be oh so (olfactory) correct, this male fragrance dares to be Different, dares to be Big and dares to be Bold. Love it or hate it. A pirate among sailors, a vagabond a rebel. It's the lovable, mischievous pirate Jack Sparrow and not the cute clean boy (whats his name??) It leaves many confused, others infatuated and some loathing it. This is what makes this male fragrance so great: no one is indifferent to it. Simply one of the greatest, a modern classic, a REBEL with a huge HEART.
It is one of the most cleverly crafted male scents out there. After the initial blast (which is powerful and has a hint of tar in it), this demon of an angel starts settling into something really special, sweet (in a masculine way), earthy and deep.
Definitely not suitable for every skin (or character), but if it mixes well on your skin then it mixes fantastically (as I said before, it's Hero or Zero, no in between). When I have it on it draws compliments and smiles from those around me. On the Latin dance floor, when I wear this, some girls don't simply dance with me, they bond with me, with their noses buried deep in my neck.
Love it or Hate it? I choose to Love it... a lot!
Tip: with A*Men less is actually more.
longest lasting thing to come out since grey flannel!smells alot better tho.but they stole the smell from animale animale which came out before this.check it out for yourself.
This one is my favorite cologne, the sweet chocolatey, caramel, coffee and vanilla blend so well together. It is defeniteley one of a kind and although most say to wear it in winter, i like to wear it anytime of the year, mostly at night. Its very strong and lasts hours which surprised me because my skin doesnt allow cologne to last too long usually, I dont usually spray more that 2 sprays because of how strong it is and how much it projects. It is definetely a love it or hate it type but the problem with this cologne is when people smell it on a test strip they dont like it much, I didnt the first time, but I tried it on my skin anyway and began to really like it, so I bought it and now love it! If youre interested, test it on your skin, give it a chance and see if you get to like it after wearing it a few hours.
For me A*Men is a comic world Villain while the B*Men is raised to save Mugler's comic world as a Superhero... The severe and intense -ve affect of A*Men could only be revived by B*Men and nothing else...
For me A*Men is a "hate" symbol and to love it you have to get B*Men.
A*Men is simply a junk drink of caramel, coffee and chocolate... while B*Men no doubt has a burning sugar aroma and coffee touch but with bearable amount and manly affect that is blended well with spicy and woody notes.
I tested both deeply on each hand with generous amount... as a result and matter of fact, I was trying to keep my hand away from my nose where I have sprayed A*Men while I really admired sniffing the forearm where I have splashed B*Men.
No doubt A*Men is better in power and silage but only if you want to feel like a COSTA AD of COFFEE in VANILLA & CARAMEL flavor... yakhhhhhhhhh....!!!
very few scents dry into chocolate this is definately a great drydown but u gotto leave a good 2 to 4 hours til it starts working with ur body chem for the scent to start workin
Like the post under mine, I agree, that there is nothing in this perfume, that can stimulate me to have it on. It is disgusting, although the bottle is gorgeous, the scent is like a mud or dirt, like old veterans from the war placed in a nursery home. Burned and dirty, I can't even say, that it is classic or too heavy male fragrance. I like sweet fragrances, especially in the winter, but this one is way too much for me to stand it.
Sorry, but i can't find one thing i like about A-men. Its over the top,to sweet, to many elements i prefer in my cup to drink or to digest (chocolate, caramel and coffee).
It smells, stinks, like burning sugar, totally confusing and utterly unwearable. To my nose just a sickly sweet stench. It's only good as a breathtaking deterrent to keep everything living and breathing on a safe and sure distance of 25 metres.
If you wear this one to work, your collegues will bring out the peck and feathers, and throw you out over the city borders....
no doubt about that.....
Just wait until you have tried the new A*Men Pure Malt edition.. I got my bottle today and I'm blown away... i'll always have a place in my heart for the original A*Men its a daring fragrance, it takes guts to wear it, Its a love it or hate it scent but an absolute classic.
Strong and deep! I love its unique character! Its really long lasting and sweet perfume.
I CANT stand this horrifying cologne! Its got to be one of the worst scents ive even been unfortunate to experience. Its a horrible mix of way too much different things! Gosh i hate it. But its still not as horrifying as Angel! Thats probably the worst fragrance ive ever smelled!
If there's a word to describe A*Men, it's ohmygod. That's an absolute classic, in a gender of its own.
Its top notes last nothing. Which, honestly, is of little importance. I feel the twingey tones of bergamot and lavender only when I first spray it. Then, like 30 seconds after, they're gone and tar, chocolate, caramel and every sweet substance you can find takes place, alongside with a heavenly patchouli that slowly grows over them.
Some will hate A*Men, and I can't get it, even though, like any classic, there's the love it or hate it thing. Some would find this perfume too feminine because of its sweetness. I can't agree. It's so well balanced and austere in keeping a perfect blend - and that's something I associate with good gentleman scents. Plus, there's a nasty, dirty BO note underlying its lifetime that can only be masculine. For instance, this BO effect is so strong in B*Men that I find it nearly unwearable. But in A*Men it's just essencial in keeping balance. Just like jazz needs dissonant chords to feel alive and harmonic.
Now, any A*Men lover knows it, you should NEVER spray it more than ONCE. With one spray you get a balanced, non-overpowering aura. Giving it 2 sprays or more will keep any living being from getting any closer than 50 meters from you. Add to that one of the longest perfume lifetimes I've seen (but it still doesn't beat Joop! Homme).
So, know how to dose and use it, learn how to match it with your clothes and behaviour to create a mysterious, sexy, playful persona. You'll be rewarded with some curious girls' neckturns and random compliments.
Well..A men is
Thierry mugler's one of the best creations...
at first it seems like chocolate sauce with caramel candy...
but later as it dries down.. it gets more woody n aromatic...
get it on... be ready for compliments..
A definite head turner..
10/10 for it ..
I wore this as an alternative to the Angel perfume, which everybody wore. I think it is suitable for a girl, I loved the tar, leather and coffee smell... and guys certainly liked it on me. I would not wear it again, but I really like it. Sadly, my boyfriend does not like it so he won't wear it.
This fragrance is lovely and crucial. Famous and outstanding. You cannot get any sweeter than Angel. it is refined and maybe the most important edt of the 90's.
Cappucino with incense!
Oh, how clever this scent is! So like Angel, but where the gourmand chocolate/vanilla softness of the feminine version just keeps coming, here a spicy undertone builds very softly, without every being too dry or rasping.
I find the whole 'smelling like a cookie' aspect of modern perfumery very curious. Chocolate and vanilla were long considered aphrodisiacs, particularly for women; is this why so many of us love the suffusing rounded sweetness of Angel? many men love the smell of Angel on me; on themselves they are less sugar inclined. No way do they want to smell like home baking!
In A*Men, the gourmand element is elegantly curtailed and balanced with spice and patchouli; a scent for a man with confidence in his own allure, A*Men is something of a hedonist. I can't imagine a man wearing it in the office. Like its angelic sister, A*men comes into its own at night or in cooler weather. Unlike the beautiful blue star, it hasn't been overdiscovered - yet!
@ ahmed ehab: I think it's ok to use it at night (not so hot night though). I live in a tropic country so I do not have winter. One warning though, this one is very controversial, some might love it dearly, some might hate it guts, so be sure to try on your skin, wait at least 8hrs before you decide to buy it.
Hope this help
heey, ive seen that this scent has a high rating for winter so does that mean that it wont be nice for summer and like hot waether but at night not in the morning ?????? i dont want it to be over powering so is it good fo night in summer ?????
yeah very rarely do i find a cologne with CHOCOLATE in it so this is a must have, i got the diable bleu so i wouldnt have to wait 8 hours for it to smeell good and paid 10 but this is a MUST HAVE scent for the night club its very edgy and chicks love it
Too caramelish sweet and strong. It smells cheap because of the sugary note associated with the vanilla. If it hadn't been for this note, it would have been a great woody-incense-vanilla scent. It is also very common, and I do not know why many men in my country use it in the hot summer days. This one is not for that even if applied sparingly.
I get patchouli right away, along with caramel, milk and honey. The sweet notes don't stick around long. After that youre left with patchouli and musk. It's very sharp and has a body odor note... kinda odd... like some guy went on an eating binge and scarfed down 50 carmelo bars and raided a bag of sugar then the sweat from all that work started to mix with the musk that he put on that morning!
This one is not that bad IMO. Actually, it'll smell so good if there's no "cat pee"-spicy effect interfere with the sweet chocolate smell in the dry down. Not as unique though since this is the smell of most Oriental Woody fragrances.
I prefer B men to A men.but about description..
at the first sniff it's masculine and just a bit sweet.I think it gets it's masculine power and sharpness from bergamot and lavendar.
but after less than 5 minutes it becomes so damn sweet.it's the same smelling of angel.I really can't recognize if it's a man perfume or female one!
I can't take a woman who wears sweet to this extend,so obviously a man would be untakeable!
Today I felt like visiting a long lost friend. That friend being A*Men.
It was nice to be surrounded by the creaminess and sweetness of this fragrance. Just a short spritz is all you need. As I was walking to work today, I kept getting a smell of the scent. The smell cause me to have a craving for a Caramel Macchiato from Starbucks.
Every once in awhile it is nice to be able to catch up with a long lost friend. I am glad I have kept this fragrance in my collection since its release in the late '90's.
just one word:LEGEND!!!!!!!!
Very strog at first! after 2 hours is creamy, delicious -> yummy! Long lasting, unique, warm on the skin, it goes to "imaginary world", everything..! Superb! (but not everyone likes it)! Le Male and A*men - No.1 for me.
Delicious, foody and woody, but can be easily overpowering.
I wear this. I wear it on the weekends and I wear it to bed, because I'm just not brave enough to wear a well-known men's fragrance in public. To me the original Angel smells like it's missing something. Whatever it is, A*Men's got it.
When you close your eyes and inhale, you get the bergamot first, tartly fruity over the wood, coffee and caramel.
But I don't get as excited about trying to pick out each note as I do about the combination of these smells.
The total effect here is midnight mass at a cathedral. It's thick incense, rich and inspiring, and a bit dark.
The scent is more masculine than feminine, its true, but mostly it's just rich and sensuous. This stuff just smells good.
It can create a lot of debate of it sweetness
but *de gustibus non est disputantum*
very strong but nice and mistical fragrance
masculine, virile, complex and sweet. not for every man and should be used with care. even 2 sprays could be overpowering. should never be sprayed on clothes because it lasts forever on them :)
Not for anyone. Just for me...!
This is for me the Angel created for men. Just like the women's version it can create a lot of debate, due to the sweetness of it.
Not unpleasant, although tenacious, it does turn heads wherever it goes (of approval and disapproval).
I personally prefer BMen - more woody and somehow more manly.
This is my favorite perfume, because its so different to the others perfumes.
its a great fragrance. Its the only perfume I never recommend because I want to be the only who wears it,
MMMMM i'm not sure about thierry mugler's fragrances mans and womans they are so plastic so laboratory fragrances except cologne which i found it very green fresh and irresistible
You should have ( at least ) one. Uniquely sweet, modern, strong. So damn attractive.
My favourite...not common at all, very warm on the skin...it has the right point of sweetness,it lasts for hours and it is not absolutely feminine...I think is a perfume for a confident men and absolutely uncommon and not banal
Ewww.... too sweet even to be a perfume. It smells like sugar and extremely feminine. Either you will like it or you will hate it. Personally I would absolutely not recommend this cologne.
Very hypnotic, addictive and unisex
