Alien spreads mysterious aura, and it claims the right to that already by its name. Thirteen years after the huge success of Angel, Thierry Mugler has decided to challenge the perfumery world once again.

Alien is a magic elixir captured in a bottle in the shape of a strange object, reminiscent of philosophers’ stone or some warlock object of a deep and mysterious purple color. Its woman has to be a bit of a witch.

The creators of Aline based the composition on three main lines: warm white amber in the base, woodsy notes in the heart, and sunny Indian jasmine in the top.

Alien was launched in 2005. Alien was created by Dominique Ropion and Laurent Bruyere.

Alien Fragrance Reviews

I received a mini of this and although I'm not a floral person, this was wearable. But I don't know if that's because jasmine is the least noxious floral for me. Alien to me is a more mature fragrance. When I put it on, I actually felt it was more suitable for my mother or my sister-in-law's mother. It actually reminded me of one of their signature fragrances. One of the few florals not to give me a headache. And it's weird, but to me, it smells purple, like a whiff of a grape hardcandy or grape flavoured cold/cough medicine. It made me think that the bottle was absolutely appropriate. Sillage was decent, it's very floral, and I wouldn't mind if someone other than me was wearing it.

Alien Rose, Alien and Womanity are three of the most awkward, lumbering, gauche fragrances I can think of. Anything from TM accosts me with a tremendous migraine, dizziness and nausea within seconds of applying a small amount. This can't be good. Smell is more in our brains than our noses, which is also the place where migraines, dizziness and nausea originate (usually). Different does not always mean good.

I don't understand how this can smell nice on anyone. On my skin it smells sickeningly sweet, dirty (in a bad way), synthetic and way too strong. I gave it a fair chance by not washing it off and enduring the headache and feeling of sickness that it gave me until this suffocating smell disappeared on its own (which took a long, long time), hoping it would turn better, but no. It's just terrible!

NOW THIS IS GETTING MORE AND MORE STRANGE!
Three years ago, when I heard about Mugler fragrances,I was like:"Yuck, who can wear that without having a head/stomach/brain...ache?"
Today,I'm VERY PROUD to announce I'm a big fan of Alien and Angel La Rose...Yes,not one,but TWO PERFUMES from Mugler house allready in my tiny collection! All I can say is:

ALL OTHER PERFUMES I HAVE ARE LIKE WATER FOR ME NOW!

Big test: One spritz of this insane jasmine scent on my hand then had to bathe my little 2 months old "donut" - Naty...After all that bubbling and soaping,my hand still smells like...aliens giving me a huge bouquet of jasmine flowers!!!

I smell addiction!!!!!!!!

I finally gave this one to try. It was an interesting experience. When I first sprayed it on my wrist, it smelled like plasticky permanent marker. I was considering going to the restroom to wash it off, but that bad smell went away and was replaced with something beautiful. I think a lot of perfumes smell nice, but rarely do I find one that I call beautiful. Even though the perfume is made of 3 notes, it is a distinct floral perfume and I like it. 1-2 sprays is all you need, I think.

So disappointed by this one. By reading description, I thought I found The One for me. But alas, some problems. First, apparently I don't like Jasmine all that well. Secondly, along with the Jasmine it smelled synthetic to me. Yes, like plastic. So this didn't sound right. The dry down was powdery old lady. None of this matched my expectation, so I tried it again.

Same thing. Boo. Oh, and the fade was uber fast. 5 hours. Not acceptable at any price, especially this one. Angel sticks with me so I just don't get it...

beautiful, sexy, exotic, MYSTERIOUS scent. It leaves a beautiful trail of powdery, woody incense-like jasmine, only SLIGHTLY sweet and very feminine and sophisticated. It's a perfume for an elegant, classy, confident woman, it will make you feel like an exotic queen of a far off land. It's very other-worldy smelling, makes me think of taking a walk on the moon and what that might smell like, haha. Or like the smell of freshly fallen snow...mmmm. Alien is a perfect name for this perfume and the purple bottle suits it perfectly. It's a very unique jasmine scent, you won't find anything else like it. But yes it is STRONG, TWO sprays will do (otherwise it will be sickening to you and those around you) and it will LAST you a whole day and a half, seriously! This has to be the longest lasting perfume I've ever tried!!! And the sillage is amazing. It's awesome....maybe not for everyone, but definitely for me!

Ahh Alien...two words "Two Sprays" that is all you'll need b/c it is strong! any more && your askign for a headache. Thierry Mugler is a master of interesting UNIQUE Scents, && Alien is deff. Out there!

I'd say anyone who wants to smell diff. should deff. give "Alien" a try it has great longevity & Projection like its sister && will deff. draw in the compliments. I'm sure it will smell amazing on the right person. I wish Thierry had made an Alien for Men, but I can proudly say I wear this sometimes && I surely get asked what are you wearing? Hey if you like it wear it, && if your interested try it!

BTW: Alien Sunessence (all of them) are also quite enjoyable give them a try to. :)

Alien what I am going to say about you sweetheart !
you are the one who completes me who melts with my body as a part of me :)

(UNIQUE)In this page you can read this word and believe it ..

I love the whole concept of this perfume , the bottle as a Precious jewel with magical talisman over it, fallen down from the planet of Thierry Mugler.

The scent is magical with the most Attractive & unexpected compo of Jasmine, Cashmere & white amber.

This has been made only for a woman who are full of confident & knows exactly what she wants, If it used on the wrong person I think the talisman will not work haha ;)

I love you alien .. Definitely you deserves to be my SIGNATURE SCENT ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

I was expecting something "different" based on the reviews and the name, but I should have realized that because there are ONLY 3 notes in this perfume, that it would actually be quite simple.

It's nice, but it's just a bit simple for me. I can smell the jasmine, I can smell the woods, and I can smell the amber. And that's all there is to sniff!

I get a soft powdery floral on my skin. It's pleasant, but nothing ALIEN about it

Grape cool-aid anyone? The scent, the name, the bottle, everything about this and pretty much all T.Mugler creations is comming on like gangbusters, and I don't mean it in a positive way. Talk about complete lack of subtlety and sophistication. Even though it is strong it has bad lasting power. Just...terrible.

For me this fragrance is very appropriately named-- it does not smell like something that belongs on this world!
I really wanted to like this, it came in a really cool bottle, and after all i am a scifi buff so the idea of an 'alien' fragrance appealed to me, but alas it was not meant to be. As a huge fan of jasmine/amber scents I'm not sure why this doesn't appeal to me, but when i smell this something comes across as disturbing.
no offense to those that do enjoy it

Unbelievable longevity of the EDP. 15 hours and still smells pretty strong, Organza EDP faded away many hours ago... It smells kind of the same from the beginning till the end. I smell a mix of berries, like sweet juice of blackberry, black currant and even a hint of blueberry, all poured over jasmine flowers dipped in detergent. Clean powdery smell with fresh, sweet and sour fruits.

I loved it at first sniff....I thought it would be a complex potion with lots of notes, and I couldn't believe it when I read there's only 3 ...this fragrance is very well blended and balanced...

It is one of those perfumes one wears to crush the competition....it feels very fem, classy and sophisticated...I don't find it overwhelming in any way, but extremely chic and elegant, definitely not a floral fragrance for pinky girls...

I do have to say it is very linear, it stays pretty much the same on me from start to finish, but I like that it stays that way...I usually enjoy perfumes that morph and evolve, but this one is an exception to me...

Alien could have easily come out in 1985 instead of 2005 with its oriental floral powerhouse characteristics that were so in vogue back during the late '80's. Alien is similar on my skin to the original Poison('85) by Christan Dior. Like Poison, Alein has that jasmine wood base along with a mild incense and dry vanilla. I also get from both of the fragrances a note that gives off a grape like smell. I wear Alien mixed with Poison, and the combination is really nice. I love when someone will ask what I'm wearing when I have those two on, as I am always eager to tell them....A Purple Poisonous Alien, and that's the truth.

Side note: I second the opinion of Iris Iris down below with the perfect song choice used to describe Alien as being "Black Metallic" by Catherine Wheel.

Wonderful Perfume. I usually switch perfumes according to the seasons.I like a lilly of the valley, like Diorissimo or Pleasures Intense in the summer. In the fall into winter I like Halle, Cinnabar,Extra Ordinary, Mirada. For spring I like In Bloom.I was looking for a all season fragrance to make as a signature fragrance.ALIEN IS IT! This fragrance on me is perfect. It has woods and flowers and amber. When i wear it I am asked what I have on and everybody loves it.I kept comparing my other fragrances to this and there is no comparision. This is # 1.

This is my favorite NOT discontinued perfume.
First, the packaging: a beautiful work of art that looks like a shard of an alien spaceship crashed to Earth. The bottle for Alien wholey embodies the marketing for this fragrance and is also very durable. I have the refillable 2 ounce bottle, which I appreciate.
The scent of Alien is amazing to say the least. There's really nothing even close to similar that I've found, and believe me, I've looked. Appropriate for any and all environments and occasions, this is definitely the most versatile fragrance I own. It seems to smell more expensive than it actually is, which says a lot considering the cost of this fragrance, but it's worth every penny. It is strong, but it can be worn during the day, seeing as how you won't need to apply it until you shower anyway. The lasting power of Alien is incredible because I still smell it on my laundry for at least the next day or two. However, it is not too heavy and will not give its wearer a headache.
Beautiful fragrance. Overall, this perfume get's a 10/10 from me.

Today for the first time I tried angel and alien together. My mum has womanity by Thierry Mugler and personally I find it really strong and metallic, nothing like a woman should smell like. So when I tried these, I was hesitant. I found Angel an old, rusty scent meant for older women like in their 35s or 40s. And I fell in love with Angel. Its everythign you look for in a fragrance. It starts of very cologne-ish andnstrong but it soon evolves into a sweet sugary (not the folral sugar type) hot mess. And by hot mess I mean a really nice hot mess. Its storng, but very eye catching and wonderful.

I am disapointed because if I didnt get a hint of menthol that immediately made me think of Ben Gay as soon as I sprayed it on- I feel I would really like it quite a bit.

I did not try it for so long because I was put off by the name and the bottle which may sound silly ,but just shows we all don't react the same to advertising and packaging etc.

Finally I just "had" to get a sample vial to try it,because it has so many good reviews here and I know many have it as a signature scent .
I can understand that--as I said if it wasnt for the menthol scent that lingered on me I can tell it is lovely .Im glad I finally sampled it .

Today I tried Alien for the first time: I spritzed it on my right wrist (on the other one I tried Angel), and the earliest notes were very strange and a little unplesant to me... they vaguely remind me the smell of a bug.
After few minutes the perfume become nicer, but I recognised the same style of the other Thierry Mugler's "great work of art": an annoying scent of artificial and synthetic components (thinking there are few natural notes is an illusion).
I know the fragrance of jasmine, and I can't feel any real jasmine in Alien... only a flavor which can remind jasmine's scent as a marshmellow can remind strawberry's taste.
Overall the scent is pleasant and well balanced, but I find it quite meaningless: certainly I wouldn't call it a magic elixir which spread mysterious aura.
What else... the bottle is a wonderful object.

UPDATE: the dry-down is disgusting! It seems to me a sweetesh, bad-quality aftershave... after 20 hours and a bath, I can still feel it on my wrist, it's more over-lasting than Angel!
How can I get rid of this stink?

I'm a man, and I proudly have it!! This is the most outstanding fragrance I've ever met, that's why I perfectly understand its name - ALIEN. I wore it on my Christmas Night, and I felt so comfortable and embranced in a Sambac and Amber cloud. Everybody loved Alien on me, even my mom, that usually doesn't like strong fragrances. Alien is very long lasting and has a crazy sillage, that doesn't offend anyone. My signature scent, and I love it!!! Easily worn by men.

I can appreciate Alien without even trying it - its bottle alone is quite stunning to behold. What hits my skin is another story. An eruption of synthetic, highly-concentrated (and oddly sour) jasmine, mixed with violet-like sweet notes, and all followed by a musky-woodsy drydown. To my nose, everything here smells blatantly synthetic, but that seems to be the artistic intention. I'm tempted to give Alien a thumbs down because of its aggressive chemical approach to flowers, but something about it tickles me. Alien smells sorta like someone took cheap French hooker perfume and shamelessly amplified its gaudiest elements - for posterity's sake! It is of the future, and I suppose in thirty years someone will exert themselves trying to update Alien. The result of that experiment could only be the smell of burnt flesh and shampoo musk, but there's time to enjoy this in the interim.

I just tried a sample of Alien and I don't really care for it. With the initial spray on my wrist, the first impression is a strong, sharp mothball odor. It dries to a mix of artificial synthetic flowers and powdery bug spray. In fact, it's giving me a headache only minutes after applying. With my chemistry reacting to it in this way, it's definitely not a perfume I'll wear again.

Oh my dear people,
Today I bought this from Dillard's. After trying J'adore L'Or at the counter, I had my mind set on purchasing it in few minutes after a stroll. As I walked around to see other things, the sales girl came with an Angel sachet and I told her that i would like to smell Alien instead( I had been wanting to for sometime).
Creamy,Soft, slightly spicy, decadent and very other worldly. I have never smelled another perfume of the sort.
The only other of its kind, that i can recall is the strong deep aristocratic fragrance that hits your nose as you enter Gold Jewelry Stores in Kerala, India.
I will disagree with anyone who says that its just a bunch of jasmine, it definitely is not, unless its one that has been dipped, and is dripping with a few other exotic things...
When i Got outside where it's 40-50 degree Fahrenheit, i smelled something so fantastic and I looked around to see whom it was and i realized that it is no one other than my Alien self :) cheers!

Alien made me act like an alien. Not just me but even my gorgeous friend acted like an alien too. Why?

The two of us met in a cafe, I gave her a 20ml. Alien decant as my Christmas gift for her. She has no idea what Alien is all about. She have lots of well known perfumes here but Thierry Muglers frags, shes not aware of.
So I told her Merry Christmas in advance, gave her the bottle and sprayed it lightly on her wrist. She sniff, I sniff, she said, its strong but unique. I said, its alien, aliens are strong and more powerful than humans. She sniff, I sniff, I said, now you feel the alien coming into you, she said it is still too strong for me but you're so sweet. I said, aliens have lasting strength lol
Then I told her, guess what, I have a tiny vial of Angel for women, so I sprayed it on my wrist, she sniff, I sniff, she said, wow so strong, so divine and creamy. I told her Angels are strong and heaven is a creamy place lol She loved it at first sniff. I was afraid she might ask to own my tiny Angel as well, but she didn't although I read her mind as if salivating to have it. Just like the "Aliens" in the movies lol
So we kept sniffing both fragrances, I sniff on her she sniff on me, until later she sniff her wrist again and began appreciating Alien in her skin, its so sexy, elegant, unique, exquisite. I sniff on her and was glad she loved Alien already. She sniff on me, wearing Angel for women and I saw her face like an Alien, still salivating to have my Angel. Then I told her, I think we better have dinner than act like aliens, sniffing each other like crazy.
These may all be just a case of "starvation" after all and People around us, I said, have been watching us and wondering..look at those two nerds! lol
We laughed and enjoyed our friendship... but sniffing continues as we ate dinner elsewhere lol
Hours later, im home, she texted me, she sniffing, can still smell Alien, long lasting and wonderful fragrance. She said she will use it on Christmas Eve and I said, whenever you receive compliments using Alien, tell them "I come in Peace" lmao...

*LOVE* this on my missus.

Perfect balance of Chinese and Indian Jasmines in the top and heart notes, with a slight, verdant, steamy green tea note. Very slight - perhaps its the change of notes in the top that gives this impression. Sweet and sweeter still drying down, but never cloying, with the blossoms opening further the more the fragrance progresses, becoming darker, weirder, more "divine", and just as it reaches the verge of too sweet, cloying, wilting, decaying, and CD Poison-like potency, the softer woody-musk backbone kicks in, stiffens up, and gives the burgeoning Jasmine-Orange Blossom (not neroli!) Monster a slap on the behind, putting it in its place JUST BEFORE it actually puts a toes out of line.

The best way to do Alien is using the body products, if you can get them at a reasonable price. My missus has the bath oil (I think) and the cream, and therefore doesn't NEED to use more than 5 or 6 sprays over skin and clothing and she smells divine all night.

I honestly dont know how to review a perfume, all I can say is that I am in love, today is the first day that I have actually used Alien on my skin and although I loved it from the first time I sniffed it on paper, I love it even more now.

The beginning actually smells like Raid bug spray on me. Not sure I'm going to make it much longer before I scrub...
edit: I have discovered the prodigy body lotion smells divine on me, presumably the way the perfume is supposed to smell. Sort of like a cross between a grape lolly pop and jasmine. Maybe I'll give the edp one more chance.

This is my second review of this perfume. My tastes have evolved pretty drastically over the past year. I thought I'd give Alien another shot since I still have a full manufacturer's tester. My oh my, how my perception has changed since my first test a year ago. Last year the only note I got was wet, moldy, potting soil. Now I smell heaps and heaps of jasmine--ethereal clouds of jasmine--where I smelled none before. Amazing. The first time I smelled this, I couldn't stand the sourness on my skin. Now I think it's beautiful and fresh, maybe even breathtaking. I just love Thierry Mugler's creations. There's no House like his.

In my skin is a jasmin bomb!! In th epaper strip is a lot more refreshing, more beach-y, on my wrist is VERY floral, then on the dry down the woods make it a bit more serious. I really like it, but this one needs to be deffinitelly tested on skin before buying!

Edit: I am loving this for the winter!

I received a sample, so I'm willing to review it again based on also skin test. Still I find the scent quite intrusive and it's not my type of scent. The Jasmin is strong. It's a very sweet flowery scent that lasts on me around 3 hours. I perceive it as a strong scent while it lasts. But still I find it too intrusive and too bothering.

"Whoa!!" - This is the first thing that came to mind with Alien. The beginning is, quite frankly, too much. Too much sweet, too much strength. Thank goodness it starts to mellow out pretty quickly. It has been said that less is more, and this scent is a perfect example. Although there are only 3 notes listed, it smells like there is so much more. The Jasmine is definitely the leader of the pack, though it gets softer as time goes on(thank goodness). At the moment, this is not an everyday scent for me even if applied with a light hand. This is more of a special occasion scent.

EDIT: About 2 hours later, it was at a level I really liked for an everyday level. At 3.5 hours, it was gone. And I do mean GONE. I couldn't catch a whiff even if I stuck my wrist right up against my nose. It's still nice if used lightly, so this will stay in my Special Occasion category.

There's something very 80's in "Alien".
It is a jasmine perfume with the character of gardenia! It is on this peculiar mutation where its extraterrestrial charm lies.
As a smell it is luminous and radiant, but, with a vibration.
Its meticulously fostered sensuality however, does not have the animalic quality of gardenia. It is more I'd say "scientific", something to be studied.
Compared to "Angel" it is more self-explanatory but still doesn't share much with the wearer. It sits on top of everything (this is its 80's element), flashing like a beacon!
Personally I don't like "Alien", and if you haven't smelled it yet, imagine a mixture of the first "Poison" with bits and bytes of "Giorgio" inbetween.
As a smell and a seduction weapon "Poison" still has the edge (spray both and ask a stranger, you'll see I'm right), but I can understand it's very hard to resist a temptation that's out of this world. ;-)
I find the name and the bottle a bit silly in a childish way..

Very-very unique fragrance. In the first breath, the jasmine takes you to another world. You can not escape from there. No other fragrance like Alien. It’s a bit strong, so be care if u use it, but it’s a very-very good choice if you go to an evening program, you want to be in the middle, and u want show yourself. (But if you like softer scent, try Angel from Thierry Mugler.)

Uniqueness: 9/10
Erotica: 7/10
How i like it: 7/10

Good for a first date? For an evening walk, look at the stars perfect one! For other programs choose an other one.

Thank God I gave this a chance on my skin, because my impression of Alien on paper was rather sub-par.

Despite the purple color (my favorite color), Alien isn't really purple in the least. It's more of a white floral with touches of green. At the beginning it hints towards a synthetic "purple" luminescence, but before my lips can form "Oh shit, hairspray", the fragrance smooths itself out. It's strong, but the jasmine here is very accessible and not indolic at all, whatsoever. In fact, the jasmine pretty much poops out in the first 15 minutes, and while the white florals do remain, some woods come in and help to spotlight the star of the show... coumarin. And I'm not talking about just any pretty little coumarin. This is a grassy, earthy coumarin that I've smelled in Under the Arbor by C.B. I Hate Perfume. This coumarin evokes the smell of newly-mown hay, AND the smell of grass on a humid summer evening. That's why I liked Under the Arbor so much - the grassy coumarin smell instantly triggered memories in my mind, of the Pennsylvania countryside on a warm evening. I'd love to have that smell follow me through the winter, so I can smell it as much as possible. However, Under the Arbor is linear and weak. Alien keeps going and going, and spices that heavenly coumarin accord up a bit. Alien garnishes that coumarin accord with the sparkle of green salicylates as well. That being said, I can only point out the obvious here - Alien is anything BUT extraterrestrial. It smells earthly and warm, like one of us. Alien is warm-blooded and friendly.

Would I buy a bottle? I'm not quite sure yet. I need to spend some more time with Alien. So far, however, it's getting all positives from me. When it comes to summer smells, we all love a little citrus, some salty oceanic notes, maybe a pina colada, or some neroli. Alien eschews MY kind of summer - the green, rolling hills of the Pennsylvania countryside in late June. And, wouldn't you know it, I found that smell in a Thierry Mugler fragrance, of all places. A fragrance, ironically, named "Alien".

I learned a lesson this evening. Don't judge a book by its cover, especially in the fragrance world.

Once upon a time I was in love in Alien, testing it for the first (and second, and third) time made me feel like I was being wrapped in an unworldly, luxuriant blanket of soft, velvety jasmine petals...and for a long time I longed for the day when I could own it and call it my scent. After finally purchasing it, the love turned to hate within a short month and just 5 wears. It started to feel heavy on me, too heavy, even when it's cold outside, the once velvety jasmine blanket now hangs around me like a persistent claustrophobic cloud, making me feel anxious and depressed. It's like a psycho-stalker, obsessive ex-boyfriend whom you thought was extremely charming before you got into a relationship with him. You're not the perfume I thought you were, Alien. I really tried...I couldn't believe I was starting to despise it at first, I actually had to force myself to wear it the last couple of times, as if in denial of my growing hatred for it. It became obnoxious on my skin, the first few hours would smell like jasmine-scented bugspray, toxic and suffocating. The bugspray aroma softens into an artificial and equally toxic sort of sweetness. Evocative of mothballs, aspartame-laced mothballs to be exact. Blech. The funny thing is nobody else smelled what I was smelling, making it all the more frustrating...my mother would ask me what I was wearing that smelled so beautiful and elegant. I ended up giving her my bottle. She smells good in Alien, very regal like a queen, and got showered with compliments from her group of friends, telling her it's the best perfume they've ever smelled on her and each wanting to try a spritz (the whole guest room reeked of Alien for a couple days after that night lol). I just hate having to smell it for long periods of time, my nose won't tolerate it.

EDP: The opening is ATOMIC! The top notes got stuck in my nose drills for 15 minutes or so. I couldn't smell anything but the ALIEN bombastic top notes. After half an hour, it calmed leaving a mellow ambery woods with a faint floral touch. I didn't find it exclusively feminine, except for opening which is FATAL.

I detest Angel (I think it smells like body odor), but I really do like Alien a lot. It's complex, feminine, and different. However, it tends to give me a headache (especially if I put it on right before getting into a car), so I don't wear it often. Looking for another distinctive, warm and a little spicy but not old-lady perfume, I found Hermes Eau des Merveilles and while it's very different from Alien (not a night perfume), I love it. For night, I guess I'll just stick with Stella for now.

It's really subtle on me, melds with my skin and lasts for quite long.
I'm not sure what Mugler aimed for - the smell of a beauitul alien's skin, perhaps?
Because there is something that translates into a little powder, a hint of rubber (latex) or plastic that doesn't bother - but adds another dimension to the scent which is basically a skin scent. It can only smelled with the nose an inch or so from the skin.
Anyway, it's very comfortable and still a bit peculiar at the same time. Interesting.

I was NOT expecting this. After being terrified of Mugler with Angel, I was nervous to try this. What an AMAZING floral concoction. It smells AMAZING and one spray is all you need - it lasts ALL day. I truly did not see this one coming from him. I am a white floral fan and this is spot on! I thought I would get another patchouli mess. Kudos to you Mr. Mugler! What a fantastic far cry from Angel and Womanity.

I've been so curious about this perfume, but it's way too expensive to risk a blind buy..
Finally I found a store that actually has it and tested it today.
well.. it's good. Very good. But to me it's in no way spectacular or unique or outrageous about it that justifies all the rave.
It's not bad on me, but my skin seems to eat up all the spectacular-ness and just make it an in-your-face, slightly bitter, somewhat cold scent that oddly enough reminds me of Rive Gauche. Chemistry is a weird thing, isn't it!
If I bought it, I know it would sit unused 95% of the time.

I have a tiny travel size of this and Ive had it for over a year- it's very strong, and def for women- not going to smell this at your local high school, but I looove it in very small doses, like on a scarf after a day, it smells amazing. Get compllliments every time I wear but only from women, lol, I think this scent is a tad overpowing, but occasionally, I like to be overpowering, so I do like it quite a lot, but it is def not an everyday type of scent.

I like this perfume a lot an always wanted to wear it, but it smells like a person I really despise. I get so sad that I can’t wear it. So one day I was shopping and Entered “Ajmal” perfume store in the gulf, they sell oriental perfumes with Oud and so, and they also sell some a bit Frenchy perfumes. So I saw this nice squared royal purple bottle and asked to smell it. It was exactly Alien, no wonder it’s also purple. So I got it . atleast am not wearing Aline that I can’t unfortunately wear. Its called Sacrifice by Ajmal. N its only 20$ and last as much as Alien.

Alien is a compliment getter. Everytime I wear this, people ask: who is smelling so good? Oh it's you! What perfume are you wearing? WHAT? Thierry Mugler? :o

People are so typical when it's not a chanel or fruity floral safe scent. And when they hear: thierry mugler they make a face. But when they smell this stuff without knowing, they are fascinated by it.

That's what I love about Alien. It's different but still very wearable. Unlike Angel, not everyone wears this and recognizes it. It's still a unique fragrance.

I love the bottle design and especially the name Alien. What are you wearing? Oh, Alien. Love that. I'm a weirdo for names like Poison, Eden, Alien or Angel.

Smells like jasmine and vanilla. I'm in love with jasmine. It makes me feel like an exotic princess.. which i'm not (being white and blond) but I love the thought of being that once in a while.

Easy to wear but still appropriate for special occasions. Lasting power (I have the EDT sadly enough) is not that good, but the EDP is. Spend a little more money and you'll be very happy.

I received a nice size sample of this at the mall this weekend. I'm wearing it for the first time today, and at first spray really disliked it. Sharp, bitter bitter jasmine. blegh! About 25 minutes in, the jasmine has toned down a lot, and I guess it's okay. Softer more tolerable jasmine with woody notes and amber. Not worth it IMO.

Last part: jasmine tea in a cup with sweet n' low

I am not exactly sure what it is about this fragrance that I adore so much but nonetheless I adore it! Maybe it's the fact that I am a jasmine lover and the woody and oriental notes are perfectly harmonized witht he jasmine in this potion. It smells really intoxicating, warm as well as bold and I love the lasting power too. It's pretty much unforgettable when you put it on and wear it. I put it on yesterday at the bay and loved it instantly. I wore it all day and I still smelled it well before going to bed....then in the morning when I woke up I still smelled it. I thought amazing! I was like awesome, 'that's my kind of fragrance'. It's definitely sensual, warm and mysterious in the fact that you can't pinpoint what it is that you really love about it so much. It's also definitely unique in how it smells and the long lasting power alone is also unique I think when compared to so many other fragrances. I was very impressed with this fragrance initially a few years back and I am finally buying a bottle this fall after testing it out again and being remined of how much I still love it. :) :) :) All I can say in conclusion is yummy yummy lol.

It's a fragrance that is really interesting, well done and makes an impression. Unfortunately, I'm absolutely not Mugler's fan, Mugler's creations don't match my personality.

A huge dose of powerful jasmine and patchouli. Patchouli is basement-like or it's better to write - soil-like. So I have an image of jasmine lying on a dirty soil/ground, trampled, a bit faded...Remember Guns'n'roses and "November Rain"? so a similar scene with flowers but Alien is much more dangerous and dark. And the scent is heavy, long lasting. Too sad. Good for rainy days if you like.

Not my cup of tea really... so is the bottle.

Well EVERY man LOVED this scent; and asked me what I had on. Every woman looked at me oddly. And my friends told me I smelled like an exoctic dancer. I had to see if this was a fluke so I waited until I was going to another office wore the perfume again - EVERY man loved it and once again every woman gave me the eye..... I CAN NOT STAND IT!!!! I soo wanted to like this, was looking for a new oriental scent, descriptions sounded great. I was very pleased for the first 10 minuites of wearing this perfume, lovely spicy notes, then it turned, urgh, left a really strong unpleasant scent behind, had to wash to remove it, however it still exists! so strong, I think this is what you call here 'sillage'? like another reader;this perfume reminded me of an 80's scent my sister had and I hated that also. I'm thinking it is the amber that I dislike? Theres also a givency perfume with similar notes but not as strong.I'm glad I only bought a 5ml trial of this.

Im on the verge of loving this one. I actually bought the full sized liqueur de parfum first and then a small spray of this. And so far 3 sprays on.. i think it s a simple scent but a masterpieve nonetheless. The ingredients blend so...harmonious isnt the right word. But perhaps seamlessly. I would disagree with tankgirl though i can see from her point of view and greatly respect her reviews. I would say it s a sensual fragrance indeed, but not one that conjure up the warm sensual feeling but a cold sharp slightly sexual sensuality. This is incredibly sweet in its floral concentration, the most potent deterrent to jasmine haters. The cedar comes out strong in its intial 1 hr blast, mixed in with jasmine, it has a smoked woody jasmine touch to it, as it blends into your skin, the jasmine slowly reveal it s gentler side, a creamier warmer jasmine with just a light dusting of sugar. Those are the moments i wait for. Longevity is excellent. Projection excellent.

Hello everyone, if I told you I like Alien leg ...... well not be the best to tell, one day I went to a bar for a coffee and while I poured the bag of sugar in the cup, I empty the bag ran away from his hand and ended up on the ground, and beside him was pictured with a sachet scent of Alien ... I instinctively took the bag to his nose and although it was now empty, I was hit by a very warm and fragrant sensual
(I think could compete with J'adore Dior ... but that's just my feeling) is one of those smells that enter the database of the brain and hardly felt when we forget it ...
A few days ago I went for some shopping at discount (the discount is near the bar where I found Alien, but there is no perfume in the area) Well when I got home I started to feel a smell that was somehow familiar, in short coming from under my shoes and he was still * Alien *, i could not believe it: a scent that is supposed to represent something beyond the earth to find it by 2 times to the ground (you should use the trash cans)
It's been 10 days but Alien was in love with my shoes.
Fascinating and mysterious, very good.

Just imagine Samsara forsaking her vow to be harmonious and stealing off into the woods, stopping at nothing to hunt down and vanquish her lover's killer. She would smell like this in the heat of action.

Sublimely feminine yet brutal, lofty, and strong, like Luis Royo's fantasy art beast-slaying seductresses (esp. the ones in white).

There's SO MUCH WOOD in this, i cant even explain it, its like literally INHALING WOOD. Hot, hot wood. This perfume really has the ability to warm you in winter weather. It does something to the pressures in my head that i find offensively inappropriate in any temperature above 45F. BUT:: it is ABSOLUTELY elegant, feminine and caressing in the coldest of winter.

It's a perfume that wears YOU, not the other way around, there's no two-ways about it. It's a choice that you cant turn your back on. When you choose the path, walk it with resolution, elegance, and grace (like the beast-slaying beauties). It's NOT easy to scrub off!!!

A disappointment. I expected something else from a bottle that unique. Purple colour does definitely not represent well the smell for me. White would be better in my point of view.

I tried it directly on my skin without testing on paper. The jasmine was OK, but something there made it smell rather generic, even boring (a bit of sweet "niceness"). And something there is also too synthetic for me. Not like the violet warrior at all.

Hmmm... not sure how to put it in words.

This is a lovely smell. Flowery and rather delicate, sweet and sublime. It may have a nice bouquet, but it certainly lacks depth.

I would say, it is not a very complex composition. Nonetheless, very enjoyable, indeed (in the short run).

It feels quite frustrating when I read reviews saying that Alien is a very sensual fragrance and that was made for sexy women and blablabla! I mean...I'm not saying that the persons who have that idea of Alien are wrong but well, by reading the reviews you imediatly think about a hubber sexy perfume, with dark woody undertones and a sweet ambery drydown (like le baiser du dragon or perhaps cabochard or femme rochas), and then when you actually smell Alien (induced by the reviews) the result is just: nhe.
I dont know if its my nose, or the wether or my skin but Alien just smells like those pieces of wood brought by the winter sea tide, mixed with a slightly pissy jasmin.
I learned to like it and I actually wear it a lot but hey, if you are going to buy it blind, a warning for you:THIS IS NOT SEXY, Alien is the perfect perfume for casual occasions like uhhm "im out of shower and i've no idea what perfume to use" or "its casual friday at the office, lets put some perfume that just goes with a white shirt".
I guess Mugler called this perfume Alien because of our idea of an Alien: clean, modern, syntethic, souless, white...
Well Alien is just like that, try before buy!

Alien has been my signature fragrance ever since I discovered it. It's absolutely divine and fits my personality perfectly. I would describe it as a very sensual, mysterious and deep scent. Not many can pull it off because it's more of the Femme Fatale type of perfume. Just a tiny amount of it lasts for a very long time.
Alien truly feels like out of this world - the scent is different and has this dark seduction vibe around it that is exactly what I'm looking for in my perfumes.

This perfume to me is a lovely smooth sensual smell like cashmire it is not a sharp agressive over bearing smell when sprayed correctly that is, so for me the bottle and the advertisement do not match the juice inside. I would expect a much more heavy, sharp, unusual fragrance to come from an alien inspired bottle and add. I don't believe in Aliens but I love the concept of them for sci fi purposes but this perfume is just too mild and musky. Mitsuku or Habanita I would think or even Elephant would smell more like the alien concept not the smell that you get here. This is a very soft smell. Angel I think is more agressive and dry and powdery. Having said all of the above, I think this lasts well and you can get so many nice products in the range and the little minis are gorgeous. The price is afordable too and they are available everywhere one thing I cannot stand is when you like a perfume but it is too difficult to find. This is an opinion I have developed over time I never paid attention to the packaging but now that I have sniffed so many perfumes this one is just ordinary to me and does not fit the extra terestrial concept. The bottle is nice and very original. The smell however, needs a little umph. This also reminds me a little of JPG Classique. Just a little!! :)

a very nice scent!! i notice woodsy notes and jasmine the most.. it really is sort of supernatural! if e.t. would smell nice, this is probably what he would smell of ;O) it's probably best for winter and fall sort of heart-warming. it's great, if you like earthy/woody fragrances, you gotta try this!! 10 out of 10.

When I used to go out a lot, I always wore this scent. It has a massive staying-power and somehow a lot of men are attracted by it. But a lot of women feel the same way about this scent and there was a period where you could literarly smell it everywhere on anyone. Young, old, any woman was wearing this.
I got turned off by it.

I own Alien, and I believe it is a great scent. In addition, it is a unique scent unlike any other. However, it is a fragrance that I have to be in a specific mood to want to wear it.

Since i red a lot of raving reviews about this perfume and since i am still on a quest to find my perfect Jasmine perfume, i ordered a sample.
To be quite honoust...as a Jasmine addict, i really don't understand why people love this scent so much...
Eventhough Jasmine should be the top note, i don't detect the true Jasmine scent in this perfume.
To me this composition is not what Jasmine should be about, this perfume is way more sweet and floral then an (almost) soliflore Jasmine perfume should be..
I actually feel the urge to wash the scent off..
Now i know that every person has his or her own interpretation of what a true Jasmine perfume should smell like..but for me, this is not mine.
I will continue my search for a perfume like Flying Fox or Godiva from the Lush, untill then i settle for a combination of Serge Lutens a la Nuit and Lust from Lush.

I totally do not understand this fragrance. On my skin, it is a violently screaming, axe weilding, suffocating floral, that is shamefully "calmed" by a screech of nail polish remover that slaps you in the face every time you attempt questioning the florals. I threw my 2ml sample away, to keep my husband from divorcing me. He said it made him sick. And, he loves heavy scents on me like Opium, Obsession, and even Passion.

I love this scent so, so much! Creamy vanilla jasmine.. This. is. beautiful. and. I. love. it. This is just the most perfect fragrance... It's all I've ever wanted.. I've dreamt of smelling like this ever since I became interested in fragrance - it's as if Alien were made for me! Alas, it is too expensive & i'll just have to buy the EDT, which is also beautiful, but still merely a shadow of the wondrous composition that is Alien.

I used to think I didn't like Alien. I thought I preferred the EDT. However, that is because in every single store I went to the tester was always EMPTY & I think I was just smelling the metal sprayer!!

It would be my dream to own Alien & ALL of its flankers. That way i'd never have to buy any other perfume.

I tested this perfume only recently...strangely I didn't want to, because it was so popular,I was afraid of being disappointed, and above all I think that the bottle is very ugly... reminds me of Dark Vador...
Finally I tested it because I was given a sample. What a surprise! I can smell mint, and some kind of organic medecine I was given as a child when I had a cold...eucalyptus? Other plants?
Soon other notes develop... jasmine for sure! I have always been a jasmine lover. But it is not pure jasmine! In the South of France I have smelt pure jasmine. Though I love the combination of aromatic notes and jasmine.
When it dries down I can smell much sweeter and comforting notes, really enticing, sensual... i usually don't like woody fragrances, but I 'm not disturbed by the woody notes in that perfume. And amber! So wonderful!
I have never smelled anything like that!

Dichotomy! (if that makes any sense in english). Sensual and yet soothing...absolutely amazing!!!

I rated this as a "dislike" with mixed feelings--it was more wearable than Sunessence Ambre D'Or because it wasn't AS dusty and powdery, and it had no kiwi. I thing this is a master piece in terms of perfume if i had to choose just a word to translate it , would be UNIQUE, it is woodsy and sweet at the same time, it's misterious , perfect for the night time . ALIEN is INFUSING! Spray it once, that would be enough! Like its successor ANGEL, same rules applied; SPRAY CAUTIOUSLY!! Being soft and creamy doesn't necessarily mean weak and boring. Instead ALIEN blows you off with a strong & powerful kick. So, please be gentle and respect other people sharing the same room with you, or else you will be ALIENated!

The advertorial as well as it's purple flacon has successfully created drama and absurdity that obviously different to the innocent and sweet image of ANGEL. However, IMO both are misfits and contradictory. Many have said these two signature scents should switch their names and bottles, that..I fully agreed. ALIEN should bear ANGEL's name, sweet and innocent in a cute star-shaped bottle and the fierce ANGEL should be named ALIEN, bold and mature.

I somehow imagine the absurd queen played by Tilda Swinton in Narnia would fit the image of the new ALIEN. As bizarre as it can get, TM's perfume is not to be passed deliberately. If I had not forced myself to buy a mini just out of curiosity, I might still be in the ALIEN haters group for now. But pleasee...don't judge a book by its cover! Looks could be deceiving, right? Especially, when I found out that ALIEN is all jasmine, wrapped in rich woodsy amber! ALIEN + jasmine maniac like me? Well, that equals heavennnn.... ladies and gentlemen!!

So, even when the name doesn't fit, and the fumes is not even that unique, that doesn't really stop me from craving and wanting this perfume even more! Guys, what are you waiting for?? Go grab ALIEN, it really is worth to covet a bottle!!

I first fell in LOVE with Alien when I was at work and a friend wore it about 5 years ago and I thought wow what an amazing smell!!! I describe it as clean, sweet, powerful, sexy, seductive, intoxicating, alluring. I have been seduced under a spell that has never gone away since first whiff. So I asked my friend what are you wearing? and she replied alien and I thought wow what a crazy name for something so magnificent. I was shocked! I couldnt help but to laugh, roll my eyes because name put me off completely.

About a month later I smelt it again on another coworker about 3 months later and there it was the fragrance that put me on a rocket ship to heaven. I was charmed and under the spell again, so I asked what are you wearing? She replied Alien by Thierry Mugler. I thought wow you are joking because I was not a fan of Angel at the time. Regardless, as soon as I got paid, I ran to macys for my signature smell Alien.

Everyone this fragrance is not for those who want to go unnoticed, or people who like light, sublte perfumes or have a shy personality.

People who wear alien are confident, sexy, unaplogettic, and know what they want out of life. Its truly an unforgetable fragrance. I call this my love potion and it does bring me love.

When you first spray Alien it smells complex maybe even a little bitter because of the amber/woodsy notes. I hated it on intial blast before because it was so strong. Give it time and you will be gloriously wrapped in the woodsy, amber and jasmine spell as the hours go by.

Once Alien is on you it leaves trails and wafts of where you are, what room you were in and where you are going. It last on my skin even after I shower, and it also lasts on your clothes.

So be forwarned not everyone likes alien it is a love or hate smell. If you spray too much you will cause headaches and complaints. Repelling others because it doesnt go away. I rarely hear complaints.

I describe this fragrance as a magnet or weapon of seduccion. I have recieved many compliments, and admirers. Now everyone asking me what are you wearing? I proudly reply Alien by Thierry Mugler.

I'm revisiting Alien as my dad (who has no idea what I do like or not) bought me a bottle of it for my birthday, my last experience with this fragrance was last winter in England when I found out that I hated Jasmin and all jasmin perfumes, this is true still now. When I hoped the present and I saw my dad have bought Alien I thought omg my most hated perfume ever, but when I smelled it again I actually didnt needed to fake my smile because I actually liked it! Its completly different on summer, the jasmin-piss note is gone and what I've got is a salty woody fragrance that is very ligh and very good for this terrible heat.
I'm delighted with it and I've been wearing it for office everyday.
I'm a chaged woman :P

I think I may have found my wedding day scent...this is the perfect jasmine oriented scent, and amazingly romantic because the jasmine isn't too sharp or overwhelming. as far as i can tell, this perfume has the best silage of any other perfume i own or have tried. it will literally permeate your walls...in very good way. dark and beautiful and unlike any other scent out there, it truly is unique and foreign, like it's name sake. the bottle is supposed to resemble an alien, but to me it is a perfect representation of the feeling it gives me...

the deep purple bottle, perched on a 19th Edwardian vanity, amidst other dark vials of ornate perfume, a powder puff resting atop a dark and intricately detailed silver bowl, filled with the sweet scented powder. there are half burned tapered candles in wrought iron holders, all of which rest on a delicate black Chantilly lace. the wind blows through the sheer ecru tinged curtains draped over the tall, expansive window. the sky gray, covered in a cloudy mysterious haze. the first signs that a storm is coming, the balmy air is unusually warm. the beautiful scent of alien wafts about the room, kissing the pillows and bedding, seducing the mistress that wears it, so she may in turn, seduce all others who have the pleasure crossing her path...or her boudoir.

truly a witchy fragrance, not the warted green kind, but the one that you would have no clue, because she's just too beautiful, confident, elegant, sophisticated and most of all, charming, to ever be thought of as anything other than mesmerizing.

This is my signature scent .

Too strong or heady concoction for some , but i LOVE it! This i9s what i bring out for nights out or in with BF...Its strong , sensual and magical.

The bottle is fantastic and takes pride of place on my "perfume shelf" .

I'm surprised its only composed of a few notes , it smells incredibly c0mplex to me.

Incredible lasting power and sillage on my skin.

Ive found a wonderful way of mixing it up - I have a spray of alien behind each ear , and a spray of Tm's "Violette Angel " on each wrist ..the combo of these two together i just love , and your sure you wont smell like anyone else.

Not for wallflowers , and Ive only got into these heavier scents since passing a certain age. For strong , confident women whop want to be noticed :)

10/10 from me !!

I tried this out yesterday, and wished the sales assistant hadn't been so generous with the spray. Initially it had a minty toothpaste smell, and then became completely overbearing. I stuck it out and kept it on for a good half hour in the hope that it would improve on drydown but it made me feel quite sick, and I had to wash it off. Although I washed and washed (I even took a nailbrush to scrub my skin!) I still couldn't get the smell off my skin. Only after 9 hrs and washing at every opportunity did the smell start to fade. For those who love this, it's certainly got staying power. Not for the faint-hearted!

My 3rd review...what Alien does to me on different days:

ON A GOOD DAY:
powerful but smooth...smoky-minty-sweet-jasmine on a deep base of musk/amber/woods...dark, cozy, sophisticated, eccentric, elegant.

ON AN AVERAGE DAY:
An icy can of herby/woody SARSAPARILLA BEVERAGE aka SARSI(it's like rootbeer) plus a hint of vanilla. And ofcourse a thick fog of amber/musk floating in the background.

ON A BAD DAY this is what Alien smells to me:
Roach spray...a hazy, thick, cold fog of musk/floral-scented roach spray. Toxic note in there like it shouldn't be on your skin.

Lately I've had more bad days and average days than I've had good days with Alien...I was madly in love when I first bought it, and I now realize that I've underestimated the true power and strength of this scent hidden behind the deceptively cozy and velvety jasmine note...my bottle is more than 3/4 full so I gave it to mom, and it suits her so much more, she smells very elegant and I prefer this on her than on myself. I think this suits mature women more, they can better pull off the power and elegance of Alien...younger women could drown in this potion imo, especially if not worn properly.

I get it now, after having worn it for countless of times, Alien smells to me more and more like SARSAPARILLA beverage (it's like root beer but sweeter) with a touch of vanilla!! Except that it isn't exactly a gourmand scent, atleast not gourmand in the 'yummy, I could eat it' sense...But it has that sarsaparilla essence in it. So THAT'S WHY I found it smelling similar to the rootbeer-ish Hypnotic Poison.

A garden full of white flowers spreading their scents in an early morning of a beautiful summery day!
It opens extremely floral and based on rose and jasmine in a chilly and cold way.
Bottle and name support the complicated and unrecognizable scent perfectly. It's something that seems older than us but presents fresh and juicy.
Dry down is near to Mungler's masculines; resinous and chemical with dominant benzoin. Chic and strong, overpowering and strange, proper for between 25~35 years old in a deeply ceremonial way in an uncommon dress.
Although it's dry and strong pattern, it's sentimental and you get lots of compliments for sure. But you may either hate it or love it, nothing between.
10 hours passed and test paper still scents in bold resinous and floral smell.

I tried this one back in 2005 and loved it immediately! My soul mate of the fragrance world had arrived!! I had a spray on a card from a department store and put it in my jacket pocket. I pulled the card out of my pocket two weeks later and could still smell it quite strongly! What I love about it is that the top, middle and base notes combine together so harmoniously that it is like you are inhaling the fragrance of an exotic flower from an alien planet from far beyond our solar system! I wear this during the day and evening - I think it's so gorgeous that it's suitable for any time. I will never tire of this one!

For me Alien is beautiful but in a strange kind of way. It can warm a cold winters day & put me in a snuggly mood. I love how the top & middle notes unfold even though the base note is too catching for me. Alien captures me on its approach bt looses it's appeal the longer it lasts. How strange is that? This perfume is just perfect to me. It's different, of course, alien. I love to smell different, nothing worse than being mainstream. I cannot bare Angle, it's just annoying. But Alien is so stunning, bright, a masterpiece in my opinion. I have used this during winter ( which has been a freezing endless winter) and it actually makes me looking forward to the next winter. In cold air this scent is breathtaking. Thumbs up!!!
Staying power is awesome as well.

I absolutely hate this perfume. It is a weird, horrible smelling scent. I don't smell jasmine at all, just a strange, sweet mint chewing gum smell. It makes me sick. I wore a tester of this one day to a friend's house for lunch, and she actually asked me to wash this off.

Actualy, I did not find any frags from this designer which I like. It's too sharp for me, can't breathe normaly when i feel this scent around. Maybe it's ok for mid-ages woman. I definitely smell mint or menthol notes in. Guess, this parfume has a great longevity, but I'll not use for now, maybe 20 years later.

Love this! Very seductive. Perfect autumn/fall scent.
Rich, warm and woody. It has a familiar smell for me. Anyone remember Incognito released by Dana Perfumes in the early 90's? Alien is alot like that, only more top shelf, of course! Must be the deep amber base.

I'm surprised.

As much as I hate overwhelming Angel and damned Womanity, I thought I was a Thierry Mugler hater myself. And maybe I am.

But every rule has it's exception, ladies and gentlemen.

And I must say Alien is fucking delicious. Sexy. Gorgeous. Aphrodisiac. Geez.

Just got this today (online). I was so excited to finally get a TM perfume.
I wanted it to be a revelation because of its fame and everything so I hadn’t smelled it before. just ordered it.
And… Surprise! I sprayed it and I was mesmerized. I said what the!!! Did I have this one before and didn’t NOTICE it?
I desperately went to my sweet place where I keep all my bottles and yes! There it was: GUCCI NIGHT! (which, by the way, it is not in the database! don’t know why)
There is a difference though: Alien is stronger and harsher than Gucci Night, much more expansive and not necessarily better.
I was so sure it was such a unique perfume. I hope I`ll get over it these days and find a way to like it. Or not!

I sampled this and the body cream at the same time to get a better feel for how it smelled. I think other ppl on this site said this one should be called angel and the other should be called alien. agreed! this is so soft, feminine, light, and pretty-i think this is more what an angel would smell like. If i didn't have a huge perfume collection already i would get this. very nice and non-offending. 2 thumbs up!

I´ve been wearing this one for a while and I really love this strong Jasmine blast, so well embraced by the depth of the woody-amber notes.
It´s intense, warm and ultra feminine but surprisingly can also be so, so relaxing, if sprayed just a little bit.
Although, I must confess that by my own experience, if overly sprayed can be intoxicating.
It has strong projection and silage, lasts wonderfully for the all day with the same scent, does not change.

I wanted to love Alien. I really, truly wanted to fall head over heels for it the way I did for Angel, which is another controversial fragrance that it seems you either love or hate.
Unfortunately, Alien either doesn't work with my chemistry or it's just a bad fragrance. I'm inclined to think it's just a chemistry thing, as I know lots of people adore Alien - I wish I could say the same.

I can't distinguish ANY notes in this perfume. I can detect no jasmine, no amber, no warm woods. It doesn't progress. From the first spray right through to the drydown hours later, the scent remains the same and very 'chemical'. Kind of like a strange mix of eucalyptus throat lozenges and bug spray - it breaks my heart to have to say it but I just can't wear this perfume. The bottle is gorgeous, but it's just not worth buying if I can't enjoy the juice inside.

Maybe I'll have better luck with 'Womanity' :/

The first time I tried Alien I thought I´d never feel confortable wearing it because it was so strong and different but... Well, there was something about it that attracted me so much. I was really shocked with it´s audacity but just couldn´t forget it. It took me some time to realize I had been captured by the beauty of this perfume.
Alien is not an everyday scent, for sure. It´s really strong and superb in it´s simplicity, as well as absolutely feminine and luxuriously sexy. A real jasmine masterpiece, the one I keep for my most special moments.

To properly appreciate this composition by Dominique Ropion and Laurent Bruyere you don't have to simply like jasmine, you should instead love JASMINE (say it as loud as you can).
When a new fragrance from Thierry Muglier comes to light, it's always surrounded by big expectations, and lately this expectations have been sadly unsatisfied.
Alien provides us with all the ingredients we usually expect form Thierry Muglier (juxtapositions, uniqueness, sweetness, pushed to the limits ingredients, weird bottle and advertisement) but it does it in the wrong way. This time Mr Ropion has simply failed. It happens, even to the best perfumeurs.

Overall Alien is a nice scent but remember that the word "nice" can be pronounced in several ways. In this case you should say it without even opening your mouth.

Alien is a true masterpiece. The unusual yet gorgeous bottle alone is enough to arouse my fascination. However, the actual perfume inside is what amazed me. I'm a big fan of Jasmin, thus seeing it amplified and given such depth and sensuality makes me simply exuberant. However this perfume is very strong and definitely not for everyone. But that doesn't stop me from someday purchasing a big bottle of it, I adore Alien, so why does anything else matter?

For something with so few notes in it this smells bizarrely complex and weird. So thats the brief fully adhered to. But then it becomes normal white floriental after the initial surprise. The alien sneaks into human society..
Very goth. Wants to be different and scary but reaches out at the last moment for connection, smiles self-conciously in its spiky collar.
Purple bottle looks a bit like a Giger design.

I think it's so strange that I'm asking myself: Do people really like that stuff or is it only because it's hip to like it? Good things first: The jasmine is heavenly, feminine, almost transports you. The patch is just the right earthy balance. Some citrus makes it refreshing and sweet.

The bad: There's something annoying in it. Underneath eevrything else there's something disturbing and unsettling lurking. It sometimes makes me angry, irritable.

Its also very, very synthetic and strong, and no matter how light I spray, it always produces a headache.

Conclusion: I wouldn't buy a big bottle, but I might buy a mini of the EDT and give a light, half spray from time to time.

I wish they hadn't gone so toxic and chemically on this one, but I guess there's nothing natural about aliens.

I agree with Spiritkind in part.

For whatever reason the EDP doesn't get along with my body chemistry and I get the weird menthol/eucalyptus cough drop note. However, I don't have that problem with the EDT! Weird.

My recommendation to Spiritkind: try the EDT.

Also some of the limited editions are gorgeous. I highly recommend Alien Sunessence Edition Limitee 2011 Or d`Ambre. The dry down is a lot like the original scent but more sparkling, perfect for spring and summer.

I love jasmine, and amber, they are two of my favorite scents. This doesn't smell like either. I get a slight balsm scent, with citronella (wich is probably what people keep refering to as the bug spray smell). I also get menthol/eucalyptus (which must be the mint scent people keep refering to). To me it smells like a halls lemon cough drop. Reminding me of being sick, sweaty, stuffed up, coughing with a sore throat doesn't exactly make for a sexy scent. Everyone smells things differently so I thought this might just be the way I smelled this scent, or perhaps it was just how it smelled on me. I had a number of friends test the scent with the same results. I suppose I could have had a bad sample

No way this fragrance contains 3 and 3 notes only :-)
I was a bit apprehensive to try it as I thought it was over-advertised and thought it would be yet another unbearable Mugler's creation...
And the bottle front looked so scary; as if Alien held it in their powerful claws...
But Alien smells so unique and complex, so rich and luxurious... I am lost for words. I tried it a few times now and I love it more and more each time I wear it. It is a fantastic combination of oriental floral notes on a nice woodsy base. To me it smels like an exquisite mixture of orange blossom and jasmine with a hint of amber and deep woody-mossy notes which are very prominent, like in Ange Ou Demon.
Alien is the only creation of Thierry Mugler that I can wear. It is a perfect fragrance in a perfect bottle with an outstanding sillage and lasting power.
With that quality comes a shocking price label but Mugler does not compromise on quality and I don't do it either. I do not mind paying a lot for this particular fragrance as it is going to last me years; one spray is enough for the whole day at office. It draws compliments from both, men and women which come free to that expensive package ;-)
Highly recommended - I feel it would appeal to Hypnotic Poison and Ange ou Demon lovers.
Not that it smells similar to those mentioned above - it just has a similar deep, rich feel to it and the dry down to die for :-)

Hats off for Mr Ropion for making it clear that less means more!

There are two fragrances (so far) I like by Thierry Mugler. Alien and Angel Innocent. The rest of Mugler as I know it seems to me (although perhaps great and so well review and respected) way too loud and like those experimental fashion outfits that are worn solely for some kind of artistic purpose.
The idea of Alien is not so new though. There is something that reminds me so much of Cacharel`s Lou Lou (that I prefer even more).
And I wanted to ask you purely out of curiosity... is there anyone out there to whom the bottle reminds of female genitals? I mean the upper side of it... because to me it does. Big time. It`s not surprising to me at all. Remember the sentence Thierry Mugler said in Robert Altman`s Pret-a-Porter? 'It's all about getting a great fuck, darling.'

I read so many good reviews about this fragrance that I was very intrigued to smell this for myself, so I bought a sample to try.
I sprayed one small squirt to the wrist and was very surprised at how strong this was.
I would describe this scent to be feminine, mysterious, unique, sensual, and just very different to anything you have probably ever smelt before.
The scent is very strong, heavy and overpowering. I could constantly smell this even though I only sprayed a tiny amount.
The jasmine in this is very prominent. I also detect a minty smell ?
This is a true oriental with great sillage!
But unfortunately I'm sad so say that this perfume was too heavy and overpowering for me.
I know many will love this! Orientals just don't agree with me.
I think I will stick to the Fruity Florals =)

Ok, this reminds me of sweet, sweet grape wine, with jasmine flowers thrown in the pot. Add a few wood chips to the mix. The woody notes become a bit louder in the die down. It's not odd or strange but it is very strong. Because of the strange grape note I would almost consider this a fruity floral. Lasts a long, long time on me which is good because I have a problem with my skin eating perfume. I can definitely smell this perfume hours and hours after applying. I would say it was a "purple" perfume. Gloriously sweet, not harsh in any way. I get no spice and no vanilla. It gets oh so much better in the die down. Sillage is stunning. So you will have to remember to wear just a small amout or it will knock everyone out around you.
Great, wonderful purple bottle. I think if the bottle was in the shape of a big purple flower it would be more of a fit than this strange alien figure.

Mysterious, sexy, feminine without being girly, distinctive and very very beautiful.

Be prepared to receive loads of compliments wearing this - smells 100x better than Angel (which I actually really didn't like..). It screams siren - without being whorish. Think upper-class aristocrat - really lovely, very oriental, it actually reminds me of old tea houses/green tea, it's a clean scent that won't feel sickly or tiring although it is quite simple, so don't buy if you're into really complex/sweet scents.

Lasting power is pretty darn good, it does fade a little though to a more subtle tea scent.

I was pleasantly surprised by this perfume. I didn't so much like Angel so I thought Alien would be like Angel, and it is not... the staying power is amazing to me. Put one drop on my hand in the afternoon, and it created a great sillage on me from just a drop, and lasted the entire day! That's too good to be true I think, and the scent was a bonus.. nothing like Angel. I find it does smell a little like Poisen, but way better, and sweeter. I can see with this one a little takes you a long way. I also think spraying too much might be a little overbearing for people around you so I plan to use this sparingly

Ladies, beware, because the ultimate "fantasy woven with reality" fragrance is here... i cant believe i am writing the review so late [almost 10 months after] but this perfume is a MUST have.
it stays on my skin for days [when used with the body bath] , so longevity is fabulous = 9/10
This perfume is so so so very different from all the others, it is strong and bold yet retains the essential softness.
this is a strong contender for my signature scent, a beautiful, bold, crazy concoction, but as i said beware , not every woman is capable of wearing/appreciating it.

It smells weird at first, with hints of earthy mushroom (!) , damped linen, rotting melon. But, after 5 minutes, it becomes soothing, gentle, warm. Astonishing staying power: I took a shower then I fell asleep for 14 hrs and this extraterrestrial perfume exhalated its last, touching, tender breaths from my right wrist. It's not a perfume, it is quite similar to a "shambleu-like/ shambleuoid" living creature that reacts to everyone's mood.

At first I have to say, that I`m a total wimp when it`s about trying "scary" perfumes like Opium, Poison or Mr. Mugler`s creations...
Today I saw a bottle of Alien staring at me at a store. And after reading before such a good reviews about it, I decided to try.

To me this no alien! But maybe Mr. Mugler thinks that aliens are nice, soft, beautiful and sexy. There is nothing sharp here, pure velvet. For that reason this remainds me of Hypnotic Poison. Especially the dry down.

So I`m very pleasently surprised, I was waiting a slap on the face, but I got a hand covered in soft, velvet glove gently touching my skin.

Alien is unusual yes but I'm looking for SciFi and not finding any. It starts off promising the weird stuff and making me wonder what the notes will be. But it turns deeply flora and darkly sensuous and it's all very feminine and even stylish.

I've decided that for me, jasmine fragrances seem to come in two flavors: sweet, cool, and lush -- or loud, high, screechy, and unwearable (I think orange blossom and neroli might be the pairings that kick it up the screech). Fortunately, on me Alien proves to be the former.

I'd heard a lot about the STRANGENESS of this scent, but I find Alien quite pretty. Rich, cool jasmine (there's something herbal or stemmy in there, which contributes to the coldness) and warm woods, with the whole composition feeling somehow damp and dark. It's sweet but not foody or thick -- highly wearable and quite elegant, although it is also a BIG scent and certainly not a minimalist one. Also, a total powerhouse; you will KNOW you're wearing this, so ti does have a sort of otherworldly nuclear-powered quality in that sense.

To me, Bvlgari Black is a close cousin -- but sweeter, weirder, and less unisex than Alien! It's like Black plays up the sweet side of jasmine, then juxtaposes it against the rubber and leather notes. Alien just puts the lush jasmine front and center, doesn't candy it with all the vanilla in Black, and lets the woods provide a supporting role.

Thanks to Nyoka for inspiring me to give this a try with her raptorous comments on Alien!

Alien is a sly 'fume. First application it coats the back of my throat in a fuzzy amber carpet layered in jasmine petals. Overall is a strange fug: what is it? Sweat? Salt? It's like licking the back of your hand and letting it dry after drinking black-tea...an odd scent, just lurking there.

Either way, I like Alien. I didn't think I would as the descriptions make it sound like a gourmand-nightmare. It's dryer than you'd think, and lasts a good 9-10 hours.

Strangely appealing. Oh, and I love the bottle design: I had a crush on Emperor Ming from Flash Gordon when I was a wee bairn. Yum.

This is a gorgeous scent. I love it when I first spray it on, but, unfortunately, as it settles on my skin it becomes unbearably sweet and quite insipid. I have been told that this has something to do with my olive skin not having adequate acidity to cut through the sweetness, but who knows?

Alien is a unique perfume. It does share one aspect in common with Hypnotic Poison and Poison though; There is a very distinct, and velvety, smoky/powdery-woodsy quality that they share in the dry-down...in these fragrances, this certain 'quality' gives out a vibe that is dark, mysterious, sophisticated and sexy.

Other notes I get in Alien::: a dominant and clean Jasmine note, cool Mint (the leaf, not the candy), Almond (raw almond smell, not toasted or sugared), a hint of vanilla, warmth from the amber note, Vetiver and/or Tobacco (that velvety-smoky drydown)...and last but not least, a most tender, yet prominent, Milky-Musky note that brings to mind the scent of 'clean baby skin', present throughout the lifespan of the scent (like a combo of mint, almond, milk and musk). It's a very comforting scent and reminds me of my baby niece, the way her skin smells (well, 3-month-old babies almost always smell like milk, musk and soft soap). Summing it up, to me, Alien = Jasmine Petals + Clean Baby Skin + 'Velvet Smoke'. Soothing and tender as a newborn's touch, yet mysterious and powerful as a goddess.

Truly gorgeous, and I don't really care that this perfume is so popular and worn by so many women, it smells amazing and makes me feel elegant but also warm, cozy, and sensual when I wear it. My own preference is to wear it during night time or in cooler weather. The lasting power is good, sprayed on clothes it will linger for days, on skin atleast 8 hours. Sillage is moderate-big the first couple hours, but wears closer to the skin after that (on me atleast).

Wow, I just had to delete old review, I was WAY off. But that's what happens when in 2011 I review something I smelt in 2006 :-/

I love this scent, only Thierry Mugler knows how to create a powerfully gorgeous scent that doesn't make me sick. I love the thick Jasmine in the EDP, it's so forceful an dominant. The EDT has a hit of moroccan jasmine and citrus, that which I'm not nearly impressed with as the EDP.
I hope my girlfriend really likes this.

There is nothing gourmand and yummy about Alien. It's fierce and beautifully strange all the way through, like Poison. Angel is a big softie compared with Alien. Alien is such a strange and uncompromising fragrance that everyone will notice it no matter how lightly you apply it.

Only get it if you are ready for something way way beyond chypre. It's easy to admire this perfume, but it's not so easy to wear, it's so not everyday. But it could become an addiction.

Alien is heavy on the jasmine! Soapy jasmine. After a while a hint of vanilla appears, but the jasmine is still prominent and loud. This is to my nose a very sharp and rather linear fragrance. It makes me wanna sneeze; too much jasmine has that effect on me. It does turn into a weak version of Vanille Noire by Yves Rocher at the end; a bit earthy, some vanilla. The staying power is not that good either, it disappears after approximately 4 hours. Alien is not how I expected it to be like at all. Oh well.

Mugler is the absolute grand vizier of fragrance. In terms of his body of work, Mugler is unsurpassed in creativity, genius, potency, packaging/bottle, quality, and originality (Angel, A men, B men, Allien, WOMANITY...need i go on?) , and this is coming from an absolute parfum addict. Alien is one of those perfumes that will have you lifting your jaw off the floor. Imagine a hot muggy day...and you walk by a jasmine bush. sweet sensual full voluptous scent of jasmine with beeswax....this is so divine. mugler makes truly amazing perfumes. where parfum actually means parfum. sillage? oh yeah. lasting power? til you bathe lol

Woah, oh my gosh, so ridiculously cloying. The jasmine notes create an in-your-face sweet but tart dominating smell. At first spray there is the faint smell of bug spray and then it floats into nothing but jasmine. It's pretty linear, just that annoying jasmine. I bet those who love it can smell the other notes on their skin, and I wish I could on my own. Otherwise, really not worth the price tag for just jasmine.

Somehow I just can't understand the appeal of this fragrance. Perhaps the name is what turns me off more than the scent? Perhaps the combination of name and fragrance? At last a TM fragrance I am able to wear. Whilst I like his scents I can only stomach them for half an hour before one or all the following occur.
1) my stomach starts to groan with hunger due to their sweet foodie aromas
2) a headache throb begins and NOTHING can get rid of it except a cold shower
3) self conscious thoughts take over and I retreat from others around me in fear that I reek and am offensive to allergy sufferers.

But Alien has the worst of TM dialed down whilst retaining his best.

Alien, a horrid name and bottle, delivers a feminine scent with soft woody spice and floral honey nectar.

I do however fear this is a scent I will tire of relatively quickly.

This is pretty much exactly as it's described; warm, woody and full of amber. The jasmine does kind of float over the top, not strong, but with that kind of subtle scent that jasmine has which makes it seem delicious and somewhat cloying to anyone who smells it. Very lovely perfume, quite strong, though rather linear, but a challenge to the perfume world? No. It's not that original I'm afraid.

Normally, I won't even give a chance to try a fragrance with jasmine as one of its main components. I happened to sniff Bvlgari Jasmin Noir and detest it at all. Dusty jasmine and musk, musk, musk!

At the first time I tried this perfume, I don't have any idea that it has jasmine in the top note. All I can smell is a vivid, dark yet sexy, uniquely sweet scent that I've never smelled before. Soon as I searched for it in the internet, I found that the wonderful scent comes from jasmine! I was quite shocked as I never knew jasmine can be that nice.

Alien is really masterpiece, such an astounding mix of jasmine and amber. Moreover I agree with some other comments who think that this fragrance deserves the title of 'Angel' better than the original Angel. I only have a 15ml little bottle of this cute stone but will get the full-size one soon for sure!

*edited: I recently bought a 30ml sized one. Yay! It worths every penny you spent, plus the bottle is truly elegant and cool!

My young daughter wears this and LOVES it. She gets lots of compliments. So I treated myself as I liked it on her and providing you do not over do it..it can be a beautiful scent. I think too many women spray on too much of the heavier scents which can be so off putting. Just a little of this on the skin can be wonderful, for nights full of soft warm togetherness - not for doing the shopping in!

Totally agree with you Seneca, first time I smelled this, it was a student of mine. A thin girly girl,
with brains. I passed by and thought the smell really suited her, smelled like an angel.
I asked her what she was wearing, and she thought it was Angel. But I really dislike Angel and couldn't recognize it either.
Yesterday (two years later)I smelled Alien in the shop, and poof! There it was! I do like aliens as I love Star Trek ;-) I should call this Angel, as it is soft, fresh and ultra feminin!
Angel itself is more a Darth Vader to me: harsh, cruel and synthetic..

Hi.

When a man stops you and ask what are you wearing? It smells Great. You know it is worth every penny you spend and in my opinion THIERREY MUGLER fragrances have this sensible characteristic just like ALIEN.It is Dark, slightly Decadent and so Alluring.in other words Magnetic,Woody,Irresistible,Strong, Exotic,Glamorous,Sensuous and Modern.

At first spray it can be a powerful and heavy burst but as it fades i found it to be quite Lovely. It finished with Amber. This is a winning combination for a perfume that screams Seduction of skin as it takes your senses in a Intoxicating Fancy to a For-Off land as it smells like a Dark Mysterious forest in a fairy tale or a Princess living in the forest.

Totally most prominent to me is a mix of Jasmine and Wood. The perfume lasts all day only with 2 or 3 sprays.Cool Autumn Evenings and Dreary winter moments come alive with ALIEN and this is due the base notes and definitely Amber. If you want to draw the attention of Men to you in a Party this is a Noticeable perfume but not for Everyone.

Sillage?Impressive.

Longevity?Lasts and Lasts.

Thank You THIERRY MUGLER

I can't believe this fragrance only has three notes in it because it smells a lot more complex. I'm not a fan of this personally, but I can see why others might like it. I think this is one of those scents that does something weird on my skin, but probably works for many women.

On me, it smells really sour. I was very shocked by the first spritz because it smelled so much like wet potting soil! I didn't enjoy that at all. I don't get much of a woodsy smell until an hour has gone by. As the scent evolves, the potting soil note fades away, and what's left is more of a slightly sour amber smell. I never detected any jasmine or flowers whatsoever.

I just sprayed Alien on me and i can smell the magic of Christmas!
I live in Greece (south-east Europe) and today the wether reminds me spring, no winter for us :-(
Alien is woody and dark and sexy, not suitable for every woman, also not suitable for every occasion.
I have the bottle for 2 years and the smell has changed, now it is more woody and less floral.
At fist i could smell all this jasmine and gardenia scent, but now these notes are more light.
Despite this i still find the perfume charming and noticable.
I will definetely buy a bottle again.
Too strong, sensual with great lasting power!
I will never get bored of this fragrance.

It's definitely jasmine at full blast when you first spray this on. And I think you really have to LOVE jasmine in order to appreciate it. Alien knocks Bvlgari Jasmin Noir out of the park as far as sillage and overall loveability. It's soft & feminine, reminds me a tropical sea island mist carrying the scent of jasmine through my window. I like it, enjoy it, but all in all it's not 100% me in order to invest in a bottle. I will however treasure my small sample of it, and will certainly use it if I'm ever in the mood for something totally jasmine.

Now when I got a 15ml bottle of this, which besides looks like a little roach corps I will finally review it.

The bottle design and the perfume itself are very original and I can see many reasons why someone wouldn't like it. Alien is very assertive, cold and kinda synthetic in first few minutes. Then it starts it's magic. Jasmine+woods=so simple, so awesome. It's very hard to describe because it can't be compared to any other fragrance.
Hey Alien, I could sing to you "Black metallic" by Catherine Wheel because I'm really incapable of descibing you in perfume-world-terms. With lots of love. W.

Smells exactly like rootbeer. I don't like it only because it reminds me so much of that rootbeer smell, but its tolerable, nothing out of the ordinary or diffrent like the name "alien" suggests.
---
tried this again two weeks later and I love it. It doesnt smell like rootbeer to me anymore but it does smell like if you were to put your nose to a can of rootbeer (not so carbonated) and smell the weight and atmosphere of it...does that make sense? It is unique, and I would wear it when I want to feel darker or mysterious
---
It is now my most favourite scent!!! Wow, how strange that it took me soo long to love it but I do and what I love most about it is that the intial spray and dry down are fairly similar, and this does not just dry down to a plain note. You can still smell the top and bottom notes on the dry down, and it is just as nice as when you first sprayed it.

This is a perfume that my explanation won't give justice.its just a special fragrance that should be sprayed with a light hand. It is a modern fashion forward scent. I received a sample of this and have tested it at least 7 or 8 times, in order to give Alien a fair chance of captivating me. However, enough is enough, more would be masochistic. It starts out as a blast of something akin to nail polish, but nail polish smells too pleasant compared to Alien. It continues to smell harsh and synthetic until I can't take it anymore and wash it off. Which can be many hours. I smell benzoin in it which can be a real killer for me, though it is not listed in the notes. The jasmine smells very floozy to me. All in all, really a bad scent for me.

- I am 25 and have worn this for about a year. I adore this scent. I get complements literally every time I wear it. It is very strong so one spray goes a long way- and it WILL last all day- no doubt. I had a co worker like it so much, she went and bought it- but ended up returning it b/c it didn’t smell the same on her as it did on me. I wasn’t a believer that “it’s your body chemistry and the perfume that have to click”- but after smelling this on her, I believe it b/c it resembled ‘Off’ Bug spray on her skin. It’s a very sexy smell, but softens up a lot to a nice floral. I would never spray it and run out the door b/c I would say it takes a good 30 minutes to calm down. My boyfriend complains when I spray it b/c it can be overpowering, but he loves how it smells on me afterward. I do recommend spraying it on freshly showered skin b/c it doesn’t last as long or smell as good if us use it later in the day. I think ive found my signature- definitely sample it before you buy because it’s pretty expensive- but one bottle will last a year (unless you like taking whore baths in your perfumes) so the price is even instead of buying 3 bottles of something cheaper.

13 years later Thierry Mugler proves she still has the magic. Alien is Mugler’s first major fragrance for women since Angel. The perfume bottle is somewhat odd but unique, It really is one of the most spectacular and original bottles I have ever seen.

What they do is put time and effort into a few select products, working hard on the design, and using the finest ingredients to produce something spectacular. Completely different from some of the most prestigious 'Parfums houses', who makes like two fragrances in 1 year, and you can practically smell the same scent in others fragrances out there, nothing new.

The initial notes are fairly woody, and I have to be honest, this strong woody smell, was the reason why I didn't like Alien. But I can't judge a Fragrance only by the first seconds, because Alien grows on your skin and change. This is like the kind of magic produced only by ''Big Scents''. In this metamorphosis, Alien reveals its hidden secret, showing us the beautiful notes of jazmin, and an oriental amber infusion that is deep and sexy.

One spray or squirt and I feel instantly powerful, glamorous and sexy. Is definitely a "night" perfume. The lasting power is Sublime!

Alien is truly a masterpiece!

All of Mugler's fragrances are a little "Alien," and I mean that in the best sense. Out of this world and vastly unique. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but the truth is... people degrade and cast out the things that they do not understand. Maybe your chemistry doesn't work with Alien, or Angel... but don't deny its quality and efforts.

I tried this one on today on me and it smelled nice but I kept smelling something strange almost like menthal in it ( guess it was the jasmine everyone is talking about ). I came to the conclusion that it might be offensive to some people and chose against it. I washed my arm good and could still smell it. It has staying poser that's for sure.
I've retried this and got a much better reaction, guess you must try this in different seasons. I no longer find anything annoying about this scent but I am not running to buy it either. Perhaps the next time I try it I will fall in love.

I don't own this scent..."yet" but I just sprayed my sample on myself and OMFG this is divine. I sprayed the tiniest drop because I was quite wary of anything from thierry mugler after my heinous experience with his angel.

This is no angel. This is an alien from a world where instead of breathing in oxygen they breathe in the most etheral scented air of flowers and bliss.

I might just have to throw all caution to the wind and buy myself a bottle of this today. What a unique and transcending experience.

Thumbs up for alien.

Alien is deep, smoky, gothic, mysterious. I smell something like a combo of tobacco leaf + patchuli + mint, that's weird to my nose.

Totally has no sweetness, would not be sensual on a little woman, it's for bold and confident women only.

Lasting is amazing, 7~8 hrs. Impressive enough, but alien to my taste.

Ok, I know this is a cold weather scent so trying it for the first time in the summer may not reveal its total personality. However, I asked for suggestions for bold & daring perfumes. This one kept coming up, I got it, and it was sitting there looking at me, daring me. What was I to do?

I apologize ahead of time because detailing this perfume is difficult as there are notes I can’t find adequate words for. There are most definitely more than 3 main notes to Alien; I think it’s the perfumer’s way of keeping Alien mysterious. At first spray there is a completely foreign (or alien, lol) note to it that I can’t begin to describe. I also get an “Ice” note. Maybe it’s more of a feeling than a note but it’s unmistakable. I also get some sort of berry note, as well as sweet and vanilla.

Although Jasmine is listed as the top note, I don’t get it for a few minutes. Either that or it’s overpowered by all the other opening notes. As it progresses, I get the jasmine which is a bit sharp at some points imo. I also get a creamy/milky note and some of the wood note. The amber here is deep, sensual, and warm but I suspect there are other resins of some sort. There’s another note in there that’s kind of primal that I can’t quite identify. Vetiver maybe? It’s not earthy, I don’t think it’s patchouli, it’s not spicy. Whatever it is, the jasmine keeps you from pinpointing it. The note allows you a glimpse every now & again but not enough to figure out what it is. Just adds to the mystery I guess.

This scent is unlike anything I have smelled before. It’s disturbing in a way, and yes, alien. As it stands (in the summer heat), I am intrigued by it but the berry & sharp jasmine make me hesitate a little. There is enough to it even with that, that I would still call this one suited for my personality. I wonder if I like it this much now in the heat of the summer, how I will feel once it’s at its full potential in the winter.

P.S. The bottle looks like a chunk of mined amethyst with an emerald facet cut to me.

I wanted to like it; the purple fluid, the intriguing name, the beautiful jasmine note. Unfortunately I get a licorice smell somewhere in this that throws off any enjoyment I might have otherwise gotten out of this.I despise licorice smells so its very obtrusive and rather distracting from the main event to me.

I will say that the dry down is very nice, and the notes intertwine beautifully. Like Angel, it is a statement fragrance and a little goes a long way. This deep and smokey jasmine is gorgeous, but I can't get it to work for me. It is definitely a mature and confident fragrance, for a woman who
is comfortable in her own skin and not afraid of the alien within.

EDIT: Purple candy. If you can imagine what that would smell like, then you have this fragrance. Try as I might, I get no jasmine, no sandalwood, nothing but purple candy. Rather like these grape flavored purple teddy bear lollipops I used to have as child.

...and even though I said "Alien" doesn't trick the subconscious or resemble anything carnal, I must add that there is a watery-milky quality to the jasmine in "Alien", that can set the mind traveling far back--really far back, like, to being a baby. Clean jasmine that doesn't overripen into something putrid on the skin, can do that--mimic an estrogen-laced skin scent, which might explain why Jasmine is often rated so highly by heterosexual men taking part in fragrance studies. No wonder the guys who have smelled this on me went mad with delight. It screams Mommy/"friendly femme-bot" and promises lots of pleasant things to them. 'nuff said.

As per "Wristsniffer":
"...There is something magical about it - a vaporous quality that brings to mind the fake swirls of smoke from special effects like dry ice..."

I completely agree. In another review elsewhere, I mentioned how it almost evokes freeze-dried or cold-preserved jasmine and maybe lilies. Like fresh, waxy-crisp jasmine blooms, preserved in a chemical bath and then chilled. If the jasmine in "Alien" wasn't so clean-smelling and not remotely carnal, I'd even say it might veer dangerously close to evoking cold or "clammy" skin. But the jasmine isn't and so, it doesn't. "Alien" also brings to mind cool, windswept nights and all the excitement that goes along with them; evenings out and about, on the town at carnivals or movies or maybe even anticipation of a romantic tryst. Minty-fresh breath and the exciting moment when you can feel a change of seasons on the air. It also makes me think of fresh, cool, clean linen and rolling down sheets for the night; sanitized but with the lingering scent of "musky human skin", forever embedded into the fabric--nomatter how many times you clean them. Like very old, but very clean cotton t-shirts. "Alien" also has that almost dewy-austere quality that Dior's "Dune" does, bringing to mind sand dunes and desert, but then it evolves into something far more accessible and technicolor in character, as the jasmine blooms begin to warm and weep with condensation. I'm ususally someone who totally dislikes fragrances that scream "I'm a synthetic perfume, I don't remotely resemble anything that could swirl up from skin without topical application" but the synthetic quality of "Alien" is one of the things that makes it so incredibly beautiful; it's art, pure and simple. It doesn't have to pass the test of tricking the sniffer's subconscious because it's interesting enough when it's in-your-face expressive. But yet, it still remains unintrusive. Odd, beautiful, gloriously fake and fabulous scent. The crystalline beauty of weirdness.

This is a very intense unlike any other. It is what the name represents. Unknown.....It starts strong very jasmine, and not to be tried on a hot summer day. It drys to a sweet warm amber and something I cannot figure out. I wear it if I want to add a mystery to my day. I can say this, compliments come, and I have yet to smell it on another.

For a perfume consisting of only 3 notes, I must say that this one had me fooled into thinking there was definitely more than just three notes.

I dare say that the test results were far beyond average!

The opening consists of a beautiful floral note that is gently cloaked in velvety wood and is laid gently down with amber.

The jasmine, wood and amber combination are in harmony. This alien perfume has broken through the cliches of normal perfumes.

I tried Alien Sunessence earlier, and enjoyed it, but wasn't crazy about it. After thoroughly testing the original Alien, I can honestly say I'm IN LOVE with this one! When I first sprayed it on, it was jasmine, but the kind of jasmine I can appreciate- earthy, natural jasmine, not common and synthetic. However, the opening was also quite loud. I felt surrounded by the fragrance wherever I went, despite having applied just one spray. But I wasn't suffocated by it and still found it enjoyable. About an hour later, it changed into something incredibly magical, lush, and sensual. It warmed up and became more woody, and wasn't quite as in-your-face. I didn't expect my boyfriend to approve, but what do you know, he was impressed! I think I love this dark, unique, bold, and feminine perfume. It's nice to find a fragrance that says "woman" without being too sweet, too powdery, etc. Definitely on my wish list!

Alien upon opening reminds me somewhat of Rochas Alchimie, a perfume of infinite beauty. Alien however seems to be more a Single White Female than a true usurper to the throne though.

I find Alien to be much more complex than the three listed notes would suggest. Firstly, Jasmine by itself would smell more indolic, this particular jasmine smelt like lemon and headaches to me.

Secondly, random unnamed woodsy notes smell random, such as if you put a mixture of rejected wood into a wood chipper and then took a tincture of their mutilated remains.

All this, with amber to fix it at the base? I really think there is more to this sordid story than Thierry is letting on.

Putting aside my suspicions for one moment, the overall result is a mess but if you name your perfume 'Alien' then that may very well be the point.

If you like your scents deep, dark, heady & potent, then give Alien a try, just be careful not to overapply on your test!

My own association with something alien would not be this fragrance. I'ts a lot better than Angel (which I really do not like), but it's not a smell which would pleasantly surprise me if another woman walked by wearing this. It's a bit heavy and not a very happy kind of fragrance, but I can appreciate why others love it. Just not my thang, I'm afraid.

I smelt this on a woman at work and just had to ask her what she was wearing...it was making my mouth water! At first I thought it might be D&G Light Blue, but it was this. It's very clean and crisp, & yes...it's strong. But it's beautifully captivating & makes the perfect fresh signature scent. I must buy a bottle soon!

Alien is the strangest scent that I've ever encounter. On me it has 3 facets. One is milky jasmine, one is sweet gasoline and one is metallic grape wine. And these facets do not at all blend together. This fragrance is so unpredictable. Just right when you think you get the milky jasmine, you turn around, the metallic grape wine shows up and there's no sign of the jasmine any where. I'm a guy and although this one is a fragrance built around a flower and targeted to women, I find it way more masculine than the floral scents for men out there like Kenzo Power or Fleur du Male. A friend of mine once comments that this scent will smell boring on a woman but on a guy it smell really interesting. There are people I know wear this and only get the jasmine, they call this a boring / unoriginal scent. Or they only get the metallic grape wine and cannot stand it. Well, I guess I am one of those luckier ones when abducted by Alien.

One downside is that I do not have huge sillage and insane longevity with this one. Just average like all other Thierry Mugler fragrances.

IT IS AN AMAZING PERFUME!
WHENEVER I SPRAY IT ON ME I SMELL THE JASMIN FOR ALMOST HALF AN HOUR AND THEN I GET A WARM, WOODY, CREAMY SCENT THAT IS UTTERLY SEDUCTIVE!
I COULD SWEAR THERE IS A CARAMEL NOTE IN THE BASE NOTES EVEN THOUGH IT IS NOT MENTIONED ANYWHERE.
AFTER AN HOUR AND A HALF ALL I GET IS CARAMEL AND IT SMELLS WONDERFUL; INNOCENT AND SEDUCTIVE AT THE SAME TIME.
IT IS SO MUGLER....GREAT SILLAGE AND LONGEVITY.

I'm really taken with this perfume!! I have worn it all day and received nothing but compliments :) I did test this once before and got a raging headache, so I was wary of trying again, but recently got an 8ml bottle and used it, fallen in love with it and simply *must* buy a full bottle! Its almost sweet, woodsy, the jasmine is spicy but beautiful.

I will give word of warning though - wear it lightly, I sprayed this several times, and the fragrance lasted for well over 10hrs and not in any fading capacity at all! It was still as strong and wafting as when I first sprayed! The sillage on this is absolutely lovely, people can smell it when you step into a room - but you won't scare them 100 miles away either, not arrogant or bold, certainly no shrinking violet, Alien knows how to turn a head without getting in their face.

I really love it, suitable for almost any occasion, just watch the hands when applying ;)

Alien is a beautiful fragrance for lovers of woody scents, and that includes me. But I can detect only woody notes after 10 mins of wearing it till the end. Just like Angel (which I think is the only fragrance I truly hate), the juice Alien has no connection with its name, the ads & the bottle.

This is my first frangrance review, i thought i would start with my favorite. Firstly let me explain what i think of when smelling a fragrance, to me a fragrance is not just a nice smell it is an accessory, a statement which completes an outfit. So when smelling a fragrance i think of clothes and where it will be worn.

The lady i imagine wearing Alien is gorgeous and sophisticated, she oozes confidence. She wears a deep onyx coloured dress that compliments her cascading dark hair. She would be going to a beautiful restaurant lit with the flicker of candles on a frosty winters night. When she removes her jacket her frangrance wafts into the air and draws everyone towards her.

When smelling Alien I can immediately smell the jasmine, it is my favorite flower thats probably why i am drawn to it. I can vaguely detect the woody notes but can most certainly smell the amber. On my skin this fragrance works well, and lasts for a very long time. It is deep and sensual.

I just washed my hands/upper arms in a sample shower wash, then dabbed some sample body lotion on top.

Help! I can't breathe! *cough*!

Jasmine-laden, yes, but also a heavy SPICINESS that makes me recoil.

My husband and daughter also cleverly detected a strong grape -- something that eludes me due to the SCREAMING jasmine/spice combo.

For the life of me I can't see wearing this during the daytime, or during summer. Or at all, really. *Shudder*!

I fell in love with this perfume few years ago and thought it could be my signature scent. It is so unusual to me and very significant. I really have tried to like this one, just because I thought the commercial was gorgeous. But everytime someone else wears this, I think 'ehwll..' It's so heavy, but in a wrong way. It gets me nauseous. The summer edition -that yellow one- I find even worse with that extra citrus going on! Am curious about the new one though (womanity, something like that?); maybe after alien and angel failing on me, the caviar will do the trick!?

Jasmine? Wood notes? All I got in my tester vial was LICORICE.

It is sensual, yes, but quite linear. Nothing really happens after the top notes explosion has tamed down.

It's not a bad thing if you're a fan of licorice. However, I'm not, so bye-bye Alien.

Alien is a lovely, very "safe" perfume. After testing both the EDP and the Perfume Oil, I settled on the latter. One thing that I enjoy about Thierry Mugler, as a brand, are the divine bath and body products that accompany their best-selling fragrances. Everything from hair mist to rich body creams to oils. The quality of Alien Perfume Oil is superb and it is a beautiful and concentrated way to enjoy the scent of Alien. I find Alien to be extremely soft and rather linear on my skin. Mostly, I get a gorgeous Amber note and a subtle dose of Jasmine. Alien smells a great deal like my Stella McCartney Stella, (which I adore). Yet, as much as I love Stella, it has very little staying power. To my nose and on my skin, Alien is quite similar to Stella, but Alien packs a little more punch and it lasts for hours and hours. All in all, Alien doesn't "wow" me, but I like it enough to buy it again. This can be worn effortlessly, day or night, any time of year.

I cannot believe I could stay away from this beauty for so many years. I guess I made the mistake of trusting the large amount of negative reviews towards it and was expecting something kitschy and obnoxious.
I was obviously wrong about Alien and only now after becoming familiar with its scent have I come to understand that its name stands for out of this world, extravagant, intriguing, and not for weird, bizarre or freakish.
Out of all the fragrances I tried so far I can definitely say that Dominique Ropion's creations are among the ones that suit me the most and this is no exception. You can definitely tell his touch by the complexity, character and perfect ballance of ingredients in this potion. I found that some sites have Alien listed as woody-oriental whereas others describe it as soft-floral. To me it's both. Calling it woody-oriental would only leave out its heavenly jasmine top notes, while describing it as soft-floral would fail to comprise the creamy amber-woody richness of its base. It's definitely a warm and quite potent fragrance which makes it perfect for cold weather. I can see how its sweetness doesn't appeal to everybody, after all no perfume manages to suit everyone's tastes , as for its heaviness I realize it would be hard to put up with if over-applied so I believe the key is moderation.
Fortunatelly ,staying power is exceptional with Alien which is more than I can say for many others, including some of my favourites. I am so happy to have finally found a perfume which doesn't make me choose between 5 minutes of fragrant bliss and 10 hours of olfactory agony!

Straight up space jasmine-actually a very clean scent on my skin. Staying power and sillage are outstanding, lasts for days on clothes. Be careful applying because it can take the air out of a room! It's quite unique- instantly recognizable when i smell it on others which is becoming more frequent(damnit!). There really isn't anything like it for comparison so a skin test should be done first to see if it agrees with you.

According to the notes and liking Angel I was expecting to be fond of Alien.
But to me it was rather boring, smelling someting like JPG Classic with an cold and artificial undertone.
At first I thought it would not work on my skin but one of my friends wears it and on her it has something disturbing to my nose still.
I find it to be too overpowering, too screaming and too synthetic for my personal taste. I don´t really understand why most people are so enthusiastic about it.
Nonetheless I have to admit that its staying power is unbeatable. When I had opened the mini-bottle the entire room and my fingers smelled like it for a whole day.
Too bad I am not a fan. ;)

Thierry Mugler ALIEN reminds me of a somewhat diluted version of the opening of ANGEL, which is not a good thing to my nose. I for one do not delight in this grape jelly/plum jam-slathered jasmine concoction. Simply too thick and gooey. Too many other things as well! If there is wood in here somewhere, it has been drowned out by the dreaded grape jellied jasmine. Not for me. Enough said!

Reading from the description, this perfume has Indian jasmine as a top note. I don't know what is it; true jasmine or parijat (Nyctanthes arbor-tristis), which I have never smelt. So what I notice the most when I smell Alien is heavy jasmine, wet wood, nuts, vanilla, and also grapes as said below; in my skin, this perfume gets better with time and is far easier to stand than Jasmin Noir by Bulgari, which seem to be so generally loved.
I wouldn't buy it, I actually don't like it, but it has some good things. I can understand that Alien is to some people something similar to what Eden is to me and others who love it. If Eden makes me think of deep greens and rainy climates, I find Alien to be deeply blue, evoking summer Arabian nights: Jasminum sambac behind the fences, old men singing in the doors of their homes, species and tobacco, and people going somewhere through the narrow streets.

I find this perfume confusing. To start with, the entire advertising campaign & image lead me to believe it would be a light, airy ethereal experience, which it most certainly is not- anything but! I think it's an amazing and original perfume and enjoyed it enough on first trying to purchase a small bottle, but after a couple of times wearing it, I found it far too 'present' and began to grow tired and then seriously sick of the stink! I tried it a couple more times, but same thing- overwhelming, overpowering, over...everything! Ended up giving it away. I enjoy the opening best, I find it unique, imaginative and seductive, but the drydown and everything after is just too strong and nauseating and seems to block out all other smells. Definitely not for the fainthearted- EVERYONE will know you're in the room, you've been in the room, you're in the next room, you're in the next town even! It's just very, very 'present'....so be warned!

This is the best perfume ever in my opinion! it's unlike anything else on the market. yes, it is expensive, but more than worth it. it smells amazing on a night out if you use a fair few sprays, but for any other time, use sparingly! it is such a strong scent which definately gets you noticed - for good reasons! but on the downside, it could be too overpowering for some people. it's definately a warm, woody, sexy scent.

Thierry Mugler's creativity really comes through for this wonderful fragrance, at first I was not sure I liked it when I smelled it from the bottle. I really think you have to try this one on the skin, because what I am getting now while wearing it, is quite different from what I smelled at first.

The initial spray on my wrist is very strong, you certainly should not over apply this one, and it has settled into a very beautiful scent.

I smell the jasmine, but such a unique and beautiful crisp jasmine, and to my nose I swear I smell a soft lilac - though it is not listed in the notes.

Dark and sexy, mysterious...a perfume that shouts I am invincible, and I am all woman - I can do anything...very sensual, very different.

Ultra long lasting and excellent sillage. I can still smell it on me many hours later.

You will be noticed when you wear this one. I love it and my husband loves it too!

Would I buy it again, absolutely YES!

I don't know why, but the scent is very vanilla on me. I get some faint amber note but mostly...vanilla! maybe it's jasmine note playing tricks on me, but i doubt that.
The scent comes out sweet and gentle on me, not very "alien" at all. A little bit synthetic tho, kinda like a bug spray...Not to bad in general, but I expected something wild and completely extraordinary, and instead i got a wearable version of avon far away (which i hate by the way) but this one seems nicer and more refined.

One thing it is not for everyone: for those , who like challenge to face with either lots of compliments or vice versa. The purple, lilac colour of a bottle is very good. Help!!! It’s the attack of the killer jasmine! That was my initial reaction when I sprayed myself with a sample that another Fragrantican kindly tucked into a package of other things. Given the name, I was expecting something weird and ethereal and space-alien like, not a synthetic jasmine monster gone berserk, swallowing everything in its path. The jasmine smell is not bad - in moderation it could probably be lovely - it’s just waaaaay too strong. Along with the jasmine there’s also a sugary tonka note and a generic drugstore perfumey note, presumably the “wood and amber”.

I debated whether or not to scrub right away, but decided to give the thing a chance to develop, meaning subside a little. However, it just kept going, and going, and going, full speed ahead. The smell was so strong that my throat was getting irritated, and I was starting to develop a headache, so I did cave in and go scrub. After a prolonged and vigorous full scrub with soap and hot water, the scent is cut down to something still quite strong, but at least bearable.

Now I see why this perfume is called Alien. It’s one of those creatures that masquerades as an earthly being, but then sticks its creepy tendrils into your flesh and parasitizes your body. Now I’ll never be rid of it, and it will hatch baby jasmine monsters that will pop out of my skin and infect everyone who comes within 400 meters. I’m so glad I tried this when I was home alone! The scent itself isn’t too bad, and I could actually imagine enjoying it if it were diluted to about 10% of what it is in the vial and dabbed on exceedingly sparingly.

If you like delicate, quiet perfumes, then Alien is not for you. I think Alien is a gorgeous perfume, albeit a strong one with lots of spice and kick.

The jasmine in the top is very peppery and thick; this fragrance has an incredibly heavy, spicy opening. I always waver between wanting to wash some of the first spray away because it's so darn strong and taking deep breaths to enjoy the exotic richness of the peppery Indian jasmine.

But once the woodsy notes emerge, the jasmine is rounded and smoothed out a bit; the scent does becomes somewhat less peppery- but certainly not weaker. If you dislike jasmine, you'd probably do well to avoid Alien, because the jasmine is dominant for at least the first thirty minutes of wear.

The amber adds a lot of powdery softness to the dry down, and a shade of sweetness. The scent becomes markedly less strong, although it does last for several days on clothes. In the end, I smell jasmine, woodsy accords and lightly sweet powder. It's quite pretty.

This perfume makes me feel confident and sexy. I have it on my list of perfumes that I love. While I certainly wouldn't wear it every day, it is a sensual treat for a special occasion. I think Alien is best suited for nighttime and cold weather. I only have a small vial of this perfume, but I hope to get a full bottle eventually.

Fantastic perfume. 1st smelt it on someone else and had to know what it was. Its definately a 'hello im here' scent but is not cloying or disturbing in any way, it just keeps you fascinated and wanting more. For saying it only has 3 ingredients it smells far more multi-faceted. Its ambery, musky, sexy and out of this world. The longevity is the best i have ever come across in a fragrance! This is easily a 24hr scent and is pefect for any occasion, day or night. This is an absolute 'must-have' p.s loving the bottle ;) x

I have never smelled a perfume I hated more and immediately than Alien. Recoil. Stink on steroids. I had to wash it off because it was so sickening. I've been wearing Alien for three days now. When I first sprayed it on, it seemed unbelievably strong, with jasmine, and some other things in the background that I couldn't quite pick up on. Within a couple of minutes though, it settled into something very sweet and creamy with amber. I liked it a lot. But this perfume deserves its name. The entire day, I would be struck with odd little smells popping up to say "hi!" They would drift to the top, then suddenly vanish. Several of the things I smelled were:

Crushed tropical fruit tums
bug spray
nail polish
baby powder
sour cherry
plastic (like a Band-Aid)

None of these were unpleasant, just...strange. I'd notice it, then I'd smell myself, and I still smelled delicious. It was as if the perfume was pulling a "Chevy Chase," making funny faces behind my back. Or when you see a lovely white diamond, but it catches your eye with a flash of blue or green or red. I like this a lot for every day. I don't know yet how it will play on a hot date, but I'll edit this when it happens.

I think this one is waaaayy to heavy and overpowering.. What I love about a perfume is that its subtile.. That only people who come close to you smell a nice scent..

With Alien you can smell a person even when they left an hour ago.. That's not nice! That's overwhelming and it makes that you really want to breathe in some fresh air.

This is a very strong, agressive smell. It is bothering when I wear it, too much, smells like medicine.
Although, I sampled it one night, finding nothing else to spray in my purse on a night out, and a guy complemented me on how fresh and flowery I smelled... . Two adjectives I would never use for Alien, maybe I get the wrong impression?

This smelled very soapy on me and just got stronger as time went on. I was on a night out with some old friends and wearing Alien and they kept saying, i smell soap!

Alien does get noticed as people have asked me what i was wearing, but im not sure it was in a good way.

I liked the initial smell but as time went on couldnt wait to scrub it off, it just didnt suit me. Glad i only bought a tester.

I am still experimenting with perfumes and expected orientals to be warm but for me quite a few I have tried are cold and soapy! Guess i will keep experimenting.

I got two little sample vials of this to try. At first spray I was mildly impressed with the depth of the jasmine and good sillage, but didn't really experience any "wow" factor as such. My partner, however, did comment that he thought I smelt good.
I spritzed on a tiny bit at work, and four different people wandered up to me to tell me how good I smelt. One colleague told me that his aunt used to wear this and he adored it, used to breathe in deep whenever she walked past. I said that I wasn't entirely sure how taken I was with it. His reply was "Well, I think it's wonderful. It's indescribable. Please keep wafting some my way!"
Maybe in a chemical sense it's quite simplistic. But having worn it for a little while, I think that's the beauty of it. It isn't a multitude of smells thrown together, it's a few scents, composed magnificently, that are wonderfully complementary. The jasmine is deep and dark. The drydown is quite beautiful, woody but feminine. The whole composition is so well blended and works together beautifully.
I think if I had tried this at a perfume counter, alongside other perfumes, I might have discounted it completely. But having worn this for a little while, Alien is slowly working some sort of spell on me. It's taken a little while for me to really "get it", but now I just love it. It makes me feel very feminine, elegant, strong but mysterious at the same time. I'll definitely be buying myself a bottle very soon!

I used a sample vial of this perfume in no time flat and loved it so much that my DH surprised me with a FB for Christmas.

There is nothing alien about this perfume to me, it's incredibly pleasurable and straightforward. As soon as I spray it on, I smell very strong and pretty sweet jasmine, very natural. This smell reminds me how as a a child I was walking home from the beach and every time I stopped at the jasmine bush. I'd stick my entire face in the bush until my nose turned all yellow from the pollen. I wore the yellow pollen proudly as I kept walking home.

Within minutes the smell of jasmine becomes less intense and the woodsy notes start to work their magic on my skin, making the floral scent warm and delicious... when I wear Alien, this beautiful warm jasmine smell stays with me about 2 hours, give or take, and then turns into a sweet amber. This amber is sweeter than any amber I have tried before (Ambre de Cabochard from Gres, Sensuous Amber from Bath and Body Works, and definitely sweeter than the darker Ambre from L'Occitane en Provence) and it stays forever, at least overnight.

I do think it's a strong perfume, but I cannot help it wearing it both day and night. I am counting on true friends to let me know if it's obnoxious, but I've only gotten compliments so far.

I think it is a modern classic. So few fragrances stand out. Alien along with a few others do. If you are not wanting to smell like everyone else and are a bit daring then TRY IT! It sure isnt Angel, but I think a much better fragrance.

It does start out sweet, but the woody notes in the drydown bring a whole new dimension to it. A very good choice for anyone who wants to try something off the radar.

Different as all Thierry Mugler creations. I really like the 'alien' concept and there is definetely something ethereal about this scent. Strong and linear this scent is nothing like all other fragrances.

Even though I would not wear it myself I still think it is a strong TM creation. Actually I wouldnt wear any of TM perfumes but I still respect these fragrances for their originality.

Remember sampling this before on a perfume counter - and ending up washing it off pretty soon.

I'm afraid that history is going to repeat itself. There was a neat little sample pack between the sheets of a magazine... ...and I sprayed.

To be honest I don't really get the full concept of Alien. What is the otherwordly component of this heady, almost single note perfume? On my skin the base of amber and wood is almost undetectable, the all intrusive, cloying jasmine keeps them so tightly in the background for several hours that I really don't have a nerve to wait the drydown, especially when the jasmine starts to turn sour on my skin. After half an hour there are detectable aromas of beer and sweat lingering under the still aggressive flower. To be honest I'm pretty scared about the thought of universe filled with jasmines...

This is not to say that I don't like jasmine, but my jasmine needs to be more rounded and wrapped to other components to actually work. Dior Poison is mentioned here before - and I would say that all Alien notes are present in original Poison, but the Poison blend has other components too, being so much more complex and interesting. In Poison jasmine acts merely as a carrier of strong and interesting sillage, on Alien it plays a solo. Poison is much more wearable on me, although it needs very light hand use.

I'm not a big fan of Alien packaging, either. It looks cheap and there is too much try without much of design success. Ok, I like the basic concept but not the execution. Edit - and the current ads with chick in gold corsetry can make it directly to the "worst of photoshopping" gallery. This is seriously f***ed up branding...

Don't get me wrong. If you enjoy strong, heady, quality jasmine - and don't mind about the conceptual dissonance behind this straightforward scent, you probably get lots of wear out of Alien. But it is definitely not for me.

BTW oriental woody does not sound like right category to Alien. I would put it into oriental floral - or just straightforward floral. The backup of oriental notes is so light.

Edit... ...oh, crappers, how can I get rid of this jasmine...

Many reviews have been written about this perfume and I've enjoyed reading them. You can see it evokes diverse opinions, as for me aswell.

I started out being disturbed by this fragrance when I tested it first time and I can't say I liked it immediately. Anyway it was something about the smell that kept on disturbing me, in a good way, and I wanted to comprehend this perfume. For me it was is a challenging perfume that kept me coming back for many test rounds. And the more I got used to it the more I started to long for it anytime I didn't smell it. I guess I can say I do like it and it has become addictive smell for me.

Many things have been said about this fragrance so the review made short:
It has a lot of heavy jasmine and wood, on my skin the combination provokes a warm anise note combined with jasmine, wood and amber. In one word, it is a STRANGE perfume.

Houston, we have lift-off! I've just sprayed Alien onto my skin and already I'm traveling through the galaxy moving further and further away from Earth. I float on, entangling myself in a web of orange blossom and jasmine, passing through Jupiter and Saturn in the process. The universe surrounds me, capturing me in its embrace as the stars invade my senses with the tantalizing aroma of velvety vanilla. I'm dizzy with sweetness as ardent amber and spicy woods overwhelm me. All nine planets are aligning as a dark, purple haze envelopes me, heating my skin. After hours and hours of this pleasantly sweet trek, I slowly begin my descent back to the Earth with the sweet, sweet smell of jasmine and amber traveling behind in an inducive array. Still mortal, but never forgetting my ALIEN EXPERIENCE!

It's been awhile since I have smelled such a strangely exotic and beautiful scent. Alien stands on it's own. This is unlike any other. From the initial spray, through the drydown, and all the way until you bathe it off, it makes such a statement! And it lasts that long too. This is the scent of blooming jasmine, grapes, and heady sparkling musk. It makes me think of a glamorous movie star or singer from the 1980's, someone who is decked out from head to toe in gold lame and sequins with smoky eyes and sculpted cheekbones. Not for everyone, but on that person it works, right? Definitely a fragrance of decadence and beauty, if you can pull it off.

I really dont like Alien. To much jasmine and powdery notes. To strong and soapy. So not for me.

I dont enjoy strong scents, or even better sead I dont know how to wear them. Their loud presence drives me crazy.

If I neglect my subjective standings I must say Alien is good for winter, perfect for people who usually love the shout of flowers, and soapiness that lingers on skin during entire day.
And from totally objective point I must say the bottle design resembles to an alien. It is ugly.

Alien reminds me of our garden when i was a kid, a garden full of jasmine! I used to remember te smell of our garden when the jasmines are in full bloom. My grandfather used the chicken wire as our garden's roofing so the jasmines vine can go up there. Imagine how lovely it is? and not to mention, jasmine is our national flower.
Anyway, alien smells familiar to me. I didn't expect it would remind me of my childhood memories. The jasmine is dominant. It's not strong at all. On my skin, it lingers very lightly. I didn't get the woodsy notes.
Thierry Mugler's Alien is a perfection. He makes jasmine even more special.

Dry, woody jasmine in all its beauty. I know, some call this fragrance synthetic, well, maybe it is, but just in a perfect way (actually I believe this synthetic feeling is because of the dryness). Deep, but bright and transparent... as someone before said, very futuristic. Something above the stars. And what a beautiful name!.. not to mention the bottle... non-conformistic or banal. It's not cute and soft, rather 'hard' and illusory distant in a good way. It's like a journey to your innermost feelings and desires. I adore Alien.

Being a huge fan of Angel I decided to try Alien. Before I start I must say that the bottle and packaging is absolutley the most orginial one I have ever seen. Anyways I tried it on and well the first thing I smelled was...
Flowers mixed with wood. That smell stayed on during the whole time the scent was on my skin. But I believe that while Angel is a bold, sweet, glamourous and sensual Victorias secret angel. Alien is like a beautiful, simplistic, delicate and fragile princess from outerspace. But when I smell this I imagene myself seeing a pale and rather thin woman. With blonde hair wearing a white gown floating upon layers of chiffon. Just like the scent not beautiful in a conventional sense but extremely captivating.

I love jasmine, and this one is heavy jasmine. I am aware that not everyone likes jasmine, however. I can't make up my mind whether I like or dislike Alien...One minute I like its attitude and sultriness, the next I'm longing for a fresher scent. Perhaps I would like an EDT instead of EDP....and I might spray this on the inside of my calves instead of my neck...or try Alien lotion.

In the end, I almost can't get enough of it. Sweet!

Update: I've heard some people say this scent smells heavy like cigars or garbage (hahaha), but Alien requires some time and patience (and trust?) to sink into the skin-It becomes very sexy, and the scent is not floral or woody or spicy, or anything like I can describe-just very elegant, velvety, dark, warm and a bit cold at the same time. I am not a fan of Mugler, but this scent is high on my list of favorite designer fragrances(as opposed to niche, drugstore, artisan, etc....)!

Update much later:
I have to say this fragrance doesn't smell much like natural jasmine-I smell a unique amber note that I now refer to as the "Mugler amber"-it's a bit heavy, modern, and smells both hot and cold at the same time. I still think the opening isn't so much beautiful as strong and fascinating, while the dry down is pure femme fatale and just smells gorgeous on my skin. This is one of those perfumes that really smells "synthetic"-but great to me. I am not a fan of "synthetic" smells-but if you found this to be a scrubber, I think you should really let the top notes and aggression pass to smell the magic-not an easy perfume, but a beautiful one-that's how it deserves its name. That is also why I don't regularly wear it, though I will never swap my bottle.

I was so disappointed when I tried Alien because Angel is my alltime favorite and my sons wear Thierry's signature cologne and I just love that. There is a mystery ingredient in some perfumes that I absolutely loathe, which is so overpowering in Alien that I had to jump in the shower because the scent was making me ill. It is also present in perfumes such as Poison, most of the Dolce and Gabbana lines, Red Door, and it is the base note you are left with when wearing all cheap perfumes like Avon or Mary Kay and the types you find in drugstores. I try alot of samples from ebay, so if anyone knows what this component might be please let me know so I can seriously avoid it.

Bought a 0.27 oz bottle during a sale, as I figured it was my best shot at 1) owning Alien for a reasonable price, 2) making my mother love this scent, which she does. I agree that both the name and the bottle can be of-putting. Don't let it sway you. I personally love the bottle and it's name, which are both a bit of mind trip. Is it truly 'alien'? Perhaps a better name would have been 'Demon', as it seems to be the exact opposite of Angel.

I agree that it does smell futuristic at first, especially if you don't know what to expect. But in the end, it is very much a modern perfume, that might remind you of the classic perfumes, such as Poison (more so if you bought a fake edition of such).

But Alien is delicious. First I smelled jasmine, but then a woody, smoky scent popped up, which made me love it even more. I don't really understand this one. It's cold, it's mysterious, distant and yet beautiful and warm. I swear I do smell tobacco in this. Amber is a given. So is jasmine, which is wonderful and develops almost instantly on my skin.

So I don't get the 'coldness' in it. The individual notes are warm. So why does it 'feel' so cold and distant? Very odd indeed. I almost want to say that it brings up images of a potions shop with a variety of sweet, likable and foul, throat gagging potions, with a fire somewhere in the distance. This one is for 'witches'. It's definitely very confident, very naughty and then becomes even more confident when the smokiness comes through.

It is definitely strong, but those that didn't like Angel, such as I did should definitely try this out. Whatever put me off in Angel, definitely isn't part of this scent. Try it. Try to appreciate it. And try not to fall madly in love with it.

When I first tried Alien, I developed a nagging headache. I thought "Oh No! Not the Red Door effect again!" (Red Door being notorious for causing headaches)
But it turned out I was just getting the flu ;-)
Which was great, because I loved it from the first spray.
At first I could smell tobacco. Not the nasty smell of cigarette smoke, but the earthy, almost yeasty scent of cured tobacco. I don't know where it came from, but it was a nice surprise. I was expecting a more traditional 'womanly' scent.
Most people mention the jasmine, but I just don't get it. I mean, the jasmine is there, but it's so quiet on me. Oddly, a friend of mine tried it, and the jasmine jumped out and stayed for ages. Still nice, but you wouldn't have thought it was the same perfume. Gotta love individual body chemistry :-)
The earthy, woodsy, smoky 'tobacco' scent with just a tinge of rich jasmine is stunningly different, and long lasting.
I just spray it on above my belly button, and it sort of rises and drifts quietly; like the smoke of a distant camp fire.
One spray, no more. I reckon it would easily be overwhelming in high doses ;-)
Give it a try, and see what it does on your body before buying. I don't think it's for every body.
One thing I like about it; it doesn't seem to cling to your clothing as much as other perfumes.

There is no other way to describe this scent than by using the word, PURPLE. It is deep and sweet, yet airy and light at the same time. It is other-worldly, indeed. There is something magical about it - a vaporous quality that brings to mind the fake swirls of smoke from special effects like dry ice.

I was initially surprised when I received this as a gift - the name and the bottle can be quite off-putting; however, I fell in love with the perfume the moment I sprayed it on my skin and I've been a fan ever since.

There is a whole lot of sambac jasmine and amber in Alien. It starts with a blast of something sweet that's more of a purple aura than a fragrance. The top notes seem very similar to the heart notes - that is, if there are any top notes. This fragrance doesn't change much until the dry-down, when it becomes a bit smoky and very amber-y, with just a touch of woods.

Truly an experience as much as it is a perfume, Alien is something every woman should try on her skin, to allow it to develop; the paper strip doesn't do it justice.

this is a very feminine scent. If you like jasmine, you should like this because that's what I smell the entire time. The jasmine is sweet and juicy, with a slightly powdery feel after a few minutes. On my skin I don't smell woodsy anything and I don't think I can even detect the amber. If that changes, I will update later. I'm only trying it because one of the SAs the department store I went to kept pushing for me to try it. Finallyl, after buying Chanel Fraiche, she walked up to me and gave me two samples and told me to give it another try. (Keep in mind that she had already sprayed some on my wrist AND rubbed some lotion on top). So here I am....giving it another try. And still, all I smell is jasmin.

There's nothing mysterious about this fragrance to me. It's a pretty "obvious" scent. The jasmine is up front and center all the way. But I'll give it an hour and see what happens.

I've always admired Thierry Mugler's unique sense of style and approach when creating his fragrances and designing the packaging. While a fan of Angel, I wasn't quite sure of what to expect from his other fragrances. It took me a while to test Alien, his second most popular fragrance, for fear of being disappointed.

Well, I certainly was not disappointed. Something urged me to try this on my skin rather than the tester card, and I'm rather glad I did just that.

The initial spray was not at all loud and obtrusive, which was a pleasant surprise because I expected the top notes to be somewhat similiar in strength to Angel.

Alien is quite a deep floral scent, with the jasmine creating a sweet yet powdery-like smell. I like that this fragrance isn't complex and that it succeeds in appealing to a wide audience.

This fragrance has excellent sillage and lasting power. I wore this on a 5 hour train ride and I could still smell Alien wafting around me when I arrived at my destination.

The fragrance is quite versatile. I see Alien as being better suited to colder months and night time wear, however it could adapt well to any season or occasion.

Overall, I consider Alien as being a mysterious, sexy and bold fragrance. This is definitely not a perfume for the shy.

I am amazed to say that I love this stuff. Normally, I have not liked anything with heavy jasmine, but this may be the scent that turns that around for me. I have a 2 ml sample of the edp and it is only half-used after I have worn it 5-6 times, though -- that's how intense it is on me. (And it lasts forever.) I do see how the name came to be - there's something cold and futuristic about it, but it's gorgeous, clean without being soapy. This is why collecting perfume is so fascinating - just when you think a particular note will never work for you, you find that it does in a particular combination. Wow! Also, I agree that this is very different from Angel. I really dislike the sweetness of Angel and most of its flankers (except Pure Coffee), but Alien is not sweet at all.

Another "love it or hate it"-fragrance! After trying it, loving it and buying it, I discovered that it didn't work on me at all - the jasmine (when will I ever learn my lesson? Back away from the jasmine, d_s!) grew completely out of proportion, and it ended up smelling nauseating. Luckily it worked a lot better on my friend, so I gave it to her.
Still love the bottle, though - Invader Penguins from outer space!

Hmmm very interesting frag.I was expecting something else ,something sweeter ,something Thierry Mugler, but nope.this is totally different, but it is also very nice like all his other frags. This one is a cold smell, very seductive in an intelligent way, very misterious, very unpredictable. It changes all day and is very intriguing.I picture this on a brunette woman during the hot nights at the seaside on a romantic date.

"Alien" is really out of this world!

A friend of mine let me use some of her “Alien” for me to try today. So I sprayed a little dose at the back of my hand. After the first blast of intense violet has settled down, I was immediately intrigued by the presents of this unusual scent!

Intense, strange and absolutely beautiful!

The beauty of this fragrance is almost cruel! Although, “Alien” is quite heavy, it is not a warm and cozy scent. No, it is rather cool and somewhat aloof. Luring you in by its heavenly smell... but still keeping its distance. It is neither hot nor cold – nor sweet or sexy – so that it can be even worn to the office. Its “coolness” makes it even perfect for spring and summer!

“Alien” does not want to please anybody. It is not a girly, fruity “sexbomb” fragrance. It is made for the woman who does not need to proof anything to anybody (anymore) – she is self-assured and self-aware.

I don’t think that I need to mention, that I was constantly sniffing the back of my hand. I seldom did this with any other fragrance. Yes, it is true, “Alien” is not for everybody – but for the women who can put this off, this fragrance will be certainly making a leaving impression on anybody, if used in small doses.

I think this is a completely different scent than I normally wear, but it is so unique and it smells different on everyone! I tried it and so did my mom, we are both perfume obsessives, on me it was jasmine with a lovely woodsy earthy smell, on her only the woods came out she didn't get the lovely jasmine notes I graciously received. I love this and I desperately want, I think the name turns people off which is great because I don't want to smell like everyone else! I love this outofthisworld smell! :-) can't wait to add an alien to my collection ;-)

I'm still on the fence on this one. I got a mini of it, and I could smell it strongly even before I opened it. I wore it for a few hours, and couldn't decide if I like it. It is like nothing else I've ever worn. Even though I don't see it in the description, the top notes were lemon, lemon, lemon, and then definitely the musk.
It is interesting, and would definitely turn heads, but I doubt I'll buy any more.

First off, I'd like to say that the name Alien does NOT suit this fragrance at all...I hate the bottle's shape too...it looks like the head of a purple power ranger or something...it even looks kinda evil in a comical way lol. There's nothing sci-fi about this fragrance though, on the contrary it's actually very classy without being 'old'. It's also very feminine, sensual, and mysterious...picture a sultry, raven haired beauty in a midnight garden under the glow of the moonlight, waiting to meet her lover...the scent is all about seductive jasmine flirting with notes of deep, warm woods....lovely!
btw I hated Angel...so those who don't like Angel would probably like this one!

it's like it's screaming the name of Thierry Mugler as the composer of this perfume.
ok,all I get at the first sniff is a very warm and pure jasmine(without even looking at the notes),very provocative, sweet and warm.I think it gets it's warm scent from amber, but personally I don't get any woodsy note.
don't trust the simple compositions,it's really sophisticated and there's something in it that reminds me "ultraviolet" by pacco robbane.
in fact if you don't consider the name and the shape of bottle,I don't really think an alien would smell like this, but ultraviolet, which is somehow similar in shape and sense have the similar smelling.so maybe everything related to the alien world smells like this, but I doubt.
by the way, there's no doubt that it's a very good perfume.

Very long lasting to, I sprayed myself in the morning and it's still smelling. So far I think it has very good lasting power and great/BIG sillage.

It was a blind purchase from Dubai duty free (2007) as a gift for my mother. Now, its a best purchase i have ever made for her. Alien is her signature for almost every occassion. A little goes perfect (and heavy dose can destroy personality)!!! Two tiny sprays from a distance of half feet are quite enough to spread the "majestic" aroma for a crowd in huge area.

Intense blast of jasmine but settles perfectly with woody and ambery mix.

I don't know about how different is this scent, all I can say is -
I like this scents base notes and that it is long lasting.
I don't see it different, but it's fairly spicy with some flowers on a wood base, I feel I somewhere smelled it. I love it, but not having it because it reminds me my mothers perfume (which was cheap and in deep blue bottle) and Ange Ou Demon (a little bit), that's why it is no news for me.
For a difference, I can say that it is beautiful and glowing, everyone will notice you an try to sniff you.

I got a vial and immediately fell in love with it.Actually then I was on the Angel wave rather than Alien.I got a regular Alien only 2-3 days after X-Mas and could not stop spraying, it was also my NY fragrance...I adore it, it touches my skin like a steel item, may be it is because of the cold weather. It is chick, with cool elegance and veeeery seductive powdery-soapy dry-down. Thank God, the violets in the top notes are not too heavy. This fragrance really means class and style. And it is really really long-lasting but I keep on carrying it in my handbag. I got inspired and even bought a lingerie set in the same indigo color that the bottle has.

Due to the marketing, name, and bottle design, I expected a very modern and unusual fragrance. Instead, this was a warm, woody, powder scent with a soft jasmine base. Very romantic & sensual. Between Angel & Alien, my fiancee prefers this one. I prefer Angel. Like Angel, it last for hours and a little goes a long way. I'm glad to have it, but I don't feel like TM's marketing really hit upon the nature of this scent properly.

I was not bewitched with this fragrance and this elixir failed to cast a spell on me, perhaps it would perform well on another planet! The expected irresistible influence of magic with the warm, woodsy and sunny notes used was lost in translation on my skin. The jasmine, known for it's connection to Venus, hence the concept of this alien theme, was overbearing.

I'm curious though as to why amber, known for its down to earth properties (which departs from the alien topic) was used? Nevertheless, the overkill of the rich, sweet and often hypnotic essence of the earthy amber in the base lingered on to the point of a less than magical ending. I found this to be a similar interpretation of the original classic of Secret de Venus by Weil but on a much lower scale.

On a positive note, kudos to the enchanting yet bizarre motif of the purple bottle As to not discredit the talent of Thierry's creations, his Eau Luminescente which possibly is more earth-friendly will be my next fragrance to sample.

I had a bottle of this as a gift, and worked my way through it by wearing it at work with no bother - I liked that it is not over sweet, and although it is quite strong, the top notes settle down quite quickly, leaving more of a background glow. After the first few minutes it was not too attention grabbing, and I was more aware of the woody and spicy notes than the floral. Hint of black pepper in there somewhere, too. I think it could be regarded as a unisex fragrance, as I think it would work quite well on a man. And the bottle always make me (and my husband) think of the alien Vorlon Ambassador in Babylon Five, in his 'encounter suit'

This smells wonderful! Never thought I would even ever care for it. Because of the name, the bizar purple bottle and the strongness of the scent itself in it (I heard). Alien smells like a sister of the Christian Dior "Poison" family, to me -- not "Poison" itself, but maybe closer to "Tendre Poison." I like it! The perfume itself is purple though, and so I can't help but wonder if it doesn't stain clothing.
