And now that I've actually taken a look at the notes, I know what it is that bothers me so much. It's the chocolate and caramel! I feel so stupid for not figuring it out much, much earlier. I might be in a definite minority here, but I hate chocolate and don't even eat it. I hate all things overly sweet.
This is a sweet gourmand scent, and if it wasn't for the chocolate and caramel, I do think that I would like it, but that would be taking away from what Angel is.
The name is apt, I can't disagree with that. It does feel like a ascent into sugary heaven and sitting on marshmallow clouds. Unfortunately, I just don't have that much of a sweet tooth.
My sister smells divine with it and I'm sure that I do too, but I can't get over that chocolate note. But I wouldn't mind owning it just for the bottle alone. It's stunning and original.
Edit : Just as I wanted to scrub it off with a vengeance from hell, I took another sniff just to make sure, and realized that it morphed into a wonderful combination of vanilla and amber. The chocolate is still there, but the above stops me from paying attention to it any longer.
Still on the fence on this one because of the very awkward opening, but I gladly take my words back. It's nice, complex and surprising.

Other reviewers have mentioned that Angel smells differently on different people. As lolipopsneeze said, for such a popular perfume, you rarely encounter it on others.
I think that's what i love about Mugler's perfumes... for some reason they react differently depending on your body chemistry.
On me, Angel loses the fruity, lolly scents quickly, and only the more earthy, floral notes remain. And that's great.
on a colleague it smells like cookies and cream ice cream with strawberry sauce.
On me it smells like a temperate rainforest... earthy, with a touch of spring.
It's a surprising, magical perfume.
Try it a couple of times before buying, and use sparingly.

I'm with asilverfire in that I've never encountered another person wearing this either...which is odd considering it's massive popularity. Maybe a lot of people think it's too strong so they never spray much...Oh I cringe at the person who douses themselves in this.
So I'm also with everyone who says that it smells different from person to person. TRUE
On me I get loads of patchouli on first spray but I like it and I think it's sexy because it's a sweet and spicy patchouli. then about 20 minutes or so later I smell like spicy hot chocolate and vanilla maybe a little caramel but not much.I like how the patchouli plays peak a boo with my nose! I've noticed on my skin the foody notes appear rather quickly but it takes hours for them to show up on my clothes if ever. Yeah this one is a fragrance masterpiece no doubt.

As a die hard "Alien-Girl" (still waiting for my "Orange Alien" to arrive….:-)) I used to run from all the "Angel" fragrances like the devil from the holy water! All these years no wild horses could make me try even a little bit – no way! What made me flee in horror were all these women abusing "Angel" in the worst possible way – overdosing it instead of using it in moderation!
Anyhow, again, a friend of mine who owns a bottle made me finally try it.
The first encounter of "Angel" almost made me sick a little and I nearly regretted for letting my friend talk me in to it! When I thought I can not take it any longer, something magical happened – "Angel" bloomed and took me on a heavenly ride in candy-caramel, vanilla-chocolate heaven!
The citrus and fruits is saving the fragrance from being to overly sweet and girly. Instead it is playing a little "role play" - using male/female or rather "yin and yang" and therefore making "Angel" an utterly remarkable, one of a kind fragrance!
Wow, I did not expect something like this from a fragrance I would rather have crawled five miles backwards on my naked knees instead of letting this fragrance touch my skin!
What can I say…..this is truly a masterpiece! I now declare myself officially as a "Alien-Angel-Girl"! I think, I will order myself a small bottle pretty soon….. :-)

Things of the life...
So i continued using Carolina Herrera - Carolina Herrera

But, one day in a perfume store, I wanted to try Angel, so I sprayed a tester once, and then.... I WENT TO THIERRY MUGLER HEAVEN!!
"The scent.. what makes it so perfect??"
That was my question all the way home.
"Wait! Why didn't I buy that today?"
Was my other question that left me guilty at home. So, the next week, which was a few days ago, I bought Angel (the first ever Oriental Gourmand fragrance).
When I sprayed it once again on my hand, all I can smell is Cotton Candy attached to my wrist. Then, an hour later I smelled Honey poured on my hand, and it all ended in a delecious caramel scent wrapped in musk and amber.
This is the best night fragrance I have ever had. Thank You Thierry Mugler!

He doesn't notice or say anything about any other perfume that I wear.
If anyone is familiar with Spark perfume, I wore that all the time when we were first together (it's very spicy too) and he never said a word.
It breaks my heart! If he wasn't such an awesome guy and treats me like a queen, I'd seriously consider breaking up with him... At least I can wear it on days I don't see him:)

Innovative? Yes; but the best thing about Angel is that it smells different from woman to woman. You can tell it's Angel, but in another nuance. It's very potent so a slight spritz that's all you need (extra points for being a money saver).
Angel is not for the faint of heart, it needs personality to wear it. The chocolate/patchouly combo is so sexy that sreams I AM A WOMAN.

Well, the fragrance deserves its popularity.
It is remarkable.
It is very very memorable.
The staying power is unbelievable.
If you have never tried it - you have to! At least to find out on which side you are - lovers or haters:)

Angel's true beauty is in the base note. WARNING : This fragrance is bold, beautiful and powerful.
I only wear Angel when I go out clubbing. It makes me feel like I can do anything.
I hope Angel can transform your life too.

I even tried it on my 5 year old daughter, just to make sure it wasn't just my skin. Smelled awful on her too. She said "Mommy, get if off!" LOL.
My brother has some very unkind words about it which I cannot post here!

The Chocolate in this & Missoni(the perfume) are very alike & frankly I don't believe it smells very good in either of them.Interesting ...yes...Pleasurable...no. I don't know.I don't think I can totally write this off but I know I wont be rushing out to buy a bigger bottle any time soon either.

It goes on bitter, and then dries down to a sweet, chocolaty scent. I do love the contract between the top & base notes.
However, ANGEL is just too strong to wear. The notes of patchouli are especially overwhelming; it hits you straight in the face & hides the other notes for a good hour or so.
Being so strong you have to take into consideration your co-workers. It is a scent that causes migraines & sneezing so they might not thank you for wearing it!!
The bottle is stunning & the staying power is excellent.
There are just so many sense-friendly alternatives available nowadays, there’s simply no need for me to make myself ill over a perfume.
However Angel seems to have gotten a lot of good reviews so maybe I'll go and sniff it again just to be sure.

This is a delicious and very unique scent, the first of its kind. It's sexy, dark, mysterious, sweet and memorable. Surprisingly quite controversial, it seems that you will either love or hate this fragrance. I personally adore it and love wearing it especially during Winter or on a night out on the town.
When I first apply Angel to my skin, I get a very distinctive mandarin note. This mandarin is fresh, juicy and raw, smells exactly like the actual fruit. Minutes later Angel begins to smell like gingerbread men and vanilla, I can even sense a chocolatey note, but perhaps more like a mug of hot chocolate rather than a block of solid chocolate.
I find it difficult to control my sweet tooth when I wear this fragrance. I feel compelled to walk straight into the nearest bakery and buy every sweet pastry I can afford.
Don't be fooled by the name, Angel is in no way innocent and heavenly. Demon would be a better suited name for this scent.
I suggest that everyone try this at least once in their life because like Chanel No.5, it is quickly becoming a well-known classic.

A pity, because some of it's other notes are quite dry and also unusual, such as patchouli, and it's very complex, which is good. But chocolate? Can't say I have ever been able to detect cacao in it, just sugar...

Also it is one of the sexiest perfumes ever made, it is a pure afrodisiac in a star shaped bottle. Unfortunately, some people know no boundaries and spray it without sparing. This is a huge mistake, because it really needs to blend in the skin scent to work it`s magic, and it`s possible only with little doses.
I didn't like it at all.
Now as im reading all of the reviews, people are writing such good things about it. I might try it again and spray it ONCE on my wrist and give it another try.

At first it was too heavy, generic and cold. After a while, it started "melting" in my skin so beautifully. Honey with chocolate and almonds, vanilla and JUST the right amount of patchouli.
Creamy, sweet, yet a little bitter and breezy. Fantastic!
I'll test it again some more times to ensure that I love it!
Edit 1: My brother told me it smells heavenly, just when I thought it had faded.Whoa.
Edit 2 : Tested it again.Definetely in my wish list!

That being said, I won't get into HOW it smells, as there are so many reviews about that. I will, however, point out a few things I've noticed that make this scent even more unique.
Angel smells completely different on paper/clothing than on skin...if you don't like it on your skin due to the smoky camphor note you get the first few minutes, try it on your blouse instead.
Also, I know some will say not to rub your wrists after applying, but I always do with this particular scent...reason being, I find the smoky burnt candy notes go away rather quickly after this and the heart notes kick in faster. I'll admit that the heart & base notes are definitely the highlight of this fragrance, at least for me.
Lastly, this is the only scent I've ever worn that changes as my body temperature rises. The honey/melon/peach notes are at their peak when I am very warm. And despite its popularity, I've never encounted another human being wearing this, which really surprises me!

I hated it at first, but anyway sprayed it on paper richly, went home and found this Stella In Two paper. I couldn't stop sniffing it. Then I tried it on myself and got one at fall.
Really required to be used with caution - some would shout at you something about disliking this smell. I once oversprayed this fragrance, because haven't realized WHAT scent it is ( early morning ) and it was ok for me not for people around ;D My friends love/hate it.
I love the bottle, I got myself 50 ml refillable one and almost died of happiness when opened it. Sprayer is awesome for me (I like to spray a lot) if you spray fast it sprays only a little amount. I'm still surprised that I have used it kind of a long time, but it's only a little bit wasted.
That's cool, because it's kinda expensive.
I wear it every day and noticed that I kind of a bit fed up with it. But then I anyway use it. I can't keep it for occasions. With this fragrance I started to love strong fragrances.
Now, this fragrance is a real phoenix. Why, because it is addictive, once you're almost fed up (sometimes patchouli is really nasty), after few days it becomes sweet chocolaty fresh fruity (wonderful, perfectly balanced, warm, best...). I can't resist long without it. It has it's own character.

But now that it's winter.....PERFECT!

Its a perfume that you would like or hate and be warned you need to be confident to wear this.
It isnt a sweet perfume as quite a few people describe .Albeit it opens with a cotton candy note and You could also smell berries and a negligable hint of rose ensconed in chocolate and vanilla.
It is strong ,lasting and would be wise to be used in small measures as some people report headaches.
Personally i love ANGEL!!

In the interest of full disclosure I should admit that gourmand is not my thing. It was no surprise, then, that I found the initial spritz to be a blast of sweetness. My beloved leaned in for a kiss and then backed off, voicing his preference for "more Catherine Deneuve, less Willy Wonka."
I kept right on humming it: "Sorry, Angel, sorry so."
But far be it from me to wash off a fragrance before experiencing the drydown. Will there ever, ever be a drydown? This stuff is intense, and my indoor sillage frightens me.
I will say in Angel's defense, that it is lasting and layered. But the patchouli just can't stand up to that sweet, foody dominatrix. In the drydown the musky notes turn sour on me and the candy just keeps on giving. I'm left with a not-so-fresh, someone-left-the-cake-out-in-the-rain feeling.
I am thankful for the Gainsbourg ear worm, though!
"Sorry angel ..Sorry so...Maintenant tu es avec les anges...Pour toujours..."
Sorry, Angel...sorry so !!!!!!!!

To sweet for my liking. It's a strong scent.
I do not like it on myself.

V & R

I've been using it for couple of years and still putting it with precaution, and only in very special occasions...a real jewel!!

But I still love Angel!

I'm not looking for happy floral notes, but I cannot live without a good base, and here the supposed "patchouli" base is dead. I think that there must be a preponderance of synthetic molecules in this scent. It has a skinny, acidic smell on me, even when applied on the inner arm. I get some of the gourmad notes in the top, none of the middle florals that are supposedly there, and a weird, high-pitched drydown.
On the plus side for admirers, this juice lasts forever.
ps I recently asked a flight attendant what lovely scent she was wearing-you got it, Angel. It smelled quite different from how I perceive it on me. To note: it was overapplied, probably in an attempt to squelch the airplane stench.

I think, this is exactly, what is called "an art of perfumery" - different aromas just bring you to a certain associations, stimulating our olfactory-memory and imagination, and the rest of "smelling" is done by our brain, uncontrolled.

Anyway, I do really like Angel and don't know why so many people on perfume review sites like this one seem to be embarassed to say so? It's a great scent!
It is VERY strong and little dab will do ya, but to my nose, it's in no way too sweet; it's pure power! The patchouli and earthiness of this scent along with the wonderfully smokey powdery warm ambery dry down make it a fantastic scent. I would never describe this as sweet, let alone too sweet. Undoubtedly those elements are there, but in no way are they the defining elements of this fragrance.
Long Live Angel! :-)

Its me,my memories,my life,my love!!!!
siply perfect!
its sexy... my boyfriend love it and so do i. i love this when its cold and windy.i will recommend this to everyone but not boys or men, theirs is Acqua Di Gio.

The only Angel I like is Pivoine Angel. Why? Because it doesn't smell like Angel.

a little goes a long way with angel. it's very strong. u can evern smell it the next day on your skin, after u had your shower. it's great

I forgot to mention, i used to think this one was ordinary, but i think there was something wrong with the tester so that was the reason for it. Thank god its the opposite :D
at the past it was my no.1 no i remove it from my list
My favourite winter fragrance.I always get kompliments when I'm wearing Angel...

Angel is like a powdery heavenly sweet coconut-chocolate-vanilla cloud, which can take you to heaven if applied moderately. But if you overdo, it may turn into a severe headache explosive for you and for the people around you. Angel is a dangerous piece of art. Dare to try!
I can see what the perfume is trying to achieve, but it is over the top like Natalia78 said. A sensual disaster.
I couldn't wear it so i gave it to my friend.... but she's not wearing it either.

The next day I couldn;t believe what I'd done.. bought a bottle of sticky sugar fairy floss... sweeeeeet yuck I hate sweet perfume! But this one just hit a right note somehow. Tried it out at work and it was fine. But am embarrassed to like it. It's so flatly sweet and sticks to clothes for days. Must be totally chemical. I think it should be one of the cheap ones at the chemist so it might be worth having for a fun squirt sometime. But I have no idea where the tobacco/patchouli notes are supposed to be.... I smell nothing faintly like that. our noses are so different!
What I DO like to do with Angel is layer it with Geurlain Vetiver. Now there's a thought! The Guerlain is light enough to send little live sparks through the etheric syrup of Angel. The whole thing deepens and gets really interesting. Seems to produce a sort of heat in ther interaction, and phantom notes that couldn't really be there.. a peppery fennel...

To me the tobacco/patchouli smell overrules anything else, I don't like it at all! I gave it away to someone who does like it.

Today my friend asked me to try it just this one last time, (she´s a fan of angel)so I did, so she would be happy.. and guess what? a miracle happened!
-it wasnt at all bad anymore, I guess it does matter where and when you spray it, since this time I sprayed it to a different place than last time.. and it was pretty lovely, the chocolate wasnt that overwhelming, and the caramel was just great.

I agree with sophywt.
Calm and green, yet very sweet, sharp and chocolaty.
When I first time sprayed it to my arm I absolutely hated it. I could only smell that hidious dark chocolate.
After one hour, I thought that the chocolate smell had calmed down and the fragrance was wearable, and I didnt hate it that much any more. Still, I wouldn´t never buy it.
I also got this weird feeling that this scent doesnt fit to a wearer without something blue clothing or accesories?
That isn´t because of the bottlecolour, it´s the calmness.
I think this is the kind of scent that doesnt suit for everyone, including me.

It's like the smell you'll get when you open your fridge after a-year-long-vacation's away: the odor of various cake and dessert mixes together that just makes you sick.
I got a lesson from Angel: one spray is perfect, two, you get nausea.

It's intruiging.
It's daring.
It's very strong at first, quite a sweet & savoury scent. Like other heady fragrances these first notes may be enough to scare someone away from Angel forever, especially if too much is sprayed.
After about half an hour the notes warms up. I can smell the hints of chocolate/caramel/honey & the sweetness of these scents is countered perfectly by the patchouli. Who would have thought this combination would have worked?
Personally, I don't wear it everyday - I feel if I did I would get sick of it, so for me Angel is a once in a while scent.
The bottle is simply gorgeous. I wish there was a stand for it as even the smallest one takes up a bit of room in my cupboard but that's just a tiny insignificant "complaint". The 100ml bottle is not a star - obviously it would be much too big if it was!
I bought a small 10ml refillable star as a quarter spray drizzle per use is enough for me. It will last me a long time.
Another good thing about the Angel bottle is that the nozzle is perfect to create a tiny drizzle if you choose. Some perfumes make you do a full spray or nothing - no comprimise.
I do recommend Angel, but go to your local perfume counter & spray it on your skin, try not to smell for an hour & then smell it. Then you can decide if Angel is for you from the true scent of this perfume.
