this is my favourite perfume. on me it's not sweet at all, only sexy, warm....smoke , dark chocolate and bare skin

This is my second review for this. I was desperate to give this another chance after discovering that I absolute adore Alien and like Wish, but this still remains a big no-no.

And now that I've actually taken a look at the notes, I know what it is that bothers me so much. It's the chocolate and caramel! I feel so stupid for not figuring it out much, much earlier. I might be in a definite minority here, but I hate chocolate and don't even eat it. I hate all things overly sweet.

This is a sweet gourmand scent, and if it wasn't for the chocolate and caramel, I do think that I would like it, but that would be taking away from what Angel is.

The name is apt, I can't disagree with that. It does feel like a ascent into sugary heaven and sitting on marshmallow clouds. Unfortunately, I just don't have that much of a sweet tooth.

My sister smells divine with it and I'm sure that I do too, but I can't get over that chocolate note. But I wouldn't mind owning it just for the bottle alone. It's stunning and original.

Edit : Just as I wanted to scrub it off with a vengeance from hell, I took another sniff just to make sure, and realized that it morphed into a wonderful combination of vanilla and amber. The chocolate is still there, but the above stops me from paying attention to it any longer.

Still on the fence on this one because of the very awkward opening, but I gladly take my words back. It's nice, complex and surprising.

My relationsip with Angel has changed like the one of Elizabeth Bennet and Mr Darcy. At first I depsised this scent (as you can see in my previous review on this page). But I tried it on again and once you get past the slightly akward opening, you find gourmand heaven. It's so sweet but somehow it's extremely complex¨.This is definatley not a scent for an ordinary woman. This perfume reminds me of Joan Crawford and Katherine Hepburn. Controversial, sexy and you either love them or hate them. But whatever you feel about this scent it sure is extraordinary.

I haven't used Angel for a while, maybe it's time to revisit an old friend.
Other reviewers have mentioned that Angel smells differently on different people. As lolipopsneeze said, for such a popular perfume, you rarely encounter it on others.
I think that's what i love about Mugler's perfumes... for some reason they react differently depending on your body chemistry.
On me, Angel loses the fruity, lolly scents quickly, and only the more earthy, floral notes remain. And that's great.
on a colleague it smells like cookies and cream ice cream with strawberry sauce.
On me it smells like a temperate rainforest... earthy, with a touch of spring.
It's a surprising, magical perfume.
Try it a couple of times before buying, and use sparingly.

Okay So I'm like 16 yrs or so late on the Angel bandwagon but hey at least Im here now smelling like Angel...I'm for sure in the 'love it' group...This fragrance is very weird to me but that's why I've grown to love it and I'm so glad I finally gave it a chance.I think it's in my top favorites as of today.

I'm with asilverfire in that I've never encountered another person wearing this either...which is odd considering it's massive popularity. Maybe a lot of people think it's too strong so they never spray much...Oh I cringe at the person who douses themselves in this.

So I'm also with everyone who says that it smells different from person to person. TRUE

On me I get loads of patchouli on first spray but I like it and I think it's sexy because it's a sweet and spicy patchouli. then about 20 minutes or so later I smell like spicy hot chocolate and vanilla maybe a little caramel but not much.I like how the patchouli plays peak a boo with my nose! I've noticed on my skin the foody notes appear rather quickly but it takes hours for them to show up on my clothes if ever. Yeah this one is a fragrance masterpiece no doubt.

Thierry Mugler's fragrances are clearly not for everyone! You either love or hate them!
As a die hard "Alien-Girl" (still waiting for my "Orange Alien" to arrive….:-)) I used to run from all the "Angel" fragrances like the devil from the holy water! All these years no wild horses could make me try even a little bit – no way! What made me flee in horror were all these women abusing "Angel" in the worst possible way – overdosing it instead of using it in moderation!

Anyhow, again, a friend of mine who owns a bottle made me finally try it.

The first encounter of "Angel" almost made me sick a little and I nearly regretted for letting my friend talk me in to it! When I thought I can not take it any longer, something magical happened – "Angel" bloomed and took me on a heavenly ride in candy-caramel, vanilla-chocolate heaven!

The citrus and fruits is saving the fragrance from being to overly sweet and girly. Instead it is playing a little "role play" - using male/female or rather "yin and yang" and therefore making "Angel" an utterly remarkable, one of a kind fragrance!

Wow, I did not expect something like this from a fragrance I would rather have crawled five miles backwards on my naked knees instead of letting this fragrance touch my skin!

What can I say…..this is truly a masterpiece! I now declare myself officially as a "Alien-Angel-Girl"! I think, I will order myself a small bottle pretty soon….. :-)

Angel by Thierry Mugler is the most complex perfume that I've ever bought, worn, and smelled. It's multi dimensional because there are so many layers to it. A little bit goes a long way with this perfume. So, there's no need to spray a lot. I also have the perfumed body lotion to this fragrance and it packs almost as big of a punch as the perfume. This concoction of melon, coconut, apricot, plum, musk, chocolate and caramel is highly potent. It's so powerful that some may find it quite offensive. I myself like heavy sweet scents, but this one is almost too much for me. It's a bit masculine and feminine at the same time and shouldn't be worn by those with weak stomaches. This fragrance is so complex, that it's nearly indescribable. It's intensity never seems to end. If you like exploring new fragrances, then perhaps you should give Angel a try. It's bold and mysterious and will easily stand out among a crowd. The opening is very, very intense and really strong. The drydown is way more enjoyable than the opening. This potent concoction should only be worn during the winter. It's ideal for the snowy weather.

I tried this one on today and at the first spritz I almost feelt sick. I don't know what it was but somehow it reminded me of the toilets in my last school. Mixed with some kind of old ladyish smell gagh! After a while it completley changed into a cloyingly sweet mess,I usually adore sweet scents but this one was a total overkill in sweetness.

I tried this a couple of months after a terrible experience with Alien and once again I was not impressed.

The trend with this designer is to create something "unique" but unfortunately in their process, they're also adding "offensive" to their fragrances.

I wanted to like something from the Thierry Mugler range because I'm a reseller but unfortunately I don't.

I have smelled (and wrenched) this on many females and I have the same reaction everytime. GROSS!

People are always in pursuit of that "WOW" factor and crave for something pleasantly unique so here's a tip if you're not already doing it. Mix other fragrances together and learn to blend. Create your own exotic mixes rather than relying on a design house to come up with something. It's not hard to do but admittedly it can be a little expensive and tiring.

Example: I use this combo regularly because it works perfectly (for me). I use Calvin Kleins Euphoria Shower Gel, Body Lotion and Deodorant as a base and then spray lightly around the neck, chest and wrists with Versaces Bright Crystal. Alone, these fragrances don't have lasting power but when mixed together, they're great and all importantly, different! I've been using this double for years and I get compliments galore and not many can pin point what it is. I never get, "unusual" or "what's that fragrance you're wearing"... More often than not it's, "You smell beautiful" :)

Just an idea.
05/20/09 11:18:53

In the ninenties it was very popular and special modern scent, but in my case i used this for only five months, more or less, and at the end i was tired of it because coincided that i had a relationship and when it finished i left use my parfum becouse it remebered me to him...
Things of the life...
So i continued using Carolina Herrera - Carolina Herrera

I'm going to have to agree. You either love it or hate it!

I currently HATE IT. Now, let me start by saying that I used to think it was quite nice. My mother-in-law wears a TON of this stuff. But when I got pregnant, it just became unbearably offensive to me. I couldn't stand being near her...and I still can't whenever she wears this fragrance. It's strong...unlike Alien, which my husband seems to prefer. The sweetness is "ok"...but there's just something about it that I don't like. And to be honest, I think it's in ALL of TM's perfumes bec. I can smell it in his Rose and Alien fragrances. Anything that smells remotely like Angel is horrendous to me. Sorry people. I guess they're right. Different strokes for different fokes. It's just not my cup of tea.
05/11/09 14:57:30
I have been a fool to love Alien. I was too obsessed with the Extraordinary Alien, I forgot to think about the Lovely Angel before buying it. It smelled different, and daring, and that's why I liked it too much.

But, one day in a perfume store, I wanted to try Angel, so I sprayed a tester once, and then.... I WENT TO THIERRY MUGLER HEAVEN!!
"The scent.. what makes it so perfect??"
That was my question all the way home.
"Wait! Why didn't I buy that today?"
Was my other question that left me guilty at home. So, the next week, which was a few days ago, I bought Angel (the first ever Oriental Gourmand fragrance).

When I sprayed it once again on my hand, all I can smell is Cotton Candy attached to my wrist. Then, an hour later I smelled Honey poured on my hand, and it all ended in a delecious caramel scent wrapped in musk and amber.

This is the best night fragrance I have ever had. Thank You Thierry Mugler!

I have to agree with a bunch of the other reviews when I say that it's the patchouli in this scent that makes it offensive. If I had to work near someone wearing this scent, I think I would have headaches or feel nauseous all the time.
05/05/09 16:08:12
I love Angel to the point of almost being obsessed with it, honestly! I have the perfume, lotion, dusting powder, purse size bottles... But... my boyfriend simply hates it. And yes, I've used minuscule amounts of it when I'm around him and he still noticed and complained...sigh!
He doesn't notice or say anything about any other perfume that I wear.
If anyone is familiar with Spark perfume, I wore that all the time when we were first together (it's very spicy too) and he never said a word.
It breaks my heart! If he wasn't such an awesome guy and treats me like a queen, I'd seriously consider breaking up with him... At least I can wear it on days I don't see him:)

When I sampled this at Kohls I yelled out so loud in the store I yelled out the "S" word because this scent came as a big surprise it was rancid and I do not like this scent!
05/04/09 07:24:03
This is my signature scent for 5 years now! The staying power is amazing!!!!! The problem is I have never found anything that comes close to this perfume, everything else I try just doesn't compare! I have been trying other ones but still always go back to angel!I will keep looking but I doubt I will find another perfect scent like this one!
05/02/09 05:03:36
Perfumers strive every year to achieve another "Angel". It's unique to this day and there is nothing like it. Others copy or try to come close by putting together a sweet/dessert patchouli perfume, but they fail every time. It's a legend already and was created in 1992. Everyone compares gourmands to Angel, because it was the first success. Daring, unusual, sexy, edible, and able to smell different on all people. It morphs into your own personal scent. It will stay Angel, but it will become your own. That is why so many women (and men) have chosen it as their signature. I never stay with one perfume for long, I have wanderlust for others.. but I come back again. It has it's charms exposed and I love it.
04/23/09 17:40:35
My mum´s favorite perfume. It´s delicate, femenine, sweet and original. I love it, and the bottle is really beautiful. One of the best fragrances I´ve ever tried
04/21/09 07:50:10
Although I wouldn't buy this for myself, I think it is a very interesting fragrance. I smelt this one on different people and everytime it smells different on a person. My friend a beautifull half indonesian girl has this one and on her it is really like an angel.
04/17/09 02:21:02
Angel is definitely the best fragrance from the second part of the XX century.

Innovative? Yes; but the best thing about Angel is that it smells different from woman to woman. You can tell it's Angel, but in another nuance. It's very potent so a slight spritz that's all you need (extra points for being a money saver).

Angel is not for the faint of heart, it needs personality to wear it. The chocolate/patchouly combo is so sexy that sreams I AM A WOMAN.
04/13/09 18:58:31
My husband is in love with this one.I think that ''angel'' i great for winter and for special occasions .But you have to be careful not use to much. One spray is enough. It is a special perfume with a character.
04/11/09 09:21:26
i finally got to see what all the hype was about. I hear so many negative comments about it, yet i don't find anything particularly wrong with the scent. spicy indeed, like someone emptied out an entire spice cabinet into this stuff...definitely not for the shy. As long as it's applied sparingly, it can be an enjoyable fragrance for both the wearer and those around them. Since i already have Lolita Lempicka, i don't feel the need to purchase this, as they are similar.
04/10/09 20:14:19

Love it or hate it is right, and sorry but I am a hater! This is awful, even with my love for chocolate all of the scents come at you at once, and while it has this soft smokey feeling it drowns me in the stench of too many mixing scents. I can easily suffer from migraines if a scent is too much, and this would be next to the world excessive in the dictionary. The notes are excessive and ridiculously wrong on me. I would say spray this on tester paper first and then if you like it try it on. This is definitely no angel, unless it's the angel of death.
04/07/09 12:53:08
Angel is popular indeed! So many reviews on it...wow.

Well, the fragrance deserves its popularity.

It is remarkable.
It is very very memorable.
The staying power is unbelievable.

If you have never tried it - you have to! At least to find out on which side you are - lovers or haters:)
04/07/09 12:02:20
Angel is my signature perfume and I am a male. Angel is like a good whiskey. It is an acquired taste. Some people will never understand it.

Angel's true beauty is in the base note. WARNING : This fragrance is bold, beautiful and powerful.

I only wear Angel when I go out clubbing. It makes me feel like I can do anything.

I hope Angel can transform your life too.
03/24/09 03:01:44
smells like musty men's cologne, cigarette smoke, and pepto bismol all mixed into one. i do not and will never understand the appeal in this.
03/22/09 21:16:17
i dont understand ,those people who dont like this unique perfume , its delicious ,fresh , lovely at all, i love it from first smell, love and again love, totally different and interesting. my favorite, the best, i love all perfumes of Thierry MUGLER
03/21/09 07:34:59
I'm with you Tessture! I run in the opposite direction when I smell this on someone.
I even tried it on my 5 year old daughter, just to make sure it wasn't just my skin. Smelled awful on her too. She said "Mommy, get if off!" LOL.

My brother has some very unkind words about it which I cannot post here!
03/20/09 11:56:25
It looks like I'm not the only one who has this turn into heavy patchouli and body odor on her skin. The sweet foody onset is nice, but it dries down horribly on me. And yes, PLEASE use only a little everyone: It's intriguing and mysterious in tiny doses. In large doses it clogs my sinuses, gives me a headache and makes me slightly queasy. I'm not alone, either, sorry.
03/13/09 17:29:36

I absolutely agree with MineralDiva here. I have noticed this too.
03/13/09 16:32:28
Though I too, hated it upon first spritz, I gave it another try and Angel has been my signature scent since it's introduction. It is the only fragrance I've ever worn, where people (especially men) actually comment and compliment. And those compliments have lasted through all the years I've worn it exclusively! Unfortunately, the scent has recently been reformulated. Although they "say" it's the same, I can definitely tell a difference - not as much in the actual fragrance, but especially in the body products. They smell synthetic. Has anyone else noticed a difference in the scent? I've refilled my star, but passed on my beloved body cream and shower gel for this reason and I'm sad to say that I'm now "nosing around" for another fragrance to replace it as my signature. I've also noticed that my most recent refill's staying power is definitely lessened, compared to the original formula. Truly unfortunate. This isn't a fragrance that should be re-applied during the day. Once in the morning, especially layered, was magical. Why did they have to "fix" something that wasn't "broken?"

Great fragrance it was my first one :))
03/03/09 04:37:11
It smells like Hot Chocolate with Peppermint stix. I don't know why I'm picking up peppermint but I am. I'm shocked this didn't smell better on my skin, I figured I would be made for this one, guess not..
03/02/09 06:48:02
It smells like gingerbread without sugar. As I'm not for gourmand fragrances I don't like it and I can't understand its popularity.
02/27/09 10:47:29
I just can't believe this is such a big seller!! I'm so glad I only bought the mini of this! I like a very wide range of scents, and rarely dislike any. But, I HATE it! So I've tried this 3 different occasions and have to wash it off after a minute or 2. It smells just like body odor to me!! The top notes are fine, but the dry down, ugh! Must be the patchouli.

Angel has all the things I hate about a perfume: ultra-sweet, heavy, cheap smelling, vulgar, shout-out-loud etc...
And all the notes I try to avoid: melon, caramel, chocolate, coconut, cotton candy...
So guess what? In one word: enemy.
02/27/09 02:07:57
I think this would smell better on a man.It is a very unique fragrance for sure but not very nice.It has a nice side although(One that plays peekaboo with you)I do smell the chocolate & the patchouli & what seems to be Lilac but I know its not.
The Chocolate in this & Missoni(the perfume) are very alike & frankly I don't believe it smells very good in either of them.Interesting ...yes...Pleasurable...no. I don't know.I don't think I can totally write this off but I know I wont be rushing out to buy a bigger bottle any time soon either.
02/20/09 17:50:09
To me it smells like chocolate with a base note of burning rubber. I came by a bottle of it for free, couldn't wear it and none of my friends that I offered it to liked it either. I really don't like this trend towards scents that smell like food - chocolate, vanilla, caramel, tropical fruits etc. I basically don't like anything created after 1980, and no, I am not very old!

I am really looking forward to the 2009 Launch of ANGEL SUNESSENCE...i'm not too sure of the exact date though?
02/14/09 07:33:40
I wore ANGEL for years, despite constant headaches and nausea.

It goes on bitter, and then dries down to a sweet, chocolaty scent. I do love the contract between the top & base notes.
However, ANGEL is just too strong to wear. The notes of patchouli are especially overwhelming; it hits you straight in the face & hides the other notes for a good hour or so.

Being so strong you have to take into consideration your co-workers. It is a scent that causes migraines & sneezing so they might not thank you for wearing it!!

The bottle is stunning & the staying power is excellent.

There are just so many sense-friendly alternatives available nowadays, there’s simply no need for me to make myself ill over a perfume.
02/10/09 10:18:10

Disgusting.Simply disgusting. The bottle is absolutely beautiful and I would have bought it solely for the bottle. Also I heard pretty good reviews of it so I was really eager to get a whiff of it.But the smell...Oh gosh.It smells so...I can't really even find the right words for it.It smells like b.o and a bunch of other things put together.

However Angel seems to have gotten a lot of good reviews so maybe I'll go and sniff it again just to be sure.
02/08/09 14:00:53
I had to smell this again today. I found a .8 bottle with Angel lipgloss at Albertsons for 39.99 a Valentines special. I sprayed it again thinking I might not have smelled it right the other day since I already had on another perfume. Why do I only smell b.o. and patchouli?? I don't smell cotton candy or any of the fruits or even vanilla. I'll never understand the popularity with this one... I tried. lol
02/06/09 12:09:10
You simply can't go wrong with Angel. Being one of the most popular and well-known fragrances in the last 20 years, Angel still manages to stand out in a crowd.

This is a delicious and very unique scent, the first of its kind. It's sexy, dark, mysterious, sweet and memorable. Surprisingly quite controversial, it seems that you will either love or hate this fragrance. I personally adore it and love wearing it especially during Winter or on a night out on the town.

When I first apply Angel to my skin, I get a very distinctive mandarin note. This mandarin is fresh, juicy and raw, smells exactly like the actual fruit. Minutes later Angel begins to smell like gingerbread men and vanilla, I can even sense a chocolatey note, but perhaps more like a mug of hot chocolate rather than a block of solid chocolate.

I find it difficult to control my sweet tooth when I wear this fragrance. I feel compelled to walk straight into the nearest bakery and buy every sweet pastry I can afford.

Don't be fooled by the name, Angel is in no way innocent and heavenly. Demon would be a better suited name for this scent.

I suggest that everyone try this at least once in their life because like Chanel No.5, it is quickly becoming a well-known classic.
02/05/09 03:49:28
I really don't like patchouli in my foody fragrances, and it probably is that single note that spoils the rest of the chocolate-y,honey/vanilla sweetness. I also smell it everywhere (on campus, at clubs, at restaurants), which can be nauseating because the fragrance is strong and the people who love it seem to be quite liberal with application.
01/25/09 21:11:51
Too sweet! Too sweet! While I may not want to smell like a flowershop, I don't want to smell of barley-sugar either! I have no worries about making a statement with perfume, but this one just simplies that I am an eight year old!
A pity, because some of it's other notes are quite dry and also unusual, such as patchouli, and it's very complex, which is good. But chocolate? Can't say I have ever been able to detect cacao in it, just sugar...
01/15/09 12:30:26
This perfume.. I see why it has such a following! When I smell someone who is wearing it, my head turns. I want to see what she looks like! It really has a warm, yummy coffee and chocolate spice scent. Musky but clean. But it is soooo concentrated that people need to be very aware to GO EASY ON IT! I will now be buying a bottle soon. I used up my sample and now Im in love :) When I first spray it on it smells like strong honey mmm then it gets sweet and musky. This is the first perfume my guy has ever said smells good, its a keeper!
01/06/09 18:13:41
It is funny how this scent create such strong emotions - love or hate. But - love it or hate it - it is revolutionary, and it is a young classic. I can`t detect no,zip, nada flower notes in it, and I don`t think too many people can. It`s a gourmand scent, though I woild not say eatable - it can bite back!!!!! Angel is very powerful, and you won`t believe how it can change a personality! I owe Angel a lot, it made me believe in myself and look at myself at a different angle, and not too many perfumes can boast about it!
Also it is one of the sexiest perfumes ever made, it is a pure afrodisiac in a star shaped bottle. Unfortunately, some people know no boundaries and spray it without sparing. This is a huge mistake, because it really needs to blend in the skin scent to work it`s magic, and it`s possible only with little doses.
01/06/09 17:44:50

I smelled this perfume for the first time at Macys i was so attracted to the bottle and display! I anxiously walked over to it and sprayed it all around me-wow was it strong. :-o
I didn't like it at all.
Now as im reading all of the reviews, people are writing such good things about it. I might try it again and spray it ONCE on my wrist and give it another try.
01/06/09 16:25:46
Today I tested Angel.I applied very little on my pulse points.

At first it was too heavy, generic and cold. After a while, it started "melting" in my skin so beautifully. Honey with chocolate and almonds, vanilla and JUST the right amount of patchouli.

Creamy, sweet, yet a little bitter and breezy. Fantastic!

I'll test it again some more times to ensure that I love it!

Edit 1: My brother told me it smells heavenly, just when I thought it had faded.Whoa.

Edit 2 : Tested it again.Definetely in my wish list!
01/03/09 04:54:00

I'm sorry, but I think "Angel" is overrated. I fail to see how the scent is revolutionary. It smells pretty standard to me. the most disappointing part is the chocolate. When I heard that chocolate was one of the notes, I was really excited to try "Angel". The chocolate smells thin and chalky to me, not rich and full as I had hoped.

wonderfull unique perfume, one of the best i ve eve r smelled, fits my preferences perfectly.too bad it s too expensive and comes only in 50 ml .but i m sure that some day i will buy it coz it s a pitty not to wear it just once.i wonder why thierry mugler s perfumes are so expensive and they come only in few ml.

There is nothing I can say about Angel that hasn't already been said. Definitely an amazing perfume- a sure classic.

I wish i could rip off my nose... my friend who is sitting next to me is wearing it and she know that i find it FARR TOOO SWEET, far too common and FAR TOO LOUD! eugh.. for 14 year olds only!
12/19/08 13:53:51
I say this fragrance is so bizarre that everybody will eventually fall in love with it.
12/19/08 13:39:23
Well, this guy likes it and wears it. It's a classic. A VERY WEIRD CLASSIC. I totally get the sweetness; lucky the massive amounts of other notes balance it out or people would be dropping dead of sugar shock. I always dug Mugler's clothes, and the perfume is certainly consonant with his unconventional style. Five stars!!!
12/16/08 11:41:44
This is the one perfume I keep coming back to...in the past I have always found a new scent to wear, about once a year or so. Angel is the only one I've ever purchased twice. It's my go-to signature scent, the one that comforts me and makes me feel sexy and confident.

That being said, I won't get into HOW it smells, as there are so many reviews about that. I will, however, point out a few things I've noticed that make this scent even more unique.

Angel smells completely different on paper/clothing than on skin...if you don't like it on your skin due to the smoky camphor note you get the first few minutes, try it on your blouse instead.

Also, I know some will say not to rub your wrists after applying, but I always do with this particular scent...reason being, I find the smoky burnt candy notes go away rather quickly after this and the heart notes kick in faster. I'll admit that the heart & base notes are definitely the highlight of this fragrance, at least for me.

Lastly, this is the only scent I've ever worn that changes as my body temperature rises. The honey/melon/peach notes are at their peak when I am very warm. And despite its popularity, I've never encounted another human being wearing this, which really surprises me!

My second favorite perfume ever! I love Angel, but it's hard to find in my local stores. Luckily I can find it online! I feel sexy and feminine when I wear this, I love the chocolate, carmel and vanilla undertones. I seem to have a yen for the Oiental Vanillas, they seem to be all I ever buy.
12/15/08 07:39:11
This one can be so overpowering that it has made many enemies. On some, it's lovely. On me, there's a body odor note that comes out about ten minutes in that is dreadful and unavoidable. It's so different from most perfumes in structure that it's easy to see why it's so polarizing, but it can also be intrusive if worn too heavily. A little of this goes a long long long way.
12/14/08 17:13:13
Strong, mature, sweet comfortable (for me), smells like some velvet honey, time to time whiffs something fruity.

I hated it at first, but anyway sprayed it on paper richly, went home and found this Stella In Two paper. I couldn't stop sniffing it. Then I tried it on myself and got one at fall.

Really required to be used with caution - some would shout at you something about disliking this smell. I once oversprayed this fragrance, because haven't realized WHAT scent it is ( early morning ) and it was ok for me not for people around ;D My friends love/hate it.

I love the bottle, I got myself 50 ml refillable one and almost died of happiness when opened it. Sprayer is awesome for me (I like to spray a lot) if you spray fast it sprays only a little amount. I'm still surprised that I have used it kind of a long time, but it's only a little bit wasted.
That's cool, because it's kinda expensive.

I wear it every day and noticed that I kind of a bit fed up with it. But then I anyway use it. I can't keep it for occasions. With this fragrance I started to love strong fragrances.

Now, this fragrance is a real phoenix. Why, because it is addictive, once you're almost fed up (sometimes patchouli is really nasty), after few days it becomes sweet chocolaty fresh fruity (wonderful, perfectly balanced, warm, best...). I can't resist long without it. It has it's own character.
12/13/08 11:06:36
It’s been a week now since I got my Angel. There are no words to describe how good this scent is. However, I want to tell – be careful! Thirry Mugler’s perfumes are addictive. I usually change my perfume every day or two, but this one I’m using for a week and can’t get enough. Today, as I stayed at home, I caught myself sniffing a bottle. Last year I had the same “problem” with Alien.
12/13/08 02:36:25
Angel is an controversial perfume, of the type it loves or it hates. I felt it for the first time 6 years ago through a friend and I felt in love, at that time I didn't have conditions to acquire it. Currently would be possible but I don't feel the smell as before, in my skin it's smell like wooden wet, nothing angelical as I have in my memory. It's sweet, warm, pleasant and feminine, appropriate for colder days, becoming restricted in a country as mine, when most days are so hot. I will prove more times definitively…
12/11/08 08:55:05

I was not a fan of Angel for a long time. I just did not get it....but then one day I smelled it on someone in the store and really wanted to try it on. It's really strong and I would not wear it if you like lighter scents.

But now that it's winter.....PERFECT!
12/11/08 08:38:44
Angel is one of those perfumes that enjoys a distinct status. You could spot a person wearing angel in a crowd.
Its a perfume that you would like or hate and be warned you need to be confident to wear this.
It isnt a sweet perfume as quite a few people describe .Albeit it opens with a cotton candy note and You could also smell berries and a negligable hint of rose ensconed in chocolate and vanilla.
It is strong ,lasting and would be wise to be used in small measures as some people report headaches.
Personally i love ANGEL!!
12/10/08 19:50:37
Every time Angel is mentioned I find myself humming that Serge Gainsbourg tune: "Sorry Angel, Sorry so." I tested Angel briefly once before and did not like it, but decided it was worth experimenting with it for a full day, since it is such a popular fragrance. Despite its ubiquity, I have never to my knowledge smelled it on anyone else, and I remain curious about how I would react if I encountered Angel in a crowded space.

In the interest of full disclosure I should admit that gourmand is not my thing. It was no surprise, then, that I found the initial spritz to be a blast of sweetness. My beloved leaned in for a kiss and then backed off, voicing his preference for "more Catherine Deneuve, less Willy Wonka."

I kept right on humming it: "Sorry, Angel, sorry so."

But far be it from me to wash off a fragrance before experiencing the drydown. Will there ever, ever be a drydown? This stuff is intense, and my indoor sillage frightens me.

I will say in Angel's defense, that it is lasting and layered. But the patchouli just can't stand up to that sweet, foody dominatrix. In the drydown the musky notes turn sour on me and the candy just keeps on giving. I'm left with a not-so-fresh, someone-left-the-cake-out-in-the-rain feeling.

I am thankful for the Gainsbourg ear worm, though!

"Sorry angel ..Sorry so...Maintenant tu es avec les anges...Pour toujours..."

Sorry, Angel...sorry so !!!!!!!!
12/09/08 07:12:39
You must be an alien if you haven't for once in your lifetime wore this incredible scent. the first real gourmant made a real difference in the world of perfume, and had devoted admirers and fierce opponents. i do like it although i loved even more it;s beautifull ofspring lolita lempicka. On my skin this starts dry woody and spicy(and always make me a little sick the first spritz) and soon it becomes a nice melange of sweet musky powdery peach or other summer fruit (undeniably richer than everything we've smelled till the day angel came in our lives). For al ot of people this is the first chocolate scent ,but for me the drydown is sexy intense exotic vanilla with just a hint of cocoa bean. A bi too much but an exceptional composition of historical importance
12/09/08 05:25:03

is a good perfume very complete smells but so strong and overpowering, for matures woman
12/01/08 18:54:53
I know this is popular and I really wanted to love it but... migrane inducer!! If your sensative to strong perfume test this first. Very powdery.
11/29/08 18:58:39
This one starts off strong - almost like a liqueur. But it mellows out into a delightful raspberry - dark chocolate scent that is animalistic rather than gourmand. I think the musk and ambergris deepen what would otherwise be a dessert fragrance. Instead, it's dark and haunting.
11/29/08 16:04:07
Despite all the hype, this scent did absolutely nothing for me. Dissappeared within an hour or two. Glad I bought only a sample; was so unimpressed, I gave the tiny vial away!
11/28/08 23:27:49
Sweet!
To sweet for my liking. It's a strong scent.
I do not like it on myself.
11/25/08 06:57:32
11/23/08 18:51:51
It’s cold and snowy outside, so I decided to give this perfume one more try. First when I tested it at summer I thought it was too strong, but now I just fell in love with it. So now I know what I will get as my birthday present in December ;)
11/22/08 02:08:34

Some people was smelling pine in that perfume. I think it is the patchouli that gives this impression. I have smelled this perfume but never tried it on my skin. I will...
11/18/08 20:53:05
Oh how I love Angel. I've had more refills of this than any other perfume. It smells great, the mixture of chocolate and patchouli lasts for ages, and I just can't go wrong with it - unless I smother myself in it, which has been known to overpower those less enthused! It's not a summer perfume; if it's a day perfume at all, it works best on a cooler day. Its only real flaw is that everyone else loves it too, so now I need to find something else to stand out!
11/18/08 10:55:43
This is a strange one .Either you love it or hate it .One sniff, and you know some one is wearing Angel.I love this .The only other perfume close to this is Flower bomb by
V & R
11/10/08 19:02:26
Angel is definitely a love/hate fragrance. A cosmetic sales associate in a department store told me that I would not like this fragrance, but she turned out to be very wrong. I was very much drawn to Angel from the first time I sniffed it. The vanilla and chocolate in it make this scent so delicious, and the patchouli gives it some depth and isn't too strong on me. It might smell too strong on some though, and this is not a fragrance for everyone. If you like strong, heady fragrances, this is worth trying. I love wearing this fragrance when I crave a comforting, yet intoxicating scent. This is so sexy for a night out too.
11/10/08 07:26:42
one of my most beautiful olphactive experiences....when I was younger It made my stomach hurt when I was around my friend that had been using it for ages...but later on I was stumbling on it throughout the years and finally got it for my birthday one year...and it was love at first sight!!!warm, dangerous, spicy, powerfull, gentle, powdery, and very long lasting scent...
I've been using it for couple of years and still putting it with precaution, and only in very special occasions...a real jewel!!
11/10/08 06:51:10
I love Angel. It's the first perfume I ever got! For my 13th birthday, my mom promised me something really special... So we walked into the big department store in town, and smelled like about 20 different perfumes, before settling on Angel, because it really stood out from the rest, and was the one that both my mom and I liked the most. The thing I didn't say at the time was that it made me feel nauseous... I don't know why, it always has - particularly when I smell it in large doses. Today my mom is the one who usually wears it, because of this. Perhaps it's too sweet, or gourmand, or there's some ingredient that I can't stand? We will never know...

But I still love Angel!
11/10/08 02:45:33
Have to say that, despite repeated attempts over many years, I cannot come to enjoy this fragrance on any level. It is unbearably austere-there is no roundness, softness, or body. I can't find any vanilla, honey, or caramel that I recognize. Reminds me in leanness style of some Sancerres I have had.

I'm not looking for happy floral notes, but I cannot live without a good base, and here the supposed "patchouli" base is dead. I think that there must be a preponderance of synthetic molecules in this scent. It has a skinny, acidic smell on me, even when applied on the inner arm. I get some of the gourmad notes in the top, none of the middle florals that are supposedly there, and a weird, high-pitched drydown.

On the plus side for admirers, this juice lasts forever.

ps I recently asked a flight attendant what lovely scent she was wearing-you got it, Angel. It smelled quite different from how I perceive it on me. To note: it was overapplied, probably in an attempt to squelch the airplane stench.
11/09/08 23:54:04
Yes, pine is not indicated within components of Angel, but I also could SMELL pine and "Christmas" in Angel: orange, chocolate, vanilla... All aromas of most loved holiday.

I think, this is exactly, what is called "an art of perfumery" - different aromas just bring you to a certain associations, stimulating our olfactory-memory and imagination, and the rest of "smelling" is done by our brain, uncontrolled.

I love the scent but doe's anybody else smell pine in this. looking at the notes there is no pine listed. What I'm i smelling?

I can never get over the number of people who "hate" this fragrance nor the number of people who claim to smell it everywhere they go! Where do you all live? I have never encountered this fragrance on another person; how odd!

Anyway, I do really like Angel and don't know why so many people on perfume review sites like this one seem to be embarassed to say so? It's a great scent!

It is VERY strong and little dab will do ya, but to my nose, it's in no way too sweet; it's pure power! The patchouli and earthiness of this scent along with the wonderfully smokey powdery warm ambery dry down make it a fantastic scent. I would never describe this as sweet, let alone too sweet. Undoubtedly those elements are there, but in no way are they the defining elements of this fragrance.

Long Live Angel! :-)
10/30/08 15:42:33
i wish i could wear it. Way too sweet and strong for me , gives me a headache! this perfume leaves a classy trail
10/24/08 08:47:16

I m wearning Angel since 1998!!
Its me,my memories,my life,my love!!!!
siply perfect!
10/19/08 11:23:53

As Sandrina, I also associate Angel with some special moments. I love it and is the only perfume I've bought a second botle.
10/16/08 07:46:32

love it.. love it.. love it..

i've been wearing this for almost 2 weeks and i can't smell it on my skin more than 20minutes :( what's wrong?
10/15/08 11:28:37
like marmite,, this is either love it or hate it,,, most times the moment you try it you wish you never did,,, and half an hour later you are trying to remember wich is the special smell on your skin,,, amazing!!!!
10/13/08 10:15:11

I simply can't stand it. Too strong and sweet for me. It's a modern classic, I have to admit it, but I don't like it. It's a very popular fragance, because I smell it everyday in the street and it's a bestseller.
The only Angel I like is Pivoine Angel. Why? Because it doesn't smell like Angel.
10/09/08 03:36:44
I think this is the most disgusting fragrance I've ever sniffed. I had it and gave it to my mom and she let it sit there until the shiny top got all rusty. She never wore it and threw it away. I don't know how so many people love this fragrance. It's actually the first perfume that made my face look like I just passed by a yuky stinky sewer. I can just imagine someone wearing this in an enclosed place like mmm an elevator? eww that would be awful, I literally can imagine myself choking to death.
10/03/08 12:57:38

i really wanted to get to like this, because the smell is very different, but i couldnt, its just too strong and gives me headache every time i wear it
10/03/08 02:27:05

Angel is one of my favorite perfumes everrrrr.... reminds me of a cigar & chocolate.
10/03/08 00:43:29

it is to strong and makes me feel headache...i do notlike it,no way..
09/30/08 12:52:30

For me this perfume was "love at first smell", now I think it is too strong, but I wear it in the winter.
09/30/08 11:34:05
i absolutely luv it. it's my favourite perfume, hypnotic poison comes in second. i smeell honey at first and spices ... a very strong smell but i adore it, afterwards to the end of the day it mellows down to powdery vanilla comforting smell.

a little goes a long way with angel. it's very strong. u can evern smell it the next day on your skin, after u had your shower. it's great
09/30/08 11:01:50
This is the only perfume that has enough patchouli to satisfy me, also combined with my favourite addiction, chocolate and wrapped all together in such a lovely unique composition.. very long lasting - every dime pays off!
I forgot to mention, i used to think this one was ordinary, but i think there was something wrong with the tester so that was the reason for it. Thank god its the opposite :D

at first it's very sweet and sultry and kinda heavy...it often gives me headaches but when the first notes wither away it blends perfectly with your own skin making you feel comfortable and oriental..i like to use it but only for special occasions...it is very expensive:))
09/26/08 13:35:50

Angel is a strange perfume. I absolutely detest it on me; it's the first perfume that actually made me physically ill. But, on certain women, this can be incredibly seductive and magical - I'm just not one of those women! I enjoy catching brief whiffs of it on others, but could never stand it in close quarters or for long periods of time.
09/26/08 13:29:46

I READ about this perfume and LOVED it before I even took a whiff- then I hated it on everyone ELSE wearing it. lol. On me its good, although no one I know can stand it- "too sweet/overpowering". I love the chocolatey sweet smell, and cant even smell the patchouli which is fortunate cause I cant stand it. One of my faves
09/24/08 20:20:24

i know that all the girls around the world like it so i don't like to smell like all girls i like to be unique
at the past it was my no.1 no i remove it from my list
09/23/08 06:23:46

Love this perfume. I have been wearing it for about 10 years and always get complements!
09/22/08 15:42:03

my favourite perfume. very warm, sweet, intense, unique, leaving a beautiful sense on the skin and in the air. i have noticed that people either love or cannot stand this smell..also it smells very differently from person to person..that's good,it makes it even more special!! i lllove it but my boyfriend hates it :(....so i don't wear it anymore.
09/22/08 03:57:31

Sweet vanilla , a soft fragrance ( in small doses) , nice for cold days.
My favourite winter fragrance.I always get kompliments when I'm wearing Angel...
09/21/08 02:54:38

On me it's just too strong and sickly overpowering
09/17/08 04:15:01
A fragrance that doesn't leave you with no opinion - love it or hate it. It's a piece of art!
Angel is like a powdery heavenly sweet coconut-chocolate-vanilla cloud, which can take you to heaven if applied moderately. But if you overdo, it may turn into a severe headache explosive for you and for the people around you. Angel is a dangerous piece of art. Dare to try!

Me encanta este perfume, uno de mis favoritos! huele mucho a miel con un toque de chocolate negro-amargo y algo de azucar (algodon de azucar)
09/08/08 09:50:17

I Agree with "passion flower": The chocolate and tobacco and the horrid patchouli (hate patchouli) makes it extremely heavy - I feel seasick when my friend wears it. I can't tell her, but I can tell YOU! Spare us... It is not a bad smell in itself, but this perfume is a good argument for the cliche "too much of a good thing..." etc. Patchouli is not sexy-it is lame if you ask me...
I can see what the perfume is trying to achieve, but it is over the top like Natalia78 said. A sensual disaster.
09/05/08 13:49:44

This is a sensual disaster. If you want to get someone suffocated in a crowded train wear it!
08/27/08 06:49:46

It's a perfume that varies based on your mood - sometimes it's a nice spicy/sweet concoction and sometimes it's overly heavy and nasty. Basically a winter scent, I shudder to think of wearing it in the summer heat. Overall, a perfume that you can probably wear once a year and be satisfied with - it's not really an everyday fragrance.
08/22/08 17:52:40

In 1998 I was in Washington DC and was at the LeFant Hotel. The lady at the desk had it on and I loved it. I flew back home to Alabama and immediately located the perfume. I've worn it since. I would have to say it's one of the most beautiful fragrances ever. Men love it!!
08/20/08 08:56:07

It's horrile. It gives you a headache even if you spray it a little. It's too strong ans too sweet. The advertising and the bottle are great 'n all, but the perfume itself is awfull.
I couldn't wear it so i gave it to my friend.... but she's not wearing it either.
08/15/08 18:28:51
I tried this on when I was looking for something dark and strange.. and found myself surprised to be enjoying a sweet melon blast of strong, cool clarity. Angel. I bought a whole bottle of the stuff. It was great walking through the car fumey city with such a piercing sweet ray around me. It cost heaps.

The next day I couldn;t believe what I'd done.. bought a bottle of sticky sugar fairy floss... sweeeeeet yuck I hate sweet perfume! But this one just hit a right note somehow. Tried it out at work and it was fine. But am embarrassed to like it. It's so flatly sweet and sticks to clothes for days. Must be totally chemical. I think it should be one of the cheap ones at the chemist so it might be worth having for a fun squirt sometime. But I have no idea where the tobacco/patchouli notes are supposed to be.... I smell nothing faintly like that. our noses are so different!

What I DO like to do with Angel is layer it with Geurlain Vetiver. Now there's a thought! The Guerlain is light enough to send little live sparks through the etheric syrup of Angel. The whole thing deepens and gets really interesting. Seems to produce a sort of heat in ther interaction, and phantom notes that couldn't really be there.. a peppery fennel...
08/14/08 05:41:21
I think this perfume is horrible!
To me the tobacco/patchouli smell overrules anything else, I don't like it at all! I gave it away to someone who does like it.
08/04/08 10:14:47

i love it from d very 1st time i smeel it still my favorite parfume untill now, yup..juz spray it in d air few inch from ur body..juz once..not much..let ur warm skin made this hot temptation smell illuminates u..n d magic will happened.. :)
08/02/08 07:22:38
this perfume is soooooooo sweeet...but when u wear it with multiple spray or at noon or in a hot or closed room/car?(pleasee..)it's gonna be a disaster to somebody next close to u,coz TOO SWEET is TOO MUCH.
07/28/08 10:39:08

To me, this smells too much like tobacco! Maybe it's just too heavy for me. Everyone around me seems to like it though.
07/07/08 22:13:55

I have to say that I was wrong about this fragrance!
Today my friend asked me to try it just this one last time, (she´s a fan of angel)so I did, so she would be happy.. and guess what? a miracle happened!
-it wasnt at all bad anymore, I guess it does matter where and when you spray it, since this time I sprayed it to a different place than last time.. and it was pretty lovely, the chocolate wasnt that overwhelming, and the caramel was just great.
07/04/08 12:41:52

I think this is a sexy fragrance, i never get tired of smelling this.
07/02/08 17:39:08
"It's like the smell you'll get when you open your fridge after a-year-long-vacation's away: the odor of various cake and dessert mixes together that just makes you sick."

I agree with sophywt.
07/02/08 04:38:18

Very different smell!
Calm and green, yet very sweet, sharp and chocolaty.
When I first time sprayed it to my arm I absolutely hated it. I could only smell that hidious dark chocolate.
After one hour, I thought that the chocolate smell had calmed down and the fragrance was wearable, and I didnt hate it that much any more. Still, I wouldn´t never buy it.
I also got this weird feeling that this scent doesnt fit to a wearer without something blue clothing or accesories?
That isn´t because of the bottlecolour, it´s the calmness.
I think this is the kind of scent that doesnt suit for everyone, including me.
07/01/08 16:06:38
This one is too delicious, warm and sweet. And I just can't resist the temptation to put a little more on my wrist! Well, you might guess what happened next: Angel turns into Beast.

It's like the smell you'll get when you open your fridge after a-year-long-vacation's away: the odor of various cake and dessert mixes together that just makes you sick.

I got a lesson from Angel: one spray is perfect, two, you get nausea.
06/23/08 03:46:02

I get sick everytime i smell it. After Chanel No. 5, this is my most hated perfume.
03/30/08 04:21:52
Angel is a such a different fragrance that at first I wasn't sure if I liked it or not, but I do.

It's intruiging.
It's daring.

It's very strong at first, quite a sweet & savoury scent. Like other heady fragrances these first notes may be enough to scare someone away from Angel forever, especially if too much is sprayed.

After about half an hour the notes warms up. I can smell the hints of chocolate/caramel/honey & the sweetness of these scents is countered perfectly by the patchouli. Who would have thought this combination would have worked?

Personally, I don't wear it everyday - I feel if I did I would get sick of it, so for me Angel is a once in a while scent.

The bottle is simply gorgeous. I wish there was a stand for it as even the smallest one takes up a bit of room in my cupboard but that's just a tiny insignificant "complaint". The 100ml bottle is not a star - obviously it would be much too big if it was!

I bought a small 10ml refillable star as a quarter spray drizzle per use is enough for me. It will last me a long time.

Another good thing about the Angel bottle is that the nozzle is perfect to create a tiny drizzle if you choose. Some perfumes make you do a full spray or nothing - no comprimise.

I do recommend Angel, but go to your local perfume counter & spray it on your skin, try not to smell for an hour & then smell it. Then you can decide if Angel is for you from the true scent of this perfume.
03/29/08 18:37:23

It is one of the more unique fragrances I have ever smelled and I would purchase a small bottle... it isn't everyday wear.
11/02/07 19:45:56

This is so popular. I have never tried it, however, it's definitely something I'd like to experience. I've read that's it's original and wonderful.
10/21/07 05:36:39
I started to wear this perfume some years ago and I've never had so many compliments on any other perfume. It's so beautiful and sensual, it has many layers of lovely scents that seem to appear as time goes by while wearing it, all blended together so skillfully. This is one of my all time favorites, I love it!
