Angel Thierry Mugler for women

the problem for me with this perfume is that the patchouli took over WAY too strongly...

I've found that "Angel Taste of Fragrance" has the lovely deep chocolate notes that I wanted in original Angel, but without the intense patchouli bomb.

This is my second review of Angel. I have the body lotion and I adore it, but I wear it when it's really cold outside. My mom had the perfume and the lotion, layered them both and she said it gave her a headache. Gee, I wonder why! With this, DO NOT layer! Either do the perfume OR the lotion, but not both of them together. Needless to say, she gave me her Angel lotion, which I happily wear.

Now this is a strong, heady scent, even the lotion is too. I was feeling brave one day and wore it to work (work being in a hospital), and I got rave reviews from everybody. No one said it was strong and I had patients tell me "Oh my! You smell so good! What are you wearing?" Coworkers said the same thing. Oddly, no one said it was overwhelming which threw me off. And believe me, if you work in a hospital and wear something scented, people WILL tell you if what you have on is bothering them. I guess it just boils down to body chemistry. I have a friend that smelled Angel on me, and while she said I that I smelled lovely, she said "I wish it smelled that good on me; it smells like a turd on my skin!" LOL But those were her exact words. From reading the reviews since I last posted mine, Angel really is a love it or hate it scent, and what it smells like is according to your body chemistry.

My second review for Angel. I have been having a love - hate relationship with her for a couple of year's now.
When she is good ..she is very very good but when she is bad she is ...well... you know.

I love Angel when she is good. But the last couple years my body chemistry has changed, I guess. The Patchouli was taking over badly.
I just started layering Angel over Palmer's Skin Therapy Oil. Wow .... Angel smells like she used to on me now. Somehow this helps keep the excessive "Patchouli Bloom" from developing on me. If any one else is having issues with Patchouli being the
dominant note to the point of unpleasantness , you might give this a try. Its amazing.....

You either love or hate this perfume and I have had a love affair with it since it first came out in 1992!
This is the most gorgeous fragrance on the planet but it's not for the faint hearted and it doesn't suit everybody's chemistry so beware, on the wrong person it can smell horrible.
Angel is sweet and chocolately and warm and fruity and totally intoxicating. I always get complemented and asked what I am wearing when I wear this.
I wear Angel day and night but some would say that it is in fact a night time perfume because it is very heavy.
Angel makes a statement, it says 'I am an individual and classy woman who knows her own mind and doesn't give a damn what others think of me'. It says ' independent, dramatic, feminine, sexy, beautiful, gorgeous.... Get the picture?
I used to wear it to my workplace but my boss ( a woman of no taste at all ) asked me to stop wearing it as it was filling the air with its scent and she found it offensive!!! Needless to say, I left my job!

Angel is my first choice fragrance when it comes to cold days or a gloomy mood. it always cheers me up. melon, plum, chocolate, caramel together with patchouli combine to form a really unique scent, which i find oddly calming and comforting. while a lot of people can't stand Angel and my mom actually hates it, i just can't help falling for it. there must be something special that keeps growing on me. could be the bitter sweet smell i suppose. the minute i spray Angel on me, my brain starts to tell me that i shall be on cloud nine. well what more can you ask for from a perfume since it makes you happy?

oh yes Angel is indeed a sillage monster and it lasts forever. so please be careful not to overdo it.

This perfume is something special indeed. A friend of mine wears angel for men and everywhere he goes he puts people into a trance. The fact that he's handome doesn't hurt either....but, i digress. .....I went to the mall and smelled the angel for women and foolishly thought it was too strong...you see, thats the beauty of this perfume. It's strong and powerful and yet beautiful.....kinda like an angel. The secret to this like everyone says is to only use a spray. I spray my wrist and dab my neck all with the same spray. It smells amazing in the Cleveland cold evenings....I'm wearing it in the chilly 25 degree weather and its so amazing. I think its more of a special occassion type scent but that doesn't mean it has to be only that. It eould be pretty at any time. I imagine the hair mist would smell great and the lotion....but this is so pretty. Sexy. Sultry. People treat you like a woman when you wear this. It really mixes with my chemistry i guess. It looked like a few strangers went out of their way to talk to me today....hmmm.....maybe a coincidence but this made me feel earthereal.

Got a sample to bring home and try and couldn't wait, seeing as how this was one of the most popular and raved about perfumes. one spray on my wrist and, whoa... this stuff really is potent! at first i thought, well... this is different. pretty and sweet. a little too sweet actually. then, it started smelling really masculine and "granny-ish" (no offence to anyone)LOL! so, i asked my husband what he thought and, him being a very nice and respectful guy said "yeah, that smells good. very MATURE though". so, i'm glad i wasn't smelling the granny-ish part all in my head. it is different and does last long on your skin. but, it's not for me.

Its a sweet scent, but in a way totally different, I think almost every woman like it.
It is intriguing,reveals a magical and delicate woman in you. And I really think its so Paris, le ville des amants. < 3

I can understand why this is a "love or hate" sort of perfume. The name Angel would indicate a gentle fragrance, wafting on a gentle breeze. But the initial smell of Angel is very much in your face.

Also, patchouli, is a love or hate note in any fragrance. Here, I have to say, it is done particularly well. Patchouli can totally ruin something by overpowering everything else. Here, it gently mixes with the other sweet notes so it isn't harsh at all, but aromatic and alluring. This is a naughty Angel in my opinion.

For those of you who have smelt a perfume oil by Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab called Tavern of Hell, this is very similar. Which I find very amusing considering the two names of the different frangrances.

I am finding it hard to differentiate between the different notes, and I'm no expert anyway. But the impression of the whole is of a sultry seduction of the senses. Either love it or hate it, this fragrancee WILL be noticed. Personally, I love it, but I would not recommend a blind buy. Get a sample and test first! :) Enjoy! xxx

The topnotes of Angel are truly disgusting.
I so wish they could remove the awful patchouli from this scent, because it scares many people off, and they don`t wait for the drydown.

When the patchouli disappears you have an amazing perfume, nothing like in the beginning.

It`s vanilla, caramel, honey, cinnamon, chocolate and everything yummie. Even a bit mens aftershave actually, which sounds bad but is very cozy.

The sillage and longevity are to die for.

VERY sexy and heavy, not for the shy or the "housewife clean".

Angel has a love/hate relationship to some people && what I mean is some ppl. love it && some it ppl hate it...

To the Gourmand lovers you will absolutely be captivated by its rich warm aroma.
but to others the smell might be a little to overwhelming, b/c Angel is quite strong.

Angel is a classic its been around for 20 years so It's deff. a noticeable fragrance && It has excellent longevity && projection to, expect compliments. I work in a frag. store && ppl still ask about && I always recommend it to ppl who want a long lasting interesting smell that never tried it, If you never smelled it I'd say try it before you buy it if your interested, It is rather pricey do to popularity I'm sure but I'm a fan, Thierry Mugler did a great job, && I love A*men(it's brother) on those cold winter days.

BTW: there is a imitation by New Brand called Blue Sky that is pretty dang similar, I'd say give that a try also if money is an issue. :)

Bravo! A little goes a long way, one spray is all you need. Angel gets noticed, and you will get many compliments on it.

This is interesting. It leaves the nose wondering what combinations made this smell. I have a perfume called Sparkling Silver by Chaz International and I can't tell the difference.

LOVE the drydown of this perfume!!

I had this when it first came out. Now, fifteen years later, it is nothing special, it is everywhere! I hated it them, I hate it now. All I get is cotton candy and some sort of pine smell. One of those things that I look back at and think, "What was I thinking????"

I just read a review saying it smells similar to earth after it's been rained on. YES! I'm completely getting that, and when I simply think in my mind that it's an earthy scent it suddenly becomes so much more pleasant to me than when I was picking up "diaper" scent.

Still, I'm sad that I'm getting absolutely NOTHING sweet outta this one. Pure earthiness. Guess my chemistry just wasn't meant to be with this one.

I bought a sample of this based on the fragrance notes listed above... I love amber, caramel, and chocolate.. I'm a fan of musk, and the warm spicy/sweet/cacao description above just sounds DIVINE.

Unfortunately, on my skin, I smell NONE of the notes above. What I get is something like pine.. something very harsh and skunky, and something that almost reminds me of a used baby diaper. I'm not saying that to be rude, that is literally the smell that I'm getting off this from my chemistry. My stomach is churning right now from it...

I'll hold on to the sample and try again in a few months but right now I'm sadly feeling sick...

i had this in the past i did like it but my boyfriend hated it i think it was to overpowering with the chocolate, as for now iam over it ...

I must respectfully disagree with the negative reviews and everyone surely has their own opinions - but honestly this is really an awesome fragrance "IN MY OPINION" and I will say this too - I do believe it to be a fall/winter one as well as a mature one....But so NOT cat urine???? Just so you know too - I have received numerous rave reviews from men when I wear this - this is one of my Hubby's favs!

This is the only perfume I've ever smelled that I intensely hated. The smell makes me gag and it stays in your nostrils even after the person wearing it has left the room. Way too strong. Gives me a headache.

I have given this Angel zillion times to impress me ... and well it did in a very weird way. I LOVE ALIEN, I dont like womanity, and I have to say I dislike Angel. I can´t stand first 4 hours. After this suffering time I get something I can bear. But I still dont love. Very very patchouli - candish smell. Looong lasting power - for sure. it´s Mugler:) But It is very unique. I only know one smell that is similar - Flirtissimo. Cheap version of Angel. For Angel lovers who dont want to pay high prices and enjoy similar smell try it and prove me right. but I just stick to my Alien and maybe one day give zillion and one chance to impress me again ... no I won´t :D

This seems like a very bipolar perfume, and one that really depends on your chemistry and mood. I can't say that I hate it, but I don't love it and it would be unlikely for me to purchase again. Fortunately, I got 5ml sample off Amazon, which will probably last me ages at this rate. It is strong, so not for those who like a more subtle scent.

On me, I have yet to detect any of the chocolate, fruit and so forth, which I would have loved. Mostly, I just smell a lot of patchouli, followed by a little musk, amber and jasmine. I also get a cedar-like smell, which I find curious. There is a sweet scent, but it's quickly overshadowed by the muskier scents on me. My brain automatically thinks "patchouli" whenever I get a whiff of myself. I don't mind patchouli, but this is almost (almost!) a little much for me, probably due to so many girls in high school wearing it back in the '90s.

Partner says he really likes the smell on me, so I'll probably finish the sample bottle off and on, but would really have to be in the mood for it. It's definitely something to wear at night and during the wintertime.

Although this is a very expensive perfume, it's definitely worth every penny. I always receive compliments whenever I wear Angel. It's strong at first when you first spray it, but smells wonderful and the longevity is amazing. I can wear this one all day without having to constantly spray more.

I fail to understand this perfume's popularity. Maybe it's because I was like 15 when it came out and everyone was wearing it so I associate it with teenage girls. I definitely don't love artificial scents so maybe I'm biased but if you want a Thierry Mugler perfume which has good longevity but doesn't taste like a bunch of chemicals, I would definitely go for Alien. I would like it (don't know if I would buy it, probably would never be my signature scent) but it's less cloyingly sweet/powdery and more unique, complex and a touch more natural smelling. This says it's a vanilla scent although I really just get an artificial powder scent. If anyone knows of a sophisticated/complex vanilla scent, I would love to hear suggestions¡

this is a good fragrance i keep for perfuming my feet at wintertime

I adore this fragrance. It was my first perfume (hey, 13 year olds can have taste, too!) and I have owned it many times since then. A great standard to keep in a wardrobe.

it reminds me smell in path lab. simply disgasting. the worst.

This is an un escapable classic scent. It also smells like morgue to me or dead people in general, I can also tell when someone is wearing it and once something becomes so popular it also looses it's value. So it is a definite NO for me.

A couple of years ago, this is what I used to smell everywhere in France. My question is, why is this so popular? The smell is sickening. So sickening that I had to come to this website to see what it was made of as I could not determine anything except for the vanilla. (I usually like vanilla but this one is terrible.)

Awful! It is as if nothing natural was used to make it.

A coworker gave me a tiny sample bottle of this when if first came out. She said it smelled like pine trees and popcorn, and it does! However, it has been years since I smelled it, and I am interested to see how I like it now. It seemed almost too strong to wear on a regular basis, and I do remember the chocolate. A very, very unique scent.

I had a sample-tester some years ago, and when I tried it on my skin I was definitely disgusted.
Then some days ago I read of its mainly notes on this site, and I found the components very tempting, so I decided to give it a new chance.
Today I went to a perfume shop and I spritzed it on my left wrist.
It gave me some different impressions. As soon as I spritzed it I sniffed my wrist and I turned up my nose: I smelt only a sweetish and artificial scent which reminded me a strong air freshener, and I was surprised by the fact that the notes listed above (which are delicious to me if taken individually) can result so sickening if combined together.
But when I went out of the shop and got into my car I felt a very nice scent coming from me: it was the same perfume which I abhored before!
Now, after three or four hours, I find that the dry-down is more and more pleasant: it smells like a dense talcum powder made of expensive ingredients.
But I keep to feel a nasty synthetic component annoying me.
To sum up, Angel is not a perfume I would wear, because I prefer multifaceted fragrances which have a bit of mordant in their soul... I like oriental floral fragrances with piquant and warm spicy notes, and I can't find anyone of them in Angel. It is a warm fragrance, but too much sweetish and flat to my nose, and not very interesting to me.
I really don't understand all this fuss for so an ordinary smell.

UPDATE: This fragrance is very well matched to the smell of cigarette ... I'm not kidding! Cigarette smoke gives that little extra that Angel alone did not!

I have tried this parfume and well.. maybe the chemistry with my body was not ok. Ok, I do like sweet parfumes, but it was just not for me. For the first 2 hours the smell was just perfect, but latter that smell started to be like soap. I just didnt like that smell then the parfume dried down.

I just purchased a 1.7oz bottle of Angel for the first time this afternoon. Actually, it was the first time I'd sniffed Angel after reading much about it over the years (though I've heard more on Alien, to be honest). I had read reviews on here, and felt that I had reason to be skeptical. Too sweet, smells better on some people than others, to popular, etc. At first I agreed. I was leaning more toward Alien in my latest fragrance search. After some fruitless browsing (my suggestion: don't perfume shop with a companion whose tastes vary greatly from yours), I came back and sniffed my now completely dry Angel sample again. It was lovely and so different! I couldn't understand the reviews that "everyone" is wearing this. No one I know wears this. The people I know are more likely to go for celebrity fragrances than real works of scented art. It is quite sweet in a gourmand way, but not so much as Pink Sugar or some pure foodie mixes I have from the likes of Isle of Eden or Bath and Body Works. You won't smell like a cookie, precisely. There are some lovely initial notes of patchouli (a favorite of mine) that fade beautifully to let the caramel, vanilla, and chocolate scents take over. Again, it isn't complete foodie, it definitely suggests more of a sophisticated perfume. It is intriguing, and all day I've found a different side of it to love. I'm glad I took a second chance on Angel!

Update: the thought crossed my mind that Angel reminds me slightly of the very pleasant scent of a vanilla cigarillo or cigar. Warm and sweet!

The queen of Gourmands, Angel is one of my favorite fragrances but is the only favorite that I don't have a full bottle of. Angel is for the brave, and it takes acquired taste. But once you like it, you'll get hooked.
You see I live in the tropics where it is warm for most part of the year, and though I love Angel, it only smells good during cooler temperatures. Spicy, foody, chocolate, amber, patchouli, vanilla. Sugar and spice and everything nice. Wear it in warm weather, however, it becomes too much of a good thing.
Though popular and distinctive, Angel still has the amazing ability to adapt to the body chemistry of the person who wears it, still making the fragrance uniquely your own.

Will get a full bottle of this soon--I'm eyeing the Rising Star. Hey, if I'll get a bottle of my dream fragrance, might as well get the most indulgent one.

I can't understand how people can love it. For me it smells like too much sweet ,spoiled cake.

I loved this perfume until everyone else started wearing it.I work in a shop and the only person I used to smell it on was me.I got enquiries and compliments everyday from men and women.Now I smell it on other women at least three times a week,so now I'll have to find myself a new obscure sexy signature perfume.I love the depth and multi-tonal qualities of Thierry Muglar so I may start wearing the very unusual Womanity.

This perfume is probably the worst I've tried. I can usually tolerate strong scents but this one is way over the top. It's headache inducing and nauseating. The only good thing about it is longevity. But for something that smells so terrible, I wish it didn't last even 5minutes on my skin.

After reading so many good reviews abt angel, i tried it again on myself after unusing it for almost one year. Unfortunately i still couldnt tolerate with its smell, itssss soooooo annoying. I feel like smelling a rotten fish coming out of freezer. Anyhow our liking is subjective, however i humbly wish tht i would never ever smell it from anyone else since i cant even smell it from myself.

I hate, hate, HATE this fragance. To me it just smells like sugary poison to kill rats >_

i wish to revise my earlier review on this one.it was a 7 out of 10 for the 1st few hours after having it on all day i noticed this haunting scent of vanilla incense and toasted marshmallows bathed in rich amber and sweet red musk.simply wonderful!!!so on further review it is an 8 out of ten by hour 7,so addictive and ever-changing.lovely <3

i just got this today.it smells like a unisex scent to me.i get all of the sweet coco notes and a strong amber.i think it is very nice.i am not too disappointed as i thought i might be seeing that it has been built up significantly.it is very nice ,but i still prefer blue sugar by aquolina.i give it a soft 7.you may think this a low score but i expect that a 10 will thrust me into a memory that will entrance all of my senses entirely.there is a scent called Egyptian musk by sacred spirits it is an oil roll on,it carries me away to when i was 16 years old walking around Salem Massachusetts exploring and getting into mischief.i know the power a scent can have and hold all others up to this standard.

This perfume is AMAZING in that it is so complicated. But being a masterpiece of obscurity does not mean it's a wonderful perfume to wear. I neither hate or like angel...it floats somewhere in limbo land for me. Because it is so expensive, I would probably never buy this bizarre fragrance on my own. If I got it as a gift I honestly don't know if I would keep it or trade it. It's just confusing!

On me I get a really strong Cassia spice top note that combines with the sweetness of the rest of the fragrance. The result is candied mexican food 0___o. This is the most distinguishable stage for me that lasts the longest, but then again it is angel so it morphs into a million other things while its on my skin.

I am so surprised by the dislikes. Since I started wearing it in 1993, and began working in bookstores, I have had men and women track me down to find out what that scent is. My exhusband and a coworker were the only two people who ever noticed the cotton candy. Everyone else thought I smelled like chocolate and vanilla and wanted to eat some " Angel" up, or just stand by me and inhale !
I was persuaded to try a different frangrance, " Shiny " while I was in Key West. It does not have any entrancing properties. As soon as I get another decanter of Angel, I'm giving Shiny away

I really wanted to like this, as I normally like orientals, but on me Angel has this really nasty chemical top note at first, like a combo of bug spray and chlorine.
It takes a couple of hours to fade, and I just can't stand wearing it that long waiting for it to go away.
Angel Violette is better on me, the violet top note masks the chemical thing fairly well.

I've never been fond of that scent but I had to try it on me before making any comment.

First, Angel smells like hot melting plastic, or something with a heavy petroleum base (coconut oil and vaseline? lol) and after a couple of minutes, it turns into a soft fruity sour cream. It's not sweet at all as many says (not on my skin).

I'm not without knowing that our skin chemistry also depends on what we usually eat. Well, I'm not a big dessert fan : I only eat fruits, yogurts, and sometimes dark chocolate or honey. Maybe that's why a perfume such as Viktor & Rolf's Flowerbomb is not too sweet and smells great on me, like soft creamy chocolate with pleasant tea notes.

Well, for Angel, can't say I haven't try... The more I smell it, the more I hate it (almost got sick and had to wash everything that has been in contact with the scent). I think the name "Demon" would be more suitable for this fragrance. : )

WHERE have I been since this came out? OH MY GOD. (the commercials are stupid by the way)

I kept seeing references to Angel in other perfume comments. Finally, looked it up and thought... weird. But then later I got a sample of Guerlain's Elixir Charnel Gourmand Coquin and fell IN LOVE. But my god, the price!

So, after more wandering around and feeling sad about the Guerlain's Coquin, I finally stumbled back to this section. I ordered a sample from The Perfumed Court and (queue the angelic chorus)... it was love! This totally satisfies my Guerlain longing, and with such a wonderful patchouli twist!

I love patchouli. A dear friend of mine makes a lovely patchouli shea butter that I use for my hands occasionally and I'm sure I smell just over the top hippie. :D (latherandlace.com... its called "Tack Room" if you are an interested patchouli fanatic like I am).

Anyways, Angel pulls me in with the chocolate, and keeps me close with the patchouli. The lovely patchouli is not overdone, or strong. It is just "there". And it anchors all the other lovely notes in Angel that come and go and swirl and twirl. Maybe there is plum and peach and jasmine and coconut, but I can't pull those singular notes out... yet, sometimes I do recognize them. Its always fleeting, yet part of the whole experience.

This stuff is looooong lasting and addicting and I'm sure they've put crack in it, cuz now, after all I've said in other comments about "spicy oriental this" and "dry, hot, oriental that"... Angel has entered my life and I'm quite sure she's here to stay. QUITE sure.

Oh, and Shalimar this is NOT. I can't stand Shalimar. puke. No! Angel is heavenly. Try before you buy, obviously, cuz there are some haters out there, and rightfully so... everyone is different. But the hype is not manufactured.

I want to wear this everyday. But I just got my Kenzo Jungle L'Elephant and I must say it also pulls me.....

I always avoided to even test Angel as I was sure it would be way too sweet for me. I was also sure that Mugler fragrances wasn't my thing since i tested Alien a while ago and found it nice, but nothing to justify all the fuss.
Well, I tested Angel and it was so interesting that I had to buy it. Of course the box was in the plastic foil. When I came home 8 hours later, I could smell it out through the foil at a distance of 1½ metres!
Wow, heavy stuff, I thought. Will it even be possible to apply little enough of this bomb?
Today is big testing day. The opening I already knew from the store and didn't find it all that sweet. I'm now 3 hours into it, and yes, it is definitely sweet. What surprises me is the kind of sweetness that is different from wht I tried before. To me it's kind of a non-sweet sweetness (doesn't make sense, does it). What I'm trying to say is that it's not the edible kind of sweetness, just soft and tender - but not from the faint of heart. I have other sweet perfumes that tend to become a little cloying to me, especially as drydown develops. Not this one.
It's not as much of a knock-out bomb as I expected from the reviews. I'm sure a little goes a long way though (I applied as little as I could).
I was convinced that I wouldn't like it. What a mistake!
But it is a 'love it or hate it', I agree on that. And definitely not for occasions where you wish to fall into the wallpaper.

Almost twenty years since Angel made its dramatic entrance and it is still talked about - love it or hate it, it's a legend.
Sweet, earthy, fruity, dirty, chocolatey, leafy, girly, masculine, fun, mischievous, all of these but never discreet!
One quick spritz and everyone within a ten foot circle is going to notice you so go gently!

I don't know why people complain so much about it- you only need a tiny spritz to smell sweet and comforting- not to mention the phenomenal lasting power. It's definitely a good quality perfume. I rarely use it though because I get bored quickly with this one- but that's the case with every scent that has a strong character and lasts all day.

Starts off with strong patchouli and chocolate, a wet tobacco smell. Then the honey starts to kick in as it slowly warms. At this point it smells like patchouli, chocolate (the earthy, wet kind of smell, not the edible) and honey with some jasmine and gardenia adding a floral sweetness. A touch of vanilla adds just that edge of sweetness.

I dislike patchouli and chocolate in any scent as they just smell like wet tobacco to me. I prefer more vanilla to my fragrances. This is a beautiful composition, but not for me.

firstly it smells spicy on my skin, few minutes later it smells more sweet,and one day later it smells earth after rain.awesome!

This is a parfum that needs patient. 3 minutes first it has a very heavy bitter chocolate! I thought this is could be a mistake to collect, however I love the bottle...unique. An expensive blind buy that even my favorite shop'seller never recommended.
I sniff again while thinking who's gonna be I offer to, slowly it becames milk chocolate fully..!!! Good sillage and lasting power scent. That's correct! They are (the Ladies here) correct..!! I see that' why Angel has great fans here.. Now I am ONE of THEM :D

Very heavy,very sweet,absolutely overwhelming....these are usually traits I hate in perfumes but somehow I still love Angel. However this is one of the perfumes that doesn't suit every woman. Not a scent for shy or demure women.

When Angel first came out, one of my best friends bought it and on her it smells gorgeous. Chocolate, vanilla, yumminess.
Unfortunately on me it instantly smells like men's aftershave, and not a good one at that.
I have tried it occasionally over the years and sadly it has never suited me. That's ok though as there are plenty of other perfumes I love and suit, and smelling it always makes me think of my best friend who smells edible in it.

Absolutely horrid! Sweet almost sickly fragrance, very similiar if I might say to Victor & Rolf Flowerbomb and also La Perla Charme, maybe ok for 14-20 something girls but not for a mature woman.

I have this, though the bottle looks like a smaller version of Angel Seducing Star (it's not - it's from 2009...)

Perfume has been something I haven't cared much for - I've used a body spray from Chanel that I liked the smell of and not really thought much more of it. Then I got this beautiful Flapper dress from my boyfriend with all the stuff that goes along with it. Suddenly, I felt an urge to find out what perfume fitted with the style, and I started smelling the ones I own. Don't get me wrong, this review is not about how Angel fits with the dress... it doesn't.

In stead, Angel was kind of a surprise to me. Because of good friends I've been the owner of Angel, Alien, Lolita Lempicka and a few other less complex scents without appreciating them much at all. I tend to use Alien for parties cause I'm a sci fi geek and I love the bottle, but that's about it. Angel I smelled once and never cared much for it.

Today I decided to try it on. The smell was overwelming and just plain weird for a few seconds, but once that passed I decided it was OK.

It wasn't until I smelled it on my skin half an hour later that it really spoke to me. Sure there are notes of cocoa and caramel, something foresty and a spice I can't put my finger on, but somehow, in it's soft, not at all sweet complexity, it smells like winter, in a warm home, wrapped in woolen blankets and scarves with a cup of cocoa, some spicy cookies and a magazine in front of the fireplace.

It smells like human scent, not like perfume. Real and alive rather than synthetic seduction-juice.

I should like this as I like sweet scents.But.I.Hate.It. The bottle is so beautiful like most of Thierry Muglers bottles, but like all of TM perfumes I cant stand this one (read Alien and Womanity amongst others.) Smashing bottles awful perfumes. Angel is complex dont get me wrong, surely well made and carefully put together, there´s a reason it´s one of the most worn perfumes today. I just cannot stand it, I have tried ( I got it as a gift once) but it sat unused on the shelf for ages. Then I sold it on ebay.

A girl was wearing this today and I swore to god she was wearing Shalimar Initial. I am crazy! It smells okay though - can be obnoxious

I smelt a perfume on my colleague, when she past by me, and asked her what perfume it was. She said it was angel. I bought it very next day, and I just LOVE IT.

When I tried this, I was expecting something shocking. From what I'd heard about Angel, I thought I'd either love it or hate it. I was actually nervous about spraying it on my wrist because it might turn into a total stinkfest. What surprised me the most was that I wasn't surprised at all. It seemed just like a perfectly nice fruitchouli with plenty of chocalate and candy; something so prevalent you can't avoid smelling on ever other teen and twentysomething that walks by. After a few minutes I forgot I was even wearing it.
Maybe my nose was stuffed up or something. I'll have to try Angel again sometime to see it that's the case.

I'd have to say that this perfume can change drastically once sprayed on the skin, depending on your chemistry. When I first smelled this out of the box, I thought it was a pretty scent (which later I heard someone describe it as smelling like the inside of a smokers car, who has one of those air fresheners hanging from their visor, and I realized just how true that was. I still liked the smell though). Once I sprayed it on my skin, I could not stand it. It changed into something completely different, and on me was mostly a very strong chocolate scent, I don't at all like chocolatey scents on my skin.

I will say that this perfume had incredible lasting power, and I think even lasted me the entire day. I really wanted to like this perfume so I tried it one more time, thinking maybe I was overreacting and just needed to give it another shot. Nope, still hated it, and eventually threw out the rest of the sample. I do love the bottle though.

something chocolaty and caramely that i like, but then patchouli and strong spices. Also, musk plays a big part in this scent too. This one's not for everyone; it may smell great on some and it may turn disastrous for others. it just depends on how your skin absorbs it. This is a stronger package, so for special occasions only, not for everyday, unless you wanna meet lots of haters.

I had a knockoff of this many years ago and it was vanilla-caramel-chocolate-musk heaven for me. I would spray it repeatedly around my house because it was an addicting aroma. Absolutely divine. I could never bring myself to pay the price for the real stuff, which was fine with me, because my knockoff was sooooooooooo good. I had a job at a discount warehouse type place, and they had a big bottle of Angel marked way down, it was the size I've seen in other stores for over $65 and they had it for $30 something. I thought, hey, if I ever want to try it, nows the time. So I was very excited about my great deal. I spritzed it on, hoping to be surrounded by that amazing scent I got from my knock off, and I was.........for about 3 seconds. And then this monstrous dirty hind quarters smell came out. I know, I know, its patchouli, but if you happened to notice in my fragrantica profile, I love patchouli. This was different, this smelled like BO from hell. I was SOOOO disappointed. I even tried to wear it out one day to see if that part faded or if it smelled differently on clothing, etc, but I could not escape the thought that "I smell like I havent bathed in three weeks". I was totally on board with this fragrance in theory, based on my experience with the impostor, but I just can't handle the dirty boogie man in it. Sorry to all the Angel lovers, I really did try so hard, and MOST of this fragrance is lovely, but there's no way to cut it off at that point and not smell the disgusting, somebody needs a gallon of soap poured over them, stink-knife part that attacks my nostrils at the end :{

It's the only perfume that when I wear it everybody asks me about it. Especially men. It lasts forever and after a while it's even better. Only for winter nights though. I find it seductive.... ;)

Yes, I know I'm rather difficult to please but Angel doesn't even *try*! I'm sorry.. This perfume is just a hell lot of expensive for a perfume that reminds me of an old woman's crazy sweaty pits! Gosh.. overpowering!

I love Womanity so I'm not really biased but this is just outrageous! I'm happy for people who like this but really.. a cheap bottle of charlie will leave you smelling the same- repulsive.

This reeks of cumin/body odor to me. I keep thinking one day I'll "get" this and understand why so many people think it is sex in a bottle. To me, it's chili along with some other weird items that shouldn't be hanging out in the same space.

I find the violet version of this particularly hilarious as innocent violets get destroyed by the stay-puft marshmallow man.

I don't hate it, I don't love it. To me, this fragrance is like putting a bunch of things together you don't expect to be together, but it ends up working out somehow in a very odd way. it's as if someone mixed multiple perfumes into one. I have no other words to describe it.

I can't say anything that hasn't been said already about Angel. I will just tell my story.

I first met Angel when it came out in my country and i got a spray sample with a magazine (oh those days are gone), and it was around Christmas. I felt it was special enough to wear at New years Eve, but I was 17 and it was a bit too much for me. A bit cloying and not for everyday use. I must admit the price aswell put me off, I wouldn't even dare to ask it as a present to anyone, I could get so many other things for the same price! And then everybody started using it and that did it for years, I didn't even think of wearing or buying it or even deciding if I liked it or not.

Then after a long search, I am looking for something special, something me, I am not your traditional girl, i have tatoos but also I am a mum and I also like being groomed and pretty, so I've been having a love hate relationship with floral perfumes because I like them but do not match my personality, I am discovering gourmands but they don't quite hit the spot.

After having a couple of tester strips of Alien and Womanity in my house and liking them a lot but finding them a bit summery (summer here is not too hot, do not fear) I decided to go and spray Angel. I was a woman on a mission, I didn't put any perfume on my wrists that day.

So sprayed on paper first, nothing like I remembered. I didn't like it. But then sprayed on my wrist... and BANG! There it was! Like an old flame come to life again, all the memories... and you know the first thing that came to my mind? "Its elegant but Rock and Roll! just like me" (or try to be on the elegant bit) and it was late and I had to go,and the price still holds me back, but as I was walking out the shop and on the street I almost went back to buy it, I was thinking "I HAVE to have it" again and again in my head, but I didn't. I just had this strange feeling all the way home of finding and old boyfriend that you never stopped loving, and having to say goodbye again.

I have never felt like this with a perfume, to the point that the next day (yesterday) I just didn't feel like wearing anything that I have, I just have to wear Angel.

The only problem is that I do not have too much money at the moment,with Christmas coming, but what I feel is passion and butterflies in my stomach every time I think today: "I have to get it, its waiting for me, its me!"

I don't know if my chemistry has changed as Ive got a little older , but Ive gone from "hate to love " with this !!

I have always admired and respected Angel as a perfume, but could never wear it , it was stinky on me. One day i tested the Violette Angel and loved it , and was happy id found a variety of angel i could wear.

My beloved "Violette Angel " is becoming very hard to find in the UK. When out testing some new frags this week , i sprayed some Angel on ....Just to see if was still as "stinky" on me ...NO !! It smelt divine and I am craving that patchouli bomb now!

I have Wish , which to me is an "Angel-Lite" , sweet but no earthiness / patchouli / skank. I never used to like the Patchouli , but have come to love it in Angel. I'm so glad i gave it a 2nd chance and re-tested it after all these years. Funny how our tastes and chemistry may change isn't it ?

This perfume is now top of my "want" , along with a new bottle of Alien. Im really missing my Alien.

Cant beat Mugler perfumes!!

If you love this perfume, good for you! :) But on me, it reminds me of a cigarette smoker. Bottle is pretty, though.

So to re-iterate what everyone is pretty much getting at. You CANNOT blind buy this. It smells wildly different on everyone. On me, revolting. If it smelled like on me, what it smelled on other people, it simply would not sell. I don't even have words to describe the pungent awful smell that Angel gave off. It was definitely a scrubber. I am not aware how Angel is supposed to smell, some people say chocolate & sweet. I got none of that lol. It's very very strange. It's a shame because I love the hefty star bottle.

Anyways, TEST BEFORE BUYING. It's really strong, spritz very very light amount because it's like an explosion of scent. I swear it only got a little spot on my finger by accident, BAM! Pungent explosion.

I'm still curious about this scent. I'll probably spray some on someone else just to see "OH! That's what it's supposed to smell like!"

I recently went to the fragrance counter looking for a new scent. I have to say that I am difficult to please where fragrance is concerned as so many of them smell too strong to me. The sales lady recommended Angel and sprayed a sample on me.
At first, I thought it was "ok" and told her I'd have to walk around with it for awhile...I didn't want to insult her as she told me it was her favorite.
After some "drying time" I found myself very interested in this scent. My daughter immediately smelled chocolate but I only smelled something sweet. When I got home, my husband said "you smell good". I did notice that the scent lasted for hours and I kept being drawn to smell my wrist.
The next day, I went back and asked for a sample. I wore Angel for 1 week and while no one stopped me to ask what I was wearing, my husbnad told me to "go buy that perfume" ...so I did!
The first note I smell is Honey. As it dries I get a powdery, sweet smell. I can't describe the combination very well but it settles into something I really like. AND...It's got my husband of 27 years grabbing me to smell my neck!

I bought the purse spray about a year ago and am still undecided. Interesting it is.....but I keep going back once a month to figure out why it starts to smell like sexy plastic after an hour. My husband will walk into the bathroom 3 hrs after application "damn what smells good" but not after immediate application. I use sparingly 1 spray, maybe I need to back up a little more.For me, I'll keep playin' with it I feel it merits as much.

I like it so much... But on other people!
I tried to use it, but I got terrible headaches, and on my skin it smells like black pepper!!! I don't know if it makes sense!!! ^_^
Anyway, I'm really sad that I can't wear such a nice frag! I tried the EDT version and I didn't get headaches but this one is far better... Obviously staying power of the EDT isn't as good as the EDP, and it actually smells quite different!

It is like taking out the smokey tar note and putting a sweet juicy melon and yummy cotton candy (melon+cotton candy = mellon flavored cotton candy) and that is exactly what i smell rich and sweet and warm with some chocolate it is wonderful i can't wait to put my hands on it

Really I wish people would understand that it can be a lovely fragrance when not poured all over you. I swear for about 5 years straight it was all I smelled anytime I went anywhere in the biggest and heaviest doses ever. Much much worse than when I tried Black Orchid (of which I loved but realized 1 spray was enough of!) One spray, sure, two sprays, ok, but more? yuck yuck and yuck!!

Having amazing sillage dosen't mean you need to douse yourself in the scent and Angel does indeed have sillage in spades with a spray or 2! This is what I wish some would understand. No need to choke out the world with the stuff.

These days as its not so popular I can tolerate it in small doses but there's still some that think its ok to take a bath in and it fuels the Angel hate all over again.

"Angel" was created to be different and to provoke a reaction, no doubt about it.
The packaging is attractive, and the smell something like "testosterone for the Woman". Technically, it feels very well executed but I find the fact it has become so very popular rather "suspicious".
This is a powerful gourmand the way "Spellbound" is, but with a difference; "Angel" will eat the person that's wearing it, alive!
One comes across a woman wearing this perfume, and goes away remembering the perfume alone.
Also, the name doesn't fit the smell much but I know it sounds better than "Sabotage", which to be honest, is what it actually does to the one who wears it. :)

A note: Summer doesn't like it at all.

Upon reading all these reviews about Angel smelling chocolately, I had to go break out my bottle and spritz some on. I am utterly jealous of the people who get the chocolate scent. On me, Angel is very sharp, but still powdery. Almost too strong for any kind of work environment. Definitely complex, and not a go to fragrance...I really have to be in the mood for it.

I don't really understand the hype of Angel. I remember around 2003 it had a huge surge in popularity. I was 15 at the time and all the girls at school pined for a bottle.

To me, it's a sweet and rich, creamy chocolate smell but there's nothing that special about it. Yes, it smells pleasant but not for a fragrance to wear. I don't want to smell like scratch-and-sniff chocolate which is exactly the scent I get from this.

I'm just totally indifferent to it.

Again I find myself wearing Angel this evening. I freely admit that i don’t wear it nearly as often as necessary. It in itself truly is a masterpiece, as much of a phase in time as Chanel no.5 found herself, or Halston (1975) or even Poison (1985). A wonderful transition from the powerhouse fragrances of the 80’s and the floriental aldehyde smells of the 70’s, Angel finds herself alone in her flowerless structure in the early 90’s (1992).

The gourmand is born.

You might ask yourself, “what in the hell is a gourmand?” to which someone like me may be inclined to respond, “a fragrance that smells like food” to put it rather bluntly.

Behind all of the makeup, plastic, silicone and metal Angel does have a spirit I promise you. At first sniff this sauce-y lady may come off as trampy or rude with her sharp plethora of sweet mealy smells, one can surely admit that her start is a swift slap to the face. Her heart beats hard and hot with a perfect patchouli accord, which some describe as dirty or stinky, I cannot disagree more without becoming violent. Any harshness in the top accords is rounded out quickly, which does forgive Angel immensely in my opinion. A dark smokey amber chimes in within the first five minute upon application for me. a warning to any readers, the harsh opening to Angel becomes very addicting after awhile so you may want to hide it from yourself to insure you don’t wear too much.

I have the Angel theme music on repeat as I type this.

This came out in the beginning of what I think was a "youth" revolution in the early 90s until the end of that decade. We had dames, ladies, vixens, heroines, damsels and girls...but we had no angel. A woman with all the effervescence of a girl, all the sex a Vixen could muster, all the spirit and strength of a heroine, she wanted to be them all! And she becomes a lady only at the very end. With a audacious arrogance she descended upon us, inspiring the next two decades, dictating all the trends, and stunning every man along the way. Perhaps inspired the Madonna/Whore complex many guys have experienced since. Also the Angel obsession the media had in the 90s. Victoria's Secret Angels, Angelic looking popstars, angel centric films, Lady D. to Monica Lewinsky...a mad decade, where we questioned what women could and were ought to be. How far we could go, how much we could dream. And we're still looking for the answers. If the 2000s was the decade of the Vampire, the 90s was all about the "Angel".

Angel angel, angel...sweet, charming angel, how you confuse me so. I don't know whether to love you or hate you. I love you for your creativity, your energy, your soft, kind and tender sweetness. I love you for your uniqueness. I hate the sweet, cotton candy like beginning. That changes however when the caramel filled chocolate emerges, followed by sweet honey and delicate, softly smoky patchouli. It ends with the smell of very sweet, fruity bourbon. The dry down on this is beautiful and very sexy. Unique at the time of it's creation. And it still stands strong against the many copycats. Even if you didn't know Angel was the gourmand trailblazer that ignited the madness that ensued, if you smelled this, your brain should recognize that many after her are just fashion victims.

I don't like gourmands or anything that's too sweet in general. But I have to give credit to this one. I don't want to. So many people wear this. I can't blame them. It pleases almost everybody. I've yet to find something that works with my chemistry as brilliantly as this does. Believe me when I say I have a hard time with perfumes because of my chemistry. I'm almost embarrassed to wear Angel because it is so common. In terms of men and people in general, this actually gets me the least reaction...Unbelievable right? The only man that ever complimented me while wearing this was in a train. He just said I smelled nice. Many women immediately know what I'm wearing. Oh well. In my opinion, in terms of being creative and unique, and doing an incredible job of doing so, this deserves to be up there with the greats: Shalimar, Joy, Chanel N.5, Opium...It's not "me" but it is a masterpiece in its own right.

Got my little vial of Angel today and was a little bit afraid of what was hiding in the tiny bottle! Heard so much here about love/hate, the harsh notes, the dreadful patchouli (that im always avoiding as much as possible)! Well, with fear in me eyes a sprayed the tiniest amount of the blue liquid on my wrist and was expecting a knock-out!!
No such thing happend!!!! Only a sweet, bit confusing but lovely and actually not very strong scent reached my nostrils after smelling my wrists!
Im not a smoker so my smellingsense is not damaged, cant believe that i could actually tolerate a fume based on patchouli, can actually almost not feel it!
What i do feel when i sitt here writing is a lovely caramel scent, with a hint of rose and pepper, maybe a bit coconut as well and some soft patchouli in the background!
Absolutely nothing to fear here, no BO smell that i can detect, no evil angel, just an inocent, lovely gourmand that is on me almost an skinscent, will test it when im out with others soon and look for reactions! I can tell it has nothing in common with Lolita Lempicka (except the vanilla), nothing in common with Prada, it has, dont kill me now, more in common with VW Princess in the drydown, but that one has more chocholat in the base and flowers in the top!
Starting now feel a bit musk in the drydown aswell and thats a plus! I have a large bottle of Angel la Rose and i love that one, in the drydown there is no differense between them according to me!
Well, my conclusion is that this is an pleasant, not heavy or cloying scent, not god enough to buy a large bottle, i stick to my la Rose and LL witch are my nr one! The only negativ thing is the very price bottles and they acctualy smells a bit synthetic, witch not Prada does!

Ok, let me explain why I feel this way! I'm not brand new to Angel. I've smelled it around, I've sampled it, but I have never purchased it. I go to the perfume counter pretty often and just smell things. The sales associate always always always encouraged me to buy Angel. He said it was so me (I trust him oddly enough). I tried it and liked it but felt it was strong stuff that could easily offend as I tend to wear perfume doing ordinary things. I don't get a lot of big nights out.

I got a sample last year. On particularly cold January days I would spritz a tiny amount and be absolutely in love but after a few days start to feel self conscious.

So...being completely candid...today was not starting out as a great day. My life has been hectic lately and in my life sometimes I fall way short of the things I want to accomplish. Being completely aware of this fact of life when you have to juggle responsibilities in life, I was feeling blue, overwhelmed, sad. I needed something...different.
So there's my little sample vial of Angel. It was comforting before. It's going to be a chilly fall day..so I go for it.

I'm not even kidding...IT COMPLETELY CHANGED MY MOOD!!! I am optimistic now. I have the courage to keep doing the things I'm doing even though it doesn't always yield the result I want. I know I'll get there...I just have to keep trying.

Angel taught me a lesson. Angel is something I will wear just for me. I won't be afraid of it's power or mine. It's the angel on your shoulder that tells you to keep going....we all need something as powerful as that in our arsenal...

I love the perfume, but the Angel body cream, omg...
OMG, the body cream! Less patchouli, no chocolate, but with lots of hot caramel, honey and berries! It's so tasty, I feel like eating myself! It's a gourmand explosion in combination with the EdP, make sure you're in the mood.

I love Angel, but don’t wear it very often. Angel is beautiful and extravagant, not cute or pretty. I would call it dark oriental: lots of honey, jasmine, earthy patchouli and dark high quality chocolate, mixed with tobacco and cheap men’s aftershave. So if you need comforting scent, Angel will disappoint you. i have the big bottle of this. im on the fence about whether i like it or not but i wear it sometimes. my husband loves it. the smell is not usually the type of stuff i wear though. has a very strong unusual scent to it.

Angel is the perfume version of "Night With Her Train of Stars": An indigo angel with huge black wings. She has Pre-Raphaelite hair and androgynous features, and is surrounded by storm clouds, cherubs, swallows, and orbs of light. Flowers drop from her arms to mark her flight.

Maybe partly because I love the show Angel! LOL Love the unusual chocolate-y amber-y goodness, it is unique and unforgettable.

Everybody says that it's a strong perfume, but on me it's delicate, elegant, soft, dreamy. Real angel, real blue shining star. It certainly has its special character. But I personally cannot understand why some people call it annoying or "loud". On my skin it has no "gourmand notes", no caramel, probably just a little spoon of natural honey :) The rest is patchouli, amber, tobacco, fresh exotic fruits and berries, and Something, that makes Angel Angel. A spoon of a dream, probably. If it fits you, it fits you very well. I wear it with my red lipstick on, defined eyes, little black dress and no jewelry. Angel is a jewel itself.

I dont really understand this fragrance, i ve tried it many many times and somehow it s very peculiar to me.. i own 150mls of it somehow, AND IT IS A DECANT NIGHTMARE.Imagine your hands+ kitchen covered in Angel..

Initially the smell starts of strangely salty~,i keep thinking artificial Maraschino cherry, along with some salty caramel, obviously earthy patchoulli is very dominant here, but then 10 minutes latter, every note begins to meld in, and BOOM, a big bale of tobacco smack you right in the face?? The tobacco is like raw cigarette, very spicy and a hint of honey. It becomes intensely masculine yet has a sexy edge to it, yet cloying at times, with a headache-inducing sillage..

I dont even know if i like it or not? I was hoping for all the nice things like candies + chocolate... but nada. Guess this is very much so like a TOBACCO VANILLE x100strength.

An explosion of smells in my opinion! Each time I smell it is different (obviously it smells different on people too). Sometimes I really like it and sometimes I find it too strong for me. But overall it's very tasty good smell.

SIGH!!!! I am still so undecided about this perfume. I bought it as a set with shower gel and body lotion and EDP. EDP is VERY strong, one squirt is so powerful my son could smell it across school playground...not sure that's good although if he can't see me maybe he can locate me by smell ???
Seriously now, it tends to last a very long time. I have tried just a bit of body lotion on half of my arm (without layering) and even this was very powerful. I have to say I do not like the initial bitter smell but after that wears off (couple of hours???) I get lovely rich dark chocolate and coconut with some vanilla and burnt toffee. Don't get anything else though. I can still smell it next day and the day after...
I have smelt this on other people and on some it smells divine and on others pretty horrid.
I have got Pivoine Angel and I think I prefer that one as it's no way as strong as this.

I bought this after smelling it on my friend and absolutely LOVING it on her! I loved that it had chocolate undertones and it smelt expensive, exotic, exciting and amazing. Unfortunately, my skin chemistry is obviously quite differnet from hers because everytime I've tried using it it smells really harsh and gets up my nose (not in a good way) and makes me feel a little sick and headachy. I'm very disappointed because as I said, on my friend it smells divine! This fragrance really lingers - for longer than I've ever known a fragrance to before, which is either really really good if it suits you or really really bad if it doesn't. I could still smell it on my scarf 4 days later. This is obviously a fragrance to try before you buy because depending on the individual person's chemistry it can smell vastly different.

Angel isn't one of the most delicious perfumes I've ever smelled. It certainly is THE MOST DELICIOUS perfume ever, in my opinion.

Of course, it is very sweet but you got to know what is the best time to wear it. I'm fall in love for it. It is a female perfume but I don't mind. I wear it, too.

It is very in your face and super heavy. Way to heavy for daytime use. (to me, it is way to heavy for any kind of use!) The eau de toilette version is better. The bottles are cute :)

There is NO capsule term that will ever describe Angel. Angel is like the first time you see a real rhinoceros, it's so darn big and ugly and prehistoric, yet it's beautiful, and it should be impossible BUT there it is.
It's the massive collision of contradictory unusual smells all at once that makes Angel so outrageous. It's like smelling a gourmet burger that a pregnant women would crave, bergamot meatballs with black chocolate sauce dolloped on high blue Roquefort cheese in vanilla syrup. And astonishingly somehow it hangs together as one creature,like the rhinoceros. This is not so much perfume as an act of perfume terrorism. Be afraid, be very afraid.

Whooa, there are so many haters for this fragrance! I understand that it is a love or hate fragrance but please, be a bit courteous to lovers of Angel, by carrying on about how you can't understand why anybody could "like" this fragragrance, or demoting it to "bug spray". I guess we must have completely different ideas about what bug spray smells like, because as far as I'm concerned Angel does not smell like bug spray. While I'm a fan of Angel, I can understand why it isn't for everyone. Yes, I'll admit it's big and loud. Yes, it's at the point of being sickly sweet. And the patchouli and caramel/chocolate is nauseating (I bought it and even I get that!). But what I see predominantly, is a magical scent, that glitters like a star and doesn't hold anything back... It is, truly an angel.

Wonder if I should have another go with Angel......1st time = spritz on wrist and 'pow' whacked out by popcorn and diesel fumes ! So overpowering I don't know how I stopped myself scrubbing it off a dozen times before I fell asleep. Woke up to the loveliest rose-scented honey powder. Just adorable- and not like me all.

thick and cloying. it smells like I can taste it - and not in a good way. vanilley but powdery and carmelly in a sickening nauseating fume. I do not like this scent AT ALL. makes my stomach heave when I smell it on anyone and I can identify it from a mile away - nose wrinkling yuckiness.

Angel smells sweet, but not fruity-sweet or grandma-sweet, but rather cold, smoky sweetness.

It it a very strong, dramatic scent (for the evening), and IMO its strong sweetness only works because the sweetness is arrested by it being cold.

If I tried to describe it by the type of woman I see wearing it, it would be a sort of beautiful, passionate woman who has a cold, unreachable attitude.

It is true that if you apply too much of it it seems very strong at first, but give it some time and light application and you get that cold sweet scent.

I would like to thank ~charlottesmom~ for her review and mention of the Q-tip application . A light touch is definitely the answer and insures that there will not be an ANGEL overload. I had previous reviewed how Angel had turned on me... SO sad as I had a HUGE bottle of my beloved favorite . I tried this application... perfect!

angel is SO WEIRD... when i tested it at the counter today, the perfume lady laughed at my facial expression.. i didn't even know i was making a face.. it has that weird theirry mugler oomph to it... womanity has it a LOT.. even more so than angel. it's so bold and loud and just shouts "LOOK AT ME" i can see why people love it tho.. its a beautiful scent but , for the 1000th time, its just such an odd scent to me. i can def smell the dark chocolate and patchouli more than anything. the drydown reminds me of aquoline pink sugar.. they both have that strong, robust-ish, thing going on.. i want to own a bottle of this just so i can sniff it when i get bored and surprise myself.

First I liked it, then I loved it, but then I tried it again and it hurt my throat to smell it all day. Ultimately, I do not like this fragrance. It just smells overwhelmingly like bug spray. Originally, I did like it because it reminded me of the outdoors and camping. Then I decided it was just too much, and why spend that much if I want to nostalgic smell of the outdoors? If I want to smell like this again, I'll just go to Target and purchase a $4 bottle of Off.

There's something about this perfume that just makes me go, "Ugh!" I think it might be the orchid but I can't be sure. Either way, my boyfriend loves this stuff, probably because every single girl in America wore this back in high school, but that just makes me like it even less. I don't want to smell like everybody else! I've never purchased this, so I don't know how it would work with my body chemistry- it could be great, but I'll never know because I just have a bad initial reaction to it every time I smell it. It's too strong and makes my throat hurt. I prefer my L de Lolita.

Angel is a robust, sensuous, sinful spirit. This is a backless red dress that hugs and tugs at a fever pitch as evening looms...beckoning luried affairs. Oh beware the scent of vanilla; it can be tenacious.

I haven't smelled Angel in years, and something tells me i probably should, just to see if i hate it sa much as i used to when EVERYBODY i knew was wearing it. I had this one particular friend who doused herself in it before nights out to the pub and all i could smell was hideous hideous patchouli combined with her excessive cigarette smoking and wine breath. Angel reminds me of the nights i wanted to go home at 4am and she would want to kick on with the party well into the next afternoon. Somehow the smell would attach itself to me and i would wake up later , hungover, needing to vomit, and having the scent of Angel stuck in my nostrils ugh.

Considering what the most dominant notes are to me, I'm surprised this didn't give me a serious toothache. It is quite gourmand, but the patchouli has been used to great effect here, tempering all the sugar. On me this is a whirl of candied almonds, vanilla, caramel and chocolate, with a definite patchouli drying it out and soaking up all that sticky sweetness. I also do catch a hint of a lovely orchid throughout. This is really very well done and I can understand why it's so popular.

I got half a dozen sample-sized spray vials of this and spritzed some on a few minutes ago... I'm not happy at all. I am only writing about the top notes, I guess- will have to wait for the drydown. I'm hoping (maybe against hope) that this would pleasantly surprise me like Mariah Carey's M recently did, because all I'm smelling now is a whole lotta patchouli, pepper and alcohol. Nothing else. I have never done drugs, but I'm wondering: is this what marijuana smells like?!

Update: It's been four hours since I first sprayed this on- the smell isn't as strong now, and I can smell slight chocolate and other notes in there, but it's still too strong for me!

ANGEL is a special fragrance, it's magic and sexy

I just spent the last almost 2 hours reading every one of the reviews for Angel and boy was it good reading! The opinions on Angel are so empassioned at times either pro or con but they sure are passionate. Ive also spent many many hours pouring over my Perfumes book by Luca and Tanya (Tanya gave Angel 5 stars even though at first sniff she hated it and thought it was the most vile thing she had ever sniffed), it's funny how opinions change as she now loves Angel. I had the same experience as I too HATED Angel the first time I smelled it, it was IMO throughly vile.....I now LOVE it! I fully believe that perfume not only comes down to chemistry but also how light or heavy handed you are with the "trigger" ;0) Angel is a perfume that is IMO has to be applied with a very light hand or it turns into a big huge overpowering devil, applied lightly (one or two well placed sprays) and on many many women (and men!) but not everyone, it is a beautiful but seemingly very different scent depending on what your skin picks up most. I get strong patchouli from the very first sniff pretty much through to the dry down, some don't get patchouli at all! Some get chocolate some don't...etc....Angel is a scent that must be tried on before buying as it is so different on each wearer, my advise it to apply it lightly and even if your nose scrunches up try to make it at least a couple hours some have found that they love it even though the first blast is off putting. Give it a shot, you may start to like it and even love it even if you hated it at first.

This is the first perfume that has made it from my dislike list straight into the love list.

For a long time I've found Angel overwhelming, nauseating and vulgar. Maybe it's not completely untrue but Angel is so much more. It is one of the most complex perfumes I've ever encountered. It has so many notes and layers, and when you test it for the first time it may just be too much of everything.
My repentance started, when I was in Paris 3 months ago. I smelled my most hated perfume on a lot of women and it suddenly began to intrigue me.
To make a full description of Angel would be almost impossible. I find it very hard to capture the essence of this fragrance. It keeps changing character from minute to minute, from each time you wear it, from woman to woman and according to the weather.

On my skin Angel always opens with a big alluring honey note which always lingers, though it may fade. Sometimes it transforms into a warm creamy tropical coconut scent with exotic fruits, which is one of Angels most beautiful aspects. Other times Angel is like a waft of hot chocolate drifting through a garden of lush flowers.
Angel mostly settles to a bittersweet scent of honey combined with a hint of rose, amber and patchouli. I'm no patchouli lover, especially not when patchouli is mixed with sweet notes. However, I find the patchouli in Angel very muted and vague, more like licorice or anise.
No need to tell that this perfume definitely has sillage and longevity is extraordinary.

Angel is an opulent controversial scent that doesn't please everyone, so I mostly spray with a light hand.
I'm very happy that I gave Angel a second chance and not just rejected this masterpiece as being too loud and cloying. I simply had to approach Angel with a positive attitude to fall in love with it.
I'm now a true defender of my beautiful Angel though I'm not blind to the darker side of her character.

this scent is like a breath of an angel. Smell is like not from this earth... when I spray it I feel like an angel myself, someone who just have been flying in the sky and touched the stars. It's cold, shining, pure and mysterious scent. And the bottle desine reminds me frozen star shaped diamond:)
The funniest thing is when I smell it at first it reminded me a smell of cigarettes:D

I wore this when it first came out but after a couple of bottles I moved on to other fragrance, although still enjoyed having a sniff from the tester at Boots!

Many years on, and I thought I really couldn't get away wearing Angel any more, so bought Innocent instead, which is lovely. However, the chance came up to buy Angel at a discount and I couldn't help myself!

The opening can be suffocating if you spray too much, but after a couple of hours Angel is at its best...I get rich warm honey-chocolate.

My husband says it smells like fly-killer, my mum hates it, and I would never wear it to work due to its offending nature, so I usually wear it going to bed when my husband works away....Angel feels like my guilty secret, and I like it like that. I wear Angel for me, and only me!

This is the love of my life. I like bold fragrances, that stand out and that are not for the 'general public'. BUT... this doesn't work with my body chemistry. It smells like sweat, pure and stinky sweat. But I have a solution for that: I spray it once on my clothes (chest area): it works!! I especially love the drydown, sweet caramel and vanilla.

Love it. LOVE. This is my kind of scent. I don't do light, I don't do florals, I despise anemic fruit scents that have the character and staying power of one of those Kool Aid inspired body sprays from BBW. I want rich. I want intoxicating, I want luscious memorability and this is it. This perfume is Mae West or Jane Russell, not Nicole Kidman, and that is precisely what I want in a scent.

I was very disapointed by Angel because I thought it sounded amazing from the notes listed. On me however even when I sprayed only a tiny amount it was sickeningly strong and toxic smelling. It did smell better once it had faded a bit but it took a long time to get to that point. I was wearing it at work and when I walked in the room my boss said. "Who just sprayed fly spray?" I stopped using it after that! I think it must have been all the patchouli that was too overwhelming one me!

This is definitely one of those polarizing scents - so many reviews that are staunchly in the love or hate column. I'm on the love side for Angel. Back when it was released I was super curious. It was not today when there are a zillion gourmand fragrances - we were on the downslide from the 80s florals. This stood out then because of the combination of notes that balance the fruit. I always think of it as a rather modern oriental and it still seems that way today. It's complex which is not the typical approach to many vanillas or gourmands...

On me, the predominant notes are the berries and patchouli with a bit of powder on the drydown. It's downright juicy and yummy on application - full of fruit but not thin like a lot of the 90s melon-based scents. One of the things I like most is that there is a balance to the vanilla which quite often is so strong a note that it can drown out others on drydown.

How wearable it is depends not only on an appropriate touch and chemistry but also understanding that a strong (talk about sillage!) fragrance like this should NOT be applied above the waist. I was schooled in that by Mr Tsefalas at our local perfumerie. I complained of headaches and he astutely noted that I was putting way too much scent in places where it would catch my, and surrounding people's, noses with not enough tempering atmosphere. For this and other strong/sticky fragrances it's pretty important to keep the application low so that the heat of your body lets it rise and release the various notes softly as you go through your day.

It's definitely not one for a blind buy! I haven't owned a bottle for years so need to do a little testing to see if it still works on me. When I wore it in the past, I always got positive comments from my boyfriend and mom, so the appeal goes into many dimensions. When I test it, though, I will apply to my lower leg not my wrist. :)

I love Angel and I love Angel Innocent, on a whim I decided to layer the two and holy moley does the combination ever smell wonderful!! I only used 1 spray of Innocent per wrist and lightly dabbed Angel that was first sprayed on a cotton ball over the top of the Innocent (too much Angel makes me ill but lightly dabbed it smells beautiful). My 9 year old son was my sniff tester and his eyes rolled back in his head and he said "mom you smell delicious!" lol! We'll see if the husband likes it (or even notices!)....

Probably the most hideously beautiful perfume of all time, Angel is the queen of strong, intimidating "Don't fuck with me" fragrances. I've come to accept that I could never wear it (it just doesn't fit me), but I must give Angel credit where credit is due, and guys - don't even bother with the men's one, just go all the way and wear this. It's just as masculine.

Honeyed chocolate and patchouli descend from slutty perfume heaven with a squadron of fruits. If you haven't given Angel a full wearing yet, slap yourself and then go out and try it.

Angel is a definite hit for me, however it's so strong and in your face I can absolutely understand other people's dislike. It's not what you'd traditionally think of as perfume like and it has a definite personality, with that in mind it's certainly not one I can wear on an everyday whatever the weather bases. The first time I tried 'Angel' (and I'm a recent convert to it) I thought what the hell is this, this is not perfume but a stink! But after trying out a few times I fell for it! To start with I get a heavy 'dirty' earthy patchouli (like the original oil not cleaned up) smells a bit like damp leaves and earth. Love it! after it starts to dry down some what I get the chocolate and honey, yummy slightly edible scent but the earthy scent still hangs on in the background. I think it has THE BEST staying power of any perfume I've tried, I can still smell it the next day (I love to get it in my hair after it's dried down for hours and fall asleep to the faint whiff of it). oh no I think I'm hooked!! I feel a bit concious of the fact, when I'm wearing it that so many people hate it and must think yuck, but I get over it, I love it so, It makes me happy! :0)

I tested angel when i was a young girl (11 or 12 years old) I hated it.
But today my flavour changed. I heard that so many men love this perfume.I tested it again in the age of 17 and then i loved it too.I sprayed it on my coat and after some weeks i smelled the coat and the scent was still there.A few years later my boyfriend bought me a bottle for christmas.I was very happy to have this scent as a present because its so expensive.
I know many people who didn't like angel.My mom and my sis.But my boyfriend also love it.
I love the patchouli and the sweet scents and the long-lasting.On clothes it lasts some weeks.

Chocolate & caramel bomb!!..... I dislike it initially when I wear it, it smells less powderry & warm after an hour of wearing it. I can smell the patchouli initially, its sweet but exotic and recommended for evening wear in the cooler months.

I love the shape of the bottle. However, i spent an hour stuck in an elevator with someone who just applied it. I can't smell it anymore, it gives me violent migranes.

It seems either people love or hate this one. I love it. A tiny dab on my wrists lasts all day. Many different layers of scent throughout. I'd say use it sparingly - too much may offend people who dont like strong scents. 8/10

I see that Angel has a lot of fans but I really don´t this perfume. Mix of chocolate, vanilla, cotton candy and caramel-souds maybe good but I felt nausea and headache after I used it.

I don't know how it happened as I never liked this perfume on me at all, too much patchouli, but I loved sniffing it on others, it smelled delicious! The only thing I did different last time I tried it was I applied it extreamly lightly (sprayed 1 spray on a q-tip then dabbed lightly on my wrists). It is still a bit heavy on the patchouli for my taste but it dies down pretty fast, it then morphs into a beautiful vanilla with a tad of a soapy smell to it (Innocent does the same on me only with less patchouli, I LOVE Innocent!). Both Angel and Innocent are more winter scents on me, though I'm sure some could pull it off beautifully in spring/summer. Unfortunately both Angel and Innocent only last about 3 hours on me...:0( Alien on the other hand lasts forever, literally 12 hours so I was hoping to get the same lasting power out of all TM's fragrances...but alas...

Smells like a chocolate/citrus/baby powder disaster. I would never personally purchase, not my style. Very overpowering. The lasting power is phenomenal, wear this at your own risk and not in an inclosed space.

As you can guess I am around someone that wears this daily to work.

The Angel is a Beast!

First sniff Dark Chocolate followed by Melon, Caramel, and Honey. Overpoweringly sweet and sassy. It tones down with this LOVELY apricot and sweet floral Jasmine, Rose, Lilly of the Valley scent then again it becomes sugary and fruity. The end is just great with this sweet Vanilla-Chocolate combined with Patchouli and Caramel.
Smelling from the vial I sense Chocolate and Caramel.

At first I had mixed feeling about this one because it was so sweet but it's NOT that kind of sickly sweet, it is that kind of strange sweet combination. Definitely a Thierry Mugler creation. Too strange not to like it.

Great sillage and lasting power.

i'm in love with this perfume since i was 14.it has characteristic,it is not the same with the others. it is sharp,impressive,and impulsive.
it isnt very fruity on me.it smells spicy and then earth notes.
2 days after first sprayed, it smells earth after rain.heavenly!

At first sniff (just smelling the sprayer, without releasing perfume) I thought I loved it. I got a sample and couldn't wait to wear it. I will say this- it is delightful, if you can stand the first 6 hours of headache and nausea. After that, it's nice.
This is for those who want to shout "HEY, I'M WEARING PERFUME! SMELL ME? SMELL ME?". And of course you smell them, so do people 3 towns over. It is so overwhelming. I find this to be true of all the TM fragrances I've smelled. It also gives me awful, awful headaches.
-One reviewer in one site mentioned that the opening smelled like rotting fruit to her and I totally see that. This is just not for me (and hopefully not for anyone who has to spend time near me.)

Ok, i must admit that this fragance allured me long before smelling it. I don't know... the bottle, the story behind it, the idea of a fragance so oversweet... it was the entire world of angel that called my name.
After looking for it in many (i mean, MANY, because in my country it's an unknown fragance) stores, i tested it, and fell instantly in love <3

At the beginning, chocolate and honey are very dominant, and, since i don't know how patchouli smells like, the strange note i sense must be it. Also there´s a hint of cofee, but it seems that nobody else get it. Then, when those notes soften, a magic storm of sweet and wonderful notes mix eachother: caramel, chocolate and honey again, vanilla, and i think i can smell some jasmine too. And the base notes are basicly the same, but closer to the skin.

It's like a magic spell, an embrace from the stars, like lying over a cloud mattress... it's just wonderful. BUT i can understan why not everybody likes it.
I wear it eventhough i'm a boy, because to me it's pretty unisex ;)

So weird,I've changed my BIG dislike into a like it(the reason for which it's not in my love list it's that it's not too wearable)I can't believe I was so blind and superficial to say that i dont't like it.The first time I smelled it seemed to be very strange and heavy but I saw that so many people like it I gave it another chance.It's delicios and magic at the same time!

Strangely, a woman told me I smelled like a baby. I was confused until I remembered reading that the smell of a baby is supposed to be one of the best smells. I'll take the compliment

People have followed me around just to tell me I smell good. It must agree with me. I myself am surprised I like this becuz it is super sweet and I usually HATE sweet scents. It does contain a mega-dose of patchouli so be prepared for that. The drydown is especially sexy to me.

I dont think Ive ever picked up any of the floral notes at all. Hot Texas summers are no friend to angel, or any of my other favorite woody orientals. BUT today i layered ONE spray of Angel with a few spritzes of bath and body works Honeysuckle body spray and one spritz of Escada Moon Sparkle and it helped balance all the sugary-syrupy-ness. i was afraid this might cause a headache but, no, thank goodness. I kept getting whiffs of something warm/comforting/sexy, slightly masculine and i realized it was me. Otherwise, its DEFINITELY NOT FOR SUMMER!! That's probably where many of the hate reviews come from.

Everytime I smell this I love it. But alas on me it smells redolent of cat pee. I love it on others but something about my skin makes it smell disgusting to me and anyone else who smells it on me. Sigh, I can't wear them all. Shame.

This was my signature for about 5 years as I was constantly asked what I was wearing and usually by men. I discovered it at the hair salon I frequent. I asked the same gal each time what was the wonderful fragrance she was wearing. She said "You ask me that every time. Angel is the only thing I ever wear." It was so delicious on her I had to buy some. When I first put it on I thought perhaps I'd made a big mistake. It was so overly sweet for my taste. However with the drydown came the reward. It was truly made for my chemistry. I will say this... As you can tell from the reviews it is a love hate fragrance. Get some samples and try it for a few days before you buy. The only reason I'm not currently wearing it is that I just want something new and different. My bottom line: LOVE IT!

I loved this perfume from the first time I tried it. I cannot however, afford it. One of these days, i will save up the one hundred dollars required to purchase myself a few sprays of this pretty scent. It is soooo expensive!!!!!!! My second problem is that everyone and their sisters wear it. I would have already made that big purchase (probably many times) if it had not been for it's ridiculus popularity.

For those who've tried Alien: you know that weird, burning hair/melting plastic/lighter fluid note in the drydown?

That note is pretty much what Angel smells like straight out of the bottle, only amplified at least fivefold. And combined with radioactive cotton candy for good measure.

This is the unholy lovechild of Pink Sugar and an aging hippie's old underwear. Actually dries down to a softer, more rounded chocolate-patchouli scent, but you'd have scrubbed it off by then.

Masterfully blended and incredibly well-balanced, yet absolutely ghastly and vulgar in its entirety. In short, a must try in order to experience one of the strangest offerings from the world of mass produced fragrances, and to contemplate the sheer marketing brilliance that led to this becoming a best seller.

I ignored this perfume for the longest time! When I finally tried it, I was much disappointed! After all the hype, I couldn't believe what I was smelling! To sum this perfume up, it smells like they tried to tweak the scent of sugar! Hideous.

I can see the point that you have to grow up for this parfume, but I haven't yet. It is too heavy and kind of oversweet to me but on the other hand it's very significant. Nevertheless I'm not about to buy it.

Hi, this is my first review.
I don't get Angel. When I first tried it, when I was about 15 I thought it was the most horrible smell ever. Who would want to smell like chocolate and toffee?
I didn't go near it for ages and it put me off trying other Thierry Mugler fragrances as well.
It wasn't until I became more interested in perfume in the last year or so and read Luca Turin and Tania Sanchez's book that I tried it again.
I just couldn't believe that the awful scent I had tried was the same one that they voted the best women's fragrance!
I bought a small bottle basically blind and I just haven't been able to decide if I love it or hate it.
There is more going on than just chocolate and caramel, I had never waited long enough to see it before. However the caramel smell is just so strong and long lasting that, for me, it dominates everything else.
The chocolate and vanilla have grown on me but the caramel is just too sickly.
However, although my concious feeling is that I don't like it, I keep going back to it and I certainly don't hate it like I did.
In the book Luca Turin says only wear it if you know how to tell the joke, I don't think I do :-(

I tested it at the mall but didn't notice that the tester bottle was broken, so I kept pushing it wondering why there's no juice coming from it... until I noticed that my hand was covered in it :S and maybe a drop or two fell on my scarf and I could smell the scent on it for weeks, no matter how many times I washed it :( the lasting power is out of this world! But I don't like the scent, it's too strong and spicy. But I don't think it smells like cat urine either :)

My new signature perfume... I have found my new love... Nothing compares to Angel...

This is definitely a 'mood' fragrance for me. I have to be in a certain mood to wear it because it is so sweet and tends to start headaches. It's unmistakably full of sugary vanilla and sweet florals. But I love it! It's warm and cosy and makes me feel very special when I do wear it. Definitely in my top 5.

Like putting a cattle prod up your nose. If you can wear this - God love you. If we have to stand next to you - God help us...

I used to have a bottle of this stuff back in the day and I used to love wearing it, but by the time my bottle ran out I had moved on to so many other amazing scents that I never considered repurchasing. I recently acquired a small sample of this stuff and smelling it again made me realize how much I missed it. I've been playing around with it for a couple of days deciding whether or not I wanted to repurchase it for old times sake. I think that getting a small bottle may be in order ;)

I am so in love with ANGEL... Its a very mysterious and original scent. I cannot stop smelling it, I have never smelt anything like it. It mixes so well with my skins chemistry and I have received a lot of compliments when wearing it. It smells a lot like dark chocolate mixed with honey and cotton candy and marshmallows..Its yummy, 2 squirts is enough to make anyone drool...

Angel... so like most frangrance lovers in here it important for all us to smell divine. What can be more divine than an angel? So at age 14, I picked up a gorgeous bottle shaped like a star and sprayed myself and thought, this smells horrible! I was put off by Thierry Mugler until years later I found my Alien and fell in love. So I tried angel again, and I tried to understand why people love this frangrace? It lasts forever, it invades, some people love it and others hate it! For me it has days where I like it, and others where I cant stand it and hate the patchulli taking over the sweetness. It has given me headaches, and nausea! Its really expensive yet everyone has it. I figure if I am going to pay alot of money for a fragance I want to love it at all times no matter the occasion or the season. I want to love the fragrance from beggining to end, although yes I want it to last. I will continue to be confused with Angel the rest of my life. But I would rather not smell it on myself anymore. Still I Love the bottle though LOL.

Thierry Mugler- Angel

My experience with Angel has been bumpy to say the least. I remember losing a bet with a friend and the result was for me to ride the busiest bus of the day wearing Angel. Never in my life had i felt so self-conscious of myself or so.......to the point of where i felt almost embarassed and like i was making all the people around me suffer and their facial expressions spoke volues about how they were feeling about me. This was a result of simply 3 sprays of Angel. In another way Angel makes me feel special, its atomic bomb-like scent and its obnoxious-in your face manner makes it a fragrance full of flamboyance. I think Angel is more a personality than it is a fragrance. Beautiful but incredibly intense. Lasting power is beyond phenomenal. I dont wear Angel anymore....i think my bus experience has put me off completly. But i like to spray this into the air and immerse my nose into the cloud of scent that always leaves me somwhere between feeling pleasured and incredibly nauseated.

This masterpiece of modern perfumery smells like a blast of overly ripe soon to be rancid fruit compote sprinkled with stale cinnamon powder and a touch of rose liqueur, surrounded by grotesquely indolic jasmine bouquet with cloying tropical orchid accord woven through the indoles, resting on a monstrous base of caramel, sickeningly sweet melted vanilla ice cream drips hardening on the kitchen counter, moldy old hershey’s chocolate kisses left over from last Christmas, and the overwhelming odor of musty graveyard dirt from a freshly dug mass grave. Angelic isn’t it? BAH. I wouldn’t even want this sprayed on my corpse.

As others here have said, something in this immediately makes me think of Christmas. It's still a mystery to me as to why though. Anyway, I can see why it is way to sweet for some, sticky sweet. But I find the combination of the other notes in it make it irresistibly interesting.

As I'm nearing the end of my 30's, I'm finding that my skin chemistry is changing... my skin will now devour and CHEW through any scent that doesn't have a "thick" or Guerlainade-like base... usually involving some combination of amber, milk, benzoin, tonka, etc. (Sparkly florals and light marine or green scents literally fall apart on me these days.)

Angel is one of those that survives on me. I apply lightly and, while overly sweet the first 10 minutes, it later provides me with a soft, steady, dreamy veil of a scent.

I don't love it or hate it. I can tell that it's strong, but I don't think it's as distinctive as everyone says it is. Idk, that's just me. Anyway, it's too much vanilla & patchouli for my taste. And way too expensive!!

pippab... I don't think Angel has an "age" at all. I think if something works for you then you should go for it.

This scent doesn't work on me at all. I think this is probably one of those scents that are very much chemistry dependent.

I first experienced Angel when a lady who was wearing it came into the cellar door where I work. It's such a distinct and attractive fragrance. People always ask what I'm wearing. I was lucky to be given the hat box containing perfume x 2, body lotion, body spritz and hand lotion for my birthday and I couldn't be happier! I really like the fact that the bottles are refillable too.

I know this is very popular, but i hate it. Let me tell you how I smell this on my skin: It's like I put a nice perfume, go to a night club, stay around a lot of smokers and a lot of incense (patchoulli), go home, forget the dirty clothes three days in my closet, than smell them - that's how Angel smells to me. I really wanted to like it. Years ago, I smelled it in someone (don't remember who) and liked it a lot. Maybe my memory is playing me tricks or maybe my nose is different after the years, but I hate it. :( It's nauseating to me. It smells like a room with a bad smell (lot of cigarettes) that someone has sprayed Paco Rabanne's Black Xs all over it.

A nostalgic perfume for sure. I cannot pull it off unfortunately. But it is definitely a perfume someone will remember on you. I get whiffs of it now and then and it reminds me strikingly of certain people.

It is very sexy, and reminds me childhood. I love it, but it is very expensive in my country.

I used it once before driving to work.disaster.had to open all windows (winter -not recommended).nauseating.

in my opionion this perfume is a love it or hate it! i read here that for some of you Angel reminds of Christmas... the same thing goes with me too ... lets say that this perfume was a gift from my ex-boyfriend for Christmas, around 8 years ago. i love the scent but never bought it afterwards... maybe when i'll finish all my perfumes i shall buy it again. it is true that is a strong perfume, but this means measuring how much you spay on.. even a light perfume can turn into a vulgar one if the quantity is way to much!
in my opionion, as i said about womanity too, it is a modern perfume, that has a strong personality. i think they don;t suit a very shy woman, quiet, with a calm temperament. it is dinamic, it is strong, it is sexy!

There is just way too much going on here, I think there is such a thing as too much of a good thing. The dry down makes me feel kind of noxious like many other people on here.
Hey I am pro-chocolate don't get me wrong, but something funky is going on in the fragrance that makes the chocolate smell weird. And for a chocolate lover like me, the way the chocolate comes across is a big deal. I seriously wish I could just pick away a couple notes here and there on the layers to make it more appealing to me, I know it could be a winner. But sadly Angel is what Angel is. Not for me :(

Based on what people say about it I should like it but patchouli overpowers every other note.

nauseating. thick and sweet and powdery smells just rank. makes me think of scented lady 'products'. ugh.

I own just the lotion and find that it is just the right balance of the scent. Not too strong and not weak, but still noticeable. I can't believe the amount of people who dislike this, but it is a heady fragrance, so I can see why. I swear the lotion is much better and the staying power is incredible; you could probably forgo a shower the next day! I get lots of compliments when I wear this, mostly from other women, but a few men too. When I run out, I don't know if I'll repurchase because even the lotion is expensive to me. So sad, because I love to wear this in the winter months when it's dreary outside, it's quite an uplifting scent for me. So, we'll see.

I LOVE this perfume. However, it's VERY strong so only use it small amounts or it will suffocate you. Even though it starts off as being in your face, the drydown is a wonderful, soft gourmand.

More masculine then feminine I think the only thing that may add the female contrast is the berry notes at the beginning.

The same can be said for A*MEN which is more feminine then masculine with it over chocolate sweetness the only male contrast is the tar note at the beginning.

Two very unusual fragrances

I do find Angel to be a little too heavy for a ladies hand their nose can't smell it and just keep spraying more the next time. I could picture Snookie of the Jersey Shore or the Real Housewife's of the Jersey Shore wearing this and finding it classy. *shudder*

i had this perfume a long time ago.I agree that it's noticeable,oriental vanilla and a winter fragrance.It was one of my first serious perfumes that i had tried and i'll remember it forever.I think also that is a unique fragrance and it stands out but i do not know if i still like it.

Pretty nasty. I find the smell unbearable and nauseating.
I can not believe some people find this such a nice smell .

I have all of the perfumes from this line they all smell amazing on me :) im not a perfume guru or anything on describing them so i will just list a few that smell good on me incase you smell good in the same ones, Shalamar , Opium, delicias de cartier, amore amore cacharel:)

a very strong black licorice, cinnamon, patchouli start. it almost smelled like a chemical drain cleaner. dry down is much better. a sensual spice, powdery and distinct. its long lasting and i like it.

If you want a scent that is strong and in your face, a scent that will grab peoples attention wherever you are, then try Angel! It lasts all day & I can still smell it on my skin & clothes the next day. Its a beautiful, strong, gourmand scent.

If you are a patchouli hater, than stay far, far away from this scent. Patchouli haters smell this a mile away and gag. I love patchouli. Dirty, earthy, all-or-nothing hippie stench. That is the beauty of Angel. The sweet notes intertwine with the dirty patchouli..and voila'.......an Angel is born. I admit I HATED this scent the first time I smelled it about 5 years ago. I revisted Angel about two years ago, and I fell in love. It IS an acquired taste in scents. It's all wrong, yet, it is sooo right. It is contoversial. I have people at work who tell me it is the most perfect scent they have ever smelled, yet, others are closing doors so the scent does not linger into their room and suffocate them.

I've gone through more bottles of Angel than any other.

I remember getting this fragrance in college. Altough I found the scent enjoyable, it reminds me of a christmas tree! Pine needles! I could only wear this scent in the winter, close to the holidays

On me this scent smells like bug spray, cola syrup, and week-old cigarette butts. Unfortunately, it also smells this way on a friend of mine, who adores it. I had to know if what I smelled from her was the perfume or not, so I tried it, and I can honestly say I have never had such a strongly negative reaction to a perfume before! It's a disturbing blend of sweet and acrid that gave me a headache from the first whiff. But, aside from not liking it on me personally, the fragrance is FAR too strong... even a couple of drops had me nauseated, and even after rushing to the sink to wash it off, I could smell the phantom reek of it. I would hate to be trapped in an office, car, or small area with someone wearing it. I thought my friend was just wearing too much, but apparently only a little is extremely fragrant. If you can get this to smell good on you, one bottle should last a lifetime.

Only recently I had the chance to try one of the most controversial scents ever according to Fragrantica members opinions and reviews: Thierry Mugler fragrances are not that popular in my Country as they seem to be everywhere else, and - though Angel's bottle is one of those you just have to notice on stores shelves - I have rarely seen it around or I have probably been passing over it for years and years: until last month my mother told me the sales assistant had gifted her with a couple of samples, adding that she totally hated one of them: Angel.
So I immediately had to try it on myself, totally aware that I would have maybe disliked what I was about to smell: well.. ok, this is not my type of perfume of course, but it's neither that terrible, unpleasant or "beasty": it's just an incredibly unusual combination of tobacco, hot chocolate cupcakes still in the oven and God only knows what else.
Angel is just a name but not a substance in this case.

I am totally surprised about how many notes are listed above, because all I can smell after spraying is a DISTINCT AND LOUD note of burnt chocolate with some drops of honey left to melt above. Orchid? Jasmine? Coconut? I honestly can't detect any of them, though I love those notes and I can usually smell them clearly.
The drydown is again dark chocolate and tobacco for me, softened by hints of vanilla and amber: at least this fragrance will let me sleep peacefully tonight.
Definitely a cold winter's evenings fragrance for those who can tame this wild baby, revealing its angelic and provoking side: I am not sure I could.

(Once a friend of mine, who curiously loves this fragrance, made me try a hand-rolled cigarette with a chocolate flavored tobacco in: it was probably the best cigarette I've ever smoked, but I avoided to tell her it smelled exactly like Angel. So I wonder: does anybody know if Thierry Mugler is a smoker?)

Es uno de mis perfumes favoritos. Es dulce, intenso, original, diferente y me parece super sexy!Me encanta ponérmelo cuando voy arreglada con vestido y taconazos. Me huele a licor de chocolate, a vainilla, a frutitas dulces... mmm que rico!
Entiendo que a muchas personas no le agrade porque es un olor bastante peculiar y muy intenso. Yo aconsejo echar poca cantidad porque puede marear y agobiar a los que tenemos alrededor. Yo suelo echarme un "toque", o como mucho dos. El frasco es precioso!

A love it or hate it classic. What you need to know is this stuff is heavy. You can't just spritz it top to toe and go out, it kills you, it kills everyone around you. Applied correctly in small amounts, this is one potent, heavenly thing sure to seduce.

I may well be the first ever person to say this, but the staying power isn't that great on me. Nevertheless I love this fragrance; first time I bought it, it smelt awful on my skin and I gave the bottle away, but I'm glad I gave it a second chance. This time the chocolate and vanilla notes dry down to give way to the more floral ones on me and this smells most like the Pivoine (peony) version on my skin. I've also bought the body lotion to try layering for a longer effect. This is a classic, and a joy to smell on someone whose skin brings out the right notes.

Entiendo que tenga muchas fans pero lo siento, esto me da un terrible dolor de cabeza y es el segundo de los peores perfumes que he olido despues de amor amor de cacharel.

When I discovered the notes and mentioning as Milla Jovovich(my favorite supermodel/actress at the time)'s favorite fragrance in a magazine it peaked my gourmand interest. So much the first moment I came across a tester bottle I doused my wrist with the fragrance and boy was that a terrible idea!!! My noise was BURNING!! Too syrupy, too spicy, too chypre.... like two hippies wrestling in a chocolate sundae! My head was spinning! The combination is far too heavy to me as lighter fragrances are better suited for my body chemistry. After the traumatic experience years later a coworker began wearing the fragrance in the tiny office we worked in. Thankfully we had a chemical sensitive patient and she stopped but I held my nose every grueling moment!

I've had this for 8 months and I have trouble wearing it. I wish it was a little less dirty patchouli and a little more rose and vanilla. From the reviews I've read different notes come out on everyone it seems. I smell no chocolate, carmel, or sweet of any kind on me. I still said "I like it", but I barely do.

I keep looking over these notes and shaking my head. Looking at the notes, this seems like my perfect fragrance. Bergamot, rose, jasmine, dark chocolate, AND a heavy dose of vanilla? Sounds pretty perfect to me. But I have tried this again and again, and each time I'm truly nauseated. This scent punches me at the back of my throat and doesn't get any more appealing until several hours later. Personally, I don't want to wait that long for a fragrance to shape up and smell nice.

But I must congratulate anyone who wears this well, because it is a truly unique scent.

Gosh I am still trying to like this and its not working. It doesnt smell nice at all.

finally tried this (edp) for the first time last week, and I fail entirely to understand its appeal. on me it's cloying to the point of near asphyxiation, and I would've given anything to be able to remove it (but I wasn't in a position to do so); worse yet, it has incredible staying power and lasted a good 8+ hours. UGH! one of my friends described it as "cheap fruity-patchouli incense and bad candles," and that pretty much sums up my opinion of Angel. so sad.

and yet oddly enough I rather like its cousins Sunessence and Sunessence Ocean d'Argent, which are far less sickly sweet than the very disappointing original.

I personally don't like it because on me it doesn't smell right... and I hate perfumes that need a super long time for the base notes to come through. On other people Angel smells alright to me, there is the sweetness that I like a perfume for women to have but it's just "typical" it doesn't smell unique. I feel like alot of perfumes out for women now have the same sort of smell combos going on. The notes look different but they all have this similarity *I shrug my shoulders at Angel.

I love this! The first time I smelled it was in 1999 when I was working retail. I war working next to a department store, and I smelled it a few times on customers after they had just tried it on. I found out what it was, and wanted it for a long time.

It made me think of ballerinas! Back then, I didn't recognize any notes, I only knew I liked it very much. Now I at least know I like the patchouli, since I like it in general. I don't always like gourmands, however.

My husband loves it for the gourmand aspect of it. I have caught him spraying it just to smell it. My son says I smell nice when I wear it. I also got a compliment on it from a woman who asked what it was, had me write it down, and the next day she had gone out and bought it already! She said she loved how soft it smells.

It IS strong, I only wear one spray to the neck at a time, and mostly only in winter or cool weather. I also try to spray it early so that it softens before I am around other people.

Angel?! It's more like the Satan at his worst. Disgusting smell - suffocating, overpowering mix of something old, cheap, bad tasting and annoying, plus Raid or something like that. So far it's the most shocking and bad fragrance i've ever smelled. And the other shocking fact for me is that so many people like this and it's one of the best selling aromas. But you know - different people, different noses. That's why blind buys, best on reviews only, can be very bad choice. Because of this perfume, i usually avoid trying any fragrance by Thierry Mugler.

Well it goes straight into the hate category as far as I am concerned! almost dirty smelling! synthetic, loud, not in a good way!

Angel is unigue,sweet and elegrance perfume and long lsating more than 8 hours.Perfect for cool night time.The best bottle design.I buy it for my mom and she love it. And I think so.This is the best one from Thierry Mugler

I had a bottle of it when there weren't so many scents like this out. I got it as a birthday gift and liked it. By now I wouldn't want it anymore. There are so many gourmand scents out there that I got tired of this and currently I can't see myself wearing a gourmand. Angel is said to be a "copy" of Nirmala by Molinard. It's a good winter scent but you have to be careful with the dosis. I once remember going to the theater and having a lady sitting infront of me completely covered in Angel. I found that very nauseating. So please be careful and don't wear it in an overdose, especially in closed rooms, because other people want to breathe :)

Okay I get now . . . that love / hate relationship with this perfume. For me it is hate and I can't get it washed off of my had. : (

i don't smell ANY of these notes. honestly, all i smell are BURNT TIRES. nothing else

all I want to add-and I try to be unbiased here- is that I bathed, used a creamy showergel and I spent a couple of hours in a restaurant among lots of plates of food, and after I got home the scent was still there. it is more like a guarding angel... and maybe it is just me-or my natural scent, but this perfume added pretty much to my stability throughout the day. it is creating an organic tie with the wearer.the vanilla is still there, on my wrist and neck after a whole day has passed. this perfume has a perfect, intangible scent. i wouldn t call it sexy.

There is just no way I could ever wear this perfume. It's too strong,too sweet, almost suffocating. Besides I'm sure my partner would split up immediately if I'd spend money on this frag :-)
But seriously I think this is a perfume that could lead to a sudden loss of social contacts, it's just unbearable if you are no absoultely in love with it... and there will always be someone around who isn't.

I'm not really good at picking up notes but I think it's the chocolate-caramel base which makes it so unattractive to me. Nothing feminine or sophisticated about this one. It's just bang in your face from the first moment and it doesn't calm down.

Tested this today & Wow! this is powerful stuff indeed, this baby can pack a punch with the first sniff. This bottled beauty doesn't come cheap either which says alot for the quality. The potency is undeniable.Thierry Mugler can obviously demand respect in the perfume world with such masterpieces. That being said,with due respect this is still not everyones cup of tea. It's definitely one of those fragrances where a heavy hand is not welcome at all. So yes less is more with Angel. I most certainly appreciated the dry down which was to me silky & lush, soft as a cloud floating on a breeze. It lasted the whole day!!Yes it is definitely overwhelming at first even headache inducing if you dont go easy with this baby. This fragrance must be given a chance to develop on your skin to fully appreciate its true nature & the complexity of its many layers. So i will be saving up & purchasing a small bottle of this little controversy for a special occasion.

I wish I could make up my mind about this. I gave it a try this evening, as I have promised my bottle to a friend. I used just the tiniest amount, then wondered if I was doing the right thing to give it up as I really enjoyed the smell, but now, an hour or so later its soooo strong, I'm convinced its better off with my friend. Lovely, but just for a little while.

One word,HORRIBLE! This scent is too strong and is made up of too much dark chocolate ! Really bad and gives me a headache even after sniffing

A complex scent, chocolatey, fruity and vanillary. Very strong, very recogniseable- if you wear this everyone will know what you are wearing. I used to wear this until everyone else did too- was good for a while though but the affair is over.

This is a perfume I want to like because it has all the elements I like individually, yet somehow they combine in a way that makes me recoil in horror. I do quite like the initial burst of spice and I detect the underlying chocolate finish which would be pleasant if it wasn't hidden beneath what to me comes across as a cloud of noisy synthetic notes.

Ah well, each to his/her own.

after all the bad reviuws and all the talk about angel i almost did not dear to try it . but i bougth a bottle and i found that i have smelled this before ofcourse. i had a girlfriend back in the days , who wear this. i now recognice the perfume , i used to babysitt hear little daughter , and she smelled of this in the morning when she got to me .
and also did i own a duplicat cheap perfume , whit this topp note , and i liked it very much back then .

But now to the real Angel .
It starts of quite citrusy , alot like Inocent angel but only a little darker and stronger.I Love the start of it.

Then the heart starts to kick in , and at first i was not quite shore about this stage.. dark chocolate, Honey , mixed whit dryed Frut, i can smell the Jasmin in there aswell . but there is to much mixing to detect all the different notes , It has a little bit of a masculin sting to it , but im not shure what makes it feel that way.. But i like it .
and then when it settles , after a long time . the Tonka bean, Vanilla , Patcholi ,and Musk makes it stage , and leave the most delicios smell lingering on the skin ,in a Realy sexy and strong Feminin way.
And offcours this lasts and lasts forewer. I only need a little spritz , and it goes one for the whole dayeavning.
I realy love it .
(But i can also understand that many find this hard to wear , it is quite bold and strong .)
Finaly my Angel got to me:)

Everytime when I come to the store to pick up some new scents, consultancy try to sell it to me. No way! I don't know why, but it's too harsh, but in fact it shouldn't be, because "Angel" should be pure, innocent and clear. I agree that is the legendary parfume, but I can't understand that great success. Maybe in 90's it was a master piece, but now no. Few years later I'll try it again and, who knows, maybe I'll like it.

I absolutely LOVE THIS SCENT! It is my signature and I LOVE that some people HATE it! This is the only fragrance my husband has ever reacted to and he adores it to the exclusion of all others (the same way he feels about me)! Upon spraying there is an initial mentholated weirdness that quickly dissipates leaving behind a slice of cantaloupe covered in honey. It is sweet and has caramel and cotton candy through out. To me the dry down is the best part: patchouli and caramel! When I use a tiny bit it really smells like fresh clean laundry warmed by the sun! I can never pin this one down! I smell the sexy one time and the clean and comforting another! I have to say the body lotion really showcases the honey and melon combo that blows my mind hardly any patchouli and no weird menthol sensation in the nose that I believe are turning people off...Men love it and women seem to loathe it! Be prepared for that!

My only excuse for buying it was I had a head cold at the time. Lesson learned. It sat in my cupboard until I finally gave myself permission to throw it out.

I like strong perfume! But this was beyond strong and frankly smells worse than the fly spray I put on my horse. Wait, maybe I could have tried it for that! No, then I'd still have to smell it.

I put this right up there with Poison for worst fragrance on the planet.

Strong but magic and classic! Is very sexy and comfortable.

I have almost every item of the Angel line, including Eau de star. I almost never review Mugler, but I consider Mugler and Lempicka to be one of the few modern houses that deliver masterpiece after masterpiece. No short cuts and no low quality concentration.

But maybe we are so used to the light smell of modern perfumes nowadays that this type of oriental perfumes seem like from another time....long time ago!

Maybe that's why I love them so much..

When I first tested it, I thought the top notes were interesting...patchouli + warm, milky coconut and chocolate mix + apricots...not my cup of tea, but not bad either. After about an hour, I started to feel overwhelmed, the apricots started to ripen a little too quickly, the coconut slowly began to turn rancid, and the scent started to turn powdery/dusty, like old compact-powder...a chemical 'stink' like insecticide or moth balls began to emerge...while this is happening patchouli and milky chocolate are still happily (and quite loudly) lurking around in the background. Angel is the first and only scent to induce migraine attacks in me. It's not the patchoulli I find offensive, I enjoy the mixture of patchoulli and chocolate (Yves Rocher's Neonatura Cocoon is one of my favorites, it's like simplified Angel minus the unnecessary 'junk' notes)...In this scent, it's the over-ripe-fruits, the old-compact-powder-note and the 'moth-ball' note I can't take, I have no idea what particular combination of notes in Angel is doing this. It's not just my skin chemistry because I can smell the 'old-powder + mothball' note when its sprayed on the tester strip as well. My mom loved the scent when she smelled it on me though, so it must be my own nose.

Angel is my signature fragrance. Why?? I get more compliments on this one than any other I've ever worn(which is quite a few!) It was not instant love, however. When I first tried a tester, I walked away, thinking, this is strong and sort of weird! A few months later, I went to the same store and a salesgirl gave me a tiny sample spray to take home. A few days after that, I set up a budget to get the glamour bottle, lotion and bath gel. I was HOOKED and have been ever since. That was in 1999. I have gone through about ten bottles and have two collector's parfume bottles. My description of this scent?? A delicious, peachy, vanillay, caramelly,sexy concoction!! For those who don't like it-Please don't be jealous! The second I spray it on it's beautiful with my chemistry, it probably just doesn't work for you, and those you smell it on and findgit offensive, well, their chemistry isn't right for it, either. After 11 years with this fragrance, the love affair will probably last forver!! Of course you don't even need to ask, my husband loves it on me. Of course, I buy him Angel for men and make sure he doesn't run out!

Some people love it, the rest of the people hate it. There is no room for anything in between. Nice bottle and colour, though. A mini bottle was enough for me.

Skin chemistry is such a strange thing. I've smelled Angel being worn on friends and thought "wow", but on me it's just headache-inducing. The chocolate / caramel notes dominate on me. Worth trying though, if this suits you it will be a wonderful addition to your perfume collection!

Of course, one must always shine one's shoes 'for the fat lady' (Franny and Zooey, JD Salinger) and I do, at times, very much like the scent of shoe-polish.

Angel, to me, is a decent kitchen sink scent - a Kitchen Angel - and there is nothing wrong with that, I'm not joking.
A welcome variation on the traditional form of emigration from perfume wardrobe to toilet windowsill.

Angel melds very well with my chemistry. It seems to be one of those perfumes that smells amazing on some and terrible on others, based on the reviews. For all the foul smells mentioned by others (skunk, cat pee, rotten scents, etc.) and the other negative associations (strippers, slutty, overdone, dated, etc.) I am happy to say that I don't get any of those things from it. Maybe it's an age/generation thing - I wasn't really old enough in the 90s to remember a phase where everyone was wearing it. When I first tested Angel it did not smell familiar to me in the slightest. It's also rare that I smell this on others.

This is one of the sweetest perfumes I own by far, however there is something unique about it that makes it stand apart from the many ultra-sweet perfumes out there. Angel is all about the sweet, creamy honey, vanilla, and caramel along with some delectable earthy, fruity undertones. It is very dessert-like. While I don't want to smell like a dessert every day, I love having this in my collection as a cold-weather comfort scent. I don't get the messy patchouli scent that others describe. For me there is just a hint of something herbal to balance out the sweetness and it's very much in the background, not in-your-face as others describe.

I think part of the dislike for this fragrance comes from those who over-apply it. Given how strong Angel is, this is an easy mistake to make. One or two sprays is the absolute most you need, even for someone with perfume-eating skin like myself. Bottom line is that Angel needs to work with your chemistry and it needs to be applied lightly...in those circumstances, it is a heavenly scent!

Angel was one of the most groundbreaking and influential releases in the early 90's mass market perfumery. A magistrally creafted and very rich fruity gourmandic frangrance that became huge all over the world. Chocolate, coconut and candies with melon and mandarin on top and floral hints throughout. An unique combination of notes to create a deep, sweet and very distinctive scent awarded in the FIFI hall of fame in 1997.

Fortunately / unfortunately (depending on the point of view), Angel had an incredible commercial feedback so that in a certain period almost everybody used to wear it. In the mid 90's any bar, club, restaurant, disco or public space was filled by the loud smell of Angel as any girl /woman used it in huge amounts, so it fastly turned to be irritant and nauseating.

Now, after almost two decades, time has done its part and it seems that many persons forgot about this fragrance so that Angel can be worn again, but please ladies...be careful with dosage.

I gave it another chance. For me it initially smells like bitter chocolate and patchouli. Not a good combination, and very hard to get past the initial scent. It takes about half an hour for it to change on my skin, at first it brings out a spicy, woodsy note that I like even less with the chocolate and patchouli. Then it FINALLY begins to smell nice as the sweet notes start to emerge, backed by the spicy woods, and this I very much like. A really different scent for sure!

I HAVE TESTED ANGEL A THOUSAND TIMES AND THOUGH I LOVE IT ON OTHER PEOPLE I FOUND IT TOO STRONG FOR ME.
BUT THIS TIME I WANTED TO BE MORE PATIENT.
I HAVE BEEN WEARING IT FOR ALMOST A WEEK, WHICH IS A RECORD FOR ME SINCE I DON'T WEAR THE SAME PERFUME FOR MORE THAN TWO DAYS, AND I LIKE IT VERY MUCH.
I DON'T FEEL IT HAVING THAT MONSTROUS SILLAGE THAT IT HAS ON OTHERS BUT IT IS VERY LONG LASTING.
I GET SWEET FRUITS AND SPICES AT THE BEGINNING, THEN TONS OF PATCHOULI AND THEN I GET COTTON CANDY, CHOCOLATE, CARAMEL AND TONKA BEANS.
IT IS INTERESTING, COMPLEX ALMOST CHAOTIC.
NO ONE CAN CALL IT NICE, IT IS NOT NICE; IT IS A VULGAR AGGRESSIVE PERFUME, EXTREMELY SWEET NOT IN A VANILLIC WAY, AND SPICY.
IT IS AN ACQUIRED TASTE, NOT A PERFUME THAT YOU "LIKE" IN THE FIRST SNIFF.

ANGEL is not for everyone. For me its not always my "go-to fragrance" its something i wear rarely but when i do it never lets me down. Yes it is intense and totally obnoxious and in your face but the scent in itself is so bold and so interesting it makes up for its big-headedness. I honestly love the bottle itself more so than the actual fragrance, the bottle is just beautiful.

I really love this fragrance - Its very bold and slightly masculine. I get compliments everytime i wear it - the staying power is amazing. I definitely smell the dark chocolate a couple of hours into wearing it.

for me Angel is such a controversial fragrance..why all these negative comments?

It's strange how this perfumes changes on people and after seasons, i tried this perfume last summer and it was really hot outside ans i hated this perfume... but this week i went to smell perfumes and i wanted to give it a new chance., so i tried it again on my wrist and actually i felt something very pleasant like sweet caramel and vanilla but the only problem was that it was waay to strong.. i wish it wasn't that strong then i would by it :/

This is probably one of the most strangest scents I have tried. You either love it, hate it or are twisted up by whether you can make up your mind or not. It is NOT subtle in any way. I found it simply awful on me and the drydown had almost a skunk-like quality about it. I try to give all perfumes the benefit of the doubt, but I doubt I will ever try this again. One of the worst!!

Damn it, this one is too much.

I really don't care for this scent but I understand why others do. It is immensely interesting and sweet on first spritz and I kind of compare it to Lolita Lempicka, which I love, and isn't as sweet (on me). I have a friend who wears this regularly and she smells fantastic so I know it can be really beautiful on the right person.

THIS is the worst fragrance. It smells obnoxious "in your face". There is nothing classy about this it's too sweet and smells cheap. I can't believe this horrible scent is still being sold. When I smell this I immediately get a headache and my stomach feels sick. It's Satan in a bottle.

I bought this perfume because I knew other people that raved about it but I just never really liked it even though I tried. On me it smells really heavy and there's some kind of nasty smell in it - once my boss said "something smells like fly spray in here.' I stopped wearing it after that. It's a pity because i thought it would be amazing from the notes that are in it!

I can't beleive I did it again and bought my third bottle of Angel. I has to be either the name of the fragrance, the color of the liquid, or the shape of the bottle; or all three. I bought this fragrance two times before and two times I've given it away. I just bought my third bottle and I'm going to keep it this time; even if I have it almost full for ten or so years! There's a note in it that I don't like. I don't know what the note or perhaps, notes, are but something in the fragrance complexity annoys me. I don't understand it because after a while on my skin it feels rather comforting. I've worn it through all seasons and I like it.

I don't mind the actual scent of Angel at all, but the sillage? The sillage is a different matter entirely. I've smelled Angel on two different women in the last couple months, and I could smell them from 20-30 feet away. I'd say go easy on this one, but I don't think there's a way to turn Angel down from a high pitched scream. I guess that's supposed to be part of it's charm.

A very heavy scent, just like a 'cough syrup'. Actually I was expecting a girly,sweet,innocent fragrance however it just reminded me heavy, spicy male fragrances and it's too bitter... Pure disappointment for me, nothing "angelic"

I loved A*men's drydown but that tar note at the beginning lasted way long haha I tried the female's version and it smells fantastic! it's A*men minus the tar, this stuff is delicious ya'll just don't spray too much or wear to school or work. This is for the weekend warrior.

i was overwhelmed by its power first !
it was soo tempting, sweet and gorgeous that i just HAD to buy it ! i own just a hair perfume of this kind, but it is as strong as the "real" angel edp !!! ;)

it opens with a note of cotton candy as some of my friends say, but then it fades into this maybe fruity but just alluring wire, so called ;)

i don't know when it fades away at all, because i only sprinkle my hair with it ;) and everytime i move my head, the odor just envelopes me again ;)

but honestly, it's a bit too sweet, after some time you are just bored with the smell ;)

but it has become one of my favourites ;)

I've reviewed this perfume already but wanted to add to it. I didn't like this perfume on me, I thought it was way too strong, almost smelled like paint on me.. it was that bad. But the very same day I saw my boyfriend and he kept complimenting me on how nice I smelled. SO I had him smell my wrist where I had sprayed, and he jumped back, " no way, not that scent.. do you have anything else on.." and the truth was I didn't. From a distance I think that this scent smells good.. but if you smell directly on the location you sprayed, it's way too overpowering, which may be why I'm smelling myself and thinking, paint thinner! Morale of my story, I think it does smell good at a distance.. if you spray a little, not too much.. because I could tell my boyfriend liked this scent, it's just too strong up REAL close :)

Wow!! There is a lot of reviews of this perfume. I can really see its a love or hate one. I can see why peeps love it and some hate it. For me, personally, I LOVE it, when it is the right moment and sprayed on lightly. I love a little cloud of it in wintertime, when the air is crisp and cool and there is a lot of snow on the ground. It reminds me of something mysterious that a princess or even a wicked stepmom would wear. Its a monster perverse perfume. When I first smelled it years ago, I couldn't stop thinking "Is this a joke?"...but at the same time, I was drawn to it. I love the star shaped flacon and I dreamt of it for months until I had the money to buy it. And I couldn't stop smiling, when I put it on.
Its a heavy scent, that I just can't stop having in my collection. It reminds me of good times and parties. Many of my friends love this scent on me. But when they tried it them self, they all come to me and say, that it smelled so bad on them and the got a headace. I understand, that it has something to do with ur body chemistry and u really have to love the scent, to get the attention of it, as u might fantasize about. I think its a waste of time, getting this scent, if u are not into heavy scents at all.
I wouldn't wear this in the summertime, where the weather is humid. Then its way to strong and cloying. Even the summerversion of it, is to cloying to me.
It will always be a favorite of mine....if not my signature scent, then really close.

The first time I smelled Angel was in a duty-free shop while waiting for a flight, back around the time it was first released. I’m usually hesitant to spray perfume on myself blindly, so I always try it on a paper strip first. With Angel, however, as soon as I smelled it, I sprayed both my wrists, not caring how many people on the plane smelled it and cursed me. Little did I know that I would end up being one of those cursing people. It was love at first sniff that gradually turned into horror as I realized how incredibly strong the stuff is. I'll never forget that long flight with a near-lethal Angel overdose.

Angel starts off musky, fruity, white chocolate-y, and just generally weird but yummy. It’s extremely strong, but not overpowering if cautiously dabbed in one obscure spot. The combination of gourmand and musky notes is just perfect. There are a lot of fruit notes listed, but they seem to all merge together, creating a single fruit that, to my nose, is mostly tart apple. It’s a strange combination, apple, tonka, isobutavan, strong musk, and patchouli, but it’s unique and wonderful in its own eccentric way.

As the top notes dry down a little, the tonka becomes more prominent, and I think I catch a whiff of sandalwood. After 6 hours or so when the scent is fairly linear, it dries down into something that is mostly musk and sugar cookies.

Right after my experience in the duty-free shop, I bought a mini bottle of Angel, which I used for a while but became annoyed with because of the awkward star-shaped bottle that wouldn't stand up on its own. I ended up giving it to my mother who doused herself with it until it was gone. Now that I’ve revisited Angel after all these years, I think I may wear it on occasion (in moderation!), but will stick with sample vials because they're storable.

If you have not tried Angel, I would say that it's a must-sample.

Unfortunately, I always associate Angel with the smell of cigarette smoke. A friend of mine who's a smoker used to wear this---heavily. I did try it on me, and it just didn't work for me. I usually like sweet scents, but this one is too sweet even for me.

OHHH MY GOSH!!!!!!!!!!!!!please!!!!this perfume smell like a liqour and beer!!!i hate this sooo much..does`t smell sweet at all..

Perfume history period should be diveded into two separate eras : Before Angel and After Angel ... :)This is the most "unusual" scent , but in a wonderfull way !That's why , when i first sniffed it , it was such an overwhelming olfactory experience ! I felt it as being a powerful scent , but i couldn't identify any notes , just an astonishing scent , not too sweet but with a great power of diffusion. After half an hour , on my skin it develops into a fine smell which reminds me of my favourite pistachio ice-cream from my early childhood !This is divine ! I can detect some vanilla , then something like cotton candy smell , popcorn , hazlenuts and sweet , rosted , caramelised almonds ...My favourite universe !!...in fact , not too sweet because this sweetness is tempered by a scent which is not listed , but it reminds me of dried marjoram - an aromatic herb which in my country is used in cooking meals based on pork meat ...i know this may sound weird , but this is how i percive this most distinctive fragrance on earth !However , this is not a warm fragrance to me ; some notes makes it impersonal , cold , detached from the persons who wears it and it gives an aura of distinguished personality , almost unapproachable . It is very hard to describe the magical world this perfume creates around it ! Staying power is verrrrry long !! It is the best !!!

I want to love this perfume so much. I’m a gourmand lover when it comes to fragrances and I hear that Angel is like the mother to flowerbomb and L Lolita Lempicka so I thought wow, I’m really going to love this one.. but for some reason I’m not liking this. It is not smelling like cotton candy, chocolate or very sweet and gourmand to me. I do smell the vanilla coming out strong but it’s like battery acid. I’m so disappointed. But this perfume has such high ratings that I’m going to keep giving this one a chance. I hope it’s not me and I personally just can not wear this well. I’ll give this baby a little more time..

My husband loves it so much on me. Angel blends into green tea scent on me but the really sweet one, it's kinda hard to describe. I found Angel turned up vary on other people I know who are wearing it. Some are rocking the cotton-candy and others got the combination of the bergamot and the chocolate. I believe Angel is one of the perfumes that everyone should have in their cupboards xx

Angel is so unique that it´s understanding why it is a "love or hate" perfume. Anyway it´s certainly a head turner. The sillage is awesome and it´s noticeable that men usually love this scent.
I must say I´m not really able to describe it so well as I would like to. It is such a complex concoction that I can´t say when each note comes up. It seems to be linear on my skin, really. Jasmine, chocolate and caramel are quite evident all the time, but it´s sweetness is so uncommon that I got really surprised when I fisrt sniffed it. It´s not candied, but audacious and addictive.
At first I didn´t even know if I really liked it or not, maybe because of it´s strength. I actually adore it.

I absolutely love this perfume! Unfortunately, it is now sold EVERYWHERE, making it way too readily available for my taste. It is worn by everyone, including the lady behind my deli counter!

The worst thing about Angel - other than it's smell which I cannot abide (gives me a strobing headache at one whiff) - is the fact that a large number of the other new perfumes out there are trying to BE Angel.
You wander around giving bottles a sniff during your lunch break - and all you smell are perfumes to do their version of angel. What comes to mind immediatley - SJP's Lovely, Bodyshops Love ETC, Avon new york flowers...

It's like some shocking fashion that comes in -lets say: 'harem pants'- on the catwalk, and suddenly all the cheap shops are flooded with cheap and nasty harem pants. They suit almost no one, but everyone's suddenly in them. Angel is the catwalk harem pants of the perfume world.

Just cause you CAN wear it/copy it...doesn't mean you SHOULD!

I totally approve of Mulger and what they do with fragrance and how they are marketing weird, strange boutique type fragrances on the shelves of conservative department stores. Good on them! I only wish I'd been able to get a coffret of the perfume they did for the movie 'Perfume'!

I also approve of the fact that Angel broke the mould of the 90s oceanic dominated world, but then I have a bit of a cry, cause I totally hate the stuff and now i smell it everywhere.

WOW!!!!! such a wonderful scent, to me it smells like yummy chocolate, I love it! I have the body cream and it's just great, the cream it self is very pemparing but the scent lasts on your skin for hours and hours ( because the perfume is so expensive, I buy the cream and it's just as efective ) I get so many compliments from men and women.

It's far too devilish to be called Angel. The only purity in this perfume is pure gluttony. The more you inhale this syrupy,vanilla mist the more you need.

Angel has a strong presence and makes no excuses for leaving its mark. Its dense,vanilla,caramel,dark chocolate & tonka bean body, quickly followed by a burst of mouth watering berries, with a shout of orchid, lingers proudly long after your gone.

Not for the wall flower or faint hearted, it's for the vixen who's not afraid to be noticed.

I have Angel, but i love more the extrait .It is so much softer an nicer.I know it does not come cheap but it is so soft ,not sweet ,chocolate and all that yum edable smell.Also, it is good to spray(dab) once and light ....moderation is the KEY with Angel. I do recall when i first smelled it, i thought what a horrible smell. BUT, i was wrong when i try it and let it develop.I always get compliments on this one.I always have a bottle of it.

I got this perfume as my husband's gift for Christmas because he thought that it was a lovely seasonal choice, angel and all that. OMG he has turned me into a perfume addict! This Angel just freaked me out, I had never smelled a perfume like it before in my life. It's wonderful, from the minute it goes on me I feel as happy as a kid in a sweet shop. It's full of wicked-dessert smells. It's a piggy feast of hot chocolate and almond paste and other stuff.

Now that I realise the possibilities of perfume I have tried others but so far nothing comes up to this one, it will always be The Special One for me.

I like Angel a lot, but I don't know if anyone else notices, it smells a little like Hypnose by Lancome. Other than that, I still love this perfume.

I wanted to like this perfume since one of my closest friends in middle school used to wear it and I thought it smelled so clean and fresh on her. I tried it on and wow. This did not smell anything like I remember. Its too strong and musky. Also it does NOT die down. This fragrance stays put and smells the same from the moment you spray until the moment you take a shower. It didnt melt into my skin like I like fragrances to do and its harsh. After a few hours I had a MAJOR headache and couldnt figure out why until I remembered the GAWD awful perfume I had tested. Also my boyfriend agreed that it was awful. TRY THIS ON FIRST LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!

Since I can't add another balloon to Lapurria's review, I'll compliment her for putting into words what I couldn't have. I wore just one drop a few evenings ago and I promise you, I felt gaceful and beautiful sitting across my husband at dinner.

Beauty, or is it Happiness in a bottle?

A pefume that I always go back to. There are very few perfumes that are a reapeat purchse but Angel is a must have. It evokes such a comforting and sexy aroma that you can't help but to keep smelling it. I always get compliments and the scent lasts the longest of any fragrance I have ever owned. Just an amazing and beautifully constructed fragrance.

Tigerlillian and Jolielady have already stated that the first whiff is a hurdle to the lovely part of Angel. It took me two hours to get there while enduring an intense smoky assault of sweet incense mixed with bitter burnt chocolate. It reminded me of cheap men's cologne. I could taste it in the back of my throat, cloying. All this from one spray out of a tester.

And then magic happened. Suddenly the smoky bomb dissipated leaving a cloud of pillowy creamy goodness. I couldn't begin to tell you all the fruits and flowers which made up the heavenly aroma wafting around me. Was it possible to inhale the skin off my arm? As I reveled in the World of Angel I noticed the sinus headache blooming behind one eye. Drat. Much to my surprise and relief it passed within an hour and I went back to the Happy Place.

10 hours later there was still ample scent clinging to my skin but it had morphed back to men's fragrance. Sigh.

Clearly my nose and body chemistry aren't simpatico with Angel. But I'll always have those few hours of olfactory bliss.

(I had sampled other Angel incarnations first [Sunessence, Alien, Jardin d'Etoiles--Violet, Lily, and Peony] and found them overwhelmingly masculine, having to wash them off within 10 minutes. The initial blasts were brutally cloying, tasting them in my mouth. I can only conclude that Mugler creations are not for me.)

Quite honestly, the list of notes sound delectable. So, reviews and biases aside, the opening really wasn't what I expected.

Melon and cassia (cinnamon) in my mind seem to be an unusual combination though. Mash that down in a mortar with a handful of dank patchouli and I get something akin to underripe and oversteamed artichokes. Really jarring and vegetal to my senses, like a bracing mouthful of bitterly stale Italian herbs that literally gave my tastebuds--not to mention the rest of my body--prickly heat. But perhaps that is what the intention is.

I couldn't get past the loud and lingering intrusion to really appreciate the heart notes.

However... the drydown is like a sweet, intoxicating drug. Incredibly infectious in a loudly whispered "eat me" kind of way.

Goodness knows why this is called 'Angel.' This fragrance is more of an allusion to Alexander Pope's sylph: a mythological creature that was once a woman full of spleen and vanity who upon death could not ascend to the skies because her spirit is too full of dark vapors.

And frankly, I think it's one fragrance that my husband would really enjoy me wearing in private as it does create involuntary physical responses!

A few months ago I was at a supermarket & asked the girl serving me if she was wearing Angel. She was surprised that someone knew what it was. Her work colleagues had often asked her what she was wearing. She'd sweetly reply "that's just what I smell like". More recently I visited a friend & after an hour or more she looked directly at me, then told me how good I smelled. Yes, Angel again. You see, not all of us wear it badly. Or announce our arrival from a distance of one kilometre. With people dizzy & gagging, dialling emergency services... Some of us recognise Angel's strength during the process called "breathing". Also by reading the words "eau de parfum", like, "Ohhh, not EDT?" The dead give-away when it comes to recognising how much fragrance is too much is when you need to open the window to be near yourself. Many fragrances are over-powering if used liberally. I have some very STRONG perfume memories, involving LouLou, Rive Gauche, Beautiful, Macho (yes, Macho!) & others I can't name. I have been assaulted many, many times. But who isn't guilty of committing perfume assault? Angel cannot help the crimes of its wearers, now can it? But if you think the existence of Angel itself is a crime, hmmm... Well, I LOVE you Angel! Worn occasionally & in moderation, we remain close, & I can still afford to eat.

The secret of enjoying the legendary Angel is to get past the first bold clash of pot pourri with a big gorgeous dessert trolley! If I give it 15 minutes it has settled into a heavenly mix of buttery warm toffee and marzipan, still with some pot pourri going on.It sounds wierd but it is great.

On cold days it makes feel as if I'm wearing a warm invisible magic cloak of fragrance.

Give Angel a chance and it will soon wrap its lovely wings around you and win you over.

Angel sounds just like a perfume I would like. The notes in it, the type of perfume, it should be a hit! People who like the same perfumes as I do tend to like it, but I think it's horrible.
I've tried it before, disliked it (MUCH so), but after reading about it here I decided to give it another chance. I might have matured scent-wise...

The top notes are just WAY too sweet, in a rotten, choking way, with no hints of any of the notes, just a massive wall of nauseating, food-like sweetness. And I normally like scents that are over the top sweet!
However, after a couple of hours, I actually began to quite want the whiffs of Angel that encountered my nose as soon as I moved. A big improvement.
And eventually I was sniffing my wrist with quite a load of pleasure, it's got a beautiful vanilla/caramel base.
Very long lasting, amazing sillage. It's a shame I don't like the top notes. I think it must be a case of VERY bad chemistry with my skin. Sigh.
If I ever get a Mugler scent, it will be Alien (I think they've mixed up the names of those two btw, I'd definitely have called Angel Alien and Alien Angel, if it had been up to me), it's much more ordinary but quite gorgeous on my skin (interesting to read the reviews of Angel vs Alien, it seems like you either mix well with Alien or with Angel, chemistry-wise...).

This is INCREDIBLE. I remember spraying some on a card back in the mid-90's when I was a little girl and thought the bottle was pretty, but hated the juice that came out.
Thankfully, my nose has certainly matured, as I bought a 1.5ml spray sample on eBay and gave it another go. This is my new signature fragrance! I won't deny that I'm the kind of girl who loves 'headachey' scents but while Angel certainly is powerful and awe-inspiring, it's not so strong as to induce even a hint of a headache - not on me, anyway. Maybe it just works well with my personal chemistry!
It's sweet, it's delicious, it would be so perfect for a night out but is light enough for daytime wear. I am so in love!
Does anybody else get a distinct 'toothpaste' note? I was surprised to find that spearmint or peppermint wasn't listed because in the middle notes, I am getting a VERY big whiff of Colgate! It's not a bad thing - takes the edge off the fruity and floral notes and the minty note is softened by the sugary scent... the drydown is much more caramel, musk and vanilla on me. Delicious.
A definite firm favourite, and thank God Valentines' Day is just around the corner - now my husband doesn't even have to think about what to buy me! Will definitely have to try all the flankers and now Alien is at the top of my 'must-try' list :)

ETA: I went out and bought this for myself - I couldn't wait for my husband to get around to it! It is adorable on me, and is now pretty much my signature scent. I can wear it day or night and it's always sweet, feminine and the drydown is pure caramel and chocolate with a touch of vanilla and musk - dreamy! It doesn't appear to have great sillage on me, I get a whiff every now and then but it's definitely not overpowering the way lots of people say it is. Nowhere near the overwhelming presence of, say, Poison or Addict. It's a great 'go-to' fragrance on days when it's too warm for a really heavy scent, but I feel like something a little darker than the soapy Lolita Lempicka. It's definitely a 'love it or hate it' perfume, there's no sitting on the fence with this one, but I'm glad to say it just works on my skin and I'll never be without it again!

Why anybody would wear this is beyond me: I have tried it again and again (on skin) because it has such a devoted following. It gives me headaches and makes me claustrophobic, like it's closing in on me. The strongest, most unshakeable fragrance I've ever tried (and that is not a good thing in this context)

I love Angel. A friend gave me a sample of this last summer. It is definitely an evening scent and in my opinion maybe more for cooler months. Angel is bold which is why some people run from it. I will say that I have to be in the mood for it else it can turn me off too. It can smell like bug spray if I'm not in the mood.

I finally bought Angel last year and used it more than any other perfume that I own, and the reason why is simple, this scent is the BOMB. I love how Angel protects and literally shield the wearer. I think a lot of Angel’s love or hate rep has to do with people not trying it on their skin, and then skin chemistry. This is one fragrance that you can’t just smell on a paper strip, and it does react differently with skin believe it or not…On my skin it’s a gorgeous creamy and spicy oriental ( at least I've always thought Angel was an Oriental).

Nevertheless Angel has gourmand wings since she changes constantly, one minute it’s all about rain forest patchouli, then it morphs into hot dark chocolate. Next my nose detects vanilla, exotic coconut, red juicy berries, hints of peach and pineapple. Angel does smell a bit like cotton candy too. I love Angel, it's rich, complex and really fun to wear.

When this fragrance came out, it seemed like every girl wanted it, because it had chocolate in it! The fragrance lasts a long time and it is unmistakeable. It took me a little while too get used to it, but I like it. I dont wear it often, because it's really not for me, but it is unique and pretty. I'm surprised its an oriental, I don't get that out of it at all. I also can not smell the vanilla in it, must just be me. I can definitely smell all the other fruits in it. There is a nice balance and combination of many aroumas that I think other perfumers would not use, so I think that is cool. The bottle is a lay down, I have the big star and also a little bottle of it that stands up. I dont like the lay down design, and the color of it, light blue, that suggests a cool fragrance and Angel is definitely a warm. This scent is unmistakeable, and every fragrance he creates has a certain smell, no matter which fragrance it is, it has this one certain "warmth" character and you know its Thierry.

I found a tiny star shaped bottle of Angel for a very affordable price. I snapped it up. I am going to wear it with my French crochet sweater and darkest indigo jeans and invite my husband to dinner on Valentine's day.

Ridiculously popular in my country , i'm just not into it . Very innovative when it came out , but the problem is , it's too popular : Everyone owns it , everyone loves it .
You can smell it everywhere ! On the street , on the subway , on the ladies room , on the lift ... EVRYWHERE ! Girls try something new !!!
One other thing : it does not fit all ages ! One friend of mine who's beeen working in a perfume store told me that even grannies buy it , whereas it's more for younger women , and the conversation was like

I don't think it stinks, but really not for me , and very sweet , to sweet too "food smell".

If I feel this perfume, it is quite certain that I would be sick ...... too much of everything in it .... heavy, suffocating, too much of everything for my taste ...i dont like it at all...

When this perfume was first launched in 1992 I was walking through a department store in Sydney, and I was knocked out by what I thought was the most outrageous thing I ever smelled and I told myself that I hated it.
A couple of years ago, I smelled something divine (creamy, powdery, incensy ) on my sister in law, and to my utter astonishment, she said she was wearing Angel...well, I just had to have it too. I LOVE it now and it has steadily become my signature scent, along with all of it's flankers. I wear it anytime I want to, night or day, anytime of the year and it brings me a great sense of comfort, isn't it funny how tastes change!

Great bottle comes with Great Smell. Classic and Vulnerability Scent. It's very feminine but smell good on my X-BF skin!

Maybe it's mean to say I 'dislike' this fragrance. In my late teens I loved it, wore it every day, but now (31 years old), when I smell it on someone in the street, it is foul, too sweet, too obvious (there is no mistaking the smell of Angel), too synthetic and too strong (and I LOVE a proper heady-fragrance). My scent receptors must have changed a LOT in the last 13 years!

I am sorry but I cannot stand near any person wearing this perfume. For me it smells of vomit so I have always been curious about the ingredients... Interestingly, all the ingredients seem so juicy and delicious.I wonder what gives that sickening, vomit-like impression to my nose. Its way too heavy for me any time of the day... I would never purchase it.

Classic porn-star fragrance (so I hear).

This frag deserves a hat tip for originality and setting trends. One of the first "upmarket" fragrances I smelled (at the time, I knew nothing about indie/niche scents), I begged for her brother, A Men, for Christmas that year (2001 or so).

I'd never smelled anything like it. But as another reviewer kind of said: It's been almost 20 years since the launch of Angel. Please do not make it your signature fragrance! Much too recognizable. And even worse: Tacky, classless types of many stripes (see above) have hopped aboard the A-train.

I tested Angel multiple times because of the raves on here.. I don't understand how something can smell so different from what people are describing it to be. I really cannot get around to liking it. Does anyone else just smell incense with this fragrance?
I guess it's a good thing for me; I save money by not buying it.. :/

This i think will be my most favorite of all time for all my life, unless i get allergic to this perfume!
Since the first time i ever smelled it i fell in love with it and since then it is a must have for me!!!
I cannot describe what i feel when i am wearing this perfume: it is enourmous happinies and sexiness. I am feeling desirable and often get compliments! it is my signature scent! But only for fall-winter time when it is not raining! Because humidity changes the scent of Angel! You know what? i even quited smoking because smoke and Angel didn´t fit well together.
This is such a unique fragrance that is instantly recognizible everywhere! A true statemnet and i think it is also a bit risky. It lasts and lasts and lasts.
Hope this one will never be discontinued!
Also i am glad that this is a quite expensive fragrance, so in some way it is also exclusive, because not everyone can afford it.

I have loved this scent from the first moment that I applied it, but I definitely understand how it comes off as offensive to some. I sat in front of someone wearing Angel, and I smelled urine. It is not a fragrance that agrees with everyone's chemisty.

Sometime back in the 90's, a test spray put me off so I thought, "never!" Today, WOW!!! What changed?

Have washed my hands at least four times since testing, and it's still there five hours later. I can't stop sniffing my wrist. Earlier today I decided I had enough scents, no more needed. But then, I could fall off the perfume wagon over this one.

Well, I was sure that I will love ANGEL. I love sweet gourmand perfumes and I love strong perfumes. How could I possibly not like this? So I went ahead and got a full bottle. OH MY! I was definitely not prepared for this. Thierry must have sense of humor to call this “Angel”.

At first I was greeted with the dirty cassia and bergamot mixed with the overload of sugar (cotton candy) and overripe fruits. I am sorry if I am going to hurt feelings but this smell is repugnant and horrid. Then the scent brought forward the burnt fruit jam. Not just a little bit burnt but it smelt like the pot was left for hours to burn on the stove as the fruits were slowly dying in the vicious stew. Next the medicinal patchouli started creeping in and mingling with the honey and flowers in a very creepy and unnatural way. This horrid stage continued for about 15-20 minutes on me. After that I finally started to see the light. The ANGEL became more bearable on my skin as the notes settled in, combined and the dark chocolate started surfacing. The amber and patchouli were strong and with a sexy touch in the dry down. The dark chocolate and caramel were decadent and sinuous in this fragrance. At the end the dry down was quite lovely on me.

This perfume has to be one of the most disharmonious concoctions I have tried so far. I am very opened minded but I cannot wear this perfume because of its brutal beginning. I love the dry down but I am afraid I will not survive through the first stages every time I wear this.

I remember reading a fairy tale in my childhood where the beautiful princess was turned into an old and ugly woman and she had to go through this ordeal of drinking horrid magic potions and diving into steaming pot of repugnant liquid to come out beautiful again. The moral of the story was that you have to go through the hardships in life to get to the good things. But let’s be honest I do not think that this should apply to perfumes.

My relationship with this fume was love at first spray.For many years I never tested it, may be I thought it was extremely popular.It was only enough one try to fall in love whith it.
The dominant notes on my skin are honey and patchouli.

I find it hard to belive that this fragrance is so popular. Judging by the reviews I would say its the least popular.. Where are all the people that like this?

I first sprayed this when I was 11 or 12 years old. I was at a department store, and intrigued by the bottle so I decided to give it a spray. Up until this day I still remember the repulsive mist that came out of that bottle and how quickly I put it back on the counter.

The still remember that sickly sweet/strange and disturbing smell. I belive that this is just too much sweet notes mixed together.

Something is wrong with this scent thats for sure.

Aww the ever popular Angel. Being new to the world of perfumes, I never smelled it or even heard of it! Tragedy, I know. So when I got my sample in the mail, I literally couldn't wait to try it on. It seems to be one of those perfumes that you love or hate, no medium ground. So I was interested to see what side of the fence I was on.

First spritz: smelled like cleaning solution.
15 minutes later: smelled like men's cologne mixed with cleaning solution.
1 minute later: washed it off with soap.

I couldn't detect any notes in here at all, just a big jumbled mess. This literally smells like something you use to clean the bathroom with.

The good thing is I know what side of the fence I sit on now. :-/

Angel is OK, I bought this perfume when I walked by the sales clerk in Belk. I know they wear perfume to advertise, it was outstanding on her. I must say, I can't wear it as well as she did. Wish it was that good on me. It tends to have a few base notes like Pleasures Delight, however it does not work with my chemistery as well as Pleasures. Oh well!

Sensual, but too much of...everything.

Angel was my X-mas gift in 1997 - predictable thing - because it was such a hit then, every second girl wore it. And I prefer perfume to be my little secret that no one can tell what I'm wearing. Ok, Angel was sweet and warm. But it didn't take any special place in my heart. Now it's 2011 and I can't believe a lot of women still wear it as their everyday frag! It's just too recognizable, too penetrating. I find it obsessive and boring.

disgusting. my mom use to have, and i hate it! it gives me a headache everytime i smell it. reminds me of a toilet spray.

the pachouli note was so strong when i first tried it os me. i hated it but as hours were passing by, some kind of metamorphosis happened and really capivated me.

I first smelled this about 2 years ago on a friend and hated it...It gave me a headache. This fall, I went to a beauty shop and because I've been always a fan of Alien, I decided to smell Angel again...The irony is that the next fragrance I've got was Angel. I fell in love that day. Now I keep it only for special occasions because it's such a special perfume and I think that for this time of the year with the Christmas and NYE it's a perfect fragrance.

This is a very yummy winter perfume, defiantly can give you a sugar fix. In whole I really like this sent yet I do find it a bit over powering, one spray is more than required for a day. I have the eau de Parfum though so will try the eau de toilette version. Also the patchouli note is a bit strong for my taste but all-around a very well made perfume. Defiantly an olfactory masterpiece in my book.

I was able to wrangle a sample of this from a department store and finally got around to trying it today. I was really curious to see if my thoughts had changed any since the last time I was able to experience this perfume. Reading the notes above one would expect some sweet candyish gormand perfume. Don't be fooled by the notes. If you were hoping to smell cotton candy, caramel, cherries, berries and peaches, you will be sadly disappointed. HOWEVER,
what you will smell is wonderful. I get fresh, fresh patchouli and a dark minty chocolate. There is also some vanilla that lays low. The patchouli is not harsh or brash but elegantly bold. It has a leafy freshness to it, as if it were growing in a rainforest after a storm. It's very powerful in strength, bold but not rude. To me, it is only slightly sweet, certainly not over the top. Apparently all the sugared ingredients have been tamed by the woodsy patchouli. They are hovering in the background a little afraid to take a step forward.
I like this because it is a new take on freshness to me. Woodsy yet feminine.

WHAT is there to NOT love about this perfume.. I wonder? I am so sorry for those who do not like or hate this perfume.. But that is the price that a perfume must pay for being so unique that it hurts the heart and nose.. For all those who do love this beautiful masterpiece, Kudos to you, for discovering one of the perfumery world's most coveted fragrance.

Its notes, all of its top, middle and base is a unique body, each dramatic in its own accord yet smoothly dancing harmoniously along with each other... Its the Scarlett O'Hara of perfumes, a strong willed, steel magnolia sort or perfume. That teases and then outright demands attention..

The perfume is so out of this world, my friend once smelled metals in it.. and somehow, I quite agree.. Its sweet to the point its not innocent. Queer how that becomes, but I am certainly not complaining. If I were to have one lady wear it, it would be Elizabeth Taylor back in the 60s. Brave and the whole deal of I don't give a damn attitude prevails from this perfume. The type of perfume that does not have the term NO in its vocab.

Overall, it is NOT a perfume for everyone, as it can be seen.. You have to either love or hate it.. And for that, you would have to know something very important. And that being, you have to know who you are really at the core of it all. Because the answer to that Question will lead to whether you love Angel or you hate Angel. Or more appropriately whether You are Angel or not...

After trying Angel I've found out I enjoy gourmands on women, and I like them very much so on my own scents, as long as they are subtle.
What a nuclear scent.

The good
People turned around and stared at me when I sprayed it. Pretty crazy stuff. It can probably be smelled on the other side of the street.
It kept getting better and better and the drydown was lovely: rather tame, average sillage, and delicious.

The bad
Way too sweet for casual use.

The ugly
Way too loud to be worn in office, which limits its enjoyment.

It's said every perfume lover must smell both Angels, and I already did half of the work.

I remember the first time I smelled Angel. I thought it was devine , different from anything I had ever smelled and just plain unique. The lady at the counter gave me a little spray sample. By the time I finished it....... ughhhhh. All these years later I think it is the absolute most overworn , over commercialized , overrated perfume ever. Although I dont like Alien , I am glad it came out to maybe push Angel along its merry stinking way. And as far as men go......every man I know gags on a single whiff of this. My boyfriend actually made us change seats in the movie theatre because of a lady who had doused herself with Angel. Sorry Angel lovers , gotta tell the truth !

Tried this in Debenhams and thought it smelt like sell-by fairy cake. Awful.

Due to a wonderful ebay seller, i was able to try this in a sample set. Lotion, exfoliant, hair mist, perfume spray...i was so excited to receive it since there is nowhere in my town to try it. I was horrified...repulsed. I tried it during summer. I had never disliked a fragrance so much. As time passed, the changes of the seasons came. It is now winter. I tried it one evening before bed...just a light spray. It was okay. I awoke in the morning, could still smell the scent...and was hooked. It was as if it went throught a metamorphosis. I am in love, i am hooked. Such a lovely scent that warms up the senses during the winter season. Very elegant and even though ive read, very popular, i still think it is unique. I am anxiously waiting for my bottle in the mail and savoring my samples. It brings forth a sense of confidence and sophistication....absolutely wonderful!

I have received my Angel...and i'm still in love. I even ordered a mini lotion to wear to sleep at night when i need to calm down. Something about Angel soothes my soul no matter how aggresive it may be to some. It blends beautifully with my chemistry...i hope this bond will last for a long time...

It is finally time to talk about Angel.
Firstly i tried the shower gel. It was like a cold and refreshing smell.
Then i got the perfume. First trying it, it was difficult to understand it. At fist cold, strange heavy smell. After a while it turns sweet, and if you overdo it it could become toooooo sweet!
I like wearing it inside of my hands, rarely behind my ears because it brings me a headache. But still a small portion of Angel is enough to seduce your man!
I like the beautifull bottle and the fact that it is resourcable.
I haven't tried wet any other versions of Angel.
It is a winter perfume ,recognizable and unfortunately overused.

A great fragrance, similar to AMen in composition, but I think Amen has the edge. Women could wear Amen too in my opinion. Angel is an excellent smell and longevity and sillage is great!

I respect Angel, appreciate it and all it's complexity, and the nose behind it for their inovation. However, I can't get over the patchouli overload, and my chemistry loves the stuff. I do not get any of the choclate, coconut, or sweet notes listed. It's all patchouli... and something animalistic.

It is very masculine and brash. I think a man can wear this just fine. That first intial spritz could make a person gag, and for that reason you'd have to spray this at least a good hour or more before you leave the house. You might seriously offend some people. So please wear this one with care and extreme moderation!

It's kinda fairy tale for me... As I had tried my sister's Angel many years ago I consider it as a sexiest and unique fragrance in the world. "Flash-and-seduction" as I call it, wich sends me alot of compliments from both men and women.. I can't wear it with a casual style of course, but as for some special events it's the best jewelry.

I had to come back with a changed perception of Angel. Its pretty clear people would go outta their way to criticize this powerhouse. I too am one of those who does not have the patience of a rock. But a rock would agree that Angel is THE only fragrance that can last forever. It metamorphoses from a diabolical brown into a heavenly blue. Just like what happens to humans going from life to after death ! A humbling experience Mr. TM.

Definetely a masterpiece. I looooove this scent so much... Great sillage, it stays forever on my skin, awesome drydown... Truly beautiful. *-*

Time warp. This fragrance and it's cousins such as Alien and the other Angel spin-offs are really doing well at the stores. I can tell because living in New York City when the winter hits you smell this constantly. So much for the unique woman. I'm now 28 and when I was 16 and in high school I remember the most popular girl in school wearing this. It was her moms bottle and we simply assumed this is what powerful, popular girls wore. She created a firestorm at Christmastime, prompting all of us to go home and ask our parents for an $85 bottle of perfume for under the tree.

Not to mention that middle school/high school girls seem a little young for this fragrance. We liked it because A. the girl that wore it was practically an angel/goddess of our school and B.It made us feel oh-so-grownup. Now I feel like I'm a little too old for it and only at 28. It's a fickle fragrance age issue with Angel that I can't seem to get over.

I burnt myself out on this fragrance and am turned off by the fact that everyone seems to wear it now but this does not mean it isn't a great scent. A patchouli-choco-vanilla combo makes this a very unique fragrance and the lasting power is something to brag about. I think most people grow immune to it's smell and over spray themselves with it - which is probably what is causing the Manhattan Angel outbreak. I think one simple spray and a woman is ready to go.

Cheers to the company for getting a unique scent, one hell of a marketing campaign and creating a really pretty bottle for it. I won't wear it anymore but it really is a great fragrance.

I've always thought Angel was a really lovely and luxurious scent. It wears down beautifully into a gentle tonka bean/chocolate/amber. Something about it has an earthy, mossy quality as well. I always think there is a hint of pineapple in there, although I don't believe that technically there is supposed to be any pineapple in it. But the opening note has a crisp, tangy scent. Must be the mandarine orange. In the heart I can smell cotton candy, fruit, and honey.

I think this perfume can work for a woman of any age. The only thing I want to advise is not to put on too much because it's very potent and has serious staying power! But I love that about it!

Oh man, how I would like to see the beauty in Angel that everybody talks about working on my skin! This perfume on me works depending on the weather. I tested it in the summer and it was overly sweet, the jasmin was awfull.
Now in the winter, I "like" Angel. On my skin is a nice floral fruity gourmand, with the bergamot taking the front lead, the flowers are just behind singing a really light beautifull song. On the backstage the chocolate and the honey suckle scream for their place on stage.
Absolutly powdery, with a little freshness/acid note from the berries.
I think Angel is a summer perfume for exuberant ladys that want to stand out,and a winter fragrance for ladys who like sweet scents but with some class.
I believe some fans here kind of over reacted with this perfume. I personally dont think its something special (on skin). Far far away from the idea of sexy. I think if Angel had a pepper note it might be called a sexy perfume, but (please dont kill me) like this its just a flat, boring vanilla sweet perfume (still talking about the top notes on skin).
I think it was made to be weared on summer, it can really stand out, in winter its nice but "baah", on the other hand the notes are more perceptible on winter.
For me Angel is that kind of perfume that has more fame than actually a good smell. There are way more beautifull sweet vanillas on the market, and with a more reasonable price, 140£ to 100ml for this?!
I like it but it's nothing special to me. I prefer Alien or even the so controversial Womanity on my skin.

UPDATE: I've been wearing this all day, and the drydown is the most sluty and cheap scent I've ever used. It reminds me of the smell of a cheap motel prostitute in the morning after all clients have left.
The woman is exausted, with a sweet and sweaty smell sticked in her skin, the make up is all blured and the sheets are still warm. She wants to get up to take a shower, but she cants, mixed fluids are going down her legs but she dont care.
Dead flowers lye on the table and a box of caramel chocolates (all skwatched and dated)is negligently on the floor. After a while she lights a cigarette and then falls asleep, numb.
This is Angel drydown. Do I love the concept? Hell yeah. Do I want to use it on my skin: No thank you :) Now I got why so many "serious" ladys wear this :) I'm offcially a fan.

Had a chance to try Angel 5 times. I just cannot understand... From the notes, this should be my signature perfume. But on the test strip and my skin, it smells like a nauseating "Off" insect repellant. I try and I try but I can't smell ANY of the notes listed, except after 2-3 hours of torturous stink, I end up with a heavy, musky vanilla/patchouli mess.

God I wish this worked for me. I'm shocked but pleased to see it's working for so many people however.

All I can recommend is that you don't buy this blind, based on the listed notes. I almost did. SO happy I didn't.

I think the name of this perfume is quite misleading. Such an earthy smell (patchouli) cannot belong to the heavens, can it?

My beloved Angel has turned from Angel to Devil. What once was the most heavenly scent on me, deep chocolate & vanilla spice caramel creme richness turned to stale raspberry filled doughnut and body odour .
Must be my body chemistry changed. Though I can still wear Angel La Part des Anges & Angel Liqueur and smell delicious.

Oh, how I hate Angel... It's like a nightmare from my middle school days in late 90s, when some fashionably brain-dead girls used to copycat each other by wearing all the same things: Tommy shirts, Barbour coats, Timberland boots, platinum blond hair in a high teased updo and Angel. They used to put Angel on so much that merely walking by them was a cause of suffocation. I still cannot like Angel, it's still incredibly overpowering to my now-older nose and I cannot bear to smell it enough to gather its notes. Though, if someone sprays this in a half-mile radius around you or someone wearing this walks by you, it's impossible to miss it. You just have to recognize Angel, it forces you to recognize it. It has a gorgeous bottle, but I have never smelled anything more unlike angel than this fragrance. Uh- definitely no.

I hate this. Almost since the beginning. I say "almost" because when it first came out I was intrigued. The bottle was stunningly beautiful and all the ad concept worked very well on me... and this should have put me suspicious! a lot of noise to be done around a weird perfume. The jus itself is so damn STRONG in any dose, just any tiny whif of this put my brain in dangerous mess. It's not stinking, crap or nasty. It's just obnoxious and nauseous because of its strength. Maybe the chocolate+honey+caramel+coconut+cotton candy... bleurg!
I don't think it's old-ladyish if the term has any sense. It's still kicking and modern, but heavy to bear.
Had this not be so successful, I could pass over, but for a few years before nuclear weapon Hypnotic Poison came out I've been slammed in my nose by many wearers and I think that many of them switch to Hypnotic Poison. These are nuclear weapons. Of course, wearers are so many that it would be difficult to track down a profile, but as a general rule in my experience all the Angel's wearers I came across I felt like invasive, aggressive, dominant (not in a good sense) women who left no space to others. Physically no space, all filled with their perfume.

Sorry to say, I can't help but think this smells very old-lady-ish. Perhaps for some it works better for others... or some people have the right kind of chemistry for it. I feel like I am trapped in a retirement home all day when it is on me.

Absolutely Awesome.When I think About the Word Perfume,I think About ANGEL Immediately. A UNFAILING Perfume. ANGEL is all about Maturity. Heady in a SPECIAL way.It Evokes a lot of Sweet memories for Dignified Ladies. Heavy, Sweet,Bold,Worldy,Provocative,Hot, Creamy,Complex and Classy.

It is not for a Hasty person because The opening notes is Harsh and Excessively Strong as It is a Shock to those used to wearing Light Fragrances but Please Wait Because Minute by Minute Creates a Glorious and Romantic scent.Totally If you are Lucky,it will dry down to a Lovely Creamy on your skin.

It hits you in a Numbing Wave and makes you feel Luxurious.The base notes is the best of it for me.This EVENING scents for a queen in SPECIAL occasions. Surely for WINTER . In my opinion It represents the Essence of Feminine Class.

Longevity?The best part ANGEL for me as It is Legendary on my skin.

I love Angel, I always have and always will, it is my favorite scent and I layer it because I absorb fragrance like a sponge. I love the chocolate notes and vanilla and I have a coworker that when I smell her I want to lick her skin. Fortunately I get the same reaction from men when I wear it. I am a large dynamic woman and know I need to wear similar scents, so my fragrances of choice are Opium, all the Poisons, Joy, Obsessions, Micheal Kors (original-for day) and in between oils from India such as Rose, Frankincense and Nag Champa as well as oils purchased in Egypt and Saudi Arabia.

It's summer, and you know what that means? I'll be wearing gigantic orientals, their sillage amplified by a quarter-inch of sweat. It's considered gauche to wear loud fragrances in summer, but I completely disagree; all the big orientals- Youth-Dew, Opium, Angel- seem positively designed for this kind of sweltering provocation. A good layer of sweat really brings out their "COME HITHER, YOU BIG MAN" qualities. Speaking of Angel, I think it might have surpassed Youth-Dew as my all-time favorite perfume. I got my star refilled at Nordstrom last week for the nice price of $45 and I've been wearing it continuously for the past week. It's just such an endlessly fascinating and disturbing fragrance, and it's impossible to categorize or understand. It was released in '92, well into the onset of what Chandler Burr calls the "anorexic oceanics of the 1990s", yet it is a throbbing, room-filling fuck-off power-woman scent in the 80's OpiumPoisonGiorgio style. It straddles the line between male and female despite being intended for and worn mainly by women; an ultra-femme pink cotton candy note is strangled to death before your eyes by a virile, throaty patchouli. It is one of the most successful perfumes in history and is available at Wal-Mart but it does not in any way comply with the American imperative to smell "clean"- in fact, it smells positively raunchy, as though body odor and sweet musky shit-stained panties were layered with rotting fruit and topped off with a post-apocalyptic stripper pole. Its advertising is counter-intuitive and designed to distract potential customers from what it ACTUALLY smells like; the packaging is light blue when the juice smells a sinister glittery brown. Sales-associates will inform dimwitted women that it smells of chocolates and sweets, when it smells of death and the infinite beyond. Ad copy refers to the "tender notes of Angel" and "memories of Thierry Mugler's childhood"; Angel wearers clearly lost their innocence LONG ago and now confront everyone they meet with the olfactory tenderness of snorting jagged shards of blue sugar glass. Angel is worn equally by conservative women (allegedly it is the signature scent of both Laura Bush and Hillary Clinton) and women of the night (numerous sources have told me of its popularity among erotic dancers). AND IT WAS A HUGE HIT! More disturbing is the nicotine-like addiction that Angel induces in the wearer, necessitating the purchase of (literally) hundreds of bizarrely named ancillary products ("Celestial Showers Gel"? "Perfuming Hair Mist"?) in an effort to preserve the scent on skin for the rest of your lifetime. The addictive part of Angel, the really good part, is that first blast of body odor and rotten fruit that fades within a few minutes, so the wearer is forced to continually reapply to get that kick. The more you wear it, the more you become anosmic to it, so you keep putting on layer upon layer upon layer, achieving a Baby Jane-like flaking pancake makeup effect and making you smell TRULY filthy, TRULY like you have been living on the streets and selling your unclean body for weeks. As Anais Reboux says to Roxane Mesquida at the beginning of Breillat's "Fat Girl", "You reek of loose morals." They have soda fountain-style REFILL STATIONS at all major department stores, for Christ's sake! I indulge in dreams of taking foot-tall Slurpee cups to Nordstrom and demanding that an effete, tittering male sales associate fill them to the brim, at gunpoint. How on earth did you get away with it, Mugler? Around the time of its release, sales associates were instructed to forcefully spray it on the arms of confused women, look directly in their trembling eyes, and tell them, mantra-like, "THIS IS A FRAGRANCE FOR A UNIQUE WOMAN. NO ONE ELSE WILL SMELL LIKE THIS. A UNIQUE, UNCOMPROMISING WOMAN WOULD WEAR THIS. IT IS UNLIKE ANYTHING ELSE". I'm not kidding, this is how it became a success. They still talk like that at the department stores, too, when they find out you're an Angel fan, in the thick, lascivious tone of a depraved Madame speaking to a whorehouse patron with particularly exotic, violent, and possibly illegal sexual tastes. They'll spray you with the latest seasonal version ("Angel Soleil au Fraiche Summer Fraicheur Energizing Oil Cream" or some such nonsense, available for a limited time only) and hold your arm with their lacquered dragon talons, hissing that there are LOTS of people out there who like Angel and you needn't feel guilty or immoral for it. AND IT WAS A HUGE HIT!

One of my best friends who happens to be a mortician told me an amazing and frightening story. While preparing a corpse for its funeral, she was handed a bottle of Angel and instructed to spray it all in and around the coffin because it was the deceased's favorite scent. Angel, which already smells of death, follows its wearers TO THE GRAVE.

Once I used to dislike Angel so much. The heavy patchouli in the top notes smothered me and I had to gasp for breath. That was then.

Now, heavy patchouli fragrances like Black Orchid and Dioressence have trained my nose and eventually Angel has grown on me; from dislike to acceptance and now love.

I have to add that my best friend told me in the 90's that she found my signature: Angel. I laughed at her at that time. Now I agree that Angel is wonderful (and I've told her that :)). Angel is exciting enough for me. It's not a signature, yet it is lovable. And today, I'm very charmed by it: from the heavy patchouli take off until it's fading away in sparkling sweetness in the end.

I purchased Angel after smelling it on a co-worker. It smelled divine on her - and sadly, it smelled like bug spray on me. On first spray, it was sweet and slightly musky, but within an hour, I was wondering who it was that had used too much cheap aftershave? Imagine my horror to find out it was I that smelled so badly. It wound up being cloying and masculine on me - too musky and oily, the kind of scent that sticks in your nostrils and is difficult to wash off. I recommend testing before you buy. I wound up giving my very expensive 50 ml spray away.

I obtained a sample of this, and have read "if you love Angel you will love Bond No 9 Nuits de Noho". Turns out I HATE Angel but LOVE Nuits de Noho. Angel has the most awful smell of bad body odor that lasts over an hour on me before it finally mellows out a bit. There is no way I am going to endure over an hour of stink for a so so scent that lasts more hours than I imagined possible on my skin. It must be the basenotes of patchouli and musk and who knows what else. It is intensely sweet, which in itself can be a little hard to take, but that does not account for the stench that reeks from my wrist (applied Very Sparingly). Too bad, Angel, I gladly return to my beloved Nuits de Noho that smells so divine on me, that I smile and drink in that glorious scent.

Be honest Angel, your dry-down is okayish, diabetic sweet, bluntly vanillic, BUT NOT WORTH GOING THROUGH 6 long hours of agony caused by, according to me, a horrid form of patchouli that's just like hydrochloric or sulphuric or nitric acid.. its like judgement day where the heaven follows after a long gruelling at the gates.

I have tested Angel on paper for a couple of times in the last 10+ years.
I always thought all the tester bottles were off as I thought there is no way one could feel urged to buy, wear and love this stuff when they just sniffed the tester.
Recently I tried one spritz of Angel on my wrist while on holiday and I am with fumine:
It is so unbelievably long lasting that I did not manage to get rid of the smell for 2 days.
I took 2 showers, a bath and several scrub attacks on my wrist to finally remove all of it.
The worst was the first night with a tiny trace of Angel left on my skin when my husband almost went bonkers trying to find out where the smell was coming from.
To me, this is the worst and most offensive smell (yes, smell, not scent) ever but I really do believe it must be my skin chemistry as apparently so many women wear it all the time and still I have never smelled it on anyone so far.
I am actually glad that it seems to work with other people's skin chemistry.
Anyway, I recently had a really funny moment with Angel when my husband was with me shopping in my fav perfume store.
He grabbed the Angel tester bottle and chased me around the store threatening to spray it!
Fortunately he did not spray it and therefore it was fun.

This was the first scent I ever bought as a teen. It has special memories for me and I still have my same star. I love the refill system that has always been available. Clarins wont reduce the Angel experience to notes and reveal what they really use in the scent to give its moxie, but it smells like every desert Ive ever eaten combined. Overkill is an understatement but none the less, I cant help but be in the right mood to wear it several times a year.

I owned Angel ten years ago and I was shocked by this sweetest scent which gave me headache for one week.

Tomorrow I sprayed it again,but......It still was horrible and horrible after I used hundreds of scents in this ten years.

The most stupid scent in the world.

I have had such funny experiences with this perfume. It really is one of my favorites, to me though not so much a vanilla as a spice. Anyway, every single time I wear it I will get at lease one comment from a female telling me how nice I smell and wondering what it is, many friends have smelt it on me and then bought it themselves. Other funny thing is my experience with men and this perfume. I am single and admittedly if I get a lot of comments from men about a perfume I usually find myself wearing it more or pretty much not at all depending on the comment. My exception to this has been Angel. Yesterday for example I was in my favorite perfume shop and a guy walked in and said he was buying a perfume for his girlfriend that she wanted and it was called Angel. I will still wear it, its one of my favorites!

Probably my most favoured perfume yet!!...i simply luv it..... costs quite a bit tho, but its worth it!

I adore Angel. For interest I tried D & G 10 and Wish Chopard. This really is not the same scent. Angel is the resoluteness more,more beautiful. I do not like moduluses,they others smell cheap.

I'm sorry this was the only perfume that I didn't dare to test on my skin so far. Thanks to the smell of candy + Shieldtox mosquito coil which I think probably comes from the mixture of patchouli and all the sweet notes available above. A big dislike for me.

I may have done a U turn on this fragrance so massive it can be seen from space!

Im really starting to enjoy it. That patchouli note is bizarre and daring.

this is really yummy, sexy and strong... perfect to use in winter, intensive burnt caramel, vanilla scent.. masterpiece and sofisticaded scent from Mugler....

I tried it on my wrist today, after 15 minutes I ran for the nearest bathroom because I couldn't stand the smell anymore. "Angel" is sickly sweet, like cheap vanilla and caramel mixed with honey.
I found nothing delicate or complex about this fragrance, instead it gave me a nice headache. The lasting power is incredible, I washed my wrist three times and I can still smell it.

It took me a while to put into words what I feel about Angel.
I often personify fragrances, that is, when I feel a scent, it conjures up an image of a person it would be in character with. Moreover, I often think of fragrances as personalities (you can be friends or enemies with them, they can have moods, they can entertain you, play with you or serve you a trick).
When I wear Angel, it is totally different. I can appreciate craftsmanship (one may call it beauty, but I call it industry). To me, there is no life in this fragrance, not even art. Pure technology. It’s like an impressively big shiny robot in the world of humans. So, when someone says that Angel is a love or hate fragrance, I always wonder, who is to be loved or hated here - one that does not even have a soul?

Angel is a very interesting scent to me. I keep finding myself flipping back and forth on enjoying and disliking this on my skin.

When I first sprayed I didn't enjoy Angel; I felt overwhelmed with patchouli and all the scents hitting me at once. It was strong, and loud! I never got any of the fruity top notes, I don't really remember any sweetness or fruitiness.

When the middle notes came through, again I couldn't pick out any the fruit (I will try again on skin to see if I can pick these out second time around paying more attention), but it had an enjoyable sweetness, and I could smell the lovely lilly, jasmine and rose.

When I got to the base notes, and still now a few hours later I get hints of tonka bean, amber and vanilla, patchouli, and musk, which mixes together to create such a lovely aroma! Every time I smell it's different, sometimes so sweet and almost edible with a hint of sweet fruit, then bit spicy and warm cozy, then fresh and powdery in a feminine way, then green and very patchouli!

I will definitely give another go and update on the top/middle notes, but I am loving the dry down and the adventure my nose gets with every sniff!

Angel was my signature scent for about three years. I loved its complexity and got so many compliments. Sadly, I can't wear it anymore because it reminds me too much of the relationship I was in at the time! I hope I can come back to this one at some point though because I love it so much!! Romantic, elegant, super-feminine.
