Honey and the Moon Fragrance Reviews

i was so excited to try the fabled tokyo milk spray after falling in love with their No. 82 soap. after finally finding a boutique which carried the spray, and found a variety of their classic scents. on me, "honey and the moon" smells sickeningly sweet and doesn't change much. i don't get any jasmine or sandalwood and the honey is almost rancid. as it dries down it goes more vanilla, but not enough to mellow out the honey. even though i dislike the scent and agree with luxatron about the "repulsive" feeling, the scent has way better throw than some other tokyo milk scents and would probably linger nicely on a sweater if you're into that sort of thing.

Normally I don't shy away from foody scents - I love the idea of being able to smell good enough to eat - but something about Honey and the Moon puts me off of wanting to spray this all over. While the perfume smells lovely in isolation, I feel almost repulsed by the idea of having others smell this all over me. You know that feeling where, after you spill something strongly scented, you get tired of that smell and even a little nauseated by it? Somehow, Honey and the Moon transports me to that repulsed state; its ultra-realistic, ultra-sugary, and ultra-strong scent makes me feel downright claustrophobic.

Honey and the Moon is an extremely sweet floral honey scent that, at least initially, is sure to please gourmand lovers. The opening of the perfume is straight-up honey and jasmine, with the honey note being very true to the real thing, and the jasmine being a very cleaned up, sweet, and non-indolic jasmine. As it dries, a lemon-honey scent begins to emerge, still on a backdrop of floral notes. The jasmine and floral notes in Honey and the Moon are identical to those in Tokyo Milk's Kabuki perfume, and this smells very much like Kabuki's less fruity sister.

Honey and the Moon is just *so* sweet that threatens to become cloying, although it never completely does. While I haven't gotten a headache from it yet, it makes me feel odd and unclean, like I've just spilled a jar of honey down my shirt. I get the feeling that this might become extremely cloying around others, so a very light hand is needed. While I think this combination of honey and jasmine smells beautiful, it's not how I'd like others to smell me.

I just received this yesterday and wore it to work today. I loved smelling the honey all day. I felt warm and relaxed. I can really only smell the honey and sandalwood but thats ok cause it smells delicious.

I have a 1oz bottle of this up for swap if anyone's interested.

A must have for honey lovers. I, unfortunately, am not one of them. In the bottle and wet this smells so beautiful. A masterful blend of violet, jasmine, and smokey sandalwood sweetend with honey.

But the honey takes over on the skin so those of you who are easily nauseous beware, the honey here warms and stays All. Day. Long. I suppose if you loved honey enough to hold it under your nose and smell nothing but honey all day then this is the holy grail for you. As for me, I grew out of smelling it after the first few seconds, and then I started to feel sick at how cloyingly sweet this is.

Too bad, had the violet, jasmine, and sandalwood been the main notes here and honey serve as a soft accent note, I may have fallen in love. As it is, I think I'll stick to keeping honey in my tea.

H&TM is pure, (almost) unadulterated, realistic honey, tempered slightly by soft floral (i'm not generally a floral fan) and very tempered by sandalwood. it's unlike anything i've ever smelled. and the price, at $28, is unbeatable (unless i could find it on sale, which i haven't been able to do, sadly). i'm a true gourmand fan, but i draw the line at syrup-y or teeny-bop sweetness. i do not find the slightest likeness to aquolina's pink sugar. my gourmand prefs are that it's balanced with something to dilute the sweetness. H&TM is my 2nd all-time fragrance in ANY category, easily defeating most mass-market scents (but my all-time #1 is ginestet botrytis). i tend toward l*ckscent or other more boutique-y type scents that i won't smell on anyone else (call me a snob!) and this is incredible stuff. i have gone through 4 bottles (that's no typo- FOUR!) in the last 6 months. i find that it's very soothing when i'm stressed or feeling blue....and the man just loves it.

Ahhh give me a non-patchouli gourmande any day! After all those bad encounters with perfumes like Angel, Wish, and Jo Malone's English Pear & Freesia that made me want to cry because of good fragrances being plagued by the evil Count Patchouli, this is a breath of fresh air! I got my bottle today morning and even smelling it out of the bottle, I knew I was in for a treat!

Smelling this up close on my wrist, (to my nose) there are some powdery and floral notes- which I assume are violet and jasmine. However, genuine-smelling/real honey (mixed with a bit of toffee/caramel) is the dominant note- yum! There is a slight similarity to Pink Sugar, but it's nowhere near as tooth-decay-inducing! I love sweet fragrances, but even I could not tolerate Pink Sugar very much! Drydown brought out the honey even more, and the overall smell is subtle- the floral notes are in the background. I don't see how this is a unisex fragrance, although it may easily smell tempting on a guy as well!

I think this scent could be worn during any season except for summer- it might smell a bit cloying then even though it does not smell cloying at all when the temperature is less than about 25 degrees celsius. Longevity was good with the perfume lasting about 7-8 hours on me. I had a shower and I can still smell the vestiges on sweet honey on me. This is easily a 'love'. : )

P.S. For those who can't find this (especially people living in countries other than America or Canada), there is one reputable eBay seller selling this (bella-kates-boutique) and many other Tokyo Milk products for affordable prices. There is another one there too, but their international postage options are inflexible and they are difficult to deal with.

honey and jasmine are very prominent. i get the violet a little bit after but the honey and jasmine are still present. it's a really yummy one for gourmand lovers!

This opens with purple clover honey - and it's spot on! I almost expected it to be sticky!
As it dries down, it becomes lemony honey - I'd almost expect it to sooth a sore throat!
Next, it smells like Froot Loop tree blossoms (yeah, I know there's no such thing as a Froot Loop tree, but if there was, THIS is what I'd imagine the blossoms to smell like!)
Finally, the sandalwood takes over and it smells lovely, musky (but not powdery) and "organic".

Warm and inviting all the way through!

I don't know how other to describe this than like the jar of chocolate honey my dad's friend left behind after visiting Pike Place Market! Its a warm soft floral with raw honey that just melts on your skin. I agree that its a little on the sweeter gourmand side (less sweet than Kabuki, more sweet than Let Them Eat Cake) but its a deliciously tolerable natural sweet that's totally unlike the artificial smelling Pink Sugar. I definitely see this alluring a man like mine with a sweet-tooth! Its mouthwatering, sexy, definitely makes a great nighttime dessert if you know what I mean!

This is balls out honey, chocolate and cream, with traces of darker violet, jasmine incense and soft musk. (There may be vanilla, but I'm hesitant to even mention it because when I think "vanilla musk," I want to gag, of course. This is nothing like that.)

It's warm, yummy, cozy, intimate. I think it's appropriate for summer or winter. I get compliments nearly every time I wear it, to the point where a friend told me she wanted to eat my arm!

Honey and the Moon, what a cute and intriguing name! I have wanted to try it just because of its name, thanks scorpiosheep for a lovely sample!

Honey and the Moon starts with real life honey plus humbler jasmine (the jasmine here smells really indistinguishable, and nothing like those heady strong ones from TM’s Alien) and a trace of sweet orange. It’s a quite promising start even though I haven’t paid much attention or loved the smell of honey, but when it’s in a perfume like this, I find actually honey smell is quite homely and soothing in a way and I kept smelling myself. It reminds me one of the By Killan scent which smells of honey, as well as a Chanel Le Exclusifs range really honey-smelling sent, not sure if it’s Beige, or something like that. I would say Tokyo Milk has totally nailed it, even better than those two houses, as Honey and the Moon makes me keep on sniffing without any unconscious rejection, or any slight doubt like “hmm, it’s nice, but…”.

Honey and the Moon develops quite linear, the only change is that the honey sweetness becomes more dominant as time pass by.

Wow, if I ever wanted a fragrance to smell exactly like honey, this is it!! Infact I felt like someone dumped a jar of honey over my head at first.. not a bad thing.. I love honey. If you don't enjoy eating honey you probably won't enjoy this perfume. It doesn't stay smelling only of honey though, I definetely smelled other notes coming out in this which I almost welcomed.. I ended up enjoying this scent immensely. VERY gourmand... if your boyfriend/husband likes honey.. beware!
Update: I dropped my bottle on the floor, it broke and now my wooden floor will probably smell like Tokyo Milk Honey and the Moon forever, unfortunately for me I can't wear it. I'm very sad :(

What an awesome blind buy...and for such a good price. The jasmine, honey, and sandlewood are really apparent, but violet kind of takes a back seat in this one. I would highly recommend this one....and I swear I smell chocolate and patchouli...

HONEY & LEMON HEAVEN!

This is so spot on. For those looking for a honey-dedicated perfume... look no further!

There used to be a honey body splash from Avon a couple of years back that I fell in love with because the scent was very accurate, but obviously because of its concentration, it had no lasting power. This is everthing I wanted that to be and more.

I surprisingly found a citrus opening, very refreshing, that quickly fades into the middle & drydown which don't change much from each other. It's all honey, with a hint of florals in the background! Pure 100% drizzled over warm skin honey! Yummmm

Honey is the essence of flowers, as is perfume. A logical pairing and the best made and most interesting of the Tokyo Milk perfumes: this one seems to be an attempt to make a "serious" perfume rather than their usual fun perfumes. The honey is beautifully done and well supported by the floral notes. This calls to mind the smell of opening a new jar of good clover honey without the sticky sweetness that you might expect.

I think some interesting tricks may have been done to create the honey since as the evening has gone on I've caught whiffs of vanilla, caramel and a soft citrus several times. (Note: I about drowned myself in this trying to determine if these notes were my imagination.)

There's something warm and drowsy about this scent and almost everyone has commented on the perfume bringing back memories. Considering the extremely reasonable price I recommend this one highly.

I would not have even looked sideways at this if it had remotely resembled Pink Sugar which I loathe. They are at opposite ends of the "sweetness" spectrum - Honey & the Moon smells very natural and rich while PS is pure chemical and sick-making. I highly recommend H&TM for a comforting sweet embrace. I'm loving it. I'm surprised that it actually doesn't feel sticky on your skin!

Wow, talk about honey. I love the smell of honey, but I am bummed because this perfume doesn't work for me. Once it wears down I don't like it so much. But I always got compliments on days I would wear it. Eventually I gave it away to someone who liked it better.

And wait a minute--unisex? Methinks not. Most men would never wear vanilla and honey, which I am grateful for, because I would not want them to wear it either.

I absolutely love, love, love this scent. I found it in a little boutique shop on a trip in Minneapolis, and I'm glad I splurged on it. When first applying it, it has a very sharp almost grassy scent, but it quickly mellows to a soft sweet fragrance that I can't get enough of. My only two wishes are that it came in a bigger bottle and that it didn't fade quite so quickly on me, but a purchase of a corresponding lotion like the burt's bees milk & honey might do the trick.

Honey and the Moon reminds me of those photos of the little girl on the swing hanging from the moon. It's a deep honey, a "noir" fragrance; there's nothing pink about it! (Cannot believe the comparisons to Pink Sugar!!!???) Pink Sugar is sticky sugary frosting. Honey and the moon is sticky gooey honey dripping from the comb. I suppose that's where the comparison comes in: they're both sticky and gooey. That's where it ends. Honey and the Moon is a grown up fragrance. Although it's classified here as a unisex fragrance, I find the honey and chocolate more suitable for females. Maybe that's just because I don't want to share it.

This is a fragrance that makes me happy that the weather is getting very chilly, and because I love it only when it's hot and sunny, this scent is a godsend. I dread cold so much, but the warm, snuggly nature of honey with a touch of grown-up spiciness is making this cold weather appealing. Honey and the Moon reminds me of Angel without the patchouli, and Angel Innocent without the intenser sweet notes. It is similar to Burt's Bees Milk and Honey lotion's scent, but without the lingering milkiness.

testing this scent on my wrist, i feel as if somebody smudged me with a spoonful of honey. The honey note is real as it can get; it's not aromatic and the flower notes enhance its sweetness. Suitable for cold winter days and nights.

This is the first honey fragrance I've actually bought. Very sweet, warm, and genuinely smells like honey without a plasticy or cat box-ish quality. One of the other notes (which I'm guessing is the violet) comes out smelling slightly like licorice on me, which I could do without, but that tends to dissipate after a little while and the honey and sandalwood feature more heavily. I couldn't smell the jasmine at first but it showed up in full force a couple of hours later. I've gotten plenty of compliments on this too - I'm keeping my bottle hidden from my sister, for instance, because I'm pretty sure it would disappear otherwise.

Reading reviews I was surprised to see comparisons to Aquila Pink Sugar.
I agree with the statement it's nothing like Pink Sugar, which smells like cotton candy to me. But everyone smells things differently and skin chemistry is important.

As for sweet, it's definitely sweet, like putting honey on your tongue. You'll absolutely need to enjoy sweet to appreciate Honey & the Moon. And I would say it wouldn't hurt to like the taste of straight honey either.
But that may just be how it works with my chemistry.

On me it smells like true honey from beginning to end. I can possibly, barely, pick up jasmine if I really really try. It stays very linear and lasts a long time.

A friend of mine said it smelled like raspberries and honey to her. After re-examining I can see where it could pass as having raspberry notes. It seems it's definitely one you'll want to try first. I find it sweet, warm, and a sign of summer with bees zooming by and hovering over flowers, pollen heavy on their legs. Hopefully it doesn't actually attract bees. Hmmm... Guess I'll find out because I picked up a full bottle. I'll let you know if it should have a "wear in winter only" warning attached later.

~ Update! No, yes! It doesn't attract bees and it's fabulous in hot weather! I wore it today in the toasty sun with bumble bees abound and it smelled sooooo good. Easily matched with summer or winter weather and everything in between. Bravo Tokyo Milk!

this smells nothing like aquolina pink sugar. even my husband can smell a huge difference in the two fragrances and he could care less about perfume. it is sweet smelling, sure...the candied violet, honey, and sandalwood are the most apparent to me. the jasmine gets lost somewhere w/ my body chemistry. the honey note, surprisingly enough, smells just like raw honey--and i love honey and the moon for it. another reviewer mentioned the song w/ the same name--i too, made the same association w/ the perfume and the song and how fitting the scent is to the sentiment of the song itself...surprised anyone else would have made the reference...

i love this perfume. some people in reviews say that it smells too sugary sweet or too much like food, that it isn't a subtle scent, etc., but i don't really agree. on me, this perfume smells like i just took a little baby sunset honeycomb and rubbed it all over me. there is a bit of spicy floral to it also, but not that nasty powdery foufy type of flower scent. i find that mostly only lasts right at the beginning, maybe a couple minutes at most. mostly it just smells like pure, warm honey when it's on my skin. and it stays that way until it fades. there's also a slight bit of a subtle vanilla smell, but it smells really nice and not cheesy or cheap at all. there's also a bit of a... dare i say a sort of milky tone? not in the sense of sour or anything... just a sort of comforting milky smell.

you can't really smell it on me unless you're standing quite close, which i actually love, because i hate wearing overpowering perfume. overall this scent is very delicate and feminine but has a nice organic sort of quality to it also. it doesn't smell synthetic or like a cookie/cake/dessert themed perfume to me at all. i don't think it's too rich or anything. maybe if you use a ton it could be... but in my experience it's always been a gentle, sweet honey scent. i've spent so long trying to find a perfume that fits me and this is definitely it.

it makes me think of sitting in my bedroom as a child during a warm sunset with the sun coming in all soft and tangerine-golden, and drinking a cup of warm milk with honey and vanilla mixed in like my mom used to make for me.

yet at the same time this is a scent that could also be very sexy, just because it's so warm and feminine.

i definitely agree with kay_li13's description of this.

I really like this perfume; it does not smell AT ALL like A. Pink Sugar to me, (this is not a burnt cotton-candy smell) and the honey notes last well on me. It is a gentle, pleasantly sweet, musky-powdery floral scent. Not for everyone, though, especially if you're a "foodie" - it is not a milk & honey smell! Not sure how it's in the "Oriental Spicy" category because, well, there's no spice. If you buy it expecting that, you will be disappointed. It's light & good for the daytime. Smells a little like Easter Sunday (from the white flowers.)

Update: I am noticing that in warmer weather, there is a strong citrus note when first on - it's not listed in the description. So it's a little tart for about 30 minutes or so. Then, a gentle powder sort of drifts up casually to the top as the tartness fades. Very pretty.

I'm going to write this review with as little defensiveness as possible, but after reading some of the other reviews i'm just a bit grouchy. Yes this fragrance has sweetness and a bit of spice, but it is not even close in the slightest bit to the dreaded pink sugar. If pink sugar was the smell of a certain color it would be pink, obviously. This scent might be the smell of taupe. At first whiff I do get a dark honey, and i'm happy to say that it still maintains honey's good qualities without any of the sharpness that honey can have. Following that top note comes a dark earthiness, much like wet firewood. That dark and woody scent melds nicely with the dark sweetness and dries into a warm (almost toasted) honey scent similar to real natural beeswax. I can imagine that this scent would wear differently on everyone, but this deep scent has absolutely nothing to do with pink sugar (and that's a great thing)

Honey and the Moon is like a box of old memories that you open after many years. The opening burst of earthiness mixed with honey reminds me of a lazy afternoon spent in the brick room of my childhood home, laying on the green carpet and watching dust floating in the sunlight from a window. It stays like this for a long time and finally drys down to a gooey honey stick drizzle. On me, the honey is accurate and smells as if I have just opened a jar of honey from the local farm and slathered the honeycomb on my arm. I've never smelled Aquolina's Pink Sugar, but this isn't synthetic or generic smelling to me, but rather unique and not overly sweet or not sweet enough.

Just like the song it was named after, Honey and the Moon is crafted beautifully and full of reminiscent longing. I wouldn't want to wear this everyday, as I think that would probably take away from the charm of the experience being one that feels like rediscovering something, but would don this on days when I am missing my house, or the hot stickiness of the weather back at home in South Carolina, picnic baskets and stretching out on the grass in the park with bees buzzing around. Or when I am missing my college in the cold winter, making hot cups of tea and stirring the honey stick, while breathing in the hot steam, and sitting on the musty couch with the soft cushions. Finally the perfume ends on a soury note, a somewhat bittersweet finish that leaves only a slight trace of honey on your skin and me skeptical of whether of not I would actually wear it again.

In this way it reminds me of items from the CB I Hate Perfumes line. I've never smelled anything from them, but the concept is the same. To make perfumes that evoke certain feelings, or describe a certain event in your life, like Memory of Kindness or the one that was made about Ice Skating in the Park in 1960 something... Maybe that makes it less wearable, but I think perfumes like these are true masterpieces in terms of olfactory art and perfume.

Indeed a major disappointment, it DOES smell just like Aquolina's Pink sugar.

Now, I like Pink Sugar. It's spicy and sweet and very much "there" so no one can miss it, but I wasn't into getting a replica of it, was I? I could just buy the original.
And just like Pink sugar it has a very synthetic feel to it and a strong, warm scent of overly burnt cotton candy with peppers.
I'd say Pink Sugar is even a little lighter than this one.

As rebella before me said, try before you buy.

Oh, what a dissapointment. I get almost no honey. The topnotes are really pretty a burst of tuttifrutti, chocolate, vanilla and honey, but after only a few minutes there isn´t any left. All I´ve got is a overly sweet cotton candy, smells like a bad copy of Aqualinas Pink Sugar, and I don´t like Pink Sugar. :(

Much to longlasting for my taste. I so wanted some soft honey and milk and sandalwood, but there isn´t any on me!

Try before you buy.

this is a gourmand fragrance lovers dream! the honey actually smells good, not the way honey can sometimes smell in a perfume. to me honey usually smells musty and unpleasant, or as my husband so eloquently puts it 'it smells like ass'
this on the other hand is sweet and delicious, perfect for a cool winter day, or the beginning of falls cold embrace. the jasmine is apparent from first application, but the honey and sandalwood eventually take over and leave you with a soft, warm aroma.
