Champaca Absolute Fragrance Reviews

Fabulous perfume! I adore it. It's truly magnificent. And thank you LuxAestiva, for your wonderful review. You describe my own impression of Champaca Absolute to a tee! Having never seen nor smelt the flower itself, I appreciate your description. Perfect.

It is, as you say: creamy, buttery, banana-custard etc; beautiful 'toasty' oak, cognac, gorgeous flowers, sandalwood, vanilla, amber. Really feminine - really beautiful.

A lovely, scrumptious, rich perfume. Love it. Very special.

I think this fragrance is stunning. I love it and do not regret the price I paid for it. Most possibly beautiful yellow flowers perfume to ever put on. I mostly sense the yellow flowers that must be the champaca essence and something boozzy and smokey in the same time. Very feminine! Works great in both summer and winter but in winter is much more interesting, the 'fumey aspect is more pronounced during colder seasons.

it's metallic at first, very complex, boozy, i get the cognac and candy notes. the metallic notes fade after a while, and it becomes sweeter.

If you have ever smelled champaca flowers or other related magnolias, this will instantly transport you into sticking your face into it's fresh blooms. The best way to describe a champaca flower is slightly spicy but also creamy and buttery with a banana custard like sweetness. A related plant is even called Banana Shrub (Magnolia/Michelia figo) due to it's banana fragranced flowers. Champaca is definitely the main actor here, but is supported and enhanced by other floral nuances, sweet notes and warm base notes of sandalwood, vanilla and amber. I adore the largely present cognac note because it's boozy presence mellows the champaca out by yielding a toasty oakiness. Champaca Absolute makes me feel happy, yet I don't feel the need to buy a full bottle and will savor my 4 ml bottle on rainy days when I need some flowers, sweets and a hefty drink.

This is the day my dreams come true about finding a real sillage monster that I love
I don't know how champaca and maron grac smell in reality, but I can smell a dominant floral note, which is familiar to my nose but I've never smelt it in a perfume, very natural, nostalgic and nice smelling, soaked in a nutty honey..there is no cognak to my nose
I know this kind of explaining a scent is childish but this is the best way I can picture it
It is warm, sweet and deliciously sexy, there is a hint of powderyness, also a hint of spices and to be honest I find champaca absolute, absolutely feminine..very differant from other perfumes I own and very strong
Great longevity and enormous sillage
I will wear it all around the year except summers(maybe not bad for summer nights)
I think it's better for +35years old so not for my age but I like it and I wear whatever I like.this is a special fragrance and I'm going to use it in special events
I will edit this after several uses

I don't know what champaca smells like, but I assume it smells like "YELLOW FLOWERS!!!" Not unpleasant, but just not as complex as I would like a Tom Ford to be. I will likely use my sample during the spring and summer months, but I won't consider a bottle of this one.

Haven't smelled a Champaca flower yet, but the opening has a yellow-flowery smell, the sort that emanates from Frangipani flowers but subtle. The packaging for this perfume is misleading in a good way as it's makes a twist. One would expect dark, balsamic, heavy notes from an amber coloured bottle with gold accents. The perfume notes are very tropical, semi-lite and there is an under-tone of something classic, something old but not out-dated. Like the perfume cupboard of a rich aunt who in her 40's, who had just left her collection in your name.

Yes, there is a feminine-ness and glamour in the notes. Something one would wear for an evening, There are hints of ripening fruits and a smell of aged brandy mixed with thick honey, I really cant put my finger on it.

This is a mature perfume, If you are above 40, things will settle around you very quickly and its a pleasant fragrance. Completely opposite reaction to BronxBeauty's experience.

I wouldn't re-purchase again (as it stands) never know what time does to a guy.

My new obsession, a blind eBay purchase that I was a little anxious about after reading the review labelling it as very feminine, I shouldn't have worried. Whilst it's not hyper-masculine, which I hate - hence I'm far more interested in trying 'unisex' fragrances - this is a floral scent with some balls. I definitely get what a previous reviewer said about bamboo and rice, it has that captivating scent of warm sushi rice. I've never smelt a Champaca, flower, apparently it's botanically a magnolia but doesn't smell like it is. I get a very ripe, honeyed floral that manages not to be too sweet. Projection and longevity very good, I don't get much evolution in this, which is a positive because the main accord is so wonderful. I don't know when I'll wear this other than wanting to sit with it and enjoy it by myself, I think it could work for a casual few drinks or anything semi-formal. Definitely one of those scents that has me walking around town sniffing my wrist obsessively.

Another testament to how different a fragrance can be from one skin to another. This is pure heaven on my skin, and in the easiest way. Leads with cognac and champaca, but well blended with other notes. Follows with discernible but not heavy violet supported by amber. Unfortunately the sillage is not huge on me, nor is the longevity lengthy.

In my collection, this is a great one for everyday/work because it cuddles me closely and elegantly, but in no way could anyone (I assume) perceive this as offensive or loud. Some of the TF's I love are bigger and shout their presence. This is more than a whisper, but you need to listen carefully.

I get none of the notes listed above but I do get a massive blast of very cheap smelling synthetic rubbish. I like a lot of Tom Ford's private blend, but to me, this smells like a very cheap air freshner.

I wanted so badly to love this. And from the bottle and on a card, I did. It seemed like a full bodied floral, and I thought my quest for a floral fragrance to join my wardrobe may be over.
However...
I initially got the green tones, and zesty bergamot, and thought "ooooh! You're going to evolve wonderfully!" The next step revealed the pure champaca heart... and that's where it froze. I didn't get any further evolution. The champaca did seem to get stronger as it warmed on my skin, but it didn't shift in any sort of interesting direction.
It was as if I suddenly had a large fragrant toad squatted on my arm in a Carmen Miranda hat yelling "CHAMPACA! CHAMPACA!" at me.
I dearly hope this fragrance opens differently on other skin types, but for me it was a colossal NOPE that I couldn't wash off fast enough.
It also left me with something of an olfactory hangover, where for the next couple days every remotely sweet fragrance I smelled made my brain think the champaca had returned.

I'm envious of those who smell woods or amber in this. To my nose, it is all big (huge, gargantuan) flowers. Too strong. No rounded edges. I waited for the drydown in case it morphed but no. Still huge piercing flowers. It lasted so long which would have been a bonus if I liked it. The high price is also very limiting. Lucky those who smells it differently than I do.

Im a guy that doesn't necessary care whether a fragrance is made for a man or a woman, I like what I like. And as for Champaca...I def like it. I get the hairspray opening some complain about, as it does start off with a sweet, almost chemically pungent aroma. I don't know what a Champaca flower smells like, but to me its super sweet-fruity, almost leaning toward ripe bananas. Take that sweet banana smell and give it a back bone of amber, sandalwood and cognac then top it off with some violet and thats what you have here, It's very different and there is something underneath it all that I can't describe and maybe thats a good thing. Throw a little mystery and confusion out there and let people come closer to try to figure it all out.
Overall, it's sticky sweet/honey rich and that may make some love this, or make them run from it. I for one am intrigued by it. I like to wear it just to see what happens.

I had just about decided that Tom Ford fragrances are not for me; too overwhelming and complicated. That said, I do like Black Orchid and Jasmine Rouge is not too shabby. But this! Champaca Absolute smells just as I wanted it to smell: a serene, peaceful journey down a quiet river through an Asiatic landscape.

The first time I tried it from the complimentary deluxe 4ml sample handed out from Neiman Marcus, I was mildly disappointed. It was pleasant but I wanted it to be a little stronger. I wore it for a day then thought no more of it for a month. THEN I tried it again a few weeks ago and was thoroughly enchanted. It has a very light musky sandalwood undertone which pushes the champaca note into full bloom, lending a sensuous aura to this understated and elegant fragrance. As for cognac and jasmine, no, I do not detect these things; where others claim the cognac lends a syrupy sweet character, I smell absolutely nothing boozy-sweet. And I appreciate that as I am not a fan of sugary, boozy fragrances. Honestly all I get is champaca and sandalwood, two of my favorite notes.

This is no powerhouse; sillage is very close to the skin and staying power maxes out at around 3 hours unless you really douse yourself freely with it, which I do. This is one I wear for myself and if someone else notices it, that's fine but not necessary for my enjoyment of it. It is very calming and meditative to me; dry, softly woody with a refined champaca note. It's perfect for year-round wear. I can see the Buddha smiling his approval as he catches a whiff of it from someone who enters his temple for meditation.

The most potent fragrance I own! Maximum 2 sprays or I feel like I dove in a bottle! I can smell patchouli and cardamom in addition to champaca- orchid blend. I wish that cognac notes would be more intense, I love the woody- vanilla dry down. Last up to 24 hours on my skin and does not let me forget that I'm wearing it

sweet clean florals. don't smell any booze (cognac) but I do get a large amount of sweetness radiating off my skin - vanilla dancing with jasmine, candied violets watching the dance and amber trying to desperately squeeze in. unlike most TF scents this one is rather soft, it doesn't scream at you or radiate from 75 feet away. it's a pleasant cleanliness, like laundry detergent sprinkled with fresh cut flowers. interesting but not my style.

Very sweet and syrupy, maybe a bit to much to wear but nice to sniff. Very flowery and feminine, definitely NOT unisex, if I smelled this on a guy I'd definitely be pulling his man card... Smells too generic and too much like hairspray/crayons to spend the cash for a full bottle. Nice to sample though.

I was lucky enough to get my hands on a 6 pk of tom ford 4mls for cheap on ebay. I tend to really marinate of a frag. and once I get so obsessed I feel it in my bones, like its a part of me and I need it because each perfume I have owned stands as a hallmark of a period of time in my life. that being said I have been without a "daily" juice for quite some time. I do have old favorites, but have yet to find a new "the one". I fell instantly in love with tobacco oud. its dirty spicy sweaty rough things behind closed doors quality haunts me, so much so I totally ignored champaca absolute until this evening..... things have become so complicated, because if I shell out the dough for a bottle of TF, its a commitment. and champaca sparkles, its lovely when applied, and becomes this luxurious soft beauty. The jasmine, champaca, and vanilla notes in here are so well mingled. Light enough for daytime, sexy enough for evening. I guess my days of a commitment fragrance are dead, with so many exciting new twists down the rabbit hole.

The opening is pretty feminine. The heart and dry down is probably made more for the feminine as well, but I could care less. This stuff smells wonderful and reminds me of Napa valley wine tasting. My least favorite part is the opening, which is a cloud of that old hair spray smell that sometimes I get from feminine frags (ex: AG La Violette). I get both rich red wine and white floral in a good way. My daughter loves it as well, asked if she could put it on today too.

This is a gorgeous floral with depth, that isn't an annoying or nauseating floral. It is very safe and unoffensive, and clings closely to the skin. It's soft, clean, feminine, and warm. I think this would make a perfect workday scent, year round, but it's not sexy or powerful enough to wear for a night out. In fact, I like it so much as an inviting-safe-tolerable-floral that I might actually get it for work.

Not strictly champaca by any means, but this is a solid narcotic floral that makes a mockery of the florals that TF have been releasing as of late. However, it’s very sweet, powered more by honey, vanilla, and amber than anything. Slightly soapy, quite syrupy, and somewhat lactonic. It doesn’t smell like any one specific flower (although rose stands out once it gets going), but it smells very floral with a capital-F. Heady, slightly oily, a bit tropical, but there’s not much to it and it’s very, very loud. So if you wear too much of this in a public space, expect to be pegged as “that person” — and deservedly so.

Lovely floral with the real smell of champaca. But since I got it because its supposed cognac note I was disappointed. Absolutely NOT boozy at all for me. I´ll have to keep searching...
To put it differently, if a cognac smelled like this, I´d never drink it... Nice smell though, but for the opposite gender.

Champaca Absolute is my favourite of the TF line. This is an absolutely magnificent (feminine) fragrance. "Lush, heady and intoxicating - yet perfectly restrained" - is the feeling I get from smelling this one. It also has great longevity and sillage! The notes are blended to perfection, and I might add, this is one of the most unique florientals I have smelled so far. In hot weather I like to add Neroli Portofino.

Here's for those of you who complained about "new friend" writing in Arabic. I didn't take me more than 15 seconds to use Google Translate to get it translated into English. Happy now, since it was apparently a hardship for some to do it themselves? This is directly from Google Translate, and I take no responsibility for grammar, and so on.

Flower fragrance exclusive Tom Ford Altchampka - private mix
There perfume bearing the name of the word "Absolute" any absolute exclusive, which means that the fragrance maker has put this component in the head when the work of synthesis of aromatic and was his main concern no interest to the consecration of this component, so do not expect that there is a major player within the aromatic bottle labeled "Absolute" However, this component is intended, and what else would be supportive of the components of the main player to proclaim it in the most beautiful and pompous as possible a picture of him.
And Atrna Tchampka Abceleo this is the perfect model for this kind of combinations of aromatic ideal for fans of this component, which is represented here, "Flower Altchampka."

I believe that even understand a people or communities, then you have to read where they live read detailed conscious. Fbaqrah place including its content of natural components interfere mainly in the formation of cultures, customs and Sekolejiat and ideologies of living in this place.

Atrna and based on this flower Altchampka, this flower native to Southeast Asia, especially in India.
We have found the password for this fragrance, it's "India" permission.

Whenever my eyes fell on the word "India" opens APOP my memory on: (stunning natural scenery - mountains of lush grass with blatant colors - Indian temples - the crown shop - tea plantations - the Ganges - the huge elephants - the Himalayas - yoga - the ancient Indian Movies nature tragic ancient Indian music and dumped in the melodramatic and the other dancer beats all Mpehjat life).

And millions "Codra" owners bodies slender with pale faces that may Olhptha the scorching sun of the large number of works that are similar to slavery and forced labor in a few masters layer of the clergy "Brahmins" layer warriors "Alkashatrella", and senior traders and supervision "Alvaiche."

It is a combination of "natural - geographic - social" contradictory only see it in this place, which lasted from ancient times until today on a deep philosophical basis can not be expressed only utter one is "patience," Patience is the basis of this highly complex Indian mixture and contradiction .

Tonight, let us add "Altchampka" This flower of India for this special mix "Private Blend" private Tom Ford and borrow from the name to be "Indian Blend".
Let us now embark on a journey to India to explore this unique fragrance.

Inevitably will start in New Delhi airport, where luxury and elegance of the English character who Setsll you through touches of glass around the halls of the red gates, a color so beloved of the British, to be the overall impression you have that you did not enter India after.

Italian Bergamot refreshing that she loves the European peoples and almost devoid perfume continental him.
Cognac: the French original brew.
Flower "Dyer's Greenweed" or puck dyeing, which represents the British and Wales the most important habitat.

European editorial: "Bergmot refreshing and fuel Cognac and velvet flower Walgreen Lloyd"
But not to worry, they will not last long and will not take the time your trip takes only as much as you check in and out of New Delhi airport procedures English character time.

But why did you choose to Delhi to enter the heart of India instead of Bombay, the largest city?
Now I began to understand .. Vdelha is not an Indian character fully, it has always been the focus of Rahal invaders and colonizers and conquerors of the Indian sub-continent since he was named Dehli days Persians and then of Arabs even ended British occupation which a character name to Delhi developed to represent a blend of ancient and modern eras, and be a center of power and governance, the economy and is where all the currents of life between a large modern buildings, streets, gardens and wide in return will include landscape collector Delhi mosque and the red Fort and the old castle and the Qutub Minar and the Temple of Hewmanao and India Gate Park Lodi Park Urdu character, where the graves of Muhammad Shah Iskandar Lodi.

But no matter how different places in the heart of Delhi, you can be confident that your roses surround wherever you go:

Orchid: with the sweet smell that suggest cleanliness and vanilla-like in some species.

Jasmine: Warm exciting, who works on the mood balance and a feeling of happiness, which is called in India b Mutia Mutia

Flower Violet: Athens icon old favorite of Napoleon Bonaparte, strong and heavy smell like a flower, it is not with a wooden fragrant herbal intensive rather than a thin flower nice smell smells like a flower iris roots.
It flowers in their entirety or European exist in more than one place in the world, but when you are in India, you will not only received this scene there.

"Altchampka" flower yellow adorn the hair of girls and women in the streets and shops, and mingle always bouquets of roses on the tables and in the corridors of hotels in Delhi, which is primarily used for worship in temples, whether at home or out, as well as the spread filled the when approaching some Indians who wearing oily perfume homemade.

Flower Altchampka with petals goblet of Almagnulaa family, you'll find between them and the orchid some harmony and perhaps similarity, strong and psychological effects of a clear cause for a mixture of happiness and the smell is so calm, and perhaps this was the motive for their presence in abundance in Indian temples, which is a meditation and yoga practice Bgelsthe known for long hours as a basis for rituals in the temples of South East Asia in general.

Inevitably will enjoy all kinds of flowers and roses in India but you if Geert because carry with you a bouquet of only one of these flowers face the full weight of choice on the "flower Altchampka" then you might not find only here, and will increase choice established when complement their trip to rural India, to understand the good genius The existence of this particular place.
So .. The heart of the fragrance syphilis of jasmine and violet and jasmine may fits Delhi only where mixed nationalities, languages and faces, but if I decided to delve into the depths of India to go to the real India "India Codra" it is not appropriate to carry them, none of these aristocratic flowers that will increase from feeling the pain of the class and moan their bodies meager tired of working long hours.

But you will have everyone there Batsama satisfaction and acceptance if you go clutching flowers Indian Altchampka which brings to mind the stories of fathers from the days of patience and struggle, which abound in the past and Stlhmanm image of Mahatma "Great Soul" Gandhi and next to him Rafik struggle and the first head of the Ministry of Indian national leader Jawaharlal Nehru stories , rightly understood the link between ancient India and civilization between Sindh and India, which sees the world now, do you know anything about the salt March ??
Do you think that in a place like this you can have a real presence for:

Maroon Glasser marrons glacés: dessert consisting of Abu scalp covered or soaked in sugar syrup diabetes, Fmaron means brown and Glasser because they are saturated with sugar.

Amber and vegetable "amber": The segments sweet, gooey resin, comfortable, and warm.
Or vanilla: a platoon of spices, sweet smell of warm, as is the case in amber, make you feel comfortable and calm, tend to floral scent, with good flavor excite the appetite.

You may also find these things in some of the houses of wealthy merchants and large-scale farmers "Alvaiche"
But I would never be them prevail over the pain and grief and memories of the majority of the people of Alhnaudi Codra ordinary thin bodies owners, but in the strength and hardness of sandal wood, which certainly will not be without them home from their homes or temples or Mbakm.
Sandalwood: wood, aromatic with a strong sweet smell of heavy, long-lasting, smells of spiritual dimensions removes tension.

There you will find Altchampka inside the houses and courtyards, weddings and hillsides flower and even within local diets.

Ttnea will not trip quickly, and will not go back to Delhi airport before to spend in rural India amid these wonderful Codra the whole day and night to be a farewell with the dawn of the next day.

Tchampka Ibceleo fragrance from Tom Ford's mix, is simply this Indian trip that no matter how I tried Civil Western modern eliminate the features you will not succeed, but a little bit, India is not the monks "Brahmins" layer nor warriors "Alkashatrella" or wealthy "Alvaiche", will remain India represented only simple "Codra"

A year ago wrote a commentary in the "Code of perfume": that Tchampka perfume fragrance philosophically invites you to contemplate this difficult lives of the majority of the Indian people and that they face in the silence of a special kind of patience blends between "pain and work."
Puffs of this fragrance and feel that you sit with people in the genius of Gandhi and Nehru statesmanship.

Wonderful fragrance -mn point Nzera- all standards
Jamal - uniqueness - purity - exhalation very good and excellent fastness exceed 10 hours simply.
Sahark energetic during the day, and the comfort and warmth at night

Unisex fit for the privilege, and can be blended perfume Black Orchid from the same house if you need more power and Alfohan.

I asked New Friend very politely and respectfully to include their review in English because I am interested in a different view from a different culture. I lived in the Middle East and dearly love the rich oud and incensed attars of the area. Not because I was trying to police anyone. It was clearly a request for that, as I stated. Don't read more into this than you should, genvy. Being easily offended is not flattering.

Top notes are heavy! I hardly survived the initial blast, to be honest. However, after a while, this scent surprisingly started to be... quite pleasant. Deep floral orient.

This is a heavenly feminine fragrance. Smells to me a bit like a delicate floral soap, churned and blended with condensed milk into a light, fluffy mousse.

The texture is soft and airy, and the vanilla and marron glacé provide a sweet creaminess. Thankfully violet is just a supporting note and combines with the other florals and sandalwood to give a suitable sharpness that keep things fresh and spirited.

I see this on a woman 35+, but I'm seeing a lot of men like it too, so who knows.

There is no way for me to accurately describe the way this perfume smells, but it is absolutely beautiful.

The initial spray is bright and bubbly like champagne. There *is* a cognac note in this fragrance, which the scent profile describes as "reminiscent of aged grapes and oak barrels", and BAM - spot on. Though this is classified as a yellow floral, it's syrupy, cheerful, uplifting, sweet and refreshing.

The notes listed are all present, but they are so well-blended that they are almost impossible to pick out, though you can feel where they are.

I don't get the 'powdery' accord at all, which is a relief - some powdery fragrances get very cloudy and dusty on my skin, and this fragrance is crystal clear. There is a slight hint of a fruity undertone somewhere in this from the sweetness, and also something that reminds me of a classic clean bubble-bath scent.

One of the few Tom Ford fragrances I've come across that I'd classify as slightly more "feminine" though, of course, a man could still pull it off- very comforting, peaceful, blissful and ridiculously addicting. I haven't found a perfume I've loved so much (immediately) in a long time!! Definitely a must-try.

This is a complicated perfume that gradually grew on me after testing several times. Impressive too because it seems fairly unique

I think it must be the note of dyer's greenweed alongside the green notes of champaca that gives this a chypre-like feel - something green, dry and dusty yet warm that reminds me of oakmoss of yore!

But aside from that, there's a mouth watering ripe fruitness that must be to do with cognac and chestnuts - the overall tastiness reminding me of dried figs

Also there's a smooth, slightly animalic (urinous) musk or is it jasmine? Maybe both, there's a haze of musk that smooths out the perfume as a whole so I'm guessing that's a synthetic musk, it works well. Not disimilar to musk notes in Ormonde Woman (but in that perfume the musk dominated too much for me). I can see how the watery note of violet would cut through this viscous mix in nice ways too (not sure I detect it exactly)

Anyway, there's something about Champaca Absolute that speaks of interesting classic and complex perfumes, not old fashioned, but full bodied. A perfume that develops on skin in appealing ways

I can see it working very nicely in Autumn with its hazy mysterious and earthy/warm qualities

It's neither male nor female to my nose, neither typically pretty, nor 'aftershavey', either gender could work this well

Longevity excellent (one small spray to my wrist still wafting up nicely to my nose four hours later)

Sillage moderate to strong depending on how it's applied

Tom Ford has taken Bond No. 9's West Side, mixed it with Black Orchid and flirted a bit more with it, adding and subtracting a little here & there, until he came up with this magical scent that gets little love in the line......, but has some solid aspects to it: boozy, creamy, gourmandish-A lot of florals tho for you men who are not necessarily comfortable with such notes projecting from you.... IMO

I purchased this fragrance twice. The first time convinced that it would become my signature fragrance before loosing it in a piece of luggage I left in a taxi during my first trip to Paris.

With my sights still set on making Champaca Absolute my signature fragrance, I happened on Frederic Malle's ultra feminine Portrait of a Lady before repurchasing it and eventually decided, despite my original obsession that it was too masculine for my taste and gave the second bottle to my husband who adores it. While I occasionally, steal a spritz or two...this is definitely not for me with my taste leaning more towards "obviously feminine...definitely made for girls" fragrances.

However, whenever I smell it it still inspires visions of being wrapped in the strong embrace of a wealthy, salt-n-pepper, well-travelled, good-looking man, who's favorite past-time is exploring the world's finest cognacs, cigars, and exotic foods.

Ugggghhhh!!!! This is such a sexy fragrance but just not feminine enough for me.:-(

Guys:
Imagine receiving an invitation to a party from a woman that you're dating. You arrive and discover that this is her best friend's birthday party. Your date is only one of maybe 6-10 women there. The rest are guys and the crowd is pre-dominantly gay. You can interact with anyone in this party and probably enjoy yourself with little-to-no reservations. You make connections. You meet your new tailor. You trade notes on grooming tips and talk about football. Your date will be amazed at how comfortable you are in your own skin.
If this sounds like you, then you can (and should) wear Champaca Absolute with no problems.

I find Champaca Absolute to be feminine AND masculine. It's perfectly unisex. The cognac remains present throughout the drydown, making this a sexual skin scent. This is Bond No.9's Westside - only more refined.
The sillage is moderate, yet intoxicating. This definitely belongs on skin. If only sprayed upon fabric, the individual is cheating him-/herself.
For me, the longevity is outstanding. I can still detect it after 8 hours and a shower.

This is one of those compositions that a couple could/should share. It's quite the sexual skin scent.

9/10, if your'e comfortable with your sexuality.

Champaca Absolute Private Blend by Tom Ford

I cannot believe I almost gave this perfume away too soon. It was a blind buy for me, because in real life I love the cognac and marron glace aromas, and in my mind the combination of those two notes in a perfume sounded amazing. And they indeed are! Champaca Absolute is a warm, boozy, sweet oriental floral powerful perfume. Very sensual and feminine, not dainty or shy. It is a rich and syrupy concoction of champaca and 'carbohydrate rich' candied chestnuts flavored with brandy. Best suited for cold weather, this perfume is a true oriental floral that doesn's smell gourmand despite its few edible accords, it has an even animalistic or a tad 'skanky' element in the drydown.Chestnuts do have an earthy parameter, I'm wondering if this is where I get the animalic tones from. One of the difficult perfumes to describe, as it is so unique. I wouldn't recommend as a blind buy, since it is quite expensive anyway..

This is glorious....period. This is a soft, sweet, powdery woody floral that lingers close to the skin and lasts pretty decently (5-6 hours medium sillage, 7-10 minimal sillage on dry skin in a warm, somewhat dry climate). It's instant femininity and comfort. It's gorgeous, pure and simple. I have never spent over $150 for a perfume and I love this so much I am debating buying the $520 bottle (mostly because it's an incredible price considering how much you get). This may be my most favorite fragrance of all time.

I've been a bit of a ditz--I thought this was going to be an incensey frag (I confused “champaca” with “nag champa” lol). I sprayed some on my wrist and thought—wha? This is floral—where's the smoke and spice? Now that I'm on this page, I see that champaca is indeed a flower, and this is a scent that reminds me of Michael Kors or Marc by M Jacobs. I'm afraid I prefer either of them to this scent by Ford.

I have a blend of this and Azure Lime and it is amazing! This is floral, sweet, boozy, smokey and creamy. I would argue that it is one of the best sleepers in the line and doesn't get the love it deserves. It tends to be a bit on the lighter side somewhere between Neroli and Moss on the projection/sillage side of things. Noticeable for sure but nothing like Amber Absolute or Noir de Noir which performs at high levels in those categoris on my skin. Definitely worth a try and may be a love. Don't judge it in the first hour, it actually picks up steam and morphs wonderfully through the heart.

Champaca Absolute is my favourite TF and in my opinion one of his best.Boozy opening,no doubt, but once the cognac has subsided to a lesser extent the glorious chestnut aroma remains right through the mid notes and drydown.I disagree with previous commentary that its a female only scent and an old womans fragrance or overtly floral. For mine the floral notes are there but take a backseat.Granted its not the most masculine scent going around but its a standout in a bland sea of citrus/aquatics/oriental/woods and can be worn by a guy who is looking for something totally unique and is confident enough to wear it.Longevity is in the vicinity of 6 hours and sillage is close to the skin.
Definitely worth a sample and pleased I have added this gem to my collection of niches :)

Champaca Absolute is a sadly under appreciated offering from Tom Ford. With all the hype this house gets, you'd think this fragrance would get more love.
I wonder if it's because many are like "CHAMPACA? WTF IS THAT?"
What is champaca? It's magical! But no, really, it's a flower. Native to South/Southeast Asia. It is part of the magnolia family and smells, to me, like equal parts magnolia, ylang-ylang and indolic jasmine.
Champaca Absolute is smooth, creamy and very slightly dirty.
Now that DS & Durga's My Indian Childhood is no longer in production I will most likely be looking to Champaca Absolute as a replacement. They are very different fragrances, but champaca is hard to come by and I was very disappointed in Ormonde Jayne's Champaca.

*edit after further wears
the drydown is just TOO sweet and syrupy for me. I am still on the lookout for a new champaca.

rich, creamy, austere but seductive. This is what the mistress in an 80's Judith Krantz miniseries would wear. I'd wear this all year round because it's nicely balanced by the woodsy note that injects some heat into the coolth of the floral. Lovely and definitely worthy of the price tag.

Opens with a moist white floral note that suggests humid doldrums. The volume hints that the perfume will be a big, mixed white floral, and it is. It's just not the expectable jasmine, orange blossom, tuberose trip. It's not 'dirty' in the sense of sweat and body odor that the above flowers tend to have, but does have an umami quality that keeps it from reading as too spic and span. This savory tone serves the same purpose as BO in tuberose and the others. It’s a basic compositional strategy in both the kitchen and the perfume lab. Use the contrasting note that highlights the sultriness of the floral, the lemon juice that brings out the sweetness of melon, the MSG that brightens your processed foods.

Champaca flower has a creamy sweetness that’s cut with a whiff of tea. In shape, it reminds me of camellia. Champaca Absolute underlines the creamy floral with ambery lushness and gives it the feel of party-girl floriental. There's a big push-pull to the top notes, as the floral tone is very expansive, but the creaminess pulls it back a bit.

The top notes are actually fairly simple, but they transition into a more complex set of heart notes that add a spiciness and give dimension to the flower. It feels a little more woody than oriental at this point. It moves from an apparent simplicity to a more nuanced complexity and is very satisfying to wear. The heart notes are fairly long-lasting, and gorgeous. Floral, spicy, woody, creamy. Very luxurious overall.

The basenotes take a bit of a turn and spiced creaminess grows more vanillic, making me think there was an attempt to end on a sandalwood note. Unfortunately earthiness and the milkiness don't mix well and the ending, for all the world, smells to me like cupcakes made with a mushroom butter cream icing. The slow transition is off-putting, giving me the feeling of smelling milk curdle.

Interesting ride, but not the ending I'd hoped for.

(A thought. There is a similarity in Champaca Absolute’s amber/magnolia accord to Givenchy’s Insense. These two perfumes have little in common otherwise. Perhaps this amber/champaca pairing could lead to other interesting perfumes.)

I tried this at Saks and was intrigued by the scent, put off by the price tag. I have been thinking of it ever since, I recently joined a decanting site and got a 20ml bottle, I adore it, one spray will linger and project the whole day. I am not poetic like many of you in scent description, I am shy of strong florals, but this is floral and more, spicy, woody, sweet, seductive. I adore it!!!!

An incredibly deep, rich, powerful scent! I happen to love the aroma of cognac, and this captures it perfectly, but then blends in the floral and gourmand notes so you don't smell like a drunk lol.
Sweet chestnuts pair well with cognac in terms of taste, and even better with fragrance (although the chestnut note is a natural-smelling synthetic---without a chemical afterburn).
A little goes a VERY long way---apply lightly!

I want to smell champaca flowers, because they must smell just like lilacs!! I grew up with a large lilac bush in my backyard, and this reminds me of that.
I like this, I'm just amazed that I haven't seen anyone else mention that it smells a lot like lilacs. Well, it does to me anyway.

This fragrance is one of a kind.
It's like they took a classical flower fragrance and added a modern twist to it.
It's radiant, rich and wrapping.

The champaca note is amazing. It's smells sunny and very creamy.
The violet note is a delight, it's sweet, fresh and powdery. Jasmine is a little left behind wich is a good thing.
Orchid here reminds me of Classique but in a less synthetic way but i'm not fond of orchid actually.
The amber is strong but i can't find any sandalwood.

The marron glace note is to die for and even if marron glace doesn't smells very much in real life (it tastes wonderful by the way), it's like they reproduced the taste of marron glace in the fragrance, very funny experience.
It adds a final sweetness that makes you wanting more.

It lasts for hours and the drydown is very typical of Tom ford's fragrances. Bittersweet and dirty.

Anyway due to the boozy/flowers/sugar mix, you have to avoid the sickness with this one. One spray is enough. And with such a prize, you want to keep it long!

Big, yellow, tropical flower. That`s what comes to my mind when I wear Champaca Absolute. This flower is also honeyed, dipped in cognac and paired with vanilla. Sometimes it can be overpowering but it needs right occasion and temperature. This flower will draw attention for sure as it has great projection and sillage. Can be classified as unisex but its leaning more toward feminine side.

Apply with caution, as this one can go overboard quite easily.

Opening with a boozy note, as well as bergamot, this is a bit too alcoholish for me to start.

Quickly becomes a very heavy and heady champaca scent (as per the name!), with a touch of orchid in the background. Very strong and very sweet. Very "yellow".

On the dry down, I start to get a little bit of powder from the violet and a touch of sandalwood. The caramel (maron glace) peeks out.

This is a strong, uninhibited floral. Beautiful to me, but I cannot imagine this on a man because of the level of sweetness. Did I mention this was sweet?

I must also comment that I have mixed this with TF Tuscan Leather with great success. It gives a rich base and cuts the sweetness. I can imagine this layered over a wood scent as well.

I think this one is a love or hate because it really packs a punch. Recommend to try this before buying. Lasts a full day on my skin, killer sillage if you aren't careful. I dig it!

Champaca Absolute is one of my very favorites by Tom Ford. The florals are just heavenly. It does remind me of magnolia, but maybe even a tad sweeter and somehow darker.

A candied chestnut base slowly begins to creep up, giving the perfume a depth and richness that most florals don't have these days. I'm so tired of the mainstream florals with citrus. In contrast Champaca Absolute is a velvety smooth floral; warm, nutty, and perfect for fall and winter. Think Organza, but the quality and beauty of Ford's creation is like Organza extrapolated to infinity.

Champaca Absolute's development takes hours on my skin. It's about 3-4 hours when the turning point comes at which I think I smell more honey-drizzled chestnut than champaca. This perfume from start to finish is drop-dead-sexy. If the florals weren't beautiful enough, the drydown is spellbinding!

this is my favourite TF buy so far. I got it because of the cognac and marron glace notes and I'm really happy because that's really what I'm getting out it! It's bringing back vivid images of the sexy Robert Taylor and Greta Gabor in Camille. It's definitely unisex leaning towards masculine. It's deep, slightly dark and every so sexy! I can't get the flower notes but perhaps it's because I'm still too enamoured with the marron glace to notice anything else right now. Definitely worth the price as it's surprisingly not that popular on Ebay, so the prices aren't as astronomical as other TF scents. Go for it!

Exceptional scent. You are not hit with a flat single note. The composition comes in triple layers. It is like getting three or four notes of fragrance at once. For those who think it is to floral, If you want to be in scent heaven, consider dabbing some Creed Royal Oud on top of this scent. You will smell like you were transported into the Classics era, on an exotic vacation, with dreams of Clark Gable, Casa Blanca and Humprhey Bogart.

I am very torn about this scent. It is deep and rich. I really like that about it. However the floral is so ruthless, that it is not quite what I would feel comfortable wearing. However, I think it is too deep and thick to be at all feminine. This seems to linger between the two worlds of masculine and feminine where it almost doesn't seem fully appropriate for either world. As a guy, I don't want such an overtly heavy floral, but I also would not be very impressed with this on a woman either, as it is too deep and rich to be feminine (I like women to smell soft and sweet, not dark and heavy).
So, this smells very exquisite and luxurious as a olfactory lab experiment. I could see myself wearing it around the house for fun every now and then, but I'm not sure who would be able to pull this off in the real world.

this quick review is for any guy who is thinking of getting this one:please dont.

I havent bought nor sampled all the private blend collection but this is just too "florally loud" and feminine for a guy to wear comfortably either to work or waft around town in.

the boozy opening is kind of ok . The florals remind me of Black Orchid but the dry down is far better than the opening where the loud florals tone down but by that time my patience would have ran out.sorry.

Like every luxe brand ideally must have its Angel/Alien for real success in the market, Tom Ford supported his wonderfully successful Black Orchid with something equally (if not even more) flamboyant and yes, of "expensive" quality. A very recognizable tune. Posh, kinda powerful and decently exotic. I smelled it all before, but have no clue where. And once again I admit Tom Ford's taste for beauty 'exotique' in his collection. It lets you smartly stand out without associations with a Mumbai slumdog. Millionaire fair air. And if I wanted to impress smb with niche perfumery in an easy, shortcut way, I would wear as a hotbed course this and Nuit de Tubereuse by L'Artisan. A Sure-Fire Way to impress. :))))

I was at a meeting this afternoon, and the man next to me leaned in sniffing, and said "Is that you? Something smells REALLY amazing. Are you wearing some perfume? What is that?".

"That", was well dried down, Tom Ford Champaca Absolute, but I did not tell.

Dried down fully, TF Champaca Absolute reminds me of the edges of the Thai jungle where the weight of the walking elephants moving by brings up the smell of crushed jungle greens, dried grasses, spicy wood resins, mixing in with jungle air blooming with tropical flowers and herbs.. and the scent of a clear stream not too distant. If you are in the right place, and the right time, the smell of fragrant tea and rice being boiled wafts by and mixes in with the jungle and flower smells. Oh, and there is a hint of cognac and vanilla bean ... like an emptied flask that held vanilla beans soaked in booze, now tossed to the ground and open a few feet distant.

To me, these are the smells of dried down Champaca Absolute! The emphasis here is on the fully dried down.
Be aware, this Tom Ford Private Blend begins with an alcoholic party, far removed from the jungle. This is a party with spiky heels, boozy loudness, fizzly champagne, dates soaked in cognac, surrounded with bad girls/bad boys turning cheap tricks. This is not pleasant to me! It keeps me locked away for about 20 minutes, until the party begins to settle down into a warm bouquet of Champaca ... (I know the flower well as my neighbors have a tree) ... mixed with a spicy carnation, a handful of sambac, and a stalk of lemongrass. This bouquet is surrounded by sandalwood, vanilla beans, honeyed amber, a twist of bergamont, with a scoop of steam black rice, fresh snipped green grass stalks, and musk.

Finally, after about 40 minutes, this settles and becomes that edge-of-the-jungle scent I so adore.

I think this leans more towards a female scent, especially before the full dry down. But, it could be very intriguing on a man too.

On me, the sillage is moderate, and my over-all score would be 4.5 out of 5. I do not give it a full 5.0 because of the musky layers which never go away entirely ... which I do not like much. But, this is just my nose.

Such a gorgeous scent discovered by chance in duty free

Very deep and intoxicating in a good way, mysterious, feminine, and tempting in a floral manner

Champaca Absolute is like an exotic garden of flowers at night. In your hand you have a glass of good cognac. You step outside into the darkness and smell the powerful jasmine, fragrant champaca, the beautiful and majestic orchid, the dark violet. At night you can smell them so much better when your senses are not distracted by noises and you can concentrate on the plants that surround you. This fragrance is like a symphony of those flowers... It is wonderful, rich and soft, velvety and full. I would say there is some rose in it, but it is not listed

I used to have a jasmine bush in my garden and the scent at night was so much fuller- with every breath you took, you could inhale this wonderful scent. And Champaca Absolute makes me remember those nights I spent on the porch of the summerhouse...

As Champaca Absolute dries down, you get some dry woods sweetened by vanilla undertones, with the flower accords still lingering in the air. It is hard to get enough of it.

On my skin Champaca Absolute smells like flowers and fruits blended all together.Too sweet and fruity in a weird way, like something in it isn't properly made..Exotic in its own way, reminded me of summer coctails, really suitable for spring and summer. It lasts for many hours like all Tom Ford's perfumes. Sillage is moderate but it's there..Not for me because it gave me an instant headache. If you can handle, big fruit florals this is for you.

I expected something phenomenal out of this perfume but I was let down by it. It's nice enough but nothing great.

When I first encountered Champaca Absolute, two memories rushed unbridled from my sensory past. In the first, I am a young child, playing in my grandmother’s garden in Europe, with a nose stuck in a large, white, lily flower. In the second, I am inhaling the rich, strangely buttery aroma of a tropical magnolia blossom.

The perfume itself doesn’t contain notes of the lily flower, and my association between the lily and magnolia is not so much based on how they smell, but on the texture of the two flowers: the feeling we have when our finger tips touch the velvety petals.

I don’t remember the smell of garden lilies very well, but the scent of tropical magnolia is quite vivid. It is rich, yet velvety-soft; spicy, yet creamy. I guess it is difficult to reproduce by perfumers, and probably that’s why we don’t see a lot of true-to-the flower fragrances. Champaca Absolute reminded me of a tropical magnolia blossom. After the initial burst of bergamot and something else, warm and slightly piquant (the cognac?), the fragrance reveals its generous flowery heart. The flower accord is surrounded by gentle vanilla, amber, and sandalwood, as the vanilla notes seem to dominate. In the end, the impression is quite smooth and elegantly understated.

Champaca Absolute is very creamy, without turning into powdery, and a quite feminine to my nose perfume, which conjures up images of white flowers and brings a sense of gentle calmness. The cognac and wine notes only lend depth to the flower core of the perfume without ever becoming strong on my skin. I don’t think that anyone would exclaim, “You smell like booze!” when I am wearing it.

Champaca is my favorite of the Private Blend line, with Noir de Noir coming close second. It reminds me of a piano sonata, adagio, something to listen to on a pleasant, relaxed spring day or a romantic evening. It lasts for about 6 hours on me.

I wear this often and i'm a guy. It is one of the most feminine of the private blends, but its a subtle skin scent and guys can easily get away with it.

Lasts forever and once it dries down, you are left with a beautiful skin scent of amber, vanilla and sandalwood (my inexperienced nose cannot detect the chestnut). There's also a hintof something slightly off-kilter which is enjoyable.

Everyone should give it a try.

I looove Champacca Absolute. I ordered samples of the whole tom ford private collection and have tried them all and this was my second favourite (after amber absolute). The cognac, champacca and vanilla dry down are so beautiful I find myself smelling my vial when I need a reminder of how beautiful fragrances can be. The majority of the collection is, in my opinion, quite masculine and a lot of women would struggle to wear them, but this is one of the fragrances that appealed to me the most.

This is the booziest scent I've ever worn. I had it in small cloth purse in my handbag with some other samples, and it made the whole little purse smell as if I had spilled planter's punch on it.

This is the scent of a riotous party: The cognac of the top note never truly dissipates, and the flowers underneath give it a run for the money in the in-your-face department. I definitely smelled the orchid and jasmine. If you're not careful, it could give you a headache -- or a hangover.

Still, I liked it. It's the kind of fragrance that you might use to camouflage the fact that you've done something illicit -- like smoked pot or had sex with someone you're not supposed to.
