Post-modern- post-Sopranos Italian scent?

The majority of the Tom Ford Private Blend perfumes I've tried are characteristically intense and dense: opulent, expensive fragrances of the type for 'going-out' somewhere special in the evening, as opposed to 'everyday-go-to-work' scents. This is not meant to be judgemental to the individual perfumes in this range, rather a general comment on the outcomes that Tom Ford's 'big' perfumes create.

The exception, however, is his lovely Neroli Portofino. This IS a fragrance that I wear to work as it is so fresh, and one simply wafts all-day in, surprise, surprise, a deep neroli way!

There's not really a pyramid here: the blast of neroli that one typically associates with most perfume's top-notes IS the perfume, albeit with a smidgeon of vanilla and amber in the twilight of the perfume's day.

There's a risk, perhaps, that the linear trajectory of Neroli Portofino might end up being a bit boring for some. Indeed, most unlike the Frederick Malle edition, Geranium Pour Monsieur that I recently reviewed, there's no mystique, deeper enquiry, weirdness, or any sudden olfactory 'rabbit-out-of the-hat' with this baby. It's just yummy, clean, neroli layered upon more citrus and neroli!

And for reasons that might remain opaque: I always imagine this as a house fragrance for Tony (Soprano) and his naughty associates.
