Genie in a Bottle by Trance Essence is fragrance for women. The nose behind this fragrance is Janna Sheehan. The fragrance features jasmin exotic oil, vanilla, organic frankinsence, bittersweet chocolate, black tea, and organic black pepper. It comes in 60ml edp bottle, 3,75ml pure perfume and as a scent candle. Genie in a Bottle was launched in 2008.
I tried it once so far so I may have to update this. At first it is very strong and sweet, perhaps best described as a confusion of overpowering notes. When I smell the sprayer after taking the cap off, it smells a bit like Charles Jourdan The Parfum. Anyway, within an hour or so, the strength drops off considerably, leaving more of a skin scent behind. At this point, the notes have good clarity and there is a very nice interplay between the sweet/gourmand aspects and the dry tea and pepper (and perhaps frankincense as well). I definitely consider it unisex (after the strong opening dissipates), if not a bit more masculine. The only thing I have to determine in the future, I think, is if it is strong enough after the opening subsides. Otherwise, I really like it.
UPDATE: On the second regular wearing, it seemed very medicinal at first and not that sweet. There is also a kind of "soapy" quality, though one I consider to be pleasant, unlike strong lavender or spice soapiness. After a few hours, it seems to really come together, a soft vanilla with hints of the other notes. Some may say this is not an "exciting" fragrance, and compared to many that I can't tolerate, they may be right, for them, but not for me. This is the kind of fragrance I'm seeking these days.
In a way it is similar to Angel, but it is less intrusive. Although the ingredients don't list coconut, the beginning smelled to my nose as a coconut oil. Later vanilla and chocolate make their way to the surface. It is a lovely gourmand scent that will not put to shame your taste.
My friend received a sample card of this. She left it in her purse. I kept smelling the intoxicating aroma and couldn't put my finger on it! The more I smelled, the more I fell in love. It's heady with the Jasmine & Black Pepper. The Frankinsence and tea are definitely there and remind me of strolling by a spice stand in an open market, very alluring while the exotic vanilla is sweet but not too sweet. I think the bitter chocolate takes away or equals out the heavy sweetness. I'm on the hunt for a bottle of this spicey heaven!
