Nu Fragrance Reviews

The original Nu EDP by YSL was a beautifully mysterious, spicey oriental. I loved the packaging, which seemed new and differant in 2001 as did the fragrance itself. There was a dark sexiness to this that made it a perfect evening fragrance. Good sillage and super longevity....NOW A WARNING... LOREAL HAVE DESTROYED IT. NU by Loreal is a wet and windy cheap copy of NU in the cheapest nastiest bottle. Loreal are fucking up every perfume with integrity that YSL ever produced. It is now cheap juice for mega bucks. I fear to smell the new Y as im still in therapy over the reformulated Opium. Loreal sucks.

I like this more and more every time I wear it! I have the original (in the round bottle), given to me by a friend who didn't enjoy it. I love the spiciness and I find it loaded with musk too. The sandalwood in the drydown is just gorgeous. I'd be interested to smell this on a man, I think it would work well.

Nu is the perfect night perfume. Very modern, complex and long lasting. This is for confident outgoing lady. Some say this is gay man's fragrance. Never the less Nu has very masculine top note (pepper) later it turns sweet and spicy. My wife loves it more on me than her. I use it occasionally, when she demands it.

This is going to sound weird but Nu brings back memories of entering a pet shop. It must smell like seeds they use to feed birds and rabbits or something?
I'll have to test it again on my skin to make sure, but last time I tried it I couldn't think of anything else.

I absolutely love this BUT it lasts about 10 minutes on my skin. I bought this at a great discount and still I feel like I've been ripped off! pure junk!

this review is for the original version.

And I cant believe how poor the quality is, I've read so many good reviews... very dissapointing

A masterpiece. I really hated this is at first, when I was younger. But mom wore it once, and I was hooked! I will never forget my first reaction, when she wore it. WHAT IS THAT??!! I need it! Lol.

This is not for the average women. It is really a statement parfume. And def unisex. This is a spicy warm parfume, yet feminine and modern.

Absolutee lovee! So happy it is back!

when tom ford worked for YSL he created this scent with jacques cavallier. i think you can smell both of their noses in it.
nu is a g-g-gorgeus blend of floral and spicy notes with great longevity. i wouldn't quite call it unisex, but a (maybe gay) man could probably get away with it. i was wearing it the other day, and a woman i work with told me that i always smell so good. and in my head i was thinking "that's because i'm a fragrance-obsessed gay guy!"

Nu is the perfect night perfume for a modern lady.
Nu is very masculine at the beggining, with all the breathtaking pepper.
After one hour Nu becomes sandalwood heaven. Soft, spicy, sweet, modern and sexy.
If you cant find this one, or want a cheaper version, go for Ode au Reve by Yves Rocher, they are very similar.
A very good fragrance for ladys that dont appreciate very feminine perfumes and are more in the androginous side.

In the Netherlands are the new botlles available at douglas.nl. They have Yvresse, Jazz, M7, Rive Gauche, Y, YSL Pour homme, In love again and NU. The botlle's are all 80 ml and prices are 73 up to 93 euro's. I hoped i have helped to answer your question about the new bottles.

Endymion......Body Kouros is also back on track:))and M7. I personaly don't think that formulation of M7 and Nu is changed, thay were not avelible for some time because L'oreal bought YSL(fragrance and make up company)after the designers deth. After that we can see a lot of changes for example the canged bottle of Opium and lot of new fragrances.

A friend of mine has tested these new ones. They share bottle design, shape & size. All of them 80 ml and unique price, 77 euros.
He said they have been reformulated for worse and watered. So if you like or use to wear these ones, hurry up to make 'storage' of the current production because very soon it will be difficult to find any of them the way we know by now (presentation, formulation and price). good luck!!!

Actually, I never new that M7, Rive Gauche pour homme and Jazz were discontinued!!! :(
(as Y and Yvresse)
They are still available here in their original packaging. I even saw Pour Homme in some places around.

I think it means they stop producing their original packaging now. This means P&G (owner of YSL brand) decided to distinctly separate the new generation and well selling fragrances from old not that popular releases.

I have to pack Rive Gauche pour homme and M7 a lot!!! :)

You can find the info on the international YSL website.

The reissues are called "La collection": Nu (EdP), Y, Yvresse and In Love again; for the boys: Rive Gauche PH, Pour Homme, Jazz and M7 Oud Absolu (THAT'S sound intriguing).

Let's hope for the original formula of Nu EdP. But I stay sceptic until sniffed.

Has anybody infos on release dates, availability and prices?

P.S.: Oh, by the way: The funny Nu bottles are "lost". The packaging is different.

Nu opens with strong cardamom, bergamot and pepper--an entrance with a very deliberate statement that says spicy, sexy and sizzling... almost overpowering like a lightning strike. Then suddenly after the loud storm, rain...

Sweet voluptuous drops of milky, musky sap, very prominent with orchid and jasmine. And the musk keeps coming in floods but it's clear and luminous, not cloying.

Beautiful and warm in the drydown with sandalwood adding a wave of sensuality; a drop of vetiver for sophisticated audacity.

Too much musk for me to wear it regularly, although it's one I think my husband would appreciate on my skin ;)

I loved the sound of this one, but when I actually tried it I found the musk overpowering and the base a little bitter. Reminds me a bit of Rive Gauche at first. Sadly, this is not for me. I like the design of the bottle, though.

I am not sure if some of you will agree but NU is very much similar to Kingdom by Alexander McQueen. In both cases it was Jacques Cavallier who created the fragrances.
NU is a wonderful mix of woods and spices, I can imagine it to be worn by an executive or company director - it makes a statement, it is powerful and extremely elegant. I would consider it inappropriate to be worn while jogging on a Saturday morning - this fragrance would simply not go with a casual stretchy jumper and leggins.
NU is very spicy with only a hint of jasmine and strong vetiver base. What makes it slightly different from Kingdom is that NU does not oscillate on the borderline between masculine and feminine fragrances - even thought NU is quite strong and hardly floral, it is definitely on the women's side.
I have not own a gem like that for quite a long time :-)
Highly recommended for spicy lovers.
Silage and lasting power are outstanding!

Marketed as sexy, and actually was. Positively leer inducing on many occasions. Lots and lots of "you smell niiice.." from guys. It's spicier and cleverer than Dior Addict and its a great shame it was discontinued as it's really the more deserving of your money. But it's initially slightly more sullen than Addict but when it warms up, it really warms up. Addict wants your phone number, but Nu will actually call.. and come round.. and.. and then stay and talk after.

Oh, I like this.

The EDT has prominent white floral notes. Jasmine and something else--neroli?-- jump at me. However, they are dirty, indolic. And absent in the EDP.

The two formulations share a nice incense base, but are really two different fragrances.

I find the EDP special, strange, seductive. There is indeed something "bare" about it--as if the edt removed its clothing (the white flowers), and now wears only its base notes (wood, vetiver, a touch of cedar, with some pepper and bergomot for accessories. Bare, nude, yes; but not sheer, not light. The base is substantial.

And let's face it: you have to have at least one perfume bottle shaped like a hockey puck.

I adore this creation from campaing through package and design to the fragrance itself. I thought that it was going to be a HUGE hit, the Opium of the new millenium - as it is mysterious, heavy, dark, smokey, a bit unisex, spicy, unmistakable, memorable, controversial.
Sadly, the opposite happened, the lifeline of NU was short. (I wonder if NU was released under the house of Gucci it would be still available and popular?)

Anyhow, the name NU might not be the best choice as many people disaggree with and don't like it.
IMO the name (YSL) NUIT would suit the fragrance much better as it is dark and myserious (and according to many it's more relaxing than "sexual" or erotic).

Oh my god, this is some strong and spicy stuff. On my skin at the first moments it opens with burst of cardamon and pepper. I can feel slight touch of bergamot, but really just slight. At the opening it's almost masculine.
Slowly the orchid hits in and for me the fragrance becomes tiny bit soapy which is not my favourite kind of scent. I prefer them creamy or powdery, but not soapy. When the jasmin appears, it's all fixed.
I'll be honest hear, it's not my style. But this smells lovely and would be a WIN for one who loves spices in their fumes.

Nu edp is great....so unique and memorable. When purchasing a fragrance, I look for those two qualities before anything else. Being that some of my favorite notes are incense, patchouli, vetiver and sandalwood, it was only natural for me to take a strong liking to this perfume.

Nu starts off very woody and musky on me. As it goes down to its ending notes, the patchouli(very quiet I might add), vetiver and sandalwood blend so efforvescently that I always wonder why I don't wear this more. Such a wonderful job they have done with the blending.

I have loved this since I first smelled it in 2001, and nearly 10 years later, still love it as much as I did then.

Also, and this is just my opinion, but, I think Nu smells kind of similar to Dior's '79 gem, Dioressence. A little less animalistic, but quite similar with the musky woody vibe. Beautiful!

When I first put on Nu and the fumes floated to the back of my head, it was like a ghost of *something* I had smelled before, but not quite, and I couldn't put my finger on it exactly. Within ten minutes, though, I recognized the similarities to Lanvin's Oxygene! The unmistakable bergamont-pepper duo, and the underlying CREAMINESS (milk in Oxygene, orchid-musk in Nu). Oxygene was one of my first fragrances, and it was a pleasure to sniff this new take on the show-stopper unique combination of bergamont and pepper.

While Oxygene was happy to stay at the citrusy-peppery opening, making it a great daytime chic scent, Nu almost immediately sheds the bergamont top notes and wanders into deeper waters. I think the "sexiness" other readers smell comes from orchid, which is quite heady and animalistic in this spicy combination. Heart-warming, rich, and striking.

Nu reminds me of a sophisticated woman clothed in texture. The silky black dress of jasmine petals, the scratchy peppers of her rough fur stole, the creamy animalistic butteriness of her leather purse. The florals, peppers, and animal notes combine in this unique textile experience that, for me, is the fascination of Nu.

Yum-Yum Gimme Some! This potion is addicitve. Like cinsot said in the review below, when I spray Nu, I'm always tempted to over spray it, because it's so tempting. I have both Nu and Nu Eau De Toilette. There's a slight difference in the composition, but this one is way more intense than the other version. It's heady, spicy and super-duper sexy. The cardamom and pepper are just blazing hot in this fragrance. I don't think I've ever smelled a fragrance as sexy as this. This perfeume is Umami! It's enticing, edgy, seductive, passionate, addictive, intense, and supersensual. Unleash the dragon ladies, because this animalistic hypnotic concoction doesn't disappoint the fellas!

This is very nice but no big surprise to someone who's worn Kingdom, Theo Fennell and other such spicy wonders. It's a nice, sexy, peppery unisex scent which manages to smell 'clean' too which is nice, maybe from the vetiver. It has fantastic sillage and longevity and dwarfed the Cartier that I had sprayed on the other wrist! It's bottle worthy if you have the cash spare but I wouldn't pay over the odds for it as it's not distinctively different enough.

This is a love of mine. Incense! Lovers of incense look for this. This is a cool incense, as if one has found the coolness of a church or temple in hot weather. Pepper plays out in the beginning and then the incense. Some spice in the dry down. There is also a touch of green. This is one 'spicy-oriental' that is for me wearable in the summer. Strong sillage and much longevity. Smells wonderful for days after on my clothing. It has been discontinued--I'll be buying more to hide away.

Never had I ever before found a fragrance that so perfectly matched the bottle it comes in. This scent has a air of strength and steely sophistication. It has its own unique personality. It reminds me of leather, metal, something a rockstar would wear or a dominatrix. This scent is for the no nonsense woman who knows who she is and what she wants. I really like this scent but find that something about it bothers my nose. Its truely a unique and powerful scent anyhow.

This was a first love for me-a spicy oriental that is definitely modern and edgy. The metallic color so perfectly matches the essence of the scent-spicy but clean. It unfold beautifully with good longevity. I get a lot of warm base notes with vanilla. There is a significant difference between the EdP and the EdT in the blue bottle, the EdP being more round and plush.

Dark, rich, dynamic, mysterious. Not everybody's cup of tea but it sure does have a character. Almost like a human. You need time to get to know with this one. You will feel its presence a day after. Talking about the edt only. The edp is even more long lasting. It does not let go for over 40 hours.

This reminds me of my mum! It really is very powerful, but not in a sweet or heady way. It has a very masculine, leathery quality to it...but is a very sexy, deep & spicy scent. All the listed ingredients can easily be found in this fragrance - peppery, woody & depthy, refreshed by bergamot, a little goes a long way. A night-time signature scent - you won't find many like this...& you'll either love it or loathe it.

I find Nu to be very masculine scent. Deep and sexy. Very daring and bold. I see a woman with a red lipstick wearing some extravagant outfit, high heels, very self-confident. Could it be me? Not sure yet. But I agree with everybody here - remarkable fragrance!

P.S. dry down reminds me some spa aromas, very sensual.

I've been sampling the Nu Eau de Parfum for the last week off and on. I didn't like it at first, but it has grown on me. I don't usually wear skin/musk type scents. I don't care for the top notes on this one. They smell a bit sour or bitter at first. However, they quickly warm to something soft and sexy. Good combo of sandalwood and musk in the base. Not quite my style, but if you're a fan of skin scents or musk, this is a good one to try.
