Hi.

A sensual fusion between the intense passion of a heroine and the timeless power of YSL.the structure of NU is oriental that evokes a timeless era of femininity.she turns up her natural charm and distiction into a true power of attraction for a unforgettable moment of sensual abandon.i really love this passionate,Powerful, Exciting,Spicy,Sensual, Glamorous,Intriguing,Classy and Gorgeous scent.

The fragrance composition on cardamom head notes more freshed with a hint of bergamot.at the heart a bewitching orchid accord by a full note of incense and exotic touches of jasmine which add sensuality and powerful to the scent and harmonize over a luxurious and special base rife with woody notes.the result is an intense and seductive fusion for the ultimate woman.it is perfect for a special evening in autumn/winter.

Sillage?Impressive.

Longevity?Good on my skin.

This fragrance is rather captivating.

Nu is quite a spicy and sharp fragrance at first. As it settles, the jasmine and iris tend to create a soft, loving bouquet, which is complimented by rather peppery cardamom. The overall blend has a somewhat smoky aroma.

Nu is not a fragrance for the shy. There are so many dynamic ingredients that it's quite flabbergasting to find how beautifully balanced they all become on the skin. It's an incense-based fragrance, yes. However, the pepper and floral accords really give this fragrance that little something more.

The longevity is really impressive, as is the sillage.

I found the tester vial that I had been saving since this perfume was launched in the early 2000s. Before spraying it, I recalled the fond memories of having tested this scent when it was first introduced, and thinking, lovely, deep, dark, but too mature for me (I was barely in my twenties).

So today, in 2013, I finally unleashed the spirit in the little vial and immediately I was overcome by a pleasant waft of intense chai latte mixed with incense. Yes, these woods are lovely, dark and deep (Robert Frost), but also sweet, feminine, delicious, warm, enchanting, oh the list goes on... the only thing in my mind right now is.. how many sprays of this amazing smell do I have left in this vial, before it ceases to exist in the realms of reality? I am kicking myself for not having trusted my instinct back in the days, and purchasing a full bottle of this mystical scent.

Glorious. I will be saving it for special occasions.

Just got this today in the mail. First spray is pepper. I am in love!! After a while the pepper goes away and I get a lot of citrus and spice. Then some wood. Lovely fragrance. Hopefully I will find it again when I need another bottle, as this is a repurchase when this one is empty!

I finally opened my bottle of the original EDP in the mysterious puck. I had been so afraid of the cardamom note, as sometimes spices can make a perfume stink. But not here...this woodsy, musky perfume is a warm, deep, smooth, and sensual scent, that makes your mind wander...

It is all about lounging in the dark on a luxurious steel gray silk quilt, exactly like the color of the bottle. Her skin and NU are one and the same. Flickering candles seem to make the sequins on the pillows dance about while you wait. Then it comes...a soft knock at the door...

I wish I had this back when I could have used it to live that scene rather than just to imagine it. This perfume was a wonderful surprise, and next time, I will not wait half a year before opening a sealed bottle of perfume.

I can clearly see what inspired Tom Ford when creating Black Orchid. Both Nu and Black Orchid has Tom Ford touch, spices, incense, orchid notes, masculine edge (additional chocolate in BO) ... Both perfumes are superb in my opinion, it may not be everyone's taste but they are quite original and different.

Boy oh boy Jacques Cavallier I don't know how you do it but I adore the perfumes you make!! My nose is not experienced enough to pick out any particular notes, maybe because they are blended in such a superb way. But this is a heavenly, heady, sensual rich & decadent floral and wow wow wow just stunning. This ain't for the little girls, this is for a woman and I am in love with Nu!

Nu EDP (Yves Saint Laurent)

Mais uma excepcional criação do ilustríssimo Jacques Cavallier, pai do Trouble, Cinema, Elle, M7, Stella, Alchimie, Poeme, Classique e flankers, L’eau d’Issey, Hot Couture, Initial, Murmure, Midnight Poison e Kingdom... Ufpa!

Créditos a minha Amiga Andréa Faria Klimber!

I have had a bottle of this for years because it reminds me of a special place/event. I almost never wear it - it's one of those perfumes that has appealing elements, but is not quite balanced: I like the woodiness and spices, but overall it's too shrill, and a little too sweaty. The bottle leaks if it falls sideways, so it must be kept upright. I've tried the version in the off-white bottle: new, but not improved.

I loved the opening of Nu - so richly woody and warm - it's the dry-down that doesn't work for me. The Vetiver and pepper (synthetic sandalwood?)are quite hard, I'm left with zero vanilla or incense.

I find vetiver in perfume varies drastically. Having owned high quality vetiver essential oil, I know that it's very pungent, but it's not necessarily sharp, it's more intense, almost smoky. I can't see what else would cause this harsh dry-down, though it could be a synthetic sandalwood. If that's the case it's a pity because the original Nu, with quality sandalwood, would have been lovely.

I actually nicked this perfume from my parents' closet and have been wearing it for around a week now and I am really loving the spice and woody notes in this. And to be honest, only now did I find out that it was a female fragrance! The oriental spice, musk and incense really spoke to me and I am totally loving this. Don't care that it says its for women, the juice is so amazing that it can easily the perfect unisex fragrance.

GOR-juss! One of my absolute favorites. The current reformulation is not a bad fragrance, but the original (edp only) is glorious. So smooth and atmospheric and evocative. All the incense, flowers, spices and gorgeousness. I don't love the "hockey puck" bottle though. Today I layered it with prada oeillet, and I felt like they worked very well together.

A truly sacred and profane perfume Nu is probably best summed up by the phrase 'orgy in the temple'.

With a deft hand it mixes conventions of Eastern and Western worship - opening with olibanum, cardamon and bergamot giving way to oriental florals.

It then proceeds to an highly sexualised heart; all pagan pepper and more frankincense this time with animalic musk.

This fragrant frenzy persists for proper period, though it is more tantric in the prefereable Eau de Parfum than its bang for you buck less spiritual cousin.

In both the drydown is sandalwood soft and gently reflective, possibly tinged with a subtle regret or is it a passion hangover?

Who cares? Ultimately, strip away away the symbolism and everyone's in it for the ride!

Unisex?

Bi-sexual more like.

I don't think this one's too fussy about all those fuzzy male female distinctions...

This is, no doubt, my favorite scent. I usually say that NU is the new Feminité du Bois, not by the similarity, but by discontinuity and by difficulty of finding. He has just becoming a new legend, that arouses interest and curiosity of those who have never felt it. I had the privilege to know it in 2002, just one year after its launch. It's funny, I tested it at the same time of M7. NU I loved it instantly, M7 I hated it instantly. Feeling paradoxical but instinctive. I still have saved some bottles, it is very difficult to find. I have both the EDP (raw and androgynous) and EDT (is softer and floral). It's my scent, because I chose it for me, regardless of other people use it or don't like it.

I wanted to like this and when I finally tracked it down - it turned out to be very harsh and one dimensional on my skin. A get a very aggressive, almost sour woody thing which was very disappointing - but it smells great on my husband. He gets all the smoky, earthy and moody, mystery darkness that I was hoping for - so I get to enjoy smelling it on him and that's a win for me.

Well well well.....as much as I want to love Nu because of the edgy looking packaging, I couldn't 100% love this stuff. It's kinda roller coaster for me. Hate it, hmm...okay with it and finally love it.

Although I love cardamon, the blend of the top notes is just wrong, doesn't fit my chemistry at all. It's just too much cardamon + something else, which turns sour like I'm having a BO. IMO the top notes somehow has similar vibe with DK, Chaos, a little bit sour and yet spicy.

The mid notes is better though, it gets calmer the annoying sourness is gradually missing. The floral is there and a little bit powdery with hints of earthy vetiver.

But the drydown is WOW. It's smokey with a touch of sweetness. It somehow reminds me of Corso Como 10, but without the dominant oud. Instant LOVEEE!!!

Well, I'm coming in late to post a review for this perfume. It's been on my wishlist for years, I even lost my Addict in trying to obtain one of this from an unfair swapper... as we speak, I'm waiting for a decant from somebody, while I managed to get my hands on a large full tester of the old NU, in the metal round bottle.
Blind bought, it lightened my wallet considerably.
Well, what can I say.... sometimes we don't know what we're wishing for... it's a Wood$Spice Bomb!

It openes with a blast of pepper and cinamon, darker even than the old Addict.it's spices and red woods, bloody red if you ask me. While the bottle/box is a deep cold royal blue inside, the juice is sizzling hot red in smell.
It doesn't help that I am testing in July, in the middle of a heat wave, but this one is for sure a fragrance for the coldest darkest winter nights...reminds me of naked bodies in front of a fireplace, right there on the floor adornished with furs, the light is dancing shaddows on their flesh, spilled red cider on the floor
when tender kisses turn to bites...
well, it's July and I can't feast on this beast...
wake up, and splash some fresh citrus cologne, and get myself to do what I am suposed to do
is it for me?
I wanted it for so long, and now that I have it... it was better when I didnt.
might have to swap it, I don't know.

The other day I faced this fragrance - the original version of EDP, sniffed it on my skin and was absolutely astonished! It has got the deep colour of whiskey and a slight stylish taste of metallica, in a pleasant way, of course. Everything about it: the bottle, the name and the content is intriguing and alluring, it feels very emotional, but not outspoken, it's rather still in the state of readiness for action - blowing up, emotional explosion, whatever, but not in the twister of energy. There's something more to keep than to reveal, more to cover than discover.
This scent contains altogether amazing touches ever that all the perfumes I love contain. It is as sweeet as a dream and I want it.

For me, I love this, it's the little sister to Eau de Gucci (dark browwn heavy 90s bottle) instead of corriander there is carraway in gucci, yet gucci still smells of cardamom to me as well. And while this is lighter it has the overal same feel as gucci, only gucci has leather ... and well, definently lasts longer . If you like this but find the longevity to be poor, give gucci a try

It has a modern smoky allure, for a woman who might have worn TB back in the day. This has a timeless quality though, a decade old it is not at all outdated. This fragrance seems to have always had a place among a cetain type of woman.

At first I had the soap, and then I layered the EDT. Some of the compliments I attribute to this fragrance:

"You shouldn't wear bangs or dark hair, your aura is mysterious and dark already." a hairdresser.

"You drink the most incredible coffee. Wait? Can I smell your coffee?" a coworker in the breakroom hall.

And the ever allusive "Can I hug you again?"

I stumbled upon a nice sealed flacon of this in its original formula.

The bottle is just about the coolest thing I've ever seen. In case one hasn't seen it, it's a silver disk with no markings whatsoever. It opens up like a compact and is a deep translucent ultraviolet inside. It is exceptionally pleasing in a modern industrial way, and it fits very well in your hand.

The bottle aside, the fragrance is a killer. It's sort of like a more stripped down and modern version of the original Fendi fragrance. It's warm and incensey with a very tasteful sandalwood note. It shares the incense note of the modern Opium EDT. One of YSL's best feminine fragrances. It's a shame it's so had to come upon.

Nu perfectly fits my idea that when you find yourself facing a good fragrance, it doesn't matter if it's niche or designer, masculine or feminine, new or vintage, classic or modern...it's just good and all you can do is to enjoy it.

This is when Tom Ford used to be brilliant, passionate and smart just right before his ego turned into an oversized monster. During those years he delivered, together with extremely talented perfumers, a bunch of outstanding fragrances that people still love and will always love (Envy, Envy For Men, Gucci Pour Homme I, Rive Gauche Pour Hommme, M7, a bunch of Kouros flankers....Nu).

The fragrance opens with a catchy citrus/frankincense combo enriched by a modern peppery note. Just terrific. The orchid accord breaks in almost right away introducing a synthetic woody base with a remarkable spicy (cardamom) presence while incense provides a slightly sexy/smoky vibe. Ok, there's something synthetic going on here, but it's nowhere close to the overwhelming assault we often witness in most of today's compositions. The synthetic aspect is carefully balanced with the rest and handled to provide depth and complexity. Perfectly contextualized and never overdone. If you're into spicy orientals you can't miss NU.

Reasonably powerful, long lasting, nice projection. A fine feminine composition that turns to be terrific on a man.

For the original EDP: Nu smells and makes you feel almost holy. Indeed, that could be the next best thing to Commme des Garçons' Avignon. Finest quality incense (Frankincense and Myrrh, to be smelt in a church or monastery) is finely blended with soothing blackpepper. Some woods on the base complete this masterpiece. Nu really is a divine experience...

I could eat myself whenever I wear this perfume, sooo spicy and yummy.
It opens with lots of black pepper and cardamom, blended with some woody scent; very deep and smooth. When it truly dries down, about 3-4 hours later, orchid and bergamot come and make the scent lighter.
It can be perfect in the Winter or Autumn, day or night time.
I think I am addicted to this fume.
This perfume is the only one I buy a backup so far.

The original Nu EDP by YSL was a beautifully mysterious, spicey oriental. I loved the packaging, which seemed new and differant in 2001 as did the fragrance itself. There was a dark sexiness to this that made it a perfect evening fragrance. Good sillage and super longevity....NOW A WARNING... LOREAL HAVE DESTROYED IT. NU by Loreal is a wet and windy cheap copy of NU in the cheapest nastiest bottle. Loreal are fucking up every perfume with integrity that YSL ever produced. It is now cheap juice for mega bucks. I fear to smell the new Y as im still in therapy over the reformulated Opium. Loreal sucks.

Nu is the perfect night perfume for a modern lady.
Nu is very masculine at the beggining, with all the breathtaking pepper.
After one hour Nu becomes sandalwood heaven. Soft, spicy, sweet, modern and sexy.

Actually, I never new that M7, Rive Gauche pour homme and Jazz were discontinued!!! :(
(as Y and Yvresse)
They are still available here in their original packaging. I even saw Pour Homme in some places around.

I think it means they stop producing their original packaging now. This means P&G (owner of YSL brand) decided to distinctly separate the new generation and well selling fragrances from old not that popular releases.

I have to pack Rive Gauche pour homme and M7 a lot!!! :)

Let's hope for the original formula of Nu EdP. But I stay sceptic until sniffed.

Has anybody infos on release dates, availability and prices?

P.S.: Oh, by the way: The funny Nu bottles are "lost". The packaging is different.

That was my favorite perfume EVER and I still haven't got over it, nor have I found sth to replace it.
Can some one suggest me sth pls?!
I love the pepper, it makes all the difference tickling my nose, and I love how it has nothing to do with vanilla or rose. It is so special and exotic and warm at the same time!
Please bring it back?!?!? :(

Nu opens with strong cardamom, bergamot and pepper--an entrance with a very deliberate statement that says spicy, sexy and sizzling... almost overpowering like a lightning strike. Then suddenly after the loud storm, rain...

Sweet voluptuous drops of milky, musky sap, very prominent with orchid and jasmine. And the musk keeps coming in floods but it's clear and luminous, not cloying.

Beautiful and warm in the drydown with sandalwood adding a wave of sensuality; a drop of vetiver for sophisticated audacity.

Too much musk for me to wear it regularly, although it's one I think my husband would appreciate on my skin ;)

I loved the sound of this one, but when I actually tried it I found the musk overpowering and the base a little bitter. Reminds me a bit of Rive Gauche at first. Sadly, this is not for me. I like the design of the bottle, though.

I am not sure if some of you will agree but NU is very much similar to Kingdom by Alexander McQueen. In both cases it was Jacques Cavallier who created the fragrances.
NU is a wonderful mix of woods and spices, I can imagine it to be worn by an executive or company director - it makes a statement, it is powerful and extremely elegant. I would consider it inappropriate to be worn while jogging on a Saturday morning - this fragrance would simply not go with a casual stretchy jumper and leggins.
NU is very spicy with only a hint of jasmine and strong vetiver base. What makes it slightly different from Kingdom is that NU does not oscillate on the borderline between masculine and feminine fragrances - even thought NU is quite strong and hardly floral, it is definitely on the women's side.
I have not own a gem like that for quite a long time :-)
Highly recommended for spicy lovers.
Silage and lasting power are outstanding!

Marketed as sexy, and actually was. Positively leer inducing on many occasions. Lots and lots of "you smell niiice.." from guys. It's spicier and cleverer than Dior Addict and its a great shame it was discontinued as it's really the more deserving of your money. But it's initially slightly more sullen than Addict but when it warms up, it really warms up. Addict wants your phone number, but Nu will actually call.. and come round.. and.. and then stay and talk after.

I adore this creation from campaing through package and design to the fragrance itself. I thought that it was going to be a HUGE hit, the Opium of the new millenium - as it is mysterious, heavy, dark, smokey, a bit unisex, spicy, unmistakable, memorable, controversial.
Sadly, the opposite happened, the lifeline of NU was short. (I wonder if NU was released under the house of Gucci it would be still available and popular?)

Anyhow, the name NU might not be the best choice as many people disaggree with and don't like it.
IMO the name (YSL) NUIT would suit the fragrance much better as it is dark and myserious (and according to many it's more relaxing than "sexual" or erotic).

Oh my god, this is some strong and spicy stuff. On my skin at the first moments it opens with burst of cardamon and pepper. I can feel slight touch of bergamot, but really just slight. At the opening it's almost masculine.
Slowly the orchid hits in and for me the fragrance becomes tiny bit soapy which is not my favourite kind of scent. I prefer them creamy or powdery, but not soapy. When the jasmin appears, it's all fixed.
I'll be honest hear, it's not my style. But this smells lovely and would be a WIN for one who loves spices in their fumes.

When I first put on Nu and the fumes floated to the back of my head, it was like a ghost of *something* I had smelled before, but not quite, and I couldn't put my finger on it exactly. Within ten minutes, though, I recognized the similarities to Lanvin's Oxygene! The unmistakable bergamont-pepper duo, and the underlying CREAMINESS (milk in Oxygene, orchid-musk in Nu). Oxygene was one of my first fragrances, and it was a pleasure to sniff this new take on the show-stopper unique combination of bergamont and pepper.

While Oxygene was happy to stay at the citrusy-peppery opening, making it a great daytime chic scent, Nu almost immediately sheds the bergamont top notes and wanders into deeper waters. I think the "sexiness" other readers smell comes from orchid, which is quite heady and animalistic in this spicy combination. Heart-warming, rich, and striking.

Nu reminds me of a sophisticated woman clothed in texture. The silky black dress of jasmine petals, the scratchy peppers of her rough fur stole, the creamy animalistic butteriness of her leather purse. The florals, peppers, and animal notes combine in this unique textile experience that, for me, is the fascination of Nu.

I had it 4 years ago, I uesd to love the feeling of being swamped by it (the longevity, yes), then I got pregnant (surely much to do with wearing NU;-)and I just couldn't be anywhere near it anymore. 4 years and two babies later I fondly recall the feeling, but I know it would be too much for me now, love it anyway.

This is very nice but no big surprise to someone who's worn Kingdom, Theo Fennell and other such spicy wonders. It's a nice, sexy, peppery unisex scent which manages to smell 'clean' too which is nice, maybe from the vetiver. It has fantastic sillage and longevity and dwarfed the Cartier that I had sprayed on the other wrist! It's bottle worthy if you have the cash spare but I wouldn't pay over the odds for it as it's not distinctively different enough.

This is a love of mine. Incense! Lovers of incense look for this. This is a cool incense, as if one has found the coolness of a church or temple in hot weather. Pepper plays out in the beginning and then the incense. Some spice in the dry down. There is also a touch of green. This is one 'spicy-oriental' that is for me wearable in the summer. Strong sillage and much longevity. Smells wonderful for days after on my clothing. It has been discontinued--I'll be buying more to hide away.

Never had I ever before found a fragrance that so perfectly matched the bottle it comes in. This scent has a air of strength and steely sophistication. It has its own unique personality. It reminds me of leather, metal, something a rockstar would wear or a dominatrix. This scent is for the no nonsense woman who knows who she is and what she wants. I really like this scent but find that something about it bothers my nose. Its truely a unique and powerful scent anyhow.

This was a first love for me-a spicy oriental that is definitely modern and edgy. The metallic color so perfectly matches the essence of the scent-spicy but clean. It unfold beautifully with good longevity. I get a lot of warm base notes with vanilla. There is a significant difference between the EdP and the EdT in the blue bottle, the EdP being more round and plush.

Dark, rich, dynamic, mysterious. Not everybody's cup of tea but it sure does have a character. Almost like a human. You need time to get to know with this one. You will feel its presence a day after. Talking about the edt only. The edp is even more long lasting. It does not let go for over 40 hours.

This reminds me of my mum! It really is very powerful, but not in a sweet or heady way. It has a very masculine, leathery quality to it...but is a very sexy, deep & spicy scent. All the listed ingredients can easily be found in this fragrance - peppery, woody & depthy, refreshed by bergamot, a little goes a long way. A night-time signature scent - you won't find many like this...& you'll either love it or loathe it.

I find Nu to be very masculine scent. Deep and sexy. Very daring and bold. I see a woman with a red lipstick wearing some extravagant outfit, high heels, very self-confident. Could it be me? Not sure yet. But I agree with everybody here - remarkable fragrance!

P.S. dry down reminds me some spa aromas, very sensual.

My problem is quite common as I see here. I fell in love with Nu, it's the only perfume I have been wearing for the past 6 years and now that it has become my signature perfume it stopped being produced!!!I have been searching for a replacement for the last weeks but nothing can be compared to it and my heart is broken. If anyone can suggest me spicy perfume like this to try I will be grateful..

Nu is a stunning warm orchid scent, nothing like it. I prefer the EDP to the EDT and the body cream is divine.
Another revelation for me was layering Nu with just a hint of musk oil, just spectacular!

The orchid note remains true to the end and the lasting power of Nu is phenomenal

I've been sampling the Nu Eau de Parfum for the last week off and on. I didn't like it at first, but it has grown on me. I don't usually wear skin/musk type scents. I don't care for the top notes on this one. They smell a bit sour or bitter at first. However, they quickly warm to something soft and sexy. Good combo of sandalwood and musk in the base. Not quite my style, but if you're a fan of skin scents or musk, this is a good one to try.
