Topic: Best (blueish/dark) red lipstick for cold undertones

Hey  smile

this topic is similar to omixochitls topic about the best red lipstick. The difference is that I definitely have a cold undertone to my skin. I'm quite fair and have brown hair and hazel eyes.

I'm not always confident enough to pull off red lipstick because I feel like I haven't found the perfect color for me yet.

I love matte lipsticks that DON'T dry out my already dry lips. I own a M.A.C. lipstick which I love but it's not red..rather a plum color.

An affordable blueish (but not pink!) red lipstick, preferably matte or at least not super shiny would be great!!!

oh and I do like darker shades as long as they don't make me look like a vampire  wink

Hope you guys have some suggestions for me  roll

I feel like matte is not totally in style right now, because everything I find in drugstores and department stores is usually pretty shiny these days.  hmm

Re: Best (blueish/dark) red lipstick for cold undertones

I also have a cool tone, but I get a tan in the summer even though I wear SPF, so I had to look for a Red that was blue, but more toward the neutral so it looked ok in the summer, I ended up with Estee Lauder Scarlet Siren  74

I think this is a fairly neutral, but still blue toned colour, it`s lovely.

Re: Best (blueish/dark) red lipstick for cold undertones

Thanks! That one looks good but I think it's a little out of my budget. I was looking for something between 10 and 18 Euro approximately. Should have said that earlier  smile

It could even be a little darker.. I just found that picture and really like the shade. It's a burgundy red, close to purple. But still red in my opinion. Do you think this is good for light skin with a blue undertone?

Does anyone know a color like this? Or something else that goes in that direction?

Re: Best (blueish/dark) red lipstick for cold undertones

I can only judge from the pictures google showed me. But isn't cherries in the snow rather pink?

Re: Best (blueish/dark) red lipstick for cold undertones

wow great pics! Really like the Diva and wild cherry bomb. I will look out for them!

I just stumbled upon this picture and I think it's a gorgeous shade:

http://www.glamour.de/var/condenast/storage/images/beauty/star-style-beauty/galerien/das-party-make-up-der-stars-mit-anleitung/anne_hathaway_158171376/11193734-1-ger-DE/anne_hathaway_158171376_gallery_large_portrait_scale.jpg

Also, it might be helpful to figure out what suits me to know that I have often been compared to Emma Watson. I think she's super pretty so I don't want to be bragging about how amazing I look..we just have some things in common. I have her complexion, hair (not when her's is really light) and eye color and also quite similar bone structure. We're the same type I'd say.

So I was looking at pictures of her trying to find out what looks good on her.. might look good on me, too  wink

Re: Best (blueish/dark) red lipstick for cold undertones

A blueish undertone would basically give the red a bit of a fuchsia twist and move it towards the colder color spectrum.

I'm thinking this color (but matte):

I've edited my post and added a suggestion... I think that's a darker shade!

They look beautiful! I'll keep them in mind and hunt them down as soon as I can afford a more expensive lipstick  wink

Re: Best (blueish/dark) red lipstick for cold undertones

Well, it turns out that for me many reds work! Not only warm ones, but also neutrals and cool toned reds as well  superglad

And what I learned from my thread is that you must try them, because sometimes pictures are not very accurate. They do give you a guide but they can totally change on your lips.

I recommend Mac Ruby Woo

http://www.temptalia.com/images/holiday2011/mac_rubywoo004.jpg

Cover Girl in Hot Passion

I know it looks very neutral but it's not. This is actually very blueish because it shows fuchsia on my lips instead of a true red.

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jAOSMNKI0Uk/TuzoGqbc6pI/AAAAAAAADA4/UtSEoPBNUJ8/s1600/lip+perfection2.jpg

Here is another picture:

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-yq0POCRXaKg/TzrSJOeBoVI/AAAAAAAAAIc/2iXlIlnDIJU/s1600/hot+swatch.jpg

NYX Chaos

Same thing, it is very blue, regardless of what the picture shows

http://www.radabeauty.com/media/catalog/product/cache/3/image/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/n/y/nyx_lss511.jpg

Also, all the swatches I have seen of Revlon's red lipsticks seem to be more on the blue side.

Maybelline's Red Revival also seems more on the "blue" side

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-n7-EnpUZpaU/TzrSNqw7WII/AAAAAAAAAIk/BRu4I_PynZM/s1600/red+revival.jpg

Also, all the Bourjois reds seemed to be in the "blue" zone, except for Rouge Soyeux (Sweet Kiss Naturel) which you should also try, its very neutral.

Re: Best (blueish/dark) red lipstick for cold undertones

I'll make sure to try Mac Ruby Woo and the NYX one. I don't think I can get covergirl over here..but I have plenty shades to test now! Thanks for your input, omixochitl! You inspired me to ask this question in the first place  8

Re: Best (blueish/dark) red lipstick for cold undertones

Anyone who's interested in MAC Ruby Woo but isn't too crazy about paying at least $15 for a tube of it, check out: Wet N Wild Megalast Lip Stick, Stoplight Red, #911D. It's pretty much a dupe for Ruby Woo... almost the same except that Stoplight Red is a bit more moisturizing and a has a satin-like look, rather than the utter matte look that Ruby Woo has. But for $2.99 for a tube, I'm not complaining. Just blot your lips with a tissue after applying your Stoplight Red, and voila! You have a matte look for a fraction of the price!  tummenupp

Re: Best (blueish/dark) red lipstick for cold undertones

Aaaggghhh!! These threads are no good for my bank balance.  vissla

After omixochitl's thread I spent days investigating what was the best red lipstick for me. In the end I bought Mac's Ruby Woo ( which is quite out of my comfort zone). So thanks guys!

But it didn't end there! In reading about lipsticks, I got onto NYX products in general and I started looking at their eye makeup. Don't get me started on their awesome jumbo eye pencils!!

Re: Best (blueish/dark) red lipstick for cold undertones

PunBB bbcode test

for the fair skin and big eyed hahah. it is not drying cos it is not matte..satin is a lil more moisturizing than matte..n anw, a trick is to apply vaseline as base before applying lipstick.

Inspiring humanity.

LOL! I'm addicted to this stuff too!

You could also try NYX Pure Red as MAC Ruby Woo dupe if you want something a bit more purse friendly.
