Cynthia Ann "Cindy" Crawford was born in 1966 in Illinois, USA. While she was jobbing as a corn harvest helper when she and her looks were discovered by a newspaper photographer who took her picture. When she learned that her picture got positive feedback, she decided to give modelling a try. At the age of 17 she entered a modelling contest hosted by Elite Models Management and finished second straight away. Shortly after the same modelling agency signed her. She finished high school and intended to study chemical engineering after having won an academic scholarship, but with her model career taking off, she decided to concentrate on modelling and left university. After working in Chicago with a renowned photographer she moved to Manhattan, New York in 1986. She signed a contract with Elite New York and within short time the name of Cindy Crawford became a household name.

In the 1980s and 1990s her model fame was catapulted to superstardom when Cindy, Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Tatjana Patitz and Christy Turlington unwittingly became supermodels. For years Cindy's photos were gracing countless magazine covers and she was named one of the most beautiful women in the world. Cindy was the face of many marketing campaigns by globally successful enterprises. Among them are Versace, Escada, Revlon, Maybelline, Clariol and Omega. Her looks and her popularity opened many doors for her. In the 1990s Cindy was hired to star in music videos by George Michael and Jon Bon Jovi.

When she had the chance to launch her own fragrance line, Cindy did not hesitate and took up on the offer. Cindy Crawford Joyful, a fruity-floral fragrance, was developed by perfumers of the well-known house of Givaudan.
