Schiaparelli Logo

Elsa Schiaparelli (1890–1973) was an Italian-born fashion designer, famous as a provocative couturier inspired by Surrealists like Salvador Dali and Alberto Giacometti. She moved to Paris and opened her first boutique in the late 1920s. Her first collection of knitwear with graphic “deceive the eye” motives was presented in 1927. In 1931, she added evening wear to her fashion collection and, later on, the shop was moved from Rue de la Paix to the “Schiap Shop” in the Place Vendôme.

She is also famous for the use of bold colors, such as iced blue and hot pink, for her tall hat designed as a shoe, for padded shoulders on female suits. She was the first one to separate sports clothes, to use unusually shaped buttons and to use zippers and man-made fabrics. During the World War II she moved to New York and opened a store there in 1949. After the war, she came back to Paris only to find that the fashion has changed and her designs didn’t fit well with Dior’s “New Look”. She closed down her business in December 1954.

The most famous perfume by Elsa Schiaparelli is Shocking, launched in 1937. Its bottle was designed by Eleonore Fini and it was shaped like a woman's torso inspired by Mae West's curvy figure and draped in shocking pink that was originally made in Czechoslovakia. The fragrance was re-launched in 1998. Schiaparelli fragrances are associated with Pikenz company.

Designer Schiaparelli has 7 perfumes in our fragrance base. Schiaparelli is an old perfume house. The earliest edition was created in 1937 and the newest is from 1992. Schiaparelli fragrances were made in collaboration with perfumers Jean Carles and Nathalie Feisthauer.
