Fragrantica member Annie_OK reported in our Fragrantica Fragrance News thread the following news this week:

Monday March 21st was National Fragrance Day in the UK. Alexander Fury of the UK's Independent explains:

"Monday is national fragrance day – which doesn't mean a huge amount as it's a promotional excuse to shift yet more of the smelly stuff we're set to be spending some £2bn on by 2017. As those figures attest, perfume isn't just about the smell, but the sell."

Fragrantica is celebrating by offering a special scented gift in exchange for your scented memory in 100 words or less. Read more about it HERE.

Erin Blakemore of Smithsonian.com earlier reported that a French perfume company is offering to create fragrances inspired by the aromas of lost loved ones:

"Scent can be a powerful reminder of those who have died — but it’s also ephemeral, evaporating as fresh memories of your loved ones fade. Now, a French perfumer claims to be able to bottle a person’s unique scent, creating perfumes that smell just like the people you love most even after they're gone. Using the clothing of the scent subject, Agence France-Presse reports, Savary and her colleagues extract a hundred odor molecules and reconstruct them in perfume form. Apalategui will market the perfume at funeral homes by September, charging around $600 for the bottled essence of those who have died."

The company is now online and offers prices and products HERE.

Brian Ashcraft of Kotaku.com reports that a fragrance inspired by the video game "Resident Evil" will soon be launching in Tokyo:

"According to Inside Games, Capcom is releasing this limited edition fragrance at its Capcom Cafe in Saitama, Japan starting March 26. It’s called T-Virus and designed after the infamous Umbrella Corporation strain."

Though no composition has been announced for the aroma, one wonders what a fragrance titled T-Virus might actually smell like. Thoughts?

At DiscoverMagazine.com, researcher Christi Wilcox takes readers on her journey investigating a mushroom with a suppsoedly intriguing aroma:

"Countless hours of research and reporting had culminated in this moment. There I was, standing on the remains of an old lava flow, staring at a mushroom that one man claimed could make me orgasm by smell alone. I bent down, pressing my hands in the soft mulch on either side of the fungus, and let the air out of my lungs. Then I pushed my face next to its orange stalk and breathed in as deeply as I could."

Read her journey to learn if the mushroom actually delivered!

On March 11, 2016, the niche fragrance line Fragrance du Bois celebrated their launch at Paris' Jovoy boutique.

"Fragrance Du Bois owns its own plantations on which the Aquilaria trees that produce Oud is grown. The plantations are managed by Asia Plantation Capital -- an award-winning and industry-leading company whose proprietary techniques and expertise have brought the species back from the brink of extinction, and created a vertically integrated business model that is becoming an emblem for our times. Journalists at the launch were engaged and fascinated by the Fragrance Du Bois story. 'From Soil, to Oil, to You' captured the imagination of even the most seasoned scribe and weary industry aficionado, being a story of sustainability, renewability, environmental awareness and corporate social responsibility at every link in the supply chain. The story takes travellers on a journey from the land on which the trees are grown, all the way through to the end product - beautifully displayed on this occasion, at one of the most respected perfumery houses in Paris." Press Release.
