This was a blind purchase. I'm pretty happy with Tainted Love so far.It settles into a cabbage patch doll scent on my skin, which I enjoy, but I wish it was a little stronger. I'm glad I bought it, but I probably won't repurchase.

I really like this one, and it's tied with Honey and the Moon for my favorite Margot Elena scent. I normally gravitate towards vanilla woods scents but am turned away from sickening sweetness or harsh resins. However, Tainted Love feels balanced and is one I reach for often. It's simple but mysterious! Settles into something soft, and very wearable. Definitely a step up from the brand's Dead Sexy scent. This feels more evolved! One of the few perfumes I rebuy again and again.

I was expecting a dark rich vanilla with some florals, maybe a little tart or smokey. What I get on my skin is tea and sandlewood. That's it. I was pretty disappointed. And the lasting power wasn't that great. Awesome concept, too bad it didn't work out for me.

This reminds me of a sweeter version of Laura Biagiotti Venezia. When I went outside into the winter air I could smell the vanilla more distinctly. The drydown takes awhile to develope, but smells a bit like a better version of VS Cashmere Vanilla Jasmine. Love it!

Tainted Love is very lovely. I really like the combination of tea with dark vanilla beans, orchid and sandalwood. Very beautifully sweet, comforting, fresh, moist and deep, and quite dark. Very alluring and sensual. Feminine, elegant and sophisticated. Smooth and clear, mysterious and delicate. Lovely. And lasts for so long!! Beautiful.

This is a lovely scent if you want something sweet but not sickly sweet, and definitely if you want something with more clear orchid and vanilla notes. Tainted Love is at the perfect level of sweetness, anything more and it would be too much, so I think it was done quite nicely. After a few hours, I'm surprised at how long it has lasted. It's a nice scent for younger women. It's a bit too sweet for me personally to have a long term relationship with, so I'll stick with the small lotion and rollerball. It's really a pretty, warm, cozy, inviting scent.

I'm a vanilla lover and I like this enough to get a mini, but not a fb. All the individual notes are some of my favorites, but it just seems somewhat off to me, like it could have been blended better or has poor quality ingredients. All the Tokyomilks I've sniffed seem to have a sharpness I found very unappealing and its in the opening of Tainted Love as well although extremely muted compared to the others I've tried. This isn't the best quality vanilla, either... I far, far prefer LaVanila Pure Vanilla, Diptyque Eau Duelle, Armani Si Intense, Derk Lam Something Wild, Pacifica Island Vanilla.... This is just barely different/interesting enough to keep a little around to change things up. Also, on the dry down, this smells even younger than it does to begin with - I'm about to turn 30, so this isn't exactly for me. I could definitely see this on me much more if I was 10 years younger.

Something about the sandalwood mixed with vanilla is both intriguing and off-turning. I wanted to like it but it came off as a blast of cocoa-y vanilla. I can't handle it very well. However, this is a great alternative for someone who is young but not into fruity-florals.

at first i disliked Tainted Love as soon as i applied it. it was a blind buy and i was feeling relieved that i only got the rollerball. it reminded me of stale old books stored in a smoker's home, with a tinge of baby powder (no hate at all here for smokers, i used to be one). BUT, now i'm 2 hours in and i love it... because my nose is confused. i still smell the tobacco, but a nice vanilla rooibos tea and a something like a faint plumeria is there too. it's sweet and cozy, but still a little dangerous.

I really like this fragrance, I just wish it was longer lasting. It is pretty straightforward note wise, I definitely smell all of the notes listed, but I also get a little bit of rose when I smell this. I think it's great for a date, but it also wears so close to the skin that you could get away with wearing it to an office. I feel just a little sexy and mysterious when I wear it. I wish it had better longevity.

Smells of an old mansion a hundred years old. All the windows were left open in the summer and in the cold months the fire places burned and burned to keep the rooms warm for the family who only dawned black and red clothing all year long.

Such a sexy smell of vanilla, dried flowers, woods and with a hint of... metallic notes.

I am surprised to see this getting so much hate, but then again, I am also surprised to find things I can't tell from every other loud floral cacophony being praised as the height of modern perfumery.

I like simple scents I can layer or wear to work.

Orientals have always been my weakness, and things with a warm sandalwood or vanilla base have always been my favorites. This somehow conjures a dark currant and pipe tobacco vibe to me, despite not being listed notes.

A fall or winter staple for me, I just wish it had a little more longevity.

Just got this, I'm a gourmand lover, but on the fence about this after wearing for one day. It definitely smells better on a tester strip, paper, or material than on skin, so I'm going to try that next. First I get citrus, then a vanilla/tobacco mix, and it dries down to a bright, sweet floral just before disappearing entirely. There's definitely something "dark" about it, a smokiness that's hard to describe. Giving it some more time before coming to a conclusion. It doesn't last too long, but it lasts a lot longer than the Let Them Eat from the Curiosities line I also ordered.

This would be a love instead of a like for me if the opening didn't smell so much like a citronella candle. Give it an hour, and it's warm, sexy sandalwood and boozy vanilla, but that opening is weird. Thankfully, the drydown lasts and lasts - I was doing laundry and could smell it on a shirt I'd sprayed it on FIVE DAYS previous, and if I spray it on my skin in the morning I can usually still get light whiffs at night. So longevity is serious. Sillage is surprisingly moderate, considering its crazy longevity, but that's okay with me since I don't usually want my perfumes to announce my presence before I enter the room. My husband could smell it when he was sitting next to me, and that's good for me.

I am still upset that Tainted Love did not work for me.... after I wore it for a solid 6 months! I layered it with Tahitian Gardenia from Pacifica because even then I was detecting that plastic note some of the reviewers mentioned. Unfortunately, I could no longer ignore it. I dont want to vote dislike because the first 10 minutes are so glorious, everything I want in a perfume, but alas...

This was my first TokyoMilk fragrance, and I loved it. On me, it was woodsy and sweet with a hint of vanilla. It reminded me a bit of Yves Rocher's Cantata from the '90s, but Cantata was classier and more mature. This is classy, but still a little bit innocent. There is something heavily romantic but just a tad mysterious about this fragrance. I could imagine a young film noir actress wearing this. I'm surprised that so many consider this a unisex scent because, for me, it is only feminine. It's strong and heady right out of the bottle, but quickly turns to a whiff of vanilla before fading to nothing. I have reviewed several TM fragrances, and my complaint is always the same: zero longevity.

This one is a little strange for me. Mainly because my nose can not decide what it is smelling. It flits from lemon to sandalwood on my skin, and doesn't really develop beyond that. The sweetness was overwhelming for me. Lasting power is great, which I have found with all of the Femme Fatale Collection. Sillage is medium.

Margot Elena's Tainted Love is a delicate fragrance that is thought-provoking, perfectly unisex, and appropriately priced.

The blend is simple: tea, sandalwood, vanilla, and orchid. Nothing hidden. Tea and sandalwood take up prime real estate in the opening, but there is a "blink and you'll miss it" showing of orchid, as well. In a flash, the heart opens up and vanilla becomes the word of the day. It is less of the fragrant vanilla that I was hoping for and more of the powdered vanilla coffee creamer variety. One dimensional, but not terrible. At the 1 hour mark, this note morphs into a "plastic" vanilla (like a vanilla-scented doll), which is oddly nice. This aroma signals that the ride will soon be coming to an end.

Tainted Love unfolds at breakneck speed, but the scent can be prolonged with a little creative thinking. If you are having issues with this scent disappearing on your skin and don't want to keep reapplying throughout the day, I would recommend spraying your clothing, instead. I turned my sweater inside out and applied a liberal coat to the fabric(8-10 sprays). This allowed the scent to warm against my skin and waft up through the neck of my sweater every time I moved. Little pieces of heaven for 8 hours... who doesn't love that?!

Tainted Love is also an office-friendly scent for both men and women. The woody vanilla base is a very unisex platform that can enhance one's own natural scent. My skin draws out the tea note, my husband's accentuates the sandalwood, and the fragrance smells equally nice on both of us. For $36 a bottle, this makes for a decent investment... especially if you are sharing.

A giant hats off to the design department! I'm a sucker for well-designed packaging and the entire Tokyo Milk Dark collection has that in spades. The rectangular bottle is easy to store in compact spaces, but is also great for displaying on your counter or vanity. Each side features a different design, which is great for customizing and/or changing up your display. I love the versatility. Well done, on this front.

Ultimately, this is a decent scent for the money. Simple juice, beautiful presentation, and fair price.

My skin chemistry played havoc with Tainted Love. I wanted to love it. It smelled so good in the bottle. On me, it was an unfortunate mix of baby powder and low-budget vanilla body spray. It was like Love's Baby Soft, Vanilla Fields, and Coty's Wild Musk were having a party on my skin. I didn't get sandalwood or tea in any recognizable form. The fragrance didn't evolve in any way and it lasted for 5+ hours with low to moderate projection.

I can imagine that this fragrance would be lovely on someone with different chemistry than mine. On me, it was a hot mess. The best thing I can say about it is that it didn't give me a headache.

Apparently my body really, REALLY likes orchid. I wear Song in D Minor pretty regularly, and when I tried this one on I was hoping for something with a bit more vanilla...but all I got was the same orchid I get from Song in D Minor and then some. I really wanted to love this one...very jealous of everyone with the body chemistry to make this one work.

**EDIT** Okay, I gave it some months and tried this one again, and this gave me very different results. I used the roller instead of the perfume...this time it started with warm vanilla notes, and the orchid blended with it nicely, ending in a creamy sandlewood with a hint of sweetness. I'm willing to try this one in its spray form again after this.

Thank you, @Verdegris for sending me Tainted Love 62!

I'm an ardent Oriental Vanille Lover. My body chemistry marries so well with this olfactory group. My fragrance wardrobe is predominantly stocked with Orientals.

I enjoy Tainted Love 62. I find it is classically tailored as an Oriental Vanille. I agree with many reviews that it might be a bit out of proportion- rapid top, narrow middle, larger on the bottom. I also agree with reviewers who sensed a boozy quality in the vanilla.

On my body, Tainted Love 62 opens very sweet. Then within 5 min there is a floral accord. Within 15 min, I'm enveloped in velvety, smokey, creamy, warm vanilla burnt sugar. On my skin, Tainted Love dries down to rich, burnt vanilla sugar cubes. As if a person tossed a sugar cube into a wood fire then removed it and let it cool a bit on top of fresh tea leaves. At the very bottom, I get a touch of melted candle wax coming through for the last few hours. I really like that. The tea lends a *slight* bitter earthy accord on me that I love as well. Makes me feel sexy. The base lasts 6hrs on my body

I find this Oriental Vanille to be weighty, sweet, smokey and woody. I am a perfume consumer who buys scents for their BASE, ignoring the top of nearly everything I own. I really don't care what's in the top of most fragrances because that's not what others will smell, nor is it what I will be smelling the longest. But bases/ends/bottom notes- that's what I consider as the true scent of a perfume because it stays with you and lasts the longest.

For me, Tokyo Milk' Tainted Love is a really great base that I find eminently wearable. I'm so glad to have it!

I would buy this for sure!

Edit: after weeks of wear, I've decided not to buy. It does not last beyond 6 hours on my skin!

I'm not great at breaking down a fragrance, but on me this smelled like a vanilla based men's cologne. It was nice, pleasant, sweet, warm but slightly masculine. Not very woodsy, more powdery. It reminded me a bit of when my husband wears Burberry. I purchased a sample but will not be buying a bottle.

Tokyo Milk's "Tainted Love" is a very interesting perfume. With only 4 notes, it is actually very unique. First sniff, I get a little dry vanilla… immediately followed by a blast of a very distinct, bright green sweet floral note (the white tea). It reminds me of Atelier Cologne's "Gold Leather". On my skin, it is very nice and warm. Very enjoyable, addicting, and unique. On some skins, it may smell a bit sour or rancid. I do not get any sandalwood or orchid (the other two notes in the perfume). If you wear vanillas well, and are looking for a warm but juicy scent, you will like this. I can not comment on the staying power, but after thirty minutes of wear, it seems to have rounded out into a nice but subtle vanilla tea.

Update: After about an hour of wear, this wore down to a vanillary-plasticy smell. Not a favorite.

Yes, the name caught my attention right away since I came of age in the 80's. Besides that, I couldn't help but be attracted to the unique bottle. As a former club-goer who hung out with the punk and goth types, this was a sure bet hit. This is one of my few favorites in the Dark line. On me the vanilla smells more like it's cloaked in sandalwood and musk (though musk isn't named as a note in this fragrance), which suits me fine. I've never been a fan of vanilla scents that take the baked goods path. For me it's not an everyday pick. Tainted Love is for when I'm in a bit of a darker, rebellious mood. Or maybe for times when I feel like flashing back to a time in my life when my personality was a bit more dark and rebellious.

I love this perfume, it's a little spicy at first & normally I don't like spice but this one smells nice! Like dark black cherries in a bed of deep, syrupy vanilla with a layer of powder and spice on top. This has zero projection on me, absolutely none. But when I put my nose directly next to the spot it's applied on, it's so strong, almost cloying. Move my nose back, and can't smell a thing. So bizarre. I've had three sample vials of this from three different places, so I know it's not a weird one time fluke. I actually like the scent, but the fact that is has, literally, zero projection keeps me from spending money on it.

I am admittedly fickle with perfumes.

This is an intriguing scent, to my nose, it's quite androgynous. To me it smells like a very sexy men's cologne--and that is not at all a bad thing.

It's a cozy, wintry, personal smell. Regardless of others commenting that it is generic, I do not find it generic at all. Instead, I find it quite warming, almost intoxicating--sometimes in a negative way, but most of the time in a comforting way. I had a friend smell this perfume and he said "It smells like home."

This is very wintry, especially on the drydown. This could be attributable to body chemistry but after a few minutes, the vanilla fades heavily and leaves behind something not unlike apple cider; my husband even remarked that I smelled like apples (just a few minutes after application, this lacks in longevity as other reviews mention.) The apple-tinged scent is very interesting and I'm considering buying a full bottle after I finish my rollerball.

This perfume is attractive and pleasant to wear. It stays so close to the skin that people might not smell it on you. Not a sillage monster but on my skin it is longlasting with a nice evolution.
It starts very floral and almost '70s fruity style, but it soon becomes very sweet vanilla. Then it morphs to vanilla-sandalwood but in a very tamed way. Not a work of originality, because it smells like the drydown of so many perfumes, but I'm grateful that it lacks that harsh woody edge in the end that became trademark for 90% perfumes in the last years. Even in the end it stays soft, feminine and not invasive. Tainted Love as inspired to a great song starts to give sense to that song when the initial blast fades, but it should be named Softly Tainted Love. Anyway it has some sexiness in it, more on the vanillic type, not sugary candy factory vanilla, thanksgod.
I'm not sure it's totally worthy, but it's a pleasant one and not disturbing.

Hmmm what can I say about this? Well. First off,I was really excited to try this and I found a nearly full bottle on E-bay for $15.00 which is a steal compared to the 33.00 it normally is for a new bottle. When I recieved this I ripped off the cap and took a whiff. From the bottle it smells wonderful to me...but when I spray it on my skin I get a horrible synthetic smell. When I wear this I have to make sure that it only get's on my clothes and not on my skin or else it's disgusting.

At first I was meh, its alright, yet I find myself reaching for it quite often. Because my skin loves it! My advice don't be discouraged by the negative reviews, test it for a few days. On my skin it opens a bit citrusy then dries down to a smoky woodsy vanilla.
I bring a small rollerball in my purse everytime I wear this, doesn't last long unfortunately so I don't mind reaplying here and there. The tiny rollerballs are super cheap and usually come in a set with a travel size hand cream which I adore.

Tainted Love and I have a forbidden love affair. This is one of those unusual fragrances that I just cannot describe with words. I smell it, I feel it. This is the aroma of a dark, mysterious woman that takes herself seriously and can sometimes be too severe for most to handle...but leaves you curious to know more about her. You're drawn to something about her, but you're not entirely sure why.

I frequently use the handcreme and rollerball of Tainted Love. The scent lasts well into the day and night, and projects elegantly. The dark lovely bottle pleases the eye of my inner goth. This is the scent of a serious, sensuous, and mysterious woman.

This scent is the aromatic celebration of darkness and the terrible beauty hidden in the shadows. Such simple notes, but together, make for a smell unknown, but loved. Love, tainted in all its damaging complexities and sometimes ugliness. The name accurately reflects this fragrance. This is indeed very unisex, it has a bold, sexy, androgynous feel.

This is a favorite of mine, simply because its so...different. It seems to me a lot of folks have forgotten that there is a lot more to perfume than just picking apart the notes as you smell them. Sometimes there is more beauty and enjoyment in not making sense of it. Fragrance is just as much, if not more about how they make us feel than just their composition. This is a masterpiece on the right person, in fact I'm making this my new signature scent, this fragrance epitomizes me into a perfume lol.

On blind sniff, I was guessing Guerlain, based on the vanilla and sandalwood accords. It smelled like a mashup of Shalimar (lemony vanilla Guerlinade) with Samsara (transparent sandalwood) and I personally could have *sworn* there was chocolate in here. This review is based on a sample dauber, not a spritz. It's not FBW for me, but I don't own big bottles of Shalimar or Samsara for good reason, and while I think it's interesting, it's a very short-lived cycle through the top and middle, ending on a stewed wood (tobacco-y) base that is unexceptional, so it's not really worth even the modest price. Super cute packaging, though.

Like most perfumes, it smells weird the first 15 minutes. After which, it is a creamy sandalwood with powdery, but not sticky sweet, vanilla notes. I really like it, as it is clean, lasts all day, and leaves you thinking: what smells good, oh it's me (literally happened).

On a side rant, this was acquired via trade. Talk about Pavlovian reinforcement at its finest. Most trades so far ended up with me trading "like" fragrances for "like a little more" fragrances. This was a true undiscovered gem for me and will foster further trades in the future in the hopes of finding yet another...

This is a perfume that truly depends on body chemistry, I think. My reaction to this perfume is different from some previous reviewers, both in how it smells and how long it lasts (about seven hours on me). This may have common notes, but I don't think the resulting fragrance is common at all.

To me this is different from the usual vanilla scent because it's vanilla bean--maybe it's not as "dark" as the name might suggest, but it's a huge difference to my nose, just like the use of the actual bean transforms the taste of food. The orchid is very present on my skin and lovely in combination with the vanilla, and the tea is dry and surprising. It almost smells like incense on me, and while other reviewers have said this is white tea I would have guessed lapsang souchong or something equally strong and flavorful. The entire combination is a little smoky and definitely intriguing.

I love vanilla in perfumes but I have to be very careful as many vanilla fragrances, especially in this price range, are just terribly cloying on me. Tainted Love happens to be a very good one for my chemistry. The sandalwood is the star and it, along with the orchid, balances out the slightly sweet vanilla. The silage is very weak and longevity is poor but I'm still happy with it. For the price, it is one of the best vanilla scents I have found.

This is my favorite fragrance next to Estée Lauder sensual nude. This perfume actually lasts on me and gives off orchid, tea and vanilla when I wear it. I've seen some reviews that this is mostly vanilla but I think that highly depends on your body chemistry. I love mixing this with the Lush Vanillary perfume solid. You'd think it's make it even more sweet but Vanillary has a more jasmine scent on adult skin than vanilla. Wonderful mix. I always get compliments on this fragrance and it's not too much when I am around patients at work! Love it!

This perfume drives me nuts. I want to like it. The bottle is so incredibly awesome! The notes sound perfect for my taste.

Unfortunately I really don't like it. It smells utterly blah to me. Generic faint sweet nothing. Not really vanilla, not really floral, just sort of a clean skin scent. Very shampoo-y. Also doesn't last well on me either.

It would be stupid to buy it just to look at the bottle, right? ...Right?

REALLY like this. It isn't super unique, but for the price I think it's a good one. I find it to be a very comforting, cozy, mysterious, powdery vanilla. Sure, it's not the most long lasting scent... but at $36 I would expect that. I like the smell and at that price I don't mind reapplying. I have gotten compliments. The barista at Starbucks the other day said "You HAVE to tell me what you're wearing! Is it Rapture??" ... So... I guess that means there's some similarities to Rapture by Victoria's Secret? Lol. I can see how she would make that mistake, but Rapture is much heavier and more cloying to my nose. Just thought it was worth mentioning if you've never smelled this, but are familiar with Rapture perfume! I do prefer this one and will keep it in my collection. Just love it!

For the longest time I could literally smell nothing other than vanilla, and had to keep layering this scent over itself. Add more.. wait... sniff.. still vanilla... I had to pretty much douse my wrist, then at last- tea! Sweet, fresh note above the ocean of creamy vanilla and this fragrance became quite lovely. If I inhale deeply I can pick out the faint background of orchid but to me it is buried under layers upon layers of vanilla. Unfortunately the loud vanilla note is not unusual enough for me to purchase a full bottle of this, as I think it honestly resembles many vanilla scented body products already on the market. The depth to this fragrance simply isn't here for me, but I cannot deny the vanilla and tea combination smells good. I can see this being a comfortable, weekend scent.

i've had this sample sitting around for awhile and finally decided to try it tonight. oh my! i like this a lot. this is the first tokyo milk scent i've tried, for the record.

before i saw the notes i thought this was a sweet, boozy tobacco scent, then i see the notes, and i am really surprised. i guess it is like a floral vanilla tea, and it is a bit sweet, but i definitely thought this had tobacco or boozy notes. oh well, either way i really love this and i really want a bottle!

This is a fascinating scent. I DO NOT tend to go for vanilla fragrances, but Tainted Love made me overcome my typical aversion to that typically too-cloying ingredient. This vanilla is sort of bitter and dry, not sweet and oppressive. The sandalwood, orchid, and tea all manifest in a slightly edgier way than normal, giving this powdery scent some teeth. At this point, when I have 100+ perfumes in my wardrobe, I am really appreciative of unusual scents and this one is certainly different. Love it. It also has really reasonable staying power on my skin - unlike what a lot of other people have been saying in their reviews.

This vanilla scent sounded like it would be right up my alley. I love all things vanillic and thought the edgy dark notes and name would make for a rich winter scent. I saw a review somewhere that described this as a "meat and potatoes" vanilla scent and that is the most accurate remark there could be. This is just a very straightforward scent: vanilla and sandalwood. It is pretty linear and while the opening- burst of orchid and sandalwood with tea- is a little more bright than the drydown, it does not evolve much. That being said, some may appreciate a fragrance that doesn't play games on the skin. I was hoping this would be a cheaper alternative to my fav, diptyque Eau Duelle, but it is far less complex. I do love the sexy black packaging and the mini hand lotion looks great in my purse. Wouldn't repurchase, will stick with Angel, Addict, Shalimar, etc....

I bought this after smelling the whole line in Sephora. This was the only one of the line that I liked instantly. I sprayed it on my wrists when I got home, and it was just lush. A wisp of citrus over a warm incense-y vanilla and sandalwood. The citrus faded quickly but the vanilla incense stayed for a few hours. Warm and cozy, but not a food-like vanilla. The orchid comes out every now and again. The scent is close to the skin, but I prefer my scents that way anyway, perfumes shouldn't announce your arrival. I like this and men seem to adore it. I have male friends gluing their noses to my neck when I wear this. I enjoy this perfume quite a bit, and you can't beat the price for such a nice scent. Will likely repurchase when I run out.

Edit: There are SO many other great frags in this line, you must test on skin though as the ones I have tried are not linear--- I must add I did like the opening of TL. It was just the dry down that got me.

Oh my!! This is one of THE most underrated scents in the vanilla, woody category,,,, yummy (in the flowery sense)!!!
In all sincerity, I follow the wave of what's hot and new, but it was only by stumbling upon this beaut. at a local store that I first had to have a sample and then went back because I couldn't imagine NOT smelling this....
To some it may smell redundant, like a familiar scent of vanilla or wood they may already have.... however for the depth of the scent vs. the cost, it is just amazing...
I imagine a Christmas party, sparkly blouse, great music and a delicious menu..... Someone leans in and says... Oooh, what are you wearing???

I was so excited about getting a sample of this because the packaging and its name only are desirable enough. A small dab on my wrist and all I got was vanilla and a touch of powdery feel. It faded, into nothing else but powdery with a touch of vanilla. However I'll try it again an another time, to me perfumes always go wrong when it's freezingly cold which makes my skin feel like rough paper.

Edited:
Ok it's a lot warmer today and I tried dabbing a bit of them on my left wrist anddd I was surprised! It had been sweetly powdery for the first 10 mins, but after that came out a very unconventional - exotic - floral feels (orchids I think). I don't even know why it didn't come out last time. The flowery lasted detectably for 5 hours on my skin with touches of warm vanilla here and there, it smelt very pleasant and one-of-a-kind. It is no sillage bomb, it is a more personal type of scent, it is for yourself and ones who get close.

I'm happy because after all I still want this one so much! It's kind of hard to buy it in my country, but I'll try my best. Quite affordable, isn't it?

I absolutely adore this fragrance. It has a nice blast of sultry vanilla, followed by a dark organic tobacco scent. Sadly, this scent only last about 40 minutes and fades to skin scent. I wouldnt purchase this again. It makes a nice bed time scent to help me wind down.

This is my favorite from the Tokyo Milk Dark collection. It starts out slightly powdery, but quickly turns into a warm, rich vanilla bean and exotic floral scent. The longevity and sillage is not the strongest, but I can overlook that just because I like this so much. I got this as a small rollerball sample, and I loved it so much I had to get the full size bottle! This has become my signature fragrance lately for Autumn/Winter, and it layers well with some of my other scents.

I thought this would be an easy win...tea, vanilla, orchid, sandalwood? Yes to all! Unfortunately this combination becomes plastic on my skin--in fact, it's the same plastic note that makes BBW's warm vanilla sugar absolutely unwearable for me. It it dry, cool, not sweet, not cloying...but still plastic. Not only that, but unlike other reviewers, I found the sillage and longevity to be more than adequate. Sometimes when you play the game of notes, you lose, and I lost on this one, big time.

I love this, it is my perfect vanilla.
Not a teenybopper fruity vanilla perfume but not a musky grandma version either, perfect for a sophisticated 20-30 woman.

There is a touch of chocolaty smokiness that keeps it warm and sexy, the sandalwood is definitely present but the orchid keeps it from being too earthy and the vanilla is deep without being too sugary or overpowering.

I can smell it on the inside of my elbow after a long day, but only slightly. Layering with the same scented lotion really improves the longevity.

A dark, alluring vanilla. The orchid and tea make it really unusual. It's warm but not comforting which is the oddest quality; usually vanilla is a comfort scent. This is edgier, keeps you on your toes, not the familiar baking scent one is used to with a vanilla. This makes the vanilla seem exotic and mysterious instead of something we all have on our kitchen spice rack. Really well done, but it's not your typical gourmand lovers vanilla.

Just a vanilla fragrance--agreed. Like bottled sensuous velvet--agreed. Nothing "dark" or "tainted" about it. Vanilla tempered with green tea and sandalwood, longevity was satisfactory. I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop, like a lover who bites your tongue, but it never did. Nothing passionate about this fragrance, and "Love" does not immediately spring to mind. All that said, I did really like it and feel it most suitable as a winter fragrance.

I tried a sample of this today and I must say I have a love/hate relationship with this fragrance. I think it smells absolutely delicious. I smelled it over and over again for two or three minutes because I loved it so much and then...gone. In less than five minutes it was almost undetectable and within the hour my skin just smelled like skin again. SO glad I did not pay for this. I wish a smell so lovely lasted long enough to enjoy it.

Update: I wore this a second time and this time I decided I just hate this stuff. After about an hour on my freshly bathed skin, it smelled like body odor or peepee or something. I even let my mother smell my wrist where I sprayed it and she said the same thing. It turned sour and stinky. I guess my chemistry didn't mix well with it. Yuck. Glad this was just a sample vial. :P

Tainted Love is bottled up velvet. Vanilla, licorice, and sandalwood mix together smoothly in this soft and smoky concoction. The scent is dark and rich, but surprisingly quite cold. Even the bottle feels cool to the touch, which I suppose adds to that darkness.

Though it's a truly unique vanilla fragrance, it's gone in a poof, unfortunately. I would only suggest buying it for layering.

This is an interesting vanilla. It starts off as a sweet, spicy, rich vanilla bean scent and then moves on to something strange and sinister in the best of ways...something that keeps it quiet and contained and ... eerie. There is also a secret citrus note I am getting. I love the powderyness of this perfume...just the right amount. It is as seemingly innocent as a black widow in that it seems sweet, but in the end it is just dark, empty and removed. There is always something "off" about this frag and I love that. Because of this, I am excited to try all of the Tokyomilk Dark collection, even if they are a bit "off" or strange...is that not what the collection is supposed to highlight? On another note: all of the bottles of this collection are highly interesting, whimsical and sometimes creepy (I like creepy). Tokyo Milk's slogan "objects to desire" is very fitting for all of their collections. Aesthetics are thought out to the fullest and I adore that. Some may argue that it is a simple scent, but I love that about it. Simple but complex. Everything is blended effortlessly to create a fragrance that perfectly conveys the aesthetics that it's name evokes. I think this could be a unisex scent and I think it can be worn day or night. Sillage seems moderate. I have fallen for this tainted little perfume.

Ordered it sight un-sniffed even though this combination of notes has been done to death. I read the negative reviews and regretted it... until I received it today. Tainted Love is the perfume equivalent of high quality food prepared simply. It is a basic "meat and potatoes" vanilla bean sandalwood smoothed with orchid and tea on a "cushion" of tonka and brightened with a dash of citrus. I love it and I am glad I blindly ordered the Tempting Trio (EdP, Salted Caramel Lip Elixir, Handcreme) as well as the full bottle. Finally, a new love!

This bittersweet vanilla isn't your little sister's kind of candy sweet-everyother-typical-vanilla. Nope, Tainted Love is slightly sinister. She's a bit of a good girl gone bad... but in a vanilla gothic kind of way. It does start out with a familiar bright top that seems slightly citrus. After a few minutes, it calms down and turns into a slightly powdery (just the right amount), almost chocolate-y scent-yummy. Then comes the cozy drydown of a sandalwood vanilla. Slightly dry, not heavy or overly sweet. I personally like that one has to come in close to get a whiff of this delightful concoction. This is not the type of scent you want assaulting people's noses. It takes away the mystique. This is a heavenly creation! If you want gourmand that isn't saccharin sweet, a great pick.

Just received this today via sephora, I can easily say that Tokyo Milk is becoming a new fav. of mine. 2 scents I blind purchased this && Arsenic based off reviews && I love them both!! As soon as I opened the box I caught a whiff of this heavenly scent && said OMG!! On the my skin it's very delicate I get a lot of the orchid and vanilla && the mix plays well && is just beautiful! I kinda of get a licorice quality from it too as mentioned I also get a vague familiar under tone that reminds me of my YSL Body Kouros it's as if to me Lolita Lempicka && YSL Body Kouros had a baby, I just Love it! As for all the votes for this just being a winter scent, I don't see why it couldn't be perfectly suitable for a cool summer night out on the town it's soft enough, I know I'll for sure wear it when I go out layered w/ a nice fruity exotic scent BAM! there ya go!, && agreed I don't see this really lasting long on the skin, but as curliegurlie stated " Some folks seem to ask a great deal from their fragrance. I just like to smell nice. This does it for me."...agreed I don't care how much long it lasts as long as it smells good I can always re-apply...It's a fantastic scent reasonable in price what's not to love I can see this becoming a reg. scent of mine && I'd deff. purchase it again. Hmmm.. I think the next scent(s) from Tokyo will be Bulletproof && Excess && I think I'll deff. get this body lotion to layer! Curious? do try it! :)

Overall: 9/10

I love it though it is a MILD perfume - mostly vanilla that dries down to sandalwood and I am happy with that scent - I find it peaceful. I like that it is very vanilla nd not terribly exciting, though I think the sandalwood darkens it up a bit.

After reading the notes for Tainted Love, and enjoying my Tokyomilk Dead Sexy fragrance, I was intrigued and excited to try this. But I was sorely disappointed in how it smelled on me -- it was like a cheap vanilla cigar! I left it on for a while to see if the drydown was any better, but I ended up having to scrub it off my wrist.
Others seem to enjoy this fragrance, so perhaps it will smell better on you than it did on me, but be sure to try before you buy!

Opening is sweet on my skin, very powdery and a little floral, but predominately vanilla. Once it mellows down a bit, I get a lot of that sandelwood, and a hint of licorice. At this point it comes off as pretty unisex. One of the more unique fragrances I own, it is "dark." Pretty bottle, a lot of product. The only thing is that it barely holds for an hour with no sillage.

Opening is powdery sour fruits supported by a backdrop of sandalwood. Five minutes in the sandalwood becomes more pronounced and the whole thing smells a lot like almond extract for a few minutes as the boozy vanilla starts to dominate. Here is where it stays for the bulk of the life of the perfume. Vanilla with sandalwood kissed by powdery sour fruit which I reckon is supposed to be orchid. It's nice and affordable but I feel no compulsion to buy a full bottle.

I love this fragrance--it's a sweet, smoky vanilla that dries down into a soft powder that manages to retain its darkness for a few minutes. But a few minutes is all I get out of it. Half an hour after spraying, I can literally smell nothing on my skin--the sillage is beyond poor. In fact, if I didn't know the source was legitimate, I'd have assumed I got a counterfeit bottle because it's such a weak fragrance.

What a shame that this lovely scent doesn't last longer! Yes, it's inexpensive, but I feel like I have to reapply it constantly to get anything at all. My boyfriend agrees that it disappears quickly, so I know it's not just me becoming desensitized to it after a short time.

Gorgeous packaging, great price, lovely fragrance, but it doesn't hold up like other Tokyo Milk perfumes. If it had more lasting power I'd buy it again but unfortunately, it simply doesn't last long enough to make it worthwhile.

This perfume is new to me, so I may revise this later. So far, I love this scent! It smells sweet, but not like cotton candy sweet, more like caramel or toffee. The dark vanilla bean is obviously the strongest note, but I smell the sandalwood a lot too. On me, the perfume dries down to a nice sweet cedar scent that is warm and comforting. I am so pleased with this because it is cozy and heavy on the vanilla.

This was a blind buy for me; I almost regretted it based on the negative reviews. I'm glad I gave it a try though because I am loving it! I applied this lightly to my wrists and I smell a dark vanilla orchid. I respectfully disagree with the reviews that say this perfume is boring and that there's nothing dark about it. On the contrary, I find it to be a breathtaking vanilla. What I think has been repeated over and over again is the rich, creamy, gourmand vanilla. I am always on the lookout for a fragrance that truly captures the vanilla bean and vanilla orchid, and Tainted Love is exactly what I've been looking for.

It truly smells like dark vanilla beans, and what makes it a dark vanilla IMHO is the exotic orchid note, which comes out beautifully on my skin. Every year in my city, we have an exquisite Orchid Expo in an enormous greenhouse. I'm not sure how many people have had the good fortune of attending such an event, but orchids give off the most intoxicating aroma. When you walk into a greenhouse crammed with thousands upon thousands of orchid flowers, the smell is indescribable. Thus began my love affair with the orchid and my quest to look for quality perfumes containing a solid orchid note. Margot Elena knows what she's doing.

I clearly smell the white tea as well, which serves to amp up the freshness of the vanilla beans. All in all, this is one of my favorite fragrances from the Dark line. It's the lighter side of dark, if that makes any sense.

I'm going to digress from the previous reviews, because I LOVE this. My body chemistry is very finicky and I've been skin testing scent after scent after scent for weeks and had many recommendations from this site turn bad very quickly. On my skin, 'Tainted Love' keeps all the notes for a decent amount of time and also takes on a hint of smelling like old books in the back of the library. The vanilla, which I normally hate, is not nearly so overpowering as all the other scents I've tried. I need a pinch of sweet mixed with the woody and the floral to give me some balance. Traditionally, my chemistry works better with masculine scents, but needs just a bit of something sweet and/or floral to bring your nose back around to the feminine. I plan to keep buying this for awhile, since my two signature scents are off the market.

I do like this, BUT no, not unique. The name and the scent just don't match one another - this is not dark, dangerous or "Tainted." (I know, I get the 80's song reference.) Been a vanilla perfume connoisseur for a long time and this is a really familiar combo. I like the name and the bottle, but honestly, out of what I have and have smelled, the cheapie bottle of Dana's French Vanilla I have had for years smells almost identical, if a little sweeter. Not bad for the price, though, and the bottle IS cute. A safe, pleasant, generic vanilla-based frag, with some light woodiness at the base that becomes powder a couple of hours in. Blendable/a good base for other scents, but don't get this expecting to be wowed. Good for those new to vanilla frags who don't want something overly sweet or foody/gourmand. At least it's not overpriced.

Later: Okay, so wearing this a few days, I find that this smells like it's missing something, it's unfinished, just goes straight to the drydown. I have tried layering a couple of other scents from the Tokyo Milk line, and find that Kabuki with this smells really nice and adds some missing complexity. It adds nice creaminess to the really sweet-tartness of the grapefruit in Kabuki.

Tokyo Milk Dark TAINTED LOVE is a rare case of a Margot Ellena combination of notes which has already been done so many times that it calls to mind literally dozens of middling mainstream oriental fragrances. It's the sandalwood and vanilla which doom this composition to redundancy. Sandalwood and vanilla probably smelled new and exciting at some point, but now, after a couple of decades of launch after launch after launch after launch, it all just seems tired and trite.

At first when I donned this perfume I was trying to rack my brain to figure out what it reminded me of. Then suddenly it dawned on me: every average oriental mass market fragrance launched in recent history. Although the orchid might have come to the rescue, it is not strong enough to compete with the well-entrenched sandalwood and vanilla combination. White tea is very lightly scented, so no surprise that it did not save the day. Désolée.

Right out of the gate, I snapped up two of these Tokyo Milk Dark perfumes, Tainted Love and Bittersweet.
Now I know its about the juice and not the bottle, blah blah-blah-blah-di-blah, but in this case, its totally about the uber fab goth-ish little matte black bottles with the simple white images and text on them. I confess that they are so reasonably priced and so cute that if I had even one more square inch to spare on any surface of my bedroom, I would purchase the entire collection and display them all together!

But enough of my crazed decor fantasies, and lets get to Tainted Love's advertising blurb's much touted "unusual fragrance of rich and exciting dark components": yeah, no doubt - if vanilla is your idea of dark and exciting. Vanilla, sandalwood, a cup of tea and "orchid", aka what I suspect is all purpose perfumese for "exotic" but really, in my opinion, another name for vanilla, since vanilla IS the seed pod of an orchid.

Tainted Love is spectacularly unexciting as a fragrance, but its a decent stab at creating a Guerlain's Samsara ultra. ULTRA lite, something for the masses to wear so as not to be too threatening to each other. It lasts decently - about 6 hours - drying down to a warm sweet scent, and remains dramatically innocuous throughout.

In order to darken this up, you can drop the name of it a lot -"Gee, have you noticed I am wearing TAINTED LOVE today?" - or hum a few bars of the eponymous 80's song, or whip out the doubtlessly fab little black bottle and sigh a lot.
That may make Tainted Love a lot more dark and exciting, but in the end, its really just a Vanilla fragrance.

Yaaay/Yawn.
